I really, really enjoyed this cruise I will never forget the extra service from the medical staff to the security .The staff was amazing always go an extra mile. Was happy to see South Africans working on board.. meeting new friends . Will do this again with my crew this year December. MSC keep it up... yhoo I was so scared because of previous reviews people saying bad things about MSC, I almost cancelled the trip yerrr...what I've learn is that you will never satisfy everybody just stick to your thing and do what you you know is best. This was my first time cruising trip. Now looking forward cruising from Rome and Naples as well as the Amalfi coast around December . Safety was the priority with MSC. Well done Read Less

This was our 8 cruise and the second with Msc. We choose this cruise because of the itinerary. We are a couple in our late fifties. Embarking in Venice took several houres and here they can do a better job. Stateroom. We had a suite om deck 10 and it was very nice with a good bed, lots of space, å nice bathroom and a good balcony. Everything was kept nice and clean by our cleaner. Food. We had breakfest at the buffet, lunsj mostly in the buffet and one day in the restaurant and dinner every night at the restaurant at deck 6. All the food we had was wonderful and the service by the waiters was excellent. Drinking package. We had the non alkoholic package with water, coffedrinks, soda, none alkoholic softdrinks etc. and they were all very enjoyable. Smoking. We dont smoke. There are no smoking at the balcony any more . Only place inside were people could smoke was in one bar. We were not there and had no problem with smoking people. I never smelled any sigarette smoke at all. Entertainment. This entertainment ensemble is one of the best I have seen. They have wonderful singers and dancers. We saw every show. They were brilliant. Every day we were out on a organized tour and they were all good. We did Sibenik and Trogir in Croatia, Kotor and Perast in Montenegro, Ljublijana in Slovenia and San Marino in Ravenna. Every tour well organized. There were a lot of different activities day and evening on the boat to choose from . As we were out most of the day the evenings went to dinner, show and dancing. Would I cruise on this ship again. Yes with no doubt. Thank you for a wonderful week MSC Lirica. Read Less

Because we want the reviews and feedback below to reach the right staff, we start with the address of the highest in rank! Review: We wanted to cruise to India Not a tour in a group but an individual tour, so we could go our own way. And afterwards we could enter our clean cabin. We have booked our excursions in the Netherlands at info@fstravel.nl, which was perfectly arranged to perfection. Our thanks go to all the staff who do their very best to make it perfect for you as a guest, super hospitable and you are really central as a guest nothing is too much! The dinner in restaurant LIppocanpo was worth a Michellen star! Delicious. Our hosts Gusti Wiiaya and ASSORI are top in our experience! We give these men a big 10! This cruise has been put under quite unreasonable pressure by a number of fellow guests, but nothing was too much for them ... a big compliment! Of course we also want to thank our stuart Farizi Andi from Housekeeping services for all the work that Andi has done for us, Andi is ready for you day and night and our Cabin was clean and clean Andi ThanXX also a big 10 for Andi We also want to thank Helda Sinaga and Richar Saldon of the Coffee Corner (Bar Services) for their hospitality at the Coffee Corner, always a smile and friendly. Nothing too much !!! Also a big 10 for Helda and Richar! If I were the manager of the MSC Lirica I would immediately extend all of the above people to their contract !!!! Our thanks also go to Valentina Caiazzo Guest Relationship Manager for the delicious drink and snack !!! Valentina also a big 10 !! If these people above were in our immediate area hence our big thanks. Thanks in part to the staff, our Cruise has become unforgettable and a dream has come true. !!!!! We do expect a response by e-mail from the management of MSC Lirica to be sure that our sincere compliments have ended up with the right staff !!! Greetings ❤️❤️❤️ Read Less

We like MSC because of the wide range of people from different countries. On our trip to the UAE this December, we would say that this has been one of our best cruises. I had read numerous reviews of MSC Lirica and had low expectations. Flying with Emirates was exceptional, the service and attitude of staff was excellent. Arrival into Dubai International airport was quick and efficient , no issues with immigration . Transport to port no issues. Embarkation was not as quick as we would have liked, but once onboard had a nice buffet lunch. Downsize was waiting for our luggage to arrive, thankfully it was an informal night. But it would have been nice to have been able to change out of our travelling clothes. I had pre booked all our excursions as the info received advised on receiving a 20% discount from onboard pricing. However, all trips were in Euro and seemed cheaper that what I had originally paid and they were offering discounts for booking more than one trip. However, the excursions out were value for money as we learned about culture and traditions etc. The ship was the cleanest that we have travelled on. One criticism was the hand cleanliness machines sometimes did not work and no one was really advising customers to use them. Food and drinks: We had 1st sitting, our table companions were really nice and we all enjoyed each others company. We only ate in the restaurant in the evening. The portions were not oversized and generally of high standard. If we still felt hungry, then we would go to the buffet and / or the pizza on deck 11. And for those still hungry nibbles from midnight to 2 am . Regarding drinks, I only booked two packages, both per cabin, not per person. Firstly was the coffee package: 15 cups of high quality coffee, and frozen coffee , teas and hot chocolate and secondly the 4 wines and 7 litres of water. I did not realise that we were allocated free water , so that was a bit of a waste. Having the choice again I would not book this package as the wine and choice was limited, the best two wines were an Italian rose and an Italian Merlot )Canti), the French wine was not so good. Other than that there were nightly offers on cocktails which made them good value. We thought that the entertainment in the Broadway Theatre was to a high standard, each show seemed to get better and better. If one wished to go to other decks to listen to other types of music one had plenty of choices. We did not participate in on the onboard activities as we were out on excursions and chose to relax once back on board. Service: The waiters and domestic staff were mainly from Indonesia, and India. Their service was exceptional. Nothing to complain about at all. Our cabin steward was Rias from Indonesia, she was excellent, we had clean towels twice per day. The cabin was bigger than our bedroom at home so for us it was a pleasant luxury. Ports and Excursions. This was a first time visit to the Emirates, most of the ports provided a free shuttle bus out of the port as pedestrians were not allowed to walk through. The alternative was to go on a MSC shuttle for a fee, which took you into the centre of the city. AS previously mention we found the excursion good value. If travelling in a group of 3 or 4 then one could negotiate good deals with the taxi drivers. Our favorite port of call was Doha in Qatar and would be the one place we would return to. The city is spotless. There were a few disabled people travelling and their needs were well catered for. It is noted that people become tired of hearing the seven languages when announcements are being made. However with such a diverse range of people travelling I think MSC should be applauded for this. As they cater for all languages. Read Less

I felt I had to write a review following some of the awful ones others have written, We spent a week on MSC Lirica & had an amazing time. The ship was beautiful with excellent staff. They always went out of their way for us. The food was great. We ate in the restaurants & the buffet area. The choice was endless in the buffet & I find it hard to understand why people are criticising the food. Judging by the amount people had on their plates, they were certainly enjoying it! Great ports of call with the exception of Heraklion, very disappointing but that is just our view. Entertainment in the theatre was professional & different each night. Cabin was lovely & constantly cleaned with fresh towels twice a day. Embarkation & disembarkation procedures were excellently organised. Please do not let other reviews put you off as it was the best holiday we have ever had! Read Less

This ship was lovely plenty of bars and food was lovely in the Restaurants. Different menu every night. If you didn't like what was on the menu they always had chicken salmon and something else can't remember. You could also have T-Bone steak but had to pay for that 20euros and it was lovely. Yes sometimes food was warm but just speak up and they will get you another plate of food or choose something else. They couldn't be more obliging so you have no excuse. Buffet was always busy and hard to find a seat so never bothered going there. You can go to the La Boussola for breakfast and lunch. Room service brill. We had the all inclusive package with drinks suited all 24 of us I love Baileys Disaronno Vodka and you could have Smirnoff and Absolute :-) and all top cocktails all on the drinks package. As we were a party of 24 we mainly stuck to the Lord Nelson Bar the bar staff were brilliant. On off ship ran smoothly at every port. There are shuttle buses and on occasions you have to pay but as we could get 4 in taxi we used them, apart when at Mykonos you have to get a shuttle boat about 6 euros each. The Lirica docks every time so the Tenders never used. Please do not take the other reviews to hart. Everyone has an opinion but to be honest their just nip picking. We went on the Norwegian Epic last year absolutely fantastic and did have my doubts about the Lirica but I was not disappointed and all 24 of us had a brilliant time. Can't comment on the Entertainment as we never went to any of the shows. One last thing they take your bags as normal before boarding you have your picture taken for fun with ship in background as they normally do. Then board ship you have photo taken for your passes on and off ship and your drinks and they are in your cabin after 2.00pm. Before you get this you just have to show them your booking confirmation when getting drinks. Read Less

Best Vacation I traveled the Mediterranean aboard the MSC Lyrica for 8 days in September with a few girlfriends and had an absolute blast. I was amazed at how hard the crew worked during our stay. They were very attentive & accommodating. We paid for the unlimited drink package in advance and when we arrived, our cabin cards did not reflect such. We went to the reception desk and were taken care of with cards updated immediately. The food was mediocre in my opinion but that is not abnormal for cruise lines. There were options of salads, hamburgers, hotdogs, French fries & pizza every day & night so when nothing was appealing on the buffet there was always these options to fall back on. The breakfast was my favorite meal of the day, eggs made in every variety for different preferences. The dinner restaurant was enjoyable. Our servers, Antonio & Igor were very nice and provided excellent service. Trust me we were a group of picky eaters and they handled us with such grace. There was a hard time finding sun beds on the deck for relaxation, early bird gets the worm with the chairs & that’s normal. Walter waited on us regularly on the deck. This guy was always there hustling to provide superior service; quick, attentive and friendly. The drink menu had a large variety, Definitely something for all tastes. I enjoyed different mixed cocktails by day & wine or whiskey on ice by night. I did find many of the passengers were rude & lacked manners. Simple things we do in America like not cut in line and wait for an elevator to empty before entering was definitely lacking in abundance during my stay. Excursions were good, locations were amazing. There were a couple excursion guides that were a bit brash but balanced with the others that were friendly while informative. Absolutely beautiful sceneries. Would like to have had more free time on land when planned excursions. The entertainment was perfect. The nightly shows in the theater were different each night and had good choreography. My personal favorite place at night was the Lord Nelson bar. Nightly music by Nenad was so nice to settle down for the evening. He offered a variety of music choices and even tossed some comedy into his gigs. The service was superior in this bar than the others, all the drink waiters and waitresses were hospitable. The bartenders in this bar were also above average, Yash always had a smile on his face and eager to serve. If there’s such thing as regulars in a weeks time, this was the location. I not only adored the staff & entertainment in this bar but made friends from all over the world with fellow passengers. The music, service and company each night will forever hold a warm place in my memory of my time on the Lyrica. The ship was clean; bathrooms, sitting areas, bars, dining spaces, floors & cabins. I noted employees cleaning at all hours. Our cabin was cleaned twice a day and the entire ship was maintained well in accordance with the amount of people on the ship. Overall this was an exceptional experience and I will be booking with MSC again in the near future, along with strong recommendations to my family, friends & colleagues. Read Less

This was our first cruise not with Holland America but we were soon appreciative of the comfort and luxury offered by MSC. The accommodation was excellent and the food exceeded our expectations. The itinerary both on board and the excursions suited us well as we are both nearly 70 being able to relax and enjoy the leisurly days as we wanted was important. The public spaces were a little noisy but there were quiet places and all the staff were helpful and made us welcome. Embarkation in Venice could have been easier as the ship is a little way from the water taxi stop but a quick drink in one of the many comfortable lounges soon revived us. Dinning was pleasant and of a high standard, the staff really made us welcome and spoke good English making it easy for us to chat end enjoy the time spent with them. We have no hesitation in recommending the cruise on MSC Lirica and are looking forward to a repeat cruise. Read Less

we choose this cruise to celebrate our exams ending, and although it started weak, it ended up being amazing. the ship had everything you needed, and you could eat whenever you wanted, and there was food for all tastes, although the buffet was crazy. The dinners were better every day, and all waitress was simply great, i celebrated my birthday there and they made it unforgettable. the entertainment team was super energetic, they always gave the best of themselves, offering and they had always a big smile for you, but with the visits, you didn't have much time to do the activities. The best part of the ship was the lord nelson pub, despite we didn't smoke, the voice of konstantin it's just amazing even being sick, it was crazy the way he played, and all the pub team was just wonderful, we tried to go every night. All the ports was amazing, the only negative point was that you had to take the shuttle bus to the center for most cities, and these should be free. We enjoyed each second inside and outside this ship. Read Less

This was our first experience in a Cruise. We are very happy about it and these are the reasons why: - The organization of MSC was very good, allowing us to have a safe and very enriching experience; - The places we visit were beautiful and very special; - The cruise staff was amazing. We would like to emphasize the performance of the singer Nenad Konstantin (Lord Nelson's Pub). He is a wonderful singer, musician and artist and he made our holidays even more special. Congratulations! We would pay to watch a show performed by him; - The ship is beautiful outside and inside - the inside areas were very organised, clean and appealing. In our opinion, there are also some negative aspects to point out: - The food could be better; - The medical service is too expensive; - The music of the disco was poor, our biggest disappointment; - The 11th deck was always too crowded. In general, it was a very good and enriching expecience and we would like to repeat it! The experience of a Cruise allowed us to meet wonderful people, from different cultures and different countries and that is the most important thing. Read Less

Fantastic Mediterranean cruise with the MSC Lirica. Amazing experience. I have seen so many beautiful places in Italy, Greece and Croatia. And that in just 1 week. Beautiful Greek islands. The varied coast of Croatia with Dubrovnik as a highlight. And of course Venice with all its water. Temperature averaged above 30C. Very delicious. The water temperature of the Mediterranean in late August is also excellent. For swimming ideal. To visit Venice with a ship is very special. It is also very nice to enter the center of Venice. Everyone in the center uses a boat. You do not see cars, buses and trains. Everything goes through the water in the center. Public transport is via a bus boat. Very cool. The MSC Lirica is a beautiful ship. A recently renovated boat that looks like new. There were 2.000 passengers on the ship, the maximum. There are ships with 4.500 passengers, but 2.000 I also find a lot. The service is good and very friendly. There is so much to eat and drink. Not normal. On board the ship you will find people from all over the world. Staff and passengers come from everywhere. That's pretty funny. A cruise ship is a small world in itself. Nice to experience. Highlight on board: the Lord Nelson Pub, with his modest singer and super guitarist Nenad Konstatin from the Czech Republic, and the sweet Mary from India, who is always ready to serve you. Finally, I want to thank my new Mexican friends for the Mexican Cuba Libres. My favorite drink from now on. Thanks everyone.. Read Less

It was a trip from Venice to Bari, 3 islands in Greece, Dubrovnik and returned to the departure point (venice). The cabin had a view to the sea and it was large enough to fit our needs. The cleaning service was really good as our cabin was always clean. The overall personnel service was good, however sometimes over saturated during peak hours like lunch or dinner. Waiting for a drink sometimes took over 5 mins at the bar. Regarding food, all of the restaurants had good food. The pizza was really good and the fancy dinners had a nice menu. We had never heard of this cruise line but ran the Eastern Italy and Greece and it fit our schedule. We didn’t have a lot of expectations of this cruise but it turned out to be one of the most fun cruises we have ever been on! As Americans we were concerned that we would not understand what was going on, but we actually did just fine as they make announcements and daily information letter in English and other languages. There is a wonderful show every night that was highly entertaining! Very talented performers! They also have a entertainment staff that run all the activities throughout they day and into the evening. They were so funny and engaged the guests with so much energy! They put on their own comedy show every night that had very few folks at the first night but by the end of the cruise there was standing room only! You could tell they loved their job! We met several staff members on board that we formed a relationship with which always makes a cruise more enjoyable. Our favorite bar was the Pub. Really have only a few negatives we found on board. Breakfast was not the best meal for sure. We only had lunch on board 3 times and that was good but found we liked eating in the dining room better for lunch. Dinners were fantastic! There was probably on 2 dinners that were not a good as others. We traveled with 4 of us and almost always each of us had something different so got to taste a lot of the food. The elevators are very slow, so we tended to walk up and down instead. Getting off the ship in ports could have been better. People can start this cruise at several ports so there was folks going on shore for the day and some leaving the cruise. For the most part we didn’t notice unless it was a port where there was a lot of guests disembarking like in Venice. They should have had a separate exit off the ship for those going out for the day as you had to wait in line to get off the ship along with everyone else. Takes away from your port times. Some of the ports had such a short time in them that was not fun in some of the ports. Some of them a few hours were enough, others, we would have loved a full day. The buffet area is not good! Way too small and hard to get around with the layout they have. Food was good, but it was really hot in the dinning area and very narrow. Not a good feel up there. Like I said before, we liked eating in the dinningroom for both Breakfast and Lunch better. Just a better feel. You could order off menu or go through the buffet in there. Overall, we had a blast on this cruise. Felt a little “fish out of water”the first day only because we felt like we were the only ones on board that spoke English, but by day 2 we were just fine and met folks from all over Europe, and had a blast trying to communicate with them! Just added so much to our experience! Give them a try, you may be pleasantly surprised! Read Less

We chose this cruise, because of the path it took and the timing for our travel needed to be in this specific window of time. The trip only included my husband and I. Our trip was Venice>Bari>Delos>Mykonos>Herkalion> Corfu>Dubrovnik>Venice. We opted for a room with a balcony, the aurea package which included unlimited*(select) drinks, a couples massage, access to Deck 13, preference seating during dinner with extended menu. We chose the excursions in Delos to explore the ruins, and our favorite excursion was the Dubrovnik cave snorkeling. On our own, we did wake boarding, parasailing and other water sports at a local place in Corfu. The staff was courteous and attentive. We had privacy when we needed but at times, it was difficult to find any seating when it was time to eat in the dining areas. We enjoyed the poolside area of the ship. Usually there was enough seating and Deck 13 was okay but exclusive. The massage at the spa was one of the best Ive ever had. We also had access to the sauna with the aurea package but did not use it as it was not coed and I did not wish to go sit alone and neither did my husband. There was a gym which looked pretty cool, but we did not use it. The entertainment on the ship, a dancey magic show, with singing. It was....sub par. Kind of silly, super cheesy and not really worth the time. Maybe those with children enjoyed it but as a couple of adults, we could take it or leave it. The casino, blah, not interested even with the tiny bit of allotted credits we had. Bingo was offered but seemed too expensive. We did choose to have our picture taken on one of the two formal nights. We really enjoyed getting dressed up and dancing. Our favorite thing to do after dinner was go listen to the lounge singer, who sang some in spanish, maybe they were Puerto Rican? They were fantastic. Also, listening to the piano being played in the other lounge area was nice. We danced and drank as much as we could. Then, we would get a couple of cappucinos or american coffees in the cafe area of the ship. We enjoyed our options at dinner. We were always at at the window area in the restaurant we ate dinner at every night. It was a really cool view but the sun gleaming in the window all day made this particular area very hot. The heat coming in combined with my husbands sea sickness, did not always make for an enjoyable meal. Most of our favorite foods were in the common eating areas where there was all you can eat pizza and sandwiches, and sweet treats. At one point, I had a little hint of a not so good time. I'll explain, I am very petite. I am under 5'0, therefore many times when seated, my feet dangle. Because of this, I often prefer to sit with my legs crossed in my chair, this is a habit and for comfort. I was sitting this way at dinner one night and the waiter told me to put my feet down. I was a little offended and embarrassed. Other than that, everything was WONDERFUL. Read Less

I went on this cruise with my family and a friend and purely picked it because of wanting one from a specific date. Honestly an amazing cruise and experience overall. It was my first cruise so obviously I have nothing to compare it to but the friend that went had been on several top class cruises through his life and said it was the best one by far. The staff were great as they were helpful and friendly and were from places all over the world so they were also very interesting to speak to. The cabin was a bit small for three people but was very clean as it was cleaned every day. The main dining room was very posh and nice but sometimes the selection of food in the money was not very large. Not a lot of vegan options in the buffet so my sister had to make do with fruit most of the time. I would definitely recommend getting the drinks package as you will definitely get your money’s worth as cold drinks are needed through the hot days. The entertainment was great and there was lots of things to do through the day if you stayed on board for whatever reason or for any days at sea. The gym was great but the spa costed a lot extra so I didn’t bother with it. There was a great room for leaving your kids if you needed to where they would be looked after, have fun and make friends. There was lots of people from different places, mainly Italy, Germany, Spain and France but a few other English people. This didn’t bother me as it was interesting to meet people from other countries but if you don’t like culture and being outside your comfort zone then maybe give it a miss. The pool could get very busy when it was hot so if you wanted a deck chair near the pool or in a good place you would need to get up pretty early. Also travelled with a wheelchair passenger and the staff did everything they could to make life easier and make boarding and embarking easier. It was overall a spectacular cruise and there was almost nothing to complain about, I would definitely recommend Read Less

We chose this cruise as we wanted a comfortable and relaxing way to explore a lot of different cities. We have been on the MSC Sinfonia before, and we immediately felt at home on the Lirica, as they are similar. Our cabin was fantastic - we booked with a balcony and got upgraded to the top floor (thank you MSC!) including a lounge and a bath in the bathroom :) We also chose to purchase the "all inclusive drinks package" and wow, this really saved us a lot of money and meant we could, other than the great drinks and cocktails, have as much water, awesome coffee and ice cream as we wanted! Very friendly and professional staff, it really feels as if you get to know them personally - they remember your drinks order, greet you by name and stop to chat. The entertainment team is a special bunch of people; they have an awesome zest for life and ensure non-stop fun! We absolutely loved the theatre shows, we did not miss one and each one was quite different from the other. We did not get off at every port, as it is also enjoyable to stay on the ship and lounge at the pool, chill in the Jacuzzi, sip on a cocktail, take an afternoon nap - just have a real relaxing time. We alternated having dinner in the sit-down restaurant downstairs, or the buffet upstairs - there really are great options of food for every meal! We did not do any paid excursions, but opted to explore by foot as we are fit and used to travel - a real highlight on this itinerary was Dubrovnik - walking the old city walls was an incredible experience! The embarking and disembarking process was seamless, despite the number of people. Read Less

This was our first cruise. We were a family group of 5 comprising my husband, 2 teenage daughters and my mum who is 70. This cruise was fantastic. I cannot rate it highly enough. We chose 2 x side by side balcony suites on the Fantastica package. We were able to connect the balconies to allow us dual access between rooms which was a fantastic bonus as we spent quite a bit of time in our rooms enjoying our company and the amazing views of the Medeterranean. We had the loveliest house attendant and the staff in the restaurant were just beautiful. Always happy and so very accommodating. The Allegrissmo package was so good. The drinks on offer were extensive and presented beautifully. I especially loved walking on the decks and the casual feel of the Lord Nelson Pub. Piano lounge was pretty cool too. Yeah the food was occasionally a little on the average side but the rest of the experience totally eclipsed any small nuances we may have felt. Duty free shopping was surprisingly good. From the review I had read I was to going to go near the shops but I ended up spending around €200 and was delighted with my purchases. Really good value. My one wish is that we could've stayed in some of the ports longer. 5 hours in Santorini just wasn't enough for me. What a place! But on the flip side, we then gone to explore Mykonos in the evening. Another suggestion, have a dedicated TV station explaining the current location of the ship and the significance of the country. Would've been great for us as complete foreigners to Europe. All in all, I would recommend MSC to anyone and everyone. It was excellent value for money, the staff are just gorgeous, the ports of call fascinating, food is plentiful and varied and lounge areas relaxing and comfortable. I am madly saving it my next cruise Read Less

I am a first time cruiser so some may say I have nothing to compare with, however I do travel extensively each year and stay in many hotels with my work and a cruise ship is like a floating hotel. My wife and I both felt we were treated extremely well by all staff we encountered right form check-in on day one until disembarkation on day 8. The ship was kept immaculate the rooms, bars, resturaunts, public areas/ toilets, spotlessly clean and fresh. All staff were dressed in tip top attire throughout. We did our research before the start of cruise and decided to purchase a drinks package, so all food and drink on board was free for 8 days, the quality of which was first class, you could indulge for a full 20 hours per day if you wished. The theatre shows on board were as good as the West end in London. Musicians and singers in all the bars were also of an excellent standard. Can`t wait to do another trip and will definitely use MSC again (but also consider other lines) Read Less

Dinner was a fabulous experience where we met lovely people to share our meal. Our waiter at dinner was first class (Budi) and he couldn't do enough for us. Evening entertainment was first class with spectacular shows and acts. Facilities were excellent on board ship. Our destinations were spectacular and extremely well organised. I had never wanted to go on a cruise but three weeks before we were departing for 5 weeks to Europe (from Australia), I saw a great deal advertised on MSC Lirica and upgraded to the top deck, balcony suite which was amazing. We loved everything about the cruise from the first minute. Embarkation was very quick and easy, the only gripe was waiting over an hour for luggage to the cabin. The animation team lead by Ana, were always smiling and made us laugh so much, as did fellow passengers who took part in the entertainment. The dance instructors, Simon and Giulia were so happy and patient and did a great job. Service everywhere was impeccable from the cabin steward to bar staff. We pre-purchased the alcohol package which was a great deal too. This cruise will stay with us forever, the animation and entertainment teams were so talented and we still laugh about some of the funny things that happen, like Bingo in several languages. The nightly shows in the theatre were also world class. I loved the multi-lingual staff and cannot thank them enough for making my first cruise not my last. cannot wait to travel with MSC again. The cleanliness of the ship was in my view impeccable. Food was very good. With multiple choices every meal with choice of restaurants. I have seen previous reports of hot dogs and burgers being a staple. This is misleading, as whilst they are available all afternoon and evening they are as well as the bistro and restaurant choice and the other available meals such as fresh cooked pasta and pizza. We chose the bistro most days with the choices of dish being very varied always including good salad and fruit to accompany. Dinner in the evening was a highlight, with great service. 4 nights on our cruise was black tie. This company has a clientele of many nations and sometimes announcements in six languages can become tiring, but I wouldn't change this varied mix of fellow passengers who enrich the experience for us. If there is a criticism it must be a minor one on the entertainment, which some of the singers seem to think their english is better than the reality. To be fair they are trying to satisfy Brits/Germans/Italians/French and others all in the same show. The whole of the crew were cheerful and even after 5 months in the gulf the entertainment team were in top form. We found the all inclusive package well worth it, not having this will hit your pocket hard if even a moderate drinker. The service charge is daily and billed at the end of the cruise. Our 18 days came to about £400. Trips are expensive for what you receive so we chose ours carefully and walked off the ship into town when we could. Comparing prices with other lines I think MSC to be good value and we would go again Read Less

I am fortunate to have family based in Dubai so have seen many of the sights already. I booked my flights independently to give me time pre and post cruise with the family. If you arrange a fly-cruise package you need to bear in mind that some of the return flights were very early and some people needed to leave the ship at 3 a.m. on the morning of departure. Would highly recommend organising your own flights to give you more flexibility and the chance to see Dubai pre and/or post cruise. I did a similar cruise with RCI last year but wanted to visit those places I just could not fit into the itinerary then. I have travelled several times with MSC but this was my first time on Lirica - I was not disappointed. The ship was kept spotlessly clean, the staff were friendly and efficient. It was nice too that we had plenty of time in each port of call so were not rushed to see the various sights. Embarkation went very smoothly and I was in my cabin (10061) by 9.45 a.m. and my luggage arrived very soon afterwards. The cabin was well equipped with plenty of storage and wardrobe space, a good sized bathroom, a nice balcony with two chairs and a small table. The huge bed was comfortable and there was a cosy armchair and settee for relaxing in. The safe took some finding but it was hidden behind the huge mirror! My cabin steward was first class, very friendly and efficient and he kept the cabin spotless throughout the cruise. I did ask for my daily tips to be taken off my account and the receptionist was quite happy to do this, allowing me to tip those I thought deserved recognition for the service they gave. Do ensure your final on board account is not converted from Euros to GP Sterling (or your own country's currency) as the cruise line make a charge for the conversion. Prior to sailing I had set up a Roll Call and we liaised with each other regularly and arranged private excursions at some of the ports. We met up on several occasions and had some fun evenings together, along with other newly formed friendships with people from various parts of the UK, Australia etc. DINING: I opted for first sitting at 6.30 pm (felt second sitting at 8.45 pm was too late). I was on a table for 8(three couples, a gentleman travelling alone and myself). We all got on very well and had a lot of laughs together. Our waiter Wody was excellent and looked after us admirably. The food was very good with plenty of choice and it was nicely presented. One lady on the table required a special diet (gluten free) and the waiter was fully aware of her needs and meals were prepared separately for her if she could not make a selection from the menu itself. I mostly ate in the main dining room for breakfast and there was everything you wanted - cereals, fruit, yoghurt, croissants and of course the full English breakfast. The self service buffet served the same food as in the dining room but on occasions it was so crowded but it was OK for a quick lunchtime meal. A 24hr tea and coffee station was located on Deck 11 and at selected times it was possible to get pizza and pastries there too. The formal nights were not as grand as some cruises I have been on but enjoyable all the same although I felt the Gala Night dinners were not anything very special. I had pre-booked the Allegrissimo All Inclusve Drinks Package and at £18 a day it was great value for money. It included all wines, water, soft drinks, spirits, cocktails and tea and coffee with meals and there was no 15% surcharge on any of the drinks ordered through this package. The Coffee Corner served speciality coffees and it was possible to sit there for drinks too. This was one of the places with WiFi but internet time was very expensive and the reception was not very good at times in many of the designated areas. ENTERTAINMENT: The shows in the Broadway Theatre were very good with singing, dancing and speciality acts. The choreography was precise and the dancers worked so hard. There were two performances each evening so after my evening meal I would make my way to the theatre for the 9 pm show. I did try my luck at the Casino but needless to say did not come away with a fortune!. There were several lounges to choose from, each offering different types of entertainment. My favourites were the Cabaret Lounge and the Beverley Hills Lounge. The entertainment staff worked so hard making sure everyone had a good time integrating with the passengers all the time. Our group did venture to the disco one evening but being of the older generation we found it a little too noisy on the dance floor so found a quiet corner and enjoyed watching others. POOL: There were too pools and the surrounding areas were kept very clean and there were plenty of sunbeds available. It was quieter on the Sun Deck on Deck 12. Daytime activities were centred around one end of the pool deck and people could join in or sit back and watch as they chose. Again the entertainment staff worked hard to keep everyone happy. The pool water was quite cold but quite refreshing once the initial shock had worn off. Unless you like being amongst smokers you need to choose your sun bed away from the designated smoking areas (this is one reason why I did not visit the Lord Nelson Pub as it was a smoking zone) SPA: I enjoyed a visit to the Spa and was pleasantly surprised how reasonable the charges were compared to other cruise ships I have been on but one needs to be quite firm to avoid the sales pitch they adopt In trying to get you to purchase the products after a session. EXCURSIONS; In ABU DHABI I booked direct with The Emirates Palace Hotel for Afternoon Tea - all I can say is WOW! What a wonderful experience. Booking direct was cheaper than going on an organised excursion via MSC and I was given a leisurely guided tour of the hotel beforehand and what a beautiful hotel it is. Yes, it may be a little extravagant but the tea was delicious and served in style in a lovely setting. I could not get through all the three stages and came away with a box with sandwiches and cakes which I shared with friends back on board ship. When I docked at Abu Dhabi last year I did the City Tour organised excursion which included a visit to the Sheikh Zayed Mosque - it is breath-taking and anyone visiting Abu Dhabi without seeing this magnificent building is missing a great treat. KHOR AL FAKKAN - I had read other reviews on this port and on recommendation from those several of us took the free shuttle bus provided by the Oceanic Hotel from the port gate. We spent a relaxing day using all the facilities. Beach towels were provided by the hotel and we had use of the sunbeds around the pool and on the beach. The day pass also included an Eat As Much As You Like Buffet Lunch - I have never seen such variety and it was delicious). It was excellent value at 90 Dirhams (about £15). MUSCAT - This is another port which I have visited before - I did the organised Mystical Muscat Tour which included a visit to the mosque there the Muttrah Souk, the Bait Al Zubair Museum and the Sultan's Palace. On this occasion I met up with a friend who is now living in Oman. She took me on a panoramic tour into the mountains. We stopped for lunch at the Al Bustan Palace Hotel before going to the Marina and Diving Centre where she and her husband have a small boat - unfortunately we did not have time to take the boat out but we relaxed on board and admired the scenery. KHASAB - One of the Roll Call members kindly offered to arrange a private tour with Khourshem Tours for a half day Dhow Cruise. This was a most enjoyable trip and it was fun to see the dolphins swimming alongside the dhow as we sped through the clear waters. We weighed anchor and were able to swim and snorkel (equipment provided). We were given free drinks and snacks on board and it was a relaxing experience and good value at 130 Dirhams each. DUBAI - I have seen a lot of the sights on my previous visits. My recommendations would be: The Burj Khalifa - do book in advance in order to ensure a time slot and also to save money - in advance 100 Dirhams but on the day 400 Dirhams, if you can get in. An ideal time to go up the Burj is mid-late afternoon and then you can make your way to the Dancing Fountains show (start around 6.30pm and are every half hour). A good view of this spectacular display can be seen from the balcony of TGIFridays and the meal will be a lot cheaper there than in the pricey restaurants at ground level. I would also recommend a visit to the Mall of The Emirates to be amazed by the Ski Resort there the Dubai Mall to see the huge Aqaurium, a visit to The Atlantis Hotel on the Palm, where you can swim with the dolphins, have fun in the Water Park or just enjoy the ambience of the hotel. A Dhow Dinner Cruise is interesting and of course there are the shopping malls, the gold souk and the spice souk to wander around. There are Hop On Hop Off Buses operating in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Muscat but you do need lots of time to complete the whole routes as traffic congestion can be a problem in getting around. Taxis are very reasonable but do agree a price first if you want to arrange any kind of tour with the driver. In Abu Dhabi a driver wanted to charge me 150 Dirhams to go to the Emirates Palace Hotel. I did not know how far it was but haggled nevertheless and got the price down to 60. I did not realise it was not an official taxi but a private tour company. When I arrived at the hotel the driver wanted to wait for me and take me to other sights (for a fee) but I stood my ground and said I did not know how long I would be at the afternoon tea and he drove away. The taxi the hotel arranged for me to return to the port cost just 22 Dirhams - lesson learned. Whilst on board I purchased a voucher costing 10 Euros which lasts for 18 months and gives discounts and special offers on a future cruise. MSC will be sailing from Dubai again for the Winter 2014/2015 season and they will be using MSC Orchestra for these cruises and this ship will then sail from Dubai to Freemantle (33 days cruise) on 21st Feb 2015. As children travel free with MSC and my family are keen to take a cruise we decided to take advantage of the voucher and my discounts as a previous MSC passenger and we have already booked for 4th Feb next year. I am looking forward to seeing more wonderful sights in the ports of call. I thoroughly enjoyed my cruise on MSC Lirica and cannot wait for next year to sail on Orchestra. If you have not visited the United Arab Emirates I can highly this cruise - you will not be disappointed. Read Less

On a random visit to our Travel Agents to check out something different for a holiday in February we were offered an attractive cruise deal with MSC Lirica to UAE. This included two extra nights stay in a four star hotel in Dubai with transfers between both, on board spending money and an attractive drinks package, so we set out on this cruise with an open mind having previously had three previous excellent enjoyable cruises with P&O (1) and Princess (2). We were not to be disappointed with our choice. Well of course, just like you are doing now, we read the cruise reviews to see what we could expect and would wish to make the following observations following earlier comments: Yes, check-in procedures were very slow due to large passenger numbers arriving at the same time, but we were immediately allowed on to the ship and had access to our rooms at 10 o’clock in the morning. Yes, the ship is dated and tired looking but the cleanliness throughout could not be faulted. There were more than enough staff cleaning, tidying and keeping the ship spotless. Yes, the Cruise Director was very tiring which his introductions in four different languages but the overall entertainment was of a high standard, the best we’d experienced anywhere. The Hollywood musicals show was very good and The Michael Jackson tribute was superb although I was expecting more from the Frank Sinatra experience on the last night. The Assistant C D made a point of mixing and meeting with us and should be promoted to CD immediately. Yes, the shore excursions are limited but we would highly recommend using the free shuttle bus to the Oceanic Hotel in Khor Al Fakkan and ensure you pay a very small sum for a sumptuous lunch. Well worth having. Yes, some of the staff appeared disinterested and were not overly eager to be polite and helpful but we found our restaurant waiter (Wira) and cabin steward to be exemplary. Extra waiters could however be employed in the bar areas though to cut long waiting times. Yes, the food is not what we are used to but we were on an Italian ship so had to adjust accordingly. There was plenty to eat although with first sitting in the restaurant it meant we were hurried on two nights to finish up quickly and leave ready for the next sitting to arrive. This précis is not intended to be derogatory as overall we enjoyed ourselves immensely and had a lovely break. Every-one we spoke to appeared to be having a good time with few complaints amongst them. We met some fantastic fellow cruisers who we shall keep in touch with in the future. Without being pedantic our one small gripe arrived on the very last day. Along with one other couple, we were due to be picked up by mini bus from our luxury hotel at 6.30 am and driven to the airport for our onward journey. At 7.00 am and no sign of any transport or information to the contrary we had to hastily make our own arrangements to ensure we arrived in good time for a 9.30 am flight. I will be contacting MSC for an explanation, would I cruise with MSC again, Yes, maybe but only if I get a satisfactory response. I would be happy to answer any questions if you will be travelling on this ship soon.   Read Less
