This was our second trip on the Victory. This sailing was to Key West and Cozumel, while the previous trip was a few years back from NY to Canada. On this most recent sailing, we noticed areas that were dirty, rusted or otherwise somewhat neglected since the previous sailing. We had the feeling that the crew are letting things slide a bit because they know the Victory is scheduled for a major overhaul in the near future. Nothing too terrible, but wall paneling was worn and stained in our cabin and in some public areas, cushions on lounge chairs were worn out and sometimes missing, toilets and fixtures were stained. None of the issues were so bad that I would avoid cruising on Victory, but just know you're sailing on an old vessel that's ready for an update. And speaking of the need for updates, there are a few areas that really show their age due to old/bad design. For example, the buffet on the Lido deck is organized in such a way that during popular times, lines will run out of the dining room, and there were a couple times with long waits at the buffet. We tried to avoid it when possible, but on both embarkation and debarkation days, as well as when returning from the short day in Key West, there weren't really many other options. Also, while a Guy's Burger was added during a past update, it's location causes some traffic jams and heavy crowds in the small doorway between pool area and buffet area. Finally, if you don't smoke, the casino is an unpleasant place to visit. The ventilation is poor and the entire promenade near the casino becomes full of smoke. Hopefully, this will be fixed in the overhaul, as the smoke on the Victory was worse than on most other ships we've been on. Unfortunately, the biggest issue we had on this cruise was an unusual overabundance of rude, ignorant, entitled fellow passengers. We had guests running and screaming down the hallways at all hours of the night, packs of children congregating/loitering on stairways with no parents or supervision to be seen, guests singing on their balcony, full volume, at sunrise. And finally, there were a few guests that were smoking on nearby balconies, making our balcony an unpleasant spot to just sit and relax. Balconies are all 'no smoking', but it seems that Carnival doesn't (can't?) enforce this. Food: We had 'Your Time' dining. We found the food to be very inconsistent. On the first night, we had great appetizers, but the main entrees were nothing special. On the 2nd night, lobster (extra cost) was over-cooked, creme brulee' was very undercooked, but on the 3rd night, almost everything was cooked to perfection. I know it's tough cooking for 3000 or so guests, but it seems they are missing a bit of quality control in the kitchen. Staff: Our cabin steward was OK - friendly enough, and responsive when we had problems, but on arrival, things were a bit dirty, with some trash still in cans, hair in a couple of drawers, and greasy finger prints on the walls. I suspect this is due to the rush to 'turn over' the ship for the next arriving passengers - but again, like with the food, it seems a bit more quality control is needed here. Our dining staff were, like the meals, inconsistent. We had one group of servers that were excellent (KUDOS to Dino, Dedik, and I Made - they knew our names, refilled drinks, and were pleasant to talk to), and then the next night, we had the worst shipboard service we've ever encountered from a different group of servers, bringing food and drinks very slowly, never checking on us afterwards. Fortunately, we were able to ask for the first night's service crew for our remaining dining visits, so that was appreciated. Ports/Excursions: Since we only had a few hours on Key West, we took the provided shuttle downtown and just strolled to the usual tourist spots (Sloppy Joe's, Southernmost Spot, Hemingway House...). But it was a whirlwind of a tour since time was so short. Most disappointing was how disorganized the return shuttle to the ship was. There was a line stretching down the road of passengers waiting to board the shuttle...and that was an hour before return time, so we lost additional time on this already short visit. Since we've visited Cozumel several times before, we tried the KunChe Mayan ball game (Pok-Ta-Pok) excursion for something different. The tour guide was friendly and informative, and the excursion was interesting, with a bit of culture, a bit of sports, and included meal. Debarkation: We found Carnival's new debarkation procedure to be a bit confusing. They now debark 2 different groups, somewhat consecutively, but it was a bit unclear how it was going to go until groups were called. In short, if you carry off your bags, you're called to leave based on muster station, in reverse order (so muster station A is last). Almost simultaneously, but starting a bit after the 'bag people', are the folks that put bags out the night before. You get called based on tags that you pick up outside of the casino the night before, with an early group and a late group. What wasn't clear is how the early group is called in relation to the muster station groups - and even after going through the process, we're still not quite sure what happened :-) but we had 'early' tags for the luggage assistance group, and we were called after 4 of the muster station groups were called. And when you get to the warehouse to find your bags, be sure to check the 'decoder' sign posted near the bags, because your bag might not be where you'd expect (ie: we were group 9, but our bags were in area 'D' with many other groups). The cruise was affordable for our party of ten especially we booked at the last minute. My party and I went on a 4 day cruise to Cozumel Mexico on the Carnival Valor; this is my third time cruising with Carnival cruise line and first time on the Valor. Other than the Cruise Director, Kevin, my family and I didn't have a good time and I didn't like the ship. The Valor seemed small, congested and cluttered and it could use some updates especially in the sports area, which was small and dated; also, they could use some new loungers because a lot were stained and need to be replaced. My party included kids, teens and young adults, and I found that there wasn't a lot of activities for the teens and kids. The pool area was crowded the majority of the time as well as the sports area, and the sports area closed at 5 pm everyday, "which didn't make much sense to me," so my kids really didn't do much. Some of the food was okay, especially the burgers from Guy's that was a hit for those that like burgers, but the other selection of food could have been better. The cabins were a decent size and considering that there was so many people on the ship the washrooms throughout the ship were kept clean so that was a positive. My only complaint with the cabin is one wasn't ready when we arrived. There were dirty linen left in the room and they didn't have the beds set up for the four individuals staying in the room. The bars stayed busy throughout the day, and a lot of time we had to wait a long time to be served. I wasn't crazy about the entertainment: the comedian we saw our first night there was not funny so we ended up leaving, I didn't enjoy the singers they didn't make it exciting and everything else just seemed boring. We planned for this trip for two months, but everyone was disappointment on the cruise and couldn't wait to go home. Read Less

My husband and I cruised royal Caribbean in the past and after finding their staff rude and condescending Carnival seemed like the logical choice when we were looking for a cruise line to take our kids on for our family vacation. So first let down was during embarkation, going through security my husband who is a former active marine gets stopped because he has an hollow bullet bottle opener on his keys. A gift I bought him because it was a bullet fired in Iraq during a former tour that had been custom made. Keep in mind this is hollow with a tip so dull even if it was fired it would bounce off its Target. I might be able to overlook this if we had not made it through security with a wine bottle opener that not only had a stainless steel corkscrew on it but also a 2 inch straight blade. So please tell me what the more dangerous thing ? So thanks for the appreciation for your veterans service. The towel policy is completely assanine , while most ships have crates of white towels for you to take from, Carnival makes you sign out every towel you take with your folio number , which is yet another 4 digit number for you to remember on top of your room number. AND ! If you are in a room that is ajoined to another room don't think you can check out and return towels to your ajoining room account where say your husband and 2 kids are assigned , no no no , your folio number only , doesn't matter your one big happy family , keep track of everything you sign out or prepare to be harrassed . But THE CHERRY ON TOP of everything had to be ..... Carnival makes it super nice and convenient to pre pay for things. Which we did with everything we possibly could ! Paid for the rooms in full ... Obviously that's required but we also paid our gratuities in full , paid for our excursions in full , all 4 of our kids bubbles packages as well as my husband's cheers package . We also placed a $15 limit on each of our children's sign and sail cards to visit the arcade or the candy shop or whatever they chose to do while enjoying their time on the ship. So the kids go to the arcade and spend their money and two days later my husband and I go to the arcade with them to play and everyone's cards are declined , so we proceed to guest services to see what's going on and much to our surprise our children have racked up somewhere around $600 worth of an arcade tab. So we ask what happened to the $15 limits and carnivals guest service response ? Why didn't you come to the service counter to verify the limits were properly set on the first day on board ? Well I don't know , how about the fact that the first 2 days on board the line for guest services was 2 miles long wrapping around the boat with a 2 hour minimum wait . And considering I took care of everything BEFORE I got on the boat my idea of vacation is not starting it off verifying that you did your job ! Everything else was taken care of , we had the tickets for our excursions , our kids were able to get their hearts desire of soda and my husband his fill of alcohol why would this not also be taken care of ? So what else did Carnival do or say ? Nothing and we got stuck with a $600 arcade bill , a pretty hearty mistake for us to have to cover , so thanks for that treat Carnival. The one good thing I have to say is about the dining team. We had a crew from the Philippines, the primary guy serving us was GERENE and he is fantastic ! Day 1 he had our kids drinks memorized as well as my husband's preferred drink beverage. He was always on top of everything , interacted with our kids so well , catered to our picky eater without batting an eye and knew everyone's names at the table by the second night. Truly the only people on board that made the cruise enjoyable and worth the money we spent. In the end I would rather pay Royal more money to have rude service people who do their jobs than pay carnival to have them completely fall short of impressive customer service or even mediocre service . I went on this cruise with a friend who was meeting up with family. As soon as we sw the ship, we could tell immediately that the exterior needed reneviation. Upon boarding it was more of the same...the seats in the dining lounge were old and the food options were not what I expected..not lot of attention given to the quality. Our stateroom was actually decent as we had a balcony. The way the ship is designed made it pretty weird to go from one side to the other as you had to take an elevator up to get to a lower floor (too complex to explain) Honestly if it wasn't for the ports of call and the people I was with, it would have been a less pleasing experience. The pool is not conducive for a ship with 2000 people and it is filled with salt water. I have only been on Royal Caribbean and comparing that boat to this one seems unfair but my experience on the Majesty of the Seas was incredible. The staff on the Elation overall was not as friendly and service committed as I would have expected so some intense training and overhaul is definitely necessary. There are 3 hot tubs which was a great plus! I don't think I will be traveling on this boat in the future..not sure about the other Carnival lines but I would have to do some serious research to determine if I would want to spend hard earned money on a future cruise. We were limited to choose between several 3 day cruises and this 5 day cruise because of our family conflicts. My husband and I chose this cruise as it was similarly priced compared to the 3 night cruises we had priced. I was a little nervous because the ship is older but read the reviews and and was reassured that it had recently been renovated. We were celebrating my husbands 50th birthday so we splurged a little and booked a junior suite. The cost was not drastically more than a balcony but it got us priority embarkation and disembarkation, which was important for us to get our flight home. At the time of booking we found a promo online which got us $200 drink credit which further offset the upgrade. We had early boarding and got on the ship immediately upon arrival. I wasn't expecting our cabin to be ready early, but they let us know in the terminal that we we could get right into the cabin. Our Room Attendent was great. Knew our names, towel animals, got us whatever we needed. We preordered water and soda which I thought was very useful to have in the cabin. We had 'your time dining' and found an amazing waiter at our first dinner (Mr.C) and we were happy to be able to request his section each meal we had in the dining room. One night I chose the Steakhouse Selection (surf and turf) and it was fantastic. Other than that the food was ok. Could not hold a candle to our RCCL honeymoon cruise (but that was 19 years ago and I think that is likely the case overall). We went to all the shows in the Makado Lounge and they were all top notch. We also went to all of the comedy shows (over 18 only) and really enjoyed them. The Cruise Director (Chris) was a lot of fun. He did a great job trying to include everyone in the activities, he was funny, knowledgeable and really seemed to care that everybody was having fun. The Love and Marriage show and Carnival Quest shows nearly had us in tears from laughing. There was so much to do on the ship we could not possibly fit it all in. There was a broad mix of people on the ship from all different backgrounds and places but the crowd was really respectful. I was very pleasantly surprised (and relieved). We enjoyed Princess Cays. The water was beautiful and there were no waves. You could rent floats and snorkel equipment. Lunch was provided. Really just a beach day. We tried to shop in Nassau but got pretty fed up with the pushy jewelry shop salespeople and it was disgustingly hot. Did the Native Quest excursion with new friends we met on the ship. That was a lot of fun. The guides, Leroy, Natasha and Nash made the group of nearly 30 strangers feel like one group. There were some games and a lot of laughs. Some beach time was included but not lunch ( 11:30-4pm) so have a nice breakfast or plan to bring a snack. We had no plans for Freeport and there is nothing at the port (besides a handful of typical souvenir shops). Once we docked the cruise line announced a few 'last minute' excursions that they put together. We took the Beach at Leisure tour for just $19.99 each. Included bus to and from the beach, chair, umbrella and Taino beach access. It was a nice beach with some small waves. Access to rent water toys, etc. there was a bar/restaurant with bathrooms. Same location as the VIP Beach Day without drinks and food included. Beach stay was only 2 hours, but that was plenty to enjoy. I would definitely cruise the Elation again. Not sure I would go back to Bahamas anytime soon. The only other thing I would mention... I reserved Chefs Table a few weeks in advance. I got an email that it would be confirmed once we were on the ship. The 2nd day I checked with guest services because there was no notification in our cabin. They told us that they had called the cabin to confirm and that my husband had cancelled it. This was absolutely not the case. Our phone never rang. They said they would look into it but never followed up with us so on the 3rd day we checked back in. They repeated the same thing. We told them they were mistaken. Later they called and said it was full and we were waitlisted for it. As it turned out, we passed the library on the way to dinner that night (he Nassau night) and there were 2 empty seats but we had not been called. I chose not to let it get to me but I will mention it in my review for them. ALSO, we got double charged for the only 2 purchases we made at Princess Cays. 1 pair of water shoes and 1 round of drinks. It's a good idea to check your account statement as some purchases are reconciled when the crew gets back on the ship (water shoes) and the receipt printer at the bar was on the fritz so they hand wrote a receipt for this. It would not have been a big deal but we had to visit guest services 3 times to have them research the charges before they finally took them off our account. So I wasn't too thrilled with the guest service desk. But they were not a good representation of the rest of the staff. Read Less

We chose the Dream because we enjoyed sailing on her out of New Orleans and got a casino offer at a pretty good rate out of Galveston which is where we live. Embarkation was simple and quick. It was really nice that the muster was indoors since it was mid August. Our stateroom was on Lido forward. This meant a lot of walking (I had a knee injury and had to use a cane), but we chose this stateroom so that's on us. The room was clean and tidy, but we didn't see much of our steward. Room was cleaned once per day during dinner hour. This is a far cry from the service Carnival provided in the past, though it's no fault of the steward. He did his best. Smoking areas on 5 and 11 received no bar service. They were very small areas with no access to pool nor whirlpools. Smokers were confined to the very small areas and not allowed to use sun loungers. Deck 5 smoking area was blocked off about half the cruise. Deck 11 smoking was right behind the stack and black oil spots were all over our clothes. Casino area was of course full of smokers. Where else could they go? Carnival makes a good bit of money off of smokers. STOP TREATING THEM LIKE TRASH!! One other thing about the casino...there was a drawing held one night and we were to receive an entry for every 100 points we had. We each had around 1300 points. We realized as we watched the names roll around on the screen that neither of our names were there. That didn't give us a very good feeling. Steakhouse. What happened here? This used to be a very nice experience with yummy food and beautiful composed plates. Now you get a piece of meat and roasted tomato dropped on your plate. Why this change??? Terrible. Raise the price if you need to, but don't just ruin it by destroying the ambience! Main dining Food mediocre as usual, but the service was impeccable. Yaco and his assistants were awesome. Yaco served drinks at the back pool on shore days and was the only server to come up to no man's land (smoking area). Thanks Yaco! Crew They were as awesome as they could be. They are overworked and treated like crap by many cruisers. We always treat them well, enjoy talking with them and tip extra. They are the only really enjoyable part of this cruise. Entertainment Violinists were good. Otherwise really lacking. I know you can get better entertainment. Finally We've all seen the carnival experience go downhill over the years. I understand keeping costs down to allow more people the opportunity to cruise. I've never cuised another line so have nothing to compare it to. I've always loved the cruising experience til now. It was the first time I've wanted to go home from a cruise. If you smoke, be warned you'll be treated by the cruise line as a lower class citizen. I won't say that I'll never cruise again, but right now I sure don't want to. Sad. Read Less

First off let me say that I am not an avid cruiser. This was my 5th cruise in a 20 year span. My family and I have always cruised Royal Caribbean and decided to give Carnival a shot since the port is only 3.5 hours from our home. To begin with I had a lot of questions about the Carnival process and came here to Cruise Critic for help and it paid off. Learning the little tricks of the ship and shore excursions from past guest definitely added to our experience. Let me start with the embarkment process. First you will arrive at the port and the folks there will unload your vehicle for you and take your luggage onboard for you. Make sure you tip the guy a few bucks! Then you will be directed to park. Be prepared to walk about 200 yards to the main building for check in. Not a bad walk at all. Have your Birth Certificate and Driver's License in your hand. A passport is great but not necessary. Once in that building you move pretty quick. They will then direct you to the charter buses outside to take you to the boarding ramp. Tip the bus driver a few bucks! Once you are on the boarding ramp you will be directed to the security baggage check line. You will then place your carry on onto a scanner machine where the friendly security folks will run it through their machine. After that you are on your way! The total time my wife and I spent at the port was about 25 minutes total and we did not purchase "Faster to The Fun" from Carnival. Once onboard you will notice friendly/Inviting staff that will answer any question. Your stateroom will not be available to 1:30 so head up to Deck 9 and grab lunch and try everything! Be aware that the tea is unsweet and the cups are very small. Once our room was available we headed up and settled in to our cabin. Our cabin number was 11008. It was on the Serenity Deck level which is adult only. Our cabin steward was Emerson and he was awesome. He made our stay comfortable and answered every question we had. Our room was a balcony suite and worth the extra money. The bed was very, very comfortable and I am very picky about where I sleep. The pillows were vey soft and big. The room itself was bigger than others we have stayed in on RC and perfect for two adults. The bathroom was big as well. The soap that is supplied for guest on the ship does not lather well so bring your own. In all our cabin was great with exception of the soap so all is good so far. After we got settleed we headed out to explore the ship and found ourselves at the Serentity Spa. Big mistake! The staff there were friendly and took my wife and I on a tour of the spa. Big mistake. They were boarderline pushy about selling their products and it detered my wife and I from ever going back in there even though we had free spa treatment vouchers given to us because we booked a Serenity Suite Room. On to the food! The Fahrenheit 555 steakhouse is the best. You will not regret it. The steaks are amazing. It cost my wife and I $38 a piece to eat there and it is a 4 course meal! The cheese cake is huge and unlike anything Ive ever eaten in the cheesecake world. Amazing! It was so good, we ate there twice. The ships buffet on deck 9 was good but Guys Burgers was great. I ate alot of Guys Burgers and they are free. The breakfast buffet is good and has just about everything you could ask for. The coffee is below average and the juices provided were average but satisfiying. On tuesday night my wife and I tried the Main Dining room. They seated us right away but that was it. We sat there for about 10 minutes and that was it. We got up and left. We then went up to the Cucina del Capiitano restaurant. It was great. The best Italian food we have ever eaten. Now for the entertainment on the cruise. The shows were good and the cast were above average performers. Adam the cruise director was great and James kept everyone laughing. However Ty was rude at times with guest and at one point told a lady that came in the wrong door to never do that again. He told her this over the PA system and made that lady look like a child. She reacted to his lecture alot better than I would have. That was totally uncalled for on Ty's behalf. Very unprofessional. Onto excurisions. Half Moon Cay was the best!! Better than any beach we have ever seen. Make sure you get off the boat early to get the best chairs but if you dont, no worries they have plenty. You do not need towels from the boat. They provide them on the island. The sand there is unbelievable and the water is perfect. The most amazing beach ever! Did I mention amazing enough about this beach? Bring your own snorkle gear and an inflatable float. It will save you money and you will have plenty of room to just float around and enjoy the sun. No beach that RC or Disney has can compare to Half Moon Cay! Now about Nassau. My wife and I booked the Blue Lagoon VIP Beach Day. It was just ok. The beach was rocky, very dangerous if you are elderly or someone with previous health injuries like neck or back surgery The staff on Blue Lagoon were very nice and attended to our every need. The VIP excursion came with snorkle gear and bottled water all day. The lunch buffet was really good and the staff was was very friendly. Also if you decide to do this exersion bring water shoes and towels! YOU WILL NEED WATER SHOES!!!!! Very rocky beach. Our overall experience was good with Carnival. The only problems we saw that Carnival could do much better at is the muster drill that happens pre-sail and exiting the boat for excursions. It is organized chaos and causes stairway roadrage with guest. Guest are literally shoulder to shoulder and nobody can move. if you dont like confined spaces wait till the crowd clears to head out. The disemarkment process was well organized. You have a choice of carrying your own luggage off or checking your luggage. If you can carry your stuff then do it but if you pack like my wife, check your luggage. The process is super easy and they will call you by tag numbers depending on the tag number you pick the night before disemarkment. No worries. If you check your bags, they will be waiting on you in the building where the US Customs Security team await. The US Customs Officers are friendly and do a great job getting you through the line fairley quickly. Once you get through customs, you and your luggage will then be directed to the charter buses to take you back to the parking lot. If your luggage is heavy, the porters there will carry them for you to the buses. Tip them! When you get to the buses they will load your luggage on trailers to carry them back to the parking lot. When you exit the buses at the parking lot, your luggage will be right there waiting on you. No worries. Then off you go back to the real world. We really enjoyed our first Carnival experience and will probably do it again. Hope this helped. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it left out of Charleston. All of the waitstaff, housekeeping and employees were very friendly and helpful. There are a lot of activities to do on board however there are too many people. We were never able to get in the pools because they were always packed full of people and finding a chair was nearly impossible too. We had to wait several times for someone to get up before we could sit down. We did enjoy our balcony room for some quiet. Dinner in the dining room was always nice. At our first stop we were very excited to go snorkeling but when we went to check in, they told us it was canceled because of rough waters. It was then too late to get on another excursion because they were sold out. I don’t know why Carnival did not notify us before we left the ship, so we could try to get another excursion. We went swimming and then attempted to eat at the barbecue on the Island, but it was very crowded and hot. We were very disappointed and went back to the ship. Nassau was our next stop and half of our excursion was canceled again! We were to go on the sail and bus tour, but the sailing part was canceled because of rough waters. Other excursions went out on the water but ours did not. We ordered that one through Priceline. The bus tour was good, but it was disappointing again. Boarding and unboarding the ship was very well organized. The drinks are very watered down and ordering a drink took a long time because Carnival puts too many people on the ship and it was always crowded. Carnival does not pay the waitstaff and they depend on the gratuity at the end of the cruise, so please consider this when deciding on gratuity for them. Our waiters worked very hard and were always friendly. I don’t know why Carnival doesn’t pay them, but they should. Read Less

Had we only known that was only the beginning of the problems with this stateroom. Anyone considering cruising on the Carnival Vista should be aware this ship has multiple problems associated with the spa so if that's one of the "features" that attracted you to this cruise you will be well beyond disappointed. Along with the sky ride being broken the entire trip, the aroma therapy room also being broken the entire trip body sprayers in Cloud nine were also inoperable. The food and entertainment were great but if you value your sleep,rest and relaxation DO NOT book anything remotely close to cabin 11236. The main attraction for choosing Vista was the sky ride. This ship went out of a service for almost 2 weeks to fix the propulsion issue, why did they not service the sky ride(first problem)? There were 5 adults and 4 young adults (17-21) only 1 liked Vista. This was cruise number six for 4 of us with Carnival. Embarkation and disembarkation went well, cabin(great), service(great). The second problem we en counted was no air conditioning as soon as we stepped unto the ship. It felt like outside. There were fans on the floor all the way to the lobby. The elevator ride to the 10th floor was no better. The 10th floor lobby and the cabin had air conditioning. The cabin did not cool as well as other ships (Breeze,Magic,Freedom) the thermostat has no digital readout, only red bars for heat and blue bars for cold. The third problem was the minimal air conditioning in the buffet(Lido). The middle was ok, but on either end near the pools you could fell the heat. The fourth problem was the temperature of the food in the buffet, it was always too low and the choices of food could have been better. Thank goodness for Guy's Burger Joint!! This ship also lost power while we were away our 3 rd excursion trapping my elderly in-laws in the elevator. They had to walk 2 flight of stairs to their room. For the amount of money spent on this ship it should not be having these problems on a continuous basis. It's like this ship was built with no plans or means to fix something if it breaks. We always hate to leave the ship on the final day but we were happy to leave today. We are also planning another Carnival cruise next year but not on Vista. Read Less

I chose this cruise because I was going with a group of other couples as a couples/family trip. The experience was ok for the most part. This was our 1st cruise bc we mostly fly to our destination of choice. When we got on board we had a hard time finding our room, bc again this was our 1st cruise, the guys at the entrance way asked if we needed help and we told them our room # and one guy just pointed us to the elevators. So when we got on we noticed on the outside there were letters but the inside there were numbers. So we went back and motioned for him to come show us how it worked and again he just pointed to the elevators. So luckily one of the couples we were with showed us how the numbers corresponded with the letters. Ok minor all is well. We go to our rooms to get settled and put our luggage away, when we get a knock on the door and a few seconds later some worker is walking in, talk about invasion of privacy and this happened on several occasions. So then we get finished with the safety review and head to get drinks ( cheers package was already purchased) and food. The guy at the bar seemed very annoyed that we were ordering drinks bc granted it was pretty busy, but he seemed that way throughout the trip. So again we let it go and we started having a good time. Now let's fast forward to the time where I asked for extra cheese on my Guys burger and asked for it to be melted on the grill instead of a cold piece of cheese being thrown on burger and they guy literally rolled his eyes. WOW! So now we get to the end of our 4 day voyage and we get a bill with an additional $55.96 x's 2 for additional "gratuities for your team members". Then once we get home we checked our acct and noticed we were charged for the cheers package twice a total of over $1000 for DRINKS when we have a receipt for $537 total. So bc we were told there would be several holds on our acct we waited to see if the other charges would fall off, they did not so I called Carnival Cruises Customer Service and was informed that one of the charges of over $500 would come off bc it was a hold but the additional $111.92 was there to stay bc we didn't stop by Guest Services to advise them we didn't want to pay the additional for tips. Mind you in the cheers package you are already charged 18%=$82 EACH PERSON for gratuities and now we were charged an EXTRA $111.92. This is a complete rip off and we will NEVER book with Carnival again and will advise any and everyone we know who is thinking of booking Carnival not to do so. The customer service was not all that great and Carnival had the nerve to charge for additional gratuities, what a joke. I am completely not satisfied with this experience at ALL. Read Less

Ship itself: Very clean, some reviews I read said that it was dirty but this was definitely not the case. It can be a little confusing the first day finding your way around the ship. Our cabin was at the back of the ship but our dining room was at the very front of the ship in the Lincoln Dining Room. My best advice to get across the boat is to go down to floor 2 where you can walk all the way down either side of the boat without any doors or barriers. Cabin: I went with my girlfriend and 2 other friends. King size bed and two bunk beds. Obviously it is a little close quarters but we didn't care because we barely spent any time in the room. Shower pressure is surprisingly strong. The water can be SCALDING hot so be careful getting in. Tv in the room with very basic channels. I liked the channels that just showed cameras on the ship. Dining: It is so awesome to order 5 appetizers just for the hell of it. There is a $10 corkage fee to bring a bottle of wine at dinner which we did each night. We were at the Lincoln dining room. Every dinner was great BESIDES the Elegant Dinner. That one was just a mess. It took 30 minutes for a server to even get our drinks. But I kinda understand because EVERYONE went to dinner that night. We had the anytime dining which I strongly recommend. I wish there was more stuff open after 9 PM. It's pretty much just Pizza or room service. Guy's burger joint is amazing. The American Deli had some good sandwiches. Room service is free until 10 PM from a select menu. Cheers Program: Highlight of the trip for sure. My friends and I were drunk the whole time. 15 drinks a day which sounds hard but I capped out each night. The rum drinks have at least 2 shots in them which is great. Each day there is a daily special drink at the bar and its a mixture of lots of alcohol and fruity drinks basically. The drink servers are awesome. Dede from Indonesia was my hero. He would find us all over the ship at shows. He was the absolute best. I already miss him. Entertainment: Loved the casino, nightclub, comedy shows, karaoke, game shows, trivia, all of that. The main performance shows every night in the Ivanhoe Theater are honestly terrible. Kevin the cruise director is great but there's a group of eight 25-30 year olds who have a dancing and singing routine each night and it is very boring and cringe worthy. Skip this if you can. We went the first night and did not go back. I want to mention the casino again. SO much fun at noon and 3 AM it doesn't matter the time. Blackjack tables are rowdy. Excursions: I've been to Cozumel before. This time our group stayed on the boat and just drank by the pool. So relaxing. Absolutely nobody is on the boat during that time so no lines for food or at the bar. Plenty of pool seats. Embarkation and Debarkation was so smooth. Debarkation advice is if you are not walking out by 7:30, you might as well stay on the boat until 10am. from 8-10 it is just a massive heard of cattle leaving the ship and it can get pretty hot from that many people close together. Stay up on the pool deck and take some last pictures and then around 10 you can leave and there will be no line. If you need guest services, just call the number from your room phone because that line can be extremely long. I think that's about it. PLEASE Don't lose your sail and sign card. There is no need to have any credit card or anything on you. Keep cash for tips and your sail and sign card and that is all you need. This ship was old and had a negative history. ( fire,arrest and even a death ) So in order to save the ship they had to change the name and redo. Big problem was they didn't think it all through or just didnt care) It was a smaller older ship. The corrections made them more money and passengers more annoyed They did away with laundry rooms on most floors and added more rooms. They made everything we like smaller! They added more dining choices BUT many are for a price! They took away much of the dining space ( free) and left people waiting in ridiculousy long lines for food... The pools were literally standing room only ! Serenity did not have their own pool either. SMOKING!!!!!!!!!!!! I smelt smoke pretty much everywhere. I know this is huge issue for many but one would think remodeling would help things but it certainly did not. Carnival ships are set up the worst of all ships when it comes to avoiding second hand smoke,, In order to get to certain areas you have to walk through the casino which is ALWAYS disgustingly full of smoke! Not only that but the area is open to all the floors of the atrium so the smoke hits everyone! Constantly seeing people walking around with their faces covered. They have very very little food for kids and it was an issue just to get milks and juices. unless the go to the camp carnival, there is nothing for them to do. We wanted to take my daughter and some of her friends on a short cruise as a graduation present. We chose Carnival because it was an economical way to travel. Meals and entertainment were included in the price of the trip. Plus, it departed from Charleston SC, which is close to our house, so we didn’t have to pay for airfare. We have happily and satisfactorily cruised many times with Royal Caribbean, Windstar, Regent and Seabourn. If you are looking for an enjoyable and relaxing vacation don’t take a Carnival cruise. Carnival Sunshine has a spring break meets beer commercial atmosphere. The staff is overworked trying to clean up after all the obnoxious drunk cruisers. We were the 1st tender to beautiful Half Moon Cay and the beach was stunningly beautiful! We were the last tender off the Island and as we retraced our steps back to the tender the beach was literally trashed. I wish I had taken a picture. It was as if somebody took a dumpster filled with beer cans and empty drinking cups and scattered them on the beach! This is not an exaggeration. We ended up paying extra and eating in their specialty restaurants (very good) every night because the dining room was average and stressful. We booked spa appointments (very good) to avoid the crowds in the main areas. Thankfully our room was big and had a triple long balcony so we had peace there. Check in and check out was shockingly easy and organized. Carnival Sunshine is like a floating raunchy dirty hotel with a seedy nightclub and a crappy all you can eat buffet attached. If that is what you are looking for in a vacation then Carnival Sunshine is for you. NEVER AGAIN! Read Less

All the staff all around did great and always had smiles on there face and ready to serve whenever! Our dining room staff also did great I believe the supervisor we had named Ariel and his 3 other staff members did great always made sure we had food and drinks and they always had a smile on there face also all around great guys! I’m you like bland carbs that taste less me cardboard then this cruise is for you. Only decent food is Guys Burgers. Nightly dining room meals are horrible. Food arrives cold and has no taste. Even the fried Shrimp was bad! Breakfast is no different.cold pancakes, waffles and lets not forget the hair in the hash brown! If you are planning on gambling know that the casino is full of smokers! It’s horrible just having to pass by it. This is not my first cruise. This is a 7 day cruise and when compared to Princess cruise that I was in for the same amount of time, there’s nothing in common other than they are both floating in water. I’ve been told that Princess and Carnival are owned by the same company and it’s very hard to believe.This Carnival cruise has been like a cruise for the poverty stricken compared to the Princess Cruise that was definitely and huge step up. Oh and let me not forget to mention the sewer smell! It’s terrible! Our cabin is on the second floor and the smell has continually been present in the hallway. Food was absolutely horrible and I really miss the ability to create your own salad from the salad bar (buffet) like on the dream. Guys burger joint went from being good to just okay. Dining room food horrible and if you wanted an edible steak, it costs $20 extra. Flat iron steak sucks! Made reservations in MAY, and had a confirmation email in writing from bonsai teppanyaki and when we showed up for our reservation, there was no record, nor did we have any place to eat that night......... email or not....... screw you.......lord forbid we were going to eat the rancid left overs in the buffet!!!!!! Pizza and ice cream were good. Guys pig and anchor, was good when it was free for lunch.....would NOT pay for it. Seafood shack had good fish and chips for $6......we were so hungry we were desperate for decent food. Any questions please ask. They also need to have a separate elevator for the handicap and scooters. my mother had to spend most of her time in the room because of the lack of working elevators on the ship.Our stateroom was only cleaned once day after asking for twice a day am/pm. Food was not that great. Mike the cruise director was excellent he made the ship experience a little better. Also they need to start breakfast at 6am instead of 7:30 some folks get up early. Guest services employees need to be a little more friendly to there guest and not have attitudes. I have cruised on Carnival several times this was the worst. Stayed in 7458 which is an aft-facing Havana balcony. This ship is so immense, having access to the Havana-guests only pool deck was a vacation-saver. Lido pools were constantly jammed, but most I ever counted in the Havana pool was 14 one sea day. Some different shows on the Horizon which is a nice change of pace from the repeats in the rest of the fleet. However, the volume is ear-splitting. I complained a few times to no avail. One Liquid Lounge manager said they check the decibels every night. That may be true, but they are setting the volume way to high. You can't even understand the lyrics from the singers. It was so bad, my ears are still ringing three days after our cruise ended. Our itinerary was the 6-day from Miami with stops in Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel. Ocho Rios is kind of dumpy. We did not do an excursion but wandered over the Margaritaville (which is just as lame as all the other locations). Touts descended on us nonstop, with some even calling to us through the fence in the port area. We stepped onto our balcony during docking and it already reeked of ganja. Our Cozumel excursion was canceled due to lack of interest: Elite Champagne Sail & Snorkel. Kind of surprising as there were three Carnival vessels in port that day. Pretty much stayed in the Havana area. Lido deck was jam packed with blasting music from a DJ, and a bunch of idiots who brought their own speakers. The cacophony was too much to handle. Elevators work fine if you use them correctly (press button once for each member of your party). Problem was that people in general are morons, and would just press the button once or just ask if a car was going up or down and jump on without pressing a button. Smart elevators, dumb people. Some crew was great. especially Havana and Alchemy bar staff. Atrium bar staff was efficient but not at all friendly. Piano bar player Dara was excellent, but you had to tolerate her playing her own stuff and constantly reminding people to tip her (which I don't blame her for, because the hayseed crowd seemed to not understand the concept of how a piano bar works). We usually cruise in the fall or winter, but were joining friends who wanted to go on this particular date. We are platinum cruisers, so embarkation was quick and our room was ready when we boarded at 11:30a.m. I won't repeat what most others have said about the ship itself, but will comment on our experience this cruise. It was very hot and humid, as to be expected, everywhere. The chair hogs were out again in full force which is disappointing especially those in the shade. Chairs were empty for hours with towels. This also happened in Grand Turk with the free chairs. We went to St. Maarten, we didn't take a tour, just hung out at the port this trip. The shop keepers were annoying, we really didn't shop here because of that. A young couple with a child were stung by a jelly fish at the beach in port. All were ok. Next stop was St. Kitts. We took a tour with the ship which was great (10 Best of St. Kitts). I would recommend this tour. San Juan, we didn't tour here, just stayed at the port (tstorms hit shortly after we got off ship). Last stop was Grand Turk. We went to the beach at the port and enjoyed our day there. We've been to all of these ports numerous times, so we didn't do much mostly because of the heat and humidity. We ate in the dining room most nights (6pm). Service and food was amazing. We did have lunch on the Lido, was ok. The Deli was a bust...hard to get service, long lines. Breakfast on the Lido had long lines as well. I don't think I've seen so many long lines, maybe the time of year as we don't usually cruise when school is out. Dress code in the dining room was not enforced, not that I cared, but lots of shorts and tshirts, flip flops...not cruise casual and formal night many wore shorts and tshirts into the dining room. We didn't attend too many shows, they were just ok. We liked the Red Frog Pub, the Sea Monkeys Band on Deck 5 and the Lobby Bar. The entertainment there was pretty good. Simon London was the cruise director, very entertaining for sure. There was always lots to do if you wanted to be busy or entertained. We had a cabin on the Riviera Deck, Inside. It was good, clean and our room steward was great. No complaints except for the late night doors slamming and kids running in the hall and yelling. The cruise was nice, but there were alot of rude people, kids running through the halls late at night and long lines for food. I don't think I would cruise again in the summer and especially not when school is out. Read Less

We chose this ship because it was going to Roatan, our favorite port stop. This was our 7th cruise and 2nd trip on the Breeze. The ship itself is starting to show her age. While we traveled on it they were touching up paint (much needed), and replacing the outdoor tv (missing many pixels). The staff and service onboard was excellent; enjoyed chatting with many of the crew. The ship is lacking allot of entertainment if you have teenagers with you. There were some sporting tournaments; however, they were geared towards adults only. At night you’d see hordes of teens with security not far behind. The buffet was lack luster- same thing for breakfast every morning, and no hash browns at all. The blur iguana is always an excellent choice for lunch and or breakfast. The pizza did not disappoint as I believe they have the best tasting out of any line. The embarkation process was very smooth; however, disembarkation was very poor and slow, compared to other lines we’ve been on. Read Less

We booked the cruise for end of summer, we had to stand in line at guest services 4 times the first day, because our cards wouldn't work for purchases or as our room keys! So our first day we stood in line at guest services for over 1.5 hours trying to get keys to work. At supper we were on anytime dining, so we went to dinner in dining room, we were greeted and seated. After 20 minutes, I asked a waiter, who would be taking care of our table? He immediately said I will send someone over shortly. If anytime dining is a problem for the staff, then do away with it! We didn't ask for anytime dining, that's what we were given. If carnival wants the vista to be there flagship, they missed the bar!! They have tried to include everything and left out the basics. An example of this, the casino is on the fourth floor, and there is not a mens restroom. The casino dealer told me the restroom was on 3rd level for the men. Makes no sense. If you have a womens restroom go ahead and spend the money for a mens restroom too. Again Thursday evening we are standing in line at guest services, card is not working again. They have our credit card on file, all charges are to go to the credit card, and guest services said our card is inactive, but she didn't know why? Guest services reactivated our card, and now we can make purchases again. Guest services has been a nightmare!! Supper on Thursday night, I ordered lobster tail which was an additional $20, the waiter brought me 2 lobster tails, I cut into the first one and took a bite. It was like a rubber band, overcooked!! I informed the waiter that it was not good, he kindly took it away, and explained that I would not be charged the $20 for the lobster. I thanked him for not charging me. Generally the table is cleared and then dessert menus are brought, not tonight! My wife was still eating her supper, and here comes the dessert menu. I know this was because I returned the overcooked lobster. Highlight of the cruise for us was the comedy show on Thursday evening and Mr. Sanchos at cozumel. Mr sanchos is not a carnivasl excursion, but is worth every penny. JiJi Chinese restaurant is a great place to eat! Cost like 15 per person, but you get way more food, than you can eat. Unfortunately, we have already booked the vista for December. Hopefully we will have a better experience in December. Read Less

What went well... 1. We loved the breakfast in the Horizon Restaurant. It was always hot and good variety from skillet pancakes, to french toast to scrambles and much more. We only ate at Lido deck one time for breakfast. 2. The pasta bar at Cucina was Excellent. 3. The servers in the Lido area, main dining room, etc. were phenomenal...always checking to see if you needed anything. Our stateroom steward Ron was excellent, very nice and genuinely asked how our day was going and remembered our names. We were in Room 7451. 4. The shows were GREAT in the Liquid Lounge and we loved the Havana Bar area with live Latin music. This area was open to the public after 7pm for whirlpool, etc. The violinists were great in the main lobby area. 5. We went as a couple with no kids and really liked the Serenity Adults only area on the 15th deck. 6. Embarkation and debarkation was super smooth and the best we've experienced. 7. Kyndall Fire the cruise director was very engaging and hilarious. 8. Pictures are all digital on the ship instead of the huge wall of paper pics that take forever to find. You can also see pictures on your TV in your room, and your balance. 9. Our aft ship state room was very nice and cozy. 10. We loved Roatan and Belize ports of call. We didn't get off the ship in Cozumel - we'd already been there 3-4 times. So we made it a lazy day. 11. Guys Burger Joint...yum.....Lido Deck was OK......nothing spectacular. Main Dining Room food was pretty good overall. 12. We met so many nice people and fellow cruisers and people were genuinely nice to each other..not all, but most. 13. Ship layout can be very confusing but you'll find your way. 14. Comedy shows were hilarious - we had Caroline Picard, Billy D. Washington, William Lee Martin and Dan Chopin and we went to the 18+ shows. Too funny! What was tricky.... 1. Lots of walking the stairs from slow or full elevators. 2. The 24 hour pizza would get crowded fast after dinner was over. They make it fresh so if the line is long, be patient because it's quite yummy. 2. Too many kids in the whirlpools and main pools. It was kinda ridiculous that kids are everywhere..........OMG. We didn't bother to do any main pools just the Serenity adults only whirlpools. 3. The view in the Main show area was bad in some areas due to polls all over the place. Get there early for a good seat but shows were AWESOME> 4. The smoke in the casino was terrible. We had to walk through it to get to the comedy show area and my clothes smelled like smoke. Beware! 5. Elevators were hot most of the time. Be warned. 6. The spa seminar we went to on accupuncture was not a seminar - they asked us to come back at 4:30 and we spoke to DR. Vu who couldn't answer our questions about fertility and asked how do you spell ovary and follicle. WOW. We signed up for a manicure since we got a $50 gift card but we got there and we were asked to come back since they were 'backed up' and were told there was a $7 tip. We just cancelled. What needs improvement.... 1. Carnival needs to be more strict and enforce the 'no reserving seats' policy, especially in the Comedy Club. One girl tried to reserve 10 seats for her family when the doors opened and she was telling people these are taken.....and it was happening during the whole cruise. All people need to do is come together as a group...simple as that. 2. Too many kids............I repeat, too many kids.........some of them ran and stomped at 12am and would push all buttons on the elevator for fun. Our next cruise will be in fall when there behinds are in school. 3. Blue Iguanna was disappointing because they served stale taco shells on one of the days. I didn't go back after that. 4. Not sure if Carnival can monitor this but in Belize, we did the Calypso Train Tour and it was $42 but we got it for $39 after Carnival guest services said it was sold out. The guys in port were selling for $25 but we found out they didn't take people to the train at all but to some non A/C van that almost ran out of gas. Read Less

This was our fourth cruise, the third one with Carnival. During embarkation, the baggage screener threw out my empty water bottle, while she allowed water bottles for all the other 5 family members with me. That started off my cruise on the wrong footing. Guest Services: There was always a long line at guest services. I had to wait more than an hour. For the most part, they had only two people at the desk, at times only one, especially on the first day of the cruise when they would be expecting more guests at the guest services desk. Carnival Hub App: The app is great if it works. I paid extra for the ability to use the Chat feature to be able to communicate with the rest of my family. The chat did not work couple of times. When reported to the guest services, all they could say was that they have made a note of it. How difficult would it be for the technical staff to keep a tab on something as simple as an app and ensure that it is working at all times especially when guests depend on it to communicate Cabin: Cabin was great and the housekeeping crew did a good job. However if the lid on the toilet was kept open it would stink like urine all the time. Dining: The food variety on the Lido deck was mediocre, especially the desserts. The Sensation room dining staff seems to be overworked or busy to interact with guests. Some wait staff were simply rude or uninterested,, whereas others were great.So it was a mixed bag. Entertainment : Entertainment was so-so. The cast and performances lacked quality. Considering the ethnic diversity in the demographics of the guest, the main entertainment cast lacked diversity. Some of the fun staff were rude and acted more like celebrities than fun staff. Port and Shore excursions: The saving grace for us was the number of ports on this itinerary and the shore excursions which were good. Overall, other than the ports and excursions it was a very mediocre experience. We had cruised last year on a different cruise liner to Alaska. We did not feel like leaving that cruise ship, but on this one we were so looking forward to go back home. Read Less

This review is for the Carnival cruise ship The Dream. The staff were super nice but could not understand or speak english very well. The ship was begining to show its age and had several rust spots on the balcony . But the worst part was the unkept look of the entire ship. All of the windows were dirty and had streaks of dirt that looked as if it had been there a while. The carpets in the hallways were stained and looked in need of replacement. The balcony sateroom that we were assigned to was 2 doors down from the exit hall. A large family made it a meeting point every day at least 3 times a day. They would yell up and down the hall for their other family members and scream and yell at their children as they disciplined them. This happened several times a day. Right after we embarked our steward stopped at our door to deliver complimentary water bottles. She knocked and banged on the door and stated that she had complintary water to which I replied not now. She then used her pass key to let her self in. Imagine my surprise when the door opened and I was standing there with no clothes on and my husband was in the bathroom. There seemed to be a lot of confusion in the dinning room also, as most of the crew did not understand or speak English very well. However, our main waiter Walter did his best to try and smooth things over. The Food....The Mahi Mahi was over cooked and was replaced with Salmon that was undercooked. While the food was very well presented it lacked a lot in taste. The overall cleanliness of things was discorning. There was often drinks and ice spilled in the elevators and crew members that were looking the other way at the girls as they were cleaning the plexiglass of the stairs. Overall we were very disapointed in our cruise. We were a repeat customer but have decided that next time we will choose a different ship and propably choose a different cruise line. Read Less
