I just came of a 8 day cruise on the Carnival Horizon and it was the worst experience I have ever had on a Carnival ship. I will start by saying that the boarding process was fine. Once on board we went to the Lido deck while waiting for the cabins to be ready. When we did go to our cabin #6445, we found that the cabin was nice, but we found that there were not any bathrobes in the cabin which your advertising states that there should be. I will say that the cabin steward Muh was very good and did a good job throughout the week. My party had the any time dining and on the first night we went to dinner and were seated at the back of the dining room walking past numerous empty tables. We ordered our dinners and appetizers and then waited for them to be served. The appetizers came and some were good and others were inedible. When the main course arrived not all of my parties meals arrived at the same time and when they did they were either warm or cold. We all agreed that it might just be because it was the first night. The next morning was a sea day and we all met for breakfast for the sea day brunch. We we were seated it wasn’t very busy yet. We again ordered our meals and the same issues occurred. The food was not brought out at the same time. One of my party order the Seafood tower and the bagel that came with it was so hard it was inedible. We constantly had to keep asking for coffee to be refilled instead of the wait staff offering to do it. We also had to refill our own water. One morning my wife tried the 12 hour French toast and it came out and it was raw inside. That afternoon and every day we went to the Lido deck for lunch and I will tell you that the only thing in our opinion that was good was either the Deli which you had wait in a very long line or Guy’s Burgers which also had long lines. In my opinion that was due to the poor quality of the food on the buffet. That evening we again met for dinner and we we again escorted to the very back of the dining room past many empty tables. We were put in a secondary dining area that was so dark you would not have be able to see the food when served. At this point I went to the hostess to complain and the Maitre D heard me and I explained the situation to him. He did arrange for us to have a table closer to the from and also gave us a very good waitress named Healene who we had for the remainder of the trip. Unfortunately the quality of the food never improved for the remainder of the trip. We were constantly having to asked for something else to eat or just not finishing our food. We went to several shows in the lounges and found them to be of very poor quality and actually walked out of several of them. The one that we looked forward to called the Celestial Strings was a huge disappointment. They also offered one that was Music that was from the Big Band time that was ruined by interjecting modern music into it. I know that this is a new and bigger ship, but I found it to be not a easy ship to get around in. In my opinion, to get to certain areas of the ship you have to either go up or down a deck to get to them. Even though I found the dining experience to be bad, there was one thing that surpassed that and that is the elevator system. I have never heard so many complaints by so many people about the elevators in all my years of cruising. It has to be the most idiotic system I have ever seen. You press a button and you are assigned to an elevator and you have no idea when that elevator will arrive because you don’t see what floor it is on. Many a time after waiting several minutes we would end up taking the stairs. This is not a big deal when it is one or two flights, but is very annoying when you are on deck four and you want to go to deck 10. The ship has a Serenity area that is just for adults, but it is beyond my understanding how you don’t have a pool on that same area. We did use the pool at the stern of the ship but found it to be overcrowded and felt like sardines when in it. We also went into the hot tubs on several occasions and they were just warm and the jets were very weak. No air in the jets for the relaxing feel. My wife and I both enjoy going to the casino when we cruise and I will tell you that we found the casino staff all very nice. The only complaint I have is that the cigarette smoke and smell is so bad that being non smokers it is very hard to stay for very long. You would think that this being a new ship they would have done a better job on recirculating the air in the casino to remove the smell. Even when the casino was closed when in port if you had to walk thru it, it stunk. I have been a frequent cruiser on Carnival and have never had a bad experience until now Read Less

As a family that cruises regularly, my husband and I decided to spend our family vacation this year aboard the Carnival Horizon, traveling with our six year old and 10 month old daughters. Worst and most expensive mistake we ever made. Being that we have cruised with Carnival several times in the past and had wonderful experiences I neglected to read the reviews prior to booking with the Horizon. The customer service experience was horrible. On the very first day and immediately after embarkation I was trying to take a picture of my daughter next to the life size towel animal and because it was with my own camera and not carnivals, I wasn’t allowed to take the photo. Just another tactic to force you into buying the mediocre and expensive photos through carnival instead of being able to capture your own memories. Shortly after that, my youngest daughter and I were rudely kicked out of what I thought was a kids pool because she wasn’t potty trained even though she was wearing a little swimmer. Of course she isn’t potty trained, she’s 10 months old. I was very embarrassed needless to say. I stood in a very long line at guest services just to be told that she isn’t allowed in any pool on any deck and there is no designated swimming or splashing area for babies who aren’t potty trained. You would think that they would have this policy listed on the website or at least somewhere visible but absolutely not. Oh and by the way, she wasn’t allowed in the toddler/baby play area either. So we paid full price for a child to go on a cruise and not be allowed to participate in any fun activities for children. It was Mother’s Day and also my birthday. What a gift. The ship itself was extremely crowded with no guidance from the service team members who were impersonal and often very rude. I stood in front in the pixels desk for about two minutes without any greeting or acknowledgement of my presence. Once the service member acknowledged me, I was greeted with a crude “can I help you?”. The food was bland and oftentimes horrible and left my husband sick for 3 days. The buffet lines were out of control to the point that we avoided breakfast due to the chaos. We missed our excursions because the ship time wasn’t coordinated with the time at the port. There were people walking around in common areas screaming, cursing and even physically fighting and nothing was being done about it. There was so much noise in the hallways and on the balconies in the middle of the night that it made getting a good nights rest nearly impossible. On one of the last nights my husband scheduled a massage for me. It was absolutely the worst massage I have ever received and definitely the most expensive one. The masseuse decided that it would be a great idea to interview me face to face prior to the massage. She asked several questions that I didn’t feel comfortable answering regarding my home and personal life. I simply wanted a massage. Not a therapist. She was very rough and stated that it was supposed to hurt because my muscles were too tense. She then rubbed a bogus lotion on my back and wanted to charge me over $100 to purchase the product that she insisted would miraculously cure all of my stress and tension (her recommendation). After refusing several times I became annoyed with the relentless pressure to buy her products. By the way, she told me that my skin was extremely dry; the driest she’s ever seen actually; as she proceeded to recommend her almost $200 milk bath. I was insulted and very irritated. If her goal was to do the opposite of helping me relax she succeeded. Overall, this trip cost us around $4,000 not including the onboard expenses, gratuities and excursions. We could have made better use of our money for sure. That was definitely our last cruise with Carnival. If you have low expectations, no children and just want to party, the horizon might just be the ship for you. Otherwise please do your research first! Read Less

This was a cruise for my sister's retirement celebration. Unfortunately we had a serious illness in my family just prior to leaving and my husband stayed at home. Carnival was horrible to deal with. Guest Services were of no help - they couldn't resolve anything. Carnival arbitrarily cancelled shore excursions, added restaurant reservations (some all on the same night and time) and then wiped out my credit card so we didn't have charging privileges. Each time I figured out they had screwed up something it meant a 45 min. wait in line at Guest Services. I would be told it was taken care of then I'd find out it wasn't, leading to extra charges, rebooking shore excursions and hoping I would get a refund. The standard reply was " in 7 -10 days when you get off the cruise we should refund your money to your credit card." Couldn't give me a receipt or anything. When asked what if they don't? I was told take it up with Carnival's main office. So far no refunds have appeared. Surprise. I had booked two balcony rooms and a suite. You couldn't get to the rooms until 1:30pm day of embarkation. That's normal, however this ship has nowhere to go until then. We boarded at 1pm. Not a seat or place to stand anywhere. The ship was very hot and stayed that way throughout the cruise. Everyone was complaining. My sister's room had no air conditioning so they brought her a fan and thought she'd be happy. It took day 3 before she had air conditioning in her room. Never saw anyone cleaning. Not surprised we had a family member get ill. Food in dining room was awful. Tiny portions and no flavor. Pig and Anchor was good at lunch but awful at night. Didn't have the items to make the drinks they advertised. Food was very cold and took forever. Lobster shak was awful. Food took forever and then tasted like grocery store frozen shrimp and seafood salad. I did enjoy the trivia onboard. The cruise director and staff were pleasant and fun. The steakhouse and other pay restaurants were good except for the ones mentioned above. The casino was very small and terribly smokey. This was my last Carnival cruise - the staff could care less if your problem was resolved and the entire ship was disorganized. The lack of sanitizing was troublesome. The elevator board was disgusting -it never got cleaned. Many of the handwashing stations were out of order. Read Less

I chose this cruise as the best entertainment option for my family. My kids are 12 and 3 years old, and our last cruise proved to be a great way to entertain them both. Carnival seemed to be a great option for more kids attractions so we have it a try. It was a disaster from the moment we walked on the ship. We entered on the 3rd floor/atrium, which felt tiny as the crowds of people flooded through the doors. At this point, and throughout the rest of the cruise, the silence of the staff was infuriating. They have this way of just allowing you to be lost and confused...they don’t anticipate needs, address questions clearly, provide clarity or direction...instead they seemed just as lost and confused as everyone else. You have to ask questions, no one will use cues to proactively address your needs. The hours of the attractions were confusing and inconsistent. Some days the teen room was 24 hours and others it didn’t open til 7 pm. Some days there were 4 buffets open in Lido, other days there were one. The layout of the common areas is impractical and there was constant congestion in the halls, elevators, and pool decks. Elevator wait times were also incredibly long - there were several times we just carried our toddler’s stroller up and down the stairs so we could move on with our day. For days I attempted to take my daughter to the toddler pool in the Dr. Seuss area on deck 12, and each time there were adults laying in the ankle deep water just sunbathing. Granted, the resort pool was always so crowded that they probably just wanted some space to refresh, but there was no regulation of the space to ensure kids had a designated space to play. This caused a chaotic spillover of children in adult spaces (and vice versa) so there was just no peace. The main dining room food was disgusting, either fried completely dry by heating lamps or just bland and underwhelming. The serving utensils were left under the lights and were usually so hot that you needed to wrap a napkin around the handle to use them. Food layout wasn’t thoughtful, and again no direction when it came to the lines at the buffet so there were long periods of congestion and confusion from people who entered at the wrong end or that didn’t know the selection was the same on both sides. It was usually other passengers that ended up explaining it and organizing the line, while staff looked on silently. At the other included outlets the lines were long and staff was passive and unfriendly. We patronized Meridian restaurant and were greeted by confused hostesses that didn’t know If they wanted you to wait in line, sit, or come back later - even with a confirmed table from MyTime Dining checkin. Wait staff in Meridian we’re not thoughtful, ignoring our feedback to make corny jokes - clearly a taught tactic. It was impersonal and insincere and an infuriating disregard for our experience. There were rules listed but not enforced, like dripping wet bikini-clad cruisers in the dining spaces contrary to signage, or rows of seats saved during the deck movie. There was no curfew for minors - all night, children could be found wandering through the casino and pool decks. Security had no control at all, and cleaning staff ignored them as they ran by and disrupted other passengers. Not one person said “no running” or asked where their guardians were...and many of these kids looked as young as 9 or 10. These kids also wrecked the self service ice cream spaces, leaving it on the counters and all over the floor, and staff were not attentive to the mess. On the promenade it was like walking through a flea market - every 5 steps someone is shoving items in your face trying to persuade you to buy another useless thing. Perfume, jewelry, shot glasses, scarves....everything. It was irritating and invasive. At the ports, loudspeaker announcements directed passengers to level 0 to disembark; when the elevator doors opened, another silent staff member standing there waiting for you to ASK if you should go left or right (there was no signage, and clearly multiple exits). Another lost opportunity to anticipate a common need and streamline my guest experience. The beds were rock hard, so much so that my kids even complained of back and shoulder pain. The shower drain didn’t work the first 2 days and my bathroom flooded constantly. It wasn’t fixed until I waited out my room attendant to ask her about it - who until then I had never physically seen. She admitted to noticing the pile of wet towels the prior day, but obviously never cleaned the shower or bothered to follow up on the flooding. My room attendant also accidentally tossed out my toddlers binkie while cleaning and didn’t admit it until I asked about it (after tearing the room apart). I was left with an inconsolable kid in an uncomfortable bed, every night for the rest of the trip. She also left the dirty cups and dishes in the room every time. If you are the type of traveler with any level of service expectations, this isn’t your ship. This ship is for low expectations, and people who are ok with paying $4K to still be left to find and figure things out yourself. NEVER AGAIN, Carnival! Read Less

My wife and I chose this ship because of it's itinerary. With stops in Curacao and Aruba, two islands that we had never been to before. First things first. This was my wife's 22 Cruise and her 19th on Carnival. She has been a Platinum member of Carnival Cruise Lines for many years. 1st when we asked for "Early dining"(6:00pm) we were told it was not available. We were given "Anytime Dining" which requires you to check in each and every evening. 1st night we didn't get seated until 8:15 pm which was totally unacceptable. When the waiter and his assistants took our orders, they couldn't remember our names, what we prefered to drink or anything of the sort. Our Room Steward was pretty much a ghost the whole cruise. We met him in the hallway for about 1 1/2 minutes and then never saw him again. Some days the cabin was cleaned, but many times it wasn't or done in a rush. I am a "Gold" member of Carnival. When I was issued my Sail Card, they issued me a BLUE card, (usually reserved for 1st time cruisers) which required waiting at the Customer Service Desk to get corrected. Service on this ship is HORRIBLE! You have to wait 15-20 minutes at any of the bars just to get a drink. We had purchased the "Cheers" drink package ($980.00 extra) but have to wait forever to get a freaking drink. Staff on this ship are RUDE, even to Platinum Guests. If you ask them a question, they act like you offended them by asking a question. With the problems with our dining times, and the very poor service, I felt like the $111.92 (each) for gratuities was like being mugged. When we contacted Carnival Cruise Lines about out poor vacation that we had invested almost $4000 in, they acted like they couldn't care less. My wife says that this is most likely her LAST cruise on Carnival after 24 years of cruising with this company. Do yourself a favor, pick a different ship, and preferably, a different cruise line. Carnival keeps raising their prices, and eliminating the perks for all levels of members. We are cruising again in January, on a different Cruise line. Read Less

As a preface, I have been on approx. 8 cruises, with companies Carnival, Norwegian, Celebrity, and Royal Caribbean. Understanding the general quality of cruise ship food and the general cruise ship experiences, I have to say this boat is the worst I have experienced. First, the pre-booking for restaurant reservations system is awful. If you misplace your email confirming reservation, you have to wait to get on the boat to determine your actual time. I spent 45 min on hold to confirm one reservation...the short story is corporate told me that “the boat” would get back to me, which it never did. They also confirmed a reservation for the chef’s table; however, when I got on the boat, told me they had no record. When I showed them the email confirmation they told me they had no openings ( this was for my wife’s birthday by the way). They called me back later to offer me two times, both of which were the most inconvenient times based on the ship’s itinerary ( middle of being in port at Curaçao and on the formal night). The room cleaning service was the worst I have ever experienced on a cruise...by far. My wife and I are low maintenance people. We keep the do not disturb on the door most of the time. We asked to have the room cleaned twice in four days at reasonable times and the room was never cleaned. We left for 6 hrs at Curaçao and when we got back nothing had been done. This is keeping in mind that we had one of the Hanava suites, which is supposed to be one of the upgraded rooms on the ship. As a side note, don’t try to get a drink at the exclusive Havana Bar....the cruise might be over before you get your drink. The entertainment is substandard for a boat of this size. The food is awful in comparison to other cruise lines. Even though it is a “new” boat it is clear that Carnival cut corners for the bottom line. All and all, stay away from this boat and cruise line. We decided on this one simply for the ports; however, I believe people would be much better served with other options. As a final note to emphasize the misery that is this cruise, my wife and I are catching a flight from Aruba to cut the cruise short bc that is better than continuing to stay on this boat. Read Less

I have been on many cruises more than 10. I have also been on many Carnival Ships. I thought because this was a brand new ship we couldn't go wrong. That was not the case. The biggest problem with this ship is there are so many cabins for the almost 4000 people that theres not much left for entertainment. The food in my opinion was terrible. We ate in the dining room as well as the buffet and I was completely disappointed with the food. It was less than mediocre. I waited appox 25 minutes at times for a drink. They have taken all the fun entertainment away. No more Vegas style shows, no more beautiful glass elevators. No more elegant dining unless your willing to pay $95.00 a person in they're steak restaurant. They have replaced the entertainment with passenger cabins. Small pools, NO ENTERTAINMENT HORRIBLE FOOD. Sad because Carnival use to be one of the best. Read Less

Breakfast doesn’t start until 7, so if you are a early morning person you have to wait forever to eat. The entertainment was no where near as good as any of our previous cruises. And it they scheduled everything around the same times. So you spend all day with nothing to do unless you want to pay $12.95 to watch a movie in the imax theatre. This is the only cruise we have been on that you don’t have to be early for the entertainment. You can show up 10 min late and still get a great seat. I could go on and on but don’t I don’t want to rant. We will never cruise with carnival again! Very disappointed! Read Less

Do NOT book this room. I have sailed on other ships and stayed in the vista rooms but this one is a horrible design. The window is boarded up and the the headboard of the bed is up against the window. You don't get a view any better than the obstructed view rooms, yet you pay an extreme premium for this room. If you are not going to keep the bed together as one bed it gets even worse. You cannot walk around the bed to get to the desk and chair without scraping your back on the TV hanging on the wall. The picture that Carnival displays on the web site for this room number is "representative of a suite" according to customer service. I wonder how you are supposed to know what you are buying if the picture is not accurate? The guy at the front desk on the boat was very rude when I asked about the design of the room. He said I should have verified the room from the picture before I bought it. Guess he hasn't seen the picture either. No one on the boat was willing to help us move the furniture in the room so that we could be comfortable. They didn't even care enough to come to the room with us to take a look at the issues. Eight days on this boat without a single person caring enough to stop by the room. Basically I got scammed and paid a premium price for it. The casual dining quality has gone down over the years. You now get the same thing every single day. The selection used to be updated every day and there used to be a fancy midnight buffet with specialty foods in art form but none of that exists now. Very boring. The excursion staff is lacking in preparedness. They should be proactive in setting up available excursions. They shouldn't find out days before or even the night before that an excursion will not run. Very stressful for those of us who like to have completed plans in place before we leave on vacation so that we can fully enjoy our time instead of scrambling to find things to do. The only good thing onboard is the entertainment aboard ship. Read Less

We selected this cruise because it was new and also had a new attraction called sky rider-I think. For being a Thanksgiving cruise, food, activities and attractions were very bad. This company spends a lot of marketing and publicity in this new ship and its attractions that seems very appealing especially for a family with teeneagers like us. Well the first surprise when we arrived to this ship, was a letter in our stateroom indicating that the sky rider attraction was not going to be available at all during this holiday cruise. Shame on Carnival. This is a very bad and against to their marketing in this ship. We were so upset but it was a Holiday cruise. Next the food was awful. They had only junk food. In order to have decent food, we need it to eat in their specialty restaurants. The only thing that truly saved this trip were the ports. We cautious or at least ask if your cruise will have all amenities and good food that they offered to you before final payment and before departing. Read Less

We unfortunately took a B2B cruise on the Horizon. Look, we are not demanding passengers, but if we could have gotten off the ship on after the first leg and gotten out money for the second leg returned we would have left the ship...and we are at the Platinum Loyalty Level With Carnival. This experience was THAT BAD. The salad bar at the buffet was the worst. Minimal selections, and pre-made salads that were drowned in mayo or oil. Never seen anything like that on any other ship...seriously..it was a joke. The Sky-Cycle was down (AGAIN) for the entire second leg. Witnessed a crew member scolding passengers at the sky-cycle on the first leg. The passenger wasn't doing anything wrong other than asking questions in a polite manner. But this one female crew member just got testy/nasty and childlike with her responses. (This provides a glimpse into Crew member selection standards and behavior expectations.) We watched an officer scold another employee in front of other passengers at the elevators for nothing more than missing to mop a small section of the floor. I am talking a real dressing down that was embarrassing for the crew member and other passengers. (This provides a glimpse into ships officer corp selection, standards, training and leadership ability). The food in the main dining room that was brought to the table was wrong and/or incomplete at least three times (maybe four). (This provides a glimpse into the ships operation management ability). The spa staff was a joke. They could care less if a sale/appointment was made. No greetings of the day when passing through. The staff was actually more engaged in their phones, doing their own nails or makeup, or sitting reading a book. (This provides a glimpse into accountability, training and holding to standards of quality). Next comes the gym. In the evening from 4:30-8:00PM, seems like the entire crew descends on the passenger gym to use the equipment leaving very little for paying passengers to use. There is a small hard-floored area on the port side of the gym with a mirror in front of it. DW and I watch one lady who we discovered was a part-time zumba instructor practicing her routines in the evening. Enter a group of female crew members/dancers and give the lady the stare-down/group of mean girl treatment. (This provides a glimpse into accountability, training, standards of behaviors expected by crew members, ships lack of leadership by officer corp). What the heck!!! The crew has their own gym on board and rehearsal times. A paying passenger should not have to deal with stare down/group intimidation by crew members. Guys Pig and Anchor is a joke. The worst food at lunch. Famous biscuits were another more that lightly buttered hot dog buns. (Again, providing a glimpse into maintaining standards of quality). On the second leg we finally realized that Carnival had made a huge ship...pack more state rooms in it and **DID NOT** add any more commom area passenger flow space. The result is the common floors on the 4th and 5th decks are always overly crowded. In the end, this B2B trip had DW and I in agreement that Carnival has journeyed to the floor of our tolerance for lack of quality. We will **NOT** be returning to another CCL cruise ship. We work to hard for our vacation time and money for this substandard product. We DO NOT recommend this ship. Read Less

The cruise was very disappointing and left a lot to be desired. Port selection was an embarrassment. Food quality was very poor. Food selection was very limited. Entertainment was subpar. Boarding at the port was disorganized. I would never recommend this ship or particular cruise to anyone. Aside from Curaçao and Aruba the other ports would have been better not visited. The time in both aforementioned ports was not long enough and the ship could easily have stopped at another port rather than being at sea for two days straight. Not to mention passing right by several potential ports, Jamaica as an example. Aruba was extremely short and upon return to the ship the buffet closed a half hour after the curfew eliminating several passengers from being able to eat until 6pm very poor management. The midnight buffet was the same minuscule selection for the entire cruise which left the majority of passengers filing complaints. The Havana Club was a very nice perk until they decided to allow anyone to enter the club after 3pm everyday which brought in a load drunken crowd continuously. This cruise was so very poor on too many levels. Read Less

My family frequently travel to the hottest vacation spots. Our last destination, Disney cruise, ship fantasy, was one to remember. Our latest was carnival horizon and is one we need to quickly forget. Be warned, stay away. My son asked me if I received a free horizon vacation would I still go, and I quickly answered NO WAY. Staff here are overworked and are not well trained in service hospitality. Day 5 was the first day I got an hello or a good morning. Common areas are always dirty. It is very common to see wine glasses from last night stacked up and uncollected well into the next day. In cabin is less dirty, but mostly because we complained. Bar service is on caribean time, drinks take ten or more minutes to make. With an Unlimited drink package, Bar tenders make you feel guilty of doing something wrong when you order a drink with an extra shot, which was just to get to a normal undiluted drink. Overcrowded buffet style lunch and dinners have limited selection and food quality may be just below dog food. Ship activity is also not planned out according to quoted time slots noted on everyday event calendar. We waited thirty minutes for the karaoke person to arrive. This was the same issue with the work out trainer we paid money for the class we took, he was late by twenty minutes. Does no one care about our time? We have loud noises in our cabin from outside banging. Rooms 2409, 2411, 2415, 2417 all have the same loud noise issue every morning. Booking execursions is a do it yourself process. The person that can help you offers no expertise or advise on any options. Excursion person at the desk basically asks you to read your options and decide. Don't even know what is the point of having the excursion person there. Dirty dishes are left uncollected at dinner and lunch buffet areas. Bonsai specialty dinning experience was ruined from overly aggressive staff about booking for 20 people but only 18 showed up. They were looking to charge for everything and not accommodating for kids. We had to ask for plastic cups ten times before they realized kids with glass cups are not a good idea. The shows on the ship match our overall experience, poor. Vocals were out of tune and dancers were out of sync with each other. Early comedian show was not that funny either. Also waiting in line for ten minutes or more to get into shows and still not having enough seats for all of us to sit increased our frustration with the ship. Ship set up is all wrong. You have drunken adults mixed in with young children and many adults were too trashy for any kid to see and experience how bad of an adult world can be. Having twerk competition next to the kids slide is plain out insane. Apologies from management were frequent with emphasis of improving our experience and training the staff to do better, but the apologies kept coming for all different things and different sections. Nothing got better, we just stopped complaining. Read Less

You need to wait 5 minutes to get an extra shot and by the way. The extra shot is for the drink to tasted normal and undiluted. Kids club. Unaccomdating. My kids never wanted to be in there. I am an experienced cruiser. I have taken RCCL, Norwegian, and Princess. I am Gold with Carnival. This would be my 6th Cruise with Carnival. We are a group of 30-celebrating a rare feat these days-my parents 50th wedding anniversary. We were all excited to be boarding the brand new Horizon. We did have hesitation due in part to the negative reviews we have read but we all went with an open mind and a discerning mind. I truly am disappointed in Carnival for the ship's layout, the lack of attention to the customer's needs, the poor design of the ship, and the relatively high cost to sail a very short and less detailed itinerary. Yes, I understand that I chose this ship and it only affirms my belief that I was going to have the "vacation of a lifetime" as it is so proudly promised and advertised by the Carnival Corporation. Before I get into specifics, let me just reiterate why Carnival should be ashamed of themselves. A less than appetizing Lido Buffet, very small and not practical pools, a very small Serenity area with no pool, lack of security presence, lack of safety precautions, no attention to the size of a lounge or showroom for a ship holding more than 5,000 passengers and a debarkation system which was hard to comprehend. Now I will go into more detail-listing the pro's of the ship first because there were positives. PROS- -The embark was quite possibly the best I have ever experienced on a cruise. We arrived to the port short of 1230 pm with a 130 embark and were on ship at 1pm-less than 30 minute process. Congrats to that staff. -My balcony cabin on the 10th deck was both roomy, clean, and with enough storage space to fit us comfortably. -The Dining Service in Reflections was outstanding. We were a group of nearly 30 people-children, seniors , and adults. We ordered multiple entrees and appetizers every evening and never felt a wait for any item. Jose and Head Waiter Roger made our vacation bearable. -The Specialty Restaurants-Italian and Steakhouse were worth the extra cost. We also did the Chefs Table and found that experience completely awesome I am disappointed in that Carnival in my opinion, fails to design a ship that takes into consideration the paying customer's needs. For example- lack of restrooms close by to the dining venues, the casino venue and lounge venue. Restrooms that were consistently dirty and without soap or paper towel. Restrooms that did not include a baby changing station. Shame on Carnival. This does not constitute the "perfect vacation" or "ultimate vacation experience" that I was promised. I am disappointed in that Carnival would short-staff a brand new ship-charging vacationers thousands of hard earned dollars to wait in line for overpriced fried seafood (Seafood Shack), overpriced Coffee, overpriced Pictures that were being pushed every evening and with every jam packed walk down an "open " corridor. Shame on Carnival. This does not constitute the "perfect vacation" or the "ultimate vacation experience" that I was promised. I am disappointed in that Carnival would not best protect its paying customers with a both responsive and visible security force. This ship was jammed with unruly teenage mobs (both girls and boys) who could be seen defecating in the hallways and pools. They were also free to roam the decks at any time of the day or night holding a booming stereo and smoking weed freely in front of other family's. This made for both an unpleasant and unsafe cruising experience. There was no quiet time or lock down time for these passengers either. They would be up and about or causing havoc in their cabins well into the early morning hours disturbing all around them. Shame on Carnival. This does not constitute the "perfect vacation" or the "ultimate vacation experience" that I was promised. I am disappointed in that Carnival would overcharge paying customers for simplicity's previously found. For example- 15.00 to open a bottle of wine that you are already over - charging 25% to purchase on board. Advertising a final bingo prize of 5000 and ultimately paying out just 615.00 that was split multiple ways? Room service items for 5.00 a pop? Shame on Carnival. Shame. This does not constitute the "perfect vacation" or the "ultimate vacation experience" that I was promised. I do realize that there is no control over another passenger's behavior or demeanor while on board but whatever happened to controlling yourself or showing respect to others? Cursing customers, threatening other cruisers or employees with their words or their demeanor. I felt like I was amongst wild tameless animals. I could never relax at the lounge for it was never comfortable -jam packed and no open seating. I did arrive nearly 15-20 minutes prior to a given showtime. I never spent time in a hot tub as they were always filled with kids or packed to the rim with fellow adults. We never went to the pools as they were too small to accomodate the packed ship. These are all design flaws. Shame on Carnival. This does not constitute the "perfect vacation" or the "ultimate vacation experience" that I was promised. Read Less

Absolute garbage. The worst cruise ever. If you plan to take your kids on this ship, please do not. somehow, smoking weed on the ship is legal and all over the place. The food is very normal or less than normal. Sushi place was ok. The steak house had good appetizers, But the steak itself was not impressive at all (slightly better than Denny's). Timing at ports are very short after the long time sailing. One of our shores destination ( Dominican Republic) was cancelled ( It is the best place out of the three) Carnival only refunded $50 a person but they charged $1100 even on 9 month old son. The ship is not worth a penny. Daycare for children under 2 is only available from 10pm - 1pm. I called "Carnival Guest Services" and the rep said that they will contact in one week, I waited a month and no one ever attempted to call, when I called back after a month, they saw the note in the system but they told me Sorry. As an avid cruiser, and having cruised Carnival (Glory) last year, I took a chance on another Carnival (Horizon) cruise this year. There were significant differences. On Carnival Horizon they impose a mandatory 15% tip on every drink you purchase, even when you are sitting right there at the bar in front of the bartender. They try to sneak a 15% tip at the candy store Cherry on Top when you are signing for electronic payment simply for ringing up your order. Everyday I ate breakfast and dinner at the Meridian Restaurant. The wait was long for someone to take your order. The person who took the order didn't bring it to you and the other person didn't know who got what. Mistakes happened daily. The food was cold. For dinner, the dinner rolls were given to us cold as well. We ordered a sangria for dinner and it was the worst we'd ever tasted and we requested a different drink. It was a huge production for a substitution to be given, as the waiter insisted that we would have to pay twice for the "additional drinks". On the lido deck they constantly "ran out of fruit" and there were long lines waiting for more pineapple, honeydew, canteloupe and watermelon to be dished out. Gelato was served daily from 12 to 2:30, which was shut down promptly at 2:30, even when people were still on line and more gelato was left. Very rude. The worst part was the steward barged in to the room whenever she wanted, as she was knocking. This happened AFTER the room had been cleaned. She would just "check on us" or come to give us a message by opening the door, almost catching us in a 'compromising' situation twice. Even on our last day, she called at 6AM to give us a "wake up call" (that was not asked for) and opened the door at 7:15 to be sure "we were up". We felt rushed to get out, even though we knew we had to be out of the rooms by 8:30. The excursion that was originally prepaid for Grand Turk was canceled due to the fact that the company let their insurance policy lapse (their words). I chose another excursion that was offered by Carnival (Coast to Coast Grand Turk Safari) which was more than our original excursion. The excursion was terrible. Although the tour guide provided knowledgeable information, the places we saw were hurricane damaged, some areas were filthy, and the first stop was to buy souvenirs by aggressive vendors for a half hour. The second stop was to a lighthouse that you had to pay $3 just to go up close to view. Another 1/2 hour. The final stop was okay - the beach- simply to look at before heading back to the ship. Not worth the $70. In Puerto Rico, the excursion to Windows Cave was fine - the drive there was dangerous. The driver swerved over the white line all throughout the drive and the vehicle couldn't accelerate uphill. Cars were beeping non stop and we all kept saying we wanted to get to our location safely. We didn't get to dock at our 3rd stop - Dominican Republic. The captain made a safety call, stating that he was unable to dock without possibly crashing. Everyone was devastated and $50 was given to everyone to spend on board. I reached out to share my disappointment of this trip and so many things that occured on board that I've never experience on any other cruise ship, including the Carnival Glory. I was verbally apologized to, yet no discount was offered. Wait - the promise of $99 room credit upon booking for another cruise......NOT!!!!! When I was asked to rate my excursion in Grand Turk and wrote an unfavorable review, I got an email that they refuse to post my review because it "wasn't what they were looking for". SMH. Never again. Read Less

Well they over pack the ship with 5000 people and the pool is so small and you never find a seat at the pool. The food was ok nothing to brag about. They are cheap with water in your room afer 4 bottles for 4 people they charge you for them. Mike the cruise director is excellent always happy. The shows are great nut the sky ride is closed half the time due to wind. The miniature golf and pool tables are a joke to windy balls blew around. The balcony doors are terrible they open like a door and slams so hard you wake up early if a kid is in your next room. So I say Carinaval Horizon is rated poor for my family. I must say the princes on drinks are high one round at the pool is $46. The Imax theater is $12.95 a movie pathetic Read Less

I booked this trip over a year ago and was extremely excited to be sailing on Canrival's newest ship. This was my 7th cruise and 3rd on Carnival. I was traveling with a large group of family and friends, some of which were skeptical to sail on Carnival. I convinced them that it would be a great experience because I had never had issues sailing on Carnival in the past. Boy was I wrong!!!!! I was extremely disappointed with SEVERAL aspects of this trip. However, I will start with the few PROs: Pros *Embarkation - was very efficient and quick. We arrived at the port within our appointment time and was on the ship within 15 minutes. Our staterooms were ready by the time we boarded and food was being served. *Decor/Design - the ship's decor is modern and welcoming. The design is ok. The pool area on the Lido deck is much smaller than on the Splendor and many of the speciality restaurants are small and can't accommodate many people. *Cabin - we had an aft balcony on the 9th deck. The beds were extremely comfortable (unfortunately, I didn't get much rest). Our cabin steward, Idewa, was amazing. He was extremely courteous, attentive and accommodated all of our requests. Cons: *Cabin - we paid extra money for the aft balcony at the back of the ship. Big mistake....for the extra money, we got a lot of extra noise and wasn't able to get a good night sleep not one night of the trip. The crew cleaned the Lido deck located above our room at the oddest times. The noise is so loud when they are moving the lounge chairs/tables and chairs around it awakens you from your sleep....it sounds like they are coming through the ceiling and they do it at the oddest times.....I had to call and make several complaints at 1am, 2am, 3am, 4am, 5am, 6am, etc..........I was so exhausted on most days, I had to nap during the afternoon or early evening. Each time I called to report the noise, a guest service rep would say that they've spoken to the supervisor and the noise should cease...that never happened. The noise occurred EVERY night and every morning on the ship. Secondly, for this to be a new ship, the mechanics are not designed well. When we would reach a port and the ship was docking.....not only was the noise extremely loud but the cabin would shake violently. It was disruptive and it was scary!!!! Lastly, the balcony doors slam extremely hard and loud. The noise from them slamming was continuous throughout the cruise. *Customer service - the service on the ship overall was POOR!!!!!! Our aft balcony provided us with access to the Havana area, however, whenever my children entered the area they were always told "this is a private area" despite the fact that they had on the access bands. Perhaps, the staff members weren't aware that African Americans could purchase cabins that included access to this part of the ship. If you had a question, no one seemed to be a able to provide an answer. If you asked 10 different people the same question, you got 10 different answers. We were a group of about 40...despite making dinner reservations 3 days in advance, no one in the Meridian dining room was able to get it correct and no one could seem to provide an answer as to who was in charge. We only planned to have dinner all together only ONE night to memorialize my grandmother's birthday. It was a nightmare!!! The staff didn't have the capacity, the common sense or the desire to accommodate us. Overall most of the staff members on the ship were not friendly, courteous or helpful. It didn't appear they were prepped well or have gotten used to serving the crowd capacity on a mega ship. Carnival, you must do better in this area!!!!! *Entertainment - this is supposed to be a "FUN" ship. For an 8 day cruise, I felt the itinerary was very scarce and redundant. There is no signature “Broadway-quality” production. There were no live bands in the pool area, unlike on other cruises where they will often feature reggae, steel drum or calypso music so that you feel like you’re at an island resort. The Fun Team appeared only once in a while. We were at sea for a total of 5 days and there were only 2 deck parties. *Food - the food at the buffet was subpar at best! There was no option for turkey bacon or turkey sausage at breakfast, the food selections were very limited, and the taste made much of the food undesirable. Guys Burger, the pizza, food at the deli and burrito bar were great but there was ALWAYS a long line! The shrimp and crab legs at the Seafood Shack were very salty. We ate at the specialty italian restaurant one evening and the food was pretty good there. When we boarded the ship after Grand Turks, there were only 3 complimentary food places available (not the buffet) and the lines were extremely long. This was absolutely UNACCEPTABLE! *Drinks - the bartenders and drinks at the Alchemy bar were amazing. Every where else, there was much to be desired! Most of our group purchased the $400+ drink package and was extremely disappointed in not being able to receive a decent cocktail. This experience was daunting!! I will not sail with Carnival again! I was excited to travel from New York to Bermuda on this new ship but it was not an experience that I would recommend. I would not recommend traveling with Carnival or taking this particular ship. If you do, bring your patience, there will be a lot of waiting and subpar service. I was disappointed from the check in line. It took over an hour to get through the check in (maybe if you get there earlier you will wait less. Idk). After the check-in, the trip was an endless experience of waiting for elevators, a seat at breakfast in the Lido Marketplace, a lounge chair at the pool side movie, a cabana in the adult-only resort, everything! It was just lots of people and slow service (waiting 20 minutes to order a drink at the bar). Additionally, the service was bad and awkward. We did dine on your own time dining, the dining room was on one floor but the reservation spot was two floors up and around a corner (did I mention the slow elevators). The app did help with this but we used the app several days and we would get to the dining room (on-time) and they had reassigned our table, tried to sit us at tables that were already seated, and we waited 10 or more minutes once seated for service. One night, they told that they just sat two large parties and would have to wait a while for bread and water. The hostess was rude, unapologetic, and often acted distracted. Once seated, we waited a long time and the food was not good. We tried almost all the restaurants, Guys Burger Joint was by far the best (and free). The Seafood spot had a long line and did not have all the items on the menu. The pizza was also very good (20+ minute wait in the line). We stayed in the Family Harbor area, the lounge was also packed always (no seats, plates, silverware available). The scheduled food service in that lounge was inconsistent. One day, they did not bother to put food in the lounge at all. We ordered room service and the wait time was incredible 1.5 hours once and 45 minutes the other time (Our 2 year old was on a PBJ binge and without being able to access the family lounge -- room service became the only other place). We had massages in the spa. We waited 30 minutes past our appointment time to be seen (paid over $300) but later that day they gave us a $50 gift card that we could not use on the previous service. So, I recommend waiting until the end of the cruise to book any spa services in case they give any discounts later in the cruise. Finally, we pre-paid for the PixelMax before sailing and I have a $644 charge for pictures that I need to call and dispute. Not the vacation that I imagined. Two things worked well, Camp Ocean and our room stewart was good. Read Less

Horrible cruise and ship!!! Our room on deck 1 had a fishy smell, and our intercom in our room did not work so when the cruise host came on to give the cruisers daily info we could hear any of it. The high tech elevators leave you waiting for 10 to 15 minutes on most occasions. Don’t even think about getting a taco, burrito, or taco bowl unless you have an hour to wait in line. Think you want a pizza well carnival had one employee forming dough, making the pizzas, baking the pizzas and waiting on cruisers, so the wait for pizza is at least 45 minutes. On the lido deck in the buffet area it is like an ice skating rink walking. Peoples feet sliding out from under them. Almost slipped and fell many times. Reported to staff and was told they were aware of it. At breakfast water was dripping from the ceiling in the seating area in the buffet and had to move tables twice and seen many other families moving there seats as well. Was told it was condensation!!! And for the wow factor of a new cruise ship the atrium (lobby) area looked unfinished with white plastic looking stone walls. Not impressed at all and will think twice before cruising with Carnival again!!!! Read Less

I booked this cruise for my son's high school graduation present. We went on the Magic a few years back and had such a wonderful experience. We could not wait to get back on Carnival. However, unfortunately Carnival Horizon was a total disappointment. First, being a new ship, you would think that Carnival would have sought out the best of the best for this cruise. Most of the staff were not properly trained and unprepared to handle the magnitude of people on this ship. In the dining room, service was extremely slow. My family and I would wait over two hours to get our meals. If we needed or wanted anything, we always had to seek out a waiter. After the second time eating in the dining room, my family and I gave up and chose not to eat there the rest of the week. Second, the food was awful and bland. The buffet had the same menu each day, no variety. The only suitable food was Guy's Burger Joint, but who wants to eat a cheeseburger everyday. Thirdly, our itinerary changed, omitting Grand Turk, due to a medical emergency on board. I am pleased that Carnival made an effort to get this individual to land. However, I am disappointed that Carnival did not offer any compensation back to all cruisers on board. I ended up spending more money out of pocket due to this change. My family and I were planning on having a beach day at the port in Grand Turk, however, since we did not get to go to Grand Turk, I had to book an excursion in Puerto Rico for my beach day. In addition, my main reason for booking this cruise was to visit Grand Turk. They did give a 20% off a future cruise, which I will not be using. Forth, ship was way too overcrowded. Lines everywhere and long wait times to do anything on board. Average wait for Pizza or sandwich was 30-45 minutes. Fifth, walls are very thin. We had a screaming toddler next to us that kept us up most of the night. We went to customer care and they offered a room on a different floor that could accommodate two out of the three of us. Staff said one person could stay in the room. Carnival should leave a block of rooms on each cruise to better accommodate for unforeseen circumstances. Lastly, entertainment was lacking. Not many good options to keep families entertained. If you are looking for a great and fun vacation, do not choose this ship! Look elsewhere! Read Less

I Just returned from my first and maybe my last Carnival cruise . I was on the Horizon 8 day to Puerto Rico , Grand Turk, and Dominican Republic . Let me start with a positive note getting on the ship was great from there everything got worse. I had made reservations with the Steak House online before going and also purchased beer, water and excursions. When I got on board I stopped at the steak house to confirm my reservation only to be told I didn't have one. I let it go thinking maybe there was some glitch. Then I went to my room and found my water with a note but no beer so I called Guest services the phone rang for 15 minutes before someone answered and told me I had never purchased beer . I explained that I had and she asked if I was able to prove it and thank God I had the confirmation. I was then told they would have to do an email inquiry. I waited 5 hours before walking to Guest Services to only be told I hadn't purchased it so I showed her my confirmation and about an hour later I got it. Next, I had received 3 of my 4 bags my husband and I bought with us. I kept asking were they bringing more bags and was told yes , yes but after 5 hours waiting I started to worry so I started walking to guest services to see if they had it when much to my surprise a man was bringing my bag into the hall from his room . He told me the staff had put it in his room . I was very upset since it had my personal items in it . My husband and I purchased bar cash so we went on the top deck and ordered 2 drinks , later on that night I looked at my account and found they had charged me for the peoples drinks behind me as well as mine . I had to go back to Guest Services to get them to remove the charges. I played in the casino quite a bit so I was able to get a drink card pretty quickly . I only ordered 1 drink while in the casino and was made to feel like I was a thief. Gentleman took my order then came back and realized I should not have not been charged so he went to get it taken off. The casino host then came over and picked up my card and asked me if this was my card and if I had taken it from someone . I was floored , I hardly ever drink so I would not have stolen anything like that . Needless to say I didn't drink there anymore . She asked me for my name and said spell your last name . It was very embarrassing . My husband and I are very early risers so I requested room service every morning 5 to 7 am . We also go to bed by 9 pm so we made sure the tag was on the door by 9 . One morning I am waiting and waiting for my coffee to come so I finally opened the door and it was still there no one picked it up. One evening it too me 2 hours to get my food . No one walks around and asks if you want a drink or they can help you . I asked the person that cleaned my room if he could get me a opener for the beer I had bought he told me no I had to call room service, so I did and when she came she wanted to open 1 bottle at a time she wouldn't leave the opener. How can you sell beer with nothing to open it . Now let me tell you about my bar cash. Again, I only purchased 200 because I know I am not a big drinker but I like to have 1 or 2 fruity drinks a day . Well , every few days my debit card linked to my room would have to be re- swiped and they would put a hold on my bar cash . I had no idea until I would go to order and drink and then be humiliated in front of all the other guest. I had to go to Guest services several times regarding this. I was so fed up I asked the desk person to refund my bar cash I was told that only you can do that. I was actually in tears I felt so un appreciated I don't think I will ever go back . The food was cold most of the time . I ate brunch twice , once it was good and one time my husband ordered a bloody maria and they never brought it . I feel the ship is not staffed well and could use some serious customer service lessons . This brand new ship has a horrible smell too !! Smelled like dirty diapers. I will not said Carnival ever again. I also called them and sent a copy of this letter and not one phone call or email did I receive . Read Less
