We loved this ship! Was the largest we have sailed. Nice layout, never felt crowded, clean pretty decor. Staff was great, room stewards attentive, wait staff in MDR were excellent! Ate at steakhouse twice and Chefs table, all were great! Dive in movies fun. MDR was also great for dinner, breakfast, and brunch. Don’t remember any shows. Loved sea day tea too. Had an ocean suite on this cruise. Great room, spacious and comfy. Would sail on this ship again, was my fave of Carnival ships so far. My husband missed the grand atrium feel on older ships. Played in th water park, enjoyed playing scrabble in the library. Cruise director Mike was great fun! When getting on and off at ports we never felt crowded, we never seemed to stand in long lines when boarding. This was a December cruise and they had nice Christmas decorations up, very festive. We booked this cruise for the sky ride feature since no other boat has it as of yet,but seen reviews right after it set sail that the sky ride was down for repair, was hoping after 4 months that they would get it fixed but No still not working .Then was very disappointed in the buffet all week seemed like same food every day and only 3 meats choices and 6 sides literally 10 items on bar.Everyone on ship was complaining about the buffet. The entertainment was ok and they did have a vast amount of scheduled activities. The wait staff was great and friendly.Just wish they would take sky ride off the advertisement so no one else feels deceived .Also a mention about the fitness center, I have seen better gyms in hotels,This fitness center was very small and little to no equipment. To sum it up I feel 3 stars is a fair rating. Wow! Embarkation in Miami was a breeze. Way better than we have ever experienced. The line for the Magic almost reached our ship. That was nuts! Upon arrival our room was clean and ready. The hall ways were super clean and smelling good. The atrium is not 1 color anymore, various colors and shapes. Very bright. They have specialty restaurants such as sushi, BBQ, seafood and a Havana area that reminds you of Cuba. So much of variety when it comes to food and different options when it comes down to entertainment and music. Live Latin band, piano players, acoustic singers, etc. This ship is beautiful! So clean and big. Love the options of the rooms and the décor is very nice. There are various themes such as Harbor, Havana and Spa. Staff is always great, but I feel like the staff at the Guy's Pig Anchor didn't want to be there. The staff serving the buffet food. The guy there had a sour face and was not friendly at all. The room stewards were awesome, they never forget a face or name. The bar are great and I feel the ship is so big you don't always bump into the same people more than once Definitely an eye catcher. My party had a great time! I think the only 2 real complaints we had about the boat was about the elevators and the smoky casino. The elevators are suppose to be "smart" elevators. They are only as smart as the people using them or shown how to use them. There is no real explanation on how to use them. We learned by others who showed us that you need to press the floor number you're going to as many times as there are people in your party. This would prevent the elevator from stopping on other floors if it knew that it was full to capacity. Not everyone knew this or how to do this, so the "smart" elevators are essentially dumb. Also, we were on the 14th floor, so only 2 of the elevators went to that floor. Often our elevators were locked due to crew using them for luggage or other reasons. There were times we would have to wait 20 minutes or more for an elevator. Often relenting to walking up or down several flights of stairs pending on where we wanted to go. Not that we couldn't use the exercise, but it was inconvenient at times when carrying packages, etc The casino wreaked badly of stale cigarettes. You had to walk through the casino to get to some of the places or go the long way around. They said they have a filtration system to eliminate the smoke. If they do, they need a new one or a better one. Just quickly walking through, our clothes smelled so badly and it was really hard to breathe in the area. Other than these two things, we had a great time. Plenty to do and be entertained. The crew that took care of our stateroom was fabulous. Always courteous and willing, even remembered our names. That's quite a task when every week you get new people to care for. We zip lined in Jamaica. Fabulous! Beach day in Grand Cayman! Cozumel Port itself was nice. Unless you're going to an excursion I wouldn't recommend leaving the shopping area of the port. We accidentally did without realizing. Went into a store where they tried to separate us and then shut the door behind us. Tried pressuring us into buying certain things we didn't care to buy. Lesson learned, know the boundaries. All in all a good time had by our family! Read Less

The first thing you should know is this ship is bigger....and loaded with rooms. I was expecting a "grander" feel because of it's size, but it's just more rooms. More Cabins, and more little tuck away spots for bars that feel like hometown bars, and Dining with many options that made you feel like you were choosing to go "out" for sushi, or "out" for bar-b-q. I felt like choosing a cabin on a higher deck was a mistake, there was a lot more movement at the front upper of the boat. It also made our balcony wet most of the time. This was from the ship breaking waves.....and dropping....and yes it was a bit noisy. I'd forgo the extra money on the Spa Suite and stick with something in the middle section, like Deck 10 thru Deck 7 if you have any type of motion sensitivity. Movie theater was a nice addition. We loved JiJi Restraunt, and the hostess made us feel like family.....the best. The food is different and this is an opportunity to try something different and delicious...we cancelled our 2nd Steakhouse Reservation and booked JiJi a 2nd time. Don't miss the opportunity to try dining experiences for lunch. JiJi's serves as The Wok during the day, and it's great, and no extra charge. Shows, Shows, Shows were AMAZING! You must see it to believe it! The shows are modern, contemporary and have abandoned the old Vegas Style show....these shows were amazing. If you can't make yourself go.....ok, just make yourself go. DO NOT MISS THE ELECTRIC VIOLIN SHOW....from pre-show to post-show. Biggest tip if you want to try any restaurant in the evening, get a reservation before setting sail....or plan on going at off times. This was one of the best VIFP gatherings we have ever been to..it was a fun party. Big Ship, lots of people, be patient. Read Less

Either Carnival was totally on point for the Thanksgiving week or all of those complainers are people that would cry about anything. This cruise was fantastic. Our family cruises for Thanksgiving and the last couple of times have been on the Oasis Royal class boats so this was our first time back to Carnival after several years and we selected it based on the ports it went to. Embarkation – we got an email days prior saying that they are expecting a delay in the debarkation so arrive an hour later than your scheduled time. We flew in that morning and did you know there was a check in at the airport?? USE IT! We did that and they did not say there was a delay so we went on to the port. There are two entrances to the ship – one for airport check in and one for regular check in. We walked right on through with no stopping. Highly recommend it! Security didn’t go through our bags, didn’t check to see our wine bottle was intact, and didn’t check to see that it was really pop cans in the bag. They did have the hallway doors to the rooms closed so you couldn’t access that until 1:30 which was fine. Food – It’s funny we did a carnival one year that was great food, and then the next year it wasn’t. The next was Royal Caribbean and amazing food and then the next year RC was bad. This year on the Horizon we were completely surprised at how good everything was. The food options were plentiful and because I wanted to try everything once I didn’t get to go back and try anything twice! I opted for the tacos at Blue Iguana for the first day and they were great with the salsa bar and accoutrements you could add to it. My family went to the Lido and complained at the limited options there. I had read Carnival was doing that and spreading the food options out across the boat. I never ate at the buffet other than for breakfast with the other amazing options out there. The Guys Hamburgers were great as well and even with lines it moved fast as they were cooking hamburgers constantly. You could add any additions, sautéed onions, mushrooms, sauces etc. The Italian place on 11 was free for sea days as well as the Mongolian Wok. You have an order sheet and check what you want. GREAT food. The BBQ was free on sea as well as lunch and the beef tips and pulled port were very tasty. For breakfast you had breakfast tacos or burritos from the Iguana – full of flavor. I did eat the lido here but it was very limited to straight breakfast foods. Eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, French toast, made to order omelets always had a line and cereals, toasts etc. Other cruise lines have included food for international passengers so thought that was unusual. Our dining room service was outstanding; food was always great, always hot. And quicker than on past cruises. We had the old fashion 6:00 dining and we just walked in to our table and our waiter Inyoman got to know us. Super friendly, attentive and great. I’m telling you we had no complaints in this section! We did do the Steakhouse on the first night – the special is a free bottle of wine with dinner on the first night. Everything there was outstanding. Bars – service was great at the bars and we found each bar had different menus. Although you could get standard drinks at any of them. The piano bar, the Alchemy and the pig and anchor had some of the coolest and strongest drinks. Most times there was only a small wait. The bar on the 5th floor Ocean plaza was always empty and you could walk right up and get something there. The serenity bar was usually pretty empty as well. The three pool bars were the busiest but they really do a great job at getting you served. We had the cheers package and you could get 1 alcohol drink and one non like a cocktail and a bottle of water but you couldn’t get two nons like a soda and water which was silly. You had to wait 5 minutes in between ordering. Entertainment – if I had to downgrade them at all it would have been here a little bit. The nightly shows have some great people singing and dancing but every night the show was pretty much the same – just singing and dancing. There wasn’t any variety other than the theme of their outfits. On Royal we had a cirque like show, a water show with divers, an ice-capade show and a full on Broadway production. People complained about the Liquid Lounge and the limited seating and viewing. They do have some poles in there but we didn’t ever have a problem seeing from our choices. We always sat downstairs. One night they had a “magic variety” show and that guy was almost funnier than the comedians! The live music on the boat was a big plus. I loved the electric violins. They played around dinner time in the atrium area so we could catch them coming to and from our dining. On Friday night they were in the nightly show and they were the hit (Celestial Strings). The comedians were pretty good – the PG show at 5:30 was plenty open but the night over 18 shows were packed – get in line early. Some of them were funny and some were just filled with F-bombs. Some of the PG version of the same artist were better than their adult version with cuss words. I have heard the Quest is the fun game but it’s late at 11:30 and after sun and drinks and a full day I couldn’t stay up that late so missed it. The piano bar at 10:00 with the sing along songs were fun. She is crazy talented with being able to sing all of those songs, talk and play and witty as well. Don’t be a Kanga-BOO! When you walk out of her show.  They had dance parties on the lido deck which were a big hit with the gangs of kids and the adults alike. Some nights they had dive in movies (rental box movies – not first run) and could lay on a lounge chair with a blanket and popcorn - very cool! We didn’t check out the pay for IMAX movies. You could stay as busy as you wanted to on this boat . The pools – very small. Very crowded. The main center pool was crazy loud and party atmosphere. The back area had a small pool with two hot tubs. By the end of the 8 days the pool was very cloudy and really kind of gross looking. I like how there were stools and places to sit around the pool and in the pool and keep your feet in it. Hot tubs were always butts to nuts – I didn’t try. We didn’t really go into the Havana area other than one night for drinks and to hear the music and see the back end. We thought about getting those rooms but I didn’t like not having my balcony private and right up to the window to see the ocean. Ship – it was beautiful. Well laid out – A LOT of areas to sit and relax in comfortable areas. The 5th floor had great seating with table/chairs or living room arrangements all around the boat. The clamshells in the serenity area were the best for napping in. You could walk out on the front of the boat on most decks and that is a neat view. (just walk down the cabin hallways to the doors at the front) So many areas to get away from the crowds and enjoy the breeze. Gone are the glitzy gaudy colors and splashes. Very modern and pretty. The casino is pretty small and definitely horribly smoky. We love to gamble and it ran us out of there many times. Seemed like the slots were flowing pretty good and we all did great at the black jack table. Had it not been gross in there we might have stayed and gave the winnings back. ha! I LOVED their hand washing stations in the Buffet area – they were like mini spas. Unfortunately I didn’t see many people using them. You gotta embrace the slow herd mentality. People just moseying along and stopping randomly. (this is hard for me). Oh, and people, have some class and clean up after yourself. We saw a chocolate ice cream cone on the carpet in the hallway. Seriously? The elevators - this was a big topic. Nowhere does it say click how many people are going to what floor. I assumed you would select that floor 7 times and then it told you which elevator to go to each time you selected the floor. I take the stairs every time and would beat my family every time - even when I had to go up 7 flights. They were slow. But I like the concept. People just don't get it though and the elevator thinks it's picking up 1 person and 6 get on. The big sky bike was shut down our entire week as well. That’s pretty crappy as it’s a big attraction for them and seems like it’s been broke more times! We did do the ropes course and that was a pretty cool design. There was a basketball court and on this ship my 14 year old could use it. Past cruises it’s been monopolized by adults. Putt putt, corn hole, ping pong, foos ball, pool tables all out in this area – great family hang area. Debarkation – we walked off the boat with our bags for an early flight. Very Easy and no lines. It was a wonderful cruise for my family of 7 (from ages 75 -14) and we all had a great time. No major complaints. I can’t imagine how all those negative reviews of this boat could happen. Read Less

Carnival Horizon 11-17-2018 8 day-Southern Caribbean out of Miami, FL. Ultra-Premiere Casino Cruise. Room 11219, Interior Spa Stateroom, 4S Overall Rating of The Cruise 9 out of 10. Embarkation: It was a good surprise to arrive at 11:15 AM and be onboard by 11:45 AM carrying our boarding pass. Embarkation 5 of 5 State Room 11219, Interior Spa Stateroom: Steward Eko had the room ready when we boarded. I highly recommend Eko and his team. This cabin is located 1 deck below the Spa. 1st order of business was to take a tour of the spa and amenities we received for having our fist spa room. Access to the Thalassotherapy pool, hot beds, sauna, steam room and other amenities was easy with our room key. The robe in our room was lots more comfortable than the ones you get in other rooms. Soaps, shampoo were definitely an upgrade. Access to the Spa area was easy either forward to the stairs or just use the main elevators. The Thalassotherapy pool was almost useless, shallow, seats shape was wrong and difficult to get in and out. The rest of the Spa amenities was very good and ready for use. Assigned Seating Reflection Lower, 6:00 PM, table 162. Team Head Waiter Paul Rodrigues, Team Waiter Onur Gvres and AssistantTeam Waiter Komang Gede, did their best to make the dining experience as pleasurable as they could. DW and I both noticed changes to the menu and I think it is better than previous cruises. Love the décor of the Dining room with the separation walls making it more intimate dining experience. On one occasion I ordered a stake from the steak house. For some reason they were very late bring our meal, but when it did arrive it was so tough that the steak knife would not cut it. Not acceptable! in fact I had them return it and start again. Now we are really late, DW was thru eating and most of the others in the dining area had already left before I received my second steak. Spoke to Matri d’ and let him know my dissatisfaction. Do not blame the food service staff but the Steak House needs to work on quality and timing. Casino: Can’t explain how well Carlos and Karol along with the rest of the team did on this Ultra Primer Casino Cruise. The games, prizes and staff interaction were nothing but 1st class. For some reason there is always one Bar Waiter who stands out and this cruise was no exception. Yoki was always at work, always calling us by name and always happy “5 star”. Why “NO” nonsmoking machines in the casino? Cruise Director: Mike Pack, lived up to everything I have heard. This was one of the best sail-away parties. When it come to a harry chest contest Mike made me laugh nonstop for the entire time. Will rate it “the best” I have ever witnessed. Mike took the time and spoke with DW and I numerous occasions while on this 8-day cruise. Misc. Cruise Particulars: Elevators on the Horizon are new but I liked them. When we arrived, some people would just jump in to find that did not know where it would stop and no way to select a floor. After the second day everyone seemed to understand how it worked and I believe it went smother and faster than elevators on other ships. The Pig and Anchor brewery is fantastic. Laundry is a great perk of being Diamond or Platinum and those who work below deck to support that effort deserve a pat on the back. “Thanks, Sholihin, and I Nengah Budasa”. Carnival needs to work on location of the hand sanitizers. Serenity spa water cold and pumps not working. Skybike was not functioning the entire cruise. Read Less

This is yet another Thanksgiving Cruise we've taken and it's nice to see how the crew will decorate for the holiday. We were 2 adults and two children under 10 in an inside cabin. We traveled with family in a balcony cabin. I'm probably used to inside cabins but aside from the balcony, the usable interior space found in the balcony seemed quite comparable. We flew in the night before and stayed at a local FLL hotel before taking our pre-arranged shuttle to PortMiami. We received an email from Carnival saying that boarding would be delayed by an hour and not to arrive until then. I did switch out my shuttle reservation for the later time but they called that morning saying there were a lot of delays from others and that if we wanted to leave a half hour earlier than the new time I chose, we could. We took them up on it since they were saying it could further delay if we waited. We got to the port just after the time that was originally selected on the Carnival.com site during online check in. Check in was a breeze and so was security. We sat around waiting for our number to be called for about 15 minutes and were finally onboard just after 12pm. We signed up for communication package through the Carnival Hub App for $5 pp. On iPhone, you need to keep it open in the background in order to receive the text message through the app. A battery drain for those that use iPhone. We had a great steward Mauricio. He was able to sneak in and out of the room to tidy up during some short stints out of the cabin. I found it odd that the towel animals were done during the morning cabin tidy rather than the turn down service. The Your Time Dining option was really poorly run. Someone from your party will need to go to Deck 5 JavaBlue Cafe in order to let them know you were ready for dinner and then go down to deck 3 to be seated. No one mentioned that you can do it in the app until after we switched to a 5:30pm dining time. That's all we really wanted to begin with. We were then lucky enough to be waited on my Olimpiu from Romania. The nicest guy you will meet and full of great stories and experiences. His whole Team was quite helpful and had enough attentiveness to feel like you weren't neglected or waiting too long for anything. Even repeat entrees or replacement entrees were brought up quickly. Food tasted great and at the right temperature. I wish they had more Indian food to offer. There was one vegetarian option that stayed all week in the MDR but absolutely NOTHING in the buffet at all. Generally, lunch in the Lido buffet was the disappointment. There was one section of the buffet open and in each of the four corners was the same 7 or 8 items. On other lines I've sailed, the lunch buffet would have a number of different cuisines and variety for each. The alternative was to eat at the pasta bar, Mongolian wok, Guy's burger, Pig and Anchor. I know, I know... the horror of eating at those places. But it would be nice not to have to wait for a table at the first two, or in a line for the last two. Pig & Anchor didn't disappoint on sea day lunches. A little fatty with the brisket but so tasty. Guy's burgers was/is my favorite and I was looking forward to them as soon as I booked the cruise. Pizza was great!! Enough said. Desserts could have been better. Ice cream was plentiful so that filled the gap. Guest Services would take folks standing in the Platinum Diamond line first but when they realized the people were not either status, or, they were standing beside a friend that was that status, they continued to serve them. Another cruise where the Sky Ride wasn't working. Apparently there was a short period of time where there were two workers in there looking at the bikes. Though it still wasn't fixed for our sailing. Apparently, it was probably a better use of your time to just go to the gym rather than wait in line for the Sky Ride. They did have Sky Fitness for some basic elliptical, hip, walker, pull ups, abs and triceps exercises. I thought it was better than even going to the gym since when can you say you were working out on the deck sailing on the seas. My kids who were in the penguin and sting ray groups seemed to have enjoyed themselves the 3 or 4 times they did go to Camp Ocean. I can't comment much beyond that. Ports of call in order: Grand Turk, La Romana, Curacao, Aruba. We did not take any ship sponsored excursions. The first two were new for us and the last two were return trips from a cruise 17 years earlier. I go into these ports oblivious to what to expect. Grand Turk was great. We are not beach people but still stayed on the island for 2-3 hours and had fun swimming by the beach as well as in the large, expansive pool in the back. La Romana was more of a walk around and back to the ship. We took an open air bus ride around Curacao for $20/adult. We got into Curacao after 1:30pm and by the time the tour dropped folks off at the beach, it was closer to dusk. We went back to town and walked along the Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge at night and there were nice lights to look at as well as a tall Christmas tree at the other end as well. We took a similar tour as Curacao in Aruba but in an AC van. Great driver and tour of the area. Apparently Eagle beach is the place to go for all you beach lovers. Entertainment times were odd. There were many shows that only ran once an evening. So if you missed it, that was it. No 7:30pm or 9:30pm showings. Comedy in the Limelight was great. We had two comics leave mid cruise and replaced with two others which weren't as great. Disembarkation We had an early flight out of MIA. 11am. So we did the Express Disembarkation program they offered. This has been far and away the most efficient and well run disembark I have ever had in 20 cruises. We were told to meet in Liquid Lounge by 7am. By the time we were there a few minutes after 7, they were already calling decks to leave at the starboard side entrance to disembark the ship. They have a Global Entry line in the terminal but if you're off that early, it seemed that the regular line was SLIGHTLY quicker since there were more officers vs the 1 Global Entry officer. This line works for those that carry Nexus as well. Random observations The ship seemed "older" than it really was. There were some stalls in the restrooms that you would need to pull extremely hard in order to close. Then you feel like you can't get out afterwards. This is the men's room near the Blue Iguana. There was no push to sanitize your hands before entering the buffet or MDRs. I like the fact that they're not announcing that bingo is about to start each and every day. Read Less

The food and entertainment were wonderful. Lots of activities and variety if music around the ship. Ocean bar was always hopping and the Havana area opened up to the public after 7 pm so you can use pools there. The only downsides are buffet area was crowded, all inside buffet had same food and sky ride was down all week for repairs. Dining room service was great, food wouldn't always come out hot like baked potatoes and soup. Someone at our table kept sending warm food back, by the last night food was very hot. Gigi and the Italian restaurant were free at lunch but if you got there after noon it would be a 30-40 min wait. We did water slides and sky walk, both were fun and short lines. Plenty of chairs on lido but on sea days in Serenity it was packed and we had over 1,000 kids so we thought we would find seats. But love the clam shell beds. Deck 5 outside deck was really open with plenty of seating and bars and food. Its a beautiful ship. Read Less

Our family have done more that 10 cruises and this one is the WORST one. i have never gave a one star to any kind of review before but i have to do this time. We travel with 3 title kids end one infant (that we payed full price for) and had a horrible experience. there is was no pool that one year old can go to. there is was no day care for kids under 2 year old provided, there was no play place that infant can go or food he can it but we had to pay Full price for him. i feel that i got robbed ! Theater! I can't see nothing if you not on the from raw. They rushed it when build it . And the food! No Vegetable , No any kind of healthy food. We all suffer.Same Buffet EVERY day for 8 days. Couldn't wait to go to the shore so we can eat. One positive think! Wait stuff was amazing ! I fell bad that company does not support all that hard work they do. No more Carnaval for us. .there is companies offer much more and better quality for same money. Read Less

We selected this cruise because it was new and also had a new attraction called sky rider-I think. For being a Thanksgiving cruise, food, activities and attractions were very bad. This company spends a lot of marketing and publicity in this new ship and its attractions that seems very appealing especially for a family with teeneagers like us. Well the first surprise when we arrived to this ship, was a letter in our stateroom indicating that the sky rider attraction was not going to be available at all during this holiday cruise. Shame on Carnival. This is a very bad and against to their marketing in this ship. We were so upset but it was a Holiday cruise. Next the food was awful. They had only junk food. In order to have decent food, we need it to eat in their specialty restaurants. The only thing that truly saved this trip were the ports. We cautious or at least ask if your cruise will have all amenities and good food that they offered to you before final payment and before departing. Read Less

If you have kids under 8 years old. This is the cruise for you. This is our first cruise with the kids (5, 3). They enjoyed the Dr. Seuss Waterpark a lot. Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast on the last sea day was a wonderful experience. The Seuss-a-palooza parade and storytime was one of the most memorable activities. The Hasbro game show was also a great hit! The fun squad were always smiling, upbeat and made things fun all the time. If you have picky eaters, there are plenty of "plain" kid friendly options. If you don't see what you are looking for just ask. I requested a plate of sliced raw carrots and cucumbers at dinner for the kids and our wait staff, Milosh, had it ready for us when we went for dinner. Kid's menu had lots of options: pizza, hot dog, hamburger, pasta, chicken nuggets and even filet mignon. These are usually paired with French fries. They had a large dessert option too: banana split, jello, brownie, ice cream and fruit. We didnt have issues using the main pool either since we usually go on port days around lunchtime. We would get off the ship and enjoy the beach for a few hours then get back on just in time for lunch by the pool. The kids would jump back into the pool after lunch for a swim again. Life jackets are available for use and you can exchange for fresh pool towels as needed. We would usually head back to the room for a quick shower and nap before dinner at 5:30pm. After dinner, we would go to the show or just walk around the Promenade. The Hasbro game show was lots of fun. Leilani (or LeiLei) was great at hosting. She is full of enthusiasm and greeted our group each time she saw us on the ship. The music productions were great too. Definitely not your cheesy shows. The promenade always had great musicians playing and singing after dinner. We also found the library a quite spot to play board games and hang out. Ocean Club for kids is a great option if your kids are willing to part with you. Sterling was very friendly, he showed us around and invited us back the last day for a take home prize. We also enjoyed going to the Dr. Seuss reading room to read the books there. It's a colorful inviting space for kids of all ages. The two things I did not like were some guests just had no class. This is not Carnival's fault and we dont have control who you end up sailing with. In the Lido buffet we were greeted by a large group being very rowdy. Using inappropriate language and creating a scene on multiple occasions. Many other guests could not hold their tongues and asked this group to stop as they are embarrassing themselves and bothering other guests. I chose to get up and move my family to a different spot and continue our lunch. Secondly, the spa and gym area were quite small. The spa and gym share a change room and shower facility. It only has ONE washroom and TWO showers. I dont think that was a well thought out layout for such a large ship. Also there were only a few public washrooms available. On my past sailings with other cruise lines. Every floor had pucluc restrooms horizon only had public restrooms on 3, 4, 5, 10 (by the pool) and 11. Staff were all great and super friendly. My kids were greeted every morning by Dusan at the Lido buffet. He made special heart straws and napkin parrots in a cup for my son. Milosh, our wait staff in the Meridian dining room had our hot water ready and colouring books laid out for the kids. Service was slow at times but we had a table of 10 with many others in our area. The staff were doing their best. We tried most of the eateries on the ship and my favorite was Farenheit 555 (worth the $). Guys burger and the soft tacos at Cucina were great too. Anytime pizzas and make your own pasta were great options too. I would recommend this ship for kids. Read Less

Embarkation in Miami is very chaotic in comparison to airports, yet we were on the lido in under 25 minutes from getting out of our cab. It would have been under 20 minutes had it not been for the many group pictures in front of us in line. We had done the online check in so that apparently really helped. We had a balcony spa cabin on Deck 11 forward. Which we used for morning coffee, checking in with the office and watching the fly fish! We used the Hub app extensively and the $5/user for the Chat was worth it if you want to avoid using facebook messenger or other apps. We didnt go to any stage shows purely because of logistics of not knowing the show schedule ahead of time but having booked specialty dining prior to boarding. This is where the Hub app falls very short. Since you can only use the app onboard, you can't really figure out what is when until then, andbthen theres so many options its overwhelming. We loved watching the movies by the pool. Skip the popcorn if you like butter on it, there wasn't any! As much as this is a huge ship with a lot of people there really was always quieter spaces and activities available. I recommend the loungers outside Library/Bonsai sushi on deck 5. Specialty dining do go to Fahrenheit 555 (We went twice), the chef table, but skip Teppaniyaki if you've seen it or a Japanese food fan, you'll likely be disappointed. Loved Georgetown grand cayman snorkeling excusion and doing 7-mile beach on our own. It's the most beautiful beach I've ever seen. We did a bundled package of snorkel-catamaran-dunns river falls- zipline and lunch at margaritaville. Which was well worth the money though zipline was just okay. We skipped Cozumel on principle. All in all we will cruise this ship and itinerary again. Read Less

We unfortunately took a B2B cruise on the Horizon. Look, we are not demanding passengers, but if we could have gotten off the ship on after the first leg and gotten out money for the second leg returned we would have left the ship...and we are at the Platinum Loyalty Level With Carnival. This experience was THAT BAD. The salad bar at the buffet was the worst. Minimal selections, and pre-made salads that were drowned in mayo or oil. Never seen anything like that on any other ship...seriously..it was a joke. The Sky-Cycle was down (AGAIN) for the entire second leg. Witnessed a crew member scolding passengers at the sky-cycle on the first leg. The passenger wasn't doing anything wrong other than asking questions in a polite manner. But this one female crew member just got testy/nasty and childlike with her responses. (This provides a glimpse into Crew member selection standards and behavior expectations.) We watched an officer scold another employee in front of other passengers at the elevators for nothing more than missing to mop a small section of the floor. I am talking a real dressing down that was embarrassing for the crew member and other passengers. (This provides a glimpse into ships officer corp selection, standards, training and leadership ability). The food in the main dining room that was brought to the table was wrong and/or incomplete at least three times (maybe four). (This provides a glimpse into the ships operation management ability). The spa staff was a joke. They could care less if a sale/appointment was made. No greetings of the day when passing through. The staff was actually more engaged in their phones, doing their own nails or makeup, or sitting reading a book. (This provides a glimpse into accountability, training and holding to standards of quality). Next comes the gym. In the evening from 4:30-8:00PM, seems like the entire crew descends on the passenger gym to use the equipment leaving very little for paying passengers to use. There is a small hard-floored area on the port side of the gym with a mirror in front of it. DW and I watch one lady who we discovered was a part-time zumba instructor practicing her routines in the evening. Enter a group of female crew members/dancers and give the lady the stare-down/group of mean girl treatment. (This provides a glimpse into accountability, training, standards of behaviors expected by crew members, ships lack of leadership by officer corp). What the heck!!! The crew has their own gym on board and rehearsal times. A paying passenger should not have to deal with stare down/group intimidation by crew members. Guys Pig and Anchor is a joke. The worst food at lunch. Famous biscuits were another more that lightly buttered hot dog buns. (Again, providing a glimpse into maintaining standards of quality). On the second leg we finally realized that Carnival had made a huge ship...pack more state rooms in it and **DID NOT** add any more commom area passenger flow space. The result is the common floors on the 4th and 5th decks are always overly crowded. In the end, this B2B trip had DW and I in agreement that Carnival has journeyed to the floor of our tolerance for lack of quality. We will **NOT** be returning to another CCL cruise ship. We work to hard for our vacation time and money for this substandard product. We DO NOT recommend this ship. Read Less

Very nice ship the only problem I had was I paid an upgrade for a spa room. The spa was tiny for this size of ship and the spa staff was not friendly nor helpful. Wish I had used my money elsewhere . The ship was new so everything still looked nice the dining staff and room stewards were awesome as always. And the cruise director was probably the most personable that I had seen in the last several cruises. Overall great vacation. Just the spa and fact no one cared about my concern put a bad taste in my mouth. Others complained about the casino being really small but I did not visit there but I felt their aggravation as I felt the same about the spa. I did like the new serving lines on this ship it definitely made things move faster . The guys burgers and burrito bars and deli was delicious and always had a line that moved very fast. I have always been loyal to carnival but I think it’s time to check out others due to the fact they did not want to address my concern over my spa issue. Read Less

When you first step on board, you realize almost immediately, this is not your father's Carnival! The ship is smart, modern, tastefully decorated. It still has a fun vibe, but loses a lot of the over the top in your face gaudiness that most people equate with Carnival Fun Ships. Although the ship holds over 4000 passengers, it never felt overly crowded. Carnival has upped their game in almost every aspect. And for 8 days had nearly nothing to complain about except for a utterly nasty rack of Baby Back Ribs in the Pig And Anchor, and an overly chatty tour guide in St. Kitts. The Fahrenheit 555 offered a sublime steak dinner that I will not soon forget. And the Cuban Bar and pool area offered an almost criminally underutilized area to relax and unwind after 7pm. The "smart" elevator system employed worked amazingly well. Unlike traditional elevators, you choose your floor in the elevator lobby and you are informed which elevator will take you to your desired floor. And while it is a little unnerving at first to enter an elevator with only "open and close" options, for the most part, the elevators load balanced rather well. The addition of live musicians in the playlist entertainment is welcome, even though some of the themes of the shows appeared intentionally "high brow". The comedy acts were fantastic, and we had 4 comics. They swapped out the comedians in St. Kitts. The only disappointment I experienced was a really poor rack of baby back ribs on the first night at Pig and Anchor. My son's pulled pork was really good, but the rib's were awful and terribly over-sauced. Also the railway tour in St. Kitts was overly long, lacked any real variety (how many old sugar plantations do you need to see?), and contained a tour guide that must have been paid by the word. Friendly yes, but by the time the tour ended, we just wanted her to stop talking. Veteran Carnival cruisers might mistake this more grown up vibe as being cold, and prefer the over the top party atmosphere found on some of the other Fun Ships. But I for one loved the more mature vibe. And let's not forget, you can't be too grown up with a bunch of waterslides adorning the superstructure. The staff were consistently friendly and attentive and our steward was excellent. Even Debarkation, something that is almost always painful, was the smoothest debarkation I have had on any cruise. The entire crew made sure that we were ushered off cleanly and easily. At first I must admit, I was taken back with this New Carnival. But by the end of 8 days, I was convinced that my latest cruise with Carnival won't be my last. Now only if they would come up with a solo cruisers program, I would be all set. Until they do, I'll stick with NCL for my solo cruising and Carnival for my cruises with the family. Read Less

Almost penalized once tour operator finds out you paid via cruise line Better off to book online and tip.you will get treated way better and enjoy your stay more. Good luck trying to discuss your experience with carnival if bad. Not very good customer service on the boat. The kids play area and drop off center was a judge hit with our 8 year old I must add. The people were great there. House keeping was also perfect. Mostly manager people were not good. If you plan to be on a budget it's not a bad cruise if you plan to just lay on a chair and do walking on the shore trips. If your looking for more there is definatly better cruise lines Read Less

We have been busy doing other life stuff and had not been able to cruise in the last 4 years we wanted a ship that had a lot of activities for my DH and Son. I loved this ship, I didn't love the buffet but I use the dining room as much as possible anyway. The Gelato station was a hit! Beer by the ounce would have been great but I only wanted a few ounces and you get warm foamy beer. This ship had a fabulous at Sea brunch menu which was open longer hours. There are many things that made this ship a hit, lots of really cool stuff to do. I wish the Movies would have been open during the day hours more. The cabin was wonderful Cove Balcony 2nd floor mid ship was the absolute best and we had an adjoining cabin with other family members. The shows in Main theater I didn't care for, but plenty of people seemed to like it so that's just me. Plus there are plenty other things to do. So no complaining. Read Less

Cabin was clean and bright, balcony was nice. Crew was outstanding and the food was excellent everywhere we went, especially the Steak House. The Steak House was outstanding! It was not only a visually delight but extremely delicious as well! The entertainment was good. The number of different shows was limited but what there was available was entertaining. The Casino was not well ventilated for those with asthma as many of the smokers congregrate at the bar and puff away for hours on end without playing in the casino. Bingo was held in the largest theatre room on the ship which allowed for many to join in keeping the cost down and the rewards up. The ship was easy to navigate and the Trivia games were newer and enjoyable. This is definitely a cruise that we will take again and hopefully with our grandchildren. Excellent value for the cost of the cruise. Read Less

I love the service food and activities. i also want to give a special shout out to Lawrence the cabin maintenance worker for always keeping my room clean when i got back Cabin 7362 and 7364 and Marius and lindo my waiters for dinner table 229. Marius, Lindo and Lawrence made me feel very welcome and comfortable, Marius, Lindo and Lawrence hospitality was also amazing they remembered my name for the whole cruise trip. It was experience i would never forget thanks to them. Mr Liu also made very good omelets for me the fun squad made sports and activities very exciting. The only negative thing i have to say is the casino. The smell inside of the casino was horrific and nasty i had to cover my nose when walking through the casino the smell of the smoke was unbearable. Read Less

Best: New ship, it's beautiful. Gaudy decor of the older ships no where to be found. Soft grays, beige, yellow, white, etc. The ship barely sways. If you like to be rocked to sleep at night, it won't happen. This new ship cuts through the water solid with very, very little motion. 4451 passengers on board and it never felt crowded. There are a lot of spaces to be alone or with only a few other people, search them out if that's what you like. Serenity deck for adults only is great, no pool but two jacuzzis. Shows: Celestial strings was the best, get to the lounge early and sit on the first floor near the stage, the cast will dance, sing and float by you while performing. The Halloween spooky show was good but I didn't understand the plot of the story. Ocean suite #7254 was quiet and near the front of the ship. The only downside - it was a long walk to the dining room every night. Chills and Thrills experience was so much fun and only $5.50 per person. I won't spoil it for you by explaining it. Food: The food in the dining room and buffet and stations was just OK. It's nothing to rave about. Many people rave about the pizza but it was horrible and I couldn't eat it. But then I live in a city where fantastic food is the norm, maybe others are not spoiled like me and my husband by our home city. The wait staff in the MDR was just OK, they did their job efficiently but we have experienced much better on other ships. They tried. We like to eat breakfast in the MDR but found the food horrible, I couldn't eat it. After the first day we ate at the buffet for breakfast where we could pick and choose the better prepared items. Ocean Suite: Cabin was large but lacked the storage areas of other ships. I missed the two dozen pieces of glass stemware we got on other ships in the ocean suite. When we entered our suite there was only one wine glass and one small water glass. No ice in the ice bucket and the refrigerator was dirty. A call to housekeeping corrected these items along with an excuse from the cabin steward that he missed us as we first came to our cabin and didn't know what we wanted. Well, save you excuses. I felt like the cabin steward was skating a little bit on the cleaning because it was a new ship and things might have looked clean when they weren't. Elevators: There is a lot of complaining about the elevators on Cruise critic but that comes down to most people not knowing how to use them. You need to press the deck floor for each person in your party. 5 people in your party, press it 5 times. My husband and I figured out how to override the computer system by pressing the floor 13 times, at which time a second car would be sent because the elevator thinks there are a lot of people waiting. That worked great! More first day training by the staff would've helped. Gluten Free: If you are on a gluten free diet, None of the gluten free items prepared were good. If I can make wonderful gluten free desserts and pastries at home why can't a professional chef make them? Carnival needs a lot of work on this. Watch your Bill: Two charges to our room were not ours!! Customer service took one off and promised to deduct the second one but it didn't come off! All in all, we had fun and might sail Carnival again, although are thinking of trying another line for comparison. Read Less

Carnival Horizon is a brand new ship and is a very pleasant surprise, in that it seems to be a upgrade from the ordinary. We did the 8 day Exotic Southern cruise which was the 2nd time on this itinerary.Because of this we did not get off in, La Romina Which was a great time to go and explore this beautiful ship. However we did go a shore in the other 3 ports Grand Turks not much to do and see, we have been here before so just a trip around the port area HIGH PRICES. CURACAO when you arrive and you are in a wheel chair don,t except to much we asked and was told we only have 1 lift bus and did not bring it we didn't think we needed it, they said talk to the taxi people well we tried but they blew us off, so we set out to explore on our own, did the shops and sight see in downtown area NICE. Aruba same thing with the wheelchair walked up to a cab operator and he said nice private tour about 2.5 hours 45.00 a person to some might not be a lot but to us to expensive, so we just went out on our own again. The islands are beautiful but the prices are pretty pricey. Now onto the The Horizon, Carnival is really making it handicap accessible,The Liquid Lounge main show room they have certain spaces set aside BUT arrive early as that they fill up fast The Limelight Lounge where comedy shows are is the same and if you are in a wheelchair you can skip the line and go to 2nd entrance just let the Carnival host know they will accommodate you or your spouse. The dining rooms and passage ways seem to be wider and easy to navigate> The crew on this ship is top notch and i would like to congratulate them on a job well done!!! We never had a problem with anyone and Mike the C.D. is a real professional and does his best to get everyone into a party mood. The food is typical Carnival food and after 15 ships i have had better and i have had worse the Lido area is a nice set up but more handicap seating PLEASE. With so many lunch choices we only ate there once then we tried the no charge lunch at the various places and the Italian was the best if you go for dinner there is a charge. The main dining room food was good 1st night it was, cold but did get better as we went along. We did The 555 steak house well worth the extra charge. The drinks are very pricey almost 14 dollars a round, we don't drink much but when we did OUCH. The entertainment top notch the Vegas style shows great the singers in Ocean Plaza THE BEST the Comics the worse I've seen in 15 cruise the R rated show was nothing short of being bullied Carnival please rethink. The CONS The ELEVATORS are the worse they are suppose to be smart so you tap the touch screen for how many people are waiting and it is suppose to send a car that could accommodate i would say 85 % of the time they show up full. That is when the rudeness of those inside went to 100% Carnival please rethink this system. In the past it seemed like we didn't notice the prices to much but now we cruise and we have to do it on a budget and it seems like the prices are going through he roof. In the past we would purchase pictures and trinkets this trip only a couple but i guess we have enough. If you or your spouse is handicap don't let that stop you this ship is a real nice treat and the handicap bathrooms are plentiful as long as you find one without the KIDS playing in it. In closing Carnival is still a great vacation for the money there are subtle changes and cut backs but all in all it is still the best bargain out there and we will cruise again SOON . Read Less
