Having done many ocean cruises we decided to try a river cruise and this itinerary was ideal, we were fully escorted from St Pancras and the escort/guide was very good. The food in the first week was very good, comparable with sea cruising without the wide choice of menu however for the second week was not quite as good. Lunch was initially served in the dining room but was then changed to the lounge which wasn't so good because one was sat in arm chairs rather than at a table. We had pre-booked an excursion package and some of the excursions didn't live up to expectation although others were very good. The entertainment in the evenings wasn't very good, just a Romanian chap playing a keyboard and singing in broken English the same songs every night. There was a quiz night organised one night which was good and properly run. The biggest disappointment was on the last evening when we had gone for dinner in the middle of packing I must have left my Kindle out in the room because when we went to leave next morning we couldn't find it anywhere. I reported it to reception and his response was what did I expect him to do, I also reported it to River Cruise Line but they were not interested. I don't think it would have been the maid who took it but we know other people had access to the cabin. This has certainly whetted our appetite for doing more river cruises but possibly not with River Cruise Line. Read Less

Wanting to visit cities on the Rhine that we had not been to before. Overall it was a good Cruise the Staff like on any Cruise are fantastic. The Ports of call were great & well organised. The food was OK my wife said the Fish dishes were good, my Meat dishes not so. We had been on this Ship 3 years ago & knew what to expect. The Boarding was smooth & we noticed that the lounge/Bar area had been updated. However the Cabins were the same sad rooms that we had left some 3 years ago. If you are short in height be prepared for marks in the back of your legs. The Bunk bed stile used has a wooden frame around the mattress, which is some way from the cabin floor, not making it too easy to get out of bed (in the night!!!). The cabins could do with updating as well as the carpets etc.which look tired now. That aside we enjoyed as always the company of the passengers on board. Do not join this ship if you are expecting entertainment, the lone Musician was poor but there again what do you expect!! It would have been good like lat time to have imported local Musicians from the last port of call. All in all a good Cruise but will not be using this ship again until it uses double beds which I don't think will be some time soon. Read Less

We chose this cruise to discover World War 1 history. It included two excellent speakers, one of whom had written a book on Pashendaele, and excellent excursions with knowledgeable tour leaders. The ship is small and cosy with extremely friendly staff. There were several ways of getting to the ship and we made our own way. Some did Eurostar, others flew and another group took the ferry. As this was a relatively new cruise there were some changes. We did not have enough time to look around Brussels because our other visits were too long but only a few found this a problem. Special mention needs to be made of the trips to Ypres, Tyne Cot and Mons as well as other notable WW1 sites. The lectures and discussions in the evenings were very though provoking and added to our knowledge of this period of history. The only disappointment was Antwerp where the guides did not follow the WW1 theme, and the weather which was no t kind to us! Read Less

My friend and I chose this cruise from The River Cruise Line as it went up the Danube to Vienna, Bucharest, Bratislava and other smaller places. It was our first cruise and we weren't sure what to expect. We needn't have worried. The coach took us to Passau where we joined ms Serenity. Embarkation and disembarkation at the various stopping places went very easily. The ship was very clean and well maintained. Our cabin was small though we didn't feel claustrophobic and was very comfortable. The crew were marvellous and nothing was too much trouble. Food was delicious and there was plenty of it. We had a quiz night which was hilarious and a show by the crew which again was very funny. The excursions were well managed though we did find the constant amount of information the guides gave us became information overload. Everyone on board - all adults no children - were very friendly and there was a lovely atmosphere. My friend and I would certainly go back on another riverboat cruise by The River Cruise Line. This Cruise, our first, was booked over the occasion of my 70th birthday, Always an ambition of mine to cruise the Rhine and I was not disappointed. The crew from the Captain downwards were very friendly and efficient, I can give an accolade to the executive chef Clinton James for his fabulous food and its presentation. The ship was a delight to sail on despite all the troubles of the River Cruise line prior to departure. I would have no hesitation in giving my recommendation for this cruise and just as an aside am going to book the same ship next year on the Danube. We sailed from Koblenz to Basle through some beautiful scenery and fortunately had little or no rain over the week. The Cruise director was knowledgeable and approachable as were the cabin staff and crew. We were joined on the cruise by two celebrities who gave us excellent entertainment and the benefit of their individual knowledge of specialised subjects. David Harper on antiques and Lesley Waters on cooking/baking. The shore excursions were pricey but value for money I was absolutely astounded by the visit to the music museum, not to be missed by any traveller. The Rhine falls, not up to Lake Victoria standard nonetheless impressive and Lake Tittisee also not to be missed. Our resident driver was English and the coach (right hand drive) was roomy and comfortable. Overall I have to award the experience five stars Read Less
