Like some people, I read negative reviews before I read positive ones. Given, that I have already made a selection, I want to see what I failed to notice when I first made my choice. I read the previous negative reviews of the Symphony, and they were rubbish. This was the best cruise I have ever sailed. The ship was impeccable and up to date. The wifi service was flawless. The staterooms were roomy and well-appointed. The public rooms were beautifully adorned. The staff was cheerful and attentive. One-fellow passenger quipped, I have never seen such a happy crew. The shows were perfect, and the food was divine. My only complaint was that I wish they had a later dining option. The dining rooms all close at 9 pm, and this bumps against the shows, which are typically at 7:30 and 9:15 pm. Also, the absence of towel origami was a big positive. The ship and the passengers reek of class, and that made for a very pleasant experience! Read Less

We booked a Sea Breeze suite on deck 9 in mid 2017. These suites were created when the ship was refurbished in October. 14 days before we were due to step on board our agent was told by Crystal that due to electrical problems the Sea Breeze suites required repairs and we had been upgraded to a Penthouse Suite on Deck 10 under the pool deck. Our agent knew that after 25 years of regular cruising there are locations of a ship that we would not accept even if free. Under the pool deck is one area. Upgrade rubbish - suite size the same, fare the same and services to the suite the same. We asked if we cancelled would there be a penalty. Yes there would be no refund and read the small print we,Crystal, have the right to change the suites. We had also taken a 3 day pre cruise hotel package in Mauritius. Two days before flying out to Mauritius we checked the weather to discover the island was about to be hit with a category 3 (severe) cyclone and all air travel was cancelled to and from the island. We telephoned Crystal in Sydney and identified ourselves with the booking number etc. The voice at Crystal told us that they had no official notice of any Cyclone and they would only talk to our travel agent. Hello a cruise ship capable of holding 848 passengers heading into a cyclone forecast area and they did not know that fact. Does anyone in Crystal tell the truth? The coach from the hotel to the ship was a shambles. We arrived after 1.30 pm so lunch was not available - part of the service was suppose to be a champers lunch, which no one knew about. When we arrived on board we were told that deck 9 was closed due to flooding. Hello the ship must have great scuppers (drains) if only deck 9 was effected. When we told the Concierge that our concern with the Penthouse Suite was noise from the pool deck we were told they had never had a complaint about noise. Hello again. The now have one. For the next 14 days we had foot steps over our heads from around 7 am to 10 pm or later. Furniture was dragged across the deck. From time to time heavy trolleys trundled across the deck. At 5 pm the staff rearranged the sun lounges by moving them into position and dropping them. We complained to the Concierge and the time moved to 9 pm. When the deck was hosed down in the early hours of the morning we had the benefit of an early wake up call. On the second day we became aware that there were only 380 passengers on board, so that really explains why deck 9 was closed. The climax of the treatment we received came on day 5 when we discovered that the on board of US$1200 was not on our account. You had to spend that on board. Yes, we do read the fine print. After a meeting with the Chief Accountant it took another 2 days before the credit was put onto our account. Although the web site sets out the service to the suite we had to ask for such service each time. We only have a butler because we select the better accommodation and the butler comes with such accommodation. On the ship the Butler did not offer any service. On day one there were no canapes. Afternoon tea was never suggested etc. Service in the dining areas was initially very good but fell away in the last 7 days to poor. Read Less

We have cruised since 1995 each year. We were sold this cruise as a luxury cruise and it was anything but....poor service in the dining room as well as very poor trained staff. Wife insulted by server and water spilled in lap. Shop attendants bored and non attentive; products about twice as much as in shops here. Children running up and down the halls unsupervised at 01:00 hours and all ship Hotel Manager advised was "WE HAVE SPOKEN TO THE FAMILY" but the disruption still occurred almost nightly. NO assistance for disabled leaving the vessel at ports. Room so crowded that 2 people can not change clothes at the same time. Most mornings there was cherrio's and cookies on the floor of the hall. Truly the CRUISE FROM HELL and we will never consider Crystal again Read Less

I was very very disappointed with Crystal. I took the advice of the travel agent but now realize that she might have recommended it because she gets a bigger kickback from them. I have been on many cruise ships of all sizes from the largest RCL to Norwegian and Seabourne. She told me that Crystal was the best by far. I decided to bite the bullet and take a cruise with them. Wow this ship has seen better days. Apart from the tiny room with the furniture that looked so cheap and dated. The whole ship decor was not only dated but looked worn out. ditto with the carpet and the lighting. And the main dining room was like a three star hotel dining room . From the boarding to the reception the staff I can only say was NOT top notch. Many looked like they did not want to be there. The lady who took us to our room (worked at the spa) barely spoke to us and I noticed wasnt greeting guests she walked past as I was accustomed to . I was also taken aback by the end of day boarding after an excursion. On all the ships I have been on their is staff welcomed you back on the ship with a smile and refreshements (*water or juice on the larger lines, champagne on Seabourne) On Crystal not even a plastic glass with water. No one was there except for the surly ship crew mates. The food was fine but I would say the quality was just as good on the bigger ships in the extra fee venues. The servers although nice were harried, again not what you expect from a 5 star experience. Did I mention the rooms were ridiculously tiny? For the same amount of money you can get a suite on the Haven (Norwegian) with a butler and the private pool. similar price for a much larger balcony suite on Seabourne, or if you like a larger ship the loft suites on RCL. Service on these other ships was just as good. Again I am not sure about where all the raves come for Crystal. My 1 star review is mainly because of the quality price ratio. At a cheaper price I might not have had as high expectations. Kind of like going out to a fine dining michelin starred restaurant but instead getting a quality chain restaurant food and service. And the WI-Fi prices Usurious. I paid $200 For 10 Hours I think, It almost never worked and the staff in the computer was very surly. when I asked if I could get a refund for the 6 hours I didnt /couldnt use (due to the poor connection) they said "no" . I was assuming that the high price somehow assured the level of quality that you can find on Seabourn...trust me it does not. This ship is dated and dirty throughout. The decor is a worn holiday inn, circa 1980. On the day we checked in our TINY room (a suite with a balcony) had been painted that same day and the workers left their mess behind...can you imagine this? The smell of paint in our claustrophobic room? If we could have gotten A refund of 50%, we would have gotten off the boat immediately. Our room was also on the 8th floor, far from the nearest room to the engine room, but it was still like sleeping through an earthquake every night. We had to ask for thicker mattresses and I assume it was a common request, since we saw a truck unloading new mattresses at the next stop. We had a tiny, ancient TV, placed on top of the mini fridge in the far off corner. The only positive is the bathroom, which was a nice size, with good water pressure. The ground tours were incredibly expensive and half of them were very Meh. The food...mmm...it was so bad on the first day...but it got better as the ship sailed on...the cheese cart was the highlight. Silk Road...the maitre D, makes you feel bad for wanting to eat there, it was always empty, but they told you they were all reserved. The one day we hung out at the pool, they had a dreadful Philippine band belting out the worst songs at ear splitting volume. No-one was clapping...I think we all just wanted to go back to napping or reading our books. Service was either really good (some waiters are amazing!)...but others are terrible...like the captain from Pondicherry who played a trick on an elderly man...why? For his own amusement, because no one else found it funny...it was just mean. Also, on other cruises I have been welcomed to the boat by a towel and water and even champagne...not on crystal...it's more like airport security...intimidating men with an X-ray machine. The entertainment was actually really good...they have a neon dancing show which is excellent, as is the dance number on the day at sea. I would not recommend this trip to my worst enemy. Read Less

30 cruises with Regent/Seabourn/Silversea/Oceania etc and the second trip with Crystal. Clearly Crystal has many fans, who appear not to have travelled with many other lines. Boarding was chaotic, 900 people board at the same time and stand in line in the cold as each passenger is checked in on board. Safety drill took place at 8.15 pm. As you sit at the bar, a sign is placed in your face that service is suspended. Everybody goes outside, many are drunk and making a joke of the whole process. You then all rush back in and undergo the chaotic dinner service in the dining room. Dining by reservation is a disaster. You are seated in an undesirable seat between meal services as the waiters noisily clear the first sitting and set up the second sitting. We were given seconds to order; "I hope you are ready to order", with no eye contact and desperate to move on. Wine service is "Red or white?", no description of the wine and it is poured VERY quickly before they run off. Food quality is VERY poor compared to ANY other cruise line I have travelled with and in particular with all inclusive premium cruise lines. Menus are very unimaginative; ingredients are cheap, frozen and prepared in advance. Everything is VERY salty, especially the soups that are often slopped around the bowl and plates as they are rushed to your table. Dessert is often Ice Cream or Ice Cream, a clear sign of penny pinching. There were numerous outbreaks of gastric illnesses. The dining room is very busy, very noisy and in no way refined or anywhere near fine dining. There is no alternative dining in the evening in the Lido area as with all other premium lines such as Seabourn/Regent etc. Prague and the Nobu themed restaurants are 'ok' but then they should be, considering the hype and the background to the chefs who risk their name to the venture. Lunch is a procession of travel agents being dined by Crystal. They can be heard clearly explaining how Crystal provide 'incentives' to recommend them to clients and one was thanking Crystal for his latest iPhone update. Cabins are the smallest on ANY ship and the bathrooms have two PLASTIC bowls that you can just about put your hands in.You have to carefully manoeuvre around the room just to be able to get around the bed, the cabins really are very small. There is no atmosphere on board, it is really very flat. Officers are rarely seen except at the 'Welcome Aboard" party towards the END of the voyage where the officers won't touch you in case they spread viruses. Staff in general are flat, there is often no eye contact and nobody called me by name which I have never experienced on any premium cruise line. The stateroom attendant couldn't even manage 'hello' or 'good morning'. Shows are 'ok' but again nothing special considering the claims of Crystal to be the best. Dancers are too busy eating in the main restaurant at dining times we were told were not available. I could write a lot more but I think it's safe to say my money will be staying with the other premium lines and I can only suggest those Crystal fans that have never tried another cruise line to venture out into the big competitive world and try some better food and service in cabins twice the size and sometimes lower priced than the very 'pricey' Crystal. They could not make a Room Access Card for my wife that worked for five days. They kept blaming her for demagnetising the card when for 21 cruises we have worn our card in a Lanyard around our neck. Could not get a Hot Meal in the Dining Room. Even the hot Soups were cold. Complaints were not able to fix the problem. Could not get a Steak Medium Rare as they always came well done. Excursions were of poor quality and well over prices we spent A$2500 and got half that value. Complaints were ignored. No Musical Entertainment between 8.30 and 9.30pm. The Cruise Director would do nothing about it. Bridge Sessions were only 2 hours on sea days and on port days no equipment would be made available. Ran out of Saporro and Tsingtao beer even though there was a large Asian Passenger list. Also ran out of Hot Chocolate. All in all a poor experience in what is supposed to be a five Star line. Aparently since Changing hands they have deteriorated. Read Less

I have cruised Crystal for the last few years and had many friend joining me every year from all over the world , this was our meeting place once or twice a year I have a very stressful job going on vacation to relax is a must for me for the last 2 year I can see the deterration of the quality of service , food , entertainment and over all maintenance of the 2 ships( the worst front desk customer service ever ) the cruise line deleted many expensive meals lowered number of staff , bad house keeping , Some guest found dirty laundry in their cabin when they checked in ... really 6 starts cruise ship. Really .... The Staff is miserable ,over worked and under paid , they also noticed the change from a luxury cruise line to average since the sale of this cruise line 2 years ago. I get a call early morning from the Captain looking for a missing male guest asking me if I know the where about of this guy I found out that he called all the female guest that day asking the same questions this is not how I wish to wake up on my vacation .... the guy was drunk and did not return to his cabin I tried to reach out to cruise line headquarters in Los angles as will as Eddie ( CEO)via emails and phone calls "All I got was sorry, we try to do our best , we are 6 stars cruise line" ....really I would save my money and find a better cruise line , I will never cruise with this cruise line as are many others to cruise with where I would have a great time in a clean environment ,great food ,pleasant atmosphere and stress free bon voyage Read Less

We were on the Crystal Symphony v2226 Oct 21-Oct 31 Montreal-New York. We flew out of Newark on Friday to get to Montreal early. Our flight was delayed but we got there that night. Checked in to the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth. Upgraded to a junior suite with the Fairmont Presidents Club. I highly recommend this hotel. Great room, great food, great location, and great service. I was even able to get late check out for Sunday to stay in the room until 4:15 to watch the Giants game. We checked out and took a taxi to the cruise pier. Upon arriving at the pier the taxi was able to go all the way to the door of the terminal that was very close to the entry to the ship. (Very convenient) When we entered the ship we were checked in and then taken to our cabin. Cabin- We booked a window cabin on the 7th floor. We booked a window because we knew it would be too cold on most of the trip for us to enjoy the balcony. The cabin was way too small. Our luggage did not fit in the room and needed to be stored. The bathroom was the size of a closet. The worst feature of the cabin is the bed. The bed has a cheap mattress that was as hard as a sheet of plywood. Their is nothing luxurious about the bedding on Crystal. The horrible cabin had us wanting to leave. We could not get a refund if we left so we stayed. Dining-This is the best feature Crystal has. The food was great in every venue. Although the food and waiters were great the drink service was very slow. My wife drinks soda and there were days where we had to ask halfway through dinner where the coke was. Wine glasses were not refilled quickly. The ship had propulsion problems on Monday when we were supposed to leave so we did not leave. We didn't leave until Tuesday night and we missed the port of Quebec and the scenic cruising on the Saguenay River. This was a big disappointment to us and also many on board. Crystal could have taken the initiative to run a bus trip on Tuesday AM to Quebec as it is about 2.5 hours away from Montreal but they did not put in the effort. Halifax and Bar harbor were nice ports and we had great weather for them. Then we get to Boston. We were told that Newport RI would be cancelled due to the rough seas so we would be staying overnight in Boston. This was another opportunity for Crystal to take the initiative and still run tours to Newport RI (its only 1hr 20 mins away) but they didn't. We rented a car and drove down and back. The breakers mansion is amazing. While in Boston about 50 people chose to get off the ship due to the coming hurricane. We were encouraged not to get off from the staff and told that Crystal would take care of everything and it would not be an issue. After the second day in Boston an announcement was made saying that for our comfort we would be staying in Boston instead of sailing into the hurricane and that we would miss most of the extra day in NY. Instead of waiting Tuesday morning to evaluate the situation by 7AM Tuesday the boat was sailing towards NY. By Tuesday evening we were given an announcement that due to damage to the NY cruise terminal we would be taken to Charleston, SC which was Crystal's first port on the next cruise. They said that there would be people in the main reception area to address any concerns. I went to the table set up on level 5 and was told the same thing as the announcement. When I asked how we would get back to NY the person behind the table shrugged their shoulders. They said that's up to you. Not only was any transportation paid for by Crystal but we weren't even given any help making the arrangements. Their only response was that they gave us free internet. The internet was so slow once everyone got on it that booking anything was difficult. I asked to be able to use the phone at no charge and was told it would be $2.50 a minute. Thanks Crystal!!!! Clientele- If you are young(under 60) and are considering going on Crystal....DONT. The average age of the passengers has got to be about 80 years old. This will be our last cruise on Crystal. When a company is going to advertise 6 star service, I expect better than what Crystal provides. We had a much better experience on Silversea. Food is good on Crystal but that where it ends. If you want more than food then look elsewhere. Read Less

Embarkation/disembarkation: I prepurchased transfers from airport to ship and ship to airport. They completely forgot us and we had to take a cab. Tried to get reimbursed and instead they charged us a second time and would not budge. After many tries both on ship and after we got home, I had to give up because my blood pressure could not take it anymore. In summary, you cannot trust Crystal on transfers. Food: barely adequate. Slow, wrong, screwed up at the table, dropped, etc. etc. pick an adjective. Maitre d' clueless. Booked for a table for two but put at table for 8 and told to like it. This is not a 6 star, or 5 star, nor 4 star, nor 3 star, nor 2 star ship.... Ship furnishings: eh, normal hotel. Nothing to make it stand out or be unusual. Kids: Nothing for kids to do. No children's coordinator. They get a zero for not even trying a little. Cabin: smaller than other lines. Only shining light on ship was female room steward who was wonderful. Unobtrusive and quick. Room service: You have to call your room steward and then they take your order to kitchen so everything takes a long time. Terrible room service food- McDonald's is better. Tour desk: good Spa: Disorganized and rude. Taken over by the World Cruisers. TS attitude. Ship: Engine broke down and we had to miss a scheduled stop due to slower speed. Maintenance is not a priority with this line. Crystal puts on party for American Express cardholders: but because I don't have a platinum card was not invited. Captain: pissy demeanor. Would not shake hands because it was not hygienic. But had no trouble shaking hands with World Cruiser. Artwork: Bought over $12,000 of artwork onboard and never received it. Crystal would not speak with me -insisted that I complain through my travel agent. As of this posting, this is in litigation and I have received neither artwork nor refund. In summary: Do not book on Crystal. These people are real trouble. Read Less
