It was on our bucket list to go on a cruise. Having chosen the MSC line and wanting to go on a cruise to include the Greek islands MSC seemed a good choice however from admission in them sun at 13.30 in Venice being treated as sheep at the dock was a bad start. No greeting by happy staff. A muddle through check in and on to a shabby ship. Very run down. During our cruise every time we docked and got on board again was a total nightmare. Security staff never smiled or greeted guests with exception of I think SA staff. Total shambles. The rest were surly individuals. In the restaurants the majority of the staff initially appeared untrained and only at the end were getting into their stride. One night at about 23.30 and still having dinner, as the second sitting took a long time to serve, there was a fire alert after a few power failures. The staff all went into panic, not knowing what to do. No control and allowing guests to use the lifts and chaos reigned. Eventually the captain spoke and he too sounded in a panic. We were not able to visit Mykonos due to bad weather but no alternative was given or perhaps even some sort of small compensation for missing out on a port of call. Entertainment was repetitive. Very disappointing trip. Read Less

The worst service we have ever received on more than 50 holidays. Bad food, bad service with no eye contact or a care for the customer and you pay for everything - literally nothing is added for the enjoyment of the customer. We were an inconvenience to the staff. The waiters could not be bothered to offer a service. We queued for half an hour- glad we didn’t get the drinks package-we would still be waiting to get value for money. You literally get sober waiting for another drink. There is a sewage smell throughout the walkway and cabins at times. The waiters are rude, the eating areas are not kept clean. There was blackouts which left the ship feeling hot and stuffy. Two people we were travelling with were feeling sick and there was engine issues which made the boat sway from side to side. We don’t mind rough seas, but this is a Mediterranean cruise. Our kids who normally love kids club, thought the entertainment was not great as they felt hot and cramped in the small space. The quality of air on this cruise is terrible. We felt hypoxic as there is a lack of oxygen. Safe your $ and choose a different cruise line. Unless you enjoy talking for hours on end about how bad a cruise you had. So glad we are getting off today. MSC Masters of the sea??? Perhaps Masters of Bad Service. It would remiss to not add that Natalia at Guest Services was excellent. The only person besides Adi our room attendant that know how to treat a customer. No one else deserves their positions. There are no leadership on this cruise. No team work. How MSC is in business is a mystery. Read Less

We have travelled with MSC many times and have always been satisfied, however, when the service model changed recently it seems so has our opinion. The embarkation process was a complete joke, keeping people outside the terminal for hours in the blazing sun pushing heavy suitcases. From then on it went one way, down! As we had no choice but to pay the service charge we expected the service to be questionable and I am afraid we were right. I found some of the crew to be rude even though I am a gold member.. not that I expect preferential treatment but I do expect to be teated with respect.. This I have to say was not the case as the guy who serviced (ha ha) our cabin went into the wardrobe and moved my clothes. This absolutely was a no go for me so once again I complained. The Manhattan bar on deck 5 constantly served us corked wine with the waiters not sure what that meant, they clearly had not been trained before being placed behind the bar. Filthy tables in the buffet restaurant, food on the floor and old food piled high in the terrace area added to our disgust. The food in the evening was not great, served cold and beef not appearing on many occasions. The waiting time to embark and disembark was so bad and a constant battle that on the last day a fight broke out on deck 5. I have to say I was surprised it had not happened sooner. It was quiet frightening and we were pleased to finally get off the Sinfonia. Would we travel with this company again-absolutes not. This was my 19th cruise, the worst by far and was certainly not to be repeated. Read Less

Embarkation was a horrible experience, 2 hours under the hot sun, no place to sit and no shade. The overall attitude of the staff,RUDE. The cabin had mold in the tub, the sheets were not changed the entire week. The food variety was very limited and almost the same thing all the time, the quality was mediocre. The service, non existent, the tables were always full of dirty dishes and most of the time had to go find someone to clean it so we can seat. Only complementary water, no ice tea or lemon aid like most of the cruise ships. The dining rooms were clean but the selection of the food was very limited. Bar service was the slowest i have ever seen in any cruise ship. The entertainment? well.. they tried, put it this way, there were no WOW moments. All excursion were extremely short, and on the Santorini excursion they first take you to an archiological site, complete waste of time, very boring. DISEMBARKATION BEWARE.. on the itinerary states the ship arrives in Venice at 8:00am, well.. we found out on the last day that it was going to arrive at 10:00am and we would not be off the ship unitl 10:45am Therefore, with this we would off miss out flight back to Florida, so we had to get off at the last port in Ancona and take a train to Venice and incurred all these additional expenses. The staff at Sinfonia were useless in trying to help us with this issue that was their fault. Overall, they have their own schedule as they go along, do not rely on the website for their schedule. We are avid cruisers and have never experience anything like this on other cruise line. (Royal,NCL,Princess) We will Not cruise on MSC again. I have never written a review like this, but i feel the need to make everyone aware and don't waste your money on MSC, Read Less

From the moment we boarded in Venice to the time we left this cruise was an absolute nightmare. Firstly there were incredible lines waiting to board making everyone stand in the sun in above 40 degree temperatures. There were only two people handling this and it was so poorly run. Then we left the port 10 hours later than scheduled which then impacted on the time we spent in Split, Croatia. We spent the grand total of two hours in port!!!!There were four other cruise ships in port at the time and all of the others left at scheduled time. All of the port stops were short and rushed! The disembarkation procedures were appalling and poorly processed. The entertainment on board was pathetic and the activities did not cater for all passengers. The quality of the buffet food was terrible and was continually the same and some of the reception staff were rude and did not know what they were doing. This cruise was supposed to be the relaxing end to a wonderful European holiday but it turned out the be such a disappointment! Will NEVER use this cruise line again! Read Less

The ONLY reason we chose this cruise was because it was going to Mykonos and Santorini. Mykonos got cancelled with very short notice because of high winds ( there was barely a zephyr! ) I am thinking it was because of high docking costs, now saved by MSC but not refunded to the passengers. The only shore excursion I booked was cancelled less than 24 hours because of lack of numbers, then the one I wanted to swap to was full and I had to pay extra for the the one we finally did. So disappointed. Bar staff work their butts off, but the bars are so understaffed you have to wait ages to get served. And unless you are pushy , others who arrived at the bar will get served before you. So frustrating watching barmen re stock fridges and clean glasses and MAKE COFFEE! There should be other staff paid to do that. Buffet food selection was extremely limited compared to other cruise lines I've been on and the one night I did the formal dinner I was so underwhelmed by the food service and quality and quantity I settled for the mediocre buffet every night after that. MSC you have a long way to go to even get close to the quality I have experienced on Royal Caribbean. Read Less

We chose this due to itinerary. That was wonderful. Ship and service was a disaster. We booked Fantasica and adjoining rooms. No adjoining rooms and no drink tickets. Filed a special needs 3 times prior to cruise for distilled water. After numerous requests on board I got a used mineral bottle of maybe water with a post it note saying distill. Who knows what it was. Guest relations probably hit tired of us complaining about drink Tickets and from and the distilled water and gave us some drink tickets. No one enforced hand washing and people were picking up food with hands. Saw a cruiser break a huge glass jar in the buffet and they didn’t remove all the food. Glass shards all over the place. Saw cruise guests drop stack of water glasses on floor and out back for use and not one service person removed them. guest relations were Rude and inefficient. They could have cared less we were unsatisfied. One of the worst issues was adjoining rooms We had a toddler with us so when he went to bed someone had to sit in the dark with him since we couldn’t leave him alone. They said our travel agent messed up But we booked directly with MSc all 3 rooms at the same time. Anytime you complained they said they had to email the United States which of course was 8hrs behind us. Nothing ever resolved. Sometimes u could have coffee and bottled water. Sometimes no. We had to get permission to have Kleenex. My daughters remote had no batteries but they wouldn’t give her any until She gave them the old ones. The list goes on and on Read Less

We booked this cruise at the Nurnberg Germany Airport when my wife found a Bargain Price...08 to 20 Feb 2019 We normally take time and search for reviews but we did not this time, our mistake. I had recently had my 3rd back surgery and was in a walker when we booked so the travel agent asked for wheel chair assistance. When we Arrived no Wheelchairs. My wife inquired and was told we don't do that... but the lady in Genova pointed me to an elevator. At Check in we were told our cabin keys would be in our cabin. and to use our booking papers to purchase drinks until then. it was 0930, and our cabin would be open around13:30 or 14:00, not being able to walk much without pain we settled at a seat near the ships entry point where we were offered a choice of 9 drink packages. some for with meals only drinks, some for non alcoholic and some for alcohol. Prices start at 19, 29, and 39 Euro's a day per person and all in a cabin must purchase the package. the entry level package were good for draft beers and only a few special drinks up to 6.10. Euros. Bottle beer start at 6.50 and required the 29 Euro Price. Name brand alcohol required the 39 Euro package. Ice cream and coffee and water were not free and required a package. Coffee was free at Breakfast. I only met one couple from Canada who bought an Alcohol Package and One who purchased the non Alcohol Pkg, but got a refund after an argument with ship staff when they did the math. They only drink water, which was 2.90 a bottle. We like to cruise and have spent over a 150 days at sea on 4 previous cruise lines. We like to be served as I have trouble standing for long periods and walking for short distances. to My surprise in the dining room Lunch is also a buffet. only dinner is served. Breakfast is a buffet with some options like pancakes and omelets orderable. About 50% of the time the table was set with a coffee spoon or a butter knife. no standards seemed to exist or no one was checking. Tipping was set at 10 Euros a Day per person and automatically charged to your account, as were a donation to UNICEF. At our first meal we were offered Bread. no butter was on the table and it took a full 20 minutes and an argument with the waiter the head waiter his assistant and the head of the ding room to get it fixed. we were initially told it was company policy not to put butter on the table. After I made a scene we had butter the rest of the cruise on every table. The food was sub standard compared to other cruise lines. I actually lost weight. A steak was never offered on the cruise. Lobster was offered twice at a 22 Euro upcharge. my veal had a large bone and every chance they had they smothered your meal with tomato sauce or bad cheese. We had 3 formal nights but many wore T-shirts.. dress codes were not enforced. A couple at our table wanted coffee with desert, They were given drink tickets as part of their cruise and bought us several drinks. Problem was always the emphasis was always on getting the paperwork done and your account billed and signed before they would get you a drink, or coffee. only on the last day of an 11 day cruise did he get his coffee with his desert after I again made a scene as he ate 2 deserts and everyone was leaving dinner when they finally brought his coffee. The staff did Try to meet our requests but they always seemed worried they might get in trouble for doing what we asked them. Training and customer service were not a priority. The Cruise Director was invisible the entire cruise and her only appearance or function I saw was at the show to introduce the heads of each department. If she fell overboard no impact on the ship would be felt. The staff did speak multiple languages. Entertainment was a bright spot as we enjoyed the entertainment crew who would entertain the audience before each show then dance with guests after. On stage it was also great entertainment, except for 4 opera nights. these were opera singers not productions often only a piano player and a singer. Not my cup of tea. Shore excursions were good except for Rome and Crete. In Rome we had a hop on hop off bus tour. We were dropped a long distance from the nearest bus stop with lots of roads and stairs and turns to navigate, near a kilometer. We were told to find a Burger King to use the bathrooms by our tour guide after an hour and a half bus ride from port to Rome. as soon as we were issued our tickets for the Hop on Hop on Bus the guide disappeared. In Crete the bus stopped for an hour while she took some guests for a long walk in heavy rain to look at some old part of a one horse town on Sunday with nothing open. When we were given free time it was 40 minutes and it took 15 to get to the city center from the bus leaving no time to eat and little time to shop before we had to walk back 15 minutes to the bus. The shops were open in the port town and would have been better time spent than in the little town. This was true for most other tours we took too little free time. Often I had to let my wife go alone as I waited because I had difficulty walking, which is no fault of anyone, but know you will walk long distances and have little free time on excursions. They make a point of taking you to souvenir shops they are affiliated with on these excursions. Our Cabin was clean but aged with broken tiles in the shower. shampoo and body wash was in the dispensers. Bring conditioner. Never was a towel folded in the cabin into an animal shape. My wife wanted two single blankets instead of the larger singe blanket and it was provided. No complaints on the cabin or service. Casino I amassed over 5000 points, you get a free cruise for 2 at 9999. I was offered 30% off my next cruise and 250 Euros casino Play. There were no free drinks offered as on other cruise lines at 1500 points in the casino. I will not be back to use this offer. Read Less

I chose this cruise based on the itinerary and time of year. My boyfriend doesn’t enjoy travelling when there’s tons of tourists, and hates the heat, so this trip seemed perfect. We’ve cruised before on Norwegian and Royal Caribbean. After our Norwegian trip, we said it was the worst cruise of our life... we were wrong, it was the msc sinfonia. I’m assuming it was because it was winter, and a smaller ship, we had a lot of movement, all throughout the day and night, I was very seasick. We even had to reroute at one point due to bad weather conditions. But obviously not the cruise lines fault. The first thing to comment on, the typical “washy washy” staff on cruises didn’t exist, just hand sanitizer stations that I rarely saw people use. Sooo, I got sick, then my boyfriend got sick, and by the end of the 10 days, I’d say about 90% of the ship was sick. It was absolutely disgusting. We went on an excursion in Rome and the hour long bus ride was full of everyone coughing. You can only protect yourself from germs when other people do the same, which wasn’t the case on this cruise. Our room was good, larger than previous cruises, but the shower was terrible, I’m a small person, and I just decided to shower with the curtain open because I couldn’t even raise my arms to shampoo without the shower curtain being stuck all the way up my body and arms. Also, even with the curtain closed, it leaked all over the floor. We tried to explain this to our room steward but he barely spoke English and didn’t understand us. The food: I’ll start with saying my boyfriend and i are both chefs. We were obviously disappointed. We choose to cruise because of better food than a resort, but in this case, I’ve had better food in places like Cuba and Mexico. I was counting down the days to get home so I could cook us a real meal. Breakfast was probably the best meal and that’s not saying much. There was no egg station, but we found out later in the outside patio there’s a chef that makes omelettes... but only ham and Swiss. Lunch and dinner was pretty boring, usually two types of pasta, some vegetables and a carvery station(usually pork) And always over cooked. You had to follow staff around to ask for butter because it was never left out in the open. There was an extreme lack of fruit on the cruise, possibly because of the time of year but the only fruit that was constantly there was apples, pears and oranges. We had dinner in the main dining room At the beginning of the cruise. We kept leaving hungry, and by the time dinner was done the buffet was closed. There’s no 24 hour food options at all, not even snacks. So we started eating at the buffet before dinner, until we realized that they serve the exact same food in the buffet. So we stopped going to the main dining room entirely. End of story, if you’re a foodie, do not go on this cruise. Embarkation was seriously confusing. You get into the terminal and they look at your paperwork, say ok good to go and I was like “what were done???” and the guy said yes keep going. We then went onto the ship and security saw our paperwork. A few more steps and another person asked for paperwork, then they shove a camera in your face and take your picture right where you’re standing. Then you’re swarmed by the people selling drink packages. Have a drink here cause it’s the only time you’ll get any juice without having to pay for it. Embarkation was smooth just walk off when they call your colour and cheer that you’re finally getting off the worst cruise of your life. The cruise activities were seriously lacking. Without being able to sunbathe, there’s absolutely nothing to do. I took to watching tv, but there’s only 1 English movie channel, that plays the same stuff over and over, or the news. We played board games but that was probably the most exciting activity they offered. We will not be going back to msc, and as avid travellers, our business will be with Royal Caribbean from now on. This was a chance to break up a Scottish winter, which it did. The weather was great the destinations were superb. The ship was a complete let down . The embarkation some 10hrs late due to problems with the ship. A promised free meal consisted of I roll and 1 hot drink. We had to spend the next day in port while the ship was fixed causing us to miss one destination. The cabin was clean and comfortable. Dining was a nightmare people scrambling for a table and food that at best was ok. The entertainment patchy and the activities were ok if all you wanted to do was learn the samba. Service was surly or unhelpful most of the time , the exception being the cabin staff. In the main service is poor and I would inform reception that you do not want to be charged a daily service charge . The drinks come with a 15% service charge anyway . The ship offers a shuttle bus at most ports however these are expensive and they will not tell you about any allternatves The port of disembarkation had a taxi and partial bus strike which had been on the news for 3 days MSC said they were unaware of it and basically it wasn't there problem .This resulted in elderly and infirm people being dumped at the port with their baggage in the rain and expected to get on with it. If you think MSC might be for you please THINK AGAIN . Read Less

We are seasoned travelers who have experienced Norwegian; Royal Caribbean, Viking River and many other reputable Shipping lines. This Ship is old and the worst service we have ever experienced on any Ocean/ River Cruise Company. You are forced to buy a Drinks Package (Even for Water) and the Wine selection was absolutely pathetic quality and value. AN ABSOLUTE RIP OFF!!! The Restaurant experience was one star rating - Awful food The Buffet was the worst we have ever experienced - It was like eating in a Pig Pen. The food was poorly presented; cold and lifeless. Everyone we sat with at Dinner complained about the Ship, the service and the food. Room Service was pathetic - Breakfast in your Cabin was cold Toast / Croissants and Cold Coffee or Tea. No Hot Breakfast. The staff who were 90% Philippine were poorly trained and had problems with the multitude of languages including English. If you asked for White Wine you were lucky if you got a glass of Rough Red or water. I got sick on the cruise and ended up in the Ships Hospital for treatment by the Doctor's Death from Romania. The were sticking intravenous drips injected with drugs into me for their diagnosis of Viral Pneumonia and I just kept getting worse from their treatment. In Tenerife they arranged for me to see a REAL Doctor at an emergency Hospital with the sole aim of getting me off the ship. The Doctor examined me and ran several tests; Blood Tests and X Rays and told me to stop taking the medications the Ships Doctors were forcing into me as they were the wrong medications for me. He advised me that I did not have Viral Pneumonia just a severe Head Cold and Lower lung infection and prescribed the correct antibiotics and support medications and he advised the Ships Doctors that I was fit to continue our journey. The MSC Sinfonia Doctor's Death were treating me with the incorrect medications and they made me pay in excess of $2,000 for their inexperienced and incorrect diagnosis / treatment. My wife and I were verbally abused by the Ships Doctor when we questioned why we were being off loaded in Tenerife and the associated costs without any prior consultation with us. To top it off several excursions were cancelled and we arrived into Disembarkation Port "Barcelona" 10 hours late and had to pay for another set of airfares to London and it has taken 2 x months to get a credit payment - the Customer Service Departments are rude and abrupt with customers. Recently returned from ten days on board this ship for Christmas around the Med. This was by far the worse ship and the worse cruise we have ever been on. This was our second MSC cruise and what a total letdown. Firstly I’ll start by saying the ship was at least clean. After that the positives end unfortunately. It’s a very basic ship with extremely limited options in regards to food, drink and entertainment. So if you one of these people that enjoy poor food poor entertainment and very poor service you will love this ship. The buffet is way too small for the size of the ship and most days there are que outside at peak times. They have tried to increase the size of the seating area by offering seats on the deck in a patio heater style seating area. This is ok in summer but not in winter and eating food off plastic plates under patio heaters isn’t my idea of fun.The choice of food at The buffet was “same old” most days and again very basic. The restaurant was a slightly better environment but being forced to sit with people even after asking to be moved three times again isn’t my idea of fun.Food was again poor. Moving onto entertainment (or lack of). There are 5 bars in total with only the Irish pub offering anything in the way of entertainment before 11pm.This consists of an Italian guitar player playing a very limited song book in very limited English. He also has to stop playing every half hour or so because they could “hear him in the theatre “ even though we could never hear the theatre. It all got very frustrating leaving people sat there with no music and zero entertainment. As for the other bars, well the Budda bar was shut most times when we walked through although we did get a drink there one night and they had a guy playing piano for a while. The main bar (Manhattan) is a strange concept. Yoga and stretch classes are the main entertainment every night before dinner. Yes you did read that right!!! The musical duo who were supposed to start at 6pm usually rolled up bout 6.15 and played a couple of iffy Spanish/Italian/French songs. The “main” entertainment then began around 11pm in this bar. Ranging from a few game show things to some music. Our main highlights consisted of seeing how long it took to get served every night in each bar. This ranged from a few mins to 39 mins which was the longest it took.We ended up changing their tile from waiters to sales prevention staff because they would do everything they could NOT to serve you. This leads me onto their “all inclusive” drinks packages. If you buy one before getting on board you are offered to “upgrade” which sounded great because we only had draught beer and wine package we took up their offer.103 euros per person for the ten days.Me being a Strongbow drinker I was happy with that. Unfortunately after day 3 they ran out of Strongbow and by day 5 still had none ( even though we had stops every day bar one) So when I decided to complain feeling I had been short changed the bar manager informed me the ship was at full capacity with Strongbow (all very confusing) still the sales prevention staff kept telling me they had none. Then to my delight I was informed they had draught Strongbow in one bar. What a blatant lie,it was some sort of cider in a box but most certainly NOT Strongbow!!!! I could go on about various other faults and cost cutting areas but I think you get the picture. My advice is avoid this ship even if the price seems quite good ( we made that mistake) Read Less

First of all the positives. We had a lovely cabin, very clean and spacious. The staff were very helpful on the whole and did try their best. The bar areas were lovely as was the theatre. The entertainment in the theatre pretty average. The entertainment team were also very good at what they did. However the negatives of this ship outweigh the positives and for all of the following reasons we wont cruise with Msc again. We are currently on day four of our cruise and despite the lovely destinations We'll be happy to get off. The problem started when we got on. Also We had taken the all inclusive package for drinks, but discovered that this only included one type of white wine and one lager. We found this odd as the prices on the menu were mainly the same. As this is what we drink, and both were ghastly, we upgraded to the deluxe package which cost an extra 24 euros each per day which entitled us to premium drinks. However most of the bars only had the one lager hubby hates so we either had to go looking for the kind he likes or wait on it being delivered. { this was where the staff were great and went for it for us}. We did complain and they said they would stock all the bars with the premium lagers but it never happened. Now I love trying different food and Im not hard to please but I found the dining experiences awful. First of all a lot of the hand sanitizers were empty. ugh. is all i can say. The buffet restaurant was just awful. Too many people, not enough space and limited choice. Also lots of tables not being cleared quick enough to allow others to use them. Everyone jostling to get in. Just not big enough to accommodate the volume of people and obviously under staffed. Again all staff were doing their best. The burger area was good though but who wants burgers every day ?? Our first experience of the ahem "fine dining " was dire. Again obviously not enough staff and the wait was far too long. Certainly not in the same category as other cruise lines. However again we complained and they couldnt do enough for us on subsequent nights. But I really felt uncomfortable at this as I never complain and am usually fairly easily pleased but it really was awful. My favourite part of a cruise is the dining experiences but this really didnt do it for me. You could see the poor waiters run off their feet trying to cope. So MSC you really need to get youre house in order. For the charges of this cruise I expected better. This whole experience just wasnt great. We will in future stick to other cruise lines which we know are good Read Less

Let me start by saying that the staff on the Sifonia was amazing. Sadly, they all were miserable and ready for their "sentence" to end. We sailed from Venice to Split, Croatia, to Santorini, Mykonos another stop in Italy and back to Venice. The cruise ship and MSC as a whole was a tragic disgrace and I would NEVER ever recommend it to anyone. - Horrible coordination & process - Boat was VERY dated - Dining experience was mediocre at best - Service for pool bar was extremely slow I am a world traveler and spent about $4k for this cruise alone, plus the $5k in airfare. It was, by far the worst vacation I have every been on. The passengers on the boat were very rude. One of our party walked into the bathroom on the pool deck to see 2 ladies waxing their bikinis. Also, when I went to check out the night club at 12:30 am, I saw a 6 year old boy dancing in the middle of the dance floor. I have pictures to prove this. Read Less

Positives: - Tri our dinner server at Galleon restaurant was amazing, as well as Robin who served us our breakfast and lunch. Bruna, the waitress at the Buddha bar also was great, and all house keeping services were amazing. Negatives: - improvement needed on customer service - bar staff in particular with positivity and attitude especially at the pool bar. Also ignoring customers is not okay and females in particular get ignored. There was limited interaction with the bar staff and guests. - Quality of the food is very average standard - compared to other cruise liners it is below average. - Poor allocation of staff on bars, ice cream bar etc. - these are all major points of interactions during peak times (days at sea) and there is not enough staff on these areas. Review the efficiency of the bar as the current system is inefficient and the bar staff who should be focusing on making drinks are focusing on taking orders - this should be the bar servers taking the orders and the staff making the drinks. - Management of the restaurant staff were yelling at other members of staff, which should not be happening in front of guests. - Plates at the buffet are always dirty and seem they aren’t washed properly. There were also dirty cups served to people at the bar. - Entertainment is no where near up to scratch- the dancers were absolutely shocking (except for the special entertainment such as the acrobatics/silks and the ballroom dancers were incredible). The standard of dancers is below average and many people actually walked out of the show. Choreography of dance routines is boring and not up to cruise line standards. Costumes are also not appropriate for a family friendly boat and the ill fitting costumes look unprofessional. This was the biggest disappointment of the entire cruise and a major point that needs to be fixed in the future. - Children are not allowed in the casino and no one is monitoring this. - Very disappointed in the excursions - waiting on the bus for people to arrive back over half an hour after the time we were told is not okay and they should be left to find an alternate way back to the boat. Doing a 5 hour tour which turns into a 7 and a half hour tour not allowing us to see the rest of our locations is not okay. - Another recommendation would be to have an ironing station to be able to do your own ironing as this is available on other cruises. - Pool sizes are not adequate for a Mediterranean cruise which has over 2000 customers - they are way to small - especially considering we had 2 days at sea and everyone on the boat sat around the pool. - Compared to other cruise lines, the prices of the day spa are ridiculously expensive. - Need more employees like the employee of the month, he was full of energy and fun and no other staff seem to be happy on the boat and they look stressed. - Bars opening hours are very limited and only the pool bar was constantly open, and nothing else was. This was such a disappointment! From the moment we arrived on this ship. Although excited to meet our friends and enjoy a 50th, a 40th and a 16th birthday celebration amid visit peaches were had never been, we were nothing but disappointed and upset by what went on. This was the first cruise for half of our group and the 6th or 7th for the other half, although all first time customers of MSC. Needless to say I will not go on another cruise again as it confirmed my fears, although those that had cruised with other companies told us not to be put off by the worst cruise they had ever been on. Although we booked a Fantastica package that was meant to enable us all to eat together, they separated the party according to room type... this included kids and parents not beeing able to eat together....that took 2 nights to fix. It took so long to get drinks from any bar even though on many occasions there were ample staff to deal with the orders but they stood around chatting. Unless you were pushing your way and shoving your card in their faces like many of the rude customers did, you didn't get served. The buffet restaurant was like a 1 star cafe on the boxing day sales. There is a 10euro service charge per person per day they forget to tell you the cost of, which apparently is to go to the staff as tips so we didn't do it individually, yet anyone would tell you they never got it it went to MSC....not that there were many staff we would have tipped anyway as the service was so terrible. Except for the man looking after our room and the waiter at dinner who looked terrified of making any mistakes.....we did tip them as their service was awesome. The majority of patrons were rude and pushy not that MSC can control who gets on their ship. To disembark for tours was unorganized chaos and our scheduled disembarkcation at the end of the cruise was over 1 hour past our scheduled time. Can't describe how's disillusioned and disapointed we are asked wish we had of dpent our hard earned money experiencing beautiful countries on our own. Dont waste your money! Read Less

We don’t even know where to start....This was the worst cruise we have ever been on, from the ship to the service. So before We post We figured we would give you a chance to acknowledge and respond. The only reason it is taking me so long to write this is because we actually just returned from Europe and I was not going to do this on my vacation after being through the 7 days on your ship. To start you were never able to check in online had to take the time to call and speak to someone as your website was having issues. We then had to have our travel agent reach out to even get the documents emailed to us the day before the cruise . We also were never given the proper experience and room key we had paid for the fantastica package, thinking it would be an easy fix as I am in the hotel industry it actually became a grueling experience, we basically were told they were too busy to handle it on the first day and that I would be refunded for any drinks I bought once it was confirmed with the home-office, to our disbelief we had to wait for the home office to respond because no one works on the weekends at corporate offices. We then had to reach out to the travel agent from the ship again who also reached out to your corporate office and confirmed that we paid for the Fantastica experience. We were astonished to find out that there was not a person on the cruise ship in a management position to actually fix this. So fo the next two days I paid for drinks. At every bar we went to had a problem and asked me for my card then told me nothing was changed in the system. Finally they gave me the drink tickets but refused to change my card to state the package I don’t understand why a new card cannot be printed. Guest services then put a sticker on my card that said EXP 2, well that turned out to be a joke because all the bartenders laughed and said all that means is expired…Not to mention how unfriendly the servers were with an exception of 1 or 2 . We also never had the option to upgrade because it was not in properly when we checked in nor did we ever get anything else that came with the package besides drink tickets like the souvenir photo. When it came time to comp the drinks that many of your staff said would happen at guest relations it was also was an arduous deal, they tried to say that the drinks that we had were not covered by the drink tickets we had purchased but yet no one told us we had to order certain drinks, they promised that whatever we paid would be refunded, period. It wasn’t until the fourth day that we finally spoke to a manager. Although some of the guest relation girls were very kind and Would call and would update us none of them actually did anything about the situation other than being nice. Living in South Florida We have taken many cruises and have never waited 30 minutes for a drink, Especially on a day at sea ,to have only 2 Bartenders working the pool/grill area is Unfathomable. Never once did a server approach us . This was supposed to be a dream trip for a month starting with the cruise .... We chose MSC because so many people said book an Italian line,” it will be great” especially since I am Italian and my husband speaks it plus 4 other language’s . We switched from the Poesia and actually spent MORE money for Sinfonia because of the itinerary, What a mistake that was! We knew this ship was older but would assume it was updated to today’s standards at the very least. It was awful!!!!! So old and smelly, this ship should be scrapped or completely renovated. Then there was dinner... we barely went to the formal dinners, one night we were running late so we called, a woman said come anyway, no problem. We got there and a very rude host told us no even though they were still serving. The night of the captains photo op we showed up dressed within the 30 minute time frame and he was gone 20 minutes early . We were also shocked to find out there was only one buffet when the entire ship to eat other than the formal dining the fact that there was only one buffet and it actually closed at times during the day is something we never experienced on a cruise ship. The quality of the food was so below industry standard and snacks had mostly bread at all times and nothing in between it… We certainly expected much more especially from an Italian line. We have never ever written a review letter like this that had not one positive thing, It truly was disappointing right up to the end I was asked to fill out a form if I wanted to be contacted for my opinion and that at disembarking they would announce a winner of a free cruise, well guess what? That never happened and I confirmed and verified including going to guest relations and asking before I got off the ship if they were going to do it and they said no. We never even received the email after I did fill out the paper asking us for our feedback. I actually had started a list of people so you would know exactly who is rude and the few that went above and beyond I finally stop wasting my time as a list got ridiculously long. There were two people that were super nice at your guest relations but after seeing at the very end how things continued to happen they were not helpful at all. So this brings me to the two worst part’s of this cruise at the end. **After leaving and thinking I left my brand new pro MacBook , We soon realized it was stolen after some investigating. We have called so many times, I cannot even tell you how many times we spoke to your corporate office. We were assured it would be tagged and stored and we would get a call, that has not happened and as you know it is a month later. I woman named Jasmine who works for you actually filled out the lost and found form for us immediately after the cruise. As if all of this wasn’t enough and this Cruise was not a nightmare except for the ports. ***To add insult to injury I started getting messages from one of your male employees who strictly states he works for you and saw my husband and I on the ship. He proceeds to message me on Facebook sexual comments please know I certainly have archived this. What’s Even stranger is that there were a few of your employees that I did not mine actually Facebook Ing me but this particular mail I don’t not even know who he is. My husband is very upset and he’s also talking about us being an interracial couple..... I honestly just don’t even know what else to say again like I said I’ve been in this industry my entire life from hotels to restaurant ownership and never experienced such a negative experience on a cruise ship. The bartenders and people working there supposed to be fun and get you to buy drinks not rude and take forever to deliver. It seems to us that you need to give a little more power on the ship for managers to get answers not waiting for corporate office on a weekend. They should be able to handle a situation right then and there for the amount of money being paid for to cruise. Maybe a little better training would also help. As I write this my husband is actually on the phone on hold with your cruise line again trying to get answers. This was all so very wrong on so many levels! Read Less

Don’t do it! Service terrible msc staff rude itinerary was not great spent 2.5 days at sea and did Santorini and Mykonos in the same day the intinerary made out otherwise.. Food options poor and far better tasting in hospital.. Skin infection caused by spa so stay away from that. Found my bag late on day of arrival 200 metres from room in middle of walkway. Paid more on board for upgrading package and wouldn’t match what the online price was as we tried but there system was down and couldn’t upgrade, apparently that’s our fault.. Speaking of upgrades the premium beer is not available on level 6!?? Strange as the bars and casino are all on that level! Rort! Every shore excursion we did 1/4 of the cost then onboard, I would have been happy to pay if the cruise was decent enough, got to the point I wouldn’t give MSc another cent. The only great thing about this trip is we get of tomorrow! Any Msc management read this come see me in room 1066 Stay away from MSC !!!! Read Less

The cruise schedule only mention one day at sea, instead they are two. The schedule mentions 2 days at Mykonos and that a great lie. The Santorini visit is just 4 hours in the morning and then the ship moves to Mykonos from 8:00pm to 3:00am, then spend a second day at sea in a ship that the only entertainment is a verity small casino, a antique small pool. Just 4 bartenders for Deck 11 ( pool and sun deck) for all the passengers, spect 20 minutes for a beer or drink. The Buffet food quality is the same as Golden Corral but cold. The restaurant serves the same as the buffet but in small quantity. Food quality is the worst compare to: Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Carnival... The food and beverage personal doesn’t care about the customers that’s do the minimum required. Expect all excursion to start 1 hour late, so you will get less for your money. Final recommendation spend your money on any othe cruise line. This was a 12 member family vacation, as a gift From the Grandfather and was extremely disappointed. Read Less

MSC SINFONIA CRUISE ITINERARY – DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA TO VENICE – 20 APRIL 2018 – 14 MAY 2018 GOOD COMMENTS 1. The whole of the ship was always clean and tidy 2. Medical Centre – Unfortunately I had to attend the medical centre. The consultation by the doctor was excellent and thorough. The Medical Centre was well organised and very busy. (It was difficult to find as we followed the signs and then suddenly they stopped so it took some time to find which isn’t ideal when feeling ill). 3. Cabin Attendant – I Ketut Suastika did an excellent job. Waiter in the main dining room in the evening – Warnaya looked after us well despite having very little help when his assistant left the ship in Mauritius (our second stop) as he was at the end of his contract. No one replaced him. With having no help to serve the food it was constantly cold including the plates the food was served on. English breakfast in the main dining room was constantly cold every morning. After 6 days we spoke to the Maitre D’ (Luigi),see below. He arranged for the Head Waiter, Adrian, to take my order each morning and ensure it was hot when served. They both did an excellent job following my complaint. 4. A leaky sprinkler in the cabin caused problems for a few days but was dealt with promptly and caused us no hassle as they worked on it when we were out of the cabin. BAD COMMENTS 1. As mentioned above after complaining about the food in the main restaurant being cold Luigi took this complaint over and dealt with it. At the beginning of the cruise I sent 3 evening meals back to the kitchen. Food was placed on cold plates so when served the food was too cold to eat. Our initial complaint was made to Reception on Sunday, 22 April, when we were assured the matter would be dealt with and we would be kept informed. When the situation remained the same and we had had no information, we went back to Reception on Thursday, 26 April. It was then that the receptionist called Luigi and he took our concerns over. 2. Self Service Restaurant – Deck 11 – Awful choice of hot food at lunchtime – mainly stews (these were cold). After 20 plus cruises including MSC, Celebrity, Thomson, Princess, Royal Caribbean, NCL the Sinfonia ship is the worse self-service restaurant for choice and quality of food. The only positive comment I could make is that the cold meat, salad and bread was enjoyable at lunchtime along with the desserts, although again there the choice was very limited. 3. We found the hand sanitiser machines empty regularly. These should be a priority to avoid illness. This was reported to Reception on 22 April, they said they were aware of the situation, but nothing changed during the cruise. 4. Entertainment – The entertainment was no comparison to other ships. Poor male singer. The Cruise Director was conspicuous by his absence – we never saw him around the ship like you do on other cruise lines. The shows seen on other cruise lines are very professional but the shows here (especially the singing and dancing shows) were very poor in comparison. 5. Having mentioned previously we have been on 4 MSC cruises over the years and also with other companies but feel Sinfonia is the worst managed ship out of them all. There was an attitude which was at times all too apparent – we wondered at times if crew were being trained on this long cruise and so were not working towards the level of service we have come to expect on our previous cruises. Quite frankly some staff did not seem interested. For example, newspapers were available on board. We ordered one to be collected from reception at 8-45am. When we went to collect it at 9-30am it had not been printed. We were asked to go back in an hour. It was 2pm when we returned, and it had still not been printed. We eventually got it at 3pm, six and a half hours late after three visits to Reception. 6. People arriving back from the Petra trip which was organised by the ship missed their first-sitting slot in the main restaurant so therefore we had to eat our evening meal in the Self Service Restaurant only to find one half of the self service restaurant had been closed off and not in use. There was nowhere for people to sit to have their meal, this situation should have been anticipated. 7. The last 2 evenings of the cruise the bars had no stock of tonic. The last night of the cruise the bars had no stock of Bitter Lemon, Cider, Coke or Sprite. Obviously not enough had been ordered. 8. The “Daily Program” did not contain enough information compared to other cruise lines. It was virtually the same every day. 9. We had 11 days at sea and were looking forward to having 3 full days in Katakolon, Kotor and Split to find these stops were for half days only. This was very disappointing but no doubt due to half days in port being cheaper as opposed to a full day costing more. The itinerary did specify this but it was still a big disappointment. As previously stated this was our fourth cruise with MSC. Whilst we could not say that it is our favourite cruise line, we have never encountered problems such as these before. Read Less

We chose this to celebrate a 60th birthday. We all had to save for a long time so so excited as I had been on board before and loved the whole experience. However unbeknown to us the Op die Water took over there was no entertainment at all in evenings for the English and we were ready to get dressed up every night booked the early dinner so we could go to all the shows etc. so disappointing and I had encouraged all the girls to do the cruise and it was nothing like we were expecting. The service and food was fantastic but sadly not worth all the money we had saved without the entertainment We May as well have booked into a hotel Even the music on the deck was in Afrikaans we had to ask them to please play some English music which did but not for long. Unfortunately we weren’t able to go the island due to big swells. I flew in from the UK and two other girls flew in from Zimbabwe one from Pretoria and the other from Scottburgh. Read Less

We chose this cruise as we thought it would be a great family holiday. Right from the begining of booking the cruise we were asked to change our date as the cruise we requested had been booked out by a company. Once we chose another date, we could not get a cabin for a family of 4 & were asked if we would have 2 seperate rooms which we declined. After taking it to the MD we got a room for the 4 of us! The service was shocking, staff very rude & unhelpful. The Embarkation & parking was a nightmare, once on board it was chaos not knowing what to do or where to go with staff shouting out orders. The kids clubs & activities were very badly organised & often left unattended. Online there was not age limit on Play Station yet when we got there we were told my son was not allowed as he is only 10, a huge dissapointment & false adveritising! The dinning staff & cabin stewards were the most helpful & friendliest! Food was not good standard as we got food poisoning!!! Read Less

I've been on the cruise in 2011, which was really good. I thought I will do it again, but was highly disappointed. The no care attitude of the crew, their rudeness, arrogance and incompetency made me to regret that I've ever booked the cruise in the first place. Herewith some of the incidents: a. When I received my confirmation booking, I saw that we were booked for the second dinner seating, despite having indicated that I want the first dinner seating. I've send an e-mail to this extend and have received an e-mail back to confirm that the seating was changed to the first seating. On arrival on the ship, when I was issued with my cruise card, it reflected second dinner seating. I brought this to the attention of the person who issued the card and I have even shown him the e-mail that I received in question. The person just shrugged me off, visibly irritated with me and told me that I need to discuss the matter with the restaurant manager. That was completely unacceptable and I do object to how I was treated. Fortunately, the restaurant manager assisted me after explaining my situation to him. b. When I arrived on the ship, I completed the excursion form and placed it on the box at the excursion office. (I must add that, at that time, no one was manning the excursion desk, which in itself is unacceptable, in particular if one has questions). I later on went to the desk to to confirm if my form has been received and that I have some questions to ask. At first, the lady behind the desk told me that they have not received anything. I was astounded by this fact and it was only when another person came to the desk that it was confirmed that they have indeed received my form. The question that I've asked them about the excursion to the Inhaca mainland, could not be answered satisfactorily. (I've asked them who will meet us at the mainland). c. The safety drill was a washed down affair compared to my 2011 cruise. The crew never explained how the rescue boats will be used and how the passengers should enter these. Other first time passengers thought that they must jump into the sea. This clearly speaks of an unwillingness to do the proper and right thing by the crew. Their incompetency was astounding. d. Despite having received Number 2 Excursion tickets for the boats to take us to the beaches (both at Portuguese Island and Pomene), the crew did a bad job in controlling the passengers that were to embark. Instead of having seperate ques for the different embarking tickets, there was only one que. The result that was that all ticket holders stood in the que, some of them blocking the access due to the fact that they tried to get ahead. The crew did a dismal job of ensuring that this does not happen and clearly speaks of incompetency. e. On the launch boats itself, no instruction was given from a safety perspective. Once arrived at the Portuguese Island and Pomene, no indication/marking/sign indicated to where one needs to report on the beach for the chosen excursion. We had to stand in a que to wait to speak to an arrogant crew member at the desk just to be told to wait - "they will call us" - although the time for the excursion was written on the excursion ticket. No one cared that we were waiting much longer than indicated. The MSC staff left it to the us (the passengers) to ask the locals if they are the ones for a particular excursion. At Pomene, after we all climbed in one of the MSC rubber ducks, the same incompetent and arrogant MSC cruise came to us and told us that the passengers who booked the estuary excursion need to get of the boat, since there was a mixed up. This is totally unacceptable and speaks of incompetency, the likes of which I have never encountered before. f. When leaving the Pomene beach to go back to the ship, a long que was forming. To my astonishment, passengers were once again jumping the que and the crew did nothing to stop them. This again speaks of poor management and don't care attitude from the crew. Control should have been done more effectively (ie by putting que ropes up and guiding the passengers to que within the ropes and/or issueing them with numbered tickets). At the point of boat embarkation, the first crew member told us to go through. As we moved towards the launch boat, another crew member told us to stop (apparently the boat was full) and showed us to the waiting area. The first crew member then came running from the back and told us not to sit, telling us that we are confusing the set up. I angrily responded that the crew members need to make up their minds, and that they are buggering us around. The captain himself them told me that they are here to do their jobs. I told him I'm not here to be messed around by an incompetent and arrogant crew. g. The reason for the long que at Pomeno was that one of the launch boats had mechanical problems and there was only three (instead of four) in use to ferry the passengers. Given a huge company like MSC, the fact that one of the launch boats were out of commission is unacceptable and the rubber ducks should have been used to fill in for the the launch boat. This again speaks of an unwillingness of the crew to care for the passengers and is evident of a lack of proper planning and organising. h. I went to the cruise desk with my wife to find out about the 2020 cruise to Mauritius. The lady behind the desk was very unhelpful and rude. She continued to type on her computer and did not even bother to stand up and look one in the face. She rudely told us to go to the website. i. Another complain was that they left only one suitcase tag in our cabin for disembarkation. (With two people in the cabin, I don't know who decided that only one by suitcase tag will suffice). I phoned reception and they told me that I need to go to the desk to collect another tag. This is totally absurd - at that point the que at Reception was very long (mainly due to people wanting to settle their accounts). I had to stand in the que for more than 30 minutes just to get another tag. This is just another example of the "Don't care attitude of the crew and their inability to proper plan and organize. It would have been simple to put a desk to one side with the different tags at a point where passengers could collect them from. j. When visiting one of the public toilets, there were no toilet rolls. This just proofs that the crew does not care. k. Lastly, I was approached by one of the crew members that offered me vouchers for drinks, etc. The price given to me was $50 for 18 tickets. Never was it said that a service fee of $7.50 will be added. I only realized this when I received my account. This is of very poor taste form MSC. They should have alerted passengers to this charge at the initial stage. Also, the fact that I was charged twice with $1.50 for Unicef donation, is a slap in my face and speaks of the arrogance of MSC. Surely, they should have asked my permission first Read Less

It was our first cruise, not only for us as a couple, but for us as a family. Unfortunately, the first, and the last... I will start with the good first... The servers in the Galeone Dining facility was fabulous! Always had a smile and a joke for the kids, probably the highlight of our trip. We visited the kiddies entertainment/play areas. At first we were told that we would have to separate our children as they are 5 and almost 3 (1 week away). After much deliberation we were then told that they were closing at 15h30 and had to leave. The next day we went back and were told that it was time for parents to stay with the kids - whats the use? We were also refused access at the older facility - ages being 7 and up... Not once did our kids leave our side, but it was probably for the best. My 5 year old and I also had terrible motion sickness on the friday and went past the medical centre on the saturday morning, only to be told that it was $95 consultation excluding the injections before they even looked at us - per person! That might fly for overseas travelers but for South Africans thats just ridiculous. And just fyi, the motion sickness bags that you provided, was all finished and no where to be found by the Saturday morning. We only got on the ship on Friday? As for the embarkation, we stood in the queue for almost 3 hours - have you tried to keep children standing quietly for 3 hours? Some people with kids were called forward, whilst others (without children and not elderly) just didnt bother to stand in the last queue - SHOCKING. The staff just let them walk by, and there we stood, like sheep, trying to keep tired, cold, hungry children at bay.... All in all I must say this was probably once of the worst experiences I have ever gone through with my family, and now that its done, can tell you we will never do it again. Bet you this review wont see the light of day or even get a response! Read Less
