Me and my friends decided to take a Mediterranean cruise, we’ve taken a few Caribbean’s ones, and this cruise was terrible only good thing was the itinerary. I was in a different room and right when I walked in it smelled like fumes, went to my friends room. The floor was filthy, so we went straight to guest services, they did not care at all, throughout the duration we complained multiple times and different people came to our rooms but still both was done. Msc’s Guest service does not care about customer service. They were extremely rude. I had to pay a bit extra for their “Fantastica” option. There was barley any food options. I paid to much money for it to just be a ripoff in the end. Don’t ever take this cruise line. There is no entertainment on board whatsoever, and entertainment on a cruise ship is very important. That was for a disappointment. The gym was very weak, four treadmills, four bikes and four ellipticals, yea because on a big cruise that makes real sense. There was even a wait limit how ridiculous, Food sucks, most of the workers are rude and don’t know a thing. One worker who was on the clock(mind you) in the buffet was very racist to me and my friends for no reason, never experienced so much hatred and rudeness from a cruise in my life. Such a waste of money and such a disappointment. Thank goddess for the ports of call only good thing about the week. I will never cruise with this line ever again. Read Less

My first cruise , so wanted a short "try it out" type holiday.Embarkation, was a nightmare , 31/2 hours of queueing to get on board and very little information as to what to do and where to go next. The ship itself was ok, though lacked the grandeur of MSCs larger ships, Our cabin, an ocean view fantastica, was very nice , clean and roomy enough for the two of us, well equipped and comfortable. Dining was shocking with portions in the restaurant tiny and almost always served luke warm to cold. the second sitting at dinner was at 9 pm and the service was slow , so we ended up not leaving the dining room most nights till after 11pm. The buffet wasn't much better with zero organisation it was , to say the least chaotic and very disappointing. We had prebooked gluten free for my partner and whilst this was available, with a dedicated specialist waiter, the selection was very poor and the same every night. Entertainment was poor, As an entertainer with 30 years experience in the industry, I was shocked and surprised at the low budget fayre on offer; the theatre shows lasted about 30 minutes and where average holiday camp animation team type affairs. the lounge music was diabolical with duos using laptops and faking playing the guitar to pre recorded karaoke tracks. The only highlight was a very good South African guitar /vocalist in the pub/smokers lounge. on the whole the service was ok if a little slow. our cabin steward was excellent and the drinks waiters where great, though the dining room staff where clearly overwhelmed by the sheer weight of numbers. Our first two ports, Zadar and Kotor where great, however , Koper and Ravenna where uninteresting Read Less

Very tacky. Most of the service was terrible. This is not good value for money. There was absolutely nothing to do on the boat. My shore excursion was cancelled due to lack of people. Also there is no sports area at all so unless you’re into power walking around 2 pools then you’re out of luck. There is hardly anything in there minuscule shopping by centre. There is nothing on the TV. If I could I would rate the gym I would say -1 star. Do not travel with MSC as they are selling you a ton of lies. There are one or two good things I could say however. The beds are comfortable and reasonably large. The theatre is a great experience and is well done. There is a vast range of places to eat/have drinks. To summarise I would say that MSC are definatly not the best cruise company I have travelled with by a long shot. Read Less

Chose this cruise to help us unwind from a very stressful nine months due to illness, what a mistake that was ,certainly not due to weight gain as the food on offer was diabolical I had porridge every day as couldn't eat fry up over cooked streaky bacon broccoli or cauliflower with beans eggs and various sausage tastes'Toast brick hard and cold, Entertainment not to our taste most nights and felt sorry for the poor ventriloquist who had to speak and answer in several different languages so fell flat " The ship itself was lovely spotless and brilliant friendly staff if you took the time to talk to them. But nothing to do onboard unless you wanted to learn to dance on the pool deck. Would not recommend to friends mainly due to food choices Lhama stew and Leek and potato soup with mussels and clams ,I pt on just over 3 lbs in the three weeks and I'm sure it was the last two days when we ate onshore to make sure we were full . This cruise had a brilliant itinerery but was let down by both food and entertainment on the ship. The food was of not very good quality in either restaurant or in buffet. If you liked fish you would be ok as it was cooked in just about every way you could think of and ways you have'nt heard of. It didn't even look like fish as most of time either in oil, batter or mixed in something. Salads were couscous based and same salami cheese and lettuce every day. On a good note soups were alright up until last day when we got potato and leek soup with clams and mussels. Never heard of this before. Pizza, fries and gravy saved the day most of the time. Sweets were the best it was only hot food that no one could seem to cook properly. The crew as you would expect were brilliant and we made friends and would banter with them on daily basis. Cabins were ample for what you need storage, furnishings and bed, that was very comfy. The lady that looked after our room was great and looked after us daily. The ship is very nice, clean and very easy to get round but entertainment was not best. Pianos, opera singers ok if you like that sort of thing. Alison the lady doing port info was very good. The shows because of about 8 different languages very limited what they could do on stage. The variety shows were ok but mostly opera and classical on in theatre at night. We used msc trips twice and both were very well organised and worth money but the ship seems to be a bit disorganized. Getting off ship was a nightmare. Would we go again. NO Read Less

We read the negative reviews prior to booking. I really don't take much notice of them. How wrong we were. We booked because of the itinerary, lots of places we wanted to visit. Not much to add to many other negative reviews. The overall on board experience was dreadful. Frustrating to miss 2 of our desired ports Sir bani yas & Piraeus (Athens). Of course MSC did not refund port charges even though they substituted a port for the 2 missed..We travelled as a group of 3 couples. Have to agree with others about food, endless announcements in 6 languages. Staff seemed disengaged except for bar staff & coffee shop. Positives..... Embarkation exceptional. MSC gives you status match which was good. Loved the music played when we left ports. Coffee (if you had the beverage package or paid for it) was great. Guest relations desk well manned 24 hrs a day. WOW that's not much. Negatives to add.... Guest relations desk apart from about 2 people who were brilliant, the rest seemed clueless. We were charged for drinks which should have been included in our beverage package. We had signed for 0 charge but they still charged us. Luckily we had the receipt. When we went to challenge this we were told it was our mistake. Eventually resolved but took a lot of discussion. Poor drainage in bathroom shower, eventually resolved. Daily program often not delivered to our cabin until 10pm or 11pm. European travellers were farewelled by the captain with a handshake while the non-Europeans exited through a different area in Venice. No water in dining rooms.....they want you to buy water!!! B2B in Venice....couldn't get off the ship for hours, no communication, huge levels of frustration from all of us. My list goes on but that's enough to add. We have an excellent Travel Manager who organised for us to meet with the local MSC state manager which we did. She seemed horrified about our experience & will give MSC our feedback. Still waiting. MSC has a good product will airfares & hotels bundled. Their itineraries are amazing. I think their bigger ships would be totally different from the small ships. MSC would need to come back to us with very good compensation for us to travel with them again. Read Less

I chose this cruise for the ports visited and I was not disappointed. The ship was clean and staff willing to please. The cabin steward was awesome. Bella Experience did not provide a robe and there is a delivery charge for breakfast in your room. These items were provided free when I sailed last year with Holland America in the cheapest accommodation. The entertainment was very good. Breakfast was always good but the food was not up to par for a cruise ship. For example: At the buffet - turkey served at the hot station was not a roasted bird but a turkey roll and ham was just this side of spam. Cheesecake ordered in the dining room. Mouse was delivered. If you wanted water with your dinner - you had to buy it. Now all this is not an enormous problem as I always found something to eat but I had some concerning issues re cleanliness in the dining room. -Companions appetizer plate removed leaving a black ring on the tablecloth -My desert plate removed leaving plate size blob of someone else's desert on the tablecloth -Red stain on tablecloth at first sitting -During down time a waiter at his station would stand with hands clasped over the zipper area of his pants and then rummage for silverware or carry plates. He was the only one I observed doing this consistently but in the end decided that I may be safer eating at the buffet. Unless this was the only cruise line plying ports of call I wished to visit, I will not sail with MSC again. Read Less

I am going to try to explain my experience as well as I can because my english is not excellent. We chose this cruise because of the lenght and the country visited. My son and Husband wantd to know Dubai and Abu dhabi, and I wanted to visit India. We normally do a cruise per year, and we promissed not to do anymore cruises with italian companies, but we had no choices. Our expectastions were not high and we made our mind that the most important for us woud be the countries. We also booked an inside room as our opinion is to save money for other activities. talking about savings.... when you buy a cruise I am sure sometime you get offered some packages for drinks. We normaly never buy them as we do not drink that much. We nearly got it for this cruise thinking that it was a 15 days cruise and it might be worth to get a package. NO. THE DIFFERENCE IS TERRIBLE. With a package we were asked for about 400 euros by adults + 200 euros per kid. That makes about 1.000 euros. and there is a condition that says that you can only have drinks that cost under 6euros in the menu. let say for exemple you want to have a cup of wine, but that wine cost 10 euros on the menu.... well.... it wont be included in your package. we paid for drinks an average of 30 euros per day for all of us! Teas , coffee and water are offered for free 24h. When the boat stops in a country you spend whole day out. every dinner we had our bottle of wine + water.... we saved more than 50% on the package price!!!!! Coming back to our experience, it was extremely disappointing in general. The first table we got in the dinning room was a very small table for 2 against a wall with a big column where we were supposed to sit 3. we had no choice than having dinner there that night as we would change table the day after. on that 1st night, some wines were already sold out from the menu. the table was awfully dressed, different size of cups, some mini plates for olive oil that we are still waiting to get, knives missing, some tables with plates for breads, dirty napkin... than the food arrived.... OH DEAR! what a shame! no presentation at all, portions extra minis, no taste... awfull! I have ordered some steamed salmon.... It was as dry as a shoe sole! size of the loin: 7x2cm. We thought it was the first night, so we gave the kitchen another oportunity to surprise us. Next morning: breakfast.... not that bad for the 1st breakfast. but.... it has been THE SAME BREAKFAST, WITH EXACTELY THE SAME FOOD offer during the 15 days of cruise! well.... let see what happened on the 24th of December. Christmas night. we ordered some scallops.... guess what..... 1,5cm diameter each.... and guess how many units??? 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wououuuwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! than we ordered some lobster tail. guess what...... 5cm long by 1,5cm.... my husband ordered the "Selection of international" Cheese.....yes sure, cheese were international : GOUDA. and yes it was a selection of different gouda.... but it was exactely the SAME GOUDA WE HAD DURING 15 DAYS FOR BREAKFAST! but we were lucky as instead of sliced it came cut in smal cubes. wouwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally the dessert: Pannetone (italian cake). we found strange our waiter asked us if we would like some chocolate sauce on the top of it. we finally understood why.... if you dont have the sauce you choke on! Mediterranean dinner.... we thought... good... we might have something nice. my son ordered some Gazpacho (tipical cold tomato soup from Spain). have you ever seen a soup you can eat with a fourk? IN MSC Lirica YES! (check picture). It was also soooooo spicy and hot that we could not even eat half. I have ordered some "bouillabaisse" which is a tipical french fish and sea food.... just awful as it was seemd to be done from those powder you just have to add oh water on the top.... My other picture is supposed to be a "tarte tatin". It was simply a roasted apple with some cream. Please, appreciate the decoration of the plate. It is work of art!!!!! I took a picture of the "Apple French Mille feuille". If you cant find it, it is absolutly normal as instead of the "mille feuille" I got something similar to a "yellow jelly". We all tried it, it was terrible. By the way.... the new year buffet was absolutely pathetic. poor. no qulity food. and..... THE SAME GOUDA WE HAD FOR BREAKFAST!!!! wouwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lets move forward from the food.... teen club and it´s team. I have never meat someone so unfriendly. The tean club was sometimes closing before time because the girl responsible of the activities was "tired". she was super anthipatic and not nice at all. shows were not that nice either. bored. Waiters work in hard conditions in the dinning room. There is actually NO SPACE for them to walk around the tables. Service is slow. We were lucky to have a good waiter. He was actually the only person we gave tips in the boat. Oh... by the way..... the tips.... as you might know, some cruise companies charge you the tips directly onto your account and the payment is mandatory. In MSC it is charged onto your bill thatyou pay at the end of the cuise. the good thing is that you can ask NOT TO PAY the tips. Bear in mind also that everytime you buy sometjing on the shipt you are charged 15% for SERVICE CHARGES. we have decided not to pay tips and we personally gave to people who really deserved it (our waiter, his second, and our room maid). in general we found people rude, sometime unhelpful. I cannot talk about the excursions as we did not use them. We organise our own excursions and we discover much more options by ourselves. the only thing I can tell, is that the prices of excursions on the boat are abusives. We could have taken more pictures during the cruise as the dinners were really "funny" every day, but we didi not want to spend more time with this issue. Never again with MSC! Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary and the price. What we have come to realize is that what comes with lower cost is terrible customer service. Basically, when you have an issue that needs to be addressed, they really don’t care. I have to say the cabin stuard and dinning staff were excellent, as well as Bruno, the buffet manager. But to the rest, we felt like we were an inconvenience, including the customer service desk, which is an oxymoron. They even tried to convince us that it’s normal for the toilet not to flush. Maybe she assumed this was our first cruise and wouldn’t know any better. They promised to have someone look into it but never did. So it was basically press the button 5 or 6 times and pray. The food varied from day to day; sometimes ok, other times not really. The itinerary is awesome and Oman is easily the best stop. Make sure to explore here as much as possible. We rented an SUV and stayed ashore overnight and were so glad we did. Do not miss driving up Wadi Arbaeen starting from Dibab. Read Less

We cruised from Venice to Dubai via the Suez Canal for seventeen nights in an inside cabin, mid-ships, on a re-positioning cruise with MSC in November 2018. We have cruised before but this was our first experience of MSC. Facts The passengers were predominantly Italian, German, Spanish, French and Portuguese with a minority of British. There were two European and two US electrical sockets in the cabin. There were lots of drawers, shelves and hanging space for storage. It was easy to obtain extra coat hangers and extra pillows from our cabin steward. There was good storage space under the bed for empty cases. There was a stocked mini-bar in the cabin. There was a wall mounted bottle of body wash and shampoo in the shower which was refilled during the cruise and liquid soap at the basin. No conditioner, body lotion or bars of soap were provided. There was a wall-mounted, hose-type hair dryer in the bathroom. The small TV had a limited number of English speaking channels including BBC News, CNN and Sky news. Some films were played on a loop but most were not in English. The TV had an HDMI socket which you could use to connect your devices with your own cable. There was a large wet play area with padded floor for kids on deck 11, two swimming pools with ladder access, shallow sections for kids and two small Jacuzzi’s. Pools were initially cool but warmed up as we traveled south. There were lots of sun loungers and some high back reclining chairs around the pools and on the 12th deck but often, on a sea days, these were filled. Pros The cabin was compact but clean. The air conditioning was easy to adjust and was effective. The bed was firm and very comfortable. The sound-proofing in the cabins was generally good. Theatre entertainment was generally good with a wide variety of styles ranging from slapstick to high brow classical music. Disembarkation was fast and easy. Cons Embarkation slow and shambolic with unfriendly, unhelpful MSC staff. The shower in the en-suite was extremely compact and had a shower curtain rather than a solid door. This made showering in such a small space without flooding the floor quite challenging. The service in the main restaurant was slow, unfriendly and the food was cold until we complained. Thereafter the service improved and the food was served hot. The food was generally rather bland and uninteresting. Portion sizes were generally small. Our pre-arranged restaurant coffee package was refused on two evenings. Other guests sat in our allocated table one evening early in the cruise and we had to stand around for five minutes while the staff decided what to do. We were then asked to move table for the rest of the cruise. Breakfast food in the main restaurant was never hot and service was unfriendly and slow. The drinks call bells on the buffet restaurant tables were only answered 50% of time. Buffet tables were not wiped effectively. The buffet food choice was poor and food was not hot. Hand sanitizers throughout the ship often did not work and MSC staff did not encourage passengers to use them. Waiting staff and others did not give way to guests when passing in narrow corridors. It felt like some would have knocked you down if you hadn’t stepped aside to allow them to pass. TV reception was poor/non-existent for about seven days in and around the Red Sea. It took a week to resolve an intermittent faulty lock on our cabin door. There was no warning prior to theatre shows regarding the use of strobe lighting. Passports were retained by MSC on embarkation and only returned the night before disembarkation. Passport return arrangements were a shambles with too few MSC staff, leading to huge queues. Poolside entertainment was much too loud for customers not wishing to take part. The sun loungers had very low backs which did not allow for head support. Our MSC loyalty scheme status match to Black status was not initially honoured and it took multiple visits to the loyalty desk over two weeks to resolve. We therefore missed out on some Black benefits. Loyalty staff and reception staff did not seem interested in resolving this. MSC were very poor at communicating port of call arrangements. E.g. at Salalah in Oman, the literature said a shuttle bus would take us from the ship to the "main square". We were actually dropped off at a taxi rank at the exit of the port where there was absolutely nothing to see or do other than take a taxi. There was no signage or crew direction to where we were to collect our luggage after disembarkation. We enjoyed the itinerary and the weather was very good however having previously sailed with Royal Caribbean, Princess, P&O and TUI which all offered a far superior experience; this will be our first and last MSC cruise. Many of the other British passengers we spoke to agreed with this sentiment. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary and the exceptionally good pricing. We arrived in Venice 2 days prior to cruise embarkation to find the city Flooded. Embarkation process on 2 November was disappointing. We were asked to produce our passports by 4 different MSC personnel but we are not sure what valued added each person contributed if anything. Later when we were allowed to go to our cabins we got our cruise card. We had purchased a drinks package prior to embarkation(2 Months prior) but when we first tried to get a drink we were told our card was not annotated for a drinks package and so we made our first trip to the Reception Center where our cards were eventually corrected. We were travelling as a group of 30 and to MSC credit we had 5 tables together on first sitting dinner as we had requested. Guisseppe (Head Waiter) and Indra (our waiter) provided excellent service throughout the cruise but there are not enough staff in the dining room to handle the amount of customers and therefore service tended to be slow to non existent often times. One trip to the Buffet was proof that we never wanted to see that facility aGAIN. The facility was over crowded resulting in long waits to get a table. For some reason MSC only open one side of the Buffet restaurant at a time. this results in long lineups, pushy customers, line jumpers and inevitably cold food. Bar service in the Buffet seemed to be non existent unless you horse collared a waiter. Waiters seemed to believe that their only job was to collect dirty dishes. Cabins were small but well organized and clean. Cabin attendant reasonably responsive. My complaint with housekeeping is the inordinate amount of time that the housekeeping carts clogged up the narrow passageway. Although necessary with the European consist of the passengers the announcements in six languages became an annoyance. The daily program was a joke. Program was basically the same every day of the cruise. Program provided next to no port information. The info that was provided was slanted to try andd sell MSC shore excursions rather than to provide an information service.. During our visit to Aqaba the site at Petra was subject to flash flooding which caused people to be very late in returning to the buses for the return to Aqaba. MSC handled this exigency very well and the ship left Aqaba a little over 3 hours late. Our group did not use the Ship[ Shore Excursions as they were expensive. Taxis or Shared Vans resulted in costs less than half of what the shore excursions would have cost but this is typical of most cruise lines. Most of the Port calls were very interesting. The Exceptions being Sallalah and Khasab. In particular Khasab has no redeeming qualities that would make it worthy of a future stop. In my view these two stops could have been eliminated and Safaga added to the itinerary. This would have made this trip much more attractive Sadly MSC seems to focus on procedures to make it easier for the crew rather than on procedures to enhance the customer Experience. Staff shortages throughout the Customer service areas contributed greatly to the poor impressions of this ship. It is NOT likel;y that we will use MSC again and even less likely that we will recommend MSC to others. Read Less

We chose this cruise for the itinerary. (Venice, Greece, Dubrovnik) We have qa previously cruised on MSC Splendida and MSC Preziosa and were very impressed with both of them. The Lirica, however, was very disappointing. The ship itself was beautiful, clean and bright. The food was, at best, lukewarm, but often cold. The only things that were always hot was the coffee and the soup! The buffet was the usual hectic, fast food, cafeteria with limited choice and limited seating. Drinks service in the buffet was almost non existent. It involved ringing a bell on your table and waiting for someone to come and take your order, which often meant a long wait and even finishing your meal without a drink. They ran out of butter before the end of the cruise. Service in the bars and lounges was also very poor, with sometimes a 20 minute wait for drinks to arrive. It felt as if there was a lack of staff, and the staff that were there seemed a bit clueless, as if it was their first cruise. A few of them didn’t even speak or understand English. The daily entertainment was very “Butlins” and loud and annoying. We did enjoy the evening shows in the theatre, but found it very distracting that people were just walking in at any time during the show. Surely the doors should be closed once the show starts and no one else allowed in. All in all, we did enjoy the cruise, but mainly because of the itinerary and the weather. However, we are now not sure whether we would use MSC again. If we did, it would be on one of the larger ships, where the service was much better. Read Less

We booked this cruise as it fit our travel dates and destinations but what a MISTAKE! This cruise is really just for Europeans and rude ones at that. The cruise staff just did not seem happy at all. They were argumentative at times and did not want to hear your comments. We paid for the Aurea Package which was the "all inclusive" drinks etc. So we get on board and go to the bar to order a drink - sorry sir/madam you can only have water! So we have to go the reception desk and wait in line with a lot of other people who were having issues also with our paperwork which was lucky that I printed our before we left home. This clearly stating that we had the all inclusive package. Sorted - no. Go to a bar that night and order a cocktail and are told that this in not included in this drinks package - what part of all inclusive is this? Anyway go back to the reception desk and this time get the supervisor who informs us that there are 2 type of all inclusive - ours and a premium one. This girl was just so horrible that we left and went back to our cabin. In the morning we demanded to speak to her boss who was lovely and sorted this all our for us - The cabin on this ship was lovely - cannot fault that - the cabin steward kept it really clean and tidy and there is plenty of room to more around - Dining was not good at all. Food was generally served cold and not a very good menu. We have anytime dining but this is not actually true as most of the passengers had already booked their tables (in the prime spots) on the first night leaving the rest of us just getting whatever was left. It just seemed to be unfair. Entertainment was the worst and most ridiculous I have ever experienced. Most times we just walked out - once they had a man crawling around screaming. The service from our dining waiter and one of the bars was great as was our cabin steward but most other could not care less. You do not get served sitting at the tables you have to go the bars and order yourself. Its quite bad. The ports were also not that great. Seemed that this ship got the worst and further away from the docks. From the bus transport from Venice to the port should have been a warning sign for us - we were not told anything just follow the girl - this was a long way from the airport to the bus with our suitcases and several older people were really struggling. Then no communication = get to the port and we had to get our own luggage from the bus and once again walk it to the terminal. On other cruises this would have been done for you. Also, on the compulsory demo re the lifejackets - the staff on the boat did not enforce this at all - the announcements only came one and the only way we knew about it was we saw other people doing it. But this ship had to do this exercise 3 times as passengers just kept on ignoring. I would not recommend this cruise line at all - its basically aimed only at Italian and other Europeans. They make announcements in so many languages that it just goes on and one for ages and you forget what it was about in the first place. Read Less

Below is a recap of my recent trip: Service: The cabin stewart barely cleaned our room. I had a breakfast plate and orange juice sit in my room from 10:00am- 11:00pm. We inquired about laundry service for steaming for formal night and instead of helping us he ignored the request for 2-3 days then gave us a laundry bag that day of formal night. Our waiters were horrible, did not even take the time to know our name and were even friendly. I am not sure that is a European thing since I am american but they were rude and often forgot some of our food. Dining: MSC has the worst food I have ever tasted in my life. I have never been hungry on a cruise before until I cruised on MSC. Let's talk about tap water first, do you know that you have pay for tap water on MSC? I was applauded, there was no tap water in the dining areas. You had to purchase a bottle of water if you wanted water. What a scam! The food overall was disgusting with the exception of the pizzeria. The dining room kept recycling the same risotto by adding a different sauce every night. Steak, forget about that you got a thin slice of beef that was eat, lobster on formal night none, salad was wet with little dressing and desert was just gross. The buffet was not any better, we were on a Mediterranean cruise why not feature the food from the ports we were visiting? I did most of my eating off the ship. Embarkation: Entertainment: The animation team was fun and threw some great parties so I do not have anything bad to say about them. The "theater" actors/dancers walked around with a chip on their shoulders looking down on passengers. I am sorry did you not make it to Broadway and your upset at the world please do not take it out on the passengers. The casino was okay, I wish it was a bit larger but the staff was nice. The night club was decent but filled with teenagers at 2:00am which was disappointing. Spa: The spa was the biggest joke, they were often heard arguing with passengers because they overbooked people. I made an appointment for a hot stone massage and was left in the waiting area for 20 minutes and then approached by a staff member asking why I had not checked in. When I informed them I did and my cruise card was behind the register they were scrambling to make my appointment happen. I wound up getting a 30 minute massage instead 55 minutes with a 20 minute express facial. Did I mention the stones burned my body? Too bad I noticed after we got off the ship. Shore Excursions: We went on a Santorini excursion which was great which included a trip to the black send beach, a nice lunch with real greek food and a cable car up to the top of the mountains. I was disappointed that we only stayed in Mykonos later that night for 5 hours. I would have really like to spend more time there and possibly see it during the day. Croatia was amazing, it was really a hidden gem I didn't know about and I would definitely go back Summary: I would never cruise MSC again, I am going to stick to the cruise lines I love carnival, royal, princess, Norwegian and celebrity, Those lines provide excellent customer service, real food and treat you well. I tried to explain my issues in their after cruise survey, what a surprise since I was not speaking highly of the cruise in the survey would not allow me to finish. Read Less

This was our 2nd cruise and in all fairness I have come to the conclusion that my husband and I are just not cruise people. We went on the Lirica after spending time on a bus tour of Turkey and 5 nights in Venice, these places were such a highlight of our trip, but our dream cruise of Croatia and the Greek a Islands was so disappointing. The Lirica is lovely ship and spotlessly clean and we were kindly upgraded from an outside cabin with balcony, to a suite. We appreciated the suite and although the upgrade didn't include all the bells and whistles we were very much appreciative of the extra space. The food was good, not great but was edible. We chose to eat mainly in the Dining Room as our experience in the bistro was brutal. The few times we ate in the Bistro area it was survival of the fittest, people shoving and pushing in and no cleared vacant tables. I really think that the lines for food could have been better organised as it is very frustrating to wait in line and have people constantly pushing in and not willing to take their turn. The tea and coffee station is located near an exit to the rear of the ship where the smokers can sit and causes nothing but congestion as people are entering and exiting where the coffee station is. There is certainly a language barrier on board the ship as no staff members or crew have English as their first language, we were given a daily information sheet in English but found communication with most on board very difficult. There is also too many smoking areas, the worse being a bar inside that non smokers need to walk through as a thoroughfare, not acceptable at all. Gratuities are added to you cruise card as well as a service charge , you have no control over who receives tips on your behalf and for all we know could just be lining the pockets of the MSC owners. Service was slow and sometimes orders were completely missed. Days at sea are just boring there is no other way to explain it, if you don't gamble at the Casino or want to be involved in silly childlike activities on the deck there is nothing to do. If by chance you can organise yourself to attend the nightly entertainment, be prepared after hanging around for 3 hours it lasts 30 minutes. We had the first sitting in the Dining Room at 6.45 pm so the only show time we could attend was 9.45 pm. On shore excursions are a rip off, one in particular was advertised at lasting 3 hours but failed to tell you 2 hours of that time was allocated to your free time. The itinerary stinks the ship travels slow to arrive in places and you are always rushed. We arrived at Ancona during siesta time, nothing was open an unable to shop all experience any of the tourist venues. We were misled on all our information regarding our visit to Mykonos and only spent a few hours there in the evening, such a disappointment. As you can see my husband and I were not impresses with our cruise experience and would never choose to cruise or recommend MSC. Read Less

First the good. The ship was spotlessly clean and the cabin was immaculate. The entertainment was very good. Now the bad. If this were our first cruise we would never do another one. The weather was inclement for the first few days which should be no big deal but the eating area for breakfast and lunch did not have sufficient space in protected areas so everyone just walked around with plates of quickly cooling food looking for somewhere to sit. The food in general was poor. The buffet food was worse. The hamburgers were green looking. The only edible item was pizza, which was good but a week of pizza every day gets old. Getting people on and off the ship was always a challenge. If you bought their overpriced excursions they treated you better. It was mostly chaos as if this was the first time they did it. Their schedule was stupid. For instance, we arrived at Mikonos at 10PM and left at 2AM. Such a pretty place. Too bad it was in the middle of the night when you couldn't see it and when most of the shops were closed. The service in the main dining room was poor. The food's descriptions on the menu was great. The execution was lousy. I just ordered everything and picked among the various dishes to get enough to eat. We have done the same Venice to Greek Islands on Costa. It was so much better. Read Less

This was our first cruise with MSC and sadly will be our last.  Getting on the ship was easy, the room was good a bit small but alright for a week. The food was excellent quality but a bit samey but then they cannot just pop out to the shops. The waiter in our restaurant was brilliant. The Entertainment was the best we have ever seen on a cruise ship, the bar staff were good but some would rather had not been there. The Reception was a total waste of space, we had our daily programme delivered in French on the first night so we went to them to get an English version and request an English one form then on, quite simple? not a chance everyday it was is in French despite a daily complaint, even on the last day the disembarkation information was given in French i asked for an English one as it was quite important, the Receptionist just said they've all gone and we haven't got any. Getting off the ship at some ports we asked for some basic local information again they just said, without moving their eyes from the computer screen, "outside only" that was the help offered. The room was kept clean but we did have two dirty glasses left for 4 days, on one occasion they were actually moved to another part of the cabin. At 7 am everyday we were woken by the constant loud chatter and shouting from the room cleaners. I gave our waiter an individual tip but for the first time ever we had the gratuities removed from our bill. They were were not geared up for the English and were not worth a tip. Sadly the Reception and some staff let down the rest of the crew. Read Less

To start on the positive, the ship was spotlessly clean and the waiting and cabin staff were excellent. Unfortunately there are no more positives. We have cruised a number of times and this was our worst experience. The bad experience started with embarkation. The pickup at the airport was good and we arrived at the ship just after 4pm. This is a cruise who embarks and disembarks at nearly every port. At this point there were only four of us to embark. We sat for over 50 minutes in the taxi while someone was found to let us on the ship. Dining - every cruise we have been on late sitting is about 8pm not here, it is 9.15pm, so we had the hassle of moving to the early sitting at 7pm. Breakfast in the dining room was okay, as was lunch. Dinner, however, was a different matter. We are not big eaters but found the portions small and the food was usually lukewarm. I asked for a glass of water and was told they provided bottled water. At the end of the meal I was presented with a bill for 2.65 Euros. I have never paid for water on a cruise. We were allowed to take our own water in, so filled a bottle at the buffet were it was free. Another problem was that we were expecting to pay in dollars not euros. It is a little complicated because the MSC brochure states that cruises in the Antilles is in Euros but that the Caribbean is in dollars. However the brochure also states that they do cruises to the Antilles and Antigua. I suppose we should have double checked but who expects a cruise line to differentiate between the Antilles and the Caribbean? We were given very little information about ports of call and it was the Maitre'd who told us that in Martinque the town closed at 2pm, we only arrived at 11am. Guadaloupe was worse as it was not until we got off the ship we found out that everything is shut on a Sunday, although there was a small market on the quayside. When the ship docked at a distance from the main area you then had the joy of paying 8 Euros for the shuttle bus. We also discovered this was new winter cruise for MSC Lirica and was definitely aimed at the French and Caribbean market. The majority of guests were French, Caribbean,Spanish and Italian. So beware as we found many guests were rude, from not saying thank you to stepping in front when you had waited patiently for the lift. Our cabin was adequate but be warned although there is a lovely view from 9004 unless you like to be awake early this is not the cabin for you. It impossible to sleep through clanging machinery and the pods being switched on for early morning docking! Read Less

If I said I was disappointed I would not be telling the truth. This holiday was a joke from the booking onward. Misinformation from jump is correct, wrong details about flight timings and dates, further deliberate errors about airlines and the ship's route. I didn't read any of the reviews in respect of MSC on purpose as I wanted to enjoy this experience with my daughter. I was wrong; I should have done so, and will always make a point of reviewing any holiday prior to booking, regardless what offers are presented. I will bullet point the issues which we faced, as follows:- - The Lirica which we were supposed to board in Abu Dhabi was not possible due to adverse weather conditions. This I seriously doubt was the case. I feel that Abu Dhabi was never going to be the embarkation point for any passengers, as the Lirica was not going to dock there. - I was disgusted with the attitudes of many of the staff on board. Some of the dining waiting & administration staff were seriously rude. Not the quality I expect to find on a cruise. - I thought the quality of the food was extremely poor. - Being told to hurry up and chose my menu option, was also ill mannered and unnecessary. I don't receive that type of behaviour in MacDonalds, receiving it on a cruise didn't seem appropriate either. - It appeared as if the Italian passengers were given preferential treatment. Announcements were often only given in Italian. Meetings were called for only the Italian passengers. - I had to ask about discounts for drinks. I purchased a non alcoholic book of vouchers and a cocktail book of vouchers. Many of the English speaking passengers were not privy to this scheme. - I found that just about every item purchased on board was liable for an additional 15% charge. Surely, I had already paid for the privilege of travelling on this cruise ship. - An additional charge of 15% on water & other beverages was ridiculous. - Alcohol was not permitted to be brought on board. - I also purchased a couple of 'designer' hand bags on board which have turned out to be 'fake'. I don't usually purchase fake goods, so please find that my disappointment in being fobbed off with such rubbish has been expressed as I have reported that matter, to the correct authorities. - I illustrated my disappointment with the additional charges and found that my debit card was not usable when leaving the ship. - I made an expensive call to my bank at the purser's desk when trying to pay my bill. Apparently my card was not usable, although my bank could not see anything going through. An offer was made to transfer funds directly into the ship's account yet the clerk at the desk refused. Instead I was made to appear foolish and attempts were made to embarrass me at the said desk. Please find that my bank also verified that I could easily pay the bill as it was stated. I was requested to hand over my passport which my details were read out and discussed at length. A coach full of passengers were kept waiting whilst this entire debacle was being administered. - The final port of call was supposed t have been Abu Dhabi. This didn't happen. Our final port of call was Dubai. A lot of time was wasted as we had a 2 hour transfer back to Abu Dabhi Airport. - To add insult to injury, no apology was given - Therefore a p take from start to finish A few of the passengers are in touch with each other and we are all unhappy about the treatment received on the Lirica. Where shall I start? From the moment we set foot on the ship at Abu Dhabi and found that my partner's preferred tipple - Cider - was not available and we weren't allowed to bring any alcohol on board to drink whilst we were there. The attitude of the serving staff was diabolical - no eye contact, no smiles, and they didn't even get out of your way! This attitude was also adopted by any crew who walked past - no eye contact, smile or greeting. MSC Lirica is an Italian owned ship and approximately 90 per cent of the passengers were Italian. Unfortunately, the food leant very much towards the Italian palate but the pasta was very disappointing. Other food was often tepid and there were no Arabian dishes on the menu - strange, as that was where we were sailing! Tea and coffee was served in blue, plastic mugs - very similar to children's, and the crockery in the Bistrot was all plastic! No maps were readily available when we docked, and a photocopy was given grudgingly when requested. A 15 per cent service charge is levied on every drink purchased on board (including water) and a 7 euro per day service charge is automatically added to the bill. I did complain to the Guest Relations Manager that we had not had the service to warrant such a charge, and after much discussion, this charge was taken off our bill. On the positive side, the evening entertainment was wonderful and one or two of the staff (chambermaid particularly) were extremely friendly and deserved the personal tip which we gave them at the end of the holiday. All in all, I would NOT recommend this ship or the MSC line to anyway and will NEVER, EVER use MSC again. Read Less

When we booked this cruise we were flying from Gatwick to Genoa, about 20 minutes transfer from the port. This was one of the deciding factors when picking this cruise as long transfers are really difficult for me. However, 9 days before we travelled we got the tickets and were informed that we were now flying from Heathrow into Milan Malpensa airport - 2.5 hours transfer time to the port. Need less to say we were not impressed! It is important to point out that we booked through Virgin Cruises, so it is not clear who was responsible for the fact that we only discovered the change 9 days before we sailed. However, the change was still unacceptable. Anyway, when we arived at Milan airport we were met by the MSC rep (very friendly) who informaed us that we would have an hour wait before we left as we were waiting for another 2 people on a later flight. Finally we arrived at the port and were directed to the boat in a rather haphazard manner. We received our room cards and were informed that we would be eating in the second sitting, even though we had requested 1st sitting. We were told to sort this out with reception, which we duly did. One of the receptionist was quite rude and was very quick to point out that 'requests cannot be guaranteed'. Luckily another receptionis (Lucia) was very polite and said we should go and see the restaurant manager who would probably be able to change it for us. This we did and we were indeed changed to 1st sitting with no problems. This bodes the question why were we not given the sitting we requested to start with??? What a pointless waste of time for everyone! On the plus side, the food and service at dinner was excellent, with them very helpfully accomadating my gluten free requirements. Also the evening entertainment (although at times resembling a trip to Butlins), was very good, especially the shows in the Broadway Theatre. Also the room was much bigger and nicer than I expected, with a comfortable, large bed and lots of storage space (including a safe and lots of hanging space). There was also a hairdryer, which was v handy. Unfortunately the staff at breakfast were not so friendly, in fact pretty indifferent I would say an the choice was a bit limited and got very boring by the end of the week. The 2 excursions we did were pretty good, although v expensive, and even coach transfers out of the port were very pricey. Just as we were beginning to think it wasn't too bad though, we got our instructions for leaving the boat on the last day. Essentially we were turfed off at 9:15am and transferred to the airport...even though our flight was not until 7pm. So, 7 hours in Milan Malpensa airport - what a marvellous end to the holiday!! Needless to say the good definitely did not out weight the bad on this trup so I would not travel with them again and I would discourage others from doing so either. Read Less

Firstly, we are not new to cruise holidays, in fact I would say our preferred choice of holiday for a lot of years has been a cruise. If this had been my first cruise,I would never take another one!! With the exception of the staff who serviced our cabin, I found the staff very uninterested, and lazy. We were a minority, and felt very "out" of things in lots of ways. I found the ship very expensive, and the excursions I can only describe as "RIP OFFS" In one port, they wanted 20 euros each, to take us into town.We used the local taxi boat service ,for 4 euros each. I have never been in a dining room before, where a fist fight broke out at the table next to us! But this was the women who were fighting, while there husbands sat and laughed at the spectacle!! Another passenger physically assaulted one of the tour guides, because she would not let him board the coach smoking a cigar! Him and his wife were carted away by the local police! In short, a disaster of a holiday,my first with an Italian line, and my last!! My wife and I both agree, that if we were offered another holiday with MSC, free of charge , we would refuse it!!! I could go on ,about the quality of the food etc.,but I would rather not remember it all!!! If you are an English speaker, and thinking of booking with MSC,think again!! Read Less

This is our second [AND LAST!!!] cruise with MSC, but we have taken over 3 dozen cruises, all told. First let's start with your review of the ship: nothing is prepared at tableside-not risotto, nothing. Their only claim to fame, is the pasta made for lunch outside every day. But I digress: let's start with the children. We were told [by staff] that kids are free and they were everywhere. Usually not a problem, except these yelled, screamed, cried & carried on with no control from their parents [or anyone else (again told by staff they were 'Italian')], literally all day long. Smoking=know we were in Europe [we were actually there a week before the cruise], but passengers ignored smoking restrictions everywhere, they smoked whenever and wherever they wanted=again no help from MSC. Rudeness was rampant-things are different in Europe, but this seemed more than usual, cutting in on lines, in the elevators, etc. The food was mediocre, at best. Almost all the buffets were cold by the time you got to them. Service was almost nonexistent-waiters forgot food, who got what, to bring what was requested, to ask if your meal was good [and there was little supervision of help]. Service [LACK OF IT] seemed the order of the cruise. The employees attitude seemed to be 'not my job' and I can't/won't help you. Example-if you didn't take a ship's excursion, you were not supplied with any inforamtion about the port you were in, none. And if you asked, were told I don't know. Instead of trying to be helpful, the crew was actually an obstacle; shops didn't wait on you, etc. The crusie staff seemed more interested in talking among themselves, than serving the passengers. MSC Lirica 29th March 2010- 5th April 2010 We recently went on the MSC cruise above and were extremely disappointed and let down by MSC and the Lirica staff. Listed below were some of the problems:- • Embarkation was totally disorganised with only one scanner out of three working • During the cruise children were allowed to run around the ship unsupervised without the ship crew intervening. • Outside our room, 10066 we had children continually running up and down the corridor. • When in our cabin there was continual noise from the pool area above and the sound on the ceiling of children running backwards and forwards • We were unable to use the Jacuzzi at any time as it was always full of children and teenagers • At lunchtime, in both restaurants, it was like a rugby scrum. There were too many adults and children and not enough tables, and after waiting in line we had to eat our meal on a table with uncleared meals • When the ship departed from Genoa it was supposed to stop at Portofino, but this was cancelled • General communication on the boat was very poor • At a number of ports at which we called, passengers were embarking and disembarking and at these times we could not use some of the lounge areas. • There was very poor customer service and a general feeling that staff were not interested • A number of English shore tours were cancelled due to insufficient English speakers • On leaving the ship the coach to the airport had enough seats but not enough room for every ones case, so the two of us were left alone waiting at the port for the coach to return. We were informed after 25 minutes that the motorway was blocked and the coach might not get back to the dock. We needed to get to the airport to catch our plane. An MSC representative gave us the choice of waiting in the hope the coach would turn up or get a taxi. We were told by the representative that we would have to pay and try and claim the 25 Euros back from MSC. This was terrible customer service. The final straw was that we had a stomach bug on the last day of the cruise causing sickness and diarrhoea. When we left the ship we were not well but the ship's doctor was very helpful and gave medication. In summary, the holiday was a continuing series of bad service where children were allowed to run wild. Read Less
