We chose the cruise because of our prior excellent experience on Regent, including the Navigator and because of the interesting, 20 day itinerary. Exploring 10 ports in Norway was eye-opening, getting to know the culture some, the immaculateness everywhere, the Norwegian friendliness and their commitment to the environment. Murmansk, Russia was a forgettable industrial, gray, crumbling city. Two other Russian ports had to be omitted because of approaching storms and Regent did an excellent job explaining why this decision was made and happily substituted 3 additional Norwegian ports. The U.K ports were well chosen and interesting. Embarkation was perfectly and efficiently handled. Regent's pre-night hotel in London, the Langham, was a first rate luxury hotel One negative was the severe rumbling at times in the ship's theater during shows. It interrupted the speakers and performers and set the glasses rattling. Apparently this has been an issue in the past, but the design of this 20 year old ship prevents a fix. Another negative was the difference in window size (30% less) of deluxe suites which are priced the same with the ones with the larger windows located on one deck above (!). No one at Regent could seem to answer why. The cabins and public spaces, recently refurbished, were very nice and comfortable. The dining experience got a bit old...but perhaps that's a function of the length of the cruise (20 days). The service was superb and having sailed Regent twice before, there seemed to be an increasing number of crew addressing guests by name---a nice touch. All in all, a very nice experience. Read Less

We sailed From Tahiti to Sydney, Australia and this is a top notch cruise. We have cruised many times in the past and this was an excellent cruise. It was a small ship and that we liked. We did a sail on a ship that had 5,000 passengers and we said never again. Perfect size at only 500 people. Got a chance to not only meet other fine people but got familiar with the ship. We loved the dining options as we ate most meals in the Compase Rose. Alvin was our waiter and we requested him every time. The food was to die for as it was always excellent. No Complaints on this cruise. I do like the Idea of all costs are included up front so never have a huge bill after the cruise. Which brings me to the shore Excursions. They were all good. Quality for sure. I liked the Amadee Island at New Caledonia the best. It was an all day at the beach where we relaxed and snorkeled & did a kayak around the island. We did have to pay extra for this tour. All other tours are included in the price of the booking. I Like the idea you can easily change tours and they printed out a voucher right on the spot. So you were sure of what you got. They were the best organized of any cruise ship we have sailed. One time on another Cruise line, we got on a wrong bus and did a different tour than we wanted. This could never happen on a Regent Cruise. The Embarkation and Debarkation were excellent. We have sailed many times and this was without a doubt the best. The service was over the top and we booked another Regent Cruise it was that good. Everything from the Sydney & Beyond (Three extra nights), that we enjoyed very much as it went off without any hiccups, to the service was excellent. We have sailed many Cruise lines but this one is our Favorite line as we did and Alaska cruise on Regent two years ago. Regent does it right. We have sailed Princess, Costa, Norwegian, Celebrity, Holland America, and Carnival but Regent is best followed by Celebrity our Second best. We did a 20 day cruise this time and it was just right for us. I also liked the idea where the entertainers would meet and mingle with you. Twice we had entertainers sit down and chat with us. This is not allowed on other cruise lines. The Safety meeting (Mandatory) was the best ever. We did one on another cruise where a man fainted on deck doing the evac drill. But Regent did it in the theatre where you could relax and sit down while relaxed in air conditioning. We did a couple of the enrichments like the Lectures and the English guy who did the Lectures was very entertaining. We went to several of his lectures and also watched the ones we missed on the in room TV. I like the fact they did a nice Super Bowl spread in the theatre where you could eat, drink and watch the game. A special touch no other cruise line would think of doing. Everything was over the top and looking forward to our next Regent cruise. Read Less

In spite of this, the cruise and ports in the caribbean are OK. Ship nice,very clean and welcoming.. We are not entertainment or late night types so the quality of show is not applicable to us.o us. The only short coming is the PRIME 7 restaurant. It brings down the quality of the ship.. The food is bad and we can assure you that most passengers who tried it did not go again.The food elsewhere on the ship is far better. All areas of the ship were were clean and well kept. Drinks were readily available Pool deck nice, not noisy and service excellent. At all times service was superior. Always with a smile, Quick and professional. Unfortunately we contacted bronchitis, so we missed some of the excursions, but the ones we did go on were fine. Read Less

This was my first Regent cruise. It was chosen for its itinerary and except for one stop, it was wonderful. PROS: Smaller ship means smaller number of passengers, easier to maneuver on board. Crew was exceptional. Everyone, from tender attendants to officers were pleasant and engaged with the guests. They truly made you feel welcomed and special. The 24 day trip allowed you to form friendships with fellow guests and staff. The all inclusive aspect of Regent is a joy. No worries- all is included! Entertainment was top notch. The Orchestra had such talented musicians, the singer/dancers were broadway-worthy and most of the guest entertainers were entertaining. CONS: Navigator has a lot of vibration. I did get used to it but took a few days. One of the shore stops was awful. Boca De Valeria was purely a staged "village" fill of children begging for attention but 8n reality they want you money. I do understand that tourism is important for these people but I also feel that it was a total waste of a day. Another day in Manous or Santarem would have been much better. There were so many sites to see in those cities and only 1 day each was not enough. Overall, I loved this cruise and the Navigator. Looking forward to another Regent vacation!! Read Less

The destinations and season were both of interest to my wife and myself. Since it's a small ship (490 passengers) entertainment is constrained. The performers did a good job in a small space. The ports were good and some are only accessible by small ships. The food was excellent, fresh, tasty and served efficiently. Beverages were included as usual with Regent with a good selection and they were well prepared. The pre-cruise hotel was top of the line and in a good location. We were able to walk to the theater for Hamilton. Transfers between airports and hotel were comfortable and well managed. We missed one scheduled port due to rough seas. Even though it's a small ship it is very seaworthy. The staff were both friendly and efficient. It was quick and easy to get to shore when tied up a the dock and when tenders were used. Cruised on Navigator 3 times. Last cruise was a 20 day Northern Europe through Norway and northern Russia this summer. Interesting itinerary. Many Norway ports, into theArtic Circle, Murmansk and Archangelsk in Russia. Then Shetland Islands, Edinburgh Scotland, Newcastle UK and finally Amsterdam All Regent ships are a home away from home with white glove treatment. Caring and attentive staff. Food and dining are the best and accommodations are excellent. We loved the included excursions. No problems. The entertainment was always enjoyable. After the show, we always found a great movie before going to sleep. We always order breakfast to the suite before leaving on a tour. Simply put your choices on your card. You can usually add something not standard, as well. Always set up to meet our time schedule. We usually have a butler and although it is an extravagance, we loved being spoiled Simply the best. However, We do like the Explorer better. Read Less

We chose this cruise to celebrate our Silver Wedding and we chose Regent as we have sailed with them previously. We like the all inclusive nature of this company. Yes, you look at the headline price and wince but you never have to pay for anything thereafter – all drinks, gratuities, excursions etc are included. Only spa treatments and shop purchases are not covered. We spent $27.00 over the course of the 20 days! Another benefit of Regent is that few announcements are made over the PA system in your suite. Thus, you are not constantly bombarded with announcements etc. On sea days, the captain updated us about our position, the weather conditions etc but that was it. We opted out of the airfare promotion by organising our own flights to Copenhagen from Edinburgh and from Amsterdam to Edinburgh. Taking advantage of a car park deal at Edinburgh Airport and booking a taxi from City Taxis Amsterdam, payment to the driver, we saved about £200.00 per person of the published Regent fare. Sometimes it does pay to do your own thing. We have friends who stay north of Copenhagen so we did not have the expense of finding a hotel prior to the cruise. We enjoyed a few days in North Zealand before embarking the Regent Seven Seas Navigator. Embarkation was from noon and since the ship only holds 490 guests, there were no queues so the process was completed swiftly. The welcome glass of champagne was most appreciated and set the tone for the rest of the cruise. The ship has recently been refurbished and we did like the new colour palette in the public areas and in the spacious suites. Dining on the Navigator is either at Compass Rose, the main restaurant, La Veranda for breakfast and lunch and which becomes Sette Mare, an Italian themed restaurant at night, or Prime Seven, the New York steak house. Although reservations are required for the latter, there is no additional cover charge. I have coeliac disease and all the staff took great care to ensure the food I was eating was safe for me to consume. The only downside was that I had to order dinner for that evening before I had had breakfast! The food in all three was excellent as was the lunchtime pool service with themed buffets depending on the port of call that day, as well as the usual fare. We were fortunate to have a very good guest speaker on board, Michael Scott, who added to our ports of call with some history, geography and wildlife information. Additional information was broadcast on our suite TV about the various ports of call and the tours which were on offer. Entertainment was provided by the Regent Seven Seas band and the onboard singers and dancers whose shows were really good. Okay, they were not the same as the westend shows on the bigger ships but we refer the intimacy of smaller ships. Our cruise director, Ray, was his usual brilliant self and did a great job keeping us all entertained. There is a well equipped gym on deck 12 forward, with glorious views of the ocean, should you be so inclined. We did not make use of the spa facilities but onboard treatments are expensive, plus an 18% service charge – not for us. The staff worked very hard to ensure the cleanliness of the public areas, which were always immaculate. We liked the new library and coffee connections area, and the computer area opposite had 6 computers but as every guest has free wifi, most used their tablets, phones etc. Alex was always a very patient IT consultant and usually managed to resolve any IT issues. The Stars Theatre is over two decks with good sight lines from nearly every seat – no pillars in the wrong places! Reception was manned 24 hours per day and the friendly, helpful staff made every effort to answer all guest questions. There are also guest laundry facilities on decks 5, 8, 9 and 11 and these were well equipped and maintained. Service was fantastic and many staff knew our names, and addressed us as such, within 24 hours of boarding. Our suite stewardess, Wai Wai, was always helpful and kept our in-suite beverage cabinet well stocked with our choice of soft drinks and provided plenty of bottled water. She also provided us with our choice of wine on request. Shore excursions were included in each port of call and were generally of a high standard. We opted to take the Regent Choice excursion to Hardangerfjord – the queen of the fjords – from Bergen. This was a full day excursion with lunch included and was a fantastic experience. Our other ports of call included Lysekil in Sweden, Stavanger, Alesund, Trondheim, Hammerfest, Honningsvag – for the Nordkapp (the most northerly point of mainland Europe) – Lerwick, Rosyth, Tynemouth and Amsterdam (overnight). In addition, we had stops at Murmansk and Arkhangelsk in Russia. Our stop at the Solovetsky Islands was cancelled due to poor weather conditions which prevented the launch of the tenders. Some of our fellow guests wondered why we visited Murmansk – a not very pretty industrial port. However, this was the destination for the Arctic Convoys during World War Two and there is a great deal of appreciation for the Allied effort to keep the USSR supplied. Murmansk was under constant bombardment for 40 months and was granted the title of ‘Hero City of the Soviet Union’. The Alyosha Monument is a towering 5,000-ton statue of a lone soldier that commemorates the Soviet Arctic forces that resisted the invading Nazi army in 1941and defended the Kola peninsula. Arkhangelsk is a pretty city and was also a destination for the Arctic Convoys during the summer months when it was ice-free. We spent the morning at the Naval Dockyard- Russia’s first merchant shipyard - before heading out, after lunch, to Malye Korely, an open-air museum of wooden buildings from throughout the region. The buildings represent different architectural traditions and time periods, with the oldest building dating from the 16th century. As I said at the beginning, the headline price looks very expensive but when you consider all that is included, we think that it is good value for money overall. Read Less

It was LA to LA, so very little flying from Las Vegas. The ship is small, but big enough, so as not to feel cramped. Our suite is always the correct size. The food is so much better than other cruise lines. We never seem to be rushed like other cruises on bigger ships with 2 dinning seating. This time the enrichment lectures were not as good as we have had before, they were only average. The service has always been excellent and this time was no different everyone is so helpful. Always smiling and asking if they can get you anything, so pleasant. We were at sea a good share of the time. The ports in Mexico are for the most part very nice. Shore excursions were varied and there was something for everyone. Sometimes it was nice to just stay on board and read a book, they had a nice selection in the library. We are already booked on the Navigator in 2019 for a northern Atlantic cruise. Read Less

Despite missing Bermuda and adding a day in New York and an extra sea day, this cruise was very nice. The service was excellent. The tours were well organized. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. The food is good and well presented. We had not been on the Navigator since it was refurbished and thought the decor overall was very pleasant. Tea time was poorly attended which we found surprising. Setti Mari was also not very busy the one time we dined there. The food was very good, but we do not like the buffet part of it. We ate in Prime 7 once, and found the service a bit lacking. The Compass Rose is our favorite restaurant. The maitre’d’s and wait staff are just outstanding. We found there was always enough on the menu to choose from when the specials did not appeal to us. There is a reason this was our sixth cruise with Regent: the level of personal service is outstanding. Read Less

As wary cruisers we wondered if we were risking too much committing to a 29 day cruise? Not a problem at all! We selected a cabin midship with no balcony and found we had plenty of options to sit quietly on deck if we chose to. Being low and in the middle, our cabin was very stable and we had a smooth journey for 29 nights. Reports of wild weather nights surprised us. The cabin was spacious with a large wardrobe. Did not use the bath but great shower. Somewhere i read of complaints about the shower stall being "too dark and small to shave legs"!! Maybe if you are half blind, overweight and wearing sunglasses. Ridiculous criticism... The complimentary guest laundry was very useful - don't take too much as it is convenient to use. We did not wear very formal clothing at all. Some brought out the diamonds and full length crystal dresses but absolutely not necessary. Dress as if going out for fine dining. Fellow travellers were mostly 55+, many European and Australasian and many we never even saw! Only a very few children (6?). The second part of the cruise had a different mix of guests with more high end Americans who largely kept to themselves. The quality of the food and drink was exceptional. The selection was outstanding. One could dine on fillet steak and lobster each night if so desired... included wine selection very good with no need to buy list wines (and we are hoteliers/winemakers so very fussy). The staff were all very professional and friendly. Reading some reviews to date I am amazed these people were on the same cruise? Perhaps small things can escalate for some people but we found any small concern was quickly and quietly remedied with no fuss. Complaining about poles on a dance floor that is used for formal dancing by about 8 guests? We loved the dance floor later at night especially the Beatles night! Just be aware that you will hear the moaners and groaners. Stay away from them as a large group of us could not have been treated better nor had a better cruise experience. Shore excursions a mixed bag. As we pre booked so long ago some we chose not to go on by the time they were due. Long days in hot humid places were challenging. Some people had great experiences, some not so good. If you don't like what is on offer then book a private tour. Easy! Concierge service excellent - some booked shows in NY . Entertainment varied if that's your thing. Lots of activities of your thing. We loved sea days to relax and enjoy the sea air, read and chat. Others need stimulation and entertainment with plenty of that on offer. Good spa facilities. Intention to use gym not eventuated! All the fellow travellers we interacted with thoroughly enjoyed their cruise. If you travel with an open mind, show respect to the staff who only want to please and be thankful for the opportunity to experience this level of luxury, you will love Navigator! Great ship, just the right size for us and being all inclusive could not have been better value. Read Less

CARIBBEAN AND AMAZON ADVENTURE Seven Seas Navigator May 23-June 17, 2017 This cruise was Miami round-trip down the Amazon River to Manaus and back. It lasted 26 days and the ship was sold out months in advance. There were ten sea days necessitated by the long distances to be covered. The cruise is often offered twice a year and we opted for the May (versus November) trip because it arrives in the Amazon at the very end of the rainy season. The passengers were primarily retired seniors. There were fewer with wheelchairs and walkers due to necessity for walking in most ports in order to see the most interesting sights. At this time, the river is at a high water mark, extremely muddy and as much as 10 miles wide. The captain told us that the huge amounts of water coming down river slowed the ship down somewhat. The itinerary originally included a stop called Alter du Chao and we did not stop there. The ship’s announcements led us to believe it was due to the heavy current and the need for more time to reach Manaus however Michael Scott, the Smithsonian lecturer, showed photos of Alter du Chao which is essentially a set of white sand bars with restaurants and beach chairs like a resort and told us it was generally underwater and shut down at this time of year so anchoring off of it would have been useless. At all of the Amazon ports, we did see that the greenery we thought were water plants were actually the tops of the trees on the river islands just barely sticking up above the flood waters. On one shore excursion, it was pointed out that we were able to dock much closer to the attraction than would be possible during the dry season when visiting the rubber plantation would have involved a 2-3 kilometer walk through the jungle. The cruise was smooth for the most part. There were occasional brief rain showers which is to be expected in this area of the world. The crew diligently dried the deck and recovered the lounge chairs after these showers. Cruise preparations: You will need a Brazilian visa for this which can be obtained by filling out a form on the embassy website, obtaining a US postal money order for $160 per person and taking your passport to the embassy or using a visa service is no embassy is near. You will also need either a yellow fever inoculation or a waiver letter. Since we were both 70 or above, the local travel medicine clinic stamped the inoculation folder with a waiver stamp for us. On the advice of the travel clinic, we also purchased permethrin spray at REI and sprayed two outfits for each of us and got bug repellent as well. We never saw a mosquito during the entire trip but if everyone else did what we did, we probably traveled in a cloud of bug repellent. We also got malaria tablets with a prescription from the travel clinic and took those with absolutely no side effects. Many people covered their arms, legs, ankles, and more when they went out while we were on the Amazon which was probably a good precaution but again, bugs just seemed to be non-existent. Ship: The Navigator is the smallest ship in the fleet with 480 passengers and a crew of 360. It is cozy but generally feels uncrowded and many of the passengers said it was their favorite ship. Many of the comparable spaces on other ships in the fleet have been combined on the Navigator. For example, Coffee Connection and the Internet room share a small lounge area. The piano bar is another small area across from that and the small library adjoins them as well. One nice difference from many cruise ships is that the showroom is in the back of the ship. The ship is well maintained. All of the crew demonstrated incredible friendliness and willingness to help. This seems to be a hallmark of Regent. Cabins: The cabins are identical to other Regent ships in that most are 328 sq. ft. suites with a seating area, a balcony, a very spacious bathroom and a walk-in closet. The bed and linens were wonderful and we felt there was plenty of storage space. Our only complaint, and it was a common one, was that the thermostats in the cabins did make much difference in the temperature. We were told that heating/AC is done by blocks of cabins overall so that some passengers complained of hot cabins while others said they were freezing. Dining: The Navigator has a main dining room, the Compass Rose, identical to other Regent ships. It has open seating. There is one specialty restaurant, Prime Seven, which is a steakhouse. Prime Seven adjoins La Veranda, the breakfast/lunch buffet. The double doors between the two were often opened to provide extra seating for breakfast and lunch when the buffet was always crowded. As with other ships, La Veranda became Sette Mare, an Italian restaurant, at night. I liked the fact that there were several dishes alongside the salad bar at night that were not on the Sette Mare menu and provided more choices. Breakfast and lunch items were also available at the Pool Grill which had some incredible theme lunches on sea days. The food was wonderful no matter where you ate although by the end of 26 days, we were ready for a simple home-cooked meal again. We’d had our fill of steak and lobster. There is no pizza station on the ship although the hamburgers and hot dogs at the grill were very good. We did discover that if you wanted a dish not found on the menu, a special dessert or a complete Indian dinner for example, it was possible to make arrangements for this. Entertainment: The singers and dancers were all new on our cruise and somewhat tentative in their first production show but excellent after that when they got the butterflies out. Other entertainment included a female piano player (great talent but with a super ego that was a bit of a turn off), an impressive husband and wife classical guitar duo, a tango act and some local entertainers who came on for one night. We especially liked the group of five from Manaus who used native instruments to imitate nature sounds as part of their songs. There was only one show nightly so I would advise arriving early to get seats since the seating around the top and sides of the show room was awkward and uncomfortable bar height seating or obstructed low seating. A Smithsonian lecturer, Michael Scott, was on board the entire cruise and he gave very informative and interesting talks often on the coming ports, the wildlife and more. Since there were many sea days, this added up to a lot of talks and they were well attended. He was also often up on deck watching for wildlife to photograph and made himself available for questions. The ship offered, as many do, games on sea days which were played on deck or in a small carpeted corner on deck 9. These included shuffleboard and baggo, magnetic darts, plastic bowling pins, indoor croquet, etc. There were generally 20-25 people attending these games and hoping for some fun and merriment. Unfortunately, the staff assigned to put these games had no imagination or playfulness in putting them on and it was often 15 minutes or less before they were over. The singers and dancers were being trained to assist with the games during the last week of the cruise and hopefully they might bring some variety and innovation when using the game materials provided. Liars Club was held twice during the cruise in the top lounge, Galileo’s. Team Trivia was held nearly every afternoon at 4:30 in the Star lounge. Again, I would advise arriving very early to secure seats and form teams. Both were very well attended We arrived about 15 minutes before Liar’s Club was to start and were unable to get a seat even though extra chairs had been brought in. This cruise crosses the equator twice. Anyone who crosses becomes known as a Shellback and is supposed to be initiated by King Neptune. Some of the entertainment crew stood in for the passengers and there was a lot of laughter as they were slimed and pushed into the pool. Ports and excursions: Note: The majority of Regent shore excursions are free and well worth taking. However, few cruise ships visit the Amazon and tourist guides and sights may not be up to the level one would normally expect. Gustavia, St. Barts: Small French-speaking island. Restaurants and shopping are much higher priced than other parts of the Caribbean. We walked to the TI from the tender (the TI is located on the water about a block and a half from the dock and is not well marked). We got a map from the TI and walked around the small town to Shell Beach where we found a lot of the singers and dancers enjoying an hour of beach time. Most shops were closed during the middle of the day. Castries, St. Lucia: We took the 7 hour “Land and Sea to Soufriere” tour. We took a small van over the very winding roads of the island stopping at a small fishing village for a potty break and to stretch our feet, a viewpoint, a botanical garden and an “estate” where we had a buffet lunch of local foods and then were led on a short tour to see mock-ups of worker huts and processing of coffee beans, sugar cane and coconut like they would have been done in the past. The several vans of passengers all met at a dock to go on a catamaran (more like a ferry) for a stop along the coast for a short swim (it was twilight by this time) and then continue back to the ship. Note: This was such a long tour that the long sail back to the ship was in the dark. The boat was dimly lighted. We were served rum punch and other non-alcoholic drinks and the guides did their very best to keep us entertained by dancing to the songs playing over the loudspeaker. Everyone was quite tired by the time we were back to the ship. Half of the passengers on this tour did it in reverse – catamaran first, van back to the ship. St. George, Grenada: The ship docked on a Sunday in Grenada. We had been here before and just walked off the ship, through the car/foot traffic tunnel under the hill where the fort is, and around the small harbor. The only people we saw where several taxi drivers who stopped to ask if we would like a tour. There is very little to see around the harbor. Some passengers walked up through town to look at one of the two churches. Port of Spain, Trinidad: We took a city tour which included a botanical garden and a steel drum performance. Our guide spoke good English, was very knowledgeable and proud of her city but gave an honest description of the pluses and minuses of the area. The botanical garden was pleasant and easy walking. The steel drum concert was given by six older gentlemen at their steel drum club’s practice facility outdoors under a roof which was very handy when a sudden heavy rainstorm came through. Boca du Valeria, Brazil: After four sea days, we arrived at this small fishing village of perhaps 75 people. There were no shore excursions here because the ship tenders simply dropped passengers at the tiny dock where we were eagerly greeted. Children (who speak almost no English) mobbed the walk off the dock and quickly grabbed your hands to escort you to the right down the path through the jungle as far as you cared to walk until you turned around. There were many boys along the path with pet sloths, parrots, huge bugs and parakeets hoping you would take their photo and give them a dollar. There were adults next to small stalls selling wood carvings and jewelry made of feathers. Apparently the villagers from miles around come to greet the very few ships which stop here. Once we made it clear to our four kids that we wanted to see the village, they led us along the boards and pathway to the one-room school and adjoining one-room church. At that point, we gave them each a few dollars and had a photo taken with them and they immediately disappeared in search of more passengers. Suggestions: All of the kids eagerly accepted the chocolates left on your bed each night (they will melt once you are off the ship and be quite messy). Dollars are good. There was a small stuffed bear in our cabin and I gave it to the smallest child. I think all of the girls would have liked one. The school is very basic and welcomes any school supplies (pencils, etc. from the Dollar Store) as well as money. I had several emergency sewing kits which I gave to an old lady and to a woman who beckoned us to visit her house. This was one of the most interesting stops of the trip. If you go and wonder how they have very few possessions but have a satellite dish and tv, we were told the government provided these some years ago as a way of raising the literacy level and lowering the extremely high birth rate (it worked). Manaus, Brazil: We had a two day stop in this town of 2 million. Day one we took the Highlights of Manaus city tour to the restored Opera House (amazing), the city zoo (sad), and the indigent indian museum (small and skippable). The second day our excursion was Rubber Museum and Indian Community which included a boat trip to a mock-up of a rubber plantation from the late 1800s. The plantation was built for a movie production and now is a very educational tourist attraction. Our guide was excellent and we were able to fully understand the desperate plight of the men who became rubber-harvesting slaves and what they had to do. We also visited an indigenous indian village where we were given a performance of traditional songs and dances in a tribal meeting building. Despite the loin cloths on the men and topless grass-skirted women, the modern haircuts on the men and the somewhat embarrassed postures of the women made it clear they are very much a part of the modern world just a few miles down the river. In the evening, we took the caiman hunting excursion. Everyone is boarded onto two large riverboats which then take you across the river about 45 minutes to an area where smaller 10 person boats are waiting at a dock. The boats go off into the dark lighted only by the moon (a full moon in our case) to cruise through the tops of the trees of the flooded islands while a man in the front shines a flashlight into the foliage hoping to pick up the reflection of the caiman’s eyes. The jungle sounds around you are extraordinary. Most of the boats found no caiman because the full moon made it possible for them to see us and move away before we were close enough. One boat did catch two small caiman and brought them back to the riverboat for everyone to hold for photos. I would do this again just for the experience of floating through the dark and listening to the wildlife sounds. Santarem, Brazil: Although there were good shore excursions from Regent, we joined another couple and booked a private guide, Karim, with Big Tree Adventures. This knowledgeable, friendly and capable guide with a van and driver was worth every penny. We toured leisurely through the fish market, the fruit and vegetable market, stopped for photos of a church, had a beer at a very nice hotel with a great view of the waterfront, and then had a great fish lunch at Restaurant Piracema. Afterward, we boarded a small boat and went across the meeting of the waters (where the clear, dark water of the Rio Tapajos meets the muddy Amazon) into Maica Lake to see sloths, lizards, many birds, giant water lilies and local homes. It was one of the best days of the cruise. Parintins, Brazil: We began booking shore excursions too late to see the city during the day but were lucky to get on the Boi Bumba Folk Show excursion in the late afternoon. Passengers are taken by tender to the dock and walk across the street past the market to an air-conditioned performance venue. Go as early as possible to get the best seat. The town is famous for having the second largest Carnival-type festival in South America. Two clubs compete only for the honor of winning and annually design flamboyant costumes, floats, and dances which are presented during the last weekend of June in an outdoor stadium constructed for that purpose. We were treated to a one-hour performance indoors by one of the clubs. Singers and dancers moved in front of us for 60 full minutes. Their energy was incredible. Don’t miss this one. Devil’s Island, French Guiana: After exiting the Amazon, there is a one day stop with no shore excursions at this small, infamous island, site of the French prison depicted in the movie “Papillion”. The island is a tropical paradise of palms, birds, and monkeys. The buildings are in decay and visitors can walk wherever they like. There is one building now used as a hotel/hostel and serving some food. There are several ways to access the ruins in the center of the island, either by taking the slower but longer outer road or using the quicker path with steps. You can see the solitary confinement cells in a fairly well preserved building, others where only the lower rock walls remain, the childrens’ cemetery where the families of prison employees were buried, and more. There are very few signs. Bridgetown, Barbados: We took the “Beach Break” excursion. Guests are bussed to a long, white beach where there are pairs of lounges sharing a large umbrella to choose from. Bathrooms and changing facilities are upstairs in the beach bar which owns the lounges. The water is a beautiful shade of blue and was calm the day we were there. The water temperature was a little cool but easy to stay in. For $10, a boat would take you out to view large turtles and coral. St. John’s, Antigua: “Historical Island Drive and Beach Break” Along with our very funny local guide, we were bussed around the island hearing about the politics and culture of Antigua. We stopped at two high lookouts with ruins of English forts and then went to Nelson’s Dockyard where sailing ships were repaired and outfitted during the height of the English occupation. We were given a ticket for a rum punch or soft drink in one of the buildings which is now a bar and then taken to a beach. Despite what the Regent description said, there were bathrooms and changing facilities at the beach as well as shaded tables, a few benches and lots of sea grape trees which provided shade as well. San Juan, Puerto Rico: We did the Rainforest Nature Walk. This is a long excursion to El Yunque National Park, the only rainforest in the US National Park system. It’s about 1 ½ hours from the port. There was a stop at the visitor’s center with a movie, a waterfall photo, a pool built by the CCC, and a tower to climb for a view. The nature walk in our tour was very short down some steps, around a picnic shelter and back again and had no “nature” to see. I understand that other tours actually did have a walk on a path so which guide you get makes a difference. The ride back to the ship was during rush hour and San Juan has very clogged streets so it took even longer than the ride to the forest. Our guide had brought along a bags of chips, water and beer which were much appreciated since we had been gone a very long time and dinner had started by the time we returned. Read Less

The itinerary allowing us to travel to Bermuda from Florida on the ship was our deciding factor to celebrate our 44th anniversary. We cruised on the Navigator for our 30th anniversary and did not want to miss out on this last trip to Bermuda. The ship was beautiful, having been refurbished last year, and was better than our expectations. Embarkation and disembarkation were smooth and easy. The food delicious and always flavorful, attractive and top service. We especially enjoyed several of the cast productions however felt Clive Carrington's classics and piano bar entertainment was the best we have enjoyed (this was our 28th cruise). His amazing talent playing everything from classical to current venues as well as singing kept us entertained nightly. Guests and one of the bar servers, Elvis, even shared his mike adding so much to the evenings. Singer Shauna Hicks' Broadway show was also amazing. She was featured two nights and we wish she was on stage at least once more. Another great talent who hope to see in the future. We enjoyed the special interest lectures with Kim Orlando. Service was always perfect, helping with smiles and warm greetings. We definitely will cruise on Regent again and plan to book one of their other ships for variety and itinerary from Florida. I've just read a number of the reviews for this ship and can't quite believe that I was on the same ship as the other reviewers. We found the cruise, all 40 nights of it to be generally and overwhelmingly wonderful. The itinerary was brilliant. We travelled from Abu Dhabi to Miami, on the final two legs of the 2017 world cruise. There were some outstanding ports of call and barely any that I wouldn't happily go back to. Only two of the tours that we did weren't up to scratch - but that's the local tour guide more than anything. As most of the passengers had been on from the start, we certainly noticed that they were starting to get tired and generally didn't mix as well as other cruises we've been on. But that wasn't a problem, we are happy with our own company and there is always someone to talk to when you want. The cabin was very comfortable: spacious, clean, bright and exactly as you'd want. There is a full size bath and a good shower; a walk-in wardrobe with plenty of space; an exceptionally comfortable king size bed and all the amenities you'd want. The cabin stewards were lovely people. The food was exceptional, though I don't quite go for all the palaver about caviar on Sundays - such a push to get it too! We mostly ate in Compass Rose and really enjoyed it. As vegetarians, the offerings in the specialty Prime 7 weren't suited for us and after trying it, we cancelled future reservations. The desserts there though were amazing and, delightfully, you could pre-order them to be delivered to Compass Rose anyway. Afternoon teas were stunning and I could not fault the offerings in the bar. The entertainment was patchy. Some of the lecturers were excellent (Terry, yay) others were ok and a couple were meh. Likewise the entertainment, though most was excellent but the comedians, very ordinary. Maybe it's that they were playing to an older, richer American audience but I didn't find the political and the dated jokes all that funny. No, we are not all Trump supporters on this ship! And the destinations were all that you could ask for and more. We want to return to a number of them. If I had any complaint at all, it would be that some of the other passengers were pushy - some seriously hated to be in any but the front seats of the bus on excursions and some overrated what they could realistically do on an excursion - Regent clearly identify activity level but a couple of pax were determined to slowly trudge, grumbling all the while, behind the group on a 'strenuous' tour. That said, we recommend it and will happily return. Read Less

We have traveled extensively on Silversea and Regent. This was our 6th cruise on the Navigator after cruising on the Voyager for 7 cruises. I have waited a couple of months before writing this review... and wanted to read some of the other current reviews. I have observed that some passengers are just plain rude. They complain all day and nothing a crew member can do is good enough. They think that because they paid lots of money for the cruise, their feet should be kissed. Yes, I am sure not everything has gone well on all cruises..we to have had a flooded room, no air conditioning and missed ports for what seemed no reason at all-except for Regent to save money on docking and tours. There are many passengers from lots of different countries that have different customs. We noticed that some passengers after a wonderful 8 hour tour tip the tour guide and bus driver one dollar...if anything at all. These passengers in my opinion should stay at home..AND these passengers are ALWAYS the ones who will not stop asking the tour guide stupid questions and will not shut up..for 8 hours! Alan, the head supervisor for all the Navigator restaurants seemed to be everyplace at the same time.. checking to see if everything was good... Lorenzo, was in charge of La Veranda was excellent..The supervisor at Prime 7 was also wonderful, always ready to please. Yes, sometimes the food in all 3 of the restaurants was not perfect.. but this ship cooks about 3,000 meals a day for the passengers and the crew... this is not your home or a famous Beverly Hills restaurant... which I do frequent and at times their food is not all that great. Yes the rear of the ship vibrates.. it always has.. I have no idea why... Get a room midships.. we have NEVER felt the ship vibrate from our room 918. There is a problem, and now you know the solution.. We did have a problem with a member of the dance crew.. and reported it to guest relations. Within an hour I was contacted by the general manager, who came to me for a meeting... then the head of personnel asked me to meet him... and the problem much to my shock was resolved.. What more could I ask for? We started in Cape Town with a 3 day African Safari at the Bayethe Lodge. Words cannot express how wonderful this was.. The company that operates this animal preserve is first class.. the best lodging, the best food and the best employees. Jacque was our guide and if he does not become president of this company, it will be their loss. He was knowledgeable, caring and intelligent. We have already booked our next trip on the Navigator back to Africa and Bayethe for April of 2018! 95% of the passengers were as usual wonderful.. and over the years we have made great friends while cruising... they go with the flow and keep their complaints to a minimum... but some people just cannot be pleased.. Yes I have for the most part taken the Navigator's position in this review.. but then these crew members are away from home for 8 months at a time and they also deserve some consideration. Lastly, do not waste your time contactin Regent's main office.. THEY DO NOT CARE. They fill up their ships and make lots of money and if you do not return, someone from Crystal or Silversea who has had a bad experience there will come to Regent and take your place. We love the size of this ship. The cabins are a very nice size, the dining in Compass Rose is very good. the wait staff there is wonderful. We do not like the specialty restaurants because the portion sizes are too large. The tours can be a bit harsh but the ports visited did not have any luxury buses to offer. Most tours were doable. This is a port issue not the ship problem. The refurbishment of the ship is very nice. The cabins did loose some storage space but you are not making the cabin your home for life. TV was sporadic along the west coast of Africa. We liked the entertainment that was done by the ship staff and dance crew. We did not care for the entertainers that were brought on board for limited shows. The exception was a wonderful children's choir from a local port area. We have booked the Amazon on this ship for the summer. Read Less

Where to start? We just returned from our third Navigator cruise last night. I'll admit that I have a bit of a soft spot for this ship, as this was our first cruise ship we ever booked back in 2009. We were anxious to see her after her recent refurbishment and to see how we liked her (or if we still did, considering some of the bad press we'd seen lately). If you don't feel like reading the entire review, I'll save you the time - we still love this ship, and we still love cruising on Regent. The updates to the Navigator make her seem more contemporary and fresher. I felt that the ship was in superb condition and the new color schemes make her look more elegant and functional. There was a lot of grumbling about the missing drawers in the cabins (we were in a D on deck 8) but to tell the truth, I didn't see it as a problem at all. There were two of us in a cabin for 12 nights and we didn't even come close to using the drawers in the closet, and we didn't really miss the old drawers in the desk area. Maybe it would be an issue on a longer cruise, but I don't feel like anything was lost. The new colors are soothing, and the bed was supremely comfortable. The common areas rarely felt crowded (exception: embarkation was a bit crowded) and we never had an issue with lines for dining or any other venues. Navigator is the least foodie-friendly ship in the Regent fleet, with only one specialty restaurant (Prime 7) but again, on a shorter itinerary, this wasn't an issue. We felt that the selection and quality of the food was very good to excellent. Included wines were usually good and often very good. Spirit selection could be better (especially in the brown liquor area) but it was fun to experiment with cocktails outside of my normal "scotch in a glass". I am not a big fan of the shows on board, but I have to admit that the ones I attended on this cruise seemed better than before. My past cruises, I often spent part of the evenings after dinner sitting in the Connoisseur Club with a brandy and a cigar; that's no longer an option on Navigatgor. I did miss it somewhat, but not as much as I thought I would. Maybe that's why I attended more shows, who knows? With very few exceptions, we found the service on board to be superb. The lows: Compass Rose and Pool Deck sometimes took too long to identify and correct empty glasses. To a person, everyone we came across was friendly, helpful, and knowledgable. Our cabin steward was fantastic, friendly, efficient, and unobtrusive. She went out of her way to help my wife and I with any special requests we had, The bar staff and waiters quickly got to know us and know what we liked. The CD, Jamie Logan, and his wife Dana were seemingly everywhere at once, and you could always see them mingling with the guests and sharing a story or giving advice. They both helped make this a special cruise, too. Ports and shore excursions - the first half of this trip was mostly ports we'd visited before and we took different excursions to get a different feel. For the most part, they were good, although I feel like they're starting to cram too many people in each tour. We had one tour guide in Malta who was definitely substandard, but all of the others were fantastic. We upgraded probably three or four of our tours to the Regent Choice excursions, and these are always nice; slower pace, fewer guests, and always something to remember. The 'Lunch in a Private Villa' in Taromina is a must-do, we did this one a second time this trip since we had family with us we wanted to share this with. It's definitely worth the upcharge! The second half of this trip took us to ports we had not yet visited, and they were all amazing. Although this itinerary was changed from Istanbul to Haifa after we booked, we decided to stick with the cruise, and we're glad we did! Israel was fantastic, a definite must-see if you've never been. We spent three days there and barely scratched the surface of what you can do and see there. I'd definitely go back! As we often do, we booked our air and lodging through Regent Air. Yes, it's a bit more expensive but to us, it's worth it. Knowing that our transfers and lodging are all set up gives us peace of mind in case anything goes south. We had first class transfers, and our hotels were great (Melia Serria in Barcelona, Dan Carmel in Haifa). This particular cruise had more kids on board than we had expected, but they were mostly quiet and well-behaved. Not 100%, mind you, but not bad. We probably had more issues with cranky seniors than whiny toddlers. :-) So in a nutshell, my wife and I ranked this as probably our best cruise yet. The price was reasonable, the service was pretty damn good, the ship was in great shape, and the crew was fantastic. Negatives: My wife didn't get her cranberry juice for breakfast one morning. My water glass sat empty for a good 10-15 minutes on the Pool Deck one afternoon. Destination Services should probably enforce more mobility controls on the tours - i.e. if you can't walk 50 feet in 15 minutes, you probably shouldn't be on a 3-walker rated tour...but they'd probably get sued if they tried to enforce that, so I see why they leave it up to each person. Also, did I mention that the Internet absolutely sucked? Sucked to the point of being unusable? I tried my iPad in my cabin, my iPad in the computer lounge, the computers in the computer lounge, my iPhone everywhere in the ship, and I couldn't ever get a decent connection, and I'd get logged off every 8-12 minutes, right in the middle of a session. Sometimes you couldn't even reach the server to log off. It was bad. Really bad. Hideously bad. Don't expect to work on board if you need to - you're better off taking a tablet ashore and poaching wifi from a cafe or a hotel. Positives: Pretty much everything else. Service was stellar 99.9% of the time. Food was very good to excellent. The oldest ship in the Regent fleet looks fresh and modern again. And the suites are large in every category, which is a huge plus for us. Would we sail Navigator again? Absolutely. This was our third trip on this ship, and she's getting better each time we sail her. Would we sail Regent again? Well, let's just say that we had one more Regent cruise booked when we embarked in Barcelona, and by the time we debarked in Haifa, we had three booked, two on Explorer and one on Voyager. We chose this cruise because it coincided with some free time. Boy, are we glad we did. The ports were beautiful and, for the most part, we had great tour guides. The Navigator had just been refurbished and the rooms were beautiful. It was our fourth Regent cruise-second on the Navigator-and we had a great time. The entertainment was first rate and we really enjoyed the cruise director, John Barron, who got to know us personally. Every night, we were also entertained by the wonderful house band. The staff and food were wonderful-it was hard not to try everything. The ports were mostly beautiful and we had good weather. We liked most of the tour guides. I would suggest that each has either a microphone or provides us with "whispers" for better hearing. The best tours were in Pisa, Taormina and Costa Brava. I would give this trip a solid 9.5. We chose this cruise to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. Having sailed on several 5* lines, we wanted something extra special, so we opted for Regent. We stayed in a concierge suite 836, just above the small lifeboat. This position was perfect. Navigator is a lovely ships, even better for her recent refurbishment, she looks wonderful. This ship has everything you would want, lovely theatre, very cozy and comfortable, just one show per night at 9.30pm. They do a crew show at the end of the cruise, which was very entertaining. The crew are amazing, always happy and can't do enough for you, without imposing. Being just 490 passengers, you get to know them quickly. Faces recognised, even when off the ship. We made several friends very quickly too, everyone was so nice, Americans, Canadians, British and others. Dining was a wonderful experience. The Compass Rose is very light with lights that change colour. One night was blue, the next pink. The food was as we expected, excellent. We even ordered a curry to our taste one night, ready to enjoy the following night, we thoroughly enjoyed this. Prime 7 is off La Veranda in the evening. This is the grill and the steak and lobster is excellent. We managed to eat here twice. On the 2nd night we had a lovely surprise cake for our anniversary, even though the actual day had past. We shared this with our table guests. The pool area had plenty of loungers with nice toweling covers, plenty of room around you with a small side table for your drink. There is a bar and ice cream available and the pool grill serving food until 4pm. We don't usually sit around the pool on other ships, as this was the only pool we did and felt very relaxed doing so. One other nice surprise was an invitation to join the cruise director John Barron for dinner in The Compass Rose, which of course, we accepted. What a great character he is, very funny. Most mornings we ate breakfast in La Veranda as we were on a tour, plenty of choice here. Compass Rose was too slow if you are in a hurry to catch a coach. The included tours were very good, although an extra hour to some of the places would have be better, like the caves in Bari for example, we missed seeing the white cave. The trip to Muranos' famous glass factory was only 1 hours, I needed much longer, but did manage to buy some glass, although it was rushed. We really liked this ship and would love to sail on her again, sooner if possible. She really did feel like home from home. Read Less

The entertainment was good, not great, but the cruise director made for a fun time. The variety of shore excursions offered was good, and we really enjoyed most of them. I highly recommended a trip on this ship, and the stops in the Mediterranean were beautiful. The cabins are the largest we have ever had on a cruise - bathroom with tub and shower, walk-in closet. We booked an oceanview and the window was so large that we had great views. The Prime 7 was an excellent, included steakhouse. They only allow for one reservation per cruise but usually have space for another visit as the cruise goes on. This is a pricey cruiseline, but with all of the included items (airfare to Europe), we felt like it was money well spent. I would not hesitate to go with Regent again. Read Less

Let me reassure you it was the best cruise line we have ever cruised with and we have cruised with many others including Cunard and Royal Caribbean. Embarkation was quick and easy and we were met by friendly staff handing out champagne. A nice start! Cabins were not quite ready so we went to the restaurant for lunch. The staff were there to make sure you had a table of your choice and were serving drinks to our table. It was a self service restaurant, The Veranda, the food was excellent and again the staff were really helpful, especially with elderly passengers carrying their food to the tables for them, always with a smile. Nothing was ever too much trouble. When we arrived to our cabin we were very impressed with the cleanliness and the size of it! A bathroom with bath and shower, large king size bed, seating area which led into the balcony which although small plenty of room for a table and 2 chairs which we used often when the weather was nice. I loved the walk in wardrobe which had loads of space for hanging clothes plus drawers that even I couldn't fill and I take a lot of just in case clothes with me!!!! There was a bottle of champagne on ice and a lovely selection of fresh fruit. The fruit was replenished daily and the fridge filled with soft and alcoholic drinks plus bottled water which was also replaced as we used it. The bed was very comfortable with lovely fresh Cotten bedding and the most comfortable pillows! We were in a cabin at the rear of the ship which unfortunately was as noisy as other passengers said it was!! We slept with earplugs in and managed at first but after a few days of this noise we went to reception to ask if there was another cabin we could have as we were very tired from the disturbances due to the noise in the cabin, we found out we were near the propellers which is the reason for the noise and the vibrations which was constant. They were really sympathetic and upgraded us to a coseirge cabin at no extra cost which was mid ship. No noise or vibration!!! Fantastic! I would advise to pay the extra for mid ship cabins if you will struggle with the noise and vibrations. It was extreme vibrations! The food was superb in all the restaurants and the staff in all areas of the ship were friendly and helpful at all times. Not having to sign for every drink and not think about the price of everything was so easy. Plus free excursions which we booked ahead of the cruise. All online and simple to do. The tickets for these were in our cabin on arrival. The shows were pretty much the same as all cruises but were good entertainment. The seating for shows was very comfortable and we never struggled to find seating. Room service is fantastic. The day of departure was well organised and easy too. Coach transfers and hotel pre cruise etc were all organised for us and coach to airport at end of cruise had regency staff there until we entered the airport so we all knew where to go. This was a top class cruise company that we would highly recommend to anyone. Don't believe the negative reviews as we couldn't fault a thing. Worth the extra cost and will definately use them again. This is still our favorite Regent SS ship. Great crew, wonderful large stateroom, fun days and a smooth crossing. Entertainment: Some nice comics but they had many movie nights. Like so many other ships, entertainment is no longer goo. Dining: Prime 7 is always a great steak venue. Service in the main dining room, Compass Rose, is always great. When we arrived in Barcelona we had an overnight and enjoyed seeing the beginning of the renovations. Upon arrival, teams of folks waiting at the dock with lines of dumpsters. Seeing all the deck furniture, pool furniture, lounge chairs, dining room furniture being removed was exciting. We saw the photos of what the Navigator will look like after dry dock. RSS wants all it's fleet to be modern and look like their latest new ship, the Explorer. So nice to see our favorite ship being "fixed up". Read Less

Also 50 percent non USA, mostly Great Britain. Excellent lectures. Only down side is that ship needs a redo as it is looking a little tired. Very friendly attentive staff. Small ship 450 folks allowed one to get to know some fellow passengers and staff. Will try them again. This was our 14 th cruise, but first with Regent. Thought Crystal rooms had finer decor and as noted ship needs a redo. Getting on and off excellent due also to the fact that it is a small ship. Strange that they landed at different terminal then left from and they provided bus back to original terminal where we had parked which was quick and non issue. Not a fan of Miami vs Fort Lauderdale as traffic worse in Miami as we drive down from Sarasota , Florida. Read Less

Beautiful and well maintained boat. The employees were friendly and helpful. The ship is amazing, beautiful and easy to navigate around. Spent a fair amount of time at Galileo's bar which was fun and the drinks were great. Best dinner at Prime 7, small filet and crab legs were delicious. Compass Rose was also good, but the evening dinner at Setti Mari was a disappointment. Did not make it to any shows, but heard they were good. Did a couple excursions including Atlantis. It was well organized and worth the day visit. We also visited Great Stirrup Cay which I really enjoyed. I loved just relaxing and listening to the steel drum band. Also had a massage at Canyon Ranch Spa and enjoyed that as well. The gym is just okay. It's small and during high peak hours there was no cardio available. However, I enjoyed walking the deck when we were docked. There is a little track you can stroll around to get some exercise in. They have a small putting green and shuffleboard on deck 12 which got some action. The pool is small, but perfect for this size ship. Jacuzzi's were used and they were clean and the right temperature. Other than a just okay meal at Setti Mari everything was amazing. Read Less

We have cruised on various other cruise lines starting in 1976. The Regent Paul Gauguin 2x was a past similar experience for us. The Dining Rooms - Compass Rose, Prime 7, and Sette Mari have tasty menus, food and excellent service staffs. The Patio Grill at noontime biggest shortcoming is the lack of ice to cool salads with mayo and other non heat resistant dressings and contents sitting out in the open sun without being cooled by ice. The Island Excursions for the most part consisting of riding up one steep hill and down another. SAt. Bart's is over hyped . Also, this can be said of the remaining Isles. The Amazon River stops at the small villages at which the residents live with Sloths, Monkeys and Rats as pets. The opera House at Manaus is not to be missed. Most of the tourist items for sale in the amazon region are prohibited from entry into the US. Also, the Piranha fishing and Boi Bumba trips are lots of fun. The on board entertain consists of a resident song and dance troupe (Jean Ryan) from Miami and various comedy acts billed as "Direct from Las Vegas". The Pool Bar on Deck 10 has impecable service and a never ending selection of drinks. The pre-cruise hotel stay at the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables had the most comfortable bed I ever slept on and the Breakfast Buffet silky scrambled eggs were the best I ever have tasted. Read Less

My wife and I flew Delta Airlines from Ft. Lauderdale taking off at 6:45 a.m.. We arrived in Montreal at 12:10 p.m.. We took a taxi from the airport to the cruise terminal (fixed rate of $40) arriving portside about 1:30 to board the Navigator. This left us plenty of time before the ship was scheduled to sail for Quebec at 6:00 pm. When boarded our suite was still not ready and we were directed to deck 10 for lunch. We stepped out of the elevator to the pool area which was windy and damp form a slight rain. People were seated at tables covered from the rain. We couldn’t find an open table but we soon realized there was another restaurant just inside featuring a large buffet with all kinds of items. We were seated at a nice table overlooking the port and the Montreal skyline. The waiter poured us water and then the drink steward offered to get us wine or any drink we desired. I have cruised the best of the big cruise lines and you all you cruisers know that time after the initial boarding it's always hectic and even with only 490 passengers this one was busy also, but it quickly quieted down to a very enjoyable experience. Shortly after lunch our suite was ready so we descended to deck 7 and down the hall to Cabin 722 on the Port side of the ship, forward of the center line of the ship’s hull. I was looking forward to all the ports of call on this cruise which included Quebec, Sydney, Halifax, & St. Johns in Canada followed by the US ports of Portland, Boston, New York, Norfolk, Charleston, and Canaveral ending in Miami, fourteen days later. Also provided on the cruise was a Smithsonian Museum Representative who presented on four different occasions in the Seven Seas Lounge. These presentations included many interesting insights into the areas we would see and their significance they played in a historical sense. Always tea, coffee and a large assortment of pastries are provided while you listen. If not able to attend you can watch them from the comfort of your suite on the television channel devoted to replaying them. Also the TV provides a channel that the Cruise Director reviews all upcoming event for the day and also another channel reviews the menus from the three restaurants for that evening. The food quality is very high and the presentations are what you would expect in an exclusive dining environment. The variety of menu choices is extensive, but I found the portion sizes to be small. I believe this is based on the desires of the very frequent, repeat cruisers you find on the Regent Cruise Ships. The passengers for the most part are slim and in very good physical condition for what is most likely a post retirement age group. I found asking for an extra portion was met with the very enthusiastic reply “of course sir”! The Wine Sommelier would suggest a choice of recommended wines for dinner, but you can chose whatever your preference might be. The menu of wines, mixed drinks and beers available was six pages. Available where some very high end spirits and wines which were available for extra cost but all regular drinks are no charge on Regent’s all inclusive package. I found the beer choices available were severely lacking for a craft beer lover, so I mostly stayed with wines, martinis, and some old fashioned favorites like whiskey sours or even the occasional margarita. The available tours or excursions were extensive and my wife and I enjoyed all our choices. We found at most we would have liked to stay longer at all our excursions so they seemed too short in duration. Most all excursions are free of charge although two did incur a charge ranging from $89 to $106 per passenger if chosen. These were Colonial Williamsburg and the more extensive NYC tours. Some tours do fill up and you are then put on a waiting list. Regent at their discretion may add a second tour to accommodate those on the waiting list. On several tours the ship put out a buffet so you could eat before going out if the tour times conflicted with normal dining times. Also on those days they slightly relaxed the dinner dress code which is normally casual elegant (slacks & collared shirts for men, skirts, slacks and blouses for women). The larger production stage shows were very good and there was always something going on in the lounges every night for entertainment. Prior to the shows an attentive bar staff is available for drinks. The ship has nice shopping areas that are well stocked, but are closed when in port. Also every day at 4:00 pm is tea time followed by Trivia Questions at 4:30 where groups of passengers answer 15 random questions provided by the cruise director. It’s a fun time and allows passengers to get to know each other, if you prefer you can go it alone or as a couple but when competing against a group of six the odds are much higher one of them will have the answer. The ship provides prizes to the winning team. The weather in Canada was cooler than normal due to the remnants of Hurricane Kate that directed some artic temperatures down over Quebec our first destination port. Normal temperature for that time of year is 48 degrees and we saw 39 degrees. After that it warmed up each day and by the time we got to Portland and Maine we were climbing into the 60s. NYC was mid 70s although Norfolk dropped to lower 60s followed by the 80s in Cape Canaveral & Miami Florida. I highly recommend sailing with Regent Seven Seas Cruise Line. Most passengers I spoke with would never consider any other cruise line and have cruised Regent many times, as with anything if you look hard for problems or have issues with everyone and everything you'll always have a problem. No one is flawless, and I feel this group has put together a very nice experience you will in all probability enjoy. Read Less
