The ship is in real terms old, having been purchased from Royal Caribbean, 1st constructed in the mid 90’s. However she has stood the test of time and is still very welcoming, for the type of cruiser that does not wants the whizz bang that the present day builds may have. The cabins are very much the same as every other ship in both design and size. However the media systems although modern flat screen, lack Video On Demand (VOD). But the Browser based, WiFi connected via all devices, notice board system worked really well. Even down to booking specialist restaurants or checking on board account. However there did not appear to be any sea based GSM mobile system. The usual minute based Wi-Fi system was available, for those who cannot do without their Internet time. The only bug bare with Wi-Fi, is the per minute pricing, when we all know data is charged by the Mbit. Just remember when travelling in Europe and some of the islands in the caribbean, this is not a problem because you can use you home plan whilst roaming. I glad to see that all the photographic based system used by the camera crew, where again accessed via the browser or dedicated tech stations. So that there was not wastage of row after row of printed photos. Entertainment onboard in all areas was varied and excellent, you can well understand why this cruise line tops the customer satisfaction in this area. Food was varied and delicious, all venues are freedom dining, this could lead to a wait at busy times. However personally I prefer this to the now out of fashion club dining. Food service was well organised but not over the top. Room servicing as always cannot be faulted, timely and efficient. Bar service was at times a little slow, but use of electronic tablet ordering led to few errors. The only bone of contention, as regards the All Inclusive (AI) bars was concerned, where chargeable items, unless you had the premium AI, at an extra £50 pppw. However some of these, if in a cocktail, would be free, very confusing. Also bottled water was chargeable, although each cabin floor had a chilled water machine. Finally the navigational staff, ie captain etc, where not very visible, which seems a little bit of a shame. Read Less

We had done 3 previous cruises with another company but for some reason our travel agent pressurized us to book Marella there was only inside cabins available so we went with it has we had used them previously and they had internal balconies or a window overlooking the shopping area. What a shock when we opened the door of cabin 7117 a small dark room the bed had to be pushed against the wall leaving the person on the inside have to crawl over the partner to get in and out. As this cruise cost 5 grand plus we were very disappointed to spend 2 weeks in this cave never sure if it was night or day. Would recommend anyone considering this ship if no outside cabins available do not consider this ship as we were very close to leaving after 7 days as no upgrade or other shore options were offered Read Less

We went around the eastern med. The ship was ok all staff were good , friendly and worked very hard. Food was good but always busy in the island restaurant in mornings and at linsh time. Snack shack food was good at lunch you could get small portions of fish & chips or chicken & chips Ect. Gallery 47 restaurant was ok and we only had to wait about 10 to 15 mins to be seated you get a buzzer so you can go and have a drink while you are waiting. Bar staff were good in live bar and around the pool also when watching the shows always asking if you need anymore drinks. We paid to upgrade to a delux cabin with a balcony on seventh deck which was very nice the only down side which spoiled our holiday was that this cabin has a VERY VERY Bad vibration through out the cabin from the balcony to the front door this happened every time the engines were running day and although the night the bed was shaking we later found out that cabin 7088 has the same problem. We also had a problem with the airconditioning it was freezing cold and although we turned it right on to the warmest setting it was still freezing we reported it but nothing changed we were told you could not turn it off, Our cabin steward Lino and his team were very good nothing was to much trouble for him Thank you LINO. I wasn't expecting much from this cruise - having been once before with P&O on Ventura and finding the food to be absolutely dire for the price we paid - but the itinerary and local flights from Cardiff to Corfu suited us so decided to go for my 40th birthday with my mother. And what a completely different experience it was! Firstly, I am not a fan of all-inclusive and haven't done such a holiday in over 14 years. But I am now well and truly converted, at least as far as Marella is concerned. The food was absolutely delicious, wherever we ate. It was good quality and there were definitely no short-cuts being taken anywhere. In fact, a carved fillet steak we got in the Main Dining Room (so no supplement) was the best fillet steak I have EVER tasted, anywhere....! I am not sure how that is even possible but there you go, it just goes to show the quality of the food Marella are delivering on their cruises. The drinks included had to be experienced to be believed - the only thing not included was bottled water...! Main brand drinks all the way and even better the wonderful staff were there taking your orders from your table or your sun lounger and promptly delivering them straight to you! Now, the staff.... Just wow....! I have stayed in quite a few 5* hotels that could only dream of providing the service that the staff provided on the Discovery. It was seriously that good. Bearing in mind how many staff members there are on the ship - and I could honestly not fault one single person. They worked tirelessly to give us a fabulous holiday. I am not sure how Tui/Marella are doing this at the prices they charge but it just goes to show they are definitely doing something right as every single member of staff was absolutely top notch and so happy to be there doing their jobs. Special mention for our Cabin Steward Charlie, who was an absolute angel and also to Josh Harris the actor host, who was absolutely beautiful, both inside and out! Such a lovely person who always took the time to talk to us, what an absolute gentleman. Thanks Josh! Martyn the Cruise Director was also lovely and always took the time to ask how we were enjoying ourselves. There are only one or two things I think Marella could improve upon, which isn't a lot bearing in mind how picky I am when it comes to holidays. Firstly the entertainment wasn't that great - we nicknamed the Live Room the 'Dead Room' as the resident pianist Jessica wasn't to our taste at all and neither were the band 4Tunes - we found the song choices from both were just really depressing! The saving grace was two shows from the absolutely amazing comedian Jay McGee - he was the funniest comedian I've seen for a long time and it was impossible to watch him without crying tears of laughter - my cheeks hurt from laughing so hard! Love you Jay! There was also an odd odour of sewerage in some parts of the ship which wasn't very pleasant and still not sure where it came from. Also, the taps in the cabin bathroom are horrific and need to be changed asap. They were of the 'spinkler' type and just splashed water everywhere apart from on our hands and faces! After only being back from the cruise only 1 day I am already looking to book again for next year with Marella and I cannot wait. A MASSIVE well done to all of you and thank you so much for changing my mind about the whole cruise experience! Read Less

Our group of 6 adults cruised the iconic isles cruise it was fantastic from start to finish apart from two nights of rough seas that prevented us docking in Zante but instead we docked in katakolon which was beautiful. Food and drink was excellent something to suit everyone bar staff gr8 and especially the waiter Nikola from serbea who was so good to us throughout the week. Inside cabin was compact but good for us and had everything we needed Reginald was our house keeper and always was so pleasent and friendly. Will definitely be booking again well done TUI.Embarkment and Disembarkment were exceptional smooth and as we were on an evening flight we were able to stay on book with full use of all inclusive facilities until our pick up time, luggage all colour coded and ready for our coach. Only downside was the entertainment got a bit repetitive and we didn't enjoy the comedian at all but still loads more to keep us entertained. Read Less

Joined cruise in Corfu. Sailed to Kotor Slovenia next day. Very nice place. Didn't take a tour. Just had a wander around. Sailed to Venice overnight. Enjoyed very much although it was still busy when we arrived on 16th Sept. I don't think it would be bearable in July August. We paid £54 each for a gondola tour but found out later that a gondola trip was 80 euros for 6 people. Sailed to Split overnight. Again we had a wander around. Very nice. Sailed to Dubrovnick overnight. Got off ship and took a tour with local guide 20 euros each. Taken on panoramic tour up the mountain. 4 Stops and then back to the ship. Fantastic. Sailed to Kotor Montenegro overnight. This is the most spectacular. Like a Norwegian Fjord without the greenery. There is a medieval town next to the dock. This is a must see. Overall I would say that the cruise was good value for money. Some of the shows are very good. The Chaplin show was exceptional. The crew and reps were also very good. The food was also ok. Unless you are very fussy. We used self service mostly and went to Italian restaurant Twice. Same food but you had to wait. You can also top up in the self service as the portions are small I've read on other reviews that the bar service is bad. My thoughts on this are that overall it was ok. Although ther is no queuing system and unless the barperson is on the ball you can get frustrated. Read Less

Been on few cruises in the last few years but would not go back on discovery 2. Corfu airport very small and massive que on way home. Some people were having to que outside as there flight was delayed. Upgraded to a balcony room on 6th floor which was lovely. Staff nice. Did three excursions. Two were on the electric bikes which were great. George and Sophie were great guides. Would highly recommend this. Did an excursion in Venice think it was called secret escape? It was awful not at all like it’s advertised. Would not recommend. Hot tubs were not hot and a few times only one worked. Service in restaurants and bars were very slow and it appeared the staff were not experienced. Never enough staff on. Entertainment was poor apart from opera singer Benjamin. Was really disappointed after spending a lot of money on this cruise.Would rather go on an older ship where you are looked after better. Read Less

We chose the Adriatic cruise leaving from Corfu because of the itinerary. The staff in every department were really great & worked their socks off. The food was good, if a little repetitive. The Asian restaurant Kora La was absolutely fantastic - far & away the best food on the ship, & the service was great too. The entertainment was great - Benjamin Gillan & Paul Greenwood were really good. We enjoyed the bands as well. One point is that the Live Room was perhaps a bit small for the bands? Change it to a pub type bar, keep the acoustics in there, put the bands in the Venue. Cabin was small but fine, if a bit tired, bit the hair dryers were awful. They had hardly any power. Eva, our cabin steward, found me another which was more powerful but had the button you had to keep pressed down & it kept falling out of the socket. Bring your own, people! Bathroom was very well designed but would have been nicer with a solid surround in the shower. All in all a good trip without beg excitement. Read Less

Some of the shows wouldn't have been out of place in the West End Choice of restaurants was great, and the gym facilities were adequate Destinations were ideal and we had enough time in each to get to relax, soak up the atmosphere before returning to ship. We just wish we had discovered cruising years ago- the perfect balance of relaxation, activity, good food and brilliant service- Tui should be very proud of Marella Discovery 2, its staff and crew- there was a sense of pride in the way everyone went about their daily tasks only recommendation- more effort into the open air cinema programme- Hook, Jumanji, BIG and Ghostbusters but only approx. 10 children on board And charging for wifi seemed a bit cheeky Read Less

Aegean Shores – TUI Marella Discovery 2 (7 day cruise) This was our second TUI cruise and overall it was enjoyable and due to the ports of call. Booking I booked through the TUI offices in West Lothian and spoke to a lady called Lynne. She was absolutely fabulous and I can’t thank her enough for her time and assistance. Flights and Transfers The flights were on time and the in-flight service was excellent. My only issue is that once checked in we then had to collect our cases on arrival and haul them to coaches. Previously, once we’d checked in, the next time we saw our cases was outside our cabin door. Cabin Our cabin was spacious and I only have praise for housekeeping staff, Irinya who serviced our cabin on a daily basis and was excellent. Food We ate almost exclusively in the 47° restaurant for breakfast, dinner and the occasional lunch. The waiter service was friendly and efficient. Sometimes we had to wait for a table but never longer than 20 minutes. The food was varied and of good quality. Unfortunately the food elsewhere on board was not so good. Snack Shack – This busy pool side food area serves chips, battered fish and chicken wings, all day EVERY DAY! This became very monotonous which was frustrating and disappointing. Also the sandwiches were wrapped in a paper bag and had minimum fillings of very poor quality. The salads came in a flimsy cardboard container that fell apart once you picked it up and the salad was 80% lettuce. The Glass House – Only visited this once and that was enough. Very poor selection of food available which was hidden behind glass counters, very poor quality and variety. The Islands – Busy self-service restaurant, only visited this for afternoon tea. Again very disappointed in the quality and variety of food offered here. Sandwiches made with thick sliced bread and minimum fillings. Selection of cakes (if you could call them cakes) was of very poor quality and the only hot choice on EVERY DAY was sausage roll! With the exception of the 47° restaurant the food on offer was of poor quality and cheap! Drinks It is an all-inclusive package so most drinks are included in the price. My only issues with this are: * Unless you pay an extra £50 bottled water is chargeable * When ordering drinks if you don’t specify the brand name of the alcohol you want you get served the cheap rubbish! * The bar staff were very thin on the ground and on occasions you had to wait some considerable time to get served. And the bar staff had trouble keeping a check of who was next to being served and on occasions just wandered off. * The cocktails were very disappointing, the bar staff simply threw them together so each time you had one they tasted different. Also the glasses were never decorated or accompanied with fruit that you would expect to be part of the cocktail experience – again very disappointing. Entertainment This was the most disappointing aspect of the cruise, with the exception of the Broadway Show Lounge. Elsewhere on the ship the entertainment was shabby, boring and a holiday camp could have provided a better standard. There were 3 grand pianos on board, one in the 47° restaurant, the Atrium and the Live Room. The only piano played was in the Live Room. So no background pianist during dinner or in the Atrium, despite the fact a pianist was on board. In fact on one occasion two of the entertainment staff were holding an evening dance class in the Atrium bar and the music came from a laptop placed ON TOP of the piano! It seems more common that the Atrium is used for entertainment when a pianist playing music or taking requests would have been more than sufficient and relaxing. On the last night the entertainment staff gave a farewell musical event in the Atrium bar, they were all casually dressed, un co-ordinated and singing to a backing track which was very amateurish, uninspiring and cheesy. The opera singer was superb but singing Time to Say Goodbye on the last night was a cringe-fest. On the day of departure many of us had late flights but had to vacate our cabins by 08.30. As a result passengers were sat in the Atrium and other bars killing time and milling around. During the whole day no entertainment was provided and the shops were shut. Passengers sat around as if they were in an airport departure lounge or doctors surgery, very disappointing. Clearly an example of key staff assigned other duties and a possible reflection of how understaffed the ship was. Excursions The excursions were more expensive than our last cruise and we only booked two as a result. The Athens excursion cost £65pp. We set off about 9am and were back on the ship by 1pm. During this time we spent just over an hour at the Acropolis, the rest of the time was spent on the bus with places of interest pointed out to us as we drove past. This was by no means value for money and I certainly would not recommend this excursion to anyone. Although our guide was excellent and well informed and her capabilities not a result if any input from Marella. The bicycle ride in Crete cost £36pp. On our last cruise we took a bicycle excursion in Ibiza which we thoroughly enjoyed. They are not cheap but as we enjoyed the bike ride we booked again in Crete expecting similar. I have to say that the staff in charge of the bike excursion were fantastic (Sophie & George) and I have no complaints about them, however I do feel disappointed with the excursion. My complaint centres the duration and time spent actually cycling. Within 20 minutes of starting we had a 45 minute stop in Heraklion, which was fine. We then cycled for approx. 30-40 mins to some obscure beach and spent about 11/2 hours there. We then headed back to the ship and arrived approx. 2pm. All in all very disappointing due to short duration and minimum time actually cycling! Summary Aspects of the cruise were enjoyable and met our expectations but it was crystal clear that TUI were trying to cut costs wherever possible, particularly the standard and quality of food offered, the entertainment and the number of staff. It’s tempting to say that it was a floating holiday camp when, with a little creative thought and small expense, it could be so much more than it was. It has certainly made us think twice about booking again with TUI. Read Less

hi all my family chose this cruise for my mum and nannas joint birthday. this is my first cruise and I thought I would be bored but I was wrong. the food drinks and staff were all excellent even the entertainment was great. the housekeeper fondrila and her team were amazing think that's how you spell her name. anyway I was impressed by everything. I would go again on this ship. the only things that bugged me was that by 9am the pool deak was packed and I felt closed in with so many people it was hard to get to the pool. also it took a while to get served at any indoor bar as only one person was working at a time which on week 2 of my trip was bad as there was twice as many people on board. also all the game activities such as mini golf or shuffleboard organised by the hosts were done before 4pm and as I had booked trips I couldn't join in which would have been nice. if you do decide to go you will enjoy it a lot there is plenty of food choice in the buffet but you only get little portions in the free restaurants its ok if your not fussy but look at the menu before you decide to go in and go before 7pm as the restaurants do get very busy Read Less

This was our first ever cruise. We were a bit dubious at first and wasn’t sure if it was for us, but after a couple of days, we found our feet and began to enjoy it. The day at sea, the boat was very very busy (understandably), the pool area looked like seal colony, people were packed in like sardines, which I didn’t like. Days at destinations was fine - plenty of room. The staff are EXCELLENT! Very friendly and always happy to help you and serve you. Certain staff really stood out ... the Head Waiter Josico ... great manager and really goes out of his way to help. Charity the waitress in the steak restaurant is just lovely! Sofie on the destination desk was lovely and so helpful. Some of the entertainment is fantastic ... our favourites were the singer Maynia / Jessica Drake on the Piano / the comedian is a must! He’s so so funny. Those 3 entertainers were the highlight of our cruise. The Steak restaurant for a supplement is well worth it! The food and service are amazing! The only thing that was a bit of a let down was that every day you would be pretty much guaranteed to be served a drink that was not 100% clean. We sent back lots of drinks because lots of glasses had lipstick marks on them. Read Less

I have previously cruised with Tui, on this ship and a sister ship. The quality of the food has gone down hill to the point of being very average now. The Italian restaurant was a choice of three menus that just got rotated. The main restaurant choice was poor and didn't arrive as described too often. Peach Melba came out as tinned peach slices and ice cream. Truffle oil came out as olive oil. Cream came out as custard. Mature Balsamic Vinegar came out as straight Balsamic that had sugar added. Vegetable Tatin came out as onions and sweet peppers.... The list goes on. The ship shows its age badly. Broken doors on the wardrobe, scratched tops to the dressers, rust holes in the edge of the balcony, wet rot on deck boards, trip hazards on deck drains, scratched hand rails on stairs. Even the seals were falling out on the glass on the balcony. The staff, ( lots less than last year ), were great and tried really hard but we're on a hiding to nothing. Short staffing just doesn't work! Probably the most annoying thing is the vibration that ship now has all the time. So much worse than last year. If not it was the lifts. They only seem to have half of them working and if they did they missed some decks completely when called. The most unsettling point was the continuous list to port, nothing was vertical always leaning to the left. Yes, I checked with the inbuilt level on the camera and even made a plumb Bob with cotton and a spool. Great itinerary and trips, but they were so expensive. £23 to visit a site that is a 4 Euro coach ride away on the quay. Will be cruising again, but not with Marcella. Oh and finding out that booking 18 months in advance just got me stiffed for 30% higher cost than friends we made on the trip in that had a better cabin on a higher deck. Read Less

flight to corfu .....no problem . 1 hour after getting bags at airport we were in the cabin ...the cases arrived promptly. Cabin ...a junior suite was spacious with a big balcony ....spotlessly clean and kept that way by the steward who was brilliant. Meals in Islands restaurent ....most of the time ....i thought were good ....lots of negative comments on this site however ....speak as you find ..if you wanted finer dining you had options ...but booking well in advance was necessary or wait till called ....which didn,t appeal to us . The islands buffet was probably the best of its type we have experienced on our cruising experiences...quite quiet after 8 .15pm suited us ...give them some credit the staff were brilliant .. Timing is important on a cruise ship re dining ....go at peak times and you get what you should have expected ...we planned our days to avoid busy times and found the whole experience to be relaxing. Sunbathed on the balcony ....make sure you get the correct side of the ship for the most benefit of this and beware of the deck 8 cabins forward under the overhang which restricts sun. We read about noise above deck 8 before we went but never experienced any problems. must have been lucky ? The itinerary was great...i loved being in a different port every day almost and we did 3 excursions which were worth doing. Enertainment was exactly what we expected ...decent standard .....cruise ship musicals ....a comedian etc.....surely customers have an idea what its going to be like ....most night the Broadway theatre was pretty full ...dancers and singers were excellent. Individuals and groups playing in different areas of the ship were generally excellent. Disembarkation was smooth ...wait your.turn ...relax on ship ....on the bus ...corfu airport experience ok ...despite the prophets of doom on the ship.....and there were plenty of them.....flight on time ..great. To summarise ....a good relaxing holiday ....nice ship ...staff great ..worth the money . Came back home pleased with the whole experience. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we’ve cruised with thompson’s 8 times and tui teice and wasnted to go on the new ship and try out the new marella company. We boarded the ship with no problems flights and port to ship tranfers were great embarkation process was as usual very quick and efficient. We were diricted to our cabin. Supposed to be standard inside as we always get. When we got there it all went wrong. Cabin 7621 as soon as we walked in we realised the cabin was not normal shape size or orientation to normal inside berths. The double bed is jammed up against the wall so whoever was on the inside had to climb over the other person to get out not good if you both have arthritis! Also no fridge my wife has special prescription eye medication that must be kept chilled so another major problem. Went to reception to complain and was told “sorry ship is full no chance of move or upgrade or any compensation if your not happy contact whoever you booked your cruise with and complain to them when you get home!!!!” we were raging!!!! Eventually after more complaints we got a small fridge that we managed to jam under the dressing table and had to have the chair removed to give us some space. Added to the the air conditioning fan was noisy and freezing cold complains every day they came and banged around a few times but still the same when we left. Other issues. Dining room queues were ridiculas if not in by 7-30 you had to wait with a buzzer in hand till called and when you got in there were loads of empty seats. Obviously a staff shortage issue service is slow expect to spend at least an hour in there for for a 3 course meal of small portions and longer if you want coffee at the end. For years we’ve raced over the legendry thompson entertainment and show teams. Not this time some shows ok others borderline shocking to the point many people walked out. Opera singer benjamin being the exception he is amazing. Finally the ships smoking policy is disgusting they have smoking tables located a mere 2 metres from the opening to the snack shack. The entire starboard side of the pool deck upper deck an life boat deck stinks of tobbaco, vope smoke and stale cigarettes urgghhhh!!!! Finally when we came to disembark all the passegers going on to stay in hotels on. Off we’re kept on board until 13-45 the busses were then also late meaning we didn’t get to our hotel till 15-00 even though it was only on the other side of corfu bay we could see the ship from our hotel room. So disappointed. We were big fans of thompson but now seeking alternative companies as the prices have also gone up but standards sadly have dropped. Discovery 2 used to be called the legend of the seas if it’s allowed to sail like this the mabe the legend has died. Read Less

Hi all , myself and my family decided after a lot of mixed feelings to book a cruise and as this was our first we decided to do 1 week cruising and 3 days in a hotel . Let me start by saying that myself and my family were all very excited about setting sail for the first time as TUI have a good name in value for money cruises. As it was our first cruise we went with our friends who have been on 3 other Tui cruises and highly recommended them . This is how me and my family rated the Tui Discovery 2. customer service - very poor many staff had the wrong attitude towards paying customers , I had to bite my tongue on more then one occasion, the amount of time spent standing at the bar waiting to get served was incredible, they need more staff. The only staff that were friendly and made me smile were cabin cleaners . Thanks Lino. Food - the island self service restu rant is very poor , the gallery restaurants were hit and miss and not a great choice, glass house wasn't bad but very small portions and only seated a small amount of people , the snack shack food was OK for fast food, not something you would have day in day out . The other restaurants that you pay extra for were all booked up within the first two hours of being on the ship, so we couldn't get in at all. Shops - don't open until 18:30 and are completely rubbish unless you want tobacco or designer items . Pool - this was more like a kitchen sink . Sunbeds - Tui says you can't hold a sunbed for more then an hour if your not present , that's rubbish as people pegged towels to beds and we're gone all day . Very crampt deck area . Glass house pool - nice but couldn't understand why children had to leave the indoor pool by a certain time , it's hot outside and the kids wanted to play in the pool. And here is my biggest gripe with this disappointing ship, Entertainment - without a shadow of a doubt the worse entertainment I have ever experienced on a holiday , either live music ,live music ,live music, dance lessons, or bingo , I expected so much more from a company like TUI. Cruise - never again with Tui. Read Less

This was our fourth cruise with Thompson/Tui the previous 3 were great . It sort of went downhill on arrival , we boarded approx 2130-2200 ish told we had to attend safety meeting in the venue at 2230 grabbed a bit of leftovers from buffet " restaurant " and went to the venue only to be told meeting could,nt start until the last flight had got there which turned out to be 2330 we had to endure listening to the assistant cruise director making cringe worthy jokes , the bar was closed during this time so nothing to numb the pain. The food was average at best , the Italian had 2 menus rotating which after 2 weeks cruising got boring and repetitive. The main "restaurant" was nothing special the portions were small even for a la carte Islands buffet breakfast was ok,lunch was like leftovers from previous meals lots of curries, pies and fishcakes The best food we had was in the Glass house dined there 4 times 3 in times in our last week as we were fed up of the other restaurants. The service in the restaurants was terrible ,long waiting times for meals, long waits for drinks also seems like the waiting staff forget about you when the order is taken , also there is the wait to get into the restaurants sometimes 30-40 minutes then when you do get in there be amazed there seem to be at least 6 or 7 tables empty , that just tells me either the kitchens can,t cope or the waiting staff are undermanned which on observation seemed to be the case. The bars were the same long waits , 2 people trying to serve lots of people does, not work. Some of the bar waiting staff were quite surly with a reluctance to take orders, again every area seems to be understaffed. The entertainment apart from Andy Abraham's was poor, the quality of the shows was,nt all that either . The assistant cruise director who loved the sound of his own voice on the microphone was cheesy and irritating The pool entertainment was pathetic a quiz and a game of what I can only describe as adult I-Spy. The itinery was absolutely great Summing it all up compared to 3 previous cruises with the same company this one seems not to have the quality, too much cost cutting regards staffing levels and service ,maybe designed to stop you eating and drinking what you like when you like , thus saving money Read Less

We travelled as a family with two children under 14 , on back to back cruises , the Adriatic Explorer and Iconic Islands. The itinery was brilliant including Venice and Santorini which we really wanted , hence choosing TUI on this occasion, having travelled with Royal Caribbean twice and Princess Cruises once before. * SHIP * The Discovery 2 is a great addition to the TUI fleet , and although refurbished is more than enough in quality for any average Brit traveller (as we are) who will not be disappointed. A good looking vessel. * DINING / FOOD * We used the Islands Buffet restaurant , and occasionally the Snack Shack. The food was good quality and varied. * CABIN * We had an outside cabin on level 2. The window was quite large , giving us all a great view of the scenery as we cruised along , well worth the small extra charge from an inside cabin. It was located near the rear of the ship , in a quiet position. We all slept very well indeed. There was enough space for a family , the beds for the kids dropped from the side walls. It was very clean and functional , although some of the furniture was aged with scratched draws. One kept falling off it's runner which was a bit annoying when accerssing things. The safe was spot on (although old), free of charge , accessed using a major credit card for the strip only. Not seen this type before , as I am used to tapping numbers in , but once I got used to it it was fine. I had no problems leaving valuables in there. * ENTERTAINMENT * One word , fantastic ! We went to all the shows in the Broadway Theatre. They were high quality and varied. It was clear a lot of effort had gone in to each performance. We also enjoyed other areas including The Venue , featuring an X factor finalist Andy. This was an unexpected level of quality. What a great singer - shame he didn't win ! The dance couple were amazing. The dance to the 'Bond Theme' left us all speechless. A big thank you to the entertainment team for making our cruise so enjoyable. * SERVICE * The cabin staff and bar staff/waiters were all super polite. Special thanks go to Janette, Alistair, Reymond, Mladen, Jorge and Malcolm - great people ! We had one complaint against a pool attendant who was not polite but unfriendly and confrontational in our opinion. Had this not occurred we would have given the cruise a 5 star rating. The complaint was handled eventually after several attempts thanks to the general manager Malcolm Chapple. TUI need to improve their complaint handling process to prevent unnecessary escalation to this level , and we have given this feedback to them in the hope other cruisers will not be impacted like we were after only a few hours into a 14 day cruise - this spoilt the 'holiday feel' somewhat for a few days. * DRINKS * The all inclusive drinks package is more than enough. Good draught beers/ciders to include John Smiths , Fosters , Strongbow , and bottled to include Becks , Guiness , Corona , Peroni (nice touch TUI) , many cocktails/shorts ,cola ,orange juice and much more. No need to buy the premium package at all in our opinion. * EXCURSIONS * Very very expensive. Recommend 'do it yourself' , haggle with taxi drivers etc as we did. S U M M A R Y A good quality cruise which was very enjoyable , and so nearly a 5 star rating ! Read Less

Went with a party of eight and we all enjoyed the experience overall. This was our fourth cruise with Thomson (TUI) and we've enjoyed them all but this was the best to date. Plenty of storage space in the cabin. Dined in the main restaurant mostly and whilst we had to wait a couple of times in the evening we were given bleepers so that we could go and sit in one of the bars and have a drink until called - thought this was a great idea. Food was very good with choices in all restaurants to suit most tastes. Snacks and drinks are available all day. Entertainment was excellent (Thomsons always has been) particularly in the Broadway theatre and the live room. Late night disco also to suit most tastes - nice to have a soul and motown hour on a couple of the nights. Staff were very friendly and the cabin staff were brilliant - very clean and tidy ship. The "Navigate" App is free and is a great addition. You can access your account, find out details about the ship and what's going on, access and purchase your personal ship photos and make bookings amongst other things. Duty free shopping is very reasonable, whilst at sea, particularly the cigarettes. Good mix of people of all age groups in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Plenty of areas to sunbathe or relax in the shade. The gym seemed well equipped and quite popular (I only know this from walking through it to a sunbathing deck). Deck 11 used for jogging early morning. Three areas for smokers to socialise on Decks 4,9 & 10 starboard side. The relaxed dress codes suited us too. Smart casual in the evening in most areas. Altogether a thoroughly enjoyable experience and a few nice touches added. Our only gripe was the cost/allocation of the ships Wifi. Paid £48 for eight days(1200mb) which lasted for three days (Facebook can have a very high usage). We would have prefered it if the usage was limited to 150mb per day as you can soon use up your maximum allowance and have none left for the end of the week. Read Less

Slow service lots of drinks not available. Held captive on departure because they had a mix up with our credit card. Offensive and aggressive staff on departure and it was their mix up no fault of ours. Cruises many times with royal Caribbean the discovery 2 and tui or whatever they call themselves now are a very poor comparison. Will not be cruising with them again. Oh and two of us had dodgy stomached for two days. On a brighter note the food at surf and turf was excellent. Islands self service was a little aged as was the rest of the ship but again this is in comparison to the vastly superior royal Caribbean cruise liners. Staff generally were friendly just the major issue on exit when we nearly missed the transfer, not an ideal way to end the holiday. In summary dated , didn’t feel to clean and don’t expect them to have all the drinks you have already paid for on all inclusive. Only decent food is extra charge some of the meat in islands was unrecognisable, we just called it generic meat. Read Less

We absolutely loved this cruise, the Adriatic the first week and the Aegean the second week. A few places we had been before as in Venice, Split, Dubrovnik,Santorini, Rhodes and Bodrum, others like Koper in Slovenia, Kotor in Montenegro and Chania in Crete we hadn’t visited before. We treated ourselves to a Junior Suite with a balcony this time and it was worth every penny, we wouldn’t settle for anything less next time. There were plenty of restaurants to choose from, we used the Islands buffet most mornings which offered a great selection of cold and hot food, in the evenings we chose to eat at 47 Restaurant where we had some lovely food and were waited on by Aleksander and Tomas who were very welcoming, friendly and attentive. Our cabin stewards were Rega and Milos who did an excellent job in keeping our cabin immaculate, nothing was too much bother for them. The entertainment was fantastic, very professional. On going ashore, we did our own thing as it suited us to do that though there were many shore excursions available. The only grumble we had, and it’s a very small one, was that the bars were understaffed - it nearly always took a long time to be served. However, we had all the time in the world, so it didn’t really matter that much though I believe lots of other people felt the same. All in all, we had a wonderful time and hope to book another cruise on Discovery 2 in the future. Read Less

This was our fifth cruise but our first with Marella (4 with RCI). Unfortunately funds were low this year so, faced with the prospect of no cruise we bit the bucket and booked with Marella. Firstly, booking was simple - a few mouse clicks, credit card out and we were done. Just over £1,000 each all inclusive for a week doing the Agean Meze (flights from Edinburgh). Flight was fine, on time and pleasant enough. Arrived at Corfu airport and. Eat by TUI reps who gave us our sea cards and directed us to the bus. Transfer to the port quick and easy as was checkin. Unfortunately the check in guy didn’t register our credit card so I had to go to guest relations when we boarded to do that (no big deal). Cabin 7585 (allocated, we didn’t prebook) was fine. Nice enough with ample hanging and storage space and was always kept clean. The ship is generally of a good quality (though showing signs of age in places) and, we felt, public areas weren’t kept to the same standard of cleanliness on RCI. Food Italian restaurant was lovely but alternated two menus so we only went twice. MDR food was good but quite boring - turkey dinner, haggis, needs and tatties etc. Despite trying on embarkation day we couldn’t get booked into either of the speciality restaurants. Glasshouse was nice for tapas and pizza. Islands we felt was bog standard fare and not a great variety. Snack shack ok but quite small portions of fish and chips and my Caesar salad didn’t have much to it. Drink Long waits at all bars, just not enough staff! Also lack of bar waiters. I think the majority of passengers hadn’t seen drink before and wanted to make sure they got their money worth! The number of people we saw who were three sheets to the wind.... not the cruise operators fault. Smoking We are both smokers (hangs head in shame) and found it bizarre that they have tables where you can smoke next to the snack shack and in close proximity to the pool where kids were. Usually we enjoy a seat, drink and ciggie on deck four but there were no seats available which was disappointing. Deck 10 had three tables and a handful of chairs between the windshields but it got extremely windy so we spent a lot of our time standing on deck four. Entertainment Meh. Not great. Some of the shows were ok and one of the bands (I forget the name) were really good. UK comedian Phil Doyle was good but unfortunately a fight broke out during one of his shows which seemed to put him off a bit. Ports were lovely but we did our own thing so can’t comment on any of the excursions. All in all we had a nice enough holiday but felt it was a bit like floating Butlins. Unfortunately some of this was probably down to the passengers on board and not attributable to Marella. Captain Chris was mildly irritating with the constant “bobby dazzler” comments and “Martin Payne with two Ys...” RCI definitely a better choice for us but I guess it depends what you’re looking for. Disembarkation was easy and flight home good. Read Less

Just got back from 2 weeks on the Marella Discovery 2 and can honestly say we had a fantastic holiday. The ship/cabin were spotless, cabin was cleaned twice a day. Dining was the best food I've had when abroad as I rarely like foreign food when on holiday, different story on this cruise though, never ate so well. The 47 restaurant was my favorite, everything I ate was delicious. Must mention Jayson from station 12 who waited on us nearly every night, so polite and nothing was too much for him, he even sings the odd song which made dining really pleasant. Sometimes had to wait half an hour to 40 minutes for a table, but that was no problem as we went in the bar and had a pre dinner drink. Entertainment was second to none, Emir, Jessica, Helen and the rest of the entertainment crew were as good as any Broadway show I've been to and there was a different show on for the whole 2 weeks we were there. Martin and Danielle who sings opera style were fantastic too. I would also like to mention the bar staff who worked their socks off serving our drinks, especially Moka who served us most nights. We didn't do any excursions, there was 6 of us (all adults) so we either stayed by the port or jumped a taxi to where we wanted to go. Venice was my favorite but most places were beautiful and we visited some gorgeous beaches. Only gripe I have is that the pool isn't big enough to accommodate how many people are on the ship, you can't move sometimes without bumping into someone. This was my first cruise but for the people I was with it was their 6th, I was not disappointed and will definitely be going on another one....Well Done TUI Read Less
