antarctica - interesting destination alcoholic beverages prices outrageous. wine packages totally overpriced. food nothing to write home about but not bad. friendly personnel. “captain michael” should visit a speech class to learn proper english pronounciation. entertainment better suited for young hip - hop crowd, latin entertainers ( cruise director etc) are not a good choicme foer elderly american couples. embarkation process after shoure excursions in puerto madryn a complete mess, never seen such an idiotic process. bad bad organization. 500 or so passengers tried to board the ship at one time........ shore excursions hopelessly overpriced, internet rates were acceptable, that was a positive surprise. disembarkation process swift and satsfactory........until we reached the luggage delivery area. we were suppsed to receive the bags after disembark ation, it took more than90 minutes until thebags finally arrived. total lack og cooperation from celebrity, permanent “ i dont know” from the argentianstaff inside the deliver area. a big mess, several people lost thei flight connection. this was my 3rd cruise with celebrity, dont know if i will cruise with them again....... The itinerary into Antarctic waters was the major reason we selected this trip. We had the experience of a lifetime with fair seas, clear weather and moderate temperatures. Sights were breathtaking. Along the way we had ample opportunities to see penguins, seals, dolphins and occasional whale sightings. Our balcony cabin 9314 was ample with plenty of space and arranged well. Our cabin steward Sanjay, our waiter Alfonso and assistant waiter Chico were all exceptional. The cruise director Alejandro was one of the two best we have ever cruised with. I was also very impressed with the ship's cleanliness overall. Kudos. Shortcomings. I was stunned to find that there would be a charge for the use of the steam room. This is the first time ever, in over 15 cruises with several different companies including sister companies to Celebrity, where the steam room access was at additional cost. I was also taken aback by how many times daily and at how many locations there were dining staff hawking their premium dining restaurants. Celebrity seems to be trying to up-sell as much as they can and also charge for services that are complimentary on other cruise lines. I did not like this. I also did not appreciate the fact that the sky bar was closed every night limited to only Celebrity's top tier repeat cruisers. Other indoor lounge opportunities were limited, and outdoor drinks were not always pleasant in the cool windy climate. Read Less

As most, we booked this cruise for the opportunity to see the Antarctic. With that comes a lot of sea days and few port days which would normally not be our choice. We've cruised with Celebrity before and also with Oceania, Princess and Royal Caribbean. The Buenos Aires embarkment could have been better. Outside the port, there were so many taxis that our taxi driver dropped us off about a block away to make our own way with all our luggage. Once we got to the area, our luggage was taken from us (great) and we went into a large room with lots of chairs to wait our turn. After about 25 minutes, we went through security and then went to our priority line. To get to the ship, we had to take a bus for a 15 minute drive since the port is very industrial. All went smoothly but hectic. Our concierge cabin was fine but did need some upgrades. I liked the fact that the shower was a little larger than our showers on Solstice or Equinox - every little bit helps. Our seward, Sunjay, was excellent - always asking what he could do for us and being very friendly. We found the food in the MDR good and also in the Tuscan Grille and Murano's. The buffet was fine (as expected) but getting a table was just crazy. There were sea days that we went to the buffet and looked around for a table for quite a while before heading to the MDR to get in there before it closed. With a cruise itinerary with this many sea days, the size of the buffet area was just not big enough. We enjoyed the entertainment. The ship's band was excellent and many of the entertainers were also very good. As with most large ships, the tendering process was also chaotic. That process could be improved. The weather in the Antarctic could not have been better. We saw so may sea birds, whales, seals and penguins during this trip. The glaciers glistened in the sun. We took so many pictures and totally enjoyed ourselves. The captain and his staff safely got us around multiple enormous chunks of ice. We're so glad we took this cruise but honestly it will need to be another very special itinerary to get us to have that many sea days. Read Less

We went on this cruise because it was a 14 day cruise to Antarctica. We have most often cruised with Holland America, but their cruise to Antarctica is 22 days. We had heard that Celebrity is slightly better than Holland america, but we found the opposite to be true. First the good news: Eclipse is a beautiful ship, very well appointed and maintained. It does miss a promenade deck walk way, but there is a small jogging trail on a higher deck. We had the most beautiful weather on the entire trip to Antarctica, and the talks by Dr. Peter, Mickey and Cecilia were very informative. The Service on the ship was a bit hit and miss. Most service crew were pleasant, but some of the Caucasian crew members were not as service oriented, and at one occasion argued with another passenger. The incessant selling of drinks was a bit much. The food was generally good, the buffet had an excellent variety, including Mexican and Indian food, but inexplicably there were no fresh berries available during the whole cruise. The dining room was so slow that we only went there for dinner, and once we were served uncooked pork schnitzel. There was a lack of communication to passengers on the ship. Several times we departed hours late, with no explanation whatsoever. Once we had to wait 3 hours for disembarkation at Port Stanley, without any explanation or apology coming from the ship. Lastly, a general comment. One feature, that seems to be at odds with the times, is that Celebrity creates several different classes of passengers. Suite guests, Aqua class, concierge class each has special areas. We were in steerage. If Celebrity thinks that will encourage us to spend more, they are mistaken. Read Less

Sailing to and from the same port of call is a great advantage to me. This time from beautiful and cosmopolitan Buenos Aires is a plus to this cruise. I live there! The celebrity Eclipse is a luxury ship with plenty is amenities for all tastes: fitness center spacious with many elements and sea view from all corners, live music all the day long in different locations, matinee shows on sea days and evening shows every night with international artists, indoor and outdoor pools and whirl pools, spa and Lersian garden to relax. Food is fantastic in all restaurants, main one Moonlight Sonata is huge. We had access to Blu the exclusive restaurant for Aqua Class passengers which was cozy and well attended by Nelly and all Blu staff. Buy sailing along Paradise Bay in Antarctica is the most fantastic experience I have had in my entire life! Put it in your bucket list!! The views are outstanding with a few huge whales and tiny penguins swimming along the ship. Ports of call are also worth visiting Ushuaia southern most city in the world, Falkland/Malvinas Islands, Puerto Madryn , Montevideo and Buenos Aires. Each has it beauty and charm. Read Less

We chose the cruise for the destinations and they didn't disappoint. Antarctica and the Falklands were were every penny to get there. In Antarctica you don't get off but we saw so much from the ship. There were lots of whales, icebergs, penguins and incredible scenery. We didn't do any ship excursions but booked tours through Trip Advisor. The ship has some problems and it was our first time on Celebrity. They don't seem to understand their guests and activities were hit and miss. The Celebrity Live experts were outstanding - Mickey Live, Celia and Peter were incredible but the live musical acts were all too loud and some of the guest performers were awful. Trivia was well attended every day but the woman running it was pretty thick. She couldn't pronounce many of the words and was certainly no help when there were questions. Embarkation in Buenos Aires is awful. We waited over an hour to go through security as they have a numbered system. Even though no one was in the security line, they didn't call the next number. You get through check in and then board a bus through the busy port. The buses had a very high step to get on and then were packed to indecent contact! Getting taxis at disembarkation is easy and very well organized. It is a fixed rate and clearly told up front. The drinks package was very handy with so many days at sea especially in the cafe and at breakfast with the better coffees and fresh orange juice. We got the internet package for one device and could switch it between us. The speed was surprisingly fast and it kept us connected with the news from home. Our balcony concierge cabin was a highlight and we loved the concierge service. The service was impeccable. Food was so so. I'm sure they are trying to drive people into the paid restaurants but that will backfire. We will choose a different cruise line instead. This was our first time on Celebrity, we have always been on Royal Caribbean. In comparison, the food and entertainment was better on Royal. The ports are reviewed separately Read Less

Chose this cruise for the ship and the itinerary. We were on this ship when it was new. Ship seems very much the same. Ship was clean and rooms were spotless. Food was mediocre in the main dining room not due to the menu but perhaps with poor quality meats, with a few exceptions and Murano was wonderful. We ate in Murano 5 nights and it never disappointed. The ports were very boring and long drives in bad weather. We mostly liked staying on the ship. The entertainment was fair to good from what we saw. We met a lot of very nice people and it was fun. I would not choose South America for a fun destination. The reason I gave it a 4 instead of a five was because of the MDR and the poor ports. The service was very good except in the Ocean View cafe. It was very difficult to find someone to clean the tables, although the food was very good. The Martini Bar was excellent. Read Less

The itinerary was appealing so we jumped on a deal even though we had just returned from another cruise. This was our first experience on Celebrity, a cruise line that one of my golfing buddies uses exclusively. My overall experience was quite good and actually, better than expected. We had done a few cruises with the "foodie" cruise line so had modest expectations for the food on Celebrity. We were pleasantly surprised by the overall quality. We ate in all of the speciality restaurants, the MDR, and the Cafe. The Tuscan Grill served huge meat portions and was generally good but not quite comparable with the "foodie's" Italian restaurant. We loved Murano and went back for lunch another day. The food and service was exceptional. Q-Sine was a gimmick, I felt like I was eating at Disneyland, but obviously people had fun and the food was good. The World Cafe had tons of choices and we were again pleasantly surprised with the quality. However, we didn't like the challenge of finding seats or waiting for a bar server. Also, unlike another cruise line's cafeteria, you are serving yourself after others have used the serving utensils. It seems to defeat the purpose of having people getting their Purel before entering (which wasn't enforced!). Staff were friendly and helpful. Special shout outs to our cabin steward, MDR server, and sommelier. The Cabin was roomy enough but a bit worn. One cupboard door was hanging loose and towels and sheets did not seem to be high quality, though the robes were good. Selection of wine and beer on the Classic package was minimal. Read Less

Having cruised across many different venues, this cruise offered something different in an area of the world we had not yet explored. Going in January meant it was summer but the weather was a bit colder than many people expected. We brought the right clothing but some must have expected beach weather. As always, Celebrity's service, food, entertainment and ambiancwe were great. They had many different excursion options, but not a single one provided support for handicap people. I use an electric scooter and the tours did not accommodate it. But we were able to find tours in every port that supported our needs. Often these were private taxi tours that were designed just for us. Celebrity did do a good job of getting me on and off the ship, even in tendered ports. This was greatly appreciated. This cruise highlighted seeing wild life (e.g. pengiuns, sea lions, sea birds and even an occasional whale). You would not see this scope of wild life anywhere else. It also took us to cities that have unique cultures and ways of life. It was very educational. Overall it was a vey good cruise. Read Less

We picked this cruise in 2017, and booked on last cruise as we had been to Antarctica and thought the Chilean fjords and around the Horn sounded great. Picked our tours on line, had our special C1 stateroom, over wake, and looking forward to cruise. Found out after final payment--our stateroom cost dropped almost to 1/2 our price--Celebrity was not easy to deal with-got a couple perks??? Then the "looking forward to" tours were cancelled for one reason or another?? The fjords were a waste --what we could see--the time of day--the weather--the Captains choices--same for going around the Horn (did not have to be early early morn)--soooo many things spoiled this expensive cruise. Food poising from the Murano restaurant, with nothing from hotel manager after being informed!! The entertainment was so poor---captive in the theater!!! The very last gift from Celebrity--the terrible cough many of us brought home with us--and still have. Think the new CEO is a bean pusher as the cost of everything has gone up-the quality is down--want the Celebrity Line from past 20 years??? GONE! The staff who is there to be of service to the clients are, as always, the top of the cruise lines---but hate to hear them beg for 10s on survey!! We will have to really think about returning to Celebrity---there are other lines to try--Elite Plus does not mean quite what it did. Unhappy with this cruise--can you tell?! Read Less
