I loved my 13 night cruise on the Baltic Sea. I travelled with a female friend and I was very impressed by the very comfortable size of the stateroom (veranda class). Entertainment on board with its orchestra, jazz band, solo singer and conferences on a variety of subjects, was perfect. We had the standard beverage package and a credit onboard included and were very happy with the selection of wine by the glass and drinks part of the package. The credit onboard could be used to buy shore excursions, which we did, especially to take shuttle buses and Hop on Hop off in certain destinations. There was no pressure to buy at the shops or take any of their shore excursions, which is appreciated (compared to another cruise I went on). The food was excellent, especially in two of the specialty restaurants (Murano and Qsine), and the service was absolutely fantastic everywhere on the ship. However, I must say that the selection of fruit was not varied enough, during the 13 days, we had always the same: watermelon, cantaloup, honeydew and pineapple, except for one day, after the stop in Germany, where we had papaya and kiwi. I would have appreciated to have some berries, grapes and generally a certain variety during the cruise. Also, there wasn't a counter where I could self-serve of lactose-free milk, I needed to ask the staff everyday, which was a little annoying. Otherwise, the steward was keeping the stateroom in mint condition daily and generally the service was very efficient and friendly. Lovely cruise overall Read Less

This was our 2nd cruise on the Eclipse, we chose it because we knew what to expect and had been very happy with it before. Embarkation for disabled poeple is excellent. Balcony stateroom excellent. Service outstanding. The wjole ship is spotlessly clean and well maintained. We only eat at the Ocean View Buffet because it is so good, lots of choices, with very flexible opening hours. We don't book any of the ship's excursions because there are cheaper and better alternatives, especially in St. Petersburg. The beauty of the Eclipse is that you can choose to do anything or nothing. Getting involved in events usually places you in a "Pantomime" style activity: someone with a microphone telling you to shout or cheer louder. However, the point is that there is no pressure to take part in anything and sometimes it's fun to watch from a distance, eg. dance classes. Some of the musicians were quite good but we never returned to the Eclipse Theatre because the Pantomime factor kicked in. Second rate performers, not for the discerning audience. Disembarkation is simple and quick. Downsides: 24 hr piped music which is inappropriate and sometimes so intrusive that you cannot engage in conversation. It is apparently governed by the bosses back in USA and no one on the ship has the power to change it! Canyon Ranch SpaClub - considerable hidden costs and not worth going near it: people paying a fortune for hairdressing, then rushing back to their cabins to wash and redo their hair. Don't fall for the Megawhite teeth whitening treatment. They don't tell you about the 18% "gratuity" which, when questioned, means another "service charge" and there's no mention of an extra $80 for the "after-care kit". It is a controversial teatment in the UK but the law apparently does not apply when "at sea". Otherwise, a brilliant cruise, brilliant ship - you just have to watch out for extra or hidden costs. We didn't do it the first time because we didn't understand how it worked but the Classic beverage package was great. Despite complaints, we'll go again...with the knowledge of what to avoid. Please...Celebrity, cut the MUSAK! Read Less

This was our 3rd cruise with Celebrity and was quite enjoyable despite the rather poor weather during most of the cruise. We were fortunate that the 2 days in St. Petersburg had the best weather and we very much enjoyed our 2 day tour with SBP tours. Having used the Celebrity excursions on previous cruises we decided to go independent this time and were very pleased that we did as SPB turned out to be excellent and better value than the Celebrity excursions. The service in the Blu restaurant was as good as ever although we did find the menus tended to be somewhat lacking in variety at times. We had a Classic drinks package as part of our deal and found the wines available with this package quite acceptable however we will try the Premium package next time as it does provide a much wider choice. Although the entertainment was pretty good on the whole the biggest disappointment was the new Cruise Director, a charmless Welshman called Eddy who was nowhere near as good as his predecessor Sue Denning. This is our 5th cruise on the Eclipse & we love the ship. But Celebrity are getting greedy with their very high prices for services on board & excursions + they are reducing the length of some cruises but putting the prices up. The temperature of the hot food has been a problem on every cruise, they cannot get it right! It is time to put a few microwaves in the buffet restaurant to enable guests to heat their food as it is totally ruined when it is warm or cold! There are too many repetitions on the menu. Nearly every day they serve brocolli. The hot pudding is the same every other day. The custard is wartery. The entertainment is mediocre. We really missed the entertainer, Perry Grant, so are going to give Princess cruises a try as Perry will be on the Royal Princess from Oct 11th 2015. Hopefully we won't be disappointed! Read Less

Another excellent cruise, made even better this time with the outstanding Luminae experience. We've been cruising with Celebrity for a while, cruising is a fantastic way to see more, esp in Europe, with kids in tow. This was our first time on the Eclipse though we've been on many of the other Solstice class ships; they are all pretty much the same, though definitely missed not having the Art Studio (Eclipse has a Photo Studio). Also really missed Rossi from the Equinox, the best CC hostess EVER!!!!! Our aft sky suite was very spacious for the 4 of us (11 and 15 yo kids) with ample closet and drawer space. Love the tub and the private scale so you know when you need to watch it! Hector and Joaquim kept our room spotless. Dominic, our butler, was always very responsive. He was our butler on our Medi cruise last summer, so it was kind of like seeing family when we saw him again! Luminae, with a few hiccups, was superb. Very nice that it was available for lunch on embarkation day and breakfast on debarkation day. Service overall was impeccable, Hemant and Bernadette were both very attentive and Steven our sommelier was absolutely incredible with his recommendations. The hiccups was that the food, specifically red meats, while not bad, could be better, and that the pace sometimes was surprisingly slow (for the few number of guests seated). There were some items seemingly from the specialty restaurants (like Murano's pork belly appetizer) that was a delight to find in Luminae, but a disappointment is that the steaks we had in the Tuscan Grill were much tastier and more accurately prepared that most of those we had in Luminae (should be at least on par, IMHO). The lunch/brunch menu tends to repeat too, and in such a way that we saw a similar menu several times even though it is supposed to be rotated, so I think better attention should be paid to planning with port days/sea days. But the smaller restaurant experience and the excellent service makes up for all the negatives mentioned above, and all that being said, it's not like it was worse than what we've experienced in the MDR, just expected unequivocally better! Service elsewhere was great too, very impressed with Victoria at Cafe al Bacio, who definitely added pleasure to our cruising experience! Gym was good as usual, love the cold towels, and they did a great job with keeping that stocked. Not sure if this particular group of Brits onboard with me exercise less (told that stats were ~2400 Brits, ~150 Americans, all else "other"), but this is the first time I've not had to get up early to get to the gym right when it opens in order not to wait. Every time I was in there, equipment was never more than ~30% occupied, even on sea days. Then an amusing aside, maybe Celebrity has replaced LifeFitness with Techogym on all ships, but it was Technogym here, and all the virtual training/outdoor videos were from the bay area (San Francisco, Marin, Lake Merritt); so I was able to work out to a virtual video of back home places while on the Baltic sea, very funny! The kids program was great, special shout out to Anna, Dario and Julio, who all made the experience true to its name of Fun Factory. This was actually the first cruise that my son was enamored of the program, he's not really been into it previously, so it was fun for us adults too to participate in some of the family events, like the Scavenger Hunt (and to our new British friends, yes, mum and dad were much more enthusiastic than the kids when you met us, and we're not ashamed!) Entertainment was so so for us this time, usually we're happier. Couple acts that we had high expectations for but had some British humor that we just did not get, though Pete Matthews was very good. Ports were wonderful, got the 24 hour Copenhagen card to do on our own since we were there overnight, also did Stockholm and Tallin on our own, joined Berlin City Tours in Germany for a whirlwind Berlin tour with our outstanding guide, Boris, and did a private tour with Anastasia Travel for St Petersburg, with a mixed experience there. Interesting ports is definitely a criteria for cruise selection! Overall, another fantastic cruise; can't wait until the next one!!! Read Less

Thank you to all the staff on celebrity Eclipse. Enjoyed the following shows, Steve Larkins, Beatles, Analiza Ching and Changing Faces Peng Fei Su. Great Dance lessons hosted by Ivan, Alison and others. However, I feel the timing of the evening Ballroom dancing does not fit in well with 2nd seating diners. So it was unfortunate, I had to miss out, much loved ballroom dancing. Our waiters at table 141were very attentive and pleasant, made our dinnig experience a pleasure. Thank you Nemanja and Emmanuel, you both deserves a Star. Bar services were very slow on some occassions when there were only one or two bar tenders serving at busy times. I watched some enjoyable and interesting films Card room is not particularly suited for bridge game, constance interruption by passengers walking through to lifts and their staterooms. Also rather noisy. Noise from activities, going on at the foyer. However, I'd enjoyed some lightheartedly social bridge games with some nice peoples. My cabin stewards, Anesha and Peter, were great, our room was kept clean and immaculate. Thank you, you definitely deserves a Star. Overall, we had a lovely cruise and hope to sail again soon. This was my sixth cruise but the first with Celebrity, it was my husbands second cruise. Embarkation was quick and easy, however we were not told where to go as the staterooms were not ready, so we wandered around for a bit. When the stateroom was ready we were happy with our choice and the position. Our Attendant was pleasant and everything was present in the room. Food was pleasantly good and the Ocean view self service was varied and good choice, good service until the Elegant afternoon tea on day 9, a little about that later. As a Diamond member with RCI we were given Elite status, which we were looking forward to, This is where the cruise became a bit of a disappointment to say the least !! we didn't meet the Captains Club Hostess until day 9, however did realise she was the member of crew that threw us and many passengers out of the Sky Lounge several time during the cruise, we were told there was a private event going on ! this was actually the Captains Club cocktail 2 hour slot, to which we were entitled ! Prices on the ship were extremely high eg 24 Nurofen cost us $11.5 A cup of Coffee ( half full) $6.5 The Art sales were overwhelming taking over the sky lounge several times, therefor unable to sit comfortably and read or relax. Elegant Afternoon Tea in the main restaurant was dreadful, we were treated so badly, we were given tea in a mug with tea bag hanging out however others were being offered a range of teas from a tea box ? we had to ask for savouries and told they were on the cakes but would find some for us, we had to ask for scones and the cream and jam was thrown on and landed all over the plate. The Hostess came over and asked if we were enjoying it and that's when things got a little awkward as I was not very impressed, I was told that its takes a few days to adjust to the difference between two companies ??? And there is more but you probably are fed up of my complaining by now but I could write a book. We have complained but to no avail and been ignored. After several years of trying to get my husband to cruise, he doesn't want to do another one after this experience. Read Less

Embarcation was speedy and efficient and we were quickly aboard and looking forward to this experience. We have cruised with NCL, Royal Caribbean, Princess and other smaller ships in many other parts of the world so cruising is not a new experience. Our cabin was adequate though ill designed. The settee or 3rd bed obscured half of the wardrobe so that retrieving clothing was difficult. Much of the storage was over the bed and this proved almost impossible for my wife and I to store and retrieve clothes. My wife has mobility difficulties and the only way to retrieve clothes was to stand on the bed!!!!! The drawers in the dressing table were totally inadequate. I expressed dismay at the situation and was promised a more suitable room but this never materialised. In spite of the ship being refurbished, towels were old and frayed. (I have pictures to prove this). Much of crockery was old and the mugs in the self service restaurant were deeply scoured and dis-coloured. Some of the newer mugs had a dark blue interior to hide the dis-colouration. I was served creme brulee in a deeply cracked dish and there were occasions when wine was served in dirty glasses. food was sometimes cool or cold and the dessert menu tended to be quite repetative. Piped music seemed to be the norm and there were few quiet places on board even in the library. Normally we are great fans of shows in the theatre but the quality was variable: some very good others very mediocre. Of the 15 night voyage, never once were we served morning tea by the waiters/waitresses! They were too absorbed in SELLING water and orange juice or wine rather than performing their duties in serving and clearing away dishes from the previous occupants of the dining tables. Our cabin steward did not introduce himself and though the cabin was always clean drinks in the fridge were not replaced with a fresh supply. Water left in the stateroom is outrageously expensive as are the bottles of wine on this ship. Certainly, the prices are considerably higher on this ship for cheap supermarket plonk! On a positive note, the weather was great and it was worth the niggles about the ship and crew just to see the Hermitage and Peterhoff at St Petersberg. Read Less

I joined friends on this voyage on Eclipse and I have to say that I was disappointed overall by the experience. In the past I have travelled on QM2 in both Grills and Britannia restaurant so my expectations of Celebrity were high. The ship was just out of re fit so was all clean and bright. Check in was speedy and soon on board fighting for a table and food in the self service buffet. I was amazed just how busy it was and then I realised that Eclipse is smaller than QM2 but carries an awful lot more passengers. My room was OK - a tad on the tight side I would say if two were/are travelling. Very little wardrobe space but the bathroom is excellent - and I loved the walk in shower and terrific water pressure and always masses of hot water. My biggest "gripe" was the noise and music levels in all the public areas. There is piped music EVERYWHERE and this has no reflection as to the time of day or the travellers. For example in the martini bar at 8am one morning was pumping techo music at a very loud level. In the café was different music which could be heard across the atrium and so it goes on. Sometimes if you are in the open spaces you could hear different music from 3 or 4 different areas. On my voyage the average age was well over 60 and to have such music being pumped constantly was simply ridiculous. I for one complained on numerous as I know other people did to no avail. The response was that the USA send the music that has to be played in which area and at what level and basically - tough. About the only public space I found that there was no music was the indoor pool - even in the "library" you could hear music from either the inane piped music or the bands playing the atrium. Basically the only place I could find peace was in my room. Perhaps this approach to piped music works on Caribbean cruises but most definitely not in my opinion on a cultural Baltic sea voyage with an average age of a least 60+ Another point to be aware of is that the shore excursions appear good vale but you are incredibly rushed - on the tour to Catherine Palace we were whipped around the garden at such a pace that the older members of the tour just couldn't keep up and what for me was going to be a highlight of the whole trip was spoilt. The whole experience was marketed as "modern luxury" well not in my opinion its not - all the activities in the day, or most of them are spend related - ie look at a new camera - opportunity to be sold to. Visit to the spa - opportunity to be sold to and so it went on. When the ship is full it is also very difficult to find any space and getting a seat in the coffee lounge was almost impossible. The vast majority of entertainment in the evening composed of X Factor rejects and certainly for me held no interest what so ever. I did visit the in house production that I gather is replicated on all their ships and this was OK but as soon as the show finished the pumped up techno music was whipped on again. Overall - overcrowded, not that great food, too noisy, not in the least bit relaxing and for me and far too American. Read Less
