Our 7-day Mediterranean cruise was fantastic. We left from Venice after staying there overnight in August (HEAVY tourist season - glad we didn't stay longer). We checked in at like 11:30 (technically embarkation started at 12), gave them our bags, then walked back to Venice to get lunch and spend a little more time there. I didn't expect things to be happening on the ship before we departed - would have been nice to know but it probably wouldn't have changed anything. Embarkation a few hours later was super quick and painless and our luggage was just arriving at our room which was nice. Disembarkation was similarly easy and relaxed because we had a train to catch to Florence at 11am and we got to stay onboard to enjoy one last breakfast (in a free restaurant). We had the Ultimate Beverage Package - a wonderful and key addition, and the 3-meal specialty dining, where we went to the French, Italian, and hibachi restaurants. The French one (the "fancy" one) was easily the best and nicest, though the other two also had good food and experiences. The bars on the top decks got SO crowded during the afternoons when the outside crowd was at its peak so you had to wait several minutes for whatever drink you wanted, no matter how simple or complex. I think it'd be nice if they could somehow figure ways to have an expedited line for simple drinks (beer, wine, premade/two-ingredient cocktails, etc). Despite making TONS of cocktails everyday, I give so much credit to the bartenders who were all really great and consistently provided great service with a smile. Same goes for all the servers and everybody else onboard - service and cheerfulness was amazing! Drinks would be quite expensive a la carte without the beverage package - I feel like we got our money's worth with quantity and variety, but even so, it would be a significantly worse experience without the beverage package, even if it may have even ended up slightly cheaper. The entertainment crew and nightly shows were all amazing and so fun and well done. We loved seeing the entertainment crew everyday across the ship and interacting with them in different activities. We did trivia a lot and for some reason it was very geography-based (I.e. which country/sea/etc. is the biggest/smallest/etc.) but I suppose they wanted to be accessible to all crowds, even if it wasn't super diverse of a trivia experience 1-2 times a day throughout the cruise. And it was still fun playing, especially with the great hosts. Easily my biggest gripe with the on-board experience was that I paid so much for the all-inclusive cruise and it felt like I was being sold on extras all cruise long, whether that be photos or CruiseNext deposits or the duty-free store or even bingo. Why not even offer a single free bingo for fun??? (I guess because it's obvious a lot of people will in fact pay for it...?) Don't even get me started on the "free" health or well-being seminars... After curiously staying for a seminar immediately following a raffle (the main way they rope you in), I regretted being guilted into staying for a 15-20 minute strong sales pitch for an expensive product by the fitness guru onboard. My only other main gripe was dining, specifically the chaos that was the main buffet dining hall and the unimpressive/occasional lack of vegetarian options. The Garden Cafe buffet was very big, but somehow not big enough. I can't entirely blame NCL for it (unless it's a ruse to sell more dining packages...?), but we very quickly learned that if we continued going there instead of the restaurants (even if just the free ones), we would have had a worse overall experience - not at all relaxing to eat at the buffet, even with the good selection and variety. And speaking of which, I expected the inclusivity and variety of the cruise to at least have strong vegetarian options (and hopefully even some vegan ones), but the latter would have been very difficult to do consistently and even the former seemed to be occasionally lacking, not necessarily in the buffet but notably in the restaurants. The only other thing to write about was shore excursions and we did one everyday through NCL, which definitely made it easier and more convenient. In fact one port call had to get cancelled due to weather and we immediately got refunded for our paid excursion, no effort necessary. All the excursions ranged from very good to really great, and the local tour guides were all great. There was a good variety of options and even though the tours were larger size than ideal (20-30+) and some ports (I'm looking at you Santorini) were really crowded, they still all ended up being great experiences. Overall terrible experience. Upon arrival we are told that the first stop on Koror was cancelled. We were given no notice beforehand. Talking to travelers from the month before it appears they knew about this in advance. Instead we stent one full day in the shop with not much to do. The pool is way undersized for the ship so really crowded. Long lines for most things. We never spent more the 6 hours in any location which is definitely not enough for most islands we visited. WiFi is overpriced as expected but also terribly slow and unreliable The worst though is the noise at night. We got one of the nicer rooms on the 11th floor and the noise from the parties at the pool was unbearable. It went on until midnight or even 1 am. They advertise these rooms as ideal for families but my kids could not sleep until 1 am which made them very difficult to deal with the next day. Staff is nice but this ended up been a very expensive vacation which felt like a stay at an Holiday Inn. Read Less

We did this same itinerary 40 years ago and wanted a trip down memory lane. Not to be, apart from embarkation and disembarkation which reminded us of the pre online booking era. 2 hours to board after standing in endless queues and 2/3 hours to get off after queuing round deck after deck. At 76 years old....not good. No designated areas for a quiet drink and possibly a read. No restaurant adult only times. The charge of $39 dollars minimum for an al la carte restaurant was ridiculous after viewing the menus. The food in the main restaurant was basic to say the least and the best food on the ship was burgher and chips for lunch pool side. We ate ashore where possible. The entertainment was dire. Every bar had a wanna be vocalist whom I am shore never passed an audition overseen by any person with musical knowledge. The only saving grace was the staff, clean, smart, knowledgeable and very attentive. Read Less

A travel agent suggested this cruise because it met our date and destination needs. We had issues with everything from the WIFI to the key/charge cards constantly. We stayed short periods at the best destinations and long periods at the bad ones. The butler service was terrible compared to what we’ve experienced on other cruises. The fitness and spa facilities were sub-par. The best food was in the included common areas. Fine dining options were not fine. At one point a tour guide abandoned the tour! The pool was often closed without explanation during sail times. Thankfully we had a nice suite to hide in and the countries we visited were amazing. We finally figured out to start doing our own thing at each port. The entire staff seemed bored and overworked. Also communication with NCL was very difficult prior to departure. Very long hold times and they never answer the phone. Read Less

Horrible Customer Service. Never again! The boat itself was very nice. Our view from the deck of our Penthouse suite was amazing. The room was well outfitted and comfortable. Everything else about this cruise was poor. The service was appalling. The front desk were the worst. We had a problem with a billing error that they made. I caught it by monitoring my online account. I called the front desk, waiting patiently while all the info was entered. The person saw the problem and that it was their error but told me that I had to come down now to get it fixed. I was sick and told him so. He said I had to come down anyway. I went down, waited in a long line, then had to go through the whole thing again with someone new who then told me that they would have to contact the restaurant to get it fixed and the restaurant would be closed for two more hours! So I would have to come back in the morning, disembarkation day, and wait in line again. (All of this, the unhelpful person I spoke to on the phone clearly knew and had me come down anyway.) The next morning, waited in line again, explained again, was told to "move to the side" while they called the restaurant. Restaurant did not answer so the person said "next" and handled the next people in line. I stood there for 10 minutes before she decided to try the restaurant again. My husband then arrived to see what was going on and asked to speak to a supervisor who solved the problem after another wait, apologized but with no real intent, dismissively and with an annoyed tone of voice. I wrote all this down and sent a note to the Cruise Manager telling him about the incident and after several weeks have heard nothing back. There were other poor service issues. I had restaurant reservations messed up twice by staff even after we caught the error in advance and told them about it. We had someone else's laundry delivered to our room. One morning, we rushed into the "suite only" superior restaurant and explained that we had to get breakfast fast since we were running late for an excursion. They said "no problem" then ignored us for a long time. In the end our food came out 30 minutes later and we had to leave as it was being brought to our table so we didn't get to eat breakfast that morning. On embarkation day we called Norwegian and were told we could not get on the boat till 12. This was a problem because the Vogolonga was happening in Venice and the canals were closing for the race. We ended up hanging out, with our luggage, in a cafe near the train station. When we got on the boat we found out that we were given wrong info and could have got on around 10am. We had several other problems but these were the worst ones. Shore excursions....Great tour of the palace with excellent tour director on Corfu but the lunch at a Greek Taverna was awful. We are not complainers. I have been on other cruises (from low end, Carnival, to high end, Silver Seas) and have never complained about anything before. This was just so bad I felt I had to. Overall, I would not choose Norwegian again. Read Less

First let me say we had an AMAZING 14 day cruise through the Panama Canal. Everyone from the baggage handlers to the Captain were warm, inviting and went over and above to ensure our bucket-list cruise was all we imagined it would be and more. NCL corporate on the other hand were HORRIBLE and need additional training and a means to correct actions, which are truly of their making, which affect their employees. I planned for close to a year to ensure my near 80 year old father’s bucket-list cruise through the Panama Canal was everything and more he could have imagined- and it was. I watched countless hours of YT videos on what to pack, what to expect and any precautions which would help us avoid any hiccups during our trip. I called and emailed our personal cruise consultant and Concierge MANY times before our cruise to ask questions and request any items due to my father’s health and to confirm all was done and nothing would missed off or forgotten to avoid any troubles later. I even went to far as to create a daily guide to help us remember what day it was and what the daily activities were to help us commeroate our time together and scoured over our paperwork before and to comply with all NCL required per our cruise documents to ensure our check-in process and our cruise went as smoothly as possible. My parents even paid for the extra travel insurance just to make sure if anything happened prior to or during our trip medically, we would have some peace of mind knowing we had options available to us for added peace of mind. For our cruise we opted for the prepaid gratuities so we made certain EVERYONE who was due money was paid their dues as they are the hardest working people on the seas. You see them in the sunrise breakfasts and the midnight buffets- they must be vampires cause they never seem to sleep from the baggage handlers and dishwashers to the Captain. Lol. My husband and I traveled with my soon to be 80 year old parents to help with baggage and flew literally across the country from Fort Lauderdale to Los Angels in one day. Every step along with way we were there to help with bags from the vehicle to the airport, gate to gate, airport to hotel and hotel to ship. If we were not there this trip of a lifetime would not have been possible. Everyone we met along the way was awesome- a little hectic but what vacations don’t have great stories to tell from memories made after right?? We purchased a two bedroom- two bath suite for our extended cruise and truly had a great vacation. Everyone from the wait staff who waited on us daily, Susi our Concierge and JonJon our butler were exemplary in helping make sure this was the time of our lives and we cannot say enough great things about them- KUDOS to them all. Our issue arose when representatives from each suite were called together to discuss how disembarkation would go and where to meet. It was at this meeting- during the last two sea days of our trip north of Cuba- that Susi let us know our butler was not covered under the gratuities paid which got an audible gasp in the room. Mind you, HOURS of research, emails & phone calls to NCL were made and videos were watched to avoid circumstances such as this from happening. During my research and even during their Shore Excurision presentation they mention at certain ports, “do NOT display obvious signs of wealth.” Which, to be honest, can apply to any street in any town in the US as well so no shade. Our issue is knowing we were told ALL our gratuities were prepaid under our cruise fare by NCL beforehand we all carried cash to tip our baggage handlers, tour guides, bus drivers and a little more if anyone went over and above and deserved a little more appreication than the standard allowed- not extra money which is truly rightly due those who were not covered as we were told by NCL ALL gratuities were already paid. We were absolutely aghast. We went to our room and quickly pooled all our remaining money we had left to give to him. We purposefully didn’t travel with a lot of extra cash as, who carries cash anymore let alone buckets full when everyone cautions you against doing so and being told they were already paid? When we got into the port of Miami, (Saturday) I emailed our personal cruise consultant immediately about what had happened. I was able to speak with her on Monday as she was out of the country as well and she assured me that as we elected to prepay our gratuities our butler, along with everyone else, was covered but to contact Guest Services and let her know of what they said. I just got off the phone with GS, Anthony (i), I believe was his name and he said Butlers were NOT covered by the gratuities we paid and there was nothing that could be done to rectify the matter and it stated in the seven pages of cruise documents he wasn’t covered. I didn’t have the cruise documents in front of me at the time but when I got home later that evening i went straight to them and in fact the butler was NOT mentioned in my cruise documents as I was told it was. This completely taints our entire wonderful vacation because we actually stiffed someone who absolutely positively deserved it the most and earned every last penny of the money during our cruise as we couldn’t be happier. We’re so upset and disappointed with NCL over this, we cannot even begin to properly express them. SHAME ON YOU NCL for doing this to us and well as to your employees. Shame. On. You. You have absolutely taken a wonderful trip of a lifetime and tainted it with a policy that even your own employees do not fully grasp and in turn cheating hard working employees out of hard their earned money without a means to rectify it?? SHAME ON YOU!! We have been looking for our butler on social media to figure out a means to wire them money via PayPal, Venmo etc they are truly due without success. We are just sick over this whole debacle and pray a solution can be found as this has caused us all unnecessary stress as a result. WONDERFUL cruise and staff - - HORRIBLE Corporate office policy!!! We wanted to go to the Panama Canal and the time of year worked best for both my husband and I. We also thought we'd try a different cruise line (we were very sorry we did). We were on a 14-day NCL Star cruise through the Panama Canal, starting in Miami and ending in Los Angeles. The cruise itself was very good. Enjoyed the canal and the scenery. The ship was good, the room was great, and our cabin stewards were good. First, let me tell you that we have cruised mostly with Holland America. Holland America has some of the best foods we have eaten. Just got off a cruise in September to Alaska, food was fabulous. It's always exciting to see whats on the menu for the night. On the NCL we received the free drink package, 4-specialty dinners, $50 of each room for excursions, 250 minutes internet, and 150 ship to shore minutes (never used). The drink package was NOT FREE. Prior to paying off our cruise amount, we received an unexpected pre-billed amount of approximately $450.00. Call NCL, I found out that this is for the pre-paid amount for the tips for the FREE drink package. So the FREE drinks package was not so free after all. You might think that you're going to drink $450 on your cruise, I think you might be surprised. We were mostly sitting on Deck 6, never once in 14-days did someone come by to ask if we wanted a drink. We would have to take the elevator up to either the casino on Deck 7 or Deck 12 to get a drink. Of course you free package includes only one drink at a time so if you plan to drink, plan to take many trips to and from the bar. The food was the WORST food I ever had on a cruise ship, and I've taken 12 cruises. The main buffet for breakfast in the yogurt bar area was a daily a mass of frozen fruit (berries). They had two egg stations (omelets, poached), took forever sometimes. The food was bland, never any seasoning. On day two I asked if they had any salsa, I was directed to two bottles of tabasco sauce. If you wanted to use the tabasco sauce, you would have to hunt for the bottle on the table(s) (again only two bottles) and asked to use it. Salsa? The food persons would shake their heads "no". The piles of bacon were good. Scrambled eggs, no salt or pepper. WORST FOOD EVER. The main dining room, Versailles and Aqua (another non-reservation restaurant) had the same menu (and is the same menu for both restaurants) for 14-days with the exception of a change in a salad or soup. The main entrees were exactly the same for 14-days in both restaurants. EXACTLY THE SAME. The food was tasteless and bland. For example, they had Chicken Fried Chicken. The meal consisted of a small scoop of mash potatoes (no seasoning), cold slaw (never saw it ever), and small portion of sweet corn (no seasoning), one filet of chicken with no bones (ordered it twice and my husband once), which I am positive had been frozen prior and was of the same height and same roundness, so I'm sure it was packaged. And no, it was not a pounded down piece of breast. Think frozen veal cutlet. And then also received a leg/thigh combo that was oven baked. Honestly I think they were trying to hide the frozen chicken fillet. Leg/thigh combo was breaded and no salt, pepper, or other seasoning. They had a shrimp burger which i did hear people comment on as good. They had a hamburger, the burger was an inch think and had a roll of some kind, which was fresh baked. No seasoning, tasteless. Also on the menu was a Philadelphia cheese steakwhich because my husband is from Philli he wouldn't even order (it looked all bun and tons of bell peppers). Chicken salad sandwich consisted of two ice cream scoops of chicken salad on one piece of bread (hard to eat as a sandwich). Salads consisted of mostly bell peppers and some salad. Sometimes the lettuce was crisp others soggy. In the evenings the specialty restaurants were better. Italian was decent (bland), steak house, steak was good but it was good because it came with a couple different sauces. The steak itself was not cooked with salt or pepper. We ate at the speciality Chinese restaurant. Food was awful after waiting two nights for over an hour to get in. One of the better places was O'Sheehans which was kinda like a pub...but if you ordered Nachos, you had to request 3X's the amount of cheese and sour cream or you ended up with a bowl full of chips. No salsa again. The whole entire time getting a table seemed to be a problem. They ran your card, had to mess with their computer, had to write the table number on a piece of paper, person had to find another person to take you to your table, which also wouldn't be the person waiting on your table. I really loved at the specialty restaurants when you were finished with your meal, they would give you a comment card and request that you filled it out right then and there. Even our local Shari's doesn't do that. Comment cards were always on the tables. Certainly cheapens' your experience. One comment was WORST FOOD EVER! Also, when you used the specialty restaurants, even though they were free to us as part of the package, we still were charged a 20% gratuity for the cost (each menu had a cost per item). When we received our bills it was zero dollars with a note at the bottom that they would charge you 20% gratuity with was on our mail ship bill. Television had that same 4 movies the entire 14 days. Thank goodness for the news channels, which intermittently went off/on. We reported the green screen to the front desk, they sent someone to check out our TV and told us it was the reception. No kidding Sherlock!! With the newer tv's, you can't even get a DVD from the internet cafe. You got what they had and that was it. I did use my 250 internet /wifi minutes and then had to buy some more. It worked great. If you wanted to use your NCL app on your iPhone, you had to log into wifi (hence you use those 250 minutes really fast). Never used the ship to shore telephone calls. Did the excursions, they were good. Room service was excellent as also. We were charged almost $14.50 per person per day for service charge for our room ($29.00 total) which we gladly paid. If you ordered food room service, food was free but you were charged $7.95 for delivery. Room service was better than looking at the tasteless food so I ordered lunch several times. Salad was always crisp. Fruit came fresh. Bottom line, I would NOT RECOMMEND ever going on a Norwegian Cruise Line cruise ever. We went on two cruises last year, food was unbelievable. Both were on Holland America. The closed lobster I saw on NCL was in some corn chowder soup. HAL always has lobster night. NCL FOOD WAS HORRIBLE. LET ME REPEAT MYSELF, HORRIBLE. WARNING, DO NOT GO ON NCL. I was actually relieved to get on an airplane and get some decent food. Thank you Alaska Airlines for making my last day on my 3-week vacation from LAX to PDX an enjoyable and pleasant one, and thank you for the wonderful food. Read Less

There is practically nothing to do on that ship. One good show in 14 days, boring violin music (sometimes) most of the time no music at all. Decent music on pool deck but all chairs reserved so no place to sit. Most people on that cruise were playing cards or reading. Drinks are watered down so bad that you can't tell if they have alcohol in them or not. Food not terrible but nothing great either. Lounge chairs are reserved (some people leave the towel on them overnight so no one can use the chairs the next day and they don't show up until 2pm (I checked and towels are left overnight) staff should pick them up after an hour or so if no one shows up on chairs. Went through Panama canal but crew had blocked the view on deck 7 so everybody was on deck 12-13 so we couldn't see anything then they try to sell you the pictures that their photographs took. Service stinks, waiters are also bored and it shows, if you want a drink you have to go get it yourself because waiters will not come and see if you want something. Most of the time you're ignored. Drinks are watered down, there is a 20% gratuity automatically added to the bill and they want more... Bottom line: If you're under 85 years old, get on a different ship Read Less

Just wanted to get away for New Years.....we had taken several NCL cruises in the past so we felt comfortable choosing them again. We like cruising because we like to be pampered and enjoy some nice meals while we relax. We usually boook suites in the Haven just for these reasons. NCL totally dropped the ball on this cruise..... My wife was horrified at the spa.....a woman was assigned to her who had never done a massage in her life.....she burped in my wifes ear every 2 minutes....when she asked to speak to a manager, she was avoided for 3 days and then told that there was nothing that could be done. We went to the buffets that were lacking any flavor or variety.....nobody was putting any extra effort into anything !!!! We tried to go to O'Sheehans for a "break" and were served wings with feathers still on them......we pointed this out to our server who looked at us strange and asked us when we expected her to do about it !!!! The specialty restaurants were just not up to par......we have dined at these restaurants SO many times in the past and we know what its SUPPOSED to be like......its just as if nobody cares anymore...... Thank God we already knew the Haven concierge from a previous NCL cruise to Italy....if not for her and our butler, this would have been even MORE of a nightmare. I believe that NCL came up with a great idea for their freestyle cruising....and that this gave them a lot of business.....unfortunately, they are now obviously resting on past laurels. I sent in all of this (and more) on a survey and nobody from NCL responded..... At this point, I really dont expect them to and we will probably cancel our Fall Foliage cruise with them for later this year..... Absolutely no fun involved at all when you are looking more forward to getting home than being on the cruise !!!!! At least when I got home, I only had my wife yelling at me....on the cruise, I had to deal with the "bingo-mama" and the other "entertainment staff" that was clearly more comfortable questioning the perceptions of the passengers rather than trying to address any possible problems..... At least I was happy to get home to my own toilet.....lol......the one in our cabin would spit the toilet water back up at the person sitting there every 2 minutes......never asked for a bidet....??? My dining experience was varied. The upgraded dining experiences were nice. The buffet was the worst, was like cheap theme park food. Not flavorful, cold, cheap, just generally bad. The seating was terrible, too. It was always a challenge to find a place to sit. Versailles was almost as bad and there were times it took over an hour to get our meal. You had to chase down the servers to refill your water and other beverages. I ended up with food poisoning from eating here. Aqua was decent, but you really need to make a reservation or you'll have to try your luck on getting a seat. Cagney's, Le Bistro, and Moderno were really good. La Cucina was below average and they forgot my order, so I had to watch the rest of my party eat. The bars and lounges were comfortable, but never wait for a cocktail server it's 10 times faster to just go get it yourself. I ordered the same drinks from the same bartenders and not once did they ever remember my drink order. Entertainment & activities, on their website they mention a murder luncheon, improv comedy group, unicycle riding jugglers, etc. and there was none of that at all. Most of the stardust shows were good, except the comedian, we all walked out. As for the activities, they were almost all just excuses to sell you something. We tried the board games, but there really wasn't a place to play them, they kicked us out of the cafeteria area and it was too cold to sit outside. The pool was small and awkward, so we didn't bother with that either. The entertainment staff were all very nice and energetic and they tried their best to keep the cruise positive and upbeat. My stateroom was pretty good and my steward was very attentive. My only issue was my neighbor kept smoking on their balcony, so it would come into my room. I complained to the front desk, but it didn't help. The casino is great if you want to smell like an ashtray, it's so thick that the smell of smoke will stick to your clothes if you are in there for more than 5 minutes. I can't speak to the shore excursions because the only excursion I did was to go get immodium, thanks Versailles. I'd heard such great things about cruises, so was extremely disappointed in my first cruise. Read Less

I can not begin to describe the number of ways we were let down by this line. First booking... the process was easy enough or so we thought. The Norwegian customer service who provided all our rooms and took our money gave us lots of wrong information. She would not let us set dinner reservations for a party of 8 and let us know the kids drink package we purchased included frozen drinks like daiquiris or pina coladas — it did not When we were getting on the ship we chose a time. That time just allowed us to sit in a bleak room longer After getting on the ship I tried to procure a few dinner reservations. I was told that coul not be done for such a large party (8). They were already overbooked in the dinning rooms and other parties booked months in advance. (Something the Norwegian travel agent would not allow us to do) The first night we waited over an hour to get in a restaurant not a specialty restaurant, the wait was an hour. And we arrived at 5 when the dinning hall opened. After waiting an hour we were seated where dinner took over 3 hours. The food was salty and as you can imagine the service was not great. This type of service continued for the entire trip. By the way every cut of beef comes with the same over salty brown sauce. Lobster and escargot were never served. The food was fair in the dinning room compared to the tasteless food served in the buffet. I brought this to the attention of the guest relations desk where thewould “check into it”. I heard back the 5th day of a 7 day cruise. The life guards were on power trips! Even leaving the poolside to yell at guests. The people welcoming you into the buffet would spray cleaning solution on your hands as you walked in. My daughter was allergic to the solution yet the still sprayed her without her permission. The bar tenders are rude and when ordering a monitor we were yelled at that they had no mint and to stop asking for monitors ( it was the second day of the trip). After the cruise I tried to talk to someone about the problems. After waiting a month from filling out an online form (they were not willing to speak with me only by written communication) I called to see what was being done to help rectify this awful experience for future travelers . Nothing to be done I was told however they were willing to give me a credit of 50.00 to spend at their on board stores (also lacking anything worth buying other than jewelry) for future cruises. DONT DO IT! Go to ANY another cruise line! I am a frequent cruiser. I have been on more than 40 cruises and I have NEVER experienced a cruise line with lower amount of service and pride in their work. Read Less

Do not cruise this company. The second cruise with them I had taken. My toilet overflowed from day one repeatedly and they did not change our room. My personal belongings being ruined and they did not replace. We were forced to sleep in a sewer smelling room for 8 days. They said they would refund us at the end of the cruise but instead they have us a 100 dollar credit and said that was enough compensation. The food was horrific, it was worse then airplane food, so much of it was unedible, we couldn’t bare to eat it most of the time. The ship was so filthy and so packed full of people. Bathrooms were disgusting, pool was nasty and jacuzzis unsanitary, as well as all of them being cold. I can not believe they did not refund anything after this experience. Do not waste your money, try another cruise line. Read Less

We chose this cruise so we could take our granddaughter and great granddaughter as they live in southern California. Service was poor, toilet wouldn’t flush all of the time. Staff not trained nearly as well as other cruise lines. We were Totally ignored in a couple of the restaurants. Finally had to go and find a waiter. Will never use Norwegian cruise lines again. Worst cruise ever and we have taken 24 cruises to date including a couple of Norwegian. The majority of the time the room stewards never spoke, smiled or never greeted you by name like other cruise ships. My husband found a hair in his drink, got it replaced and found another on the fruit. With unlimited beverage package you are not trying to get a free drink as suggested by the bar attendant. Great granddaughter was 5. Nothing much for her to do except swim in a cold pool. Read Less

Iteinerary, ports of call and group travel were three main reasons for selecting this cruise. Customer service was horrible. Rude staff. Dirty underwear left in room from previous guests. Food was mediocre and food service was horrible. Food served cold. Our room steward never introduced himself, room was super noisy and they refused to move us until the fourth nite and in the middle of the night. Some other guest vomited in the elevator, when we called for help we were hung up on. Buffet food was mediocre and not enough seating to accommodate everyone. Food service staff was slow and not friendly. Dining rooms Aqua and Versailles as well as Osheehans restaurant was bad as well. Super slow service, orders were wrong and waiters/waitresses were rude. Not enough servers in bars, theater or pool area. Always had to get up and find someone and they seemed bothered and annoyed. Read Less

No information provided by NCL on where to find the shuttle bus in Civitavecchia from the train. Aft facing Penthouse suite had serious mold issue at our arrival that was never resolved. We chose this room and cruise specifically to relax. We couldn’t even sleep well with the horrible air quality let alone relax in the suite. We both ended up sick by the end of the cruise. Room did not look refreshed (2014) Furniture and bath sink were beat up. Concierge was invisible during the cruise. We ate at all but one of the specialty dining options and ate at the main dining room and buffet. Food was mediocre quality and almost always cold. At the Specialty restaurants and dining rooms, service was slow and food was barely warm. The two shore excursions we did through NCL were not great. The St. Martin excursion was basically a bus ride to the French side where we were dropped off at tourist tents for an hour. Bus driver/ tour guide did nothing more than repeating the same three things he had memorized and the bus smelled of burnt rubber. The Barcelona tour was better, both the bus and actually had a tour guide, but the description did not explain we would be dropped at Mt Montserrat for two hours. Barcelona port had shuttle buses from the port to downtown that were inexpensive (make sure you have a few euros). We do not recommend this ship and are very disappointed in the NCL experience compared to our previous NCL cruise. Read Less

I chose it for it having Madeira scheduled as a stop. That stop was cancelled. I have been on many cruises on at least nine different lines and by far, this is the most disgusting ship that I have ever been on. The staff are young, inexperienced, and poorly trained and many don't speak enough intelligible English. They hang in slap happy packs and seem to look at you blankly when you ask for something. I had several instances of being almost knocked down by rude staff with no social skills who cross in front of you and run to get ahead of you. The public bathrooms were hard to find and many had toilets that didn't flush. The casino was smoke filled and dirty. I watched two instances were tri-poker players were so drunk that they kept throwing around chips and they were kept in fresh drinks. This is definitely poor sporting. everything about this cruise was a hustle to buy buy buy cheap tee shirts and jewelry...you are bombarded by flyers in y our room every night and even get harassed on the phone to stop by for cruise deals. Our luggage tag color coded was forgotten and we consequently had to wait on the hot deck with no shade or water. Many elderly and immobile people were suffering. This ship is a disgrace of poor management. Someone needs to be fired. BTW, if it was a potato, a pasta, or a rice dish, it was served every day..day in and day out.....food was not hot enough either.... Read Less

Having cruised with NCL before, we trusted that we would be allocated nice cabins so were disgusted when we arrived in our 4th deck rooms. Realizing that we were in the bowels of the ship, with the engine room just below us and unable to move to a higher deck as we were told that the ship was full and nothing was available, we spent a week of sleepless nights with the engines whining and whining the nights away. Being used to a good selection of food in the buffet restaurants we found fat pretending to be bacon, scrambled eggs like powder or even cuscus, although there was an egg station cooking good fresh eggs and omlettes, to our dismay we had a choice of either tomatoes or beans or searching all around the restaurant to try to find the missing article. There were special menus each day and some were quite nice but only some. Trying the other restaurants onboard meant long waits and in O’sheans bar and restaurant, even though it was almost empty we were told that if we were not eating, we had to move and get our own drinks from the bar. We found the excursions to be very rushed and where we had to take a tender to shore we needed to be up at the crack of dawn to que in massive lines to get tickets. On Santarini the que for the cable car was three hour and so, because the ship departure was within that time we had to walk down the disgusting, smelly and dangerous donkey steps. This was one of the most traumatic, terrifying and exhausting experiences of any holiday, ever and totally ruined our holiday, all because we had to be back on board. AND we never did see much of the town of Fira. At every stage of this holiday we felt like cattle, or more like sheep and not like clients who should be respected, bearing in mind the high cost of this cruise, we expected much better service. First of all the ship was not in time to leave. When we arrived my package did not go through the drink included, i did ask for it because it was promoted to me when i bought the cruise. Some of are friends paid 750$us less then us and they had a bigger balcony,3 meals in speciality restaurant+drink package. We had to buy a wine Package onboard because regular wine taste like Kool-aid. Cagney's Steak house was a 6 out of 10. Cucina Italian restaurant we had to wait 40 min before appetizer food 5 out of 10,it was the birthday of my girl-friend and i have ask the Maitre of D for special service ,they gave us a piece of cake in a plastic contenant with the bill,SERIOUS !!! Japanese restaurant good food but not the best the food 6 out of 10. The show was between two cooks standing back to back we could'n here a thing, not funny and poor skills. Bistro French restaurant had a lot more class the service was excellent for a big kitchen but not very much ambiance no music and to much light, food 8 out of 10. All the other restaurant were serving you faster than McDonald's they want out so fast and it's very very noisy, food 3 out of 10. In cafeteria the food does not taste the best employee look stressed out and tired. If you want to go to Kotor the stairs are jam packed with unhappy people. We had to pay for water bottle on board, they charge you 3% to play casino and the dealer makes mistakes drawing card not very un-professional. You pay for to many things with NCL never again, this was my 20th cruise in life and i was not the only one un-happy !!!! Read Less

My husband and I booked this cruise very last minute for our anniversary We have cruised with Royal Caribbean a few months ago and had very pleasant experience. Since Royal Caribbean was sold out, we decided to book with NCL because of the ports of call we were interested in. It was a completely different experience in a very negative way. Everything was so unorganized. Service was horrible. Entertainment was bad. Games shows were horrendous, no body even attended the games shows. Food was OK but then again the whole dining experience was so unorganized. You have to put your name down and you get a table 45 minutes later. They advertise on the website that the ship has a slide. Well, guess what?! it DOESNT. There are not much activities on the ship. It has a small pool and all the beds are usually taken. Guest services representatives who are supposed to help you and be the nicest ones, have major attitude. The cabin is OK size but ours smelled really bad when we boarded and there was a pluming problem that they ended up fixing. They don't even give you a bottle of wine for your anniversary. They just put a card in our room to take to dinner the night we decided to celebrate. We took the card and they brought us a cake that we did not even touch .The desert on the menu was better than this cake. The only thing I liked was t he LA CUCCINA specialty restaurant. The food was great and staff were very nice and friendly. I would not travel on NCL again, I felt more stressed and pissed off on this ship, instead of being relaxed and enjoying on my vacation and anniversary. Royal Caribbean was the best, there was not one nothing I can complain about. The ports of calls were good. We didn't purchase any shore excursions and you really don't need to. When you get off the ship, there are tours and taxis waiting and it's much cheaper. In Corfu, we did hop on - hop off for 20 euros a person. Read Less

Even if the embankment process was properly planned I don’t know if I’d ever go on a cruise again. I had high expectations of my first cruise and won’t ever go again. The ship made port 6 hours after we were expected to be on board because someone decided to jump of the stern of the ship. We arrived at the terminal and 12 hours later were still in terminal. They skipped the first port and didn’t even have check in staff at the terminal until 5 pm where we had to wait in a 3 hour queue. No food or water was available to us for compensation and we only received a $50 credit for the experience. We were cut in queue multiple time which led to a 3 hour wait to get in. The only saving grace to the cruise was our cabin steward Rodel and the Spa staff. The food was soggy and cold aside for the pasta line which wasn’t exactly fresh. Dining wasn’t great as all the food was previously frozen and you were able to taste that. The entertainment kept me entertained but this cruise didn’t live up to what I was told. Even without the embarkment disaster this was an average with our steward and spa staff being the real saving grace. The shows were decent for cruise, I wasn’t expecting Cirque du Soliel or anything but it did it’s job and was fun. It was nice to get to all the sites that we did but it was more of a highlight cruise. I would’ve loved to spend more time in Corfu and Mykonos and also See Kotor but this cruise failed to deliver. The majority of staf was blah which is probably a reflection on how staff is treated by the company so that may be a factor. It’s a good cruise if you’re looking to hit plenty of Adriatic coast sites but I didn’t even get that so it failed. Miserably. Don’t take this cruise or cruise line company. The company probably treats its staff like crap and it shows in the way they treated us on this cruise. Read Less

It was my first cruise and I was so excited... felt so important at check in with the priority class and getting on the ship with everything that I was told that the ship had and the marketing materials made me so excited not to mention what friends had said about cruising... our suite was wonderful from a location, size and amenities it offered as far as private staff. Our suite is what we have to say positive... all 2600 of us set sail and the weather is so beautiful that we all would like to hit the pools... yes I said pools plural that means more then 1.... well to our surprise no there are no longer 3 pools but now only 1 for ALL of us and the 1 pool is extremely SMALL so imagine how clean that was... gross .. my husband wouldn’t even go in it and I sat on the outside edge... mind you everyday was 85+ with high humidity...yes they had hot tubs but that was where the overflow of kids went since there was only 1 pool.. it was so gross not only did I watch diapers loaded go in the pool but I saw a man peeing in the shower on deck and his junk out of the leg opening if his suit... I was appalled. I asked about the 2 hot tubs on the front now directly in front of out room and they said those are for the crew.... unbelievable...When I asked staff why we were NOT told of the changes to the ship ???I was told that a remodel was done in May and that they have told the company to change the marketing many times, but it still has not been. The water slides were also removed ... dining, well we thought we would go to Versailles the first night no reservations but it was 9 pm so should be no problem... not so much 30 minute wait and so was aqua everyone was mumbling about it then the menus was average as well as the food. Next night we did aqua and guess what it was the same menu from the other restaurant the night prior... my husband inquired and they said it’s not supposed to be that way... we ate at all of the restaurants on the ship except Ginza and they all were par at best. The buffet was a disappointment each time we went.... I have had amazing buffets at all inclusive resorts that don’t cost as much as going on this ship. I will say that the crew is very nice and when talking with some of the staff they said it’s hard to find staff because it’s not worth the pay... we were fortunate when tendering into ports but for others the process is ludicrous... but returning on ship is a huge line no matter what. So have patience..... Croatia was a joke 5 buses for the costa ship line to our 1 as people had no water and waited in line for over 1 1/2 hours. Once on the ship the evenings were all the same and there was nothing romantic on the ship, no dancing under the moonlight or dining outside... the entertainment poolside in the day was 1 day for 30 minutes... worst experience and I do A LOT of traveling.. For the money we spent to come from the Midwest to Venice to take this cruise was such a waste. I feel we were dooped based on what was advertised and what is reality. Greece is great go there but not on NCL Star!!!! Read Less

We have lot of trip with Norwegian and never been so bad and disappointed. We choose Norwegian Star due to the route which has excellent ports. The disembarkation process on the ports is the worse of the worse on my experience traveling on cruise. They don’t care if you are bronze or ambassador or stay on a suite they make a jumble at the time of get out of the cruise. Super bad communication on providing process of last day disembarkation including rudeness from the staff knowing they are wrong. The tender system is the worse they make you wake up early to get the ticket to get out. Receive the luggage broken, room incomplete turndown & vague explanation from service desk. Food: Five times get the food cold “Mean Fridge Mode Cold” on O’Sheehan Bar & Grill and the service was rude. Uff! Ok I debrief and take it out from the system … now there are few good things. The Specialize dining restaurants are excellent – The ports are great and beautiful – The Capitan is great- Read Less

First i this is my 7th cruise and i have seen good and bad, but i have never written a review, I booked this cruise (4 cabins) for a large family cruise. One of the rooms (10093) had a large constant vibration. It did not matter if the ship was at sea or docked. Several cruise employees came to listen and agreed that this was very bad (kept passengers awake) and that they would get back to me on a solution. Their solution was a $5 bottle of wine. I told them this was not acceptable and after politely discussing the situation for several days, they offered me a $100 credit toward anything on the ship. I found this insulting as we paid over $3000 for the trip. The ship is old and needs to be retired. The food on the ship was absolutely horrible the first two nights in the dinning room, but after that it was like normal cruise food for the last 6 nights. The dinning staff was average, and i have seen better on other cruises. The stateroom was clean and the steward was fine, but not as friendly as other cruises. I have always watched the entertainment "shows" on all the cruises. The shows on this sailing were so bad, i only sat through one show completely. Read Less

We have never sailed on the Norwegian Line before. We stayed in a mini-suite #11160 sailing from the port of Venice on July 1, 2018. As for the positives. The ship itself was fine as far as the decor and there was a good variety of food with fresh fruit even available towards the end of the cruise. The service in the main dining room at night was good. The entertainment was very good and we really enjoyed Shimmy Goodman - he was fabulous! As for the ports of call - these were all FABULOUS and we appreciated arriving early to many of the ports. We have never experience arriving early to ports of calls before and this was very helpful! We did not book any of the Norwegian excursions. Also our teenagers did not participate in their teen program. At embarkation check-in, clerk mismatched photos so my husband’s ID showed up as my photo, and my ID brought up his photo. After another 15 minutes said it was fixed but it was not and the rest of the cruise we had to switch cards. After check-in and going to room, discovered the mini-suite cabin was DIRTY. White air conditioning cover on the ceiling had something all over it (black/grey – looked almost like ashes). Then there was the extremely filthy balcony door handle inside – with black on the white and dried BLOOD. The outside handle was also very dirty. See the photographs. Brought to room steward's attention and was eventually cleaned. The in-room cabin safe, malfunctioned on two different days and was eventually replaced. Bedding in cabin was a problem. Duvet cover opened at top and came down which is when we discovered how filthy and stained the comforter was underneath. See photographs. Buffet dining service lacked waiters cleaning tables and too often the tables were not totally cleaned. We experienced removal of dishes, napkins, but no one wiping tables clean. The Daily program of entertainment activities time schedule showed the life-size chess game being open until 11 p.m. However, our teenagers were in the middle of a life-size chess game and were told it was closing. This was 45 minutes earlier than the program showed and when the staff member was informed they said it was still closing and began picking up the pieces. Also the Daily program had incorrect weather every day for the ports of call. It appears they left the weather from previous cruises on it since the weather was so opposite. For example, Athens was 20 degrees warmer than what it showed. In the pool area the towel station was closed when the hot tubs were still open. Many young children were in the hot tubs. Children told us this was because the hot tubs were shallow unlike the main family pool which was at least 5'6" deep without any shallow areas. Our cruise included 250 internet minutes which around day 5 of the cruise we had 120 minutes left. We logged-out of the ship WIFI that evening. The next morning it showed that we had no minutes left and that we had exceeded our limitation of using data. The service we received to correct this problem was terrible. We were told we should have turned WIFI off instead of just logging out. Attached is the direction sheet we received and followed which failed to state turning WIFI off. The WIFI also was very slow. We have sailed on over 10 cruises with three other lines and have NEVER experienced anything like what we went through on this cruise. Read Less
