Last Bahama cruise before hurricane Dorian. The ports will not look the same for years. Donated to help those affected. Such a tradegy. Best 5 day cruise.ever. Inexpensive; Inside room for 2 under $700 total. Food was good, better than other NCL cruises in the oast Theatre entertainment was fantastic: singers and dancers were very professional. Singers also danced and did quite well. Free booze was added bonus though no longer available after September Normally take longer cruises but took this cruise for relaxation and not for tours and sightseeing. Close to home (Orlando),great price Would take this ship again to different ports Only negative comment: unless taking tours in Freeport ( swimmkng with pigs?) or a beach, not much to do but visit the shops at the dock. Docks are no longer in Freport proper. Shopping center 30 minutes away by bus and through new was literally EMPTY of tourists. Read Less

I was very skeptical going on this cruise after reading some pretty poor reviews on the Sun. I took my 2.5 year old son and mom on this cruise and it was actually wonderful... for the most part. Embarkation and debarkation was super awesome - easy and fast. The best of any cruise line. The open bar was fantastic....some bartenders were great....others not at all. We got a balcony room and it was perfect. The room service was way below average. They came and made beds and exchanged towels...that's it. A lot of people were loud and drunk all night and a few nights they kept me up. The four seasons dining experience was awful. The my time dining wasnt for us oddly enough. Service was lackluster and food was not good. However, Cagneys Steakhouse, one of the specialty dining restaurants was amazing! From the service to staff to the food, it was the highlight of our trip. Was not a fan of the private island. Yes, it's pretty but that's it. The beach is full of sharp rocks so walking into the water is painful and not recommended. We were very bored. I did the blue lagoon in nassau and it was one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to and my favorite day on the cruise. There isnt much for kids....at all. I knew this before going, but it really is no fun for kids. They have one tiny kids pool with small slide we found that my son loved .....and the splash academy was nice. Just not enough. The whip is very small. The staff loved my son and went out of their way to interact with him and most of th4m remembered his name. It was very special. Overall....I had a fantastic time. Read Less

This was our first cruise with Norwegian. We had seen the ads and wanted to make our own oppinion. While the Sun is an older ship, it had been refurbished last year and the results were quite pleasing. The ships overall apperience was one of a new ship. It has been well maintained and is quite pleasant to cruise on. The air conditioning system was excellent, the lighting and plumbing were great. All of the physical plant made the cruise enjoyable and relaxing. The dining and service was very satisfactory and the bars were great. The shows were all very good and the entertainment was varied. The cruise provided enough obtions as far as times and types of entertainment that the evenings werw always enjoyable. we did not utilize shore excursions as we were just there for relaxation. But we did enjoy Great Stirrup Cay. It was great day in the sun/sea. The emarcation and demarcation went smoothly. We were very satisfied with Norwegian Sun and the NCL. While this was our first cruise with NCL it wont be our last. Read Less

It felt like the ship was sailing half empty! We had smooth sailing only a little rain. We booked this 3 day because we were going to visit my parents in Florida so we were flying into Orlando anyways. We got to the port around 10 and because we had latitudes status we were one of he first ones on the ship and had our first drink in hand by 11:30! We checked out he buffet and at 12 went to have lunch in the dining room. They have comment cards to rate your experience so I filled one out and the next day when we got back on the ship after great stirrup cay we had chocolate covered strawberries waiting for us from the chef! The food in the dining room was very good and the buffet was ok, not much variety but taste was good. On great stirrup cay we rented mats that were $16 each but we had the $50 shore excursion credit so they were free! In Nassau we got off the ship around 9 and there was hardly anyone around, we walked around and shopped and then headed back to the ship a little after 11 and people we headed off the 4 ships docked in droves!! We got back on and enjoyed time in the pool to cool off. We saw the comedy show by Alex Ortiz and it was excellent!! We also enjoyed some late night wings at the sports bar and although it didn’t have the variety that osheehans on the bigger boats have, they were still delicious. Disembarkation was easy, we had a leisurely breakfast in the dining room and then went up to the chaos in the buffet and went to the great outdoors and enjoyed one last mudslide before we headed off the ship a little after 9:00. We did have to wait in a line at customs but we were also waiting for my mom to come pick us up so we were in no rush. If we were there were porters there you could tip and they would take your luggage for you and take you to the front of the line. My only complaint was the cruise was too short!! That and there were no towel animals Read Less

had a lot of people tell me about cruising, so I decide to try it for myself and wife my overall experience with the Norwegian cruise is that it had unlimited drinks and if you booked a stateroom you get 2 free offers. I choose premium drinks, and speciality dining. but was disappointed when I try to order mich ultra beer no bars on the ship had it, I only drink beers no hard stuff.so that was 1 disappointment on the first day, we boarded at 2.00pm and barely got lunch from the outside café buffet bar, before all the restaurant closed for 45 mins for initiation drill. that is another disappointment, food were only at buffet stations during the days made up of hot dogs and burgers, salad, fruits, cakes. that is no no for me it cost 1300 for 3days to come and eat hot dogs and burgers all day long. also restaurant for fine dining only open at 4.00pm or 5.oopm before you can eat something better than buffet.it should be open all day and night long for passenger to choose. desk service was poor for me and my wife had a women at the desk never smile when you ask a question about the excursion she will answer very short not reassuring us about anything else. I don't think I will pay 1300 to 1400 dollars for 3 day cruise for just hot dogs and burgers during the day it too over rated for me. Read Less

This is our second time on the Norwegian Sun. It's a quick drive for us to get to and we enjoy getting away for a quick, relaxing weekend. On a previous cruise we met the principal singer Drake Allen. What an absolute pleasure to listen to him each night. He is a talented singer and guitar player and the crowd really enjoys listening to him. I hope we run into him on a future cruise! There was also a new group of singers and dancers at the Starlight Theatre. They were definitely better than the group in May. We met Jamieson and Liam personally and they were genuine and gifted performers. Embarkation continues to be slow however the disembarkation was a breeze! The areas of the ship that were refreshed look much better than previously. The mirrors in the bathrooms and the shower curtains need to be replaced as they bring down the overall effort that was made to spruce her up. The restaurants were very good this time and the staff was very pleasant. We have nothing but good to say about each meal we had. We did not get off the ship for excursions as this was truly a relaxing voyage for us and loved every minute of it. Read Less

Sailed out of Port Canaveral. We love Port Canaveral-from the parking garage to the terminal right onto the ship, everything went smooth. It is very clean and we felt very safe. Disembarkation from our cabin to our car-under 10 minutes, easiest one ever. The Ship was quite lovely and felt "new" inside. Everything was clean (with the exception of the restroom near the pool outside buffet door) YUCK! The outside of the ship could stand a little attention as she feels a bit "tired". For the most part the staff was great. Our stateroom host was wonderful. She kept our cabin clean and our ice bucket full. Bar servers were ok, just not enough of them on a ship with Open Bar for all. But they tried to keep up. We did have the premium beverage package, but ran into the bars/bar tenders not have the "premium" wine or the bartender just didnt want to open a bottle. We wouldnt do the premium package again. It doesn't include the coffee (Starbucks), and its just not worth the extra $$ for us. We were in an Oceanview (obstructed Oceanview) which was great. We kept the curtains closed for the most part (we were on the promenade deck, 6th floor. This room had so much storage, wow. It was at the end of a passageway so it was very quiet, and the AC was cold! We ate in the Seven Seas Dining room and the food was meh. Definitely an area they can improve on. We enjoyed Sushi one night and it was good. Le Bistro consistently knocks it out of the park with food and service!. We did try Los Lobos and while service was very good, we probably won't be back. Food was just ok. We enjoyed the Sports Bar and wish it was open longer hours. Read Less

Booking a aft balcony suite is the way to go when cruising. Gian our Conceirge, Francis our butler and Anvasih our cabin steward could not of been more perfect. Travelled with my 2 nieces 13 and 10. Yes the Sun is an older ship but was in good shape. Free drinks and non alcoholic drinks were free. The world show and the comedian were very good and the variety of things to do was appropriate for this cruise. In port every day. The shore excursion in Nassau with the sea lions at Blue Lagoon was the best. Don’t miss this opportunity. The Sun was easy to navigate to the different venues. The Four Seasons the complimentary dinning option was excellent. Wait staff said they just changed the menu. A great place to dine every evening. Only went to Teppanyaki specialty restaurant and this was the best!! What a show and great food. Try the calamari. I can’t say enough about this dining experience... dining for suite guests for breakfast and lunch was fantastic in Cagneys . I only found 2 smoking areas, the top deck 12 at the Champs bar and the casino. Champs bar was packed all the time as well as all table games in the casino. The Sun is still a wonderful ship! Chose this cruise because of the date, itinerary, the port, and recommendations from a friend. Was happy with most things, wish there had been one more day but that was our choice. Dined in the preferred dining restaurants only for dinner and food was excellent, especially enjoyed Le Bistro and Cagney’s because service was excellent! Buffet was hard to get anything and at breakfast when we did get to eat the food was cold. Decided room service was worth the $7.95 service fee although the selection was limited. Was disappointed in things for teenagers to do on the ship. The private island stop was nice, we did get a cabana which made it extra special. There was some confusion with other guest in disembarking and the required documents and because of rain and thunderstorms the line for the tender was long and slow. Unfortunately our children had to experience a few drunken passengers on the ride back! Read Less

This was a last minute trip and we were able to get a cabin in a great position (9 Starboard/Aft) and perks included 1 special restaurant meal, 100 min of wifi, and drinks package. Our TA upgraded the drinks package to Premium Plus which got us the nicer brands as well as bottle water, Gatorade etc. This sailing was packed with families (last week before school starts locally) and packed with many Bridal-Girls getaways. Embarkation-- Super smooth. We were at the pier by 11:30 and they were already boarding group 2...having already boarded Priority folks. Waited maybe 10 min to board (group 13) Lunch--plenty of choices for lunch. Daily Buffet is fine. Bar service at Great Outdoors Cafe was slow at embarkation compared to our last sailing (Aug '18). Sail Away in the Spinnaker Lounge-- they have some but not all of the brands of wines/liquors on the Premium Plus Package. Still they had a few to choose from and the view is great. First Night-Dinner at Le Bistro was EXCEPTIONAL. We enjoyed our meal so very much. The service was outstanding. Food was one of the best at land or sea. The smoked duck salad is delightful. The duck is tender and moist, a hint of smoke and is perfectly pink. Escargot was delicious--plenty of garlic and butter. The rack of lamb -- ordered rare was cooked to perfection. Dining companion thoroughly enjoyed the Steak au Poive. Because we had the Premium Plus bev package we enjoyed plenty of Veuve Cliquot and an incredible bottle of Chateauneuf du Pape. The head waiter chose wisely--the wine was a perfect pairing. We were so please with our meal and wrote out cards to thank both the server and chef. Word was sent to the Chef at how much we enjoyed our dinner-- he came out to our table to greet us. A very nice and thoughtful gesture. (Chef agreed the server choose the wine well too!) Grand Stirrup Cay-- we stayed on the ship to enjoy the quiet. Tendering to the island was taking a good deal of time. From what we heard from those who enjoyed the beach--they said the beaches were very nice. Second Night- Dinner MDR -- We had a table by the aft windows and enjoyed a lovely view over dinner. Service was exceptionally good. Again our Premium + package allowed the waiter to bring us a great bottle of red which paired perfectly with the Pappardelle and Braised Short rib. We tried the Gnocchi with pesto... and they were perfectly cooked. We wished the pesto was bolder and similar to the pesto on our starter/app. (garlicky and bold with basil) The flourless chocolate cake was excellent as was the fig/apple crumble. Bliss Lounge- Went to hear the Reggae band and stayed for the "Not so Newlywed Game". Hilarious. Nassau-- Rain squalls blew through as we planned to walk into town-- so back to the pool deck for us. Once folks returned from excursions the pool deck was mobbed.MOBBED. Lines at the bar were slow and they claimed to have no Gatorade. They were so busy no one would go fetch it. Disappointed because not having Gatorade on the Pool deck (part of our bev package) --it a real "miss" in service. The DJ cranked up the music which was entirely TOO LOUD. Our phone decibel screening put it Waaaaay up there.. It was absurd and unnecessary. Third Night- MDR -- after having several great meals in MDR on our Aug 2018 sailing on the Sun... and dinner the night before being so great---our last night's dinner in MDR was a miss all the way around and an unpleasant surprise. Apps-The potstickers were yummy as were the cheesy potato app. That is where the bright spot ends for this meal. The app of Asian noodles salad was so under seasoned--it was as though they forgot the dressing. The seabass was so overcooked and VERY dry. We should have sent it back. The Calamari over orzo was ok..we had it as a side dish. Desserts were all misses, the cannolli was not nearly as decadent as a ricotta filled cannoli should be, the coconut cake had no real coconut flavor and the carrot cake was missing spices and a decent cream cheese icing. Service was good and the waiter choose an excellent Sauvignon Blanc. Stateroom-- Our stateroom seemed like it had been refurbished. The cabinets were in great shape (amazing amounts of storage) and the bathroom was in great shape. Carpets, drapes, bedding all were decent. This differed from last year's stateroom Aug '18 also on this ship. Last year--our stateroom on deck 8 was in bad shape and the cabinet drawer fronts were loose. Stateroom attendant.. rarely saw him.... Room was spotless. WiFi We had 100 min of wifi and when I tried to connect-- it was so slow/bogged down, I gave up. Turned the cell phone back to airplane mode Misses-- --At Guest Services I asked for distilled water for CPAP about 2pm embarkation. Didn't arrive. T So the next morning when we saw our attendant -he said that the Guest Services had not gotten a message to him. He fetched the water for use the other nights. --Bartenders at pool deck were overwhelmed. Got wrong orders and the bar was out of Gatorade. Bartenders had eyes and attention for the girls-trip groups in thong bikinis and overlooked others. In fact the girls in front of myself and an older woman behind me--ordered for us at the bar because the bartenders seemed to not "see" us. My traveling companion had the same problem with other bartenders as well. Hits--Exceptional meal and Exceptional service at Le Bistro. Stateroom was kept very clean. MDR Seven Seas Dining staff works hard and delivers nice service. Hit/Miss-- Kitchen for MDR--after having several great meals-- delivered one evening of almost all misses. Read Less

Older ship but well appointed. Some nicer underused areas to escape from crowds. Took our 7 month old and 7 year old. We had a mini suite with balcony which was good for us and 2 kids, the bigger bathroom helped. Like how they made drinks available since it was all inclusive, not big lines to get a drink. Included dining felt good compared to other cruise lines. Most the staff were very nice and prompt. Thought the bar staff was the best overall. Few things I didn't like .. steakhouse quality/taste wasn't good compared to specialty dining in other lines. The guppies playroom was dirty and people were walking with dirty shoes on the floor mat/play area for them. We wouldn't let our baby down to play in there. Buffet always seemed crowded and hard to find a seat without being blasted by hot air. Would cruise on NCL again. Read Less

Recently sailed to Key West and Bahamas and loved the ship experience. Ship was clean, staff was friendly, entertainment was good. Dining was well above average; for-fee dining was superb, included dining was pretty good! Service on the ship and upkeep was excellent. Seems like the maintenance staff was always repainting and the ship was updated and in good condition. The ship has limited pools and these get crowded, especially in the afternoon. The layout would be most boring for kids (the kids pool is TINY!). Only drawback on this entire adventure was the ports of call. Each left much to be desired. Freeport (Grand Bahama) remains fairly devastated following past hurricane. Nothing to do there. Nassau was just ok (excursion is a must as the town is so-so). I would totally travel with Norwegian again but would never visit these ports of call with this liner or another. In addition, the next cruise I take will need to have more pool options! Read Less

This particular cruise that we took was a re-route from Cuba. The price was good and I wanted to see Freeport which I hadnt seen in years. The Norwegian Sun is an older ship, but was surprisingly fun and very enjoyable. The nighttime shows were excellent with a huge cast and a very big stage. The only two things I didnt like was the casino which was so smokey I could only take it for 15 minutes. And for me the sports bar was pretty lame. Other than that things were pretty darn good. I loved Freeport. We took a taxi to the market and the driver then took us on to Lighthouse Point hotel. Price was $10 round trip per person, but I understand that taxi fare just went up a bit. There are a couple of day passes at Lighthouse Point hotel to choose from. We chose the $5.00 one which just gave us beach access and look around. There is also all inclusive and beach chairs etc. We walked through most of the Lucayan Beach resort areas and loved it as it had been years since we had stayed there. Most of the hotels are closed, but we still liked it. In Key West we took the air conditioned free city bus first as it was very hot at 1pm and got a feel for the the city and then took the Conch Train at $28.50 each and enjoyed that. In Nassau we took an excursion to the Zoo and saw the pink flamingos and also a tour of the city. It was well worth it for us. The food on board the ship was average in my opinion. Not terrific but certainly not bad either. Service was great. Overall I was very happy with just about everything especially the rooms 6208 and 6207. So nice to be able to sleep all night with no outside noise!!! Read Less

I've been sailing with Norwegian for many years. My first time on board the Sun. The cabin was excellent, the overall decor of the ship was very well done. However, unlike the alcohol the beer selection was very limited with basically domestic beer. The food in the buffet was not what I've experienced on the Epic. Overall, the selection was limited, tasteless and totally unappetizing. We decided not to dine at the dinning room but bought a dinning package which turned out to be a great choice. Their food and service by the staff was outstanding. Well worth the extra cost during the cruise. On another note, the nightly entertainment was very good from Broadway type shows to Comedy. The staff as usual very accommodating and professional. Our embarkation was a breeze on board within 30 minutes. I will continue to cruise with Norwegian but would rather sail the bigger ships in the future. Read Less

Was looking for a short cruise to see how Norwegian is. This was our 20th cruise. We have sailed on Royal Caribbean, Holland, and Carnival. We do not want to go on Carnival anymore so thought we would give Norwegian a try. We had read reviews, both positive and negative for Norwegian. Some people will complain about any and everything. We know all cannot be 100%. We were impressed with the cleanliness of the ship. All the crew were so friendly, more genuine that some others. I did get the names of those that served us and let Norwegian know. (Always a good idea for the individuals.) The buffet is smaller than a lot of ships but there was more than enough to select. A couple of things I did not care for, but that could just be me. We did eat in the beautiful dining room, Seven Seas, at night. Service and food was excellent. Assistant cruise director came around asking different questions about the cruise, etc. and his assistant taking notes Since it was a short cruise, they did allow shorts at night. The Four Seasons does all the time. The unlimited drink package did not seem abused too much. Saw/heard a few loud ones but not many. They do not serve you drinks at the table. You do have to get in line and you can get 2 at a time but it goes so quick. No card needed. We did give tips. Most did not. Disappointed with casino. Minimum on table games higher than other cruises, so we did not play as much. Nobody seemed to be hitting big anywhere. Take what you plan to lose, then quit. We did not go to shows or excursions. We just wanted to relax and enjoy the smooth cruise. We did self disembarking with suitcases. Very quick even though many were also doing that. Overall, well pleased with Norwegian and will definitely be sailing with them again. Read Less

First time cruiser. Last minute booking. Great price on the cruise, chose the specialty dining pkg. Had inside stateroom. Size was comparable to a smaller hotel room. Perfect size for 2 people. Anymore than that, and it starts to feel claustrophobic. Staff was nice. Nice mixture of people. Not too many old folks, not too many "spring break " types. Food was good in the main restaurants and steakhouse was better than your typical outback or Longhorns. Buffet food was ok. Sports bar food was the most disappointing food on the ship. Wings were meh and spinach dip was more like watery queso. Omg. The "tap water" was not good! Buy the water package, you will thank me later. Spa was way overpriced. DJ Toeknee was pretty good. He had bliss lounge jammin. Great stirrup cay was nice. Water was blue. Not overcrowded on the beach, rented a clam shell to cover our beach chairs and some floaties to chill in the water. Did our own excursions for Nassau. Boarding and disembarking were easy. Casino sucked. Money pit! Some areas of the ship were very hot. And uncomfortable. Like the observation lounge and even the main restaurants. Could use more AC there. Oh. The mixed drinks were hit and miss. You could order the "floridita" from one bartender, and then go to the other side of the ship and order same thing and it taste terrible! Overall I was impressed. for a first time cruise, this is a great one, especially if you are looking for a smaller ship, with a good mix of people. Read Less

This was my first cruise on NCL. I usually cruise Royal Caribbean or Celebrity. I was a little apprehensive when I booked this cruise since I've been on NCL. This was a 4 day cruise to Key West and Havana Cuba and left out of Port Canaveral which is the closest port to us. My hubby wanted to go to Cuba so I booked it. The ship is smaller than the ones we are used to going on and everything seemed a narrow and tight. Some little things that were big pluses to me was the water pressure in the shower it's amazing! and the ac in room worked very well. This ship's beverage package is was great too! Premium brands like Grey Goose and JW Black were included. And I loved not having to use my room key every time we got a drink. The downside is that bottled water is not included, however we bought a 6 pack of premium 1 liter bottles for 14 bucks which was well worth it as it lasted the entire cruise and then some. For dinner we enjoyed all the wine we wanted, the food was pretty good at both dining rooms and the buffet. No lobster night though, which I was hoping for. We really enjoyed the buffet at the Garden Café, the food was good and the service was great. The Maitre'D Carina was very friendly and pleasant. Always stopped to talk to us and made sure we had everything we needed. The only negative experience was the process to get tickets to disembark in Key West. Hopefully they will figure this out soon since many people were very upset about it. I would definitely return to ship when looking for a short cruise again. Read Less

This was our second time on the NCL Sun for Memorial Day weekend. A quick three day cruise to the Bahamas seems to get our Summer started as we are both unable to get away from the Northeast winter. The ship is mid size and limited in some ways but makes good use of the space she has. The pool deck area is crowded, but always loungers on second deck available. The restaurants and bars are well staffed and crew are very efficient in their duties. I found the bartenders very accommodating for an open bar ship. We dined in the main dining room for dinner and found choices we liked. The desserts still need attention.....not very good. We were able to get french press coffee delivered to the room in the morning before breakfast and there is a Starbucks in the Atrium. We stayed in a suite on the eight deck forward. The room was very nicely appointed, very comfortable bed. The Bathroom was oversized with a very large whirlpool tub. The balcony, which we used, was large with two loungers and two chairs. The suites come with a private dining venue for breakfast and lunch. Our Concierge, Gian, was very helpful as was our Butler. I can not say enough about the casino staff....so much fun. Yes, we did contribute but this is considered entertainment for us and not an opportunity! The casino manager, Quasi Mc Lean was again over the top in personality and his management skills. I have never seen another casino manager so focused on attention to detail. Anna, the casino host, is very special person. We know Anna from her time on the Escape. She is just a lovely, warm, kindhearted person. The pit staff was very attentive. Star, a pit supervisor, was very personable and fun. The whole staff in the casino were fun to be around and understood how to treat people that were either winning or losing. This comes from the top....Quasi. Now the not so good. We were looking forward to Great Stirrup Cay from the day we booked. Booking a suite with all the construction being done, we were hoping for a great beach day. Well, after two years of work, the Lagoon area is not opened.....I heard the lagoon doesn't work and they are considering building a pool in this area. Yet, you look right next door to Coco Cay....they dock their ship, no tendering....largest water slide on the planet.....colorful....you could almost hear the fun their guest were having. Norwegian you dropped the ball.... I was told by pre cruise concierge that if I got locked out of a villa, I could book a massage on the Island and have use of the private area....Sorry, Policy change along with itinerary change. Our Plan was changed, again like last year after final payment. Due to change we had two ships at Great Stirrup Cay and none on the original day....nice work. Over all we had a good cruise....it served our purpose. The crew aboard this ship made the itinerary worth the travel from the Northeast. Read Less

We went on an extended family cruise which included four "twenty-somethings" and there was something for everyone. Embarking was smooth as we choose 12 noon boarding. We parked in the multi-story garage and were on the first floor. Our mid-ship balcony room was larger than other balcony rooms in back of ship. The balcony door needs another coat of paint however I found it easy to open and close the door. I eat a vegan menu and found everyone most accommodating. I was able to get almond or soy milk for my coffee and cereal. I was surprised how many side dishes were made with beef or chicken broth so I was very limited on what I could choose. Believe me, I was never at a loss for great things to eat. Only complaint was the one hour trolley tour of Key West. The trolly does not pick up at same location as your drop off. The driver kept pointing out were we could go and then just "stand at a bus stop" and flag down a return ride. NO, don't do it. We were hot and tired and no one was stopping for us. The shopkeepers and locals could not tell us how to get back to the Navy yard to re-board the ship. We tried to flag down trolleys and buses in front of the gate but no one would stop. Thank goodness I called my sister who told me to walk back into town and catch her non-NCL bus. Read Less

Overall, my family had the greatest time, on and off the ship! It was perfect for the eight adults - schools were in session so there were almost no children on board. The evening activities were lots of fun. Karaoke was great and it was crowded each evening. Fun way to have late night entertainment. I lost my cool when we were on the one-hour trolley tour of Key West. The driver was somewhat distracted and never made it clear where to meet for the return trip to the Ship. He pointed out a bus stop near the Navy Station and said you could pick up a return trolley at a bus stop. We tried to flag down buses and trolleys for the return to the ship but no one would pick us up. Finally I met up with other family members who told us to walk back into town and take a different bus with them. I know we were not the only ones confused. We sat down on a brick stoop outside the Aquarium to make a phone call and two different groups of people approached us to ask if this is where we get the return ride. We told them we weren't sure but were going to follow the drivers instructions. BAD IDEA. On the three hour Old Havana tour had an amazing guide named "Andrew." I was a little taken back by the amount of people begging for cash. In one courtyard, a young man sold us some coconut ice cream in a half coconut shell. It was icy and delicious. Other than that, most of us brought our own water bottles. At the spa, the women giving the couples massage were NOT gentle. I could only imagine what a deep tissue massage would have been like. I took two yoga classes for $15.00 extra. The first class was only 35 minutes. The next day it was 40 minutes. Overall, I would take this same cruise again. Read Less

A friend & I decided seeing Cuba was a priority on our bucket list. Cuba was the main reason we took this cruise, Key West (which we loved) was just a bonus. UNFORTUNATELY we only saw Cuba for 6 hours, all on a bus with three half hour stops. Hardly time to see anything. The ad on the NCL website said 2 DAYS-our plan-we would do the tour on Day 1 and go back on Day 2, having decided what to visit further based on the previous day’s tour. So that was the biggest disappointment. But to the cruise itself-Planning was simple and the price was reasonable. We had a balcony cabin (aft, deck 10) which I LOVED and will definitely choose again if I cruise in the future. The staff making up our room daily were wonderful. (I asked for ice only once and had a full bucket each day-thank you -gotta stay hydrated) BEAUTIFUL room, very spacious. The food was fantastic in the complimentary restaurants, much to my surprise. The buffet was pretty good, basic fare, good breakfast variety. We paid extra for the teppanyaki dinner and it was entertaining & delicious. I’m not much of a drinker but the bars were always full ;) so must have been good. The activities on board were fine but not what I came for-there were two Trivia games which we played (first game, add some ‘fun’ questions next time, we’re not scientists) The comedian was funny and the International dance show had some real talent. I was prepared to be seasick (I brought 3 Scopolamine patches, Bonine pills & ginger candy) but wasn’t for one second. Very calm seas and/or just a great Captain. Boarding and disembarking were both seamless, just follow instructions on where to go-it’s clear NCL has it all figured out so be a good passenger, they’ll take good care of you. All in all, great cruising experience-just wish I’d seen more of Cuba. Read Less

Very quick cruise to investigate cabin size and placement for a future Alaskan cruise. We were impressed by the size and cleanliness of our cabin. It has been refurbished within the last year so all the items and fabrics were very nice.We did have a restaurant reservation mixup but no harm done. Cagney’s steakhouse was a very good choice the food and service was on par with the best land based steakhouses.. All the bars were very fun and we had a blast at each one. We only discovered the observation lounge on the last day but it was our favorite place. Boarding was easy and. And allowed us to check out the public areas. Disembarking could not have been any easier we had plenty of time for a breakfast and then quickly leave. We enjoyed our time at stirrup key and it was a perfect beach experience. Overall a very good cruise. Read Less

We chose the Norwegian Sun with the encouragement of a friend who wanted to see Havana. The four of us had a good cruise on this recently refurbished ship. The public areas were updated with cheerful colors and yet remained comfortable and welcoming. The cabins were clean and comfortable, and the cabin stewards were very attentive and efficient. We had one inside cabin and one balcony room. The inside was comfortable and definitely designed for only 2 guests. The shower and water pressure were great even if the bathroom felt small. Decent cabinet/closet space and even had a small refrigerator. The balcony cabin was wonderful - on the front of the ship, overlooking the bow. Plenty of room and great cabinet/closet space. Designed with a connecting door for the suite next door, I think the standard furnishings were a bit upgraded to match the suite. The food was good. There was always something I liked on the menu. Service in the dining room was professional and efficient. We ate most of our meals in the dining room mostly because we like the service. It's a vacation - why not have someone wait on you? And having basic drinks, beer and wine included in the cabin price was wonderful. I doubt we drank more than usual but it was nice to have no bar bill at the end of the cruise! Only one stop - Havana, Cuba. We had almost 22 hours there, more than enough time for a single stop. The city shows some growth areas, lots of construction, and many areas looking hard pressed for development. The people were friendly, mostly, and not as pushy as some Caribbean ports. Knowing Spanish though would have made getting around easier. While some people speak English, many have only minimal phrase knowledge and getting directions or asking for help was not always easy. This was out first experience with NCL and good enough to add NCL to future cruise options. Read Less

After trying several other cruise lines, we decided to take our 1st Norwegian one. First off, 3 day cruises are typically older ships. The Sun was built in 2001, but was just renovated in May of 2018. It looked throughly overhauled and beautiful. There were some blemishes, such as some scratches in our bedroom casegoods and some on railings on the ship, but overall, they were minimal. This felt like a ship we could spend a week on. The ship is kept very nice and you can tell the exterior has a fresh coat of paint. The food on the ship was delicious and we dined each night in the dining rooms that had an upcharge just to see how good they were. They were great. Cagney's was a wonderful steakhouse but we didn't have the best dining experience due to someone cleaning up for the night. Le Bistro was excellent and Finn, our server, made up for every shortcoming from the night before. La Cantina was another great dining option. We had an awesome server from Indonesia and she was attentive and helpful. She did an outstanding job. We'd eat in all those same restaurants again. Cagney's had excellent food and the server was fine, but as we sat down at 9pm, the Maitre'd was in closing mode and diligently prepping the tables for breakfast the next morning. All of us found him distracting and not service oriented. He wasn't relaxed, friendly, or chill. He seemed unaware that there were several tables still dining and ordering. He was in all out closing mode to get everything done. We encountered him the next day, with the same intensity and scowl, trying to close the late lunch line. There's a nice way and a rude way to do so. Poor fellow, it's our hope he was just having a bad 2 days. The ports, Key West and Grand Bahama, are ok. We walked around Key West for a few hours, but in Grand Bahama, we found a really cool National park with a little trail and some historic info. The park connected to an uncrowded, remote beach and we chilled there a few hours till we had to drive back to the ship. Don't forget to check Drake Allen if he's still playing on the boat. He's a young, acoustic guitar player that entertained a large crowd of people every night with some John Mayer, Ed Sheeran, Zac Brown, etc. The magician for the adult crowd was hilarious. Finally, we had a mini-suite cabin and it was freshly renovated. It was a nice size for a ship and was right off the back so we had 180 degree views. Since we didn't arrive into ports till mid morning or later, we didn't worry about the engine sound waking us up. The room was clean, our room attendant was friendly, and we liked the location. We'd stay in the room again. If you want a quick weekend getway that you can relax on and just enjoy the sea, this is a great little cruise! Read Less

Service was top notch. Price was reasonable, timing worked with our schedule, beverage package was fantastic. Stateroom was a good size with lots of storage, and the bed was really comfy. Bathroom was compact; shower was small, but it worked very well. Outside areas were roomy with lots of chairs; no scrounging around to find somewhere to sit! Overall atmosphere was great; lots of fun entertainment, but not total party atmosphere. Hallways were relatively quiet at night, something we’ve had negative experiences with in the past on a different line. Food was very good, but fell somewhat short of our expectations. Breakfast buffets were outstanding, with lots of variety, but the dining rooms not so much. The food was good, just not, well, special. Freestyle dining, however, is a really nice option. Ports of call were great; we did Key West and Freeport, and had plenty of time at both places. Boarding process was incredible; we arrived earlier than our allotted time and expected to have to wait quite a bit. We were pleasantly surprised to not only breeze through the initial boarding process, but to be welcomed aboard and immediately have access to our rooms! That blew us away. Disembarking was just as smooth. We opted to keep our bags with us, which we left in the stateroom while we had breakfast. After a short wait in line once we finished eating, we were off the boat and through customs. Very, very smooth process! Overall we were pleased and will book again with Norwegian. Read Less
