was looking for a cruise to help us get to diamond level- this did that- but the cruise itself left a lot to be desired. Ship was beautiful- but too large- too many lines- my time dining was a disaster (we didn't initially choose that- but reservation was changed to get a better deal and we lost our confirmed early dining because of that)- the cabin was like living in a cargo container- the bathroom was larger than the closet (hard to believe but VERY TRUE)- no space between the bed and the walls- i could stand in the middle of the room and reach out and my arms could just about touch each wall (so about 8.5 ft wide). The shows (Cats) were not very well done and many were cancelled (for some unknown reason). The food in the dining room was under whelming- my wife loved the fish she picked each night- but my diners left a lot to be desired in taste- preparation- etc. The waited did step up by getting us some mice wine glasses and a decanter for our nightly bottle of wine- but it is ridiculous how much they mark up their wines- most of these wines were $8- 12 a bottle and most of them sold for over $40 on the ship. Considering this ship is viewed as a Luxury Cruise Ship, the experience was quite disappointing. The food was substandard and the staff seemed very unhappy most of the time, especially the bar and shop staff. The Spa was beautiful and luxurious but services were overpriced. The entertainment was very good especially the dive show and the ice show but did not make up for the general disorganization of the staff. The food had no taste and the meat was tough. The tea was weak and tasted old and the coffee was so strong even half a glass of milk didn't help. The cabin was small and the closet was extremely small although the balcony was a good size. If I had never cruised before, I would not have had any complaints, however, in comparison to other ships, for the money paid, this was a total disappointment. Will not be sailing with RCCL again. We choose this cruise because 2 families decided to cruise together and both were avid cruises but had never cruised with Royal Caribbean. While traveling with the other family was fun, the daily hardships was not what I had in mind when going on a cruise. The worst of the trip was my youngest child got checked in to the kids club program and we had an adult dinner at a specialty restaurant. After dinner, I went to get my child and the counselors said he asked to go back to the room so they let him leave a performance from the lobby. He was only 7 years old. I was in tears. Luckily I ran to find my child in the cabin by himself. Complete child negligence. This cruise line puts all of its money into building its ships and advertising. Cruise staff are negligent. I can't tell you how many times I saw staff walk past trash, dirty dishes, etc and not pick it up. Sure the boat is pretty in decor but looks disgusting. Very cheap when it comes to the little things. You have to check out towels at the pool or to go ashore. The towels are not even that nice. No one would want to walk off with those cheap towels. Even though you buy the drink package, it doesn't include the pineapple drinks. The kids clubs are very small. Inadequate space for the kids to play safely and cannot do anything than the planned activity. Some counselors said mean things to the children enough to bring them to tears. Counselors do not communicate at all with parents if child had a difficult time. Weird hours for kids club. It closes down at least twice a day. Ice rink was actually only open 2 times over 7 day period for 30 min skate times. And not communicated at all on the ship. Got yelled at when we walked in to check on available free skate time. Room was nice but again very cheap that they don't even have shampoo, conditioner, lotion in the rooms. You must bring your own. Also with safety, there seems to be no way to fluctuate flow of water on flow rider. I saw a couple of younger kids get thrown to the back wall and hit their heads pretty hard. Still no lifeguards even though there continues to be kids who drown on their boats. There are multiple pools on the boat and when their own kids club sends kids free, they could easily go to the pool by themselves. Food quality was worse than a typical chain restaurant like Applebees. My child ordered steak the first night and wouldn't finish eating it and couldn't order it the rest of the week. And he eats steak at Golden Corral. Salmon and seafood was not fresh and overcooked. Very bland food. Went to specialty restaurant one night, and food quality was very good. Just don't forget to add cost of specialty dining every night to enjoy your experience. Went to the aqua show and was not impressed. Best entertainment on the ship was contests of the cruisers, not the trained staff onboard. Lack of information of what is needed for shore excursions and again no customer service. No towels available to take ashore. Would not recommend shore excursion with Royal Caribbean. Book on your own like we did in Cozumel and had a great experience. Their inadequate reservation system will not allow more than 4 per reservation even when there are more individuals in the same stateroom. I called in and made reservations for shows with Royal Caribbean and the staff have no idea of anything. And they made show reservations for 4 and left off 1 person on the other reservation for even their system is terrible and time consuming. They did fix the problem at customer service desk but understand every time you stand in line, it is about a 45 min process at customer service desk onboard. Good luck. Also must get wifi to keep in contact with your party. Walkie talkies don't have enough coverage even though we bought the best ones on board. And unlike almost every other ship, Royal Caribbean does not have an app you can use onboard. Again, that is how they get you to spend more money. I almost forgot that my 2 teens were excited about kids club until there was a fight there the first night so they never returned the rest of the cruise. Read Less

The embarkation and disembarkation of the ship went very smoothly and easily. The room was obviously smaller than any of the rooms of other ships we have been on and after a few days the room was feeling very crammed. The two main issues that caused the negative experience on this cruise were the kids' clubs and the entertainment. On previous cruises (Carnival and Disney), our 10 year old and 13 year old have greatly enjoyed the kids' clubs and were eagerly looking forward to the kids' club on Oasis. They both visited their respective kids' clubs on Oasis the first day for ~30 minutes and never went back. The both said the kids' club was boring and there was nothing to do. My wife and I love spending time with our kids, but we also want to spend time together, especially in the evenings going out to the comedy club, bars, shows, etc. Obviously, when the kids don't go to the kids' club, there isn't much adult time. Big bummer! Second, the shows were not of the quality we have seen on previous cruises, including Royal Caribbean. The CATS show was long and hard to follow. The show at the Aqua Theatre was average. Given that the Aqua Theatre takes up SO much space, we really thought the show would be far better than it was. Also, these shows all require reservations ahead of time. We have never had to make show reservation on prior cruises. The problem is that the ship had 6,400+ passengers on board and the entertainment venue simply can't accommodate the number of passenger that want to see a show. For example, the comedy club seats only 100 people! On every other cruise we have been on, we have attended and enjoyed multiple comedy shows. However, on Oasis, we were never able to attend a comedy show because there just aren't enough seats. This seems like a horrible design flaw of the ship, or, more likely, terrible entertainment management. Vishal's dinner service was excellent and Ricardo did a great job with our room. The food was not as good as any other cruise we have been on, but was acceptable. We had planned to cruise again on Oasis this summer with extended family (19 people total) to celebrate retirements. However, after this cruise, we will definitely not be on Oasis this summer. We are aggressively looking at other cruise lines and ships. Read Less

Let me start by saying that I had previously cruised with Royal Caribbean on the Freedom of the Seas and it wasn't a bad experience I've just had better times on other cruise lines. Four of us were traveling, one is a diamond member with Royal Caribbean. I'm not a fan of large cruise ships. 6000+ people is a little more than I feel like traveling with. Because of the large number of people, you had to make reservations for all entertainment venues. So, whether you liked it or not you had plans for just about everyday. My idea of a cruise is to be as busy as you want or as relaxed as you want. Bigger isn't always better. At Embarkation I requested a wheelchair for my 90 year old mother. She didn't need one on the ship but needed one for the embarkation process including the gangway. After waiting for about 15 minutes, I asked about how much longer it would be. I was told that I should have brought my own. It was taking about 45 minutes to and hour since the ship was so large. I asked to speak to someone else. I thought was I was told about bringing my own chair was totally inappropriate. The next person told me all they could do was wait the hour or they could move us through to the front of all lines so she wouldn't have to stand but that was about it. I accepted. It was better than nothing. But I suggested that with larger ships docking that they might want to consider more chairs. We had Starboard AFT balcony staterooms on Deck 9. Very nice. What we found as the week went on was the back draft of fuel fumes coming in up from Deck 6 where it opened for the zip line, rock wall, flow rider and Aqua Theater. The doors are open constantely so the fumes come in all day. We found that there were only 3 drawers in the stateroom for 2 people. Not enough space for people to put there clothes. Even with the cubbyholes in the closet. Also, the sheets didn't fit the bed and there were no mattress pads. I found that our mattress which was not very comfortable, had canvass sides. What kind of mattress has canvass/burlap sidewalls. The night before we disembarked, I woke up at 2:00am itching and found that I had nothing but bug bites. It was terrible. I had a phote taken with my mother, I mentioned that she was 90, the second formal night in front of the Christmas tree. Thought it would be a great picture and memory for both of us. Stood on line and waited, asked the photographer to take 2 photos. I was told no that 1 was enough. I went looking the next day for photos that had been taken during the week. Not only did I not find any pictures in my folder but the pictures that were in my folder were of someone elses family. For 2 days both myself and staff looked through the images. There was no photo. I was very upset. That was just the icing on the cake. Would I recommend this cruise line. NO. Not on a good day. There are many others that treat you much better. Read Less

Chose this trip because of the port and the ship. Very disappointed with boarding and disembarking. Needed wheelchairs but availability was scarce and the waits were long. Dining has gone downhill. Didn't you think we'd notice less menu items just because you turned the menu sideways. Couldn't get any substitutes according to our waiter who proved less than satisfactory. Cabin was clean and comfortable thanks to our wonderful stateroom attendant. Entertainment and activities were good. Oasis used to be our favorite ship and we are giving Royal Caribbean one more chance in January to see if service is any better from this new port for the Oasis. Don't know if problem was with new staff or with changes in port location. We are bringing first timers with us in hopes they may also love cruising as we do. However, it may be time to do some comparisons with other cruise lines. Read Less

Things that would improve the Cruise Experience 1. Significantly improve the "My Dining" (front of house) organization. Standing in line from 4:30PM to be seated at 6:00PM is unacceptable without some time of advanced notification (or at least some type of seating for the elderly). 2. Cut WAY back on the significant pressure to sell thousands of dollars in jewelry at every turn. We have felt less pressure form timeshare sales people. At least the timeshare goons are only in your face for 4 hours - not daily for 7 days. It boggles the mind to push for sales that are well beyond the limitations set by Customs, and when this is mentioned, crew speaks privately in hushed tones that "... there are ways around things - we can explain in more details AFTER you make a purchase..." 3. If an event requires reservations, get serious about it instead of ignoring people who arrive an hour early and just take a seat (Aft Aqua Events). Crew member response [breaking away from flirting with another attractive crew member]: "Oh well - they were here before I got here so there is nothing I can do about it". 4. Ensure there is sufficient staff at the "Windjammer" to clear tables. We had to ask four different crew members one morning, and wait over 20 min before tables were cleared - then they cleared all 8 tables at one time. 5. Customer service actually has to provide a service. We asked for an email to detail our cruise frustrations and Customer Service said they did not have any emails for anybody associated with the cruise or RCCL, and we would have to go on-line to find the information. 6. Make a point in your advertising that 75% + of the passengers are expected to be octogenarian. According to many of the guests, this is considered 'normal' for this cruise (mid-November Eastern Caribbean) - but you don't find out until you have taken this cruise the first time (there will not be a second time for us). 7. Don't try to charge passengers $3.50 for free coffee (Deck 5 - 24 hour cafe). 8. When there is a change in show times - change the attitude of the restaurant staff. There is a significant lack of communication between food services and entertainment management. 9. Increase the advertised lead time to get into a show. If a show starts at 8PM, recommend that those with reservations get to the doors no later than 6:45PM, or they will not be able to get a clear view of the stage. 10. We understand that the first order of business of the pool deck crew is safety - commendable. However putting up signs on the pool deck that chairs that are "saved" for more than "30 minutes" will have towels and belongings moved by the pool deck crew, needs to be adjusted to something that reflects the reality of "120 minutes". The 80+ crowd arrives on the pool deck at 8AM, puts down a towel and a paperback, then goes for breakfast - back in 90 - 120 minutes to sit in the chair for 20 minutes, then takes off for another 90 - 120 minutes, repeating this pattern as it suites their needs. All along - very few people in the pools or hot tubs. The commentary is not so much on the geriatric set saving seats, as RCCL's signs which are not geared to reality. Read Less

Previous cruising w/ Oasis of the Seas, expected similar experience...DID NOT HAPPEN...! Brought two (2) first-time cruiser w/ us to "show off" the Oasis and experience cruising. Realize "picking" your fights (complaints) should be selective...However...There were too many fights (complaints) NOT to evaluate. -Staff seamed to be "Uninterested" of the passengers existence. -NEVER was introduced to the Captain and his staff as w/ other cruise lines. -SAME evening "shows" that was presented three (3) years ago. -Oasis carries 6,000 passengers...Only TWO (2) coffee pots in the buffet. -NO ability to have your breakfast eggs made to order. -Omelets, eggs Benedict, toast / bagels pre-made BEFORE the doors ever opened. -Total confusion from the wait staff in the main dinning room. Had to seat ourselves and, to add to the snafu,... Waited 22 min. before a menu was given to us...! -The "at sea" days provided very little activity and other things to do (Napkin folding) was about the most interesting, -When there was live music (or D.J.) the volume could have been herd across the Caribbean. Even the public address system was over modulated to the point that NO ONE understood a word. -The checking in and checking out process went very smoothly...probably due to the fact that those people were part of the embarkation port and NOT the Oasis. NOTE: Not sure if Royal Caribbean's "Board of Directors" will see / read these issues, if they do, can only hope they will address them. Read Less

Schedule, 8 days was attractive, we like Port Canaveral, had never sailed on Oasis. Not likely to sail Oasis again. Just too big, common areas like the restaurants and bars are windowless, it felt like a windowless barge . We have had excellent experiences on all the other ships. This crew seemed inexperienced. Costa Maya was a lovely surprise, very friendly, and not all touristy commercial. Did not miss Diamonds International there at all! Beautiful relaxing beach day in paradise. Arranged our own tour at Falmouth. We like. Ocho Rios much better. Cozumel is always great. Love the shops on the square, Always a great meal in Cozumel. Dinner at Chops s always a treat, has been excellent on every ship. The other "specialty restaurants" were just not that special overall. The hibachi experience at Izumi was great fun , would go there again. Sabor was NOT the elegant experience we had on Freedom, that's for sure. But the food was excellent. I love Royal Caribbean, I just did not care for the Oasis. My favorites are the Radiance class ships for ease of moving about, the views from anywhere you sit , the feeling that you are on a ship. The artworks on the Oasis were amazing, some of my favorite ever on any of the ships! Read Less

If you like a big city when people do not really care or know who you are this is the one. We had been on this ship and the Allure but this time things really changed. When a ship charges 2 dollars and 50 cents for popcorn that is really going over board. When you have prices of BETTER food printed on the menu, that does not work. You mean you are feeding me the bad stuff. When you take pictures all the time and ask you to buy them that is overboard. When you have a comedian do the same show over and over and then have him in the big theater at the end of the cruise with the same show, something is wrong. This cruise lines has really fallen, if you want a better experience try Princess or Celebrity, they still seem to have what cruising should be like. When you close your buffet at 9 and really have no place to get something to eat late, except a place with jello, you should just get out of the business of taking care of passengers. When you move a show at the last minute to another venue when some people had waited over 30 minutes and then found no place to sit at the new venue, something continues to be wrong. When all the crew does not greet you or when you ask a question and they tell you to take it easy, again something is wrong. When you charge 5 percent on money that you are putting on your card, get every penny and something is wrong. When you can find no place to sit at the buffet, something is wrong. After thinking about this and many other items, something is wrong with you if you take a Royal Caribbean cruise. There are so many better ways to spend you travel dollar. If you want a better option for a low price try Carnival. One good point, the ship did have the best internet that we have ever had on a cruise line. Read Less

I'st time on the Oasis. Never again. We have been on several other RCCL cruises and are Cabin attendant and dining room staff get a 5 star rating. Guest Relations get a 1, lower if possible. I made all of the show reservations several months in advance. Guest Relations made changes to them without advising us. We found out about them when looking on the reservation site on TV. When we asked about the changes, they said Miami made the changes. Later we found out they (Guest Relations) made the changes. Since the shows were completely booked, we could not go to the ones we had reserved. One of their changes scheduled a show while we were on a RCCL excursion. I was totally disgusted. Food for 6800 passengers must be difficult to make and therefore was only mediocre. With 6800 passengers, you could not find a seat in the windjammer, the Schooner Bar and elevators were crowded. We decided on this cruise because of the ship. We were four adults, two in our late fifties along with our children who are in their early thirties. Embarkation was the best - this was our 12th cruise. Finally a system which was fast and we weren't herded like cows. We did not explore Ft. Lauderdale before embarking as we have been there many times. Disembarkation was also very quick for us. However, they "misplaced" our son and daughter in laws luggage so it wasn't in the area it was supposed to be. They found it an hour later being unloaded which made no sense. I the meantime we had to wait outside the terminal which was uncomfortable and tiring. Very humid and no place to sit. We had a balcony room on the 8th deck close to the front elevators. The stateroom was efficient but very dull. Beige, beige and more beige were the colors. The inside of some drawers were very worn and had pieces missing, the top part of the inside handle of our door had strapping tape on it, there was a pink stain on the carpet, there were stains on the bathroom counter, the table and chairs on the balcony were never wiped clean during our entire trip. There are two very nice areas on the ship which we have not seen on other ships - Central Park and the Boardwalk which also has the Aquatheater. The good...very comfortable beds. Got very good sleep. Loved the entertainment - Oasis of Dreams show in Aquatheater (we saw it twice), an adult comedy show which was very funny and had us in stitches (comedian was John Yannety I believe, spelling may be wrong), CATS which was spectacular, and the zip line on Labadee. The bad...there was a lot....food was terrible. The worst we have ever had, cold, poor selection. Lots of curry...daily. Dining room service was slow and inconsistent. We left early first night and after the poor service on the 4th night did not return. Windjammer food was just as bad, poor selection, food was not replenished when out and stations would close ten minutes prior to scheduled time. Room service was the best for food and so was the Park Cafe in Central Park. Good lunches and breakfast. We had pictures taken but they weren't in our binder nor were they posted and nobody could tell us what happened to them. Labadee which is the private area on Haiti is too small to accomodate 5,000 passengers. But the zip line is great and a must do, Jamaica was ok. We have been there before so we headed to a beach - Silver Sands Cozumel is a dream. Great beaches, great place to walk around or even venture out to see the pyramids at Tulum or other smaller ones close by. We got no "royal" treatment so will not be considering future cruises with RC Read Less

We had teenagers on the trip and thought some of the activities would be enjoyable. Once on board the ship and located in our cabin things were going well. We then went to our first meal and it was a disaster. The crowds were overwhelming and seats to eat were hard to find in the dining room. The food was not tasty and the desserts were extremely dry and tasteless. The main shows were booked up on the first day so we were unable to attend. The sales on the ship are a scam. They had a 75% off sale on watches. I bought a watch that showed an original price of over $700. I bought it for $150. When I got home I looked on amazon and found the identical watch and model number on sale for $79. I feel this is fraud and should be reported to appropriate authorities. Since the cruise ship is not based in the US, I doubt there is much I can do but report this kind of activity on sites such as yours. The ship had too many people in reference to the facilities on board. The pool was so crowded that you had to try to pick some off hours to get in the pool. All in all a crowded, congested experience, with tasteless food, and included being ripped off in their watch sale. Read Less

I will NEVER sail on Oasis of the Seas again. I am a frequent cruiser and this is the first ship I was totally disgusted in. The ship is so large with 6,000 that you are treated like cattle...get in and out. The cabins are smaller, my stateroom attendant was useless. The towels they use are so rough your skin could rub off! First 2 days my toilet did not flush, the safe did not lock, the bed turn down for the evening was so lumpy it looked like the attendant took a nap on it and left! now, the buffet food was tasteless and there was no real variety. same dishes for breakfast, lunch may vary with a few different dishes but nothing noticeable same with dinner. They waiters/waitress were walking around so slow and not cleaning the tables as quickly as they should have so folks that are waiting to get a seat at the buffet could get a table, also the tables were not cleaned thoroughly. The waiters/waitress picked and chose who they would ask if you needed anything. I had to flag them down to get a drink or whatever extra I would need. In the dining room they had lobster tails one night that were so dry it was like biting into sandpaper! The ship itself was beautiful but as I stated too many folks and not enough staff to accommodate everyone. To top if off when I was checking into the port I gave the staff person a different credit card that I wanted to use during our cruise. I told her to remove the one I inputted online. I saw her write down the info for my card, she said everything was all set. I went online today to pay the bill for the card I told them NOT to use and of course, they charged everything to that card! Put me over my credit limit by $900!! WILL NEVER RECOMMEND NOR SAIL ON OASIS OF THE SEAS AGAIN Read Less

The best and worst Why do I put just two on five ? It could be one, but there is two good points: The beauty of the ship and the service from waiters and cleaning room team. For the rest it's absolutly incredible to find what I met. A International Ambassador who didn't like foreign customers, a food quality equal to school kitchen, shore excursions who are a shame for the company. Everything is made to make money with customers. You always have to pay to have something or a service. In the beginning of the cruise, complains came from French cruisers, then it was from Canadians and finally from some Americans. So the comment is shame on managers who decided to transform the better ship in the world to a bad experience for cruisers. I made the cruise to celebrate my wedding anniversary with my wife and the dream became a nightmare... Dozen of others cruisers had the same point of view, sade, very sade Read Less

Tried a mega ship, ONCE, chops served cold steaks, crowded bars which lead to poor service waiting, windjammer was so crowded we just walked out, bad service in diamond lounge, the ship is beautiful and easy on easy off deporting but the entire cruise is one and done. The smaller ships have the same amenities with better service hot food and more personal. The best deal is driving to a port without paying airfares waiting layovers for your next flight, waiting for taxis, traffic to and returning. Debarking time, use express luggage, walk off ship asap your should have no problem in lines and be first to wait at the airport, but at least you can sit and have some breakfast or lunch rather than standing in line for hours. The Oasis would be nice for children and teens with the parks, clubs, and rides not for the older people that wouldn't use these amenities. Read Less

We went on this cruise with our niece, her husband and some of their friends and family, a total of 12 of us. We are Diamond members so we have cruised before and on other cruise lines as well. First time on Oasis of the Seas. The staff was the worse I have ever encountered on any cruise. The staff almost seemed like they were put out if you asked a question of them. The staff in Vintages were rude, did not want to wait on you and when they did, they never came back to see if you wanted anything else or not. The Windjammer was horrible, always a line to get a cup of coffee, most of the time you had to tell them the decanter was out. That is a change, use to someone always coming around with coffee, drinks, etc. The food in the dining room wasn't very good, most of the time the meals were cold and we weren't that far from the serving area. One good thing was the Prohibition Event, we had a great time that night, perhaps it helped that we had two other couples that were sitting with us, we dressed up and that was tons of fun. We didn't do excursions as we have been to the same ports a million times. Also, in San Juan we didn't get off the ship as we only had a few hours. Not a positive first time experience on Oasis. I think RCI needs to rethink some of these big ships. The venues seem much smaller so they can have larger open areas. Not a good thing. Also, the shops are too high dollar. Read Less

The Oasis is by far a beautiful ship but..it's just way too crowded,. The elevators were always full and we winded up having to wait for another one to come. The Boardwalk is similar to a mall and it was also crowded like one which didn't make it easy getting around. There were long lines especially if when you needed help at guest services..I stood on that line for over an hour The food in the Windjammer wasn't very good and I'm happy we were able to eat in the Silk in the evening where the service was very good and the food was much better than the Windjammer. The shows were excellent and the Jamaican band that played in the pool area was awesome!! Activities on board were lacking. We had an interior cabin and was very happy with both the service and our room Our room was larger than expected and rather comfortable.. The young man assigned to our room was always very helpful and he always asked if we needed anything every single time we saw him. We enjoyed each port and RCCL private island is simply beautiful. Unfortunately we have no plans on returning to The Oasis of the Seas. We wanted to experience the biggest ship and bigger is just not always better..in my opinion a smaller ship with less people is alot better. Read Less

Oasis is a case of bigger NOT being better. This was our 4th RC cruise and we have wanted to sail on this ship for the past few years. We finally booked an Aqua suite and three cabins for our party of ten. Suite was nice, roomy and more than enough seating for our party. Coastal kitchen food and ambience better than Grande dining or Windjammer dining. Food overall was a major disappointment. Lacked variety and never warm. Food and service in Chops Grille specialty restaurant was excellent. Entertainment mediocre and difficult to access because reservations are required for everything. Difficult to accommodate a party of ten. Everything seems to close at 9 except leftover pizza and subs on deck 5 . No midnight buffet, no ice sculptures. Cruise director and sidekick were lame and not entertaining. Ship is very large with lots of walking to get anywhere so be prepared to spend 10 min walking to wherever you need to go. Shopping onboard has very limited inventory and prices are not better than state side. I always enjoy the Park West art auctions but auctioneer staff this cruise were aggressively pushy and snobby, especially Jennifer. Not what we have experienced on previous cruises. Overall we will not sail Royal Carribean again. Carnival is a much better cruise experience - value, food and service. We have sailed 9 of their cruises with consistent positive overall experiences. We've been on many cruises, always with Royal Caribbean. Until this trip we were always extremely pleased with the company, the ship, the food and the service. Unfortunately this was the first time we were actually happy that the cruise was over. First, the Oasis is getting old and is starting to show a lot of wear & tear (broken tables in the Globe & Atlas bar, worn tables and holes in the seats in the Windjammer, chipped furniture in the dining rooms, damaged walls in at least one men's restroom, the hull needed painting badly, etc.). Second, the food in the dining room was was just a level above lousy. The portions were small, many times the food was under-cooked or not as ordered. The waiters told us the company changed the menu this Spring and so far the response hasn't been very good. Third, the service was extremely poor. Fortunately there were a few people who went above and beyond to try to compensate but overall they're overworked and very stressed out. Many staff members were rude or just plain ignored you. In the dining room the staff was literally running to try to keep up (one waiter told us that many crew members were out ill and that the ship was at full capacity so many waiters had either extra tables or extra people or both). Fourth, the shows are literally the same from last year (in the comedy club one performer did the same routine so we were actually mouthing his next words). Fifth, it was just too crowded and the pools were packed. In one case a gang of about 12 people probably in their 20's took over most of the beach pool and set-up a boombox and started playing loud music and dancing. We alerted security (it took at least 5 minutes to find someone) and they stopped but set themselves up at a different spot a few minutes later once security left. We went to guest services and got nothing but lip service. Sixth, two members of our group got very sick after eating dinner. The medical staff refused to hear anything about potential food poisoning even though some members of the crew were also reportedly having the same issues. Overall, the Oasis is no longer a consideration and we'll seriously have to reconsider going on Royal Caribbean in the future. Apparently the company's quest for more profits has dramatically under-minded both their own staff & crew and their customers. The only way to get their attention apparently is by giving them a poor review and choosing alternatives. Read Less

I chose this cruise because I had read and heard about the Oasis of the Seas being a ship that had many activities. I took my daughter, my son-in-law, and my two grandchildren, ages 10. & 12 so we could be together as a family and everyone would have something to do. This was my third Royal Caribbean Cruise in less than one year. I also went on one Holland America Cruise during the year. I have been on at least a dozen RCCL cruises over the years, and always enjoyed their service, activities, and food. First I will mention the good things about this cruise. Boarding the ship was a breeze. We were on in no time at all. We took a cimplementary shuttle from the Marriott Courtyard Air and Cruise port at 10:45 a.m. Once we arrived at the Oasis of the Seas, the lines for boarding were short and very organized. We went for lunch at a small cafe in Central Park, where they had a small variety of sandwiches, fruit, salads, etc. as well as bags of chips. This was a free option, and since none of us like buffets, it was a nice choice. We ate breakfast there many mornings, too. Departing the ship at the end of the cruise was easy, too. We took the plan where you can walk off beginning at 7:30 (it was actually earlier when we were able to leave), taking our own suitcases. A cab for five to the airport with tips was less tha $20, and far better and cheaper than the cuise line transportation. We had plenty of time to at the airport for our 10:45 am flight. Breakfast at Starbucks was delicious after eating the ship's food for a week. Arriving at the airport early was a real plus as it was not at all crowded, and we went through security quickly. The service on board the ship was okay, but not as good as any of the other RCCL cruises we previously had taken. Knowing that the help works many hours, we gave them excellent ratings, even though sometimes the service, particularly in the dining room, was very slow. The food in the dining room was not good. We came to the conclusion that this was to get you to pay to eat at the other venues. The filet mignon was so tough you couldn't cut it with a steak knife. The coconut shrimp tasted like it was cooked several days before. I can honestly say we did not have one meal that the three adults thought was good. The kids enjoyed the chicken strips and hamburgers, as well as the fresh fruit cups the waiter brought them as soon as we were seated in the evening. The three adults in our group gave the dining room food a one, three, and five out of ten points on their end of the cruise review. My son-in-law gave the five out of ten points, as he felt sorry for the help! The zip line and surf rider were fun, but there was always a long line to use them. The excursions through the ship were very expensive. The favorite was the swimming with the sea lions in St. Thomas. In conclusion, I think the Independence of the Seas I went on last summer, and the Jewel of the Seas I was on in the Fall were far superior, especially the Independence of the Seas. However, Holland Americ's Eurodam was by far the best in service and food. RCCL couldn't begin to compare to them. Although Holland America does not have the many amenities RCCL larger ships have, I would choose them over RCCL any day. One feature Holland America has is their in room movies, where you can watch fairly new movies and old favorites from many categories free. They also have a better channel selection for news, etc. RCCL wanted $11.99 for some movies, so the kids did not watch any. Read Less
