We did lots of research and compared prices between NCL, Royal Caribbean... MSC offered the lowest in price. the same amount of money we can get a balcony room instead a inside room with other company. so we went ahead booked with MSC Sinfonia. we arrived Venice by train at 11:30am . about 10 minutes walk and found the people mover station. it took us at least 20 minutes stand in line to buy ticket for 5 minutes train ride.. got off the train. we walked 15 minutes to arrived the embarkation area. ( I think there free shuttle bus available, but the bus stop is at a open area, that means you have stand under the sun for unknown time for the bus to arrive. so almost all people rather to just walk.) embarkation line wasn't too bad at the time. it took about 30 minutes. and finally we enter the ship at around 2 pm. our balcony state room is pretty small. I think the balcony room interior size is the same of the inside rooms, except you have a small balcony. room was dated but looks clean. bath towel and pool towel are very old and rough, bedding and pillow was OK. carpets are very old and no way you will feel clean to walk without slipper... Dinner, food at restaurant was in very nice presentation. but nothing taste good. we can't finish our plate every night although its very small portion. buffet has more food to choice. but always too busy and short handed. breakfast serve same kinds of tasteless food every morning. free coffee taste really bad, but if you pay to order cappuccino it will take very long time. and they always make you share table with different groups people every morning... they have total 5 night shows out of 7 nights. the shows are the part we enjoyed the most. we have to seen many Vegas show. I would say their show can compare with that. we call it big show in a small stage... we have 2 sea days, the sea day after we visit Mykonos is 36 hours long on sea. which is too long and too boring. no activates that we enjoy to do. no good food or snacks during the sea day...we didn't join any excursions, their overpriced and the ports that we are going are very easy to go around, just need to do so research and you can save hundreds of dollars.... Split, as soon as you walk out the port, you will see public flex bus station, we got bus tickets cost $10 for 3 peoples, 30 minutes bus ride to Trogir. spent 2 hours there and had a very nice seafood lunch. and other bus ride back to split. walk around the downtown area. the tourist area is very close to the port. only 15 minutes walk to the ship... next port Santorini, disembarkation will be carried out by tender boat form ship to the shore. most people joined excursion since very short time (7 hours) at this port. I agreed that if you want to see more or if you move slower due to bringing kids or seniors. then you should join excursions. but you have to book a little earlier because they can be sold out. another advantage joining excursions is you will have priority to get out the ship to start your tour early. For those whose doesn't want to join tours like us.. pick up your tender boat ticket as early as you can, they start passing tender boat ticket at 8 Am on the sea day before you arrived Santorini. my husband set up alarm clock and we got group 4 ticket. in the morning, the ship arrived at 7 AM. we were the first cruise ship arrived Santorini. we are schedule to leave the ship at 8:30 with group 4 ticket. people who joined excursions are start leaving at 7:15. we didn't get to the tender boat until 9:15am. and we arrived the short at 9:30. as soon as you arrived the short. you will have 3 transportation options to see the town. the cable car. donkey, speedboat to oia. we paid 15 eu per person took speedboat to oia. this was also including return bus to downtown fira town. we arrived oia at before 10 am. walk around, spent 2 hours there. by 11:30, we saw thousands of people with short excursions started to walk into Oia. that's also because many other cruise ship are arrived. we catch the 12 pm bus to fira. spent about 1 hour there, then took cable car back to the shore where we catch the tender boat back to the cruise. the last tender boat to the ship is 2 pm. so it was very limited time to spent at the place. but its was good enough to see around... Mykonos, many people complaints we arrived at night time. this is a party city where has lots of shops, bars, restaurants open until late night, after a few busy walking in hot days, we were very appreciated to have nice cool night out, not much to see here. but very relax...after Mykonos, the sea day was very long and very boring.... 36 hours on sea. ..Dubrovinik, the ship offered 13 eu per person round trip shuttle bus to old town, about 15 minutes ride. if your group has 3 to 4 peoples, it will be cheaper taking taxi which plenty of them waiting at the port.... Ancona, we just walk around the town and walked about 30 minutes to see the beach. nice to see a small town in Italy. Disembarkation day at Venice, too early to get force out the ship, we have to wake up at 6:30 in the morning to be able to leave the ship at the scheduled time. conclusion, we didn't pay premium price to the cruise, so of course not everything upscale. we get to see the places that we want to see. hope this review help you design your vacations. We have just came back from this cruise and I must say the experience there was really disappointing. -MYKONOS STOP CANCELLED: Mykonos stop was last minute cancelled because “engine” issues. Apparently this stop is often cancelled and the real reason for that the Mykonos port is very expensive. The passangers in general were very angry for this fact and even more when nobody was able to handle our complaints in a professional way (including the Captain). -UNFRIENDLY SERVICE: excluding 2 waiters and the cleaning lady, all the staff (reception, bars, casino, restaurants, security) was really rude and no willingness to help or to be nice. -SLOW SERVICE AT THE BAR: We purchased the “all included drinks pack” and it was really hard to get our drinks. Some days we wait more than 40 min for a beer on the swimming pool... too many passengers for the infrastructure by far. I was few years ago in a Costa cruise and I cannot recall any of the issues mentioned above. Bad experience with the MSC brand. Never again... Read Less

First of all the positives. We had a lovely cabin, very clean and spacious. The staff were very helpful on the whole and did try their best. The bar areas were lovely as was the theatre. The entertainment in the theatre pretty average. The entertainment team were also very good at what they did. However the negatives of this ship outweigh the positives and for all of the following reasons we wont cruise with Msc again. We are currently on day four of our cruise and despite the lovely destinations We'll be happy to get off. The problem started when we got on. Also We had taken the all inclusive package for drinks, but discovered that this only included one type of white wine and one lager. We found this odd as the prices on the menu were mainly the same. As this is what we drink, and both were ghastly, we upgraded to the deluxe package which cost an extra 24 euros each per day which entitled us to premium drinks. However most of the bars only had the one lager hubby hates so we either had to go looking for the kind he likes or wait on it being delivered. { this was where the staff were great and went for it for us}. We did complain and they said they would stock all the bars with the premium lagers but it never happened. Now I love trying different food and Im not hard to please but I found the dining experiences awful. First of all a lot of the hand sanitizers were empty. ugh. is all i can say. The buffet restaurant was just awful. Too many people, not enough space and limited choice. Also lots of tables not being cleared quick enough to allow others to use them. Everyone jostling to get in. Just not big enough to accommodate the volume of people and obviously under staffed. Again all staff were doing their best. The burger area was good though but who wants burgers every day ?? Our first experience of the ahem "fine dining " was dire. Again obviously not enough staff and the wait was far too long. Certainly not in the same category as other cruise lines. However again we complained and they couldnt do enough for us on subsequent nights. But I really felt uncomfortable at this as I never complain and am usually fairly easily pleased but it really was awful. My favourite part of a cruise is the dining experiences but this really didnt do it for me. You could see the poor waiters run off their feet trying to cope. So MSC you really need to get youre house in order. For the charges of this cruise I expected better. This whole experience just wasnt great. We will in future stick to other cruise lines which we know are good Read Less

Let me start by saying that the staff on the Sifonia was amazing. Sadly, they all were miserable and ready for their "sentence" to end. We sailed from Venice to Split, Croatia, to Santorini, Mykonos another stop in Italy and back to Venice. The cruise ship and MSC as a whole was a tragic disgrace and I would NEVER ever recommend it to anyone. - Horrible coordination & process - Boat was VERY dated - Dining experience was mediocre at best - Service for pool bar was extremely slow I am a world traveler and spent about $4k for this cruise alone, plus the $5k in airfare. It was, by far the worst vacation I have every been on. The passengers on the boat were very rude. One of our party walked into the bathroom on the pool deck to see 2 ladies waxing their bikinis. Also, when I went to check out the night club at 12:30 am, I saw a 6 year old boy dancing in the middle of the dance floor. I have pictures to prove this. Read Less

This is our experience on the MSC Sinfonia. We would not recommend this to anyone and we sent them this back in July and we didn't event get a reply! I repeat DO NOT travel with MSC. Positives: - Tri our dinner server at Galleon restaurant was amazing, as well as Robin who served us our breakfast and lunch. Bruna, the waitress at the Buddha bar also was great, and all house keeping services were amazing. Negatives: - improvement needed on customer service - bar staff in particular with positivity and attitude especially at the pool bar. Also ignoring customers is not okay and females in particular get ignored. There was limited interaction with the bar staff and guests. - Quality of the food is very average standard - compared to other cruise liners it is below average. - Poor allocation of staff on bars, ice cream bar etc. - these are all major points of interactions during peak times (days at sea) and there is not enough staff on these areas. Review the efficiency of the bar as the current system is inefficient and the bar staff who should be focusing on making drinks are focusing on taking orders - this should be the bar servers taking the orders and the staff making the drinks. - Management of the restaurant staff were yelling at other members of staff, which should not be happening in front of guests. - Plates at the buffet are always dirty and seem they aren’t washed properly. There were also dirty cups served to people at the bar. - Entertainment is no where near up to scratch- the dancers were absolutely shocking (except for the special entertainment such as the acrobatics/silks and the ballroom dancers were incredible). The standard of dancers is below average and many people actually walked out of the show. Choreography of dance routines is boring and not up to cruise line standards. Costumes are also not appropriate for a family friendly boat and the ill fitting costumes look unprofessional. This was the biggest disappointment of the entire cruise and a major point that needs to be fixed in the future. - Children are not allowed in the casino and no one is monitoring this. - Very disappointed in the excursions - waiting on the bus for people to arrive back over half an hour after the time we were told is not okay and they should be left to find an alternate way back to the boat. Doing a 5 hour tour which turns into a 7 and a half hour tour not allowing us to see the rest of our locations is not okay. - Another recommendation would be to have an ironing station to be able to do your own ironing as this is available on other cruises. - Pool sizes are not adequate for a Mediterranean cruise which has over 2000 customers - they are way to small - especially considering we had 2 days at sea and everyone on the boat sat around the pool. - Compared to other cruise lines, the prices of the day spa are ridiculously expensive. - Need more employees like the employee of the month, he was full of energy and fun and no other staff seem to be happy on the boat and they look stressed. - Bars opening hours are very limited and only the pool bar was constantly open, and nothing else was. This was such a disappointment! From the moment we arrived on this ship. Although excited to meet our friends and enjoy a 50th, a 40th and a 16th birthday celebration amid visit peaches were had never been, we were nothing but disappointed and upset by what went on. This was the first cruise for half of our group and the 6th or 7th for the other half, although all first time customers of MSC. Needless to say I will not go on another cruise again as it confirmed my fears, although those that had cruised with other companies told us not to be put off by the worst cruise they had ever been on. Although we booked a Fantastica package that was meant to enable us all to eat together, they separated the party according to room type... this included kids and parents not beeing able to eat together....that took 2 nights to fix. It took so long to get drinks from any bar even though on many occasions there were ample staff to deal with the orders but they stood around chatting. Unless you were pushing your way and shoving your card in their faces like many of the rude customers did, you didn't get served. The buffet restaurant was like a 1 star cafe on the boxing day sales. There is a 10euro service charge per person per day they forget to tell you the cost of, which apparently is to go to the staff as tips so we didn't do it individually, yet anyone would tell you they never got it it went to MSC....not that there were many staff we would have tipped anyway as the service was so terrible. Except for the man looking after our room and the waiter at dinner who looked terrified of making any mistakes.....we did tip them as their service was awesome. The majority of patrons were rude and pushy not that MSC can control who gets on their ship. To disembark for tours was unorganized chaos and our scheduled disembarkcation at the end of the cruise was over 1 hour past our scheduled time. Can't describe how's disillusioned and disapointed we are asked wish we had of dpent our hard earned money experiencing beautiful countries on our own. Dont waste your money! Read Less

This was our first ever cruise. we did it as a big family treat (4x kids ages 12 to 23) to celebrate both: 1. My wife and my 25-year wedding anniversary, and 2. My daughter's 21st birthday. The embarkation/sign-in process was one of the worst aspects of the trip & set it on a bad tone immediately. we were not informed that we could go directly to our rooms, but because we had some queries, and have S.African passports, we were told we had to hand these on that day. I spent some 2-4 hours in the queues waiting to be served - obviously along with many others. It was very poorly handled, frustrating and upsetting. This has to be resolved! Disembarkation went well. No one had informed that I couldn't bring a little swiss pocket knife onto the board & having it confiscated & then needing to get it back, was a bit of an unnecessary stress & nuisance. The cabin set up was good, but the room vibrated all the time making proper sleep impossible! The rooms were clean & very well maintained - compliments. The formal dinner dining experience was great. Our waiter was Rakesh who was really charming and helpful. He added immeasurably to the overall dining experience & a formal commendation is appropriate. BUT, all the other meals, with the huge queues, lack of seating, and pretty average and unhealthy food, was a big disappointment. The other key disappointment was the upper deck (pool area). There is effectively NO pool, limited room, shortage of loungers, very noisy etc. This is NOT a ship for an older family like ours bit for one with young, noisy kids. This was our #1 complaint & would make us NOT recommend this particular ship. In addition, the world cup soccer was on at the time, but the viewing areas were all very disappointing - the bar areas were poor places to try watch from (easily remedied but zero effort made; too few chairs etc), as was the business centre - poor TV quality etc. All other facilities were likewise disappointing, bar the gym, which was great. Overall - Disappointing! We had mixed views of the formal shows, but overall were light & fun, if not 'world class' and we did attend many of them. The excursions almost all surprised on the upside, which was great. Well organised & reasonably good value for money. We did, however feel that we were a bit mis-informed about the Santorini/Mykonos, both of which occurred on the same day, as opposed to separate days, as we had been lead to believe…. So as above, overall would be pretty average rating & we would struggle to recommend the Sinfonia, though less sure re MSC overall. I doubt we would go on one of their cruises again... a great pity! We don’t even know where to start....This was the worst cruise we have ever been on, from the ship to the service. So before We post We figured we would give you a chance to acknowledge and respond. The only reason it is taking me so long to write this is because we actually just returned from Europe and I was not going to do this on my vacation after being through the 7 days on your ship. To start you were never able to check in online had to take the time to call and speak to someone as your website was having issues. We then had to have our travel agent reach out to even get the documents emailed to us the day before the cruise . We also were never given the proper experience and room key we had paid for the fantastica package, thinking it would be an easy fix as I am in the hotel industry it actually became a grueling experience, we basically were told they were too busy to handle it on the first day and that I would be refunded for any drinks I bought once it was confirmed with the home-office, to our disbelief we had to wait for the home office to respond because no one works on the weekends at corporate offices. We then had to reach out to the travel agent from the ship again who also reached out to your corporate office and confirmed that we paid for the Fantastica experience. We were astonished to find out that there was not a person on the cruise ship in a management position to actually fix this. So fo the next two days I paid for drinks. At every bar we went to had a problem and asked me for my card then told me nothing was changed in the system. Finally they gave me the drink tickets but refused to change my card to state the package I don’t understand why a new card cannot be printed. Guest services then put a sticker on my card that said EXP 2, well that turned out to be a joke because all the bartenders laughed and said all that means is expired…Not to mention how unfriendly the servers were with an exception of 1 or 2 . We also never had the option to upgrade because it was not in properly when we checked in nor did we ever get anything else that came with the package besides drink tickets like the souvenir photo. When it came time to comp the drinks that many of your staff said would happen at guest relations it was also was an arduous deal, they tried to say that the drinks that we had were not covered by the drink tickets we had purchased but yet no one told us we had to order certain drinks, they promised that whatever we paid would be refunded, period. It wasn’t until the fourth day that we finally spoke to a manager. Although some of the guest relation girls were very kind and Would call and would update us none of them actually did anything about the situation other than being nice. Living in South Florida We have taken many cruises and have never waited 30 minutes for a drink, Especially on a day at sea ,to have only 2 Bartenders working the pool/grill area is Unfathomable. Never once did a server approach us . This was supposed to be a dream trip for a month starting with the cruise .... We chose MSC because so many people said book an Italian line,” it will be great” especially since I am Italian and my husband speaks it plus 4 other language’s . We switched from the Poesia and actually spent MORE money for Sinfonia because of the itinerary, What a mistake that was! We knew this ship was older but would assume it was updated to today’s standards at the very least. It was awful!!!!! So old and smelly, this ship should be scrapped or completely renovated. Then there was dinner... we barely went to the formal dinners, one night we were running late so we called, a woman said come anyway, no problem. We got there and a very rude host told us no even though they were still serving. The night of the captains photo op we showed up dressed within the 30 minute time frame and he was gone 20 minutes early . We were also shocked to find out there was only one buffet when the entire ship to eat other than the formal dining the fact that there was only one buffet and it actually closed at times during the day is something we never experienced on a cruise ship. The quality of the food was so below industry standard and snacks had mostly bread at all times and nothing in between it… We certainly expected much more especially from an Italian line. We have never ever written a review letter like this that had not one positive thing, It truly was disappointing right up to the end I was asked to fill out a form if I wanted to be contacted for my opinion and that at disembarking they would announce a winner of a free cruise, well guess what? That never happened and I confirmed and verified including going to guest relations and asking before I got off the ship if they were going to do it and they said no. We never even received the email after I did fill out the paper asking us for our feedback. I actually had started a list of people so you would know exactly who is rude and the few that went above and beyond I finally stop wasting my time as a list got ridiculously long. There were two people that were super nice at your guest relations but after seeing at the very end how things continued to happen they were not helpful at all. So this brings me to the two worst part’s of this cruise at the end. **After leaving and thinking I left my brand new pro MacBook , We soon realized it was stolen after some investigating. We have called so many times, I cannot even tell you how many times we spoke to your corporate office. We were assured it would be tagged and stored and we would get a call, that has not happened and as you know it is a month later. I woman named Jasmine who works for you actually filled out the lost and found form for us immediately after the cruise. As if all of this wasn’t enough and this Cruise was not a nightmare except for the ports. ***To add insult to injury I started getting messages from one of your male employees who strictly states he works for you and saw my husband and I on the ship. He proceeds to message me on Facebook sexual comments please know I certainly have archived this. What’s Even stranger is that there were a few of your employees that I did not mine actually Facebook Ing me but this particular mail I don’t not even know who he is. My husband is very upset and he’s also talking about us being an interracial couple..... I honestly just don’t even know what else to say again like I said I’ve been in this industry my entire life from hotels to restaurant ownership and never experienced such a negative experience on a cruise ship. The bartenders and people working there supposed to be fun and get you to buy drinks not rude and take forever to deliver. It seems to us that you need to give a little more power on the ship for managers to get answers not waiting for corporate office on a weekend. They should be able to handle a situation right then and there for the amount of money being paid for to cruise. Maybe a little better training would also help. As I write this my husband is actually on the phone on hold with your cruise line again trying to get answers. This was all so very wrong on so many levels! Read Less

As a couple we have been on MSC Divina and Preziosa on Western Mediterranean. We expected similar experience on Sinfonia; however, it was not the case at all. 1) Embarkation was extremely tiring in Venice. Very slow check in the heat resulted in one passenger to be taken to hospital. We checked in at 12:30; our bags showed up at 18:40 after complaining. Most bars on board were closed even though there were no place passengers could go for a while. Those that were open were under-staffed. 2) Bar staff were overall under staffed and rude when you wanted to get drinks. Mixed drinks like Mojito were terrible. 3) Servers at the restaurant were kind and respectful. We’ve had Edi and Allan serving us and they were excellent. Food was also generally tasty. 4) Maitre D’ (marianna?) was very good. However her helper Spartana was rude and he flat out lied to us one night when we were late for dinner due to an excursion being late. He said our table was given away and we had to dine elsewhere. Maitre D’ fixed the situation and she sat us to our table. She than sat other people even 30 mins after we sat down. This Was for us unacceptable and we won’t be returning to MSC because of him. 5) We have done excursions in 4 ports and nearly all of them were waste of money. I highly recommend avoiding any excursion; especially those who offer food or drinks. Free drinks usually meant non alcoholic “flat” soda. The Beach excursion in Dubrovnik was especially bad, we could not get back to the ship sooner. From rude staff to prostitutes on the beach, we felt very uncomfortable. 6) Finally, the rooms were good except for the 15 inch computer monitors as Tvs. The gentleman who was taking care of the rooms was very nice and he lept the room in tip top shape all the time. 7) Entertainment was sub par to our previous MSC cruises. The dance group which seemed to fill in between good acts were over used. Voice of the female singer was good. The juggling and strength acts and the latin dancers were great! Read Less

We chose this cruise itinerary and MSC itself for its affordability (not easy using the South African Rand) and itinerary. Ports of call are interesting, although the Santorini and Mykonos stops are far too brief. Mykonos is just a tease, as you are in port for only a matter of hours. We embarked at Venice, which I recommend, as the one-day stop in Venice (if you were to embark elsewhere) simply is not enough to experience Venice as it should be. The Sinfonia is one of the smallest MSC ships, which to some cruise enthusiasts may be a negative, but for me was a positive, as you feel like you can get to know the ship and some of its crew (as difficult as it is to actually get to know the crew). The trend in cruising seems to be in larger and larger ships, which seems both unsustainable and unappealing to me. However, in this cruise, the combination of excellent service, reasonable ship size, and interesting itinerary made the experience an enjoyable one. I understand that after the summer season in the Adriatic, the Sinfonia will undergo a re-fit. In terms of excursions, we only booked one formal excursion: Oia Village (Santorini). I would recommend this as it enables you to see the iconic views of the island of Thira. We were going to book the evening excursion to Mykonos, but did not. I'm glad we didn't as we simply strolled the city on our own and visited local bars and restaurants. In other ports we ventured out on our own which was a welcome relief from the planned activities of the ship. Read Less

The dates and itinerary suited us. The prize suited us. We spend a few days after embarkation in Italy. A cruise is the best way to see a bit of the world. We saw and experienced Croatia (of which Dubrovnik is our favourite, we lost our hearts in Dubrovnik), Italy and Greece. It was a great experience for us and our 2 daughters. We shall definitely try to do another cruise as soon as our finances are in place. The staff of the Sinfonia was great, the food was great, the entertainment, the excursions the accommodation, everything was great. I gained a couple of kilograms from all the lovely food. It was also a very interesting experience to meet people from all around the world on the same ship. Everything run smoothly from the day we booked until the end of the cruise. I salute the staff and the organization of the MSC. We shall be back! Read Less

I saw a lot of bad reviews for this cruise and was very scared before I boarded. But, I am very happy I chose this cruiseline. On boarding was helpful, staff was amazing. Shows were great and different everyday. Santorini was bit rush but the island is so crowded so its not cruiseline fault. Going our of cruise at various ports was easy and ports were accessible easily. I will definitely go again. Ship is a bit old but you are also paying a lot less as compared to lot of new ships. Ship was extremely clean and rooms were cleaned 3 times a day. All day entertainment staff and programs were very different. All members of my family were well entertained and happy at the end of the vacation. I have only good things to say about the staff.. Very pleasant and helpful, always happy and cheerful. Don’t do it! Service terrible msc staff rude itinerary was not great spent 2.5 days at sea and did Santorini and Mykonos in the same day the intinerary made out otherwise.. Food options poor and far better tasting in hospital.. Skin infection caused by spa so stay away from that. Found my bag late on day of arrival 200 metres from room in middle of walkway. Paid more on board for upgrading package and wouldn’t match what the online price was as we tried but there system was down and couldn’t upgrade, apparently that’s our fault.. Speaking of upgrades the premium beer is not available on level 6!?? Strange as the bars and casino are all on that level! Rort! Every shore excursion we did 1/4 of the cost then onboard, I would have been happy to pay if the cruise was decent enough, got to the point I wouldn’t give MSc another cent. The only great thing about this trip is we get of tomorrow! Any Msc management read this come see me in room 1066 Stay away from MSC !!!! Read Less

The cruise schedule only mention one day at sea, instead they are two. The schedule mentions 2 days at Mykonos and that a great lie. The Santorini visit is just 4 hours in the morning and then the ship moves to Mykonos from 8:00pm to 3:00am, then spend a second day at sea in a ship that the only entertainment is a verity small casino, a antique small pool. Just 4 bartenders for Deck 11 ( pool and sun deck) for all the passengers, spect 20 minutes for a beer or drink. The Buffet food quality is the same as Golden Corral but cold. The restaurant serves the same as the buffet but in small quantity. Food quality is the worst compare to: Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Carnival... The food and beverage personal doesn’t care about the customers that’s do the minimum required. Expect all excursion to start 1 hour late, so you will get less for your money. Final recommendation spend your money on any othe cruise line. This was a 12 member family vacation, as a gift From the Grandfather and was extremely disappointed. Read Less

My husband and I went on this cruise with our two children, aged 9 and 12. We really enjoyed cabin 9003, which was like a suite at oceanview pricing. We chose this cruise both because of this cabin, and because of the kids sail free pricing, which made it a much better deal for us than a comparable cabin would be on another line. We also liked the itinerary, which took us to Italy, Croatia, and Greece. My older daughter was the right age for Young Club, age 12-14, but we never could find anything going on with that age group. Our understanding was that they combined this age group with the older teens due to low numbers, but my 12 year old was not at all interested in or comfortable with hanging out with kids that much older. Instead, she preferred to hang out with her sister and the younger kids, which they allowed. Even so, she still felt too old for that group and wasn't particularly happy with the kids club because she is at an awkward in-between age. I think that my youngest would have really enjoyed the kids club more if her sister had been more enthusiastic, but instead they preferred to hang out together on their own. This ship was a good opportunity for them to practice this kind of independence, and we felt comfortable letting them roam around together without us. My youngest really liked the splash pad area, and both kids were crazy for the gelato. Most nights, we went to the shows without the kids and we did enjoy the interesting acts. We brought the kids to the one with pop music, which they really enjoyed. My daughter asked me, "Is that really Taylor Swift?!" haha. I did feel that the female dancers in the shows were often dressed unnecessarily sexy, and there were times that I felt glad that my kids were not at the shows because of it. Another activity that my older daughter really liked was Master Chef at Sea. She likes to watch these types of TV shows, and was excited to watch one live. My husband enjoyed the fitness area and thermal spa every day, so I am glad that I paid for spa access for him even though I only went once, as it is more his thing. We ate in the MDR each night and our waiter quickly learned our preferences and anticipated our needs. We had drink vouchers due to the Fantastica experience, 12 alcohol ones for each adult, and 12 non-alcohol ones for each kid. Since I do not drink alcohol, my husband used all 24 of the alcohol vouchers, and the kids and I shared 24 the non-alcohol vouchers. This worked out perfectly for our family, and we used most of our non-alcohol vouchers for gelato or virgin daquiris. We also had a bottled water package, which we used to get water to take with us for the excursions. In the end, we had too many of these vouchers though, so I don't think it was really necessary considering that we already got complimentary bottled water at meals with our package. We went on the ship excursion in Split to Krka for the waterfalls, and this was a great excursion and really beautiful. We brought swim suits and got in the water at the falls, which was cold, but still nice. The bathrooms/ changing area at the top of the hill by the parking are free, but the ones at the bottom by the falls charge to use them, so it may be preferable to change at the top. For the other ports, we did our own thing. In Santorini, we took a private excursion to Oia that was available right where we got off the tender boat. We took a boat to Oia, then a bus to Oia town, then walked around there. Then we took another bus back to Fira, and then waited in the long line for the cable car back to the tender boat back to the ship. While Oia was worth seeing, most of our day seemed to be spent in some sort of transport. In Mykonos, we took the public bus to town and just walked to the windmills and around town briefly. This port was at night, and since we were with the kids, we didn't stay out late. In Dubrovnik, we took a taxi straight to the cable car first, and then walked around in town. We were going to do the beach excursion in Ancona, but it was cancelled due to weather. We ended up finding our own way to the beach and left when rain started around 2pm. We really enjoyed this experience and we have decided to rebook with MSC on the Seaside next year. Read Less

Before we went on our cruise, I read alot of the reviews, most were negative. I became very anxious but was assured by other friends that it was good. We commenced our cruise and within days I was very very pleased. We had pre-booked & paid for the drinks & laundry package - this is something I would highly recommend. The room was clean. Food was good. Staff were excellent & helped in every way possible. There were plenty of shore excursions to choose from if you wanted to book any - we booked a few & really enjoyed each of them. Everything about the cruise was excellent. I was horrified that people can be so negative - they are obviously pessimists. Our 7-day cruise on the MSC Sinfonia was great & I would recommend MSC to anyone. Don't let the negative reviews deter you. Go on your cruise and enjoy it for what it is & judge for yourself. We loved it! Read Less

Firstly let me give the do`s and work towards the don`ts. Always eat in the main restaurant for all meals, it`s more relaxed and less hassle. The staff are fantastic and will do anything for you. Tip them personally as it goes a long way and take it off your pre paid gratuities. We had a balcony 9086 and it was really nice and cabin lad was really good. The ship it`s self is lovely but dated, the pool deck is the biggest i`ve seen. Book your seat for the theatre or you`ll not get in. Never take the tours and do your own thing as there is plenty of people on the ports to take you where you want to go. Dubrovnik take a taxi at 13 euro or they charge 15 for the coach in. Santorini get a taxi from the town and they will give you a tour for 100 euro, so like us we had 4 people which was only 25 euro each. Bargain!!!! Mykonos was not seen as it arrives at night and your a good bit away from the port, waste of time, you need longer here, Back to the ship and the poor parts. During the days at the sea they ,dont put anyhting on down in the lower decks everything is at poolside and like us we don`t do pool side then the day becomes rather long. The buffet restuarant is so small it`s bad, crowded and the food choice is poor, even at evenings its the worse i`ve seen. The bar areas on top deck are busy and there is lack of staff and it was quicker going down to deck 5 and back up to deck 11 with your drinks. The all inclusive doesn`t include bottle beer, but you can get a pint of the same beers, strange that one. The irish bar is as much Irish as i`m welsh.. If in the main dining Adrian the head waiter couldn`t do enough for you and the other waiters were fab. Overall i`d use MSC again but on the sinfonia. Read Less

We traveled from Sweden me and my husband. We arrived at Venice Airport. We were picked up by MCS and got a bus to the harbor. We were treated well and had to check in before we stepped on the ship. The bags took them and carried up to our room. As you boarded you were photographed by the security guard. Down in the cabin, one had to take his card to register with money on information deck in a machine. You can choose any amount. At the end of the trip you pay up your debts and, if you owe it, you only pay more money to the Visa card. With credit cards you do not have to do anything, they will deduct the amount directly. They charge 150 kr per day for onboard service. We felt that the room was big and spacious. A nice balcony facing the sea. Comfortable beds,. Good room service. Cleaned 2 times a day in the morning and evening. We ordered breakfast one morning but felt it was so sparse so it was better to eat in the resturant. The evening meal there were two sittings in two different restaurants so just choosing what one wants. There was also buffet food on deck 11. The best part is to buy ready-made beverage pack. But first ask what drinks are included otherwise you will be able to pay. Everything is not included in all packages. But it was very easy to just submit the card and get what you want to drink. We experienced great service and cleanliness throughout the ship. It could get crowded quickly at the pool deck many came early in the morning and put their towels. Do not forget to bring the towel back to the room or they will charge an additional fee if it disappears. For some excursions, one had to go by bus or boat to get to town. You had to pay extra for which you did not know before. But it did not cost much and it was worth it. We can recommend an excursion in Split to a National Park with waterfalls. It was a few miles outside Split. It was amazing. The shower and theater were not that high class. We went once. The discotheque was good. As well as the kareoke evening. The boat is great to explore and you always find something new. We are very pleased with our trip and our waitresses at dinner were divine. We can recommend taking bus transfers to and from the ship. Then you are in good hands both at check-in and check-out. We recommend Sinfonia to others. New tours every day. Croatia is incredibly beautiful. Anneli & David Sköld Sturefors Sweden Read Less

A great mix of destinations: Venice (which we had time to explore thoroughly before departure), Split, Santorini, Mykonos (or so we thought!), Dubrovnik (a long time bucket list destination) and little known Ancona/Urbino. On our way to Santorini, we were informed that strong wind was expected at Mykonos, and that we would spend more time at Santorini, but skip Mykonos, due to that - which meant two full days at sea to visit only one Greek island! Really not what we signed up for! I cannot help but wonder how much MSC saved on fuel and port taxes in the process! The cruise experience was new to us: really did not know what to expect, but we were not disappointed: great food, both in quality and diversity, plenty of drinks and good barista coffee, and too much of that heavenly gelato (the drinks package, by the way, is a must, if only for the coffee and gelato!). Perhaps the ratio of time spent on water to time spent on land leaned too much to the water side for my personal taste, but certainly taste differs in this respect - some people never even bothered to leave the ship! Beware: do not think the actual time available on land is the exact advertised time from docking to time of departure. It takes at least 60-90 minutes from docking before you can actually leave the ship, and you have to be back on board 30 minutes before departure (which in most cases means that you have to start your return 30-45 minutes before boarding time to catch a bus or tender boat back to the ship). But once on board, you can really just relax! Read Less

I will start by giving the positives. We had a balcony cabin which was quite adequate and kept clean by a lovely young man who did an excellant job. After the first night when the food and service was particularly poor we complained and on the whole things did improve although the food was at best just warm. Apart from the two waiters the rest of the serving staff were often miserable and seemed depressed and appeared total uninterested and lacked motivation in their job. The biggest complaint is the fact you cannot opt-out of graturities and still pay 15% on EVERY thing you purchase even ice creams which is a total con. Also the lack of vital information right through the ship is total unacceptable. Trying to get off and on the ship is a nightmare. Takes absolutely ages to the point where you miss quite a bit of shore time. There seems little in the way of management and on occasion total confusion as to when and where things are taking place. MSC are happy to tell you that they have been in operation for 300 years so you would think after all that time they could get it right!?. Read Less

After staying 3 months in S. Africa, we chose this 24-day repositioning cruise from Durban to Venice in order to go home to Europe in a relaxed way. This was a first for my wife and me (both seniors) and we enjoyed it tremendously. The service on the whole was very good, cabin and restaurant service outstanding. By and large the food was OK, however several times it was quite disappointing, almost inedible. The layout of the suite on the 10th deck was perfect for our needs, but a small nuisance every morning when the staff (or passengers) would re-install the deckchairs on the pool deck above us in a rather noisy way. Also the service in the Aurea area was very good. We enjoyed the evening entertainment (except the Swiss ventriloquist) and found the performers (especially Ian von Memerty) all of a high level: dancers, singers and musiciens alike. And we loved the staff show: there is some hidden talent there. Some of the cruise staff brought a smile on your face, especially Natasha van Heerden. On the whole, time in the ports was too short. Disembarkation for the excursions was badly handled initially, with long delays. The visit to the Seychelles had to be cut short unfortunately. The absolute highlight was the visit to the spectacular scenery of Petra in Jordan. Also the passage through the Suez Canal was highly interesting. The next highlight was the beauty of the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro. It would have been helpful to receive more factual information on these sights, as the talks by Allison were not always reliable for facts. The daily newsletter could be used for this information, rather than filling it up with advertising for all the special deals in the shops. We concluded that we had a very pleasant 3½ weeks on the ship and were happy to have met interesting people, some of whom we shall be seeing again. Read Less

MSC SINFONIA CRUISE ITINERARY – DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA TO VENICE – 20 APRIL 2018 – 14 MAY 2018 GOOD COMMENTS 1. The whole of the ship was always clean and tidy 2. Medical Centre – Unfortunately I had to attend the medical centre. The consultation by the doctor was excellent and thorough. The Medical Centre was well organised and very busy. (It was difficult to find as we followed the signs and then suddenly they stopped so it took some time to find which isn’t ideal when feeling ill). 3. Cabin Attendant – I Ketut Suastika did an excellent job. Waiter in the main dining room in the evening – Warnaya looked after us well despite having very little help when his assistant left the ship in Mauritius (our second stop) as he was at the end of his contract. No one replaced him. With having no help to serve the food it was constantly cold including the plates the food was served on. English breakfast in the main dining room was constantly cold every morning. After 6 days we spoke to the Maitre D’ (Luigi),see below. He arranged for the Head Waiter, Adrian, to take my order each morning and ensure it was hot when served. They both did an excellent job following my complaint. 4. A leaky sprinkler in the cabin caused problems for a few days but was dealt with promptly and caused us no hassle as they worked on it when we were out of the cabin. BAD COMMENTS 1. As mentioned above after complaining about the food in the main restaurant being cold Luigi took this complaint over and dealt with it. At the beginning of the cruise I sent 3 evening meals back to the kitchen. Food was placed on cold plates so when served the food was too cold to eat. Our initial complaint was made to Reception on Sunday, 22 April, when we were assured the matter would be dealt with and we would be kept informed. When the situation remained the same and we had had no information, we went back to Reception on Thursday, 26 April. It was then that the receptionist called Luigi and he took our concerns over. 2. Self Service Restaurant – Deck 11 – Awful choice of hot food at lunchtime – mainly stews (these were cold). After 20 plus cruises including MSC, Celebrity, Thomson, Princess, Royal Caribbean, NCL the Sinfonia ship is the worse self-service restaurant for choice and quality of food. The only positive comment I could make is that the cold meat, salad and bread was enjoyable at lunchtime along with the desserts, although again there the choice was very limited. 3. We found the hand sanitiser machines empty regularly. These should be a priority to avoid illness. This was reported to Reception on 22 April, they said they were aware of the situation, but nothing changed during the cruise. 4. Entertainment – The entertainment was no comparison to other ships. Poor male singer. The Cruise Director was conspicuous by his absence – we never saw him around the ship like you do on other cruise lines. The shows seen on other cruise lines are very professional but the shows here (especially the singing and dancing shows) were very poor in comparison. 5. Having mentioned previously we have been on 4 MSC cruises over the years and also with other companies but feel Sinfonia is the worst managed ship out of them all. There was an attitude which was at times all too apparent – we wondered at times if crew were being trained on this long cruise and so were not working towards the level of service we have come to expect on our previous cruises. Quite frankly some staff did not seem interested. For example, newspapers were available on board. We ordered one to be collected from reception at 8-45am. When we went to collect it at 9-30am it had not been printed. We were asked to go back in an hour. It was 2pm when we returned, and it had still not been printed. We eventually got it at 3pm, six and a half hours late after three visits to Reception. 6. People arriving back from the Petra trip which was organised by the ship missed their first-sitting slot in the main restaurant so therefore we had to eat our evening meal in the Self Service Restaurant only to find one half of the self service restaurant had been closed off and not in use. There was nowhere for people to sit to have their meal, this situation should have been anticipated. 7. The last 2 evenings of the cruise the bars had no stock of tonic. The last night of the cruise the bars had no stock of Bitter Lemon, Cider, Coke or Sprite. Obviously not enough had been ordered. 8. The “Daily Program” did not contain enough information compared to other cruise lines. It was virtually the same every day. 9. We had 11 days at sea and were looking forward to having 3 full days in Katakolon, Kotor and Split to find these stops were for half days only. This was very disappointing but no doubt due to half days in port being cheaper as opposed to a full day costing more. The itinerary did specify this but it was still a big disappointment. As previously stated this was our fourth cruise with MSC. Whilst we could not say that it is our favourite cruise line, we have never encountered problems such as these before. Read Less

We chose this cruise to celebrate birthday and anniversary milestones as we had not had a long vacation in years. I cannot recommend MSC to anyone. The actual destinations we visited were amazing but the overcrowding on board, the poor quality of food and entertainment spoilt our holiday. The problem seems to be the management have completely lost touch with what is happening around them and have forgotten the nature of their business. The ship was extended to accomodate more guests but restaurants, theatre and swimming pools remain the same therefor overcrowding and especially over 24 days is so unpleasant! The food was so poor and airconditioning so cold in many areas that peoples resistance to infection was lowered and hence so many people fell ill with bronchitis, stomach disorders and flu - even the ships doctor fell ill. Theatres had to be visited at least 30 minutes prior to the show in order to get a seat and excursions took sometimes up to an hour of queuing to finally get going - so unfair on the many senior citizens on board. It was well noted by many guests that the staff are badly treated working long hours with very little time off, All in all I will never do another cruise with MSC! Read Less

We were looking for a one-way travel itinerary and chose a cruise over a one-way air-ticket. It served as a family vacation for 24 days and was worth the experience. The only thing to keep in mind when doing a long crossing is that most of the passengers are retired and that there are not many children on board, however the team at the Mini-Club are fantastic and have an action packed program for every day. This allowed us to have some "Mommy and Daddy" time which was a treat. Dining was good, with a new dish option every night as well as any-time pizza was always a winner with the children. The photo service is fantastic and well worth buying a photo package. The photographers were professional and friendly and produced some fantastic shots. There was a variety of daily activities and the atmosphere was pleasant. We enjoyed our time on board and will seriously consider doing it again. Read Less

Next the cabin although clean it was one of the smallest balcony cabins we have been in. The food I couldn’t give one good word for yes I know they have to cater for all tastes, even the pasta wasn’t cooked properly. The shows left a lot to be desired, as you can tell we didn’t enjoy. This is a ship that has been extended cut in the middle and a few more cabins added unfortunately they didn’t add any extra facilities to accommodate these extra cabins so you have to book to see a show, having never had to book a show on any other cruise we have been on we didn’t always remember.
