My family wanted to go to Hawaii on a cruise so we would not be packing and unpacking and flying from island to island. We were told by several friends that The Pride of America has the best itinerary. The ship was amazingly clean. The crew works tirelessly and pleasantly. There are many quiet nooks on the ship for relaxing conversations. The entertainment was good and there were plenty of activities for all ages. Getting on and off the ship is amazingly organized and efficient. There are many dining options. (Our only criticism that the food in La Cuchina took a long time to be served. There were 15 of us so I realize that can be difficult but some us finished our meal before others were even served). At most ports we did our own excursions - rented cars to go to out of the way beaches, charted a catamaran and spent a day snorkeling, etc. I really did not think I would enjoy being on a large ship but NCL does it right. I recommend this cruise to anyone that wants to visit Hawaii. Read Less

We stayed in large balcony cabin 12506 on the Pride of America. The cabin was amazing! HUGE balcony - three sunbeds (we asked for an additional one as we were three in a room) and a full table and chairs. It was the right side to view the Na Pali coast from the comfort of your balcony. Bingo! Plenty of space for the three of us and a curtain to separate the sofa bed from the queen bed. Large closet and loads of hanging. Nespresso machine for coffee. Beautiful Bvlgari toiletries in the small bathroom. Larry was our fabulous steward. We had a butler and concerige as well. We had ice and canapés every day. The butler also emptied the fridge for us and provided fresh milk for us to have with the coffee and bigger cups. He escorted us off the ship fast on the day we left and on the tender day at Kona. This was helpful. He was happy to make reservations for us but we did most of these before we left via the app. We also had priority seating in the theatre and the Conceirge took you to your seats each night which was lovely. We also used the concerige to change a dinner reservation when the dining room couldn’t move it for us. The ship is a little dated but they’re working hard to keep it freshened up, they were always painting and cleaning and it was spotless. 90% of the crew were helpful and lovely and keen to do a good job. We met two rude waiters who had a bit of attitude but that was it. We’ve had better food, but it was just fine. Cagney’s breakfast was good. We had a package with three premium dining, water package and drinks package - id strongly recommend this. We also had onboard credit and bought a set of binoculars- decent price and highly recommended. I did a few stretch and flex classes and they were excellent. The gym was good. The shows were all fun that we saw - we passed on the magician - he was a bit lame. I won the bingo! That was fun. The comedian was quite funny but it was very old fashioned misogynistic humour that grated. My husband enjoyed it though! These Guys WorldWide were very good - excellent choice of music. Go on the first night as they put on a showcase of all the entertainment so you can decide what you might want to see later in the week. Ship excursions were exorbitant- we did our own thing and it was easy to navigate round. If you’ve read the negative reviews don’t worry you’ll have a great time if you just think of the ship as your floating hotel! We had an amazing trip and would recommend it! AIR MAUI HELICOPTER REVIEW We walked out of the port and called an Uber/Lyft from the grocery store in the mall opposite the port. The grocery store was a good place to grab some cold drinks. A helicopter trip is expensive but worth it. Make sure you take the advice and wear dark clothes, the guy in front had white writing on his black shirt and it annoyingly reflected on the windows. Didn’t spoil it. I was worried about feeling sick but it was fine. I felt very safe with the great captain. They try to flog you the obligatory photo/video package but it’s not a high pressure sell. It was expensive but it was so much cheaper than the ships tour. They had good strong Wifi there which was helpful. We got an Uber back to the ship via a great shopping mall that was nearby. We booked our tickets on the Costco US website! We live in the UK and Had to use a friend in the US’s address and credit card but that was fine she “gifted” it to us! (We had to pay her back obviously but it was fine to buy and gift the voucher to someone if you know what I mean. The price for one of us to go on the ships tour was the price for all 3 of us! Enterprise Rent A Car Maui We’d seen everything the day before from the helicopter so wanted to see it close up on land. We hired a car from the Enterprise Kahului Hana Hwy location. It’s a safe and easy walking distance from the ship just 10 minutes. Rental car Cost was $70 and we booked a Hyundai Elantra. We had a little drive along the coast. We visited Costco and they had a ton of Hawaiin shirts! You can get your fuel there if you need to as well. Renting the car was very fast and so painless, Miami airport could learn a thing or two! Admittedly we waited until the rush was over and went a bit later, this was a bonus as we got a much upgraded car for free and it had a built in sat nav. Mainly because all the prebooked cars had already gone so only the good cars were left! Navigating was very easy. We just took a little drive up the coast road and stopped In a beautiful beach where we were the only people. We drove until the road turned single track then did a u turn and drove back. Another lovely day! Very relaxed and and a day for just exploring and seeing. Hilo, Big Island Mauka Makai Adventures We loved our tour with Josh, he collected us from the Pride of America and we spent a fabulous day touring the Island with 5 other people. I booked this trip last minute via TripAdvisor as I wasn’t sure about renting a car and I’m so glad we did this trip rather than our own Self-guided one. We learnt so much about the area, loved our visit to the Volcano National Park (pouring with rain but it was fine!) the waterfalls were pretty and we loved seeing the turtles on the beach. It was so so tempting to take some volcanic rock home but we respected the rules (and the gods) and left it there!! Lunch was so delicious. We weren’t really bothered about the orchid farm or chocolate shop but it was a nice end to a really fabulous day. Take warmer clothes for the volcano area - we did need them on. This is a fabulous shore excursion and good value. The van was comfy and there was plenty of room. Kona, Big Island We got the tender into the port and had a walk around. It’s a pretty town. We walked up and down the high street and went to a nearby lovely beach. Huge waves, toilets and changing rooms. Lots of people were body boarding. It was only a short Uber/Lyft back to the ship. Wings Over Kauai We’re so sorry we didn’t get to fly due to the weather. The owner kindly came and collected us from the Pride of America and explained it was touch and go whether we’d be able to fly or not because it was so cloudy with heavy rain forecast. He gave us the option to head to the airport a quick ride away to chat to the pilot to see the current situation and get our money back if the plane didn’t go. Sadly we ended up with a full refund as we couldn’t reschedule as we were back on the ship for a new port of call. We do hope to be back one day to see the island by plane. We were very impressed with the safety record and service and no quibble decision to refund us. This is a well run outfit book with confidence. He also kindly dropped us off at the very large shopping mall on the way back so we had a good shop in the Macy’s etc. There was also a Costco at this location too but we resisted! We just missed the public bus so decided to get an Uber/Lyft back to the ship instead. Kauai Day 2 Kalapaki Beach is within 9 mins walking distance of the dock at Nawiliwili. It's a public beach park with some rentals. There are food trucks and restaurants nearby. I had a lovely walk along the beach and to the big hotel that was there. Good waves and a decent little beach! Afternoon Cruise Napali Coast - Our cabin was 12506. We sat on our HUGE balcony (3 loungers and a set of table and chairs) and used the binoculars that we’d bought on the ship the day before to spot the waterfalls and boats bobbing about. The views were simply breathtaking. I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. THIS was why we chose to cruise on Pride of America. Read Less

My husband and I took this cruise w/ our kids, 11 and 14. This was our first cruise and we enjoyed it so much! We flew into Honolulu the day before departure and went to Pearl Harbor, it was a nice tour and relieved a lot of anxiety getting into town the day before the ship left. The embarkation process went smoothly. We had a suite, so got escorted to the side for a quicker check in and that was very nice. We were able to get lunch and explore the ship a bit before our suite was ready and our luggage soon followed. The 2 bedroom suite was perfect. I can't imagine anything smaller since we had the kids w/ us. The best part was our deck. We were on the back corner of the ship and the deck was amazing, had great views when we were coming and going from ports as well as when we travelled in the evening. The dining was good, there are adequate choices for your 'everyday' meals and the package we bought included a few 'upgraded' meals as well. We booked all of those early so we were sure to get our first choices. We chose the excursions offered through NCL and they were fun and informative as well. The kids enjoyed the excursions, but did admit they could've done w/out some of the longer bus rides back to the ship. In Maui, we rented a car and drove up Haleakala and Road to Hana ourselves and that was fantastic. I really liked being able to keep our own schedule. Since the boat stays in Maui for 2 days, I would highly recommend this if you're so inclined. We were able to explore Maui and turn around when we needed to or wanted to, not tied to someone else's schedule. In the other ports we did the pre-arranged excursions. Our favorite was probably snorkeling in Kona. The service on the ship was great. Our steward and butler were both very helpful and there when we had questions. The concierge introduced himself to us at check in and also gave us his card, very nice, but we never needed to contact him as everything went so smoothly. Yes, I would most definitely go again. Hawaii was beautiful and there is SO much to see!! Read Less

We like the idea of seeing four different islands in one week, with one flight (paid for by NCL) and only unpacking once, and it worked out great. This was our second NCL cruise — we cruised Southeast Alaska six years ago — and once again the food, cabin and service/friendliness of the employees was great. On this trip, other than the first day (Saturday) and final day (Friday), most of your days will be spent ashore, exploring and experiencing the islands, so amenities like the pool, spa and exercise areas aren't needed or used. If you're going to swim in saltwater, let it be on the beautiful beaches of Hawaii! We rented cars for the two overnight stops, Maui and Kauai, and saw what we wanted on our schedule. You'll need to make sure you have a place to park the car overnight ... which was much easier in Kauai than in Maui (there is a mall relatively close to the ship in Kauai which rents out overnight parking for $20 ... worth it). On the Big Island stops, Hilo has a free shuttle from the port to town, which is quite a long walk with sidewalks under construction. From there, we found our own tour that stopped at many of the city's highlight attractions — saving quite a bit of money from if we would have booked through NCL. In Kona, you'll have to tender to and from the ship, and this process takes a bit of time unless you're up early. To NCL's credit, they had cups of water and cold towels for you while you waited in line for the return tender trip in the hot afternoon sun. The buffet worked fine for us, especially for a quick breakfast before heading out each day. There were always seats on the open-air back deck, usually with good views. And we had no problem finding tables for two for dinner at the Skyline and Liberty restaurants (we usually ate around 8 p.m.; if you like to eat earlier or have a larger group, I would reserve your times more in advance). Plenty of good food choices and the staff was Finally, while we didn't see a show every night, most of the ones we saw were good — especially the "These Guys Worldwide" singing group, backed by the ship's house band. I wish they could have played longer! If you're a first-time visitor to Hawaii and want to experience several sites in one trip, I would highly recommend this cruise. Read Less

A wonderful cruise with my daughter and Granddaughter. We stayed in Oahu 3 nights before the cruise started so we could enjoy Waikiki Beach. I would highly recommend. The Pride of America is a beautiful ship. Our cabin was small but very nice. There was just the right amount of entertainment on ship. Not overblown with too many unnecessary over-the-top add-ons. The entertainment was fantastic. Lots of great songs and dancing. The comedians were both terrific. The crew were incredibly helpful and kind. Meals were fantastic and the Skyline Restaurant Staff just amazing and friendly. The excursions were wonderful. We took two snorkel excursions and the Circle of Fire helicopter ride. All were so enjoyable. I would suggest letting anyone with arthritis or stability or age issues know it is a bit difficult walking onto the catamaran at an angle to get on board the Catamaran Sail & Snorkel in Kona and also gettiing into and out of the ocean. If you are not very agile, I would recommend the Molokini Crater & Turtle Snorkel in Kahului (Maui). It was much easier to board and to go into the ocean from a low platform. Both were very good though. This was a very enjoyable cruise with my family and I would highly recommend it. Read Less

Some in our group had been to Hawaii before to see one, or maybe two islands. But none of us had ever been to all the major islands, and bang for the buck, this was the best way to see all of them. Of course we wish we had a week at each port, but we enjoyed every minute of this cruise. Food service was excellent, ship was clean, and everyone seemed happy that we were there. It is a slightly smaller vessel than some of the giant super ships, but that's great because you don't get lost in a sea of thousands of people. It is a little more personal, a little more cozy, and a little less 'commercialized'. I would definitely recommend, and we've been on other lines and other destinations, and this was wonderful. Kauii is called the garden island, but be prepared for rain. The big Island pleasantly surprised us, and Mauii did not disappoint. The submarine excursion was really unique and something that I would recommend, as well as just enjoying what each port has to offer. Read Less

This was our 14th (or so) cruise and the first time we booked a Penthouse Suite. The room was better than expected and our Butler (Spencer) absolutely fabulous! Food on this ship much better than the Star on which we cruised through the Panama Canal in January 2019. Even the specialty restaurants better on the Pride of American compared to the Star. Perhaps all this had to do with the language abilities of the crew. On the Hawaii cruise, every staff person with whom we spoke was engaging, fun and communicated perfectly. On the Star, even basic communication was difficult in restaurants, bars, with cabin crew, etc. By far our favorite Hawaii excursion was the Outrigger Canoe Experience. Actually run by a non-profit to promote Hawaiian culture to youth through canoeing, the company exposed we travelers to the same by having us row around a protected bay near the ship. Lots of fun & good exercise. The Hawaiian Islands cruise itinerary hasn't changed in decades, yet the stops are all nice & provide great access to various experiences. Easy on & off, even the tendering was well-managed and accessible to nearly everyone. Should Norwegian ever coordinate a 'golf/cruise package', we'll return sooner than expected. Read Less

This was our first trip to Hawaii. We thought the cruise stopping at 4 Hawaiian islands would be a good way to get an initial taste for the islands. We opted for the three days in Honolulu prior to the start of the cruise itself. While it was tough getting around Honolulu with the traffic, the Hilton Hawaiian Village and Waikiki beach did not disappoint. From Booking our cruise and selecting activities through meeting us at our flight, transporting us to our hotel, taking us on excursions, to the ship, embarking, ship board and port activities at the various islands, disembarking and transport from the ship back to the airport, Norwegian had their act together. The only delays we experienced were due to things like traffic and late cruise passengers. Norwegian and contracted support personnel were professional, competent, patient and upbeat. The ship was medium sized by current standards. It was clean and well maintained. Everything seemed to be working. It seemed like the ship sailed at much less than full capacity. This made getting services easy with minimal waiting - except for perhaps the breakfast buffet. It seemed like the average age of passengers on board was 65+. This obviously impacted activities on board the ship during the cruise. Our cabin was somewhat small but standard fare on cruise ships these days. The bathroom was small but functional. There was ample storage space. Everything in our cabin worked. The balcony was smaller than what we have seen on other cruise ships and had too much furniture on it for its size. I would rate our dining experience as good but not great. Overall the service in the dining facilities was excellent. Overall the food as good but not great. We had several meals that were warm (not hot) when they were served. Wait time for our entree in Le Cucina was and hour and a half. We had the meal package at three specialty restaurants which the restaurant greeter's seemed to point out in each case. If Norwegian provides these packages as an incentive to cruise with them they should not make customers feel like second class citizens for having them. Rank order from best to worst for dining experiences would be Le Bistro, Cagney's, Skylight, Liberty Dining Room, La Cucina, Cadillac Diner, Aloha Grill. As far as ship board entertainment was concerned, it was a surprise to us that there was no gambling. I must have missed that in the Norwegian Info provided about this cruise. We sailed on the Epic last year and were spoiled but the variety and quality of the entertainment provided on that ship. Compared to the Epic we felt the entertainment was limited. With very few exceptions, service on the ship was excellent and probably the strongest feature on the cruise. Staff was cordial, efficient and extremely helpful. Norwegian was well organized at each of our ports of call. Getting on and off the ship was straight forward. The port facilities were basic but adequate. The shore excursions were well done. Our bus driver was a pro. I had been looking forward to visiting Pearl Harbor for some time and it was clearly a highlight. Wish we had more time at the Battleship Missouri. The Polynesian Cultural Center was interesting and a learning experience. The trip to the ranch was limited by weather so we weren't able to experience all it normally had to offer. The ship used its own life boats to tender us to Kona on the big island (the ship had to anchor off shore). This was handled expertly. We did not travel with children. I think the cruise was more geared toward mature passengers. The excursions were geared toward older people with perhaps limited physical capabilities. We rented cars and did our own thing on Maui, the Big Island and Kawaii. This allowed us to focus on sites we were most interested in and spend our time as we saw fit. This allowed us to do, for example, more hiking than would probably been possible with excursion groups. Small cars were also able to access places large tour buses could not. I can see us visiting the islands again on the future. Not on a cruise but rather focusing on specific islands and points of interest. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary. We could not afford to take 15 days to sail from the Mainland. We spent a day and a half at a resort, sightseeing Honolulu, and boarded the Pride of America on Saturday, 27 Apr. We found the crew to be very nice and friendly when you smiled at them and gave a greeting sorts. They smiled back. Funny how that works. Every job has a grumpy day so... If we ever go again, we will not do a bus tour. We did one on Maui and even though it was interesting, we we subjected to the Cries of the Angry Adolescent Tourist. The other islands we stopped at, we rented a car. That is by far the best way to see 'stuff'. It's all beautify. However, there are those who will choose the bus tour but be prepared, it is expensive. It's Hawaii, everything is expensive, just plan for it. The ports we stopped at were not a typical cruise port with cute kiosks to shop at; that most are expecting to see. They are working harbors. When you leave the ship, that's where the magic happens. We ate at three of the specialty restaurants; Cagney's Steakhouse, The Moderno (churriscaria) and Teppanyaki. The food was outstanding in all three, but at the Teppanyaki, the chef was extremely entertaining. A true showman! Because we were in a suite, we ate breakfast and sometimes lunch at Cagney's Steakhouse. It was a set menu daily. But, it was not as crowded. All in all, the we would do this cruise again. Read Less

We took NCL Pride of America for a 40th birthday celebration and it didn’t disappoint. (Almost) everything was fantastic. Would highly recommend anyone interested in an overview of the main HI islands take this cruise, then do a deep dive later on their favorite island. The food was mostly very good, with the exception of the embarkation day meal in the Aloha Cafe and anything at the Key West Bar and Grill. The specialty restaurants do a better job overall but Liberty, Skyline and East Meets West we’re also quite good. The entertainment was sweetly hokey but fun, and the production crew is very talented. Also enjoyed the Hawaiian-centric activities led by Kaulana, they were fun and informative. Speaking of crew, both Casey’s in Jefferson’s Bistro were fantastic, as was most of the rest of the crew we interacted with. In most cases they were far friendlier than our fellow passengers! The only exception was our interaction with the “internet manager”, while I am sure she gets the same dumb questions every week, she should never come across as dismissive or condescending, which she did. This cruise was a gift from our son and it was the best cruise we have been on. We sailed on the "Pride of America" and stayed in cabin #12006. The cabin was in impeccable and exquisite. The balcony held 4 chaise lounge chairs, a table with 4 chairs and a jacuzzi. The main highlight of the cruise was the Renewal Vow Ceremony. Everyone who participated made it a very special day. Ellen, our butler, exceeded her duties and became our friend. The special dining was excellent in service, the food presentation was very appealing and an A+ in taste. All of the entertainment was great, The dance contest and the Las Vegas show were the highlights. There aren't enough words to say about the service from the staff. Everyone was very welcoming, friendly and showed warmth, kindliness and proved to be very genial. Embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly. The ports and shore excursions were good with our favorites being the Blue Hawaiian helicopter in Kauai and UFO parasaiing in Maui. We were treated like royality. It was great having two stressfree weeks. We highly recommend this cruise iine. Read Less

We picked this cruise since we didn't want to spend days on a ship sailing from the west coast. The itinerary was amazing. Some general tips to help make your trip more enjoyable. Daily drink specials save you money on your alcohol bill, getting the bottled water delivered to your room is a big time saver, nix the transportation package. You can get a uber, lyft or taxi for a few bucks and save yourself time and money. Unless you are a foodie, don't bother with the dining package but it would be worth it if you are, since the restaurants are fabulous, especially Cagney's. Pro tip, even if you are eating in the main dining room (on floor 5), make reservations, it eliminates a wait, you can do this on the first day at guest services on floor 5. The breakfast buffet is good, it gets very crowded after 8am, if you want an omelet go early. I read some reviews that the employees were rude and unprofessional, that wasn't our experience at all. If you treat people with respect they will treat you with respect in return. Regarding going ashore; we booked rental cars in each port to explorer the islands on our own. Since you have to go to the airport to pick up your car, make sure your rental company offers transportation to and from the cruise ship, this saves you $15-20 on taxi/uber each way. Spend the money to rent a Jeep Wrangler. You are going up mountains, driving on sand and some of the most amazing spots are hard to get to in a regular car. Plus you can make your own parking spots in some of the more tourist heavy locations. If your goal is to stay on the ship and not enjoy the islands the isn't the cruise for you. The ship is smaller without all the bells and whistle of the larger ships. But it is clean and fit our needs perfectly. Also, make sure to stay on the Port side. Each port of call is just an industrial park so the view isn't worth it, looking out into the water would be. Plus sailing along the Napali Coast, you would need to be on the port side. Unlike some reviews I read, maybe for our cruise he went the opposite way, but I was disappointed I couldn't enjoy the coast from my balcony. I always get a balcony when I sail, but we would have been ok without one, since you are in port every day. We got the internet package, which was over $200 per person, per device. It was nice in the evening to have access to the ship's wifi, but since you are in port everyday, we really didn't need it (or could have just gotten it on one device). I can't stress enough how amazing it was to see all of the islands. As a first time traveling to Hawaii, this was the ultimate vacation. Now I know what islands I would come back to (Kauai and Maui) and what islands I would skip (big island of Hawaii and Oahu). Read Less

I chose Pride of America because I’m an NCL cruiser. I know what I’m going to get with NCL. I also travel suite or Haven class, and I think that makes all the difference. Easy embarkation and disembarkation, escorted right through. The speciality restaurants reserved for suite guests are outstanding. My suite was perfect, with a wide deck so my lounge chair faced the ocean straight on. My suite was 12008. Entertainment was very good, especially the last night, the Las Vegas review. The cabin staff was great, as was the butler and the concierge, although I really didn’t make use of either of those gentlemen. All the specialty restaurants were excellent, but I also enjoyed East Meets West, and the buffet for certain things. The tours were excellent. I took two helicopter tours which were amazing. The land tours was informative and fun. All the guides were good. I took 8 NCL tours. I saw and did everything I wanted to do. The luau and the Manor House dinner was excellent with seats right up front. I would recommend the cruise to anyone and everyone, but I don’t see myself going again. I live in Florida, and that’s a long flight. But, I saw and did everything there was to see and do. My memories will be with me forever. I’m 73, and I traveled by myself. NCL is the best line, in my opinion. My only small complaint was, since a pre cruise hotel was included in my package, the shuttle from the airport should have been included in that package. Strange airport, I had to get a taxi on my own. $45. The shuttle should not be tied to the air reservation. I shouldn’t be penalized for securing my own air. I still love NCL. Read Less

NCL Pride of America is an extremely well managed cruise and we loved every moment of this trip. From flight bookings to shore excursions everything was managed by NCL and we did not have any worries about the planning. After we reached Honolulu, NCL check in was simple and the staff helped us with boarding and check in of luggage to the ship. Once we were on the ship, it seemed a little disarray as passengers had all assembled in Deck 5 but things were quickly sorted. The rest of the days we were on different shore excursions but the most fun we had was watching the shows in the evenings. The shows are excellent and have many themes like Polynesian dance forms, Diva show, Vegas, Old Hollywood etc. They were well choreographed and the theatre was amazing. It almost felt like a Vegas Cirque Du Soleil show with great performers and music played. Last but not the least - The food ! They had everything during lunch, breakfast and dinner ( though we would love more Vegan options) and i would suggest if anyone is Vegan just like me then they need to probably have some snacks/light food with them especially if they do not want to have the same food everyday in the buffet. Overall the cruise was beyond our expectations and we would love to try more cruises from Norwegian after our wonderful experience onboard Pride of America. Read Less

My husband and I chose this cruise to celebrate our anniversary. The aloha spirit was everywhere. DO NOT HESITATE to take this cruise. We wanted to see as much of Hawaii as we could and this was a great way to get to multiple islands. We have cruised with Norwegian for the last 3 years now. We have been on the Getaway and the Jade. The ship, service and food was as great as any of the others ships. The embarkation was super quick and easy. The disembarkation was also a breeze. So much better than what we have experienced in Miami. A shout out to Ferdinand our cabin steward and Nikki the bartender in the Napa bar. They went above and beyond for service and hospitality. We did many excursions offered by Norwegian and they all were great. We did the zodiac snorkel, sunset whale watch cruise and helicopter tour in Maui. We did the waterfalls tour in Hilo. We did the Volcanos National Park tour in Kona. We did the Luau and mudbug ATV tour in Kauai. We came home exhausted and happy to experience the true gem of the USA. Read Less

We wanted to see more than one island. Great trip ! Not one problem ! Great food and entertainment. Fantastic views. Easy to get on and off the ship. Every one was super nice. Great food selections. Easy to find your way around the ship.Room was a nice size. Olenty of hot water for showers. Maid service was fantastic. Wide variety of things to do for everybody. I would higly reccomned the cruise. We would really like to do it again in a few years. Instead of getting off the ship and heading to the airport the last day, we rented a car, stayed on the North Shore in a house for two days and did some more sight seeing. It was great and saved us the hassle of having to rush to the airport. I would highly reccomend anyone taking the cruise to spend an extra day or two in Honolulu. Read Less

We chose this cruise so we could sample the diversity of multiple islands in one trip. The itinerary is the greatest draw of this cruise. While the Pride of America is not the most glitzy cruise ship out there, it's clean, easy to get around in, and everything was on schedule. One key factor for me was having gluten-free dining options. And that's where NCL shined. I contacted the cruise line 45 days out and they passed my dietary needs on to the restaurant management on the ship. It was recommended that I meet with the restaurant manager when I embarked, but that never happened. I was told by guest services to see the individual managers before dining in their respective restaurants. So, there's a little bit of a mixed message there. What I soon found out was the wait staff have been trained very well on how to deal with Celiac needs. If the waiter or waitress was unsure, they immediately consulted their manager -- who came to my table to talk to me about my options. We ate at three of the premium restaurants (buy the "ultimate" dining package to save $). They were quite good. We rounded out meals in the main dining rooms. I never felt unsafe with dining choices and enjoyed great meals. Our stateroom was not huge, but with the Family Balcony, it gave us a little extra room. Views from the balcony did not disappoint. Our steward was attentive and did a great job. The common areas of the ship are a little dated and showing wear, but with constant cruising, they are doing maintenance all the time. Shore excursions available from NCL and private outfitters was another high point for this cruise. Since the ship stays in port overnight at two of the ports of call, you can book early and late activities on those islands. Our tour guides were knowledgeable and kept us entertained. Note: if you take this cruise during whale watching season, you will likely see many whales. We took a boat out of Lahaina and saw two dozen whales! They came up to and under our boat. Amazing! All-in-all, we would repeat this cruise. And, now that we did this cruise, we feel ready to do a land-based vacation in our favorite spots. Read Less

We chose the POA because it was our 25th anniversary and we wanted to visit Hawaii and it was a great way to see multiple islands. After reading some of the reviews we were a little confused by some things so I thought I'd clarify a few since I couldn't find straight answers. 1 - The food in Cagney's is great for breakfast and lunch as a Suite guest. Martha (restaurant manager) has turned things around. The service and the food quality was great. 2 - Each suite is stocked daily with up to 2 (1 liter each) bottles of still or sparkling water. 3 - You pick three bottles of wine at check in that are delivered to your suite the night of departure. These bottles can be consumed in your cabin or at a restaurant or bar. 4 - A bottle of champaign is waiting in your suite at embarkation. 5 - You can pick soda to be replenished daily in your suite, up to 6 cans. This is something to consider in lieu of a soda card, however it doesn't cover any soda consumed in any of the restaurants or bars. We did the math and since most of our sodas were consumed in our Suite we didn't get the soda card. 6 - NCL has started offering a Hawaiian Unlimited beverage option, but it is $100 per person per day. Unless you're planning on consuming about 8 alcohol drinks per day it isn't necessarily worth it. I've also uploaded a walk through video of the suite since there weren't any recent videos. It can be viewed by searching youtube for "Pride of America suite 8500" Gulsen our Butler, Gene our Steward and Thomas the Concierge were absolutely amazing. Kaj the Hotel director actually performed our vow renewal and with Zoe's help from the group events group it was fantastic. Overall we had a fantastic trip. The ship is in good shape and although we didn't eat at the buffet we had good food at every restaurant we went to. The ship is smaller than many of the Caribbean ships that you may be familiar with both on NCL and other cruiselines. However, that makes it seem "less crowded". In addition, because of the size some of the amenities you would expect aren't at the same scale. For example the pool is not as large as you might expect. The entertainment isn't as "top rate" either and there aren't as many other amenities as you'd find on some of the other ships, like water slides, rollercoasters, ice skating, etc. However, because of the nature of this itinerary, ie you're at a different port every day, much of your time is spent off the ship, and very little on it. As far as dining, as I mentioned previously we didn't do the buffet, but the selection of food choices, both specialty and otherwise mean that you won't go hungry no matter how picky you are. There's a coffee bar, gelato bar, sushi bar, bakery. Granted all a la cart. There's also the cadillac diner (which is 24x7 and included), which has great milk shakes and simple "diner" fare. East Meets West and the Tepanyaki restaurants have "good" quality asian bistro food as well as a hibachi experience. The Moderno Churascarea is a great experience for those that like the brazilian steakhouse style. The Tuscan Bistro is excellent italian food. We did not eat at the french restaurant but heard positive reviews. All of the restaurants have no dress code except Liberty and the French Bistro which require close toed shoes for men and no shorts for women. Our experience with service was great from all of the crew. We never had anything less than excellent in terms of how people acted or reacted to requests. In fact, our experience was so positive we have already booked another trip, with our three college age children for spring break. We've also been advising people who are "new" to cruising that its a good intro, since you don't typically have any sea days, and it could very easily make you want to do more. In speaking with other guests who have had problems with motion sickness in the past they commented that they didn't experience it this time since we are predominantly sailing at night when its either dark outside or they're sleeping. We just got back from our cruise on the Pride of America last Sunday, February 24, 2019. We chose this cruise because we have been to just about all the Caribbean islands on the Royal Caribbean, Carnival and NCL ships. We thought it was time to see something new. We have been on everything from Royal Caribbean smallest ship in the ocean to their largest etc. I must say that the NCL Pride of America was AWESOME in every way possible. We booked our trip last summer and I did not even look at any reviews. Then I started researching port excursions about a month before the cruise and noticed there were various bad reviews on Yelp and some other review sites like Yelp. I must say that I became a bit nervous after reading these reviews. Well NCL Pride of America was amazing and so much more!!! For starters we stayed in a penthouse suite with our 2 daughters who are 13 and 16. We were greeted within 3 minutes of walking thru check in and were escorted to a private desk for an immediate check in. It was seamless. It was the fastest that we ever got on a ship ever!!! We spent some time eating at the lunch buffet and walking around the ship to see where everything was at. I just kept telling my husband how in shock I was of the negative reviews that people put on the internet about this ship. Honestly, I have never ever taken the time to write a review but I really felt like I have to in this case. So the next night at dinner at Cagneys Steakhouse I asked Martha who is in charge of Cagneys why could there possibly be so many negative reviews. She explained that it really was a shame as well! She also mentioned that the ship had a multi million dollar refurbish 3 years ago! I figured as much because I knew it is a an older ship but so many things on the ship look brand new. So basically in a nutshell the food, entertainment and service was absolutely AMAZING and I would soooo recommend anyone interested in this Hawaiian Cruise to take the cruise of a lifetime!!!!! You will NOT be disappointed!!!! Read Less

My cousin and I had a wonderful girls vacation on the Pride of America! They only thing that could have made our trip a little better was less rain, but the crew had no control over that! The Napoli Coastline was beautiful and I would have liked another highlight or two more like that while on the ship. The food was wonderful & accesssability to food was available nearly 24/7! They ran out of a few food items, and service was a bit slow at the Liberty restaurant, but it wasn’t a huge deal. I celebrated a birthday on the ship. I think they were uploaded to sing and bring me a cake, but they forgot. I didn’t really need it anyway and may have enjoyed a drink more than more dessert (which was readily available on the ship). They also offered me $50 off a spa treatment, but you still had to pay another $100 or so for a service. Would have been nice to just get a little free service, like nails done or hair do or something, but I guess everyone needs to make a living;). We went to a bunch of great entertaining shows and also learned how to make several different types of leis! I was also impressed with security coming off and onto the ship, although getting off the ship the last day was a bit hectic (long lines to get off and confusion as to if we took our own bags off or tagged them). The gentlemen taking care of our rooms were also fantastic and always had our room looking great! Hawaii is a beautiful part of the United States and the Pride of America was a great way to see several of Hawai’s many islands. Read Less

My hubby and I had an amazing 7 day cruise on the Pride of America. it was a nice ship and people were very friendly. The cruise director was very fun and all that worked with Jamie were amazing. The food was amazing especially in the Skyline Room. When we couldn't go to land we found things to do on the ship. I would recommend a cruise to anyone. It is great to have all your things in one place and not have to move around. Thank you Pride of America for a wonderful cruise. There was plenty of places to eat and when it was sunny, many places to go and sit and relax. The spa was great and the massage I had on Valentines Day - a gift from my hubby was amazing.. We went to shows each night and enjoyed the entertainment. Our cabin was very clean and the nice man who was in charge of the floor was amazing. Good time had by all. Read Less

I chose this cruise as it was the easiest way to see the islands of Hawaii. I had read lots of negative reviews between Nov and early Jan after booking and was a bit anxious before hand but decided that I was not that bothered I would be off the ship more than on. That did not work out, the itinary was turned upside down and we lost 2 days in Maui due to the weather. Nothing anybody can do about that. I had read a prev negative review about the cruise director Jami, unfounded, I thought she was as good as any and she was there at every corner with a big smile and welcome, even when we were leaving the ship my daughter got a hug. Prev bad reports about the staff and entertainment I also found unfounded. The waiters, servers have a tough gig, working all day, every day for months on end with a smile on their face, but do it well. The dancers and singers on stage are new and the shows on the Hollywood and Mardi Gras were good to excellent, the very beautiful and talented Danielle one of the singer/dancers was especially nice to my daughter, who is 4. Food/service in the french bistro restaurant was my favourite, Japanese restaurant was also really good and the chefs put on a good show. Wine tasting is super value for money and the guy was really good. Barwoman in the piano bar was also super nice to my daughter, not to forget the photo crew. The ships real asset is the staff. Yes the ship is older, I have cruised Azamara, Royal Caribbean, MSC x 2 Celebrity x2 and Holland America and apart from Azamara all other ships we less than 6 month old. I hated Azamara due to that ship being old and was concerned about this ships age before embarkation. Room is a room, as long as we have a balcony we are happy. Our cleaner was Presentation(her actual name) who also works hard and never without a smile and a laugh. Yes, the ship is not a fancy as other boats, but guests and staff more than compensate. My first time without a drinks package, really not worth it with NCL. Freddie the waiter at Mardi Gras also worth a mention, happy chap. If Hawaii was not as far away from home I would do the cruise again next year. Thank you Pride of America staff and a bigger thanks from my daughter Aimee, she had a ball. Only complaint would be, there should be 2 days in Kona and a day less on the north Island. Do a excursion in Hilo or it’s a quick walk round and a day on the ship. Read Less

To be honest, because we wanted to see as much as we could of the other islands in Hawaii and NCL had a monopoly on the market as far as cruising went. The ship was easy to embark and disembark at every port of call. The ship and cabins, although older, were well maintained, clean and the service excellent in keeping it that way. The trip was excellent, staff fantastic and the entertainment on board top notch. The cruise also offered a varying selection of dining choices. Loved the idea that we were not forced to use buffet, as each evening came with an upgraded dining choice or a few restaurants with a la carte menus. The only challenging piece we experienced was with the head office and your excursion booking application. We had booked many excursions and placed the items in the shopping cart. At checkout we had selected a credit card to make our payment. The authorization went through and seemed to be no issue, until we were advised a day or two later, that our excursions would be cancelled as we had some how paid short on the invoice of $1.57. It cost us more in phone calls, aggravation and worry, since we were already in Hawaii and commenced our vacation. Very poor customer experience in consideration, that it was more than likely the NCL system that erred. I would definitely use NCL again. Read Less

We wanted to have a chance to see the greatest number of islands without the headache of transportation. The cruise was the answer... Simply unpack once and you are shown all the sites. Food was the highlight.... and when you want it. The open dining was a real treat in the Liberty Dining room and not treated like a bunch of cattle in a buffet. That's right real waiters and a menu. Open seating. We never had to wait. Then when was considered too habitual, not often, we went to the 50's diner for a quick snack.. Of course the buffet was still there with all the ice cream and deserts as needed !. The aft deck was a treat for viewing... especially during departure from Honolulu. Night with city scape. ooooh!! Don't miss the Na Pali Coast cruise by on the last day. The views are amazing Shops ok. but who really wants to go shopping on the ship We spent some time getting the games from the Library and going to the game room to challenge the couple we were traveling with. . Dancing available in the Pink Champaign room but limited dance floor to many different types of music. We went on 4 paid shore excursions and enjoyed every one of them. Cruise staff all VERY nice and friendly. STAY away from the margarita tasting event. BAD, BAD, BAD. Read Less
