We were very excited about this cruise and choose celebrity with its great reputation and with this ship having so many sea days we wanted to make sure we had great food and great entertainment... we were in an aqua spa suit with balcony and on first impressions although it was dated it was very clean so we were happy well this didn’t last long... our room was above the main buffet so it was noisy and constantly smelt of food and the overwhelming strong garlic smell that stuck to our clothes and was in our room and throughout the corridor was sickening... the main buffet served the same everyday just changing the meat, the man carving the meat would just pick it up with his hands and chuck it on your plate even though he was wearing gloves it put you off eating it he was very rude and he had an argument with a guest because he manhandled his food so bad half of it miss his plate, it was like being served in prison...I always eat fresh vegetables at home so much to my shock and surprise to find them serving only frozen vegetables in the buffet they were tasteless and soggy quite frankly vile... I can confirm it was frozen veg as every day we saw a member of staff walking through our corridor with bags of frozen veg taking it down to the buffet... there was a particular group of people that spend all day and all night in the smoking area getting drunk which is fine until they were so drunk they were swearing shouting racist remarks being rude to the bar staff chucking rubbish and bottles all over the floor and upsetting many guest around them... where was the ships security why were these people aloud to carry on... if i had been told for 3 days of this cruise the outer decks would be shut down and lighting turned down for safety because of pirates I would have never booked this cruise, this also ment if you had paid for a balcony you couldn’t go on it the lights had to be off curtains shut... our room was difficult to get to and from with the amount of areas shut down on the ship and I saw many elderly people struggling to get to there room in the dark and getting lost in fact we helped a few and we don’t even work on the ship... entertainment well if you can call it entertainment was diabolical the best singer I saw on that ship was a guest getting up to sing in karaoke, the shows were so amateur that it was embarrassing to watch I never saw any to the end cos it was awful, celebrity need to take a leaf out of Norwegian books they had amazing shows, they charge 25 dollars per person to play deal or no deal I know other ships charge 20 dollars, the only good thing the entrainment team put on was the silent disco... tv channels consist of all about celebrity cruises a bit of sport and news channels if you want to watch a movie you pay 15 dollars that’s of course if the movie can download now even though they are charging you 15 dollars to watch a movie in your room you can watch some of them films for free in the outdoor cinema total daylight robbery on celebrity’s behalf... also opposite the coffee shop you can purchase ice cream at a cost but you can get the same ice cream in the buffet for free how can you charge people in some parts of the ship and have it for free in other parts of the ship... daylight robbery... the internet is massively over expensive and we need it for my husbands work but over half the time it didn’t work...When we got on the ship we brought a drinks package included soft drinks and alcohol much to our surprise half way through our cruise the had run out of coco cola, Nescafé and other brands not exceptable celebrity especially when it was at the start of the sea days so you had to wait till the next port before they could stock up again and even then there was still beverages unavailable... we wanted champagne with our dinner in the Italian restaurant which was the only nice meal we had they had a long list and we know that’s not encluded but we wanted a romantic night and were more than happy to pay for champagne the only good one they had was Cristal how can you run out of champagne...me and my husband got tummy aches and sickness along with a lot of other guest whilst on this ship, the only time We enjoyed ourself was when we got off the ship in Tormina and Petra... when we docked in Abu Dhabi we changed our flight and came home early because we couldn’t stand to be on this ship a moment longer I can honestly say our bad experience with this ship has put us off cruising for life I certainly will never book with celebrity again Read Less

It was the worse cruise we have ever been on. On getting to Rome Port the ship wasn’t there due to bad weather which they were aware of 24 hours beforehand. We then had to wait over 6 hours on a hard chair (if you were lucky to get one) and all we were offered was a small bottle of water and a small packet of crackers which they run out of so we only got 1 to share. When we got to our cabin it wasn’t cleaned out sticky marks on the unit. The toilet smelled. Had to ask for disinfectant. The hand towels were a disgrace ready for the bin. Then our fiasco began our air conditioning didn’t work and we had 5 visits from maintenance before they installed a new unit. We asked to be put into a different cabin but was told there weren’t none as shipwas full. Then on the 5th day toilet didn’t work so once again had to wait in cabin for anew system to be put in. The whole ship looked as if it needed refurbishing. There wasn’t any currency to be had on the places we were visiting . The days at sea were a disgrace nothing organised unless you wanted to gamble or attend an art auction. The excursions cost a fortune so didn’t go on any. All the food in restaurant came up cold and had to keep returning it and the variety of food was very poor. The entertainment was more suitable for children which obviously didn’t appeal to most people as the theatre was never full. It was such a disappointment as we went on this cruise to celebrate my husbands special birthday. Read Less

We chose those cruise because it was going to places that we wanted to visit and also ports we have never been to be. Right from start it was horrific. We arrived at Rome port to find the ship not there. We were told there would be at least a delay of 6 hours due to bad weather. During that wait, which the cruise company were aware of all we were offered was a small bottle of water and a small packet oftuc biscuits but because they run out of them we had to share. There were not enough seats so we had to stand part of the time. Then we got to our state room to find the air conditioning not working which took them 5 attempts before it was put right. We had to wait in the room to explain the problem each time. Eventually they put a new system in which would have been done on the first visit. Then on 5th day toilet didn’t work so they had to put a new system in there. We asked to be put into a different cabin but we were told the cruise was fully booked. Also our cabin was never cleaned when we first got into it. Our hand towels were a disgrace. I have better dish clothes. The food in the restaurant always came cold and selection very poor. The whole of the ship looked as if it needed refurbishing. I have never been on a cruise where they didn’t have the currency of the places we were visiting. They didn’t even have euros. When we were at sea there was nothing to entertain us except if you were interested in the casino or going to an auction to bid for a painting. There were so many issues I could go on and on about it. It was even more of a disappointment as we were on the cruise to celebrate my husbands special birthday. Read Less

We chose this cruise line because of the itinerary and that is the only reason, three days in Israel. Three cabins, two generations of cruisers. We have been on lots of cruises, never on Celebrity and never again! Let me start with the positive: big upgraded rooms (we paid for this!) nice staff. Now the negative: we paid to upgrade my parents, we show up at entry, there is no cabin for them and no one seems concerned. I pitched a fit and they found one. They charge for spin and Zumba and yoga classes, a first in my experience. No free Internet --in fact Internet charge was close to $500. Many rooms off limits thruout the cruise for private functions. Unless you drink tap water, coffee (lukewarm) or tea, you pay for ANYTHING you drink. You pay for specialty restaurants. You pay for gelato! Food in dining room and café was unbelievably tasteless even desserts!! Even croissants! No real fridge in rooms. No bottled water.Certain room service items were extra. Ship dirty and smelly Entertainment and activities scant.Forget TV movies and channels, very limited and mostly UK game shows!! Hard sell on everything, in fact, most "activites" were sale shows. 26 such events in ONE DAY. Port lectures were very poor and unreliable, mostly telling you where to shop at their "preferred: shops. It took us three hours to get a rerplacement bathroom light. Towels and sheets are very old and paper thin. Tap water is vile yellowish. Prized for trivia contests were pathetic...sunglass paper cover, small USB stick...?deck of cards Charged $50 for one small sack of laundry. The experience was laughably bad. Avoid at all costs. Celebrity Constellation – Sailing date 19th October 2018 Having booked several Celebrity cruises over last 4 years we decided we will never cruise with Celebrity again. Let me explain why. The good Without a shadow of a doubt, the best thing about Celebrity (with a few exceptions) is its very hardworking and dedicated staff. The bad (1) The food on Celebrity used to be oh so good – a real dining experience in the evenings and a good range of choice in the buffet. The food in the dining room is still reasonable but the menus have not changed in years, anybody with a half decent memory will remember what they are going to be fed for dinner without any need to go and have a look at the menu. Costs have been cut and apart from the gala evenings the evening meal is no longer an event to look forward to. (2) The food in buffet restaurant has gone downhill dramatically. It was never of the standard found on Princess, but now resembles canteen food. You will be offered an array of cheap cream based cakes that are full of sugar but have no taste. If you like refried beans and chilli, you will be laughing as they are on the buffet every day. The choice of dishes is in fact, almost the same every day. The so called themed buffets lack any imagination or quality. Breakfast is also exactly the same every day. The “eggs benedict” is tasteless with the sauce cooked en masse. The choice of cold cuts is limited to the cheapest of the cheap, the kind you would find in a two star hotel. Five star modern luxury – yeah right. (3) The entertainment is extremely poor with the same old tired acts that you have seen on all your previous cruises. The on board musical acts are dreadfully dull and stuck in the past. The music played in the buffet is depressingly dull (4) Onboard activities are all based on extracting as many dollars as possible out of the pockets of their customers The ugly We experienced some very bad weather on the last three days of our cruise and the way Celebrity handled the situation was inexcusable. Be very clear that unless you have booked your flights and hotel through Celebrity, you are on your own. We were scheduled to visit Portofino and Florence , however due to impending bad weather the decision had been taken by the captain to sail instead to La Spezia to ensure the safety and well being ??? of its customers and crew. Be very clear that when this decision was taken, waters were still calm and relocating to calmer waters should have been a clear possibility ( an issue we raised with Celebrity but one they did not address) By sailing to La Spezia it enabled Celebrity (by their own admission) to go ahead with the numerous overpriced shore excursions many of their customers had paid for, ensuring this corporation did not lose what would have amounted to hundreds of thousands of dollars. However those of us that wanted to make individual arrangements were left with a TOTAL OF NOTHING. No transport was laid on to take us to our original ports of call - when enquiring at customer relations desk staff became unpleasant, confrontational and plain dismissive. The weather in La Spezia became so bad that the town got flooded and was closed, making it impossible for the independent passenger to go anywhere. The mooring ropes on the ship broke, resulting in us drifting away from the pier and colliding with another cruise liner. The ship eventually left La Spezia many hours late as the prevailing weather conditions were so bad that it was impossible to leave at the scheduled time or for many hours after, a fact that Celebrity should surely have been aware of. We arrived back in Rome at 3pm – nine hours late. During this time the level of communication from Celebrity was shamefully poor ranging on non existent. When the Captain did eventually come on the public address system to explain the situation, the ships entertainments officer came on the public address system immediately afterwards and repeated word for word exactly what the captain had said, I will leave you to draw your own conclusions on that. Many, many people missed their flights home and as previously stated unless you booked your flight through Celebrity themselves you were on your own with very limited access to wifi to try to get flights re-booked, hotels booked etc. This review has been delayed as we wrote to Celebrity seeking answers twice and twice waited an eternity to receive what resembled in our opinion a “copy and paste job”, notably with spelling mistakes - please do not think me petty but this shows, in my opinion, how little Celebrity think of us, mugs that pay into their profit when the chips are down. We asked why we had effectively been taken into the eye of a viscous storm instead of being sailed out to calmer waters in Spain. Their response was “they acted in the best interests of the passengers and crew” We believe as a group that their main interest was in the money they would have lost had they had to refund the cost of all those pre booked excursions. The response from their customer service team was most unhelpful, refusing to answer many of the issues we raised. In our communications with celebrity we asked that our concerns be passed on to and responded to by a Senior Manager – this request was ignored. We asked about compensation for our lost three days and were told that their senior management team had taken the decision not to pay any customer compensation. In short, they had badly let down their customers and appointed themselves judge and jury on whether compensation would be paid. Is there no independent body that rules whether compensation will be paid, based on a situation like this? Perhaps somebody out there can enlighten me ? Needless to say we will never cruise with Celebrity again. The standard of the food has slipped alarmingly, the entertainment lacks any real imagination or flair. Onboard activities are all about extracting your hard earned cash. However the most unforgivable thing is that they had a clear opportunity to do the right thing in a difficult situation and treat everybody equally not just those who could afford their overpriced tours or had booked their flights and hotels through them, but based on all the evidence to hand, decided instead to chase the dollar and their own corporate interests. Finally and very importantly the shambles that was the disembarkation in Rome, having arrived there so late. Passengers were understandably looking to leave the ship as quickly as possible, many in a last ditch attempt to make their flights home. The organisation from Celebrity was woeful. There was not even a semblance of any kind of crowd control. People were pushing and shoving and multiple different queues were forming. Celebrity placed the blame for the further delay in disembarking, after docking, squarely on the shoulders of the Italian authorities. As passengers continued to wait and wait to disembark, tempers became frayed, but not only among passengers but staff members who were doing such a poor job of organising the disembarkation also started to become rude when asked how much longer the commencement of disembarkation would take. Based on this experience, one could not help but reflect on what might happen if there were a real emergency on board this ship, making the decision never to travel with Celebrity again a very straightforward one. One would imagine that Celebrity held an in depth investigation into the events of last few days of this sailing. Perhaps they should share the lessons learned with all those passengers who lost money and suffered unnecessary stress as a result of their extremely poor handling of the whole situation. It is quite astonishing that so few people have reviewed this debacle of a cruise but maybe after reading this fact based review more people might feel compelled to add their thoughts. Perhaps Celebrity take the view that people live busy lives and the majority of dissatisfied customers never quite find the time to write that critical review? Read Less

Our recent trip on Celebrity Constellation from Venice to Rome was a disappointment. The number of people, the noisy activities, the lack of basic information and the continual selling of products produced a less desirable atmosphere. Also, in many ways it was like going to a private club where one did not know the rules. Throughout the cruise we were finding out how things worked or what was or was not available, such as no access to the Reflections lounge in late afternoon unless you were a frequent passenger of Celebrity. I did not feel welcome. The company failed to provide details such as floor plans in each cabin although there was room for a 48-page catalogue of the art work that could be purchased. Basic information about the ports that we visited was not given to passengers although I discovered partway through the cruise that the concierge had some information. And sometimes there were a few maps etc. available if you knew where to look and got them before they ran out. Celebrity advertises its select Dining program as allowing “guests flexibility with evening dining. Guests select to dine between the hours of 6:00-9:30 each evening, much like a regular restaurant”. But the reality is quite different. On the first day we learned that reservations could only be made before 6 pm or after 8:30 pm and only one day in advance, not for the entire cruise. Partway through the cruise we learned that pagers were available so that you could check in earlier than 8:45 pm (the first available evening reservation) and wait to be called (usually 30-45 minutes). As part of the three-dinner specialty restaurant package, we were assigned on the first evening to the Qsine Restaurant, a restaurant that offers a “unique experience”. Here we sat on mismatched chairs and tried to order from icons on a computer tablet. It was not a relaxing environment, especially when the trendy tubes that doubled as spoons spilled melted ice-cream all over our hands. The Tuscan Restaurant was excellent. We selected this cruise because it was one of the few companies offering two days in Malta, a place with a rich history. However, there were no presentations on Malta but there was time for a talk on gemstones. I was told that it was a corporate decision about when to offer “enrichment” talks. Similarly, it was a corporate decision to put the office of the concierge in the library. Hence, the quiet atmosphere was interrupted by phone calls and visits by passengers seeking information from the concierge. In addition, the open staircase in the library led to the computer room where there were classes and other noisy activities such as selling new tablets. The emphasis on the cruise seemed to be one of selling: either new products (tablets, clothes, watches, art work) or packages for activities during the cruise (internet, beverage, dining etc.). For me, travel is an opportunity to experience new places and learn about their history; clearly, my objectives and those of Celebrity are at variance. My lesson – choose another company. Read Less

We had chosen celebrity as we were under the Impression they had the best most Morden ships that catered towards adults, and a focus on well being etc How wrong we where. Its full of children and the ship is so old and run down it was just so naff. You will not get a seat by the pool st any point during your stay and even if you did it will be ruined by screaming children and awful singers and party games. You’ll be charged 18% on every single bill, no matter how long it takes them to bring what ever you’ve asked for, which will most likely come wrong or cold The buffet restaurant is a absolutle zoo, you’ll be lucky to find a table let alone a clean one. The San Marco restaurant is trying to be 5^ food wise but it just isn’t the food is missing something, it’s not that it’s totally bland it just isn’t good enough for the price of the cruise. The ship needs some serious maintenance, paint all over every window in the restaurant and dreadful 80s decor. There’s nothing to do but drink and shop, and at every stage they will try to flog you something, usually a over priced Rolex or a photo package The tours are all over priced by 4x at least. We got a taxi transfer for €15 and celebrity wanted €60 each! You get around 8 hours in port if you get off the boat at 7 and return at the last on board time of 4ish The entertainment is quite good but very cruise ship, think singers who couldn’t make it past the live stages of X factor The other activities are all over priced, £39 to play bingo EACH! Everywhere is full of fat rude Americans which just makes matters worse. Awful holiday and I will never return. Read Less

This cruise was part of a trip which combined a stay in Lake Garda and return journey on the Orient Express. We have travelled with Celebrity before and this was our worst ever cruise. The ship is extremely old and shabby. The staterooms are tired and in need of a complete refurbishment although they were clean. The tables are absolutely crammed together in the main dining room. The evening meal has the same core menu every evening, with a few variations to the beef, chicken and lamb dishes. The service, if you can call it that, is rushed and unprofessional. The pool areas are noisy with music blaring from 9am every morning there is a distinct lack of quiet areas. The excursions are extremely expensive and poor value for money. The standards have definitely dropped, this is not a 5* cruise. I will never sale with Celebrity again. This was part of an very expensive holiday and it certainly tainted the whole experience! We chose this cruise after hearing that Celebrity was one of the best lines and the itinerary looked great. Any notion of that ended quite quickly on this cruise. I will preface that I do not consider myself a picky traveler at all - I am overseas all the time for work and don’t require much. The issues started with one of our suitcases not arriving at the room and after a call to our cabin steward, being informed very rudely that I needed to fetch it from deck 1. Once I trekked down there, they handed me my bag (which was properly tagged) with no explanation. Only in the elevator did another guest explain that hers was held up due to having an electrical cord in it, so I am guessing my curling iron was the culprit but was never given any explanation or warning prior to packing that electric devices would be an issue. Then came the fun part... booked an excursion to Milan from Genoa which was downright horrid. The bus stopped at a rest area for 1/2 hour, shortening our time in the city significantly. The description included seeing Duomo and La Scala. 90 min into it, our long-winded and hard to understand guide (Daniela) had shown us a no parking sign and 2 “back alleys” and none of the sights. After viewing the back alley side of La Scala, we finally asked the Celebrity rep whether we could proceed to the church and she stated that we would only see it from the outside. If we had known in advance we could have easily got timed tickets ourselves online, but they would not disclose the agenda, preventing us from planning for ourselves to actually see the city. We broke off and crammed as much in on our own as we could in the limited time we were afforded, but disappointingly we barely scratched the surface of Milan thanks to all of the wasted time. I hoped this was an anomaly by at dinner we found our friends had a similar experience on their tour to Portofino - barely having time to see anything at all due to inept guides. We put on our game faces hoping for a better day in Rome, but alas, our bus stopped at the gate to the port for over 30 min (watching all the other buses from the Disney ship pass us by) to do some kind of personnel transfer. So underway an hour later for an already short day to try to take in a little of Rome. We will book on our own for the other ports and avoid anything related to Celebrity excursions. I will say that the food on the ship has been very good and there are some nice spaces. But the service at the bars and in the staterooms is nothing to write home about and definitely a few notches below Princess or Disney, our other cruise experiences. Disappointing for sure. Read Less

Compared to other cruises this ship seems very tired, there were no entertainment staff pushing shows and events and you were left to actively seek out entertainment and shows.I found some of the staff very rude and condescending especially guest services ,the drinks were very hit and miss one good cocktail out of three, they ran out of certain beers very quickly and the best they could do was offer you one that had been on display and was warm.we found the food to be either bland or extremely salty and not very appealing ,service in the restaurants was very slow.Guest services lost several passports and we were informed that we could not leave the ship at port and only half the tenders were running so waiting time to disembark was about three hours which gave you little time once you were on land .Quite the opposit though if you paid celebrity for one of their own excursions. There was a lot of misinformation about the cruise as we were never told distances from ports to places of interest ,two and a half hours into Bangkok this left pricey excursions and the cost of a hotel to stay overnight as one day would of been pointless all this adds up and I felt like we were being held to ransom as the alternative was to stay on board and admire the lovely view of thousands of shipping containers ,it was the same in other ports .we struggled to find the extra costs we wasn’t told about To top it all off there was a stomach bug active on the ship which we both suffered . This experience has probably put us off future cruising it was very hard work which is not what I want from a vacation .First time cruising with Celebrity, never again . Read Less
