I WAS a loyal Celebrity cruiser until..... I have taken my last cruise on Celebrity Cruise Line. I had three cruises scheduled for 2019. I have completed two of them and canceled the third. Celebrity Cruise Line has gradually deteriorated to the point that I am no longer willing to go on a cruise that I scheduled for November of this year. My first cruise this year on the Equinox was the second time that I have been on this ship. I was on it shortly after dry dock. I had a page and a half of problems that I went to the customer service desk with including 4 days of the toilet not flushing. After presenting my list of problems to the manager at customer service, I was issued a $150 credit for a future cruise. While on board for cruise number 2 this year, I attemped to apply the credit to the future cruise in November. Apparently, the staff in future cruises did not do what they were supposed to with it. After receiving a copy of the November billing, we contacted the customer service department which were so rude and unprofessional that we ended up having to cancel November's cruise because they were unwilling to apply the credit that we were given for our unbelievably crappy cruise number one this year. The problems included toilets not flushing, internet service not working, TV's not working, a room Steward rearranging things daily that he had no business to be touching, rude and argumentative wait staff, rude shore excursion people, bartenders that were unwilling to change the channel to put on sports in the casino bar instead of news, comedians that were so bad that people were walking out in drothes, items on their daily itinerary never happening, inedible food, plastic items found in the food...... unfortunately the list just goes on and on. After calling customer service to have the credit applied correctly, they were so rude and uncooperative that we canceled a cruise that would have cost $3500 over a $150 cruise credit that they lost. The customer service rep reminded me of a used car salesman trying to do the money shuffle explaining that the credit had already been given when it clearly in writing had not. If they cannot provide it to you in writing, it never happened. Don't trust them. Celebrity Cruise Line has obviously given up caring about their existing customers. I wish I had waited to do my survey until after I discovered this problem. I had spent enough time on this ship that the management and staff were all greeting me saying "welcome home." It is now a sad goodbye but for the price it is a goodbye nonetheless. No one should be treated the way we were by customer service, and the future cruise services staff. Apparently celebrity has grown large enough that they have stopped careing about their customers. Read Less

The summary: Celebrity customer service needs retraining. Four to 5 different answers when calling. We lost 50% of our vacation time and the “Executive Customer Service Team” first said they wanted to make things right, but instead of giving a any refund or credit, basically said piss if we have your money too bad, as long as people keep paying us we don’t care. The full details: Our cruise and flight arrangements were made directly through Celebrity’s Certified Vacation Planners with a promise from the agent that if for whatever reason we missed the ship, they guaranteed they would get us to the ship "AT THE NEXT PORT". The following is a detailed account of how our trip went: April 19th We drove to DC from NJ to stay at a local hotel before our flight the next morning. We received messages at 5:51 pm that American Airlines flight 1178 to Miami had been canceled. All 3 couples immediately got on the phone to Celebrity's Emergency Travel team. They eventually got us all rebooked on JetBlue Flight 1279 to Fort Lauderdale. April 20th We were at the airport by 4am. As we're waiting in line our JetBlue flight was canceled. We again immediately call Celebrity's Emergency Travel Team, who eventually inform us there are no flights available from any airport around us to Florida that will get us to the ship in time. All 3 of us then received conflicting information. I was told they could get us to the ship Tuesday, April 23rd in Costa Maya, another couple was told we could get on the ship Sunday, April 21st in Key West, and the 3rd couple was told that a refund or credit for another sailing would be possible, but we had to wait to speak to a supervisor and they don't come in until 9am. We proceeded to wait at the airport for almost 5 hours until a supervisor came in. Once we had finally gotten a supervisor on the phone it was at that point that we were informed of the Jones Act and no, we wouldn't be getting on the ship in Key West. Also, if we were to cancel, a credit towards another sailing would not be possible. We would only receive back our port fees and taxes. Our only option at that point was to be flown to Cancun and then driven to Costa Maya on Tuesday. Our last "written" communication from Celebrity's travel team would be our flight confirmations to Cancun. It was at that point that our group was split up. Two of the couples flew through Charlotte to Cancun and we flew through Atlanta to Cancun. When we left DCA we had no confirmation, verbal or written, of where we were going to stay in Cancun. When we arrived in Atlanta we had a text from the rest of our group that we would be staying at the Courtyard Marriott Cancun Airport but still no word on HOW we were getting there from the airport. I again called the emergency travel team to confirm where we were staying and ask HOW we were getting there. They confirmed it was the Courtyard Marriott Cancun Airport and that as soon as we went through Customs there would be someone with a "Royal Celebrity" sign to take us to the hotel. We cleared Customs and entered the room where we were told our driver would be and were bombarded by everyone BUT our driver. The more specific instructions would have been to go OUTSIDE and eventually find our driver who had a sign with our names on it. While the Courtyard Marriott was a serviceable hotel, it was definitely not on par with the accommodations that we were expecting being on board the Equinox. On the Equinox we had purchased the Go Best package which included the premium beverage package and of course food was included on the ship as well. We believe that we should have been put in a resort that would have reflected those amenities we would have gotten on the ship. An all-inclusive beach resort where we weren't landlocked and trapped in an airport hotel 10 miles from town and beaches would have been more appropriate and acceptable. For the 3 day stay at the hotel we had a total of $323 out of pocket for food and beverage and an additional $6 to pay for Cancun’s “Eco Tax” that was not covered in our room rate. That was money we had not anticipated being spent out of pocket on this trip as it was really meant to be spent on the ship or in our ports of call. April 22nd We knew we were to be transported on Tuesday, April 23rd, 4.5 hours south from Cancun to Costa Maya but we didn't know how or what time. I called the Emergency Travel Team and inquired about it in the morning on April 22nd at 9am Cancun time and they said "they were still working on it" but would confirm with me later that day. I requested a phone call back and they agreed. Another person in our group called a little later that morning and was told we were being transported via bus with a 7am pickup at the hotel. When I called back to confirm that afternoon at 3:30pm since I had never received a phone call back they told me that our pickup time was 530am. Which lead to another phone call by the others in our group and 530am was the time given to them as well. April 23rd Our drivers picked us up at 530 in taxi cab shuttles not really meant for long distance transport. They had a list of who should be in each transport as there were others in the hotel besides the 6 of us. It was at this point that our group was split up again. We arrived at the port around 10am. Our passports were photographed, our bags were searched and then we were told to walk. No one from the ship met us. We had to all walk 3/4 of a mile, through all the tourists in port, in 85+ degree blazing sun, down a pier with hundreds of cruisers walking at you, with all our luggage to the ship. We eventually get to the ship, where there is an officer standing outside the ship with luggage from the downliners that made it there before us and also 1 of the other couples in our party. We proceed to show our passports and the boarding passes I had printed as part of my cruise packet. He looked through the stack of seapasses he had and ours were not there. He radioed for our keys and someone else brought ours along with the other couple's and we finally were able to board at 11am. We were promised our luggage would be delivered to our stateroom in 30 minutes. 4 phone calls and 3 hours later our luggage was finally delivered. We were offered upgraded dining one night for the "inconvenience" that it took so long to get our luggage. It was really another day wasted. At this point all of us were looking forward to relaxing and trying to make the best out of the vacation we had left. We had high expectations especially cruising at the Concierge level on Celebrity. Celebrity is a brand that everyone recognizes as a premiere cruise line and we certainly did not receive that level of service from your Emergency Travel Team nor from the crew and staff once we boarded the ship. We were underwhelmed by the service provided by the pool bar bartenders and the cook at the Mast Grill. The Sunset Bar bartenders weren't much better. All of your staff seemed quite overwhelmed at every turn. The Gastropub service was horrible, we literally watched people walk out because they couldn’t get served and it wasn’t even crowded. I don’t know if it’s always like this or if it’s because the Equinox is going into dry dock next month. The highlights of our trip were the Catamaran/Snorkel excursion in Cozumel, the Martini Bar and its amazing bartenders, and the Silent Disco. We only wish that we hadn’t missed the Silent Disco that took place prior to us boarding the ship. Our Main Dining Room wait staff and sommelier were also very good. To summarize: 1. The consistency and communication from your Customer Service Team and Emergency Travel Team was horrendous. They constantly gave conflicting information to the people in our party. They never communicated anything to us in writing beyond our flight confirmations. They never returned phone calls when we requested returned phone calls to provide us with the information they did not have at the time. Remember, at least one couple was initially told we COULD get flights to Key West. This communication failure goes back to our initial booking of our cruise and flights and being told by the travel team the benefit of booking through them guaranteed that if we missed embarkation in Miami they would get us on the ship “IN THE NEXT PORT” Our first port was Key West on Day 2. Your travel team didn’t get us on the ship until Day 4. 2. The failure of the Emergency Travel Team to put us in accommodations that would have been close to equal of what we were expecting to receive on board the Equinox. Expecting us to pay for food and drink out of pocket when we just paid over $4400 for an all-inclusive cruise is absurd. 3. The fact that we had to transport our own luggage 3/4 of a mile from port to ship in Costa Maya. Absolutely not something anticipated nor expected. Again this is something that should have been communicated by the Emergency Travel Team. While we were informed once we got to the ship that you did not have "port privileges" to assist us with our luggage, might I suggest partnering with the excursion operators that rent golf carts to alleviate this rather strenuous task? 4. We booked and paid for Concierge level and never met our Concierge, Noeme. Considering the difficulties we experienced in getting to the ship and getting on mid-way through its sailing some type of personalized service would have gone a long way in making us feel welcome on board. We also missed some of the perks of Concierge level because we didn't get on in Miami. 5. Our friend's anniversary was never celebrated in the Main Dining Room as it was supposed to have been. I don't know if because we were with another couple celebrating their honeymoon that our anniversary was deemed not important, but again it was a missed opportunity by Celebrity to show us its premiere service. The total cost of our trip, subtracting our airfare, was $4003.70. If you divide that by the 7 day cruise it comes to $571.96 per day. We missed 3.5 days, HALF of our cruise for a total of $2001.85 and Celebrity did the bare minimum to make that up to us. You put us up in an airport hotel at approximately $84 a night with us responsible for our food and drink. Celerity declined to assist or "make it right" in any way what so ever including no credit for any future cruise, which I would not use anyway. Read Less

This is honestly the worst cruise that we have ever been on. The customer service was horrible. The bar tenders near the pool were just rude and did not want to be doing their jobs. There was hardly any music pool side accept for the last day on board and there were never enough lounge chairs..... If you are looking for pool side service and a fun enjoyable experience, DO NOT BOOK THIS SHIP.... also, the specialty restaurant "Tuscany" had the absolute worst service.... I don't know why it is so hard for some people to just smile and make people feel welcome! Absolutely HORRIBLE, we will never use this cruise line again. The only good thing about this ship was the staterooms. The rooms were spacious but I would have traded that for an enjoyable time any day!.... not to mention " I could not believe the night club was a room were people had to wear headphones to listen to music. Literally people dancing in a room with no music.....the strangest experience ever! Read Less

We chose this cruise based on amazing experiences in the past on this ship. The Good the ship is still in decent enough condition. We managed to escape from the bomb cyclone and had decent weather. The Bad The food was hit an miss with food either being overcooked, cold, bland more so than being done right. Waitstaff: on a number of occasions waitstaff in the oceanview cafe could be heard commenting on the appearance of guests making for uncomfortable situations. Would prefer that they do this in their quarters. They also have a problem with waitstaff on one side of the ship ogling women: to the point where we would avoid certain waitstaff. Barstaff: some pleasant, some annoyed to serve. Again their comments about guests were within earshot making for uncomfortable dining experiences. Cabin: We were convinced by an agent to 'upgrade' to the front of the ship. We were mistaken/mislead as to how bad the noise and vibrations would be during embarkation/disembarkation affecting my wife's sleep. She could not deal with the jackhammer/machine gun turret noise/vibration early in the morning. Check out our video and judge for yourselves: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_CT4I1tjeY Guest Relations: When we went to guest relations to deal with the situation, we were treated as though our issue was an absolute mystery. When guest relations was able to decipher our issue, their solution was to send a manager to corroborate our claim, which was also treated as a mystery. When discussing the issue with the cleaning staff, they confirmed was a common issue and not a mystery. Our issue was that the room was advertised as an 'upgrade' without any notification regarding the acoustics of the room. Had we known this information prior to booking, we would not have selected this 'upgraded' room. This ruined our chance to enjoy any new years eve celebration since my wife could not alleviate her headache from lack of sleep. Pool Staff: they are very quick to grab your towels should the wind sweep any indication that you are occupying a lounge. After a swim, I came back to find my shirt and towels gone from my lounge. When asked who/where the towel staff took my shirt and towel, they had no idea and brought me back a woman's hoodie. I specifically told them that it was a green t-shirt - a Christmas gift from my wife. Activities: fine although inconsistent with the schedule. Some were cancelled/no shows. Entertainment: the live music was pitiful. We did not bother with any shows. Bonus??: the captain did offer an open bar due to the disembarkation nightmares in Grand Cayman. This was more trouble than what it was worth as the bar staff denied that there was an open bar. When corrected, they were downright angry to offer any of us a free beverage. Furthermore, there was an offer for free wifi for 2 hours, which was a nice gesture, although it was quite slow. Overall: quite disappointed with the experience. Read Less

We started off wrong by having a problem with our booking. We booked conceige and they did not have us in that type of a room The ship was to capacity and we could not be moved. The first day at sea, I tried to book some tours, they were all sold out and I was told 75% of the tours had been booked before the cruise started! They were working on getting more operators to do the tours. The food was just awful, we were in the Main Dining room and finally we had to complain as my husband got ill twice. They tried to move us within the dining room and they was even worse. They tried to make it up by giving us a pass to the Tuscan Grille. The entertainment was mediocre at best. One of the worse parts for us was the tender coming back from the Grand Cayman. The seas had become very wild and we could not get to the boat. We were thrown all around and they finally told us to put our life jackets on as we were out in the middle of the ocean. We finally got back to shore, where we boarded a bigger boat to bring us back to the ship!. No one even acknowleged we had an issue!! The customs check point in New Orleans was a joke and made it difficult for people who had walking problems The last thing for us was the booking of a tour on Fat Tuesday. No one told us that everything is closed on Mardi Gras. We took this tour and could not even get into the places that were on the tour.. This was the worse cruise we have ever takes. It was disapointing as we love Celebrity and it was our 6th time on one of their ships Read Less

Food was terrible!!! Served spoiled coffee creamer multiple times and molded berries for breakfast. Dropped the ball and ruined our wedding anniversary two years in a row then try to comp a $60 meal, throw in some cut flowers and cheap wine to say we are sorry after we spend over $4000. When it happned in 2015, given future cruise credit to try them again, that was a baited hook for sure because they did the same thing again. 10 nights and only 3 decent meals. Unless you are purchasing a suite and upgrading to their Aqua Class, they are not worried about your experience as they are too busy kissing others butts who much have greener money. Disembarkation day is horrible, lines at full elevators, lines for the dining room, no place to put your stuff where you can keep an eye on valuables. Even experienced verbal scolding by staff when I wouldn't leave my bag with valuables out of my sight. Read Less

This was out first cruise and without doubt our last cruise with this "modern luxury" cruise line. We have written to Celebrity customer services to voice our issues with our holiday which in total cost us over £6000. It comes as absolutely no surprise that we have yet to receive a reply. Celebrity Equinox in our opinion is best described as a floating Moroccan market place. It is constantly sell sell sell sell. You are constantly hassled to buy anything from a drinks package to a £10,000 Tag. Why anybody would buy a watch on a cruise ship is beyond me. Surely for the same price you could fly to Switerland stay in a four seasons and visit Patek Phillipe and still have change. The ship itself is in general not great shape. We watched many poor crew members constantly painting and fixing things around the ship in 35c heat. Our major gripe that we had as it seems with other reviewers on this site is the food. ITS SIMPLY AWFUL. How can any guest service business deliver such a poor poor offering. It was inedible. I could go on and on but will leave it there. My advice for what it is worth is to avoid this company like the plague!! Read Less

Below is a review of our recent cruise on the Equinox. Our reference point for our review of this cruise is our Eastern Mediterranean cruise last August on the Reflection. We were relatively pleased with our cruise last year. Last year we were in Aqua class, no complaints about the Stateroom, we had a mixed experience food wise in Blu but had a horrible waiter who turned us off the restaurant, we found the MDR pretty decent with food of a good quality, good service and variety. We were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food in the buffet restaurant. We found the musical entertainment to be excellent but did not do the shows. We loved both Ensemble and Café al Bacio, but found the Sunset bar and Martini Bar to be just OK. Going on Equinox we had reasonable expectations for this cruise. I will first give an overview of the ship and then the different ports we visited. The review is subjective – I fully appreciate that others on the ship will have had different experiences both positive and negative but as the title suggests this is a personal experience. Embarkation Embarkation was efficient. Took about 20 minutes from dropping off bags to getting on the ship. We got the train from Roma Termini. I would not advise anyone with mobility issues or lots of luggage to do this trip. After getting to the station in Civitavecchia we had To get a local bus to the port entrance and then a second bus to the ship. A transfer is probably far easier or alternatively stay in Civitavecchia the night beforehand as it seems like a pleasant place. Stateroom We had a forward port side cabin on the Deck 11. The cabin was pretty similar to Reflection although we were disappointed that we had to clean the drawers ourselves as they were dirty from the previous guests. To be fair the cleanliness afterwards was of a decent standard although the linen changes seemed to be a lot less frequent than last year –they rotate the same sheets if there is a stain. Also some cost cutting going on with toiletries and we had to ask for more. The stateroom attendant was always pleasant and was helpful if we asked for anything but my suspicion is that they are required to apply new cost-cutting practices. We did find that the balcony was not always useable – we had no warning that work would be done to the deck above and unfortunately ended up being covered in paint chips and rust while sitting out one morning. On another occasion we got wet as there was cleaning going on above. Fellow guests We felt that the mix of nationalities was different to last year. The biggest numbers appeared to be British although may be this was because they were the most visible. It certainly seemed that there were less Americans on board than last year reflecting I suspect some of the recent incidents in Europe. Musical Entertainment We felt that this was definitely not as good as last year. The variety or the talent was not as good and we found by day 3 it was getting boring an very samey. Pool entertainment and experience All I can say here that it is akin to a Butlins experience. Do not expect any tranquility. Do expect stupid and intrusive games together with poor and loud music (some may like this so take this as a personal preference). It felt very crowded compared to the Reflection with a lot of chair hogging for hours with no enforcement. Very few pool butlers around but found the drinks service the two times we were upon deck ok. Equinox Theatre We did not go to the production shows so cannot comment on whether the new shows were any good. Reports from people we spoke to were mixed – some loved, some did not. We did go to a few of the other events such as the couples show and liar which were amusing. Although one comedian show was clearly very British orientated and the general tone was anti-French. Strange to see that kind of humour in a multi cultural environment. In room entertainment An area where cost cutting is clearly be seen. There were only 6 free movies and they were still showing the same episodes of 2013 Top Chef as 12 months ago. This is just lazy. Perhaps ‘modern luxury’ is a one time experience only!! Food and dining On any holiday we expect a good standard of food and service and the evening meal is a critical element to this. Given the prices charged by Celebrity we expect to receive quality food and service in all outlets. Paying in excess of 450 euro per night is not a small amount of money. Buffet restaurant This was a highlight last year but it is clear that there is some heavy cost cutting going on. The quality of food was not great and it did not feel that there was much variety. Further the service for drinks and coffees was remarkably lacking – too few staff but perhaps just another part of the cost cutting exercise. Overall a strength of Celebrity has turned into a big negative as far as we are concerned. Breakfast – the omelettes were good but the poached eggs were completely inconsistent. There was very little salad options. The bacon was extremely salty, the sausages were cheap (last year they were good quality), the hash browns the one day I had them were cooked in dirty oil, the smoked salmon tasted cheap. The fruit was very mixed – some fresh melon but using frozen berries and tinned sweet fruits when they are in season does not represent quality. There was a big push on heavy carb pastry options – if you push these then more expensive ingredients are needed less. It was also really crowded – people pushing. Lunch – aside from the curry, we were generally unimpressed. Variety poor. Meats were dry particularly the Chicken. Had fish one day but it was completely over cooked. Salads were fairly ok but very little variety. Big push on the carb options. The nice prawns and seafood which were available last year did not materialise. Dinner – we had one dinner last year year which was of excellent quality including good seafood, nice meats, salads etc. This time the food was less interesting than the poor lunch. The cold cuts used poor quality meats, the nice Parmesan cheese had disappeared, there was very little variety and not at all tempting. It was also clear that salads from lunch were recycled for dinner. Mast Grill Had lunch here twice after returning from port stops. First time the burger served to us was still raw in the middle. Second time the burger was dry and the fries were not hot. Café al Bacio A highlight last year but did not met expectations this time around. Just felt they were understaffed. Tables took a long time to be cleaned. A longer wait. Although open to midnight, the lovely cakes disappeared around 11.20 which was pretty annoying as we planned dessert there. Blu We did not have high expectations for Blu after last year. Overall it was better than expected. Service at times was outstanding – the Indian wine waiter helpfully sourced a wine we liked from another bar. Although on another occasion the other wine waiter topped up with the wrong wine – we had not even asked for a top up. Overall it was positive. In terms of the food some of it was outstanding – the lamb shank, the scallops, the ceviche, fish cakes. Other dishes were not great for instance the pork medallions were completely dry and the tagliatelle with clams was absolutely terrible. 4 clams and a tonne of over cooked pasta with too little sauce. A few salads were also missing ingredients. This is sloppy. We had 6 dinners here. 2 great, 3 OK, 1 bad. Main Dining Room We liked the MDR last year and this time was no different although there is now one less course on the menu and the portions were smaller. They do allow you to order more but you need to ask. In term of the food we had – the prime rib was delicious as was the onion soup. The lobster tail and the beef Wellington were very good also. Desserts were just ok. Service was on two nights efficient and friendly. On the final night it was terrible. Speciality restaurants We had planned to eat in the Toscane Grill but were advised against by some fellow guests who ate there twice. The other restaurants did not appeal. We think that the lawn club grill is missed on the Equinox. Sushi on 5 opened but it never seemed busy. I am not a sushi lover but I did not think the prices for other items offered value. But if one had on board credit then it could be something to try. Bars Before reviewing the different bars, it seemed to us that there were a lot less servers for the different bars. Maybe this is due to the fact that the majority of passengers are on “complimentary” beverage packages. The drinks are expensive and frequently the more expensive wines (and some lower priced but better wines) on the premium package were not available. Perrier was not available at many of the bars despite it been a signature non-alcoholic drink for the premium package. The up selling from the classic package was relentless over the first few days. We already had it but the bartenders were more interested in trying to sell the package that service was lacking for others. The other annoying thing is that sugar or agave nectar is already in all the “fresh” lemon and lime juices so if you want low sugar cocktails it is not possible. This is not premium and not modern luxury. Ensemble A favourite bar last year and again this year. Good selection of drinks and the Thai bartender was first class (a real asset to the company). Where it was not as good was the music. Same acts every evening with the same music. Sunset Bar Better set-up than on Reflection but never really warmed to it. Staff were brusque unless selling the premium package. World Class Bar Loved the drinks list and the two drinks we had were nice but service was very poor. Did not go back and did not warm to it. Slush Like world class bar – great in theory. Our one experience was trying to order a sugarless cocktail. The bartender did not use the ingredients stated and just filled it up with a cheap and sugary mix not even on the list. Martini Bar Went here. Waited 10 minutes for service. It did not happen so left. Passport Bar Did not stock Chandon Brut or Perrier so did not get a chance to review. Gastro Bar We liked the ambience and the drinks but service was very mixed. Too few staff when busy. Casino Bar Happened to pass by – ordered a Bloody Mary to have on the balcony which was excellent and he even gave us a celery stick which was not provided in the sunset bar. Overall The Reflection experience in 2015 was far superior. All our fears about big line cruises came true this time with poor food, crowded, mixed service and all inclusive. Equinox 2016 has put us completely off celebrity. We went on board expecting to book a few more cruises with them but by day 4 we both independently decided – no way. Celebrity are making corporate decisions whereby what was attractive 12 months ago is no more. We are also noticing a trend in recent reviews as well as similar comments by other Celebrity loyal guests All in all, a poor cruise but we really enjoyed our time on land. Ports of Call Livorno We have been to Florence and Pisa many times so decided to hang out in Livorno. Free shuttle to city centre. Pleasant enough place to wander around. Not much open as it was a Sunday. Only regret was not having a nice lunch off the ship. Villefranche This was a tender port but the scenery in port is beautiful. We decided there and then that we will take a break in this area next year so that took off the pressure of doing too much. We had a lovely day. Wandered around the craft market. Chilled over a glass of wine on a terrace restaurant/bar. Then a few hours on the beach with some nice swims in the Med. Really enjoyable and relaxing. Ajaccio, Corsica Similar to the day before. In the morning we went to the food market. Delicious produce especially the meats. Had a nice wander around the town with some nice boutique shops. Back to the ship for lunch (poor decision) and then spent the afternoon on the beach. Enjoyable day and may consider a weekend there sometime. Palma (overnight) The port is out of town so the shuttle is kind of essential. Although there is a big shopping centre within walking distance of the ship. The shuttle cost 15 euro for the 2 days but unfortunately the last shuttle was 10pm so not really an option for dinner outside. But perhaps we should have.. Nice city. Good shopping. Friendly. We did the Palma Free Walking Tour (you tip) which was quite good and saw some of the main sites as well as getting a flavour of the history of the city and island. Had a delicious lunch on the first day and expect we will go back. The sales in El Cortes Ingles were appreciated. Cartagena We had no real expectations but really enjoyed this stop. Walk off the ship and in the centre within 5 minutes. Had the most delicious fried baby octopus in an unassuming bar in the city. Did some nice walks and had a great day. Valencia Valencia was a bit messy. There was a shuttle for 5euro return to the centre but the organisation was not good. We walked outside and then sent back inside to buy tickets. Contradictory information on when the last bus was etc. Not impressed. The city itself is pleasant. Did a fantastic walking tour of the city with an excellent guide. Free Walking Tour Valencia (tip was generally 10 euro a head). Had a wander around the city. To our regret we did not eat out but sat bus was 3:30 or so, it would have been a little rushed. Enjoyed the tour but not my favourite Spanish city – felt crowded. Read Less

This was our second ever cruise the first one being on the much fated Anthem of the Seas last summer. Where we didn't have a great time on Anthem of the Seas we somehow caught the cruise bug. We flew to Barcelona one night early and really loved the city and the excellent Eurostars Grand Marina hotel. This was indeed the highlight of our holiday as things were about to get a lot worse as we found out. The Ship. Embarkation resembled walking through a Moroccan Market being constantly hassled to buy things. It was dreadful. I don't understand the tactics behind this. Surely if guests wanted dinner reservations, drinks packages this would all be organised before their trip and not whilst getting on the ship. Our room was nice but basic. It strikes me as a little odd why they are about a third of the size of a conventional hotel room. It was clean etc etc but nothing to write home about. Our main concern was the quality of the food offered on board. Having read other reviews on here and speaking with fellow guests during the cruise it seems we were not the only ones bitterly disappointed by a severe lack of quality. Some days the OceanView cafe food was simply in edible. It resembled poor school dinners. The restaurants in the evening were equally as poor. When spending thousands of pounds on a holiday you expect a certain level of quality. It simply does not exist here. All in all we were very very disappointed with this cruise company and suffice to say will never use them again. Read Less

I had read several reviews of this ship prior to booking some good some bad and decided to give it a go. My wife and I are relatively new to cruising but have had some excellent cruises on QM2, Queen Elizabeth, Disney Dream and Royal Princess (which I will review now that I am a member) so we thought we would give Celebrity a try whilst saving on a long flight to the states. I think from the outset as we were embarking the ship we may have realised that we had made a huge mistake. From check-in to the ship we were stopped at least 4 times--"Do we want a drinks package?" Do we want a photo taken?" Do you have speciality dining?" Would you like a Spa visit?" sell sell sell--Alarm bells ringing!!! Once on the ship the same questions over and over again--there was even some poor girl wrapped up like a Mummy on some sort of contraption trying to sell a Spa product--desperate times! I have read recent comments regarding the food offerings on board. Without jumping on the bandwagon we have to pretty much agree that the food is probably the poorest we have ever had at sea. The Cafe section which serves breakfast/lunch and dinner basically offered the same things every day. The quality was very poor as was the selection. Finding a table at breakfast was nearly impossible and it seemed that all social etiquette was forgotten for a 2 hour period each morning as guests were literally shoving each other out of the way to get to their beloved breakfast. Dining at night was equally farcical with long queues for the Main Dining Area and Hostesses who really did not know what was going on. The food here I would describe as very very basic and simply boring. There was nothing to excite or to look forward to. Dinner really became a chore which is not what you go on a cruise holiday for. Thankfully we had quite a large party at our table (all of whom agreed with us regarding the food) and we simply laughed it off and drank wine to drown our sorrows. Service on the ship is generally ok, but I have to agree with other comments on this site regarding the bar staff. It seemed to our party that if you tipped a bar tender say 10 euros you were flavour of the week and would be served with a smile and immediately, however if you didn't then you were castigated to the end of the line and were really treated with contempt--not quite what we signed up for! Our stateroom was ok nothing to write home about. We did notice that we could hear our neighbours quite clearly through the paper thin walls something we have never experienced before on a ship. Stateroom attendant was as they always are first class and did a great job. We went to a couple of shows that were good and well presented but our favourite was Juke Box who were guest entertainers who were brilliant and provided much cheer for those of us who were not really enjoying the Celebrity "Modern Luxury". All in all our Celebrity experience was extremely disappointing. They should perhaps do what the other Cruise Lines do so well and focus on the guest and not the £ signs. Read Less

We chose to sail again on Equinox mainly because of a great cruise we had 3 years ago and a good sailing on Silhouette in April this year. Sadly this once great ship has like many under the RCCL umbrella sank into the budget grouping. I would mention at this stage that a ship has to be really really poor in our opinion for us to post a review. I tried reaching out to the Hotel Director to give some constructive feedback and was contacted by the Restaurant Manager and the F&B Director. Both gave me assurances that things would improve dramatically but unfortunately they did not. I think that the crew and Management of Celebrity Equinox should perhaps realise that the guests on their ship spend vast amounts of money to vacation on their ship and to some its the trip of a lifetime. With this in mind they should perhaps realise that guests have an expectation to be treated like guests and not like "Cash Cows" and to be looked down upon by the majority of the food and beverage department. Food. The food on this ship is extremely poor. We ate a few times in the main dining room which was very poor indeed with limited menu changes. I realise that it must be difficult to cook for so many guests at one time but if you are offering this service then you should be able to execute the service and deliver a high quality food offering. Sadly the Silhouette dining room does not. Instead you are presented with look warm food that has obviously been left under heat lamps, steaks that are of a poor quality and overcooked, desserts that are obviously "bought in" and portion sizes that my 6 year old son would still be hungry after---cost cutting at its very best. We then decided to eat in the speciality restaurants and nothing really improved. Tuscan Grill Filet Mignon not cooked properly, side orders dripping in oil, onion soup very poor etc etc. Ocean View Cafe is a disorganised disgrace. There is no reason at all that the food should be so so bad. It is practically inedible. The staff in this area with 2 exceptions look and act like they just don,t want to be there, especially the bar staff who are just so disinterested in offering anything remotely like service. The Carvery offerings especially the beef are simply dreadful. Breakfast is hit or miss. All in all its not a good place to be. Room service was not available for the first 48 hours of the cruise then we managed to place an order. I would say that it was average. Service. Whilst the food is dreadful, the service in the dining rooms is generally good with the exception of the Tuscan Grill where we witnessed several crew members eating and drinking in the restaurant and getting all of the service whilst diners including ourselves looked on with empty glasses and dirty plates on the table. Service at the bars as previously mentioned is no existent. The Deck Bar staff are bordering on being rude whilst having no concept of how to manage a busy bar. Glasses are filthy as they are left to dry in the sun after being washed in a dirty glass washer. There are no bar servers at all on the solstice deck and they are generally to be found "moaning" behind their respective bars on deck 12\14. On a slightly more positive note the service in Cafe Al Bacio is stunning. Very very attentive and personable. I would suggest that the staff from here are deployed to other beverage areas of the ship. In terms of the drinks packages on the ship, we had a classic package included in our reservation (we did not ask for one or pay for one) the Bar Staff have this mentality of giving you the least amount of drinks they possibly can. We like a drink on holiday (who doesn,t) and tried ordering 2 drinks at the same time--1 for my wife and 1 non alcoholic drink for my son. As we had only brought 1 stateroom card as most people do we were told emphatically that we could order only 1 drink with 1 card even though they could obviously see that all members of our party had the drinks package. A small detail perhaps but one that annoyed a lot of guests on board. Cabin. We chose a sunset deck cabin on deck 6, which was very pleasant and was very well maintained by our cabin steward as they normally are. Our 1 concern was that we were being charged for drinks from the mini bar that we did not drink--slightly bizarre and we think this was based upon drinks we had brought to our cabin from the deck bars. We've chosen Celebrity 3 times before and we thought we knew what to expect. Good food, good service, relaxation. In fact we'd been on the Equinox before just 2 years earlier. This cruise was at best "poor". The excursions were mostly extortionate and most of the ports were completely uninteresting or inconvenient without paying for the excursions. But we don't particularly enjoy being with a bus load of cruise passengers all day so we prefer to normally do our own thing. This worked great in our Fjord cruise for instance. But on this cruise it was basically awful. Most of the ports are lined with taxi drivers badgering you to take their taxi or buy their tat. The surrounding areas were uninteresting and with the exception of Pisa, none of them had a worthwhile travel option with local transport. So welcome to a port and if you want to go anywhere then you need to walk. This was especially dodgy in Naples. The food in the main dining hall was also noticeably poor. I wont bother with the details. We paid the extra for the alternative restaurants and these were more like we expected. The contrast with the bog standard in the main hall was quite obvious. The other thing that we noticed more in this cruise was how we were almost constantly targetted for marketing from the ship. It felt like a floating tourist trap. Irritating pushy photographers literally will NOT let you walk past without forcing you to pose for a pointless photo. We actually found ourselves planning our routes through the ship because neither of us enjoy being forced to have our photos taken. This was all over the ship and it was also IN the dining hall and also in the Cafe Baccio place. We told the photographers "no thanks" but that made f all difference. By the end, I could recognise them and I could see that they knew we were the ones who said no before. This is just a tiny part of the whole marketting experience of the ship, The daily brochure with ART SALE and watches and the ludicrously expensive bingo. Basically everything was a very obvious rip off. Which leads me to the real nail in the coffin from our perspective. The reason we will never sail with Celebrity again is because of the gigantic bill we got when we got home from their "Cellular at sea" phone system. The ship has a paid Wifi connection so if you want internet then this is what you should use. Our phones have free european roaming so I wasn't worried about roaming charges. This made no difference. At some point my phone connected to the cellular at sea and unbeknown to me, it received 34Mb of data from the ship. This is a tiny tiny tiny quantity of data. The ship billed my phone for more than £500.. That's around $800. to put this in context, we used over 2000Mb of data during our cruise from the italian, spanish etc phone companies. By sheer luck, we didn't see a similar download on the cellular at sea extortionate service. When I phoned celebrity they told us they were not willing to rescind the cost. The ships that offer this service must be ripping off their customers by gigantic quantities of cash from this and celebrity must be making a killing from it. The whip already has cheap-ish wifi that also goes on the satellite, so having a phone service that can inadvertently be connected to and is charged at £500 for a tiny download suggests that nobody should ever use this service unless they absolutely love burning money. The wifi is a tiny fraction of the cost. Clearly Celebrity know all of this already and they choose to continue using it as a way to basically ROB their customers for hundreds or possibly thousands of $'s. My phone could have downloaded 10 times this much and we would have been forced to swallow this bill. What a disgusting way for them to make money. Basically I would not recommend this company to anyone any more. And we previously thought Celebrity was our preferred cruise company. Better than the cattle treatment of Royal Caribbean (at least that's what we thought before) . But now the difference is quite slim. Celebrity have definitely gone downhill. They do not respect their customers. Everything is about money. The whole experience is monetized. Our state room attendants were nice though. Our next cruise will be with a better company because this was not an enjoyable experience. Coming home to the final insult of the deliberately extortionate phone bill confirms my suspicions of the management Just don't. Read Less

Maybe one of the worst cruise ships I have been on, food not only cold but pointed mostly Asian. The main dinning room food was terrible, the steak (New York Strip) was about 1/4 inch thick or less and served cold similar to what they called minute steak in the upper deck grill. Waiters tried to make light of this, what could they do really. Mostly was disappointed with tours: Mexico was scheduled for 1 hr 45 min but lasted less than 40 min. I ask and they said we were to see only 20 percent, lucky if we saw 8 percent. Tour guide was mostly just running his mouth about himself. I want a cruise line to stay in port at least two days so one could see and enjoy the counties we visit. St George, Grand Caymen, What a disaster, 7 cruise ships at once, took the tender in and returned almost as soon as we arrived. So many people one could not move let alone shop if they desired. All I can say: Never again!!!!! Have traveled on several different named cruise ships this was by far the worst. Cabin Stewart was excellent, very helpful and respectful. It was a ship full of the most crude and rude people I ever have seen Read Less

I did my first cruise on the Celebrity Solstice in 2012 round the Mediterranean and it was the most magical experience everything from the beauty of the ship and the cleanliness the way in which we were cared for excellent. Celebrity x helped us when our travel agent let us down so we had no hesitation in booking direct felt it would be nice to be back in safe hands. What a mistake initially everything went ok holiday booked what could go wrong. Just about everything, Our initial sailing booklet didn't arrive I checked spam nothing, I phoned up to say how did we get our luggage tags was assured I would be informed when this was in August. By September I was beginning to get nervous however I did eventually get said booklet and was told my luggage tags would be here. I then asked about a connection from the airport to the ship and was told for 19euros this was possible. When I phoned up about it got someone completely different who said it was not possible so I asked what was the port address for the ship and the person I was speaking to had little English spelt out the name which turned out to be wrong. The Barcelona Airport hotel sorted that one out for us. Baggage tags never arrived eventually sent some sticky luggage tags from the complaints department We did not get the email about the virus being on the ship and arrived at the time suggested only to join hundreds of people waiting. I have to say I am all for the methods adopted on health and safety and the company did offer travel back to Barcelona however we had flown in late the night before were tired and decided to stay put. All the passengers were offered a bottle of water and either a packet of crisps or a bar of chocolate very suitable for a diabetic - what was wrong with some tea or coffee and a roll it surely wasn't that difficult. When we did get on a glass of sparkling wine was enjoyable but not the person trying to sell a 3 meal deal. The room was comfortable but a little tired and all the little extra's did eventually appear over the next 8 days. I had trouble with my electrics and when my hot brush decided to overheat and start smoking I let Guest relations know in case the fire alarm went off I was told someone would come up no one did. Two days later my phone charger also decided to give up the ghost, I asked the room attendant twice if someone could look at the sockets as this did not happen on me earlier cruise. We were woken up in the middle of the night by the air conditioning going off the lights wouldn't work and the emergency lighting came on. It was a little concerning. After we left Lisbon we went down to arrange our dinner booking and the smell of diesel was really clawing thankfully I wasn't eating in that part of the ship that evening. The staff we had in the dining room and the co-ordinator were fantastic, as was the staff in the Sky Lounge enjoyed the drink and nibbles. The gastropub was a favourite the girls their very funny and helpful. The café al Bacio served the most delicious iced teas and great coffee these were our ship highlights. The food was very good with quite a selection for every taste. The Canapé's delivered to the room sadly were not a patch on the last time I had to ask for a fork or spoon to be delivered and they certainly were not finger food. The excursions off the ship were on the whole pretty good as was the 3 meals off shore a good mix of places with plenty of time to see them. My overall impression was tired ship, stress in some of the staff in short a real end of season feel to the cruise leaving us very disappointed in comparison to the 2012 experience. Read Less

Picked this cruise because of the ports of call, but found the cruise company to be poor. The food on board was bland, over cooked and lacking in any quality. We visited Spain, France, Italy, Greece and Turkey and non of the meals were authentic to the place we visited. The wine on board was poor low grade wine and over priced while again traveling through wine counties, never had any "casa" wine on board. We ate lunch each in the city we visited and had house wine with lunch and was never disappointed and highest we ever spent was about $20 USD. The rooms were not provide with ice or any means of getting or have ice in the room. The refrigerator was small and filled with the cash bar drinks, leaving no room for our things, had to have the drinks removed but they had to stay in the room occupying space. No laundry facilities on board except ship laundry with cost more than the cost of the item being laundered, sock -$3, shirt -$6, and so on. Literature received from Celebrity said we needed a Visa to get in to Turkey but no one at check in know anything about a visa and said it was not needed, no announcement in disembarking saying a visa was required - Turkey requires a Visa, I had it but was disturbed that the staff had no clue about a visa. We elected to most tours on our own. The ship however never stopped at the city being advertised but at a close port requiring transportation to the city. The cost of this transportation was to costly. We found after a few days the means of catching locale public transportation at about 10% of the ships cost. But some of the ports were in the shipping yards making it impossible to catch local transportation, with their bus service costing $16 per person while local transportation was $4 or $5. We would do this itinerary again but look for docking ports not to be located in industrial port, even going on tenders would be better so as allow us more opportunities to explore on our own. If you like bland unexciting food and little organization travel with Celebrity. Read Less

We cruised for two weeks from Istanbul to Barcelona on 24th August. We were surprised at how Celebrity standards had slipped since we last cruised with them. We had a novovirus outbreak for the entire cruise but communication was bad and we had to rely on rumour which suggested there were up to 450 cases. Plates were dirty, cups were chipped and cracked and service was more akin to a Greek ferry. Constant pressure to upgrade beverage packages and overpriced port shuttles where, in some cases, there were free port shuttles. We left Istanbul early due to some perceived security threat. We were to sail at 9pm on 24th instead of 1pm on 25th; we missed out on much of the fascinating city of Istanbul. Eventually sailed at midnight so I guess the security threat was not too serious. This was about my 50th cruise 3rd with Celebrity, what a total waste of time and money, all of the content is in my opinion and not aimed to be slanderous in any way, this review is factual and was what experienced by my wife and our three children. Firstly our day in Istanbul was cancelled due to security risks!! poppy cock and the incident happened in Izmir some 50 miles away, would Celebrity cancel a cruise from Miami if there was a security scare in Orlando? no compensation offered for this very last minute alteration to the itenery, we were not allowed to go ashore after boarding at 13.00 hrs and sailing at 23.10 hrs. Due to the day in Istanbul being cancelled the first day was spent at sea at a walking pace which was good for Celebrity as the ship became a " Cash Cow " for the cruise line. On boarding the ship it appeared to be filthy and on our balcony there was green mouldy water in the gullies, this remained for 12 days until pointed out to the guest relations. As soon as we emerged in public areas we were hassetled to upgrade the drinks packages and was then left alone once agreed to. This ship had an extremely unhappy crew and good service was the last thing on the majority of the staffs mind, I suppose having over 60 different nationalities is difficult to achieve working harmony. With a novo viorous outbreak on day one later confirmed the ship became very awkward with no books in the library, no self service available in the buffet and no mini snacks in the bars such as nuts and pretzels. To get a decent meal on board along with service you had to pay the surcharge to eat in the specialty venues, the food in the main dinning room was bland uninteresting and often served luke warm and overcooked, tables were no prepared with missing cutlery and crockery all in all food has been better on cross Chanel ferries. Cabin service was OK but when the staff wanted to service they came in and worked around us trying to get changed and pack on the final evening. On one instance we saw a cockroach in the dinning room pointed it out to a member of staff who denied by stating "no bugs on this ship !!" Then a few minutes later returned with a black bottle top saying this was the bug, trying to make light of the situation which I found to be most insulting. In summary this has been by far the worst cruise I have ever taken, bore no resemblance to previous Celebrity cruises and just could not believe how rude and arrogant so many of the staff were. On the plus side the shore excursions were good but vastly overpriced and the entertainment was above average. I am sure the Equniox is just an unhappy filthy ship and the other members of the fleet will be much better, this was the view of other passengers on board some who had taken over 20 Celebrity cruises and vowed it would be their last. Let's hope you are more lucky than us should you choose Celebrity. Read Less

I have taken 25 cruises in my lifetime– about 1.5 a year since birth– and I had traveled with Celebrity about 10 years ago. I hated that cruise, and decided that I would try it again considering they have significantly improved. Well... that was a mistake. I would trade the $3000 we spent on this cruise for a $1000 Carnival cruise in a heartbeat because of how terrible it was! First, this ship is much too overpriced from the cruise ticket itself to the price of the beverage package and dining extras. We LOVE good food. The food on this ship was horrendous. We even tried spending $100 eating at Murano and we had to send back two dishes because my meat was cold and my husbands was just plain disgusting. Every night in the main dining room we had at least one dish that was rendered inedible, whether it was undercooked, burnt, or just plain overpowering. It was like they are trying to be modern and upscale with fancy dishes, but they could never pull it off, and it left us having to suffer through the bad room service sandwich at 11pm because we were still starving. The wait staff just made the experience worse! Our head waiter never once said hello, never asked us how our day was, never told us anything about himself, couldn't speak much English and would only suffer through trying to describe the dishes before he would run back to the kitchen. The rest of the evening we never saw him and was served by the asst. waiter, who definitely didn't speak much English. We ended up relying on our sommelier for everything, and she was the only good part of the entire affair. No matter what money we spent, the food was always terrible at dinner. That being said, the lunch buffet was even worse! There was only ever sandwiches, nasty pizza and asian cuisine. When we went to the dining hall for lunch instead we were rushed through by the waiters to the extent that I had indigestion and couldn't actually taste the food. We picked Celebrity because we were told it was the best for foodies.... well, it was the worst. My college spring break Carnival cruise had significantly better tasting food-- sure it was simpler, but it was at least tasty. That brings me to the drinks onboard.... they ran out of all of the premium beverage options by the second day of the cruise. No premium water bottles, no Vitamin Water, no Diet Coke, no top shelf hibiscus liqueur (used for at least 5 of Celebrity's premium cocktails that we were never able to try because they couldn't make it without this), and, by the last 2 days, no more wine by the glass with very few exceptions. I intentionally purchased the premium package because I love wine, I love martinis, and I love bottles and bottles of water throughout the day..... well at least half of the options were gone by the time we were on our last day. And, to make matters worse, the bartenders would refuse to make anything that wasn't on the menu (EVEN IF I TOLD THEM THE INGREDIENTS AND SAW THAT THEY HAD THEM!) and some of the sommeliers wouldn't give replacements for the glasses of wine that they had run out of... so the list just kept getting smaller and smaller to the point where all I could drink was a Reisling or a Merlot. Now, if you like to tan and relax by the pool... this boat is NOT for you. On our day at sea I literally felt sick looking over the pool deck. There is only one outdoor pool (ONE?!?!? WHY????), and it was filled to the brim with people that you could barely see the ground. You couldn't walk without being bumped and pushed, and there was only the occasional waiter who would rather walk the other way when you make eye-contact than actually serve you. I actually had one look straight at me, say "I'll be right back" instead taking my order and then never returning. The pool boys also couldn't help you get a drink, and their response was "I'll go get a drink waiter" and then disappear and never had a waiter come back for you. I had to get up and go to the bar every time. There was also a slush bar, that arguably served the only good drinks on the cruise, but it was only open from 12-5pm sharp. No, you could not enjoy it if there was a late embarkation day. Also, there is a top tanning deck, but you still have to walk down to the pool to get a towel since there is only one towel stand, there is no water source on any other deck but the pool (no refreshing shower or hot-tub like on many other ships), and the seats were crammed together like a chicken coop with no way to enjoy any rest. We felt more stressed than relaxed every time we tried to stretch out with a good book and get sun. So, go into the closed roofed Solarium, they say. Well, as lovely as that is, the seats and the most uncomfortable and impossible to politely sit down into of any lounge chair I've ever sat in. Firstly, they are all connected wooden boards with the cushion on top... so to get on you literally have to crawl from the end on your knees and then turn when you get to the top and plop down.... let's not talk about then trying to get up. Also, the chairs either lay completely flat or at a deep recline... so it was virtually impossible to read a book without straining your neck or stuffing three bundled up towels behind your head. NO FUN Okay, now let's talk about the room steward.... he would NEVER remove our trash. He would knock on our door once every hour starting at 9am until we left, regardless of if we told him a time when we would leave or not. He would leave the glasses without changing them or the coffee cups from room service breakfast. We had to bring all of our dirty glasses and dishes out the door and on the floor before they would be taken. I have NEVER had such bad service. LASTLY.... do NOT trust the acupuncture "doctor" or the ship doctor. I was roped into buying a 125$ 50 minute acupuncture session (that, of course, has an 18% service charge in addition to the 125... yes.. crazy). I told him that I has serious digestive issues recently due to Candida overgrowth that my doctor just handed me drugs to fix. I asked if he could help me more naturally. He promised I would feel "a million times better just in an hour of treatment." Well, when he stuck me in the hand I had a searing pain go up my arm, I told him it hurt and to stop. He said my immune system was "broken" but he kept sticking me everywhere anyway. Then I told him i had a tingly sensation and my stomach was hurting. He told me that was normal and it would go away in a minute. So... after he made me sit there for 50 minutes I started to feel incredibly dizzy and nauseous. He told me (after the procedure, of course) that this was a normal side effect and that I should not drink any more alcohol until the end of the cruise and sent me on my way. I continued to get more and more sick, and proceeded to throw up all of dinner. I called him back and he said it was normal. So I asked Guest Relations for Tums or Pepto Bismol as I explain the story to them. They are wonderful and refund me, but they send me to the Doctor's office and say that they can give me a free shot that helps stabilize nausea. PERFECT. I get to the Doctor's office, and the Doctor precedes to make fun of me for my illness that he said "does no exist and no doctor would ever tell you you have Candida that causes you discomfort." He says that it isn't possible that my doctor gave me 30 days worth of Diflucan and actually started to laugh. He then makes fun of me for eating dinner when my stomach was sick. Well, after receiving the shot, the Doctor told me husband and I that I was to be QUARANTINED IN MY STATEROOM FOR THE NEXT 24 to 48 HOURS!!!!!! We asked him to reconsider considering we know it was caused by the procedure and the acupuncture doctor confirmed that it was a normal side effect. He said that he entered my symptoms into the CDC system and the government insists that anyone that vomits must be quarantined for the safety of the other passengers, and that he had no choice at all. WELL... we through a fit, and I said that I was leaving the ship at the next port and not getting back on.... he said he wouldn't allow me to disembark and was going to tell the Italian government my symptoms so that they would not let me on shore. He was by-far the rudest member of the Celebrity staff, and I finally just insisted that I would not comply until I spoke with Guest Relations. So, THANKFULLY, by 1am, the manager on duty came down to the infirmary, listened to my story, and told the doctor to remove the quarantine and that it was all ridiculous. We finally were able to get to sleep by 2:30am. Needless to say, we missed our tour to Amalfi and barely got to see anything that day because we were so tired. Horrible. DO NOT take this cruise. I am so upset by the whole affair Read Less

We arrived on board about 11:30 am went for lunch as our room was not ready, but that was expected. As soon as we arrived and every few minutes we were constantly asked to up grade our beverage package. We were told that the package we had really did not include much, so we upgraded and ordered a drink, 20 minutes latter I asked about our drinks to find out they did not have the juice that was on the signature drink, so we ordered a beer received it in another 10 minutes. By 1:30pm when the announcement was that rooms were ready, we went to our room to unpack as we thought we had priority luggage. By 3:30pm I called to find our luggage to be told it should be there in a few minutes. By 7:00pm and three phone calls later we went to Guest Services to inquire, were told the luggage was in our room, went up to room to find it not there. Called Guest Services again, and arrived about 20 minuets latter. Meanwhile, we tried to make reservations for dinner, called from 1:30pm when arriving in room till 5:00 pm before we finally went to restaurant to be told reservations were closed now. The service for drinks was none existent, other then the first few hours till we got the upgraded package we had to get all our drinks ourselves at the bar, the staff was sometimes around but would not ask or even try to make eye contact so we could get a drink. Other than our stateroom attendant, most of the employees on board said all the right things but could not even crack a smile. The Food During one dinner one of my escargot was not only cold but not cooked. As for the chicken, it was better on an airplane, no flavor at all, presentation was lackluster and there was no variety in the sides, it was always mashed potatoes, carrots, green beans. On formal night the lobster and butter was cold, so we could not eat it. My coffee and my husband’s coffee arrived separately. All in all it was OK, but not what a 6 star Cruse line should have. Entertainment Or lack of, by 10:30 pm there was nothing left, other then a singer and piano player to sleep by. There was only one show per night that we missed as we had dinner later. But speaking to other passengers we made friends with, we did not miss much. They either walked out or stayed, as there was nothing else. At one point we had a charge on our room charges, went to Guest Services to inquire, after waiting for so long I inquired about all the above. Spoke to a person who would not look at me while I spoke she just kept looking over my head at something past me, and had to repeat myself several time, at one point I told her she was not listening to me and not answering what I asked. I was trying to get drink charges removed as we had the primium drink package, she said she remove it. After we were able to get access to our room service charges in room found out the charge was in fact not removed. Went to play Bocce, we arrived at the announced time were told we might not have time to let us play, fare enough, but we got called, got up then over the microphone so all could hear that no we could not as they were going to start the second round instead. The trivia was so uneventful it took 15 minuets to complete 15 questions with answers, I assume the cruse director had other plans as he could have phoned it in. The guests were great, our neighbors were there on their 50th anniversary and travelled with Celebrity several time, they were so upset they would rethink if they ever returned to Celebrity. A lot of the guests were in the same part of their lives as my husband and I, retired and looking to have a good time. We did have a good time because our excursions were good, the other gests were pleasant and we make the best of things. Unfortunately our good time was in spite of Celebrity not because of Celebrity, which is what we paid for. Read Less

Firstly the ship is lovely and very clean, But what they dont tell you is! That the price you see displayed for goods on board is not what you pay! they add a further 15% vat plus tip automatically (please note they dont mention this but you can have the tip removed) Before you disembark they will add a charge to your room for tipps etc! (you dont have to pay any tips and you can have this removed too) and if you really want to tip a member of staff just give that person the cash! If your cruise stops in certain ports you will not be allowed to leave the port unless you pay for the shuttle bus! (this you can demand back as if like me your port charges was included) They will give you no advice on tours unless you booke them through them! if anything they will say its not safe to sare you into booking throu them! if you do book through them you will be paying a lot more than if you walked out of the port and did it yourself! They will try and sell you an expensive drinks package which unless you are staying on board constantly and drinking a lot you will not get value for money for! remmember if your of the boat all day you are paying twice once for the drinks package the other when you are out and about on shore! They will tell you that the public transport system is not realiable, when in fact its probably more realible then their tours obviously do not leave it to last minute to get back on board! If you book via america you will save money! and most american companies allow you to cancel for free! Read Less

I looked forward to this cruise since booking it months in advance. Unfortunately, it was a disaster. I had to wait an additional 20 minutes (for a supervisor) to go onboard because they had my cabin assignment incorrect. Luggage arrived at 7pm (couldn't shower or change for dinner). Had to ask 5 people where the life boat drill was being held before getting the correct location. The bed was so hard and uncomfortable I had to miss an onshore excursion due to terrible back pain and leg cramps. Cabin valet said there was nothing he could do about my late luggage or the terrible bed. They had the wrong person's name assigned to my cabin for the whole trip. All of the public bathrooms had only cold water and 1/2 of the soap dispensers were empty. The food at the buffet was cold, greasy and not seasoned well. Murano served rancid venison. The chef said it was fine and I didn't know what wild game tasted like. My expensive bottle of wine turned to vinegar because they didn't use a proper wine cork. They used the original cork. I told them to toss 1/3 of the bottle. Onshore excursions were a joke. 1st one the guide got us back late to the ship- it had to wait for us so that it could leave port. 2nd one the guide had a thick Norwegian accent and spoke extremely fast. I couldn't understand her. Decided to leave the tour early and spent 200 euros on a taxi to take me back to port. Guest relations wouldn't give me their fax number so I could call my doctor to get a signed prescription for medication I ran out of on the trip. I had to wait 2 hours to see the ship's doctor. I informed a Celebrity representative about my eventful cruise when I returned home. She offered me an apology and nothing else. UGH!!! On a positive note- 5 of the crew members were spectacular (I mentioned them by name to the rep) and the food in Silhoutte was fabulous. Read Less

We started our back to back cruise on March 27th and ended on April 17th, 2015. This is the third back to back we have done and we look forward to each and every one. We had arrived in Ft. Lauderdale two days before simply to have extra fun and sun time. We arrived at the Terminal around 11 o'clock and within a few minutes were checked in and on our way. We had the same cabin for the two cruises and that made things easy (unpack once and your done). Our veranda cabin (7151) was right opposite the front elevators which I didn't know if I would like, but the room was very quite and was accessible to everything. We would ride up in the morning and walk across the top deck and be at breakfast in no time along with feeling the breeze blowing and taking in the great views. Our cabin steward Robin and Gere were terrific. The room and ship were as always, ship shape. We did not book any specialty restaurant because we find the Main Dining room is great. Our waiter (Shine) was wonderful along with his assistant Vishnu, who kept us entertained and up to date on the various ports. We enjoyed conversations of families and home towns. We enjoyed trading stories and loved both guys. They were dedicated employees and hard workers. The Matre'd, Martin, was fantastic and was going home after our cruise, he deserved a break and time with his loved ones, he was a great guy. The Cruise Director, Patty Hornicki, was one of the best in all of our 18 cruises. She had an Activities Director, Sharma, who was a ball of fire. They both kept things moving and fun with activities at every point in the cruise. The nightly shows were great with a great band, Men of Rock and a Beatles group that was very good, along with magicians and the great cast of dancers and other acts on the ship. They were top notch and we enjoyed the shows so much we went back to see some of them twice. The Cirque show was fantastic and we would have liked to see more. The discos and dances by the pool at night were great and a good way to meet people. We hung out at the Passport bar and the staff there was wonderful. They were happy and very interesting. We met some very nice people there and met up for drinks almost every night. Those guys work their tails off. We did meet some staff from a few years ago and enjoyed catching up with them. We really didn't go on many shore excursions since we have been to most of the islands several times but we enjoyed the time on the ship. There was a group of Harley owners on the first leg of the trip and we were in wonder when we docked and they took their bikes off to join an island group to go out for the day and the way Celebrity treated their needs to take off and put on the bikes at each stop. Have pictures and everyone was amazed at the process. We enjoyed the sea days as well as port days. All in all we loved the trip, can you tell, and have already booked a back to back next year. We are looking forward to possibly meeting up with some of the same friends and staff and having a lot of fun. Celebrity is our favorite can you tell, we have tried others but we don't even check them out anymore. Hope this is helpful. C&B Read Less

We were in a platinum suite for our 7 night Adriatic cruise. Our butler and cabin steward were fantastic. They didn't fix our problems but they were honestly trying (more than I can say about anyone else on the ship.) Celebrity is TERRIBLE. We called them the first night to tell them we had no hot water. 4 days later, they finally fixed it. The only problem was we ONLY had hot water. It was scalding. Another day before they fixed that issue for about 2 hours. This was the same day the toilet stopped flushing. The water issue was never properly fixed. No hot water. Only hot water. Back to no hot water. We asked for help taking our bags down for our early departure out of Istanbul and we told that wouldn't be possible. General disembarkment started 2 hours after our departure. They were not busy, they were just lazy. I washed my hair in the bathroom sink in the mornings because the water temp was too cold for a full shower. Our platinum level suite and we couldn't even use the shower and on occasion, the toilet. No porter. No excuse for such service. Guest Services offered a $350 credit towards our next cruise but I really don't think so. The food was average at best. Suites offer nothing special except a butler that really serves no purpose. (poor guy) Room-service is dull and tasteless. There is an extremely limited menu. Our extra large balcony had some sort of ladder parked blocking part of the view. On board, everything was extra and it was very nickle and dime with things other cruise lines consider standard service. Coffee? Extra. Gelato? Extra. Employees were either fantastic or openly rude. Nothing in-between. We saw many a furious guest telling a rude employee off. The response was apathetic and dismissive. While their ships are clean and the ports are charming, I can not give one reason why you would chose Celebrity over Regents or Princess. They are drastically inferior with their service, the food, their plumbing and their appreciation towards their customers. Read Less

The cruise started out great, ports of call were great. Then came the sea days, 7 days at sea with little or no entertainment. What little entertainment there was rotated around the crew like Dancing with the strips, crew volley ball, bean bag toss with the crew. When the crew left so did the band, they took down the volley ball net and packed up the bean bag game. That left NOTHING for the guests to do. we asked them to leave the bean bag game out and after some arguing with the they did but when we went to set the game up they turned on the water fountain. After getting very upset at one of the pool butlers the last day of the cruise we finely got a DJ to play some music. Everyone went wild and started having a good time. This made for a very long and boring trip at sea. We have cruised with Celebrity several times and this was our second trip on the Equinox and our last. The food was way below par for Celebrity and the service and attitude of the crew and staff was terrible. Being a captain's club member serves no purpose on this ship as we were told there were no bridge tours the later in the cruise guests that were not members got bridge and engine room tours. Celebrity keep saying the Equinox is there #1 ship, well I beg to differ. Very Disappointed Read Less

We booked this cruise because of the wonderful reviews and high rating. We were well prepared to have a blast and enjoy some great food. Ship looked gorgeous. We walked in to our cabin and right away noticed strange smell, like somebody in this room smoked before and the smell remained in everything, the walls the bed etc. I told our state room attendant and to ask him to deodorize. Also walking down the hallway I noticed smoke smell, like somebody in one of the rooms was smoking, which is strictly prohibited. I notifies guest relations and asked to follow up. How surprised I was when guest relations told me that nobody is smoking because it's not allowed and to call them in to my room when I smell smoke again. I asked if they also expect me to stay in the hallway all day long to catch the smoker? Or perhaps room attendants would smell the smoke when they clean up? I called some friends in to our room to make sure that we are not crazy and they also smelled the cigarette smoke. Our room attendant however smelled nothing, nor did his supervisor. But I am pretty sensitive to different odors and was waking up with the headache. I complained again and my stateroom attendant offered to clean the room for me again. After the cleaning room smelled pretty fresh and seemed like the smoke smell was gone. Next day after excursion I came in to our room take a nap before dinner and could smell something different, some very strong chemical odor. I could not understand where the smell is coming from, Within 15 minutes it triggered a migraine headache so bad that I could hardly get off the bed. I rolled over to the other side of the bed to get ibuprofen and realized that it does not smell so bad here. Right away I looked under my bed and found a plate with the towel soaked in a very strong, concentrated solution. I just took the plate in to the corridor and handed it to the room attendant. Without even asking me if it's OK to deodorize the room with such a strong smelling chemical, he put this concentrated solvent right under my bed. It's a good thing I found it. Never the less my day was ruined. This migraine can last up to 5 days and I was terrified that perhaps the rest of my cruise was ruined as well. The smell was still lurking in the room. I called reception and complained again and this time they send supervisor to clean and deodorize(with odorless deodorizer) my room again. The next day I woke up with the same terrible migraine, could not go on the excursion, lost the money we paid for it and spent entire day in bed. To sum it up: nobody bothered to offer us a different room, refund excursion money, nobody bothered so much as to apologize. All I've heard was we don't smell anything but we'll clean it for you. Second problem was dining experience. Originally when we booked this cruise we asked to be seated at a table for 6. This way we get to meet new people and have more fun. We were assigned a table for 2. Asked head of the dining room and to move us to a table for 6 or 8. Got a table for 6 downstairs in the main dining room but not only it was so noisy that we could not hear each other, we were the only 2 people at the table :-) Went back and asked to be moved again upstairs where is allot quieter to a table for 6-8. No luck, there was only table for 4 and we were the only 2 people at it. So finally we gave up and took the table. Our waiter was not too friendly and not too communicative. Strictly business, take an order and go. Menu was not impressive. My husband ordered fish encrusted in crab which turned out to be baked fish with crab meat on top. Veal was too dry, my filet mignon was medium well and pretty dry. Steaks were tough and people were returning it. On formal night we were not offered lobsters. Escargot was not on the menu at all. So after couple of nights in the main dining room we gave up and started eating other places. Thank god for sushi station at the dinner buffet. 1 time we went to the specialty restaurant but even that was not as good as we remembered it from our cruise on Constellation so we canceled the rest of reservation and just ate sushi. Breakfast buffet was ok. Omelets station was not offered every day. There was no lean breakfast meats like turkey bacon. It was the choice of bacon or Canadian bacon fried in bacon fat. Cheese blintzes were not too bad if they were fresh...allot of times they were from yesterday and from heating too many times cheese was getting brown. Caramelized apples were offered but most of the time they were bitter from sugar burning. I also found hair in potato hash which was disgusting. My husband found hair in chili. I saw other guests complaining about it as well. One time my husband got ice cream and it was spoiled, sour. I have no idea how that is possible. Deserts were terrible, mostly creams and mousses. Not a single normal cake. Not even during chocolate extravaganza. It was really disgraceful. The worst pastry experience ever. I think they really need to consider changing the pastry chef as well as head chef. I have never seen such a sloppy food handling as well as such bad food quality ever on any of the ships. However there are some pros to this cruise. Entertainment is really top notch. Several productions shows and especially the last nights show "Avatar" spin off with dancers and acrobats was one of the best I've ever seeing, real Broadway quality. The magician and instrumentalist were quite lame. Instrumentalist would have been fine if he would not attempt to sing. The rest of entertainers were all world class performers. Party band "Great Ideas" was wonderful! They are so versatile. From old ballroom favorites to jazz, pop, disco, rock....Singer has wonderful, very powerful voice. Great personality and some cool dance moves. They were playing for hours every day always delivering the same top notch quality from first to last song. Perhaps the best party we've seeing on the cruise ships. Corning glass show. Wow! I've discovered the new absolute favorite activity. It's was interesting to watch, very informative and educational. Some of the pieces made were a bit funny, to say the least, but some were real work of art. Always incredible to watch the process in the hands of professionals. I would love to take a class one day. After they auctioned off few of the pieces and all for good cause. Daily activities and there were so many too choose from. Several dance classes per day, games, sports, classes. Or just relax by the pool where there were always enough lounge chairs. The loan club is very interesting idea. We loved to have grassy area and those cute birds. Some people say it only takes space, I don't agree, I think it adds allot of charm. And if you want to walk barefoot on the grass you can do it even at sea. Ports of call were also pretty interesting. Excursions we took were not bad at all. Complete Istanbul 2 days we did not like too much. It was expensive, we saw couple of temples, grand bazar for an hour, spice bazar for half an hour, rug presentation and a palace. Boat ride was horrible and boring. In other words we did not see Istanbul, just very small area. I would have preferred a ride around the city, less time in temples, no rug show, no boat ride. And some more free time at grand and spice bazars. Smart people were taking local taxi with personal guide for 40 euros per day and got complete overview of the city, the temples and palaces as well as bazars for fraction of the cost. Ephesus excursion was quite interesting. Problem was that there was very hot (around 30) and for 2 hours there was no bathrooms inside Ephesus. With the amount of water you have to drink in such heat it was quite uncomfortable. Amalfi coast and Sorento was quite interesting. We were in the buss for close to 5 hours. Almost 3 hours we drove in the mountains, on very narrow road built for a horse and carriage. Allot of times a bus could get through and cars would have to back off to make way for it. Couple of times we thought that our lives would end right there on the spot when from the sharp turn a local bus would just speed like crazy towards us. I can not imagine the patience of drivers who take that road every day. But Amalfi coast is so beautiful! Was well worth the drive, not sure I want to do this again, perhaps next time a boat to Amalfi would be better idea :-) Would I take sail with the same ship again? Absolutely, providing they change few things to regain the 96% customer satisfaction rating as I am one very unsatisfied customer. Read Less
