Having sailed on sister ship Riviera in 2018 we were confident in what to expect on Marina. Excellent service, wonderful ports and great food and spirits. Marina did not disappoint. The ship is small enough that you can easily move around, yet large enough to have multiple entertainment and dining options. My wife likes the shows, I enjoy making an evening contribution to the casino. It is nice that they still have a craps table. Many ships have done away with them. We enjoyed the specialty restaurants and Le Reserve. The main dining room is beautiful, we really enjoyed a peaceful breakfast in the MDR. The buffet option can be crowded. We embarked in Denmark visiting; Estonia, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia and disembarked in Sweden. St. Petersburg was fantastic. We hired a private guide and driver through TJ travel. Excellent choice. Slatvana Andrusheko, was encyclopedic in her knowledge of Russia. In another life she was a Russian History professor. It really made the trip extraordinary. We had her and the driver for 2 full days. It is a big plus having a driver ready to pick you up to take you on to the next site. Plus they have already acquired all entry passes to the venues you must see. She took us to local restaurants and markets. We got a real feel for St. Petersburg. Our first port, Warnemunde, Germany was a real surprise. Very nice summer vacation spot with a real small town appeal. Take the train to Rostock if you are inclined, very easy trip. We rented a car on the Island of Bornholm, Denmark. A very nice day drive. In many of the ports, we just jumped on the Hop-On - Hop Off bus for a great city tour. Helsinki was really a highlight too. Our cabin was spacious and very accommodating. No complaints about the food or drinks. We do purchase a drink package and find it to be a good value. We didn't book any of our tours with the ship, we found better value doing it privately. We are also a bit more adventurous and enjoy hunting out different sights. The only "negative" we found on the ship was my wife wanted to participate in the on-board art class, but this ship had more children on then usual and they were crowding the art class. Not a big deal. We do enjoy Oceania because it is primarily all adults. We love children, but we don't miss the screaming, crying and running. The literature and website is quite clear in this is primarily adults. No climbing walls, no slides, no big screen TV, no Mickey and Minnie. As a grandparent, we have taken our grandchildren on cruises, but more age appropriate lines. All in all, Oceania met our expectations. We put a deposit down on another cruise in 2020. Read Less

We chose the cruise for its itinerary. We wanted to got to French Polynesia and had never cruised across the South Pacific with such exotic locations as the Pitcarin Islands and Easter Island. The flight over allowed us to visit one daughter & family in California out the way over and ended in New York where a second daughter lives. A bonus was a scheduled stop in Norfolk with even more family. Past cruises have shown us that Oceania really takes great care of its guests in the top suites. We were booked in a penthouse but wanted an Oceania Suite. About 3 months prior to sailing, an Owners Suite came available for leg one and in January the same cabin came available for leg 2. We call that cruise karma. From the moment we stepped on the ship we were treated with the best service available. We had the head butler at our disposal (he has only 3 cabins and supervises the other butlers). This gentleman made the cruise for us. He got us into the restaurants we wanted when we wanted and was always available for anything else. At 2000 square feet, the suite was larger than my wife's first house. We had a bedroom with a separate bath and his and her closets. The foyer was our favorite as it had a fully stocked bar, sofa and grand piano that was a modern day player piano. The living room had a desk, table for 6 and full sofa. Everything was Ralph Loren, right down to the drink coasters and candy trays. With the number of sea days and with poor weather in the first week after leaving French Polynesia, we found our suite even more enjoyable. Unfortunately everything did not stay perfect. First, we missed the port call at Easter Island. The weather was great but there were ocean swells entering the tender harbor. Many were mad but we understand that this was just bad luck and, having done our homework, we realized that this was a real possibility. We booked an independent shore excursion there and as a result lost half of our prepaid excursion cost. Lima was mid cruise change out day. All was well but unbeknownst to us, someone brought aboard the dreaded GI disease. This was not our first experience with GI and Oceania. It is not a pretty site. Within 2 days of leaving Lima we started to see items disappear like the sugar bowls in the coffee bar. Next comes the announcement that if you feel sick, see the doctor for a free consultation (buyer beware - they do not say free treatment - see one of my previous Oceania reviews to learn about how Oceania will completely empty your pockets if you visit the medical center. When they hit the high level - 20 -30 people sick, service stinks. When entering a restaurant, there is nothing but a bare table cloth. Anything you can touch that can be removed is. The putting green is closed, but interestingly, live goes on as normal in the casino and ad in any other retail or money activities. We retreated to our room and used room service a bit more than we had been. The really bad part of this is that they keep the ship at this "protocol" until the GI is eradicated. It was almost over in central america (after a week) but 2 more came down with the GI. The end result was that the ship went back to normal only 3 days prior to the end of the cruise, so the total time under the sad conditions was 12 days in total. I suspect that other reviews will point this out. On departure from Miami we were informed that we would skip Norfolk and put into Port Canaveral. Good call. A check of the internet indicated 26 foot seas around Cape Hatteras and we would not have enjoyed it. I missed seeing my sister in Norfolk, but such is life. Sail into New York was mid-day and was an event everyone should get to experience. We sat on our expansive back deck and enjoyed the arrival with a room service lunch. Our travel agent has always warned us that Oceania lacks in entertainment. It did. Lectures weren't great, save for the Easter Island resident historian who prepped us for the visit that did not occur. The on board cast and guest entertainers were mediocre at best with the exception of a Vegas entertainer aboard the last week who was heads and shoulders above anything we had seen the entire 34 days aboard. This is not a high priority for us as the show mainly keeps us from going to bed too early. Overall, I would rate the cruise at a 4.5 if I could. I have been very critical of Oceania in the past, we are not likely to go again on the older smaller ships, but this one was great save for the unavoidable missed ports and GI experience. We are likely to book the larger Oceania Ship again, but only if we can get one of the top suites. We normally travel with Regent, Crystal or Seabourn but this experience was equal to or better than those lines. Read Less

I have never been on Oceania before (only Princess, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Holland America and Regent) and after the experience I had, I am going to try and limit my cruise experiences to Oceania, if at all possible. The way I was treated, the quality of the ship desgin and materials, the quality of the staff, the itinerary, and most importantly, the dining experience just set this cruise line above all others that I have experienced - and by a wide margin. The cabin (9110) had a large veranda and felt spacious. The bathroom was impressive with a full tub and a rainshower head in the shower. The water was perfect temperature throughout the cruise. Of course, the most important person we met was Lilya, our cabin stewardess and she was nothing short of magnificent - keeping everything so neat and tidy and it always felt the room was in perfect condition. Her warm demeanor meant everything to us and we will always love Ukraine after having her cheerful, professional and detailed assistance every day. We also loved Chrismerelda on our Concierge floor - such a lovely person and so responsive and helpful with our specific needs. In fact, we loved the entire Concierge floor experience - and the espresso machine was worth its weight in gold. We loved the speciality coffee bar on Deck 14 overlooking the pool. We loved the Waves sandwiches, the afternoon tea in horizons, the terrace cafe for breakfast and the Grand Dining Room for nightly dinners (though it was our least favorite experience). And that's because the specialty dining on this ship simply cannot be beat. Toscana was authentic and welcoming. Jaques was a delightful visit to France. Polo Club prepared perfect steaks (and a very inattentive woman as sommalier), and Red Ginger was our favorite of all - with special thanks to the Maitre D' who was nothing short of a true 'boss' - we are indebted to her for our service and experience there. The spa was much better than on other ships and we loved the Canyon Ranch products (especially the post-sun cooling product). Nice gym and very relaxing private spa deck. The theatre space was intimate, as was the lovely piano bar and we enjoyed that. In fact, the ship NEVER felt full (though it was 100% occupied). The artwork throughout the ship made a particular impression on me - from sculpture to paintings and of course the lalique everywhere. It felt more like a luxurious art gallery than a state-of-the-art disco and I appreciated the more sophisticated approach. Besides the speciality dining, I have to say that the approach of charging up front for coffees and sodas and not making me use a card every five minutes felt like a great indulgence and I much prefer that approach. And the specialty dining not having additional charge also made me more relaxed. We didn't purchase any shore excursions because the ports were all accessible and easy for us to navigate to blue waters and private beaches. I loved that the ship was the smallest of all my previous experiences and it felt size-appropriate for Tahitian islands. Embarkation was fast and professional - a tremendous team boarding and leaving. I would dearly love to sail on the Marina again. Read Less

For the middle-aged and older crowd, this cruise was amazing! We arrived in Papeete a day early to insure we made the ship on time in case of any flight/weather issues. We stayed at the Intercontinental on Tahiti, which was very nice and they also had a fabulous Polynesian show the night we were there. Embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly, no problems. The thing I liked about Marina is that is is a smaller ship, so less people. No crowded, stuffed elevators, no long waits in line for food, and best of all, no kids! I think there were 2 kids on the ship, but it's not geared toward kids, so there's nothing for them to do really. The food was amazing, absolutely the best meals I've ever had on a cruise ship. It was eating a gourmet meal every time you sat down to eat, even upstairs in the café! The specialty restaurants were just as wonderfully delicious and very gourmet. All of the drinks anywhere on the ship were fantastic! There was actually liquor in them! On all our other cruises, we end up just not drinking because the drinks have so much juice, you can't tell it's a drink.These were top-notch! We had Mai-Tai's, Cosmos, Piña Coladas, and they were all excellent. On every other regular cruise line, I gave up and stuck to Rum & Coke, because the fancy drinks were just terrible. Service on this ship was impeccable. We never had to ask for anything, ever. Staterooms were always ready, clean, chocolates on the bed, mats on the floor by our bedside, slippers, robes, ice bucket filled. The entire staff was friendly and welcoming and very diverse. We were offered an upgrade at a reduced price from a balcony room to a penthouse suite a week before the cruise....we accepted and were so glad we did! Lots of room and plenty of shoe and drawer space! Walk-in closet, gorgeous bathroom with a tub/shower AND a shower. Always stocked. Always clean. There was a fantastic selection of excursions to meet anyone's tastes, from easy to adventurous. Tendering in and out of ports was excellent, fast, and always went smoothly. Never a problem. Although we did bring our own 24-hour hand sanitizer, there was plenty of stations all over and outside the ship, so no excuses for germs! The ship was spotless and someone was always cleaning it, even the outside! Entertainment was just okay.....geared more toward the older crowd. I would have liked to have seen a comedy show, but the shows we did see were great. We missed quite a few, because by the time they started (9:30pm), we were so exhausted from the day, we were in our stateroom reading and falling asleep! One thing that impressed me is that the cruise line had special get-togethers for the singles and even a gay-lesbian get-together. We did do happy hour every evening around 5:30-6 before dinner and one evening 2 of the 3 bars (our favorites) were closed for a promotional group, which we were not happy about. I look forward to going on another Oceania cruise and now I'm spoiled! I don't want to go back to the regular cruise lines! Read Less

Honestly, our best cruise yet. We had a concierge level cabin and it was worth the splurge . The food was awesome in every restaurant and the main dining room. The ship was awesome as in being the right size and not too big. The service was awesome. The only thing that was a bit off was the fitness center. Not well appointed but, we just spent our time walking and swimming in the Tahitian waters instead. Loved the coffee bar. Loved the homemade ice cream. Loved the daily fresh fruit smoothies and juice bar. Loved the daily lobster tail off the fan tail at night in the warm breeze. Loved the spa and Canyon Ranch hot tubs on the front. Red Ginger was our favorite restaurant and we loved the experience. We would save up to do Oceania again in a heartbeat. It is one line we would try to repeat again as it was expensive but, worth every cent. Read Less

I had taken Insignia last fall to the cottages and coves, and fell in love with Oceania. I was a die hard Windstar cruiser. This was my fourth trip to the French Polynesia and decided to take Oceania. We upgraded to the PH. 11009 and we’re very pleased with our room and the services. The customer service from Oceania is by far the best in the industry. Thank you for another great cruise. You have yet again, exceeded my expectations. I’m not big on the entertainment though. While I believe Oceania does draw an older clientele, the music and shows I found were somewhat dated. The comedian was very good. Your customer service representative Rachael Ruebel who handled some of my daughters and my requests went above and beyond the call of duty, and she should be acknowledged for her talents and truly being one of your greatest assets in customer service. She, I would say was one of the main reason I am a committed cruiser on Oceania. In this day and age, when customer service seems to be lacking, your employees from the top, all the way to the not so top are exceptional. You treat your employees good, they bring your customers back. Great cruise. Thank you for making my daughter and my cruise amazing. See you on the next one. Just wish you had single cruises for us widow travelers. Read Less

There are now so many awful cruise reviews that despite not usually writing a review I am forced to do so to redress the balance Having read the reviews of Marina over time I believe that some people only go on a cruise so that they can complain about it afterwards whereas my only complaint for the trip as a whole is that it would have been much better had a number of ignorant, rude and objectionable passengers stayed at home. This is how I found the cruise. Ship We found the ship to be in excellent condition, well ran and well maintained. All of the staff we encountered went out of their way to be helpful and ensure that we were having a good time. We were in a Concierge Cabin on deck 9 Mid Ship and did not suffer from Vibration, excessive noise or too much rock and roll although at the front of the ship it was noticeably more so. Concierge lounge was good for early morning coffee and cake. There were a small number of children on board however this was not a cruise suitable for them. Cabins. Clean, comfortable and spaceous with sufficient storage and size of bathroom to satisfy most people. Despite the huge range of termperatures on this cruise it was neither too hot or too cold was always keep very tidy by the room attendant and suffered from no external noise problems. The bed was particularly comfortable and the choice of amenities of a good standard. Ideally, it could have had coffee making facilities but my only real complaint was the fact that during rough weather the closet rattled so much I had to wedge it closed. Restaurants We eat at all of the restaurants and found the food to be of a very good quality throughout. Service was equally good and there was a real desire by the staff to please the passengers on board. Alcoholic drinks were sometimes a little slow arriving however this was more to do with how this is organised with the Sommeliers being responsible for wine and therefore being fewer in number than the general waiting staff I had booked one visit to each of the speciality restaurants beforehand and was able to obtain additional bookings on board, 2 more at each, without problem. Our favourite was Red Ginger because of the exemplary levels of service as well as excellent food. Of note also is the Waves Grill which served excellent Sandwiches at lunchtime. Bars Most days we frequented the pool bar and in the evening Martinis. The service in the pool bar was great and staff again excellent. Martinis had an amazing Pianist called Andre Mieux who was by far the best entertainer on board the ship and the cocktails particularly the Big O, very good. We purchased the Prestige Select drinks package for the cruise and found that it was for us value for money particularly when a 25% surchange was applied to all drinks whilst in Brazilian waters on top of the 18% gratuity normally added to each drink Entertainment Proved to be a bit of a mixed bag with some which we liked other no so good Most people found that the shows are not the same on a small ship as in the West End or Vagas so will always generate comment. Personally I would have liked to have seen a little more local culture rather than acts such as An Evening with Allen. Enrichment Lectures I fell asleep at the only one I attended Shore Excursions Generally handled well by the staff on board with the booked tours getting off the ship first. Generally, they are expensive and most people we met preferred to take the chance and book their own. We did a mix of both however careful research is needed for a private tour and this takes time. Getting on and off. Mostly hassle free on embarkation less so on disembarkation due to the onward travel arrangements and large number of people. Overall this was an excellent cruise which was good value for money and I will definitely book another in future. Read Less

We traveled on the Marina on a Baltic cruise and enjoyed every minute. The ship was beautiful. Every crew member we encountered was friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. The tours enjoyable and informative with great guides. The buffet was our least favourite dining option although food was was very good it could be a little chaotic. Dining in the Grand Dining Room or one of the specialty restaurants was extremely rewarding. We enjoyed all the specialty restaurants but Red Ginger was our favourite the food was unbelievable. I still think about the duck and watermelon salad. We found the staff very accommodating when we wanted to change reservation times in the specialty restaurants. If I had a criticism I would like to see the Grand Dining Room open every day for lunch. The staff cleaning our cabin could not of been friendlier. Our veranda cabin was very comfortable. Read Less

We chose the Marina because of the Baltic itinerary. We were not disappointed. The stops were wonderful. St Petersburg was the highlight. We booked three days with Guide-Guru Tours. My husband was skeptical, but ended up loving the personal attention. The tour days in St. Petersburg were the highlight of our trip. Our tour guide, Tatiana, knew how to avoid all the lines and get us through all the places effortlessly. She would go ahead, purchase tickets, and by the time we reached the entrance she ushered us in. She was an amazing guide and we had a very small group. Eight of us the first day, six the second and just my husband and I the third. I will never take a large group tour again after the wonderful experience we had. It is impossible to see the sights in and around St. Petersburg in a large group. We saw twice as much as many of our shipmates. An extra bonus was that booking through Guide-Guru cost less than half of what some other fellow travelers paid! We contacted them via the internet and set everything up months in advance. We were able to pay in US dollars which saved up some $$. The Marina is a wonderful ship. The crew bends over backward to make sure your needs are met. I did not see one crew member without a smile and an offer to help you in any way. The food is delicious especially in the specialty restaurants. My husband said he had never tasted such a delicious piece of roast beef as he had in "Jacques" ,and we eat at fine restaurants frequently. The ship is a perfect size, never any crowds anywhere. We booked a Concierge level room. There was a lounge and several bags of laundry were included in the price. Also, we were able to book our specialty restaurants a month before which I appreciated. I would book another cruise on this ship without hesitation. Read Less

We are not normally cruisers but were travelling with another more senior couple who appreciated the practical benefits of cruising. In particular, we wanted to visit St. Petersburg and this cruise offered three nights there. So we selected the Oceania Marina based on itinerary and its strong reputation for good food. The food was excellent across the board. The four specialty restaurants as well as the Grand Dining Room and the buffet-oriented Terrace Cafe offered outstanding cuisine regardless of venue. Service both in and out of the dining venues was 5 star day and night. Can't speak much about shipboard activities as we really didn't avail ourselves of much of that. The string quartet that played daily in the main lounge before dinner was very accomplished and a pleasure to listen to. The guest pianist one evening was outstanding although we were only able to catch the latter portion of his show because of the timing of our dinner reservation that night. Wish he could have played more than one evening. In every port except St. Petersburg we did not hire a guide or take any group excursions. Talinn, Riga, Helsinki, and certainly Klaipeda are all small enough to navigate on ones own. The long Sunday at Klaipeda we mostly spent on board. Most places are closed on Sundays and the Klaipeda downtown can be covered in about an hour. Everywhere we went people spoke English. The long day we were docked at Warnemunde, we went to Lubeck -- which was brimming with medieval buildings dating back to the 13th century. We rented a car but there is public transport that will get you there as well. In St. Petersburg we toured with Dancing Bear Tours. They were fabulous. They were flexible, accommodating, and our guide spoke perfect English and was a source of so much history and information. Our driver provided door-to-door service at every stop. Great value and pleasant people to deal with. We took a canal boat ride one morning which was a wonderful way to see the city. We saw a number of churches but our favorite was St. Isaacs without a doubt. We are also culture vultures so highlights for us included the Russian Museum, the General Staff Building wing of the Hermitage, and of course the Hermitage proper. Could easily have spent whole days or even weeks in them. We enjoyed our outing to Peterhof as well, although the weather was not the sunniest. For something completely different, check out the royal bath house there if you go. I have no other cruises to compare the Marina to but would definitely recommend Oceania to anyone who is interested in exploring this part of the world. Both the ship and port experiences were grand. This was our third Oceania cruise; but it will not be our last. We chose this cruise because of the itinerary, with so many fascinating stops. Probably most passengers selected this particular line and cruise because of 3 days in St. Petersburg; but it was the embarkation port of Stockholm and disembarkation at Amsterdam that made it even better for us; as we spent a few extra days at both ends, visiting Swedish and Dutch friends/seeing what they were most proud about in their hometowns. We like the larger Oceania ships because of the wider choice of specialty restaurants, Red Ginger being our favorite. We like the variety in the Terrace Café; but not the crowds, and only went there when we knew most passengers would be off on shore excursions. Main Dining Room has upped their game, and we no longer feel disappointed to not get into a specialty restaurant - the meals in the MDR are pretty darned good. The treat of a window seat at breakfast in the MDR can't be beat, even if you are eating alone. Our only complaint regarding food was the quality of the beef on this trip. After a few disappointments in Polo, Toscana and the MDR, we stayed away from steaks. A few weeks before our sail date, we were offered an upgrade from Penthouse to Oceania Suite, 11080. My husband has recently been having some mobility issues; so the additional space was welcome and the upgrade price was not off putting. We are among the passengers who take advantage of the butler service, for hot in room breakfasts, shoe shines, in room specialty restaurant dining and all the little touches that a butler can add. Roger, from Goa, was splendid. He was VERY attentive, whether in our suite or in the hallways. He always anticipated our needs. Our steward, Ludavina, and her assistant, Ilsy, were equally efficient and friendly. We took advantage of the classes in the Culinary Center and were delighted to have Annie Copps as the instructor. We had Annie on a previous cruise on the Riviera and love her style of teaching. The classes have been shortened by a half hour; although Annie generally goes a bit over. Everything we made was delicious. In our three cruises, we have yet to make it to the evening entertainment. We do love the live music in other venues. We did go to High Tea several times - lovely service of sweets and savory with a good choice of tea. We tried LuggageFree.com this time, pre-shipping our larger, heavier suitcases. They were at the door when we arrived at our room at noon on embarkation days. Disembarkation using this service did not go as smoothly; as most employees in the Port of Amsterdam were unfamiliar with the service. In the end, all was well, and our bags arrived at home a few days ahead of the promised delivery. We will use this service again. We took only two shore excursions with Oceania, Helsinki Panoramic by Water and Panoramic Gdansk. The tour guide on the first was boring and a bit hard to understand, and the tour was generally disappointing. The guide in Gdansk was exceptional, knowledgeable, good English skills and the tour was interesting. However, the tour was listed as Easy, with little walking, which was not the case. One person of the 13 on the tour actually choose to stay on the bus and napped, because he could not walk distances. More than an hour into a walk on cobblestone, I asked the guide how much longer we were going to be walking; as many of us had chosen the excursion because it was listed as having minimal walking. She responded by letting those of us who wanted to shop or get something to drink separated for 40 minutes - 6 of us went to a sidewalk café and had a cold beverage, 2 went off shopping, and the other 4 stayed with the guide. We did the first day of the 2-day Comfort Tour in St. Petersburg with Alla. It was very well done; but the long morning in the crowded Hermitage nearly did my husband in, even with his walker. Lunch at a nice small restaurant was delicious, canal cruise was lovely, and there was just enough time for souvenir shopping (World Cup stuff for my grandchildren). We did Bruges on our own - sharing a taxi from port to town with another couple. Loved our day there!!!! Hop On Hop Off in Copenhagen was a bit disappointing; but the shopping adjacent to the dock was great for gifts and amber. Read Less

Chose Oceania because of the itinerary (combination of Baltic Sea and Norway) and reviews. The itinerary was perfect. All ports were very interesting and added to our knowledge base (not one "bad" or "boring" port.) The ship itself was perfect. Calling it "ship shape" would be doing it a disservice. Every inch of the ship was spotless, had beautifully decorated public rooms (including the bars), and was decorated with modern art (all over!!) Food was wonderful. Got to eat in each of the 4 specialty restaurants twice. Toscana was our favorite with Pepin's and Red Ginger a close second. The Polo Grill needed help with service. We are not buffet people but with the choices and special evenings at the buffet, we ate more dinners in the buffet area than the main dining room. In Vegas you would pay at least $50 per person for something like Marina's buffet. By the way, sign up for the galley tour - fascinating! Cabin was a Penthouse Suite (#11060). Perfect - - cleaned twice a day, Butler (Roger was great), large, and comfortable. Embarkation and Disembarkation was as easy as checking out of a hotel. Smooth. Only negative (and a major one for us) - - the Port and Shore Excursions. This trip was for "old" people with the average age being at least 70. Unfortunately, a lot of them are "infirmed" in some way and going on excursions slows down and limits what you are able to see. A 4 hour excursion is more like a 3 hour excursion - - people have trouble getting on/off the bus, in/out of their seats, slow walking, trouble hearing. Our best excursions were the ones we booked ourselves through the internet. My suggestion would be to book as many "private" tours as possible. With all this said, I would certainly cruise with Oceania again. Read Less

We picked this cruise mostly because of the itinerary. We wanted at least 3 days in St. Petersburg and this one gave us that, and also allowed us to see some of the less visited Baltic ports. There were no sea days and we were off the boat every day. It was an amazing trip. We did Oceania tours for three ports (Tallinn, Helsinki & Warnemunde) and Alla Tours for St. Petersburg, Riga, Klaipeda and Gdansk. The Alla tours were better: more intensive, were small groups, and were cheaper. St Petersburg was great, although I wish I had been able to more time (i.e. days) in the Hermitage, and I saw perhaps one too many gilded baroque palace and very little that dates to after the revolution. Riga was a very pleasant surprise as the Art Nouveau district was fantastic. The Curonian Spit and Malbork Castle were impressive and impressive. They were long days and long walks but I highly recommend them. The wife has celiac disease and we thought a smaller ship which focused on food might be a pleasant experience for her. We hit the jackpot and the cruise formed the heart of the best trip we’ve taken. Unlike our cruise last year on princess we didn’t get a menu for the next day’s meals. Instead we just had to ask the Maitre-D and he/she would tell us which were safe and which weren’t. They was usually a decent choice. This even worked in the Terrace cafe and we ate there often. Three of the speciality restaurants were good, similar to what we have seen on other ships, but the fourth, Red Ginger, was the best. The only negative note was the limited room service menu and hours for breakfast. WiFi was included and it was a relief not to worry about wasting precious minutes on unreliable login and logout systems. Streaming is blocked but we had downloaded enough content to get us through. The long satellite delays caused other services, like photo cloud syncing, to fail. Read Less

We love Oceania for its amazing service and outstanding food quality and variety. We've been sailing on Oceania for the past 15 years and just got off the Marina yesterday. This was an unusual itinerary since it had so many sea days (which we both love). We boarded the ship in Papette, visited 4 ports in French Polynesia and then sailed to Hawaii and visited 4 island ports there. We sailed 5 days from Kawaii to Los Angeles where we disembarked. We really enjoyed the ship's excursions. We did an excursion in every port. We enjoy nature, birds and photographing beautiful landscapes - we were not disappointed. The Pacific Ocean was as calm as a lake (we were quite lucky). We had perfect weather on every port day and all but one sea day. Our butler proved outstanding service - including room service breakfast on disembarkation day. We have booked a 30 day voyage August, 2019 sailing from London to NYC - visiting Iceland, Greenland and some of Europe. That will complete 31 Oceania cruises for us. Read Less

We had cruise three time she fore on Celebrity Solstice class before (Caribbean and twice in Mediterranean). We have just discovered a whole new world with Oceania. Oceania is for you if : (1) You like luxury at an affordable price (the fact that alcoholic drinks are not included in the base price (compared to other luxury cruise lines) help to reduce the costs for those of us who can get by with a few drinks a day. (2) You love excellent food. Except for the main restaurant which was ok (a bit less quality than the main dining room on Solstice class in our experience), the rest is awesome. How many pool grills out there have Florida lobster and tenderloin burgers for lunch? We ordered them without buns. They were awesome with delicious fries. Also, the buffet is really good. Again, Florida lobster tails, lamb chops, sirloin steaks, etc every night. And snow crab claws at least three or four times during the cruise. Absolutely delicious buffet. The four specialty restaurants are very good. I stuffed myself with Dover sole at the French restaurant (Jacques) twice and at the Italian one. My wife was delighted with her rack of veal at Jacques and her tenderloin at Polo Grill. Red Ginger was also a favorite with lobster pad thai and miso crusted sea bass (the best sea bass you will ever have, trust me). (3) You like great service. Both of our room attendants as well as almost all the crew were both highly efficient and very nice. (4) You enjoy little touches of luxury like white gloves afternoon tea with scones, whipped cream, clotted cream, etc. And a very talented string quartet that has a very large repertoire of classical music. (5) You do not like to pay for everything : free bottles of water, free pop, free specialty coffee and free specialty restaurants! Of course, the destination was very romantic with all ports of calls (except Nuku Hiva) very interesting, no....wonderful. Ah Bora Bora... Tips : (1) You may want to do your own air booking. It costs more to do your own booking, BUT you arrive and leave when you want. For example, we arrived three days before the cruise and left two days after. We don’t like to be rushed and it allowed us to both adjust to the time difference and check the prices of items before leaving for the islands on the cruise. (2) In French Polynesia, you want to buy pearls : the range of colors and the quality are unbelievable. Wait for Fakarava and Rangiroa in the Tuamotu Islands. This is where most pearl farms are located and the variety and price-quality ratio are unbeatable. Will we go ba k with Oceania? We have already booked our next cruise... Read Less

We chose this cruise based on recommendations from others who used Oceania and its reputation as an upscale cruise line. The service was incredible. I think the fact that we were in a large suite may have helped, don't know for sure, but the fact that we were greeted by name the first night at the specialty restaurants was impressive. The room was great, the butler Mani was fantastic, and everyone on board was friendly and helpful. It was our first "sea trials" cruise since my wife has an issue with motion sickness, but the Marina proved to be very stable in the Pacific. Only on one night she was a bit queasy on the long trip north to the Marquesas, but was not too bad. The service was better than I have had in any hotels and the wait staff as good if not better than any restaurants. We enjoyed it very much, so much so we booked 2 more cruises with Oceania. Houskeeping even arranged our shoes back in the closet! The food was great. We preferred the specialty restaurants and the magnificently decorated Grand Dining room. They were quieter and more relaxed than the buffet and we were not in a hurry, even for breakfast. We especially liked having our breakfast in the suite. The terrace cafe was too crowded and we felt jostled while trying to get food. There was a nice variety of food there, but people were standing over tables waiting for seats at times. People would sit there grazing for hours if they had no trips ashore or the ship was at sea and occupying all the tables. On those days we went to the Grand Dining room for breakfast or lunch as it was usually empty and much more relaxed, even if there were fewer menu choices. We like the quality atmosphere rather than quantity. You are afforded that choice. The suite afforded us more access to the specialty restaurants, Polo-Steak, Toscana-Italian, Red Ginger-Oriental, and Jacques-French. All were good but Jacques was some of the best French food we have ever had, even better than in Paris IMHO. The Chef Geno was a true "Genius". Do youself a favor, try Jacques even if you do not have a reservation included. Best French food EVER in my humble opinion.! In Tahiti, the ships excursions were good, convenient and planned well, albeit expensive I think. If you are not in Tahiti for Diving or watersports, there is only so much sightseeing available. If you are budget conscious, you may do better by renting a car or taxi, but the cruise ships pretty much use up all the local transportation. Divers on board seemed to do better booking their own trips onshore. One person paid a local in Huahine to drive him around for $20 he said. Even drop off and a pick up later at the beach? Caveat emptor. The scenery is gorgeous. The ports except for 2 require tenders which require a little more planning. The tender crews were efficient and accomodated the handicapped. Not a cruise for children or even teenagers. The onshore attractions are mainly scenic which is spectacular. Some of the others (see Trip Advisor) were a bit contrived and touristy, but ok for a few hours. I.E. One pearl farm was real, the other was just a gift shop, a vanilla farm was also a gift shop. I found better prices on pearls in COSTCO and NY, so unless you want a souvenir, do some research if you want a low price. Be aware that Oceania has a 36hr cancellation policy if you change your mind on shore excursions. There were excursions for limited mobility persons. Check the info on the Oceania website. The live entertainment on board, other than the culinary classes was just average. We are spoiled being so close to NY and Broadway maybe?. The entertainers tried hard, but "missed" a few notes. This combined with the fact that they start at 9:30 and we were usually tired, limited our participation. Some folks liked it, most others so-so. I would not cruise for the entertainment. We did miss the comic, which I heard was good. We did like the piano player in the Lounge and the afternoon tea with the Chamber music was delightful. The pastries were enough to satisfy anyone's sweet tooth. The Captains cocktail party was definitely worth attending. Our room was wonderful. Having a large room, although more expensive, allowed us some quiet privacy with enough space that we did not need to use a lounge to spread out. The hot tub on the deck with the TV was over the top too. It was windy on the front of the ship, and they tied down the furniture at night, but that was not an issue for us. Other folks did have an issue with this in prior reviews, but we did not. The staff was there in the am and set it out again every day. But being in the front of the ship and watching as we entered the next island anchorage was priceless. We did get "scolded" one night by the captain because we did not draw the curtains at night while underway. We were at dinner and were late so we forgot. We had a polite but assertive phone message telling us the captain was not pleased. Our room was directly below the bridge and the glare affected their visibility. The butler dealt with it, but were definitely "scolded". The room had a small excercise room with two machines which we used once or twice, but It became more of a storage room for the cushions, chargers, etc. Would be better as a bedroom or study I think. TV was limited but had nice previews of the ports. Also, Jacques Pepin had his own cooking channel which I liked, but we were not really there for TV except to check th News on CNN and MSNBC etc. Won't find your sitcoms, but we did have a library of movies. Liked the binoculars in the drawer, but found them by accident. Understand you are in the middle of the Pacific and the Internet is not what you have at home. UNLIMITED Internet means 24 hr unlimited access, NOT UNLIMITED BANDWITH. Streaming applications are not supported, video conference, etc. You are sharing the satellite connection with 1500 other guests and crew so if you set your expectaions and enjoy the ship and scenery and save the internet for home, you will be less dissapointed. ITS SLOW,,,,, PERIOD! Our houskeeping was great. Bulgari amenities nice, fruit everyday and welcome bottle of top shelf champagne. We had 6 bottles of top shelf liquor which sufficed so we did not get the liquor plan. We opted for a glass or bottle of wine at dinner. One nice thing the sommelier told us is that we could save the unconsumed bottle for the next night at a different restaurant. They vacumn sealed it and brought it the next night. This was good because my wife does not like red and I did not want to drink or waste the rest of a bottle, especially an expensive one. Also liked the wine tasting of the "old school" wines. They had a great selection, including Tignanello one of my favotites. Don't always see some top end wines at a tasting. The beverage director really knew his wines and regions. A nice upscale break from more local or touristy winery tastings. The wine markup was not outrageous for the higher end wines. A bottle of Tignanello, although pricey and retails for $90, was $140 on board for a reference. You can also get a decent chard in the $45 range. Boarding was fine. Transfers for our 8:30 am flight great. Although a suite is expensive, when you add up the perks, it helps defer some of that cost. Early boarding, more excursions, more specialty dining, liquor, butler service, really added to the experience. A splurge, yes, but when spending your kids inheritance, who cares! LOL The VISTA suite has all the perks, more than enough room, and all of the perks of the owners suite. Usually sells out first. Air Tahiti is not bad, but if you are tall its tight in coach. Sit on the outside. No Economy plus seating. Try for the newer plane. First class is good, but very very expensive. In summary, wonderful trip, great service, great food, great room, average entertainment for my taste.. Will go again, booked 2 more cruises. What more can I say but a Perfect Vacation! We did the B2B second cruise sailing on March 7th, itinerary was spectacular.....Let's start with embarkation, the smoothest we have ever had walked on got checked in and that was it, all of maybe 5 minutes. The Marina is a gorgeous ship with a fabulous layout, beautifully appointed with the most tasteful decor I have seen on a ship. The crew was amazing, I did not encounter one crew member without a smile, cordial greeting and upbeat positive energy. We were in a Penthouse suite on Deck 11 midship that was homey, clean and positively beautiful, tranquility bed that offered the most welcome sleep, walk in closet with ample hangers, drawers, overhead shelving and a bathroom to die for! The deck was perfect for anytime of day due to overhang of deck 12 shading from the intense sun of the South Pacific, great for afternoon 15 min snoozes to prepare for your evening antics. Our butler Vinod was unbelievable, always anticipating our every need with fantastic suggestions for dining and activities, Dujon our room attendant was so detail oriented, organized and again anticipating our every need so much so that if I had the means to steal both of them I would! Dining was out of this world, there was not a item we tried that was not first class, perfectly cooked and memorable from the main dining room to of course the specialty restaurants. The perfect start to our day and treat following returning to the ship after very busy ports was to the Barista's, they were fantastic, fun and made wonderful coffee that made us smile with each and every sip. We did not attend a lot of the entertainment due to the one production time that usually overlapped with our dining however we did catch the comedians who were good clean fun. I can't even imagine a nicer ship, better crew and impeccable service that we had with Oceania's Marina however we do look forward to our next cruise with Oceania to have another wonderful experience! Not a regular cruiser, I was lured in by a university alumni association brochure. Even though there were some negatives, This cruise ended up being the vacation of a lifetime. What my husband and I liked: Embarkation: Smooth, efficient, quick, and without fanfare. We especially liked that there were no sales pitches or photo promotions before getting to our room. Dining: Authentic French croissants, French baguettes, fresh fruit and vegetable smoothies for breakfast, Cappuccino and expresso options for breakfast and in bar near library, fresh seafood salad for lunch- it was a foodie heaven - and those were outside the specialty restaurants. We loved the four specialty restaurants, especially Red Ginger and Polo a Grill. The variety of choices and quality was excellent wherever we went. We really liked that we could reserve ahead of embarkation. Our food waiters were accommodating, personable, and reliable, making dining a pleasure. It was harder to secure reservations at these after our initial reservations ended, but on the nights we ate in the Grand Dining Room, we thought the food was very good. We took advantage of the Wine Spectator dining experience twice and very much enjoyed the menus and wine pairings both nights. Afternoon tea at 4 PM with white gloved service and live classical music was amazing and the icing on the cake of luxury. Happy Hour at Horizons was festive and the band worked hard to accommodate requests. A Negative: Purchasing the seven bottle wine package was a hassle. Upon boarding we were directed to the main reception desk where we were given brochures for the two more expensive wine packages. When we persisted in the seven bottle package , we were redirected to a bar , where we were redirected to a restaurant. We were then told to purchase from our first sommelier. That night our sommelier told us “ no , you don’t want to purchase the package. It’s better to buy by the bottle.” We knew it wasn’t. The next day we were finally able to buy the 7 bottle package. On our final night, our sommelier told us our package was done. We asked to see our consumption history. A half hour later, we were told we indeed had a bottle left. Our wine package experience was disappointing. The stateroom: we really liked our room, 10091. It was quiet and near a main elevator and stairway. We found the room adequate in size with ample closet space and drawer space for our clothes, and I’m not a light packer! I really liked that the desk doubled as a vanity for hair drying and styling. We also liked having a couch and coffee table for the few times we wanted to relax in the room. Our bed was very comfortable and the linens were sumptuous. The bathroom was pretty and modern. As others have said, it’s a bit odd because there is a separate and smallish ( for average size people) shower stall and a full bathtub with shower. My husband used the bathtub the first night; I used the tub shower the next morning, but we found it most useful for hanging wet swimsuits and beach shoes because of the handy laundry line attached to both ends of the tub. We loved the balcony and used it to rejuvenate daily. Bathroom Storage space for toiletries was generous and exceeded my expectations. Housekeeping service was efficient, friendly, and reliable. Canyon Ranch Spa: This was one of the highlights of the ship. We opted for the six massage package and enjoyed our experiences very much. Anzelika was a caring, skilled professional who gave me some great tips and resources to use at home. I had a free orthotic consultation and came away better informed about how to take care of my arches. My husband and I loved the spa guest sun deck area, the wave chaise, and the separate sauna and steam room facilities. A negative: I added a manicure appointment near the end of the trip. It became a jarring surprise when my technician was tardy and then discourteous and haughty. This was the only cruise staff I encountered in 10 days who wasn’t friendly and professional. Ports: We loved all the ports. We especially liked renting bikes on our own from locals in Fakarava and just walking and exploring on our own in Rangiroa. We chose the 8 ‘free’ excursions as part of our cruise and liked most but found our choices of excursions were limited to mostly bus tours. We found our guides very informative but some of the same themes were repeated: pearl farms and ancient ceremonial sites. Our favorite excursion was a separate one we booked that took us out for snorkeling and swimming. Next time I would choose the ship credit and book excursions on my own. Disembarkation: Smooth, efficient, organized. Even though there were a few negatives, Oceania Marina delivered an outstanding experience filled with relaxing, luxurious amenities and features. The South Pacific Islands and Easter Island had been on the bucket list for years, and we finally decided to take the plunge, sailing from Lima, Peru to Papeete, Tahiti on our favorite cruise line. Unfortunately it became apparent several days into the cruise that some folks were suffering gastro illnesses, which turned into a full blown outbreak of Noro virus. The crew did their level best to staunch the spread, but, alas, we all know how insidious that illness can be. As I said, the crew did their best. And I'm happy to report that most of the passengers with whom I had contact made the best of a bad situation. Perhaps we were just lucky, but none of my new-found and old friends got sick. Guess we were careful about washing hands and using sanitizers provided everywhere on board. Just wish all had done so! As I just said, we made the best of the situation and were able to enjoy a fabulous cruise, and we were not disappointed. As I mentioned, Easter Island (Rapa Nui, its traditional name) was on our itinerary for a two day opportunity to visit the island. We were fortunate to have as an on-board lecturer James Grant-Peterkin, a long time resident of the island. He was great, and each of his lectures turned out to be standing room only! And a group of CC members (ourselves included) had pre-booked the two day tour on EI with the tour company he owned, Easter Island Spirit, which certainly did not disappoint us in any way! I'm sure many of you know just how 'iffy' it is to be able to go ashore on EI due to the sea swells usually encountered in this area of the Pacific, but I'm happy to report that the Marina was blessed to be able to accomplish this on not one, but both days. An experience not to be missed! Two days later we had the residents of Pitcairn Island board the ship with offerings made on the island. A great opportunity to meet these hardy folks. Our on-board experience on this cruise was exceptional, which we have come to expect on Oceania (discounting the MINOR inconveniences of not having use of the self-service laundry and coffee machines). The entire staff who worked like dogs to control the noro, from cabin attendents through upper staff members, retained their cheerful, friendly attitudes. I'm sure the additional sanitizing duties had them all worn out, but you would never see it either in their faces nor their attitudes. They all deserved our gratitude, not our criticism! The Marina was in her usual pristine condition - again discounting the noro, which was not the ship's fault, but rather the fault of those passengers who either picked up the bug on their flights or neglected rudimentary personal sanitation procedures. All dining venues continued to please our personal preferences, and service was exemplary. Kudos to all! Will we be back? OF COURSE! In closing, I just want to point out a few items that folks here seem to blame Oceania for both of which are, and will continue to be, out of their control: boarding in Callao (Lima's port city) is not an Oceania shortfall; rather the blame lies with the port authority which owns/manages the port. And secondly, the outbreak of noro which is solely attributable to the passengers failure to practice hand washing/sanitizing, and to report illness promptly! Read Less

A fabulous crossing from Barcelona to Miami. The absolute best cuisine at sea. Despite the December transAtlantic, the ocean cooperated with calm seas and mild weather. The ship, service, LaReserve, food & wine at its best! We enjoy sea days, having experienced 6 crossings. Marina (and sister ship) are the largest ships we ever cruise - a perfect size for us. Food quality is reliably superb. Wine selections generous by the glass - and good variety of premium wine for dinner venues. Barista's coffee bar is an early morning gathering place for cruisers. Fitness Center is busy on sea days mid-mornings; the band/orchestra played good jazz, easy listening, and dancing music. Pianist offered excellent arrangements and easy music for pre-dining cocktails. Wish we had booked a B2B and stayed on board for the next leg of the itinerary. Peaceful and beautiful relaxing cruise across the Atlantic Ocean. We'll be back! Read Less

We left Civitavecchia for a 14-night cruise to the Mediterranean, with unique ports of call ( Naples, Sicily, Haifa (Israrel), Cyprus, Rhodes, Gytheon, Malta, Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona ), – what made us choose this cruise in particular. You feel like having a fabulous dinner in a starred restaurant. With only four sea days, there is a chance of getting to know places one would not normally choose to go. Since embarkation until the last good-bye, you feel welcomed and cared for. It´s a good feeling, no doubt about it! The crew works hard, and apparently with pleasure, to provide us with the time of our lives. It is NOT a ship for children, it aims adults. I was surprised to know that, with less than 15 years of existence, there is a great number of passengers that have travelled more than 20 times with Oceania Cruises. I know why ! :-) Read Less

We are a couple in our mid to late fifties having cruised on many different lines with thirty plus cruises under our belt, we were highly anticipating this cruise as it was a visit to the "Holy Land". We cruised on the Oceania Riviera last December in the Caribbean and had a great cruise and became converts! Our go to cruise line has been Celebrity for years but Oceania has got it figured out! There is no comparison necessary, Oceania takes it to a new level! How both Riviera and Marina ships which are almost identical in every way could be so different blows my mind. We were happy with the Riviera last December but after cruising for 15 days on the Marina...my goodness, the food, service, management and staff are to be congratulated on the job they are doing. The restaurant staff as well others on board new our names by the second day. Always greeting us with professional courtesy. The wine stewards, even if they were not serving us would come up to us and greet us as they remembered us the night before in the restaurant. The Phillipino and Indonesian staff are the best, always greeting us with a smile and politeness seldom experienced. If there was an issue, they quickly corrected it. The staff and management on this ship could not do enough to make sure everything was right. There was also a lot of South American hosts and wine stewards that were simply awesome! The ironic part to this cruise was the heavily anticipated visit to Israel which we have been trying to visit for the last several years. It actually turned out to be the disappointment of all the ports. We enjoyed, Sicily as usual, Cypress, Rhodes, Malta for Gozo and Palma de Majorca. The only port we missed due to high swells was Gythion. The weather was excellent throughout the cruise, very comfortable, not short weather but light clothes was all you required. Great touring weather. We enjoyed all the specialty restaurants, favorites being Jacques and Toscana with Red Ginger and Polo Grill very close. We only ate in the main dining room for dinner twice, one night was great the other a disappointment. Breakfast was always excellent in the main dining room as well the occasional lunch. It is befitting of a dining room in some 5 star hotel in Europe..simply beautiful. The Terrace Cafe and Wave Grill was always very good. The ship has a capacity of 1250, but the ship only had approximately 1000 persons on board. The ship has been maintained well however the rooms are in need of a refreshing as wear and tear is somewhat noticeable. We would certainly consider a Penthouse suite next time as the extra space would be welcomed especially in the clothes closet as in the staterooms it is an annoyance trying to access and move around. Cabin stewards were pleasant and were efficient. Concierge was helpful to us and followed up when there was an issue. The gym and spa area were excellent with sauna and steam rooms. Never busy, the Terrace deck was a private sanctuary which we enjoyed! The only difference with this private enclave is the Riviera has an Infinity type therapy pool as opposed to the Marina with two separate whirlpools. We enjoyed La Reserve by Wine Spectator, Food wine pairing event one night. The Odyssey menu, we had tried this on the Riviera and was blown away and the repeat experience lived up to our original encounter. A special treat for sure! We loved the itinerary and booked it with 16 friends, Fabulous time had by all. Dining was exceptional and we were able to have many premium dining experiences in the premium restaurants. Staff were attentive and outstanding, service is a 10! Oceania is our cruise line of choice, love the small ships and luxury accommodations. The amenities are great and being a multi time cruiser has earned us some special benefits. In the lux plus market they are the best and the standard. Cruising on other lines means you are just going on a cruise, on Oceania you are definitely cruising in style and experiencing the finest cuisine at sea. It may cost a bit more than the Princess's and Celebrity's but the Value exceeds the cost, the best hands down. The staff makes you feel like family and you leave the ship looking forward to your next trip with your new family. Read Less

This review is for the Marina Baltic “Viking Homelands” trip commencing in Copenhagen on September 12 and ending in Amsterdam September 24, 2017. We were first time Oceania customers. Previously on RCL, Cunard and Celebrity from 1992 to 2015. Overall, 9/10 for our first Oceania experience; we are very pleased. We were in a regular veranda # 8075. We will book again with Oceania when circumstances permit; what Oceania offered met our requirements and our expectations with a few exceptions noted below. We chose Oceania this time because this itinerary had different ports for departure and arrival and the best selection of destinations for a Baltic cruise we have ever seen; including Oslo and smaller ports like Tallinn and Visby. This selection of ports and trip itinerary is not provided on the mass cruise lines. We did not use Oceania excursions - we used TJ travel for St. Petersbury and Berlin. TJ travel was excellent and would use them again. Trust this review will be of interest/assistance to those on the Oceania board as well as other Cruise Critic members. SUMMARY Our review is based on Oceania marketing materials – their statement of their product. The review is based on what we experienced versus what Oceania stated they would provide, the “O” Life Difference. Your assessment may be different. Please know, we are very skeptical consumers – We believe nothing in writing and wait to see what actually happens. We are not loyal to any service provider and monitor exactly what product is received from cruise lines, restaurants, hotels etc. We are “value for money” consumers – price is only one analysis component. “The Finest Cuisine At Sea” – Hard to evaluate unless you have cruised a lot on most of the lines. Will say most of the food was very good; high quality, large and varied selection in the theme restaurants, well prepared, good presentation. As expected of a premium line, in Tallinn, the chef was able to get fresh sea bream and it was served in Toscana. Super excellent. The breads and sweets were of the highest quality – especially the pain au chocolate which was real French pastry not bread dough like on the mass lines. The example of the food that typified the quote above was the dessert lollipop – a small cone wrapped in gold foil. It had a sugar cone and inside was a fresh strawberry, raspberry etc. with chocolate ganache on top and icing. This was available most lunches and dinners in the Terrace buffet; do not see that on a mass line. Little things matter. One of the things that drove us away from Celebrity was they started to put a fake coffee creamer on the breakfast tray (vile to say the least). The breakfast tray on Oceania was exceptional – it was over the top. Real cream in a stainless steel container. WOW. Could not be more pleased. Please see below under negatives regarding food. “A Variety Of Distinctive Open-Seating Restaurants, all at no additional charge” – That statement is somewhat misleading. All cruise ships have a minimum of one (1) open seating, included in the fare, the pool deck food venue. What was different from the mass cruise lines was the open-seating Grand Dining Room with no charge. This venue was excellent from size, location, tables, service, fit and finish. “Gourmet cruise created by world-renowned Master Chef Jacques Pepin” – His “every day favorites” in the Grand Dining Room were not so special frankly. The plated products we were served were mass cruise line quality. A piece of naked salmon and green beans supplemented with your choice of sides in separate dishes. His food in Jacques was a slightly better quality than we have had on Celebrity. You need to try harder Oceania in this regard. “Epicurean enrichment programs” – Yes, very well patronized on sea days. Seemed high end with very engaged chefs and enthused guests. “Award winning itineraries” – Tried to find out who gave Oceania an award – nothing. Will say their itineraries are well beyond the mass lines – Oceania does not repeat an itinerary, and they usually leave and arrive at different ports. You definitely get more value on Oceania voyages versus the mass cruise lines when you factor in the effort and cost to fly these days. The “Viking Homelands” itinerary was the best of the Baltic season across all cruise lines. “Intimate, luxurious ships catering to just 684 to 1,250 guests” – This is a big difference versus mass cruise lines. A huge advantage and worth paying for. “Exceptional personalize service” – received all that. We were in a regular veranda stateroom. Our dear stewardess put a white towel down by either side of our bed every night. Our slippers were put there. When you undress at night, you are on this special towel, not the carpet. It was worth so much to have this – the little things make a huge difference. “Country club casual ambiance” – Delivered. I would say that with a few exceptions, guests dressed country club style, with significant high end golf wear. “Acclaimed Canyon Ranch Spa Club”- Did not patronize Regarding entertainment, was good quality and appropriate for the target market. Good singing ability and costumes. Entertainment aimed at target market; baby boomers. No lavish vegas style productions. The port lecturer was from a California university - fact based and dry but ok. This is an adult cruise line, there were no children present nor are there any services available to support same. NEGATIVES As is typical of life, there is usually a few items that are at variance with expectations/advertisement. Room noise. Two sources of noise. Given the cruise line, we had expectations of acoustical quiet with the exception of the inevitable door slamming. Not provided on Marina. First, there was constant “banging” from the staterooms on either side. Why? Because the drawer/closet drawer closers were so strong they pulled the drawers/closets back into place with a huge “bang”. Repeatedly over and over at all times of the day and night depending upon the schedule of our neighbours. We were awoken every morning early with “bangs” beside our head while lying in bed. We made sure to manually close all our drawers so there was no “banging” from our stateroom. We have to say that it was most disturbing because it was random and loud. This is obviously a systemic design flaw in the ship creating noise – because never had this before on any other ship. Second, the acoustical application in walls/ceilings seemed poor because we constantly heard foot falls above us and TV sounds from both sides – again, never experienced this on other ships. To summarize, we were not pleased with the stateroom acoustical privacy and it is a show stopper for us regarding another booking on Marina. We assume that other guests have heard this so really do not know if this is an issue for other guests. Concierge. Guest Relations recommended we speak with Concierge regarding the noise issue. We submitted a form. Received a call and had a short discussion. We were dismissed by both the employee and the supervisor. No interest or empathy happening with this business unit. Terrace Café – Given this is a premium cruise line and the stated “finest cuisine at sea”, we were disappointed at the limited range of food in this venue. Half the café had the same food so there was much less choice than you would think. Things like only a single style of pasta offered (not a pasta bar with multiple inputs), no “ethnic” food bar rather some nights had a theme menu given the day’s port etc. There were more limitations on choice than we thought. Grand Dining Room – As mentioned earlier, the Jacques selections were not impressive and not in compliance with “finest cuisine at sea”. Further, some entrees like sea bass pasta and fried avocado were awful and cheap and should never have been presented on Oceania. Other entrees were acceptable but to be frank – not generally any better than the entrees on our last Celebrity cruise in the MDR. So Oceania, the Grand Dining Room menu was not totally in compliance with “the finest cuisine at sea”. HIGHLIGHTS Small Vessels – What a total joy and privilege to be on a 66,000 ton vessel. It was manageable and simple to enter and exit. We lacked for nothing but had everything. Were able to see other guests and staff often. A total joy and we are pleased to pay for an intimate experience of a ship this size. Inclusiveness – This is big item for our household. Notwithstanding suites and their lounge; everyone on the ship mingled. Everyone ate in every food venue – there were no guests segregated in a separate dining area as is increasingly the case on the mass cruise lines. This is a reason we moved from Celebrity to Oceania. We enjoy meeting everyone on the ship over drinks and dinners. If Oceania changes this, we will remove our patronage. Many guests we spoke with felt the same. Guests – The class and decorum of the guests simply outstanding. A significant step up from Celebrity guests over the years. Gracious, knowledgeable, dressed well, not fixated on booze. Service – No words to describe the excellent service by the staff (except Concierge noted earlier). Every staff member we interacted with were classy, gracious, pleasant, enthused, would look you in the eye and many, many smiles. When a plate was done, it was gone between 10 to 30 seconds. Outstanding. The level of service and personalized service was simply amazing. We are more than pleased to pay for this level and quality of service. Totally spoiled now. Compliments to all those wonderful hard working staff. Themed Restaurants – Simply the best food dining arrangement we have experienced. So much better than assigned to a single dining venue and having to pay extra per the mass lines. Oceania you have a winning concept here. This will bring us back to Oceania. Had dinner at 4 different themed restaurants with outstanding food and service. Were able to book additional nights beyond our base of 4, so that was excellent and efficiently handled. The food and service was outstanding in each restaurant. Cruise Director – Nolan Dean was excellent. Professional, courteous with humour and energy. Nothing forced here, a genuine professional enjoying his job. Class from beginning to end. High Tea – Outstanding, oh my. Blows the high tea on QM2 out of the water. Total quality and care and class. Watching the chefs assemble the servers and describe each food item was outstanding. This was well attended by guests and we can see why. Room Attendant – We had a delightful room stewardess and assistant who kept our room perfect. These staff were not performing their work with the agitation and franticness that we have experienced on other cruise lines. Coffee Bar and Library – Excellent layout with the coffee bar, sandwiches and sweets section than followed by the library then followed by the card room – an excellent layout which was highly patronized. RECENT OCEANIA THREADS Bland Food - We have no previous experience with Oceania so can-not say. Will say the food tasted good overall considering most of it is probably previously frozen and produced in somewhat mass quantity. Found the food in Red Ginger (ate there twice), a bit bland. Asked for more spice and sure enough it tasted “alive”. We met numerous repeater guests and asked them this question. Most said the food was of poorer quality and taste a couple of years ago but has improved since. COMPARISON TO MASS CRUISE LINES I have been a CC member for over 15 years and have seen and experienced much related to cruising. Oceania is not suitable for every cruise guest. Oceania is not a high energy, high entertainment experience. We believe the focus is on quiet enjoyment, excellent food and service, relationship with the sea and guest interaction. Oceania does not try to keep you entertained all the time and does not encourage loud activities and behaviors. There is limited to no upselling. Oceania keeps the scale of their product at the low end with smallish ships which encourages intimacy between guests and crew and guests. It is a fairly simple on board product which is executed very well and with pride. Since 2010 or so, the mass cruise lines focus on product cheapening, booze, nickel and diming, mega ships, class favoritism, “ship in a ship”, inward ship design, minimizing itinerary in favour of on board revenue generation, shorter itineraries, gimmicks like magic carpets (celebrity) and in many cases abandoning the long-time guest in favor of the millennial. This appeals to some and repels others as to be expected. Pleased to say, Oceania appears representative of the golden age of cruising prior to 2010. Celebrity is our previous cruise provider and the Oceania product (and guests) are simply the previous Celebrity (and well beyond that) before Celebrity changed their product. On Marina, around the pool were staff offering flavored ices like I enjoyed on Solstice in 2013. The high tea was like I enjoyed on the Zenith in 1992 and Century in 1998. There were petite sandwiches in the Marina coffee bar like on Solstice in 2013. In the Marina Grand Dining Room, you were able to choose your sides just like I previously enjoyed on Celebrity. Regarding service; we have considerable empathy for the staff on the mass cruise lines given the cutbacks and increasing complexity of the ship experience. This class and that class and that class dining only for lunch but not dinner and on and on in a complex matrix of delivery requirements. Met numerous staff on Marina who were quite open about leaving Celebrity, RCL and Princess in particular because it was impossible to do a good job given the reduced staff levels combined with increasing complexity and having to deal with customers who were constantly demanding more and more and explanations on differences in class amenities. Oceania seems to have a straightforward product which makes it easier for staff to deliver and guests to understand and evaluate. We appreciate that and it must be so much better for the staff considering their circumstance. Fortunately there is considerable choice in cruise service providers, so hopefully each consumer can find a good fit. We believe that with the constant change in the industry and the cruise line chase for increased profit, it is becoming necessary to reduce brand loyalty. Hence why we moved to Oceania for now. For the moment, our decision analysis has been rewarded. Read Less

The service on the Oceania ship is over the top. Whatever you want/need, the cheerful and eager staff will bend over backwards to make passengers happy. Actually every wish is anticipated. Everything was beyond our expectations. We chose to join a 'Roll Call' with Gina Raio Bitsimis, which we found on Cruise Critic. We connected with her group on board and excursions (roughly 10 per bus) were organized with them...at a much more reasonable price than the ship's expensive excursions of large bus loads. The reasons why we switched from Princess to Oceania are: 1. no high pressure advertising 2. the meals which are all of the highest quality and flavour. The only negative (besides the pillows!) was the debarcation at the end of the cruise which took 45 minutes of standing in line after picking up our suitcases outside the ship waiting for a taxi. We loved our Oceania Baltic cruise experience and recommend it highly. Read Less
