Alaska is a great destination for sure. Our family had a great time during our vacation - we took both the land trip and the cruise. The destinations and the ports are all awesome! We have made some great memories. During the land trip, the train ride is great. Also during the cruise the glacier bay experience was breathtaking The cruise itself was 'meh'. If you have a young family, like we did, it was not fun while you are on the ship. The activities for the kids is lacking as compared to other cruise lines that I have taken. While the production shows was good, the other things were not as great. Towards the latter part of the cruise, we actually stopped going to the actives and spent time doing our own things. The food is good. Note the timings though. Some of the wait staff were really nice and went above and beyond. Take a few shore excursions to enjoy the natural beauty. We took a few and it was worthwhile. Bottomline, loved the vacation/destination. But not the cruise experience. Read Less

Chose because of itinerary. Ship needs to be refurbished, food was not up to Princess standards and neither was the service. Loved the ports, but would cruise on a newer ship. Entertainment poor except for comic one night. Cruise Director not very engaging. Grandson loved it, met new friends. The meals in the main dining room were certainly not enticing to teens. Taking us from port to port the ship served its purpose. When sailing through Glacier Bay not enough narrative before entering to explain how long we would be there. Glacier Bay was breathtaking and just awesome, would have loved some hot coffee or hot chocolate to be served on the outside decks. I guess this crew and service staff just weren’t into going that extra mile for the passengers. The cruise made wonderful memories and lasting impressions of Alaska, but Alaska did that it had nothing to do with the ship. Read Less

This was in the planing for a few years, as it was a very spacial cruise for us to celebrate my husband turning 70,I was turning 65 two major mile stones in our life, also we were married 45 years also a major mile stone , I also retired, these were all very important mile stones in our life ,we were very disappointed in that this was told to travel agent and to princess and we were not shown anything for our celebrations,e.g. people had posters on there doors ,also others told us they received a voucher from princess. we also noticed that our cabin person didn't do the towels any more, like on our previous cruses,it was always a surprise to come back to your room and wonder what they had arranged this time with the towels. nothing felt special on this cruise . We both as many other people we spoke to that the shower recess appears much smaller than on other ships,we were constantly flooding the bathroom as you had no room to move in the shower, you constantly were hitting your arms on the hand rail and if you washed your feet you hurt your self on the tap all the time .I think this is the smallest shower we have been in on all seven cruises The shows were only two and the comedian was not that good . Bingo has now become to expensive to play on board the ship . It's now become electronic and you are at a disadvantage playing unless you have an electronic pad , as every one who won were the ones with electronic pads , this is not right either everyone is given an electronic pad ,this means you need quiet a few, or all have paper bingo and make the playing field an even one .If this is a non profit bingo games then why is it now so expensive to play a game ? We wanted to use the pool but the children that were on the cruise took over both pools and all the spas that if you were in there you could not talk to the person next to you for the noise and diving bombing of the children, spas if you wanted a drink and sit in there the kids just made it uncomfortable for the adults till they left, drinks would be splashed into with spa water you could not drink it then , the yelling and screaming ,no one parents or staff would tell them to stop and behave, its a public area and adults are made to feel as if they should be in there cabin or some were else but not the pool/ spa area. We could not get over the number of parents /grandparents having children in the casino this I found disturbing, but who do you say something to. There was an incident at the ice cream bar where 4 girls around 10 to 12 years old and a boy , they were so rude and nasty to the lady behind the counter, they upset her so much that she jammed her finger in the fridge door ,you could see the tears in her eyes but she kept a straight face and finished serving them ,when they left I asked if she needed some assistance for her hand but she said no,she gave me what i needed and left I did mention it to someone in the dinning room, this lady needs to be commended for tolerance and patience . We found it disappointing that there was no one playing music before the two dinner sittings, while people were having their pre dinner drinks ,is this now the normal ,no musicians playing, it was missed by many people , how asked the waiter were was the music but he was unable to give an answer but there was elevator music, which is definitely not the same. I have medication that needs to be keeped cold and ice packs that needed to be frozen to use over night, this was very difficult to organize, I went to reception and dropped them off on the morning and picked them up on our last return to our cabin for the night so as no one had to go out of there way for me,but they were never frozen they were soft like they had been in a fridge not a freezer, this was something that is needed and was just so hard to get if it went to the medical freezer it had to be picked up early evening ,this was not a go as they would have defrosted by midnight. can you tell me what to do next time please ? IT was an amazing trip, seeing the glaziers , the mountains with some snow, the Ice floating in the ocean,we did see one Moose in Denali National Park, but when ever there was something to photograph the bus could not or would not stop, this led to a lot of disappointing passengers.,we also went to the salmon fisheries were we saw the Bald Eagles , our guide for the first week was fantastic and we enjoyed our stay in the two lodges, the train trip to the ship was interesting.very funny the conductor and his gravel pits . The ports we called into were so crowded to get the feel or atmosphere of the town, to have around 4-5 cruise ships all at once made it overwhelming for the people that work and live in these ports, having over 10 thousand plus people around was difficult to get good service .everyone is trying to do there best for the crowds that are there I would recommend anyone to do this trip, but not in the American school holidays. Book with Princess because I thought Princess was a step up from Carnival and they'd been cruising Alaska for 50 years. Plus I wanted to get close to Hubbard Glacier and the glaciers in Glacier Bay. Coral Princess is old and parts of it feels dated. Our Cabin had plenty of space and storage and a nice balcony. Our cabin Steward was great. The food was not impressive, but at least I wasn't tempted to overeat and didn't gain an ounce on my trip. The entertainment just kept repeating itself. There were a few good acts, but all the performers were the same people every evening just rotated them around the ship. I thought they'd bring on some Alaskan locals, but didn't. We did a Cruise-Tour with the land portion first; and referred the land portion over the cruise portion. The excursions we booked were all great fun. Scenery was good, too. Read Less

This was our third cruise on Princess. We are, or were, loyal to the Princess product. We have sailed others but returned. When our daughter was born we switched to Disney. I was so happy to return to Princess... Disney was great and served our needs at the time. Disney does exactly what you expect of a Disney product. With that being said, when the kids grow up, it's time to go back to a more refined product. No more mad house of kids running, screaming and pushing you out of the way! We sailed on the Coral Princess. This is a 12 day land and sea trip, 7 at sea, 5 on land. Their website says it was refurbished January 2019. Some parts of the ship maybe, but not the staterooms. The room itself was okay but the bathroom was nasty. Mold in the grout lines... nothing a little Clorox Cleanup couldn't fix. Which is why I didn't understand it. Next is the wait staff... The first nights dining was terrible. Painfully slow, no explanation or recommendation on the menu. Drinks were never refilled, water glasses were constantly empty. I tried to engage in conversation with our waiter without success. I spoke with Andre, the person in charge of our dining area. He was great! He moved us to a new location and our waiters there were great. Rico and Socrates were awesome! With them, it was how I remembered Princess dining. Our first shore excursion was a sea plane ride in Ketchikan. Remember the news a month or so back? The sea plane crashes in Ketchikan... My wife called Princess and inquired about the excursion. Princess assured her it wasn't with that company. We show up on the Coral Princess and there is a letter stating that our excursion has been cancelled because it is with that company. She panics that we won't be able to get a comparable excursion and heads to the excursion desk. Good news, she got a comparable excursion booked. We show up for our sea plane flight and guess what? It is with the very company who just had the crashes! Good news, we went on the excursion and they did an awesome job! Now part 2, our Princess land tour. Wittier AK to Fairbanks via Talkeetna by rail, Princess rail. That's where we are now, Talkeetna. First experience... I go to use the restroom on the train. They already briefed for the men to sit down to use the toilet. I get in there and someone didn't listen. There is urine all over the toilet and seat... I grab some toilet paper and wipe it all up. Then I flush the toilet. Seems like the logical thing to do, right? Something goes wrong and the rinse pump spits water and the toilet valve slams open and close several times really fast. Smelly toilet water splashes out and I'm covered from my chest to my knees! The smell is horrific and all I could do was stand there looking at it. These are like airplane toilets with a tank, not like at home. Now the good part... Princess won't allow you to take any bags except for 1 small tote type bag on the train. My one bag was a camera bag, remember it's Alaska! I have no clothes to change into. We have 5 hours onboard this train plus a 2 hour wait until our room is ready. I am counting the minutes until I can get out of these soiled clothes! Now the icing on the cake. We get to the lodge and our room isn't ready yet but our bags are there. Well, some of our bags are there. My wife's bag is missing and at the time of writing this, still missing. Yeah this sucks but at the moment, thank God it isn't mine that's missing! Now the room... there is 1 king bed. There are 3 of us... The same 3 listed on all of our Princess travel documents. Now we have to go back down to the lobby to get a different room. I'm still in my soiled clothes! We are at the Mt McKinley Princess Lodge. We kept hearing how great it was, in reality, it's a dump! This is, or appears to be, an old ski lodge. It has that "rustic " worn furniture look. I would categorize it as a motel not a hotel. Boy has the Princess product changed. We are loyal to the Hilton brand. The Mt McKinley Princess Lodge is way, way below the Hampton Inn. The difference is, when you book at the Hampton, you know what to expect! You know it's not a true Hilton. There is no executive lounge... but it is still a nice and a clean product. The furniture at the lodge looks like they got another lodges old furniture when they upgraded! This cruise/trip is my wife's bucket list trip. Her 50th birthday wish. She has been planning this trip for over a year. She has poured her heart and soul into planning this trip. She has spared no expense... We have a full plate of excursions. Three plane rides, landing on a glacier, a flight to the arctic circle, whale watching and the list goes on. We're standing in our less than impressive room and she is in tears. She asks me if we should just try to get a room at the Hilton? I can't begin to tell you how heartbreaking it was. Update, as I am writing this, they called to say they have found and delivered the bag. Only a few hour late. Not ready to give them a star back but we are thankful. We have some serious thinking to do about our future cruise company. Princess, you have really disappointed us this time. You have 4 days to redeem yourself! On our second night at the McKinley lodge we decided to try a move one of our excursions. The excursion is in Fairbanks and changing it is strictly a matter of personal convenience. Our next lodge is Denali. Oh my, we're back at a princess product... or at least how I envision one. The Denali lodge is beautiful! The staff is friendly and helpful. Read Less

This cruise was part of a much longer tour- 28 days in all. So, I didn't actually choose this. Now having been on it, I wouldn't do it, or anything like it again. This was my forth cruise, the other three being on much smaller boats with much fewer people which is what I prefer. This trip confirmed it for me. To me the ship looks tired and is in desperate need of a makeover. The main atrium area is very nice but rooms and main restaurants are 'beige' and uninteresting. Some smaller eating places and bars are much nicer than the bigger restaurants, decor wise. The food was pretty average. I didn't have a single stand out dish in the whole week. We ate in Sabatini's one night, at extra cost and I wouldn't recommend this. It is simply not worth the money. It should be outstanding if I am paying an extra premium on top. Often drinks ordered took ages to come, one night we waited 50 minutes for a glass of wine and were already half way through our meal. Having to eat off and drink out of plastic is a disgrace in the Horizon buffet. Just really awful and tacky. We upgraded to a mini suite and I'm glad we did. The room was a good size but it would want to be for an extra almost $1000. Decor is unappealing and uninteresting. We didn't use many of the facilities on board, spa was ridiculously expensive, I'm not a gym person. But we loved the movies under the stars. This was fabulous. Front desk staff were very helpful and efficient. Thought they were great. Embarking and disembarking proceedures were very well handles. Read Less

Chose this particular cruise as it had the landtour afterward which had the itinerary we wanted. Ship was 'ok' nothing special or outstanding. In fact we thought it was all looking very old and tired and in desperate need of a major make-over. The cabin mirrored the rest of the ship... tired and dated. The bathroom had a constant musty smell.... i'm guessing from the overflow in the sink not being attached, so whenever the sink should 'overflow' the water just ended up pouring onto the shelf below..!! (not fault of the cabin steward as he did a wonderful job) Dining..... boring boring boring..... nothing that made us say "wow... that was amazing.!" in fact if anything the buffet had more choices and was of the same 'standard'. Oh... 'Anytime Dining'.... that was a joke..!! yeah 'anytime' IF you have made a booking... but that defeats the object of ANYTIME dining..!! We had to wait most evenings for ANY table because we hadn't made a BBOKING for ANYTIME dining..!! Entertainment..... hmmmm.... apart from the onboard dancers and singers, who by the way put on some awesome shows.!!, again there was nothing that made us 'want' to go and see/do anything. Service.... the service we received from the coffee guys was absolutely appalling, totally arrogant and rude (apart from in the Horizon Court/Buffet, they were great) Service from most of the waiters in the main dining rooms again was poor, and we waited for what seemed ages between courses sometimes. The Excursions Tour desk operatives were arrogant to the point of being rude..!! A simple question was replied in such a curt and obnoxious manner... no need for it.! The reception desk were almost as bad. We had 2 occasions to go and ask something. The first time the guy was fantastic and sorted or query immediately. The second occasion we spoke to a young lady (blonde hair, glasses and an accent i wasn't able to identify...) well she was sooooo rude i wanted to complain to management but my other half stopped me from doing so saying "lets not let 'her' spoil our day"... and of course she was right. Ports and shore excursions.... the ones we did were good and well organised as per Princess standards Read Less

Wanted the land tour along with our repeat of the cruise portion from years before. Found the accommodations at the Princess Cruise lodges in Denali, Fairbanks and McKinley somewhat primitive, but certainly adequate. The one night in Anchorage was at the Captain Cook Hotel and found the facility and of superior quality. A great 5 stars for them. We recommend that in the Princess Hotels that room refrigerators and safes should have been part of the lodgings and would have been greatly appreciated. The food at the 3 Princess Lodges was very expensive and not good. We expected the expensive part. The paddle boat tour included in Fairbanks was wonderful and remined us of a Disney tour. The included lunch was very good. The tour in Denali Park was also top notch and greatly appreciated. It has been a few years since we cruised with Princess and were disappointed in what we thought to be a slide backwards in quality. We attributed it to its acquisition by the Carnival Cruise line. We were use to Celebrity and Princess was a let down from what we experienced in the past. We were on the beverage package and were surprised there were no sommeliers. The included wines had only one wine on each of the red or white wine categories. The wines on the red side were largely undrinkable with only the red blend as tolerable. Of course when they quickly ran out of the red blend they were quick to try to talk us into paying for a higher priced substitute. In Celebrity the substitute would have been offered at no additional cost. The wines are not poured in front of you but provided pre poured. We could only tell the wines were bad after we had a full glass of wine. The wines were always served in small dinky glasses that were not designed to let the wine breath. All complaints to the dining staff were for the most part ignored. I had to to go the beverage director via the front desk as the Assistant Maître de refused to identify management staff. Overall, we felt we were on a third class ship. The activities onboard were the usual including trivia. The entertainment was of the standard variety, some we felt was not worth attending. The cabin attendant did an excellent job. The food on board, even in the dining room was average to poor. The buffet food was cold and lacked variety. Read Less

The itinerary for this cruise aligned with the places we wanted to visit, based upon the research of reviews and opinions. It didn't disappoint; it exceeded our expectations in every way. It didn't matter what side of the boat you were on. When we went to Glacier Bay the Captain turned the boat so both sides of the boat received equal viewing time of the Glacier's calving. The Stateroom was clean and the Staff was very friendly. She went out of her way to make sure we had what we needed. The excursion staff was exceptional. One of our Flight Tours was canceled due to a flight incident. They went above and beyond and booked us another Flight Tour and added in a Crab Lunch. GREAT JOB!! The only reason I didn't give an exceptional rating was our Dining experience. We felt the food quality has OK, the waitstaff did not seem to care about your experience, we waited on a few occasions over 30 minutes for breakfast and seating was cramped. We chose anytime dining to have the option to eat alone if we wanted to, but the tables were so close the waitstaff could not fit between the tables. We should have picked traditional Dining and sat with a group. Read Less

We were a party of four. For two of us this was our eighth cruise and our first with Princess. Embarkation was great, very quick and efficient and suitcases came to the cabin in quick time. The sail away "party" was a non-event. All previous cruises have had a live band playing and everyone jumping and excited as we sailed out of the harbour. Not so with this one. As we left the beautiful Vancouver harbour we only had a rerun of a Michael Buble concert on a big screen at the mid ships pool. What a let down and opportunity lost. The biggest surprise of all though was the lack of health risk management. All other cruise ships we have been on have had hand sanitizing stations all through the ship and when entering dining areas these were manned and hygiene enforced. Staff all over ships would force the sanitizing on you as a constant reminder. Not so with Coral Princess. Outside the buffet was a set of wash basins and some sanitizing stations. However they were manned and enforced on the first day only. After that it was a free-for-all. The dining room had hand sanitizers but not enforced. Why is it important? Because some people are filthy pigs and need to be treated like children. One night in the washroom I was washing my hands and a man came out of a cubicle, didn't wash his hands and I followed him out to see him ignore the sanitizers and walk straight into the buffet. How does that make you feel? The food in the dining room was not anywhere nearing fine dining with a misleading menu. For example the "Pear and Blue Cheese and Walnut Crumble" was something our group laughed at. It came out as two halves of cold tinned pears with one half a tablespoon of scattered blue cheese and four walnuts on the side. I would be embarrasses to serve that to a guest at my home. One night I ordered Beef Wellington. The meat was nicely medium as I ordered but it was encased in a soggy mess of pastry that was mostly white glug. Yuk! Another night my wife ordered a semifredo which is supposed to be something like a mix of gelato and frozen mousse. This semifredo was room temperature mousse on cake. The slow cooked ribs weren't meat on bone as she expected, just a pile of small beef portions in a sauce. Nice enough but misrepresented. One night our two travelling companions were served the wrong meals. When they called the waiter and told him that they hadn't ordered these there was no apology and a response of "but its all right isn't it"? Cabins were quite roomy and kept very clean by our attendant. There are lots of great public seating areas across the ship. Plenty of room at bars etc and a general feeling of space which was appreciated. Another big disappointment was the lack of entertainment in the main theatre at night. This is usually one of the highlights of any cruise but not on the Coral Princess. We had seven nights aboard and this is how it went. Night 1 Like all cruise no theatre on sail-away night. But this one had no sail-away band playing either. All we had was a replay of a Michael Buble concert on the screen at the pool. Poor show. Nigh 2 Very poor American comedian who elicited very few laughs. Night 3 Opera which catered to a minority who did appreciate the talented performers Night 4 A Juggler Night 5 The bad comedian AGAIN Night 6 The Juggler AGAIN Night 7 Staff Review CANCELLED Due to a staff members illness WHAT? Whoever thought that was an interesting lineup needs a reality check. The trip through Glacier Bay was fantastic, A wonder of the world. The White Pass train from Skagway is highly recommended. Juneau is the pits, just a bunch of jewelery shops. Don't bother getting off the ship. Walk around the deck with a beer instead. Read Less

Second time on Princess (first on Coral). Had done the same itinerary two years go on Island. Got upgraded to balcony on Caribe Deck. Location was good and had a covered balcony. However it was really too cold to spend anytime on it! Embarkation and Disembarkation went very smoothly (I was in first group both times with carry on luggage). Ship has supposedly been recently updates..seemingly the public area carpets look fresh, ship has the new internet service. There was some exterior painting going on. The metal frame around my baloney door was corroded. Layout of the ship is better than Island, there is still a full Promenade loop on Deck 7 (although closed during rough seas). Small viewing decks at back of upper floors, below the Sanctuary. Library is limited..very sad compared to Holland America. Viewing areas are blocked by blue-tinted glass, very little is unobscured for photographers (a few corners on upper levels, and the back decks, plus Promenade. Blankets provided for outdoor movie viewing are thin flannel, useless in cold weather! Cabin was small, but had room to walk around bed. Bed was extremely soft and saggy, had a sore back after the cruise! Shower stall is cramped, shower head is fixed. Room has small refrigerator. Large flat screen TV. Wine glasses provided but no corkscrew. Standard toiletries are wall mounted shower/conditioner and shower gel, tube skin cream and soap bar. No fruit basket (steward said to request it through room service). Balcony had two chairs and two footrests. Dining in MDR fixed seating was good service. Food was average and somewhat boring. Prime Rib was good, as was beef and lamb chop in mixed grill at lunch. Corvina was fishy smelling. Good scooped ice cream in MDR (choice of two ice creams and one sorbet). Bread is good. Horizon Court food very mediocre with not much choice. Only one smoked fish (mackerel) was available at breakfast. Sushi was terrible! Beverage service is uneven..usually only offered to large parties, not to single diners. Pizza in Sabattinis at lunch is made to order, thin crust style and skimpy toppings. International Cafe food offerings were versions of what was up in Horizon Court. Nothing Special. Room service has limited offerings but was timely. Very little in the way of enrichment..are crafts enrichment? TV had good selection of movies and news channels. Service was overall good except in Horizon Court. I didn't use any ships excursions. I would chose Holland America over Princess for an Alaska Cruise. Read Less

We wanted a winter cruise to warmer climes and a chance to transit the Panama Canal. Pros: -Our Coral Princess cabin was very quiet and comfortable, entirely adequate. The Promenade Deck was a delight, great place to walk, nice deck chairs to relax in, great viewing of the Panama Canal. -Dinners in the main dining room were outstanding. Had seafood virtually every meal, the staff was fantastic. -The Theatre entertainment was also outstanding. Great shows, highly professional, not to be missed. Cons: -Abusive prices for wines purchased on board in the main dining rooms. Outrageous! -Stern Serenity Area: $20/half day!!! Seriously?! -Lido Deck Hamburgers & Pizza - awful, don't bother. Worst we have ever had. -Breakfast sausage - greasy! -Food selections in the Horizons Cafe quite limited except for salads. -Far too few port stops on this cruise, far too many days at sea for length of cruise. One port stop (Nicaragua) was cancelled due to rough weather. -No self serve of beverages except water, tea, coffee. Even lemonade is by special request! -Internet service is hardly worth paying for, marginal at best. -On-board smart phone messaging between passengers about like Windows 95. Terrible, no sound alerts, often had to be re-loaded, re-booted, exasperating! -Main doors to Promenade deck, Lido Deck, Sun Deck, Horizons Cafe are very heavy wooden things that require a huge effort for most people. Great place to transfer germs, they feel sticky and will knock you down if you are not prepared. The should be automatic! -Overall the ship had a very "Stodgy" feel and atmosphere. Read Less

Just get off the ship and grab a taxi. Unfortunately it took about six hours to board the shop because it was stuck in dry dock being repaired. We were sleeping on floors, without food for a long time. And nothing was offered to us. No snacks. Just water. No “hey sorry here’s a free drink. Or a cruise credit” nothing. But the bartenders, kids zone staff, house keeping, waiters and casino staff were all amazing. It really was the staff that made this entire trip worthy. At least they hire great talented people On and they love to only use 1-2 tender boats so plan to wait in line for an hour or so at each port. We fly yearly from the east coast to San Francisco to visit family and friends so we thought sailing there through the old locks of the Panama Canal and see places we had never been before was a great way to go. The ship had just come out of dry dock but I can tell you no attention was paid to anything other than laying internet lines for future use. The couch in our cabin needed a thorough cleaning and the rest of the ship looked tired and ragged in places. Our embarkation was a fiasco! It was late coming into Ft. Lauderdale and as “platinum suite” passengers we waited only 4 hours to board vs the 6-7 hour wait for others with less or no status. There was no compensation offered whatsoever once we boarded - even just a free drink to acknowledge what we went through. This is the 2nd embarkation disaster we’ve experience in the last 3 to 4 years - the first being in San Francisco about 2 or 3 years ago. The port tours were ok in some ports and terrible in others. We have found this to be the case before and may just start using other tour companies in each port. However the transit through the old locks was fabulous! The food and entertainment was just so so and everything else involved an up sell. Really Princess??! What saved this cruise was the fabulous staff all over the ship and our dinner table where we all made new friends and have been in touch since leaving the ship in San Francisco, Read Less

Chose Princess for the full canal transit. The ship arrived late in Ft. Lauderdale late from drydock in Freeport, with many items not completed. Boarding was hours late. Items such as carpet replacement (including our stateroom) continued during the cruise. Balcony stateroom was fine, with outstanding steward. Ship wide food not memorable, with Horizon Court lunch disappointing. Outstanding dining room staff! Princess does not execute well. Dress code that included three formal nights a total joke. We felt stupid bring formal evening clothes. Cunard (also owned by Carnival) has no problem with their dress code. Constant upsell from photo, art, and jewelry staff. Cruise director acted as head salesman. Annoying entertainment staff that spent much of their time doing”wacky games” at the pool, etc. Clientele not sophisticated....many folks started drinking with their first bucket of beers at 9AM. We would choose Princess again only for itinerary and value of no more than $100-125 per night for a balcony. Read Less

Cruise was OK for a holiday getaway. Ship (Coral Princess) is showing her age. We are unhappy with the daily "gratuity" charged to each person. The cruise itself wasn't cheap; however, the "gratuity" charges added $400+to our charges. I would pay an additional amount to be included in the overall cruise charge, rather than pay an exorbitant tariff at the end of the cruise. I don't feel I'm responsible for the extra supplement for the crew's pitiful salaries. 2. The onboard facilities for mobility challenged patrons who use mobility devices are adequate. The shore excursion choices are dismal for us. Besides not being able to disembark at tender ports, the excursion experiences are few to none. Also, the gangways at some ports are made up with steps that are too steep to be able to accommodate the scooter/chairs/walkers needed on shore. We only took one excursion, and that was mediocre at best. Unable to debark at Huatulco and Puerto Vallerta because of the gangway situation. Crew told me I'd have to WALK up and down the gangways! ThAT'S NOT POSSIBLE FOR ME. Put some of your NEWER ships on some of these runs. 3. Mediocre entertainment and very little enrichment lectures/activities. Not all of us cruisers are into all the fluff and games. Difficult to watch movies "Under the Stars) both day and night. Too much noise during the day and hard to see screen. Too cold and uncomfortable seating at night. Food was very good and of great variety, so we didn't go to the specialty restaurants. Ate in the Bordeaux dining room. Waiters very good. Read Less

We decided to cruise for the holidays and visit in California. We boarded the ship after a flight to Fort Lauderdale. We got into the airport about 1:30 and after a short cab ride we boarded the ship without a line. We did Alaska on this ship about 5 years ago. We were on the Dolphin deck with a balcony on the starboard side. The rooms and the ship are showing signs of age. We were a little concerned about too many children with a Christmas trip but it wasn’t a problem. We would have enjoyed a little more music during the day in the middle area of the ship. The nightly entertainment was good and we enjoyed most of the shows. The staff on the ship was helpful and they all seemed friendly and outgoing. The meals were just ok. We did the Chefs table one night and it was great! I enjoyed the all day tour in Panamá and especially enjoyed seeing the new locks and the ride on the bus back to the Atlantic side. The internet was very slow all the time. It looks like they could upgrade to a faster system and people would be happy to pay for a system that works. We missed on port because of bad weather but the trip was good. Read Less

We choose this cruise for the itinerary. But wish that we had chosen another ship. the Coral Princess seems tired and worn out. The staff was GREAT and really enjoyed the good, clean entertainment. The port of calls were excellent and I think that Princess worked hard (and succeeded) in making the trip through the Panama Canal very memorable. The narrator through out the crossing, Chris, was excellent as were his daily seminars about the upcoming ports and offered shore excursions. The fact that the Princess photographers were allowed to go off the ship and take pictures of the travelers on our balconies. That was great. The food was good, but as vegetarians, we didn't sample a lot of what was put out. The buffet was always attractive and clean. The nightly entertainment was very good. There was only one performer that was not to our liking, but that should be expected when such a wide variety of shows was offered. We appreciated the self laundry. There were lots of machines and the area was kept very clean. Read Less

We booked a flight through EZAir and everything went according to plan. We also used the Princess transfer and that too went without trouble. We started off on the wrong foot with this cruise. Princess had my S&S card, but no S&S card for DH. We were told to take a seat and one would be made for DH on the ship. We waited for over 45 minutes to get his card. This also happened on the last cruise we took to Alaska. I asked what the problem was, why did this happen. No comment from Princess. We've been on 21 Princess cruises and we wonder if we're now jinxed. We did not receive our luggage until around 6:00 pm. In past cruises, our luggage showed up right after we boarded. Only thing I could think of was they were under staffed. Our room steward said he had 18 rooms to clean. Was he exaggerating or did he tell us that to show sympathy. We always ask for 1 service a day, to clean the room in the morning and no evening turn down. I found the room steward to be lazy. Had to ask for everything! Bar soap, toilet paper, tissue, wine glasses. We wiped the desk off with a Clorox wipe and the desk was filthy. Salt crystals gathered on the sliding glass door and fell onto the carpet. It stayed there the whole 19 days of the cruise. Not once did he vacuum our cabin. No one should have to ask for these things to be done. Our gratuities were "free" as part of a promotional. I wonder if he knew this and decided not to go the extra step.. We did not leave an extra tip for him as we normally do if the steward lives up to what's required or even goes beyond. We found the food to be okay. The usual Princess food. I wish they wouldn't put so many curry dishes on the buffet. Seemed like there were at least 3 dishes of hot curry dishes, and a curry salad. I wonder if they were trying to disguise certain cuts of meat and vegetables to hide the bad taste of the meat and vegetables. Throw some curry on it and see if it sticks! One night at the Pizza venue on Lido, they had Stromboli. It was very good. However, they only served it 1 time the whole 19 days of the cruise. I asked if they could make more and they said "no can do." That was disappointing, they should have it available every day. The entertainment was horrible. The Canadian comedian wasn't funny at all, the musicals were high school theatrics at its best. The blues/reggae band that played late in the evening in the Atrium was good, about the only band that was worth listening to, The ports we visited wasn't worth getting off the ship for. I wouldn't take this cruise again IF the same ports were visited. IMHO, just make it a Panama Canal cruise, return to San Pedro but stop in Cabo San Lucas for 12 hours. Many passengers did not get off at the ports, and they didn't miss anything. We purchased 2 Gold wine packages. We had 2 passengers tell us that they asked about a wine package only to be told "no wine packages." We purchased ours in the MDR first day on board at lunch. Either the crew they asked did not know about the Gold wine package, or simply didn't care. Princess no longer has the Silver wine package, only the Gold. We had a balcony cabin on Caribe, forward. The cabin is your standard balcony cabin but no extended balcony like on other ships. It was adequate for what we used it for - coffee in the morning and wine at night. Room service was fast, hardly any waiting at all. We always gave them a $2 tip in cash. Be sure to sign the paper slip and write that you paid cash so you don't get charged with an additional gratuity. One more thing, get a printout of your cabin charges every couple of days to make sure no mistakes have been made. A charge of $40 was charged to our account for a bottle of wine that we never purchased. I pointed out that we had the wine package, why would we purchase a bottle of wine. Mistakes happen, and they are never in your favor. Harder to correct them when you have debarked the ship than it is to take care of it before you leave the ship. We have another cruise booked for January 2019 on the Sun Princess. Another new adventure out of Sydney. Bon Voyage. Read Less

The ship was kept very clean and was well decorated. The waiters in the dining room dressed up for the themed nights which helped to make them special. Although the food was prepared well and service was very good, the meal selections were very repetitive. We saw the same items over and over again. There were a lot of sea days but not a lot of interesting things to do. The Spa staff provided a lot of lectures that while informative were also used as selling opportunities. There was a lot of selling which got very old as the items for sale did not change. That is, we saw the same items for sale multiple times. For example, the shop had several racks of sale clothing items on racks outside the store every day and then many if not all of those same items were displayed in the dining room during outlet sales. The entertainment was varied and mostly good. Embarkation and disembarkation went fairly smoothly. Checking in for our flight after the cruise and printing boarding passes was very easy thanks to the help provided by the I.T. staff. The electronics in the cabin were not as up to date as we have seen on other ships of the same age. The TV was not interactive and the menu was slow and the offerings limited. The ports were interesting but the Destination Guide only spoke ab lout places that the ship's tours could take you to. Independent travelers got very little information about what was available. His desk hours were very limited, about 2 hours per day, so getting additional information was difficult. Read Less

We took this cruise to see new ports. The overnight in Canal was wasted time - we could have made one more port and spent one day less at sea, or made the additional port an overnight stay. Food in dining rooms was good to very good, but Horizon Court meals were only above average. This may be acceptable on a mega ship, but is questionable on a ship with less than 2000 passengers aboard. Dining staff is either overworked/understaffed, or many of them may have been at the end of their contract and just wanted to get off the ship. Ship board talent in general was very good to excellent. The show troupe was outstanding, as were Tom Drake, the showtime theater singers, shipboard musicians and singers, and the ventriloquist (Jerry Goodspeed?). The Canadian comic was totally out of his element both nights. Our cabin showed signs of wear and tear: pinholes in the drapes, and different quality and age of the mattresses were obvious when the beds were put together. Shower curtain was in tatters. Sofa cushions were very worn. Verandah furniture was in decent condition but needed cleaning (paint spots). Shorex tours were generally good but inconsistent from tour company to tour company. One tour guide was exemplary and we gave her an extra tip, while one guide was barely understandable because of a heavy accent, and got a smaller than usual tip. Why is there no CNN television? We had friends going on this cruise and joined them. We are getting more and more disappointed in the nickel-and-diming done by Princess. Everything seems to cost more every time we cruise. They have taken away "Happy hour". The Elite Lounge used to have $5 for any drink, now its over $6 for crappy syrupy drinks. No more coffee cards, so they don't roll over - use them or lose them. If you have more than one entree at specialty dining, more money!!! Entertainment was poor, badly spaced and repetitive. The Cruise Director was quite inefficient. However, her staff were fabulous. We only did one Princess Shore excursion, to a luau. This was a large event with other companies participating. Princess had the worst tables with bad visibility. International Cafe was good with excellent service as was the Crooners Bar. However the bar in the Universe Lounge did not have a good bartender, more often than not the drinks tasted like they had no alcohol in them. I think it is time to look elsewhere. Read Less

I chose this cruise for the ports in Asia that were offered. One port in Japan was missed because of weatherr, another port in Japan was missed due to the poor organization of fuel delivery causing us to sit at anchor for a full day. The crew seemed to try to accommodate us, but their leadership was sorely lacking. Little things like the wine prices suddenly hiked when the menu prices were still the original price. Laundry was a disaster. Most of the passengers were Platinum or Elite members and it seemed like Princess could care less in how we were treated. The entertainment was lacking. It was necessary to be in the theatre an hour ahead of showtime in order to get seat and then the show was mediocre. The food was repeated too often and was just average. Head waiter was very good, assistant waiter was lacking and seemed to want to visit with other tables and not pay attention to her duties. Read Less

Earlier this year we did the 94-day World Cruise on the Pacific Princess and expected that since this was a 60-day cruise the onboard activities, food and entertainment would be similar. Unfortunately Princess treated it like a 14-day cruise. Choose this cruise for the itinerary which was very good except that Beijing should have been an overnight. Rough weather between Alaska and Japan resulting in missing 2-ports. This first one due to weather and and the second one because fuel ship ran into weather. Princess knew fuel ship wasn't going to make it but didn't advise us until we were anchored in Bay away from Port. Would have spent overnight in Tokyo rather than sitting on ship anchored in Port. Most of the entertainment and evening on-board activities were scheduled around first seating dining. We had second seating dining which meant we missed many of the activities/entertainment. Very poor scheduling. Entertainment was average and not nearly as good as the Belinda King singers and dancers that were on the Pacific Princess. Menus were repeated around 5-times. We're eventually told Princess only has 13 different menus. Longer cruise means duplicated menus. Also ran out of lettuce, and berries before Guam. Thus were served shredded cabbage for 5-days until we arrived in Hawaii. In summary, would not take a long cruise on any Princess ship except for the Pacific Princess. Read Less
