We chose this cruise mostly for the itinerary, and because we had such a great time on Viking's "Grand European". This was the first leg of "France's Finest" for us. While the trip was enjoyable, I wasn't impressed with some of the included excursions. I think I've toured enough churches, castle ruins and palaces to last the remainder of my life! There wasn't enough free time at some of the ports. Favorite stops were Giverny; Rouen; and the beaches at Normandy, but there was not nearly enough time at the D-Day Museum. I would love to return to that area at a more leisurely pace. The food on the Rolf was good, but not memorable. I found the Program Director to be overbearing, sometimes to the point of being annoying. The majority of fellow passengers were older (we are in our early 60s). Our pre-cruise extension in Paris was delightful. Read Less

Based on advertising and friend recommendation Nothing special, wait staff and bartenders were GREAT. Cruise Director (Mimi) was terrible spoke to us like we were children. Referred to Joan of Arc as “Joanie on a pony” an insult to all concerned Food was not of the quality I expected. Waited in line at the unorganized buffet only to find the main course was hot dogs and kraut. Room (least expensive) had an on and off sewer smell. Didn’t, bother to complain. They advise spend less time getting there and more time being there. Shipwas 45 minutes from downtown Paris. Visit to Normandy beaches was TWO HOURS by bus Certainly can not recommend this cruise especially given the premium price Won’t choose this carrier again. Way over hyped. Returning passengers said this was not typical Viking cruise. It was typical for us so that is all I can say Choose carefully !,! Read Less

This was our first river cruise and a disappointment after having experienced ocean cruises with Regent and Silver-sea. First impression upon arrival was that the boat appeared to be an over-sized houseboat. Our veranda suite was clean and well appointed, but was small and more cramped than suites we were used to on ocean cruises. The lounge area was the meeting place each day for briefings on dinner and the next days schedule of activity. You had to arrive early to get a good seat and folding chairs were brought in to accommodate the 180+ passengers on board. The dining area was adequate and very nice. Open seating was available but all tables seated six or more people. We prefer to have multiple dinning options which include a "romantic dinner for two". The food was average. The complimentary wines were the highlight of the dining experience. On a positive note, Viking did an excellent job with handling transfers and transportation. Michael the cruise director was excellent and perfect for the job. The "Paris at night" excursion is a must do as well as the "Normandy beaches and memorial". Read Less
