We wanted to visit Norway again & since this cruise also had some new to us ports we booked it It was round trip Amsterdam which was also a good feature for us We took the cruise only fare & booked our own Bus class seat on Air Canada ..wonderful lie flat seats we managed to actually sleep on the flight Embarkation: We we were in a B cabin so we arrived about 1:00pm minimal line up & we were onboard quickly went to the Terrace for a quick bite to eat amazingly it was not crowded like other embarkation days when our cabins were ready we dropped off the carry on bags then went wandering back to cabin to unpack before muster Muster was quick & painless as usual some people felt the drill was not for them after Muster we headed to Horizons after dropping off our life vests we had our Cruise Critic Meet & Greet A section was roped off with a sign for CC (Thank you Dominique) We had a good turn out I would guess about 50 + people as well as the CD Peter & GM Dominique after that dinner in the Terrace with our TA & a small group of her clients & a surprise guest Mr Bob Binder & his wife were also on the cruise The cruise was very smooth sailing we did have a issue one day one of the life boats had a leak so required us to stay later in port until it was fixed we were a little late getting into the next port but at least we made it there was some doubt the night before whether we would or just have a sea day The Oceania crew came through Food was very good with some hiccups but who is perfect all the time We ate in Red Ginger it was better than the last time we tried it but it was not that good sorry but 3 strikes we are done with Red Ginger For those that say the food there is not spicy enough ..you should have had my Green Curry ..I had no feeling in my mouth for the duration of the meal Oh Well we prefer the GDR any way & we did not starve The scones at tea are still not like they used to be but better than our last cruise The weather was very nice then the heatwave caught up with us in some of the ports It was uncomfortable for me so we did not do too much in those ports ..some we had been to before Overall the cruise was very good & we booked another on onboard (which we rarely do) Read Less

This was our third Oceania cruise; but it will not be our last. We chose this cruise because of the itinerary, with so many fascinating stops. Probably most passengers selected this particular line and cruise because of 3 days in St. Petersburg; but it was the embarkation port of Stockholm and disembarkation at Amsterdam that made it even better for us; as we spent a few extra days at both ends, visiting Swedish and Dutch friends/seeing what they were most proud about in their hometowns. We like the larger Oceania ships because of the wider choice of specialty restaurants, Red Ginger being our favorite. We like the variety in the Terrace Café; but not the crowds, and only went there when we knew most passengers would be off on shore excursions. Main Dining Room has upped their game, and we no longer feel disappointed to not get into a specialty restaurant - the meals in the MDR are pretty darned good. The treat of a window seat at breakfast in the MDR can't be beat, even if you are eating alone. Our only complaint regarding food was the quality of the beef on this trip. After a few disappointments in Polo, Toscana and the MDR, we stayed away from steaks. A few weeks before our sail date, we were offered an upgrade from Penthouse to Oceania Suite, 11080. My husband has recently been having some mobility issues; so the additional space was welcome and the upgrade price was not off putting. We are among the passengers who take advantage of the butler service, for hot in room breakfasts, shoe shines, in room specialty restaurant dining and all the little touches that a butler can add. Roger, from Goa, was splendid. He was VERY attentive, whether in our suite or in the hallways. He always anticipated our needs. Our steward, Ludavina, and her assistant, Ilsy, were equally efficient and friendly. We took advantage of the classes in the Culinary Center and were delighted to have Annie Copps as the instructor. We had Annie on a previous cruise on the Riviera and love her style of teaching. The classes have been shortened by a half hour; although Annie generally goes a bit over. Everything we made was delicious. In our three cruises, we have yet to make it to the evening entertainment. We do love the live music in other venues. We did go to High Tea several times - lovely service of sweets and savory with a good choice of tea. We tried LuggageFree.com this time, pre-shipping our larger, heavier suitcases. They were at the door when we arrived at our room at noon on embarkation days. Disembarkation using this service did not go as smoothly; as most employees in the Port of Amsterdam were unfamiliar with the service. In the end, all was well, and our bags arrived at home a few days ahead of the promised delivery. We will use this service again. We took only two shore excursions with Oceania, Helsinki Panoramic by Water and Panoramic Gdansk. The tour guide on the first was boring and a bit hard to understand, and the tour was generally disappointing. The guide in Gdansk was exceptional, knowledgeable, good English skills and the tour was interesting. However, the tour was listed as Easy, with little walking, which was not the case. One person of the 13 on the tour actually choose to stay on the bus and napped, because he could not walk distances. More than an hour into a walk on cobblestone, I asked the guide how much longer we were going to be walking; as many of us had chosen the excursion because it was listed as having minimal walking. She responded by letting those of us who wanted to shop or get something to drink separated for 40 minutes - 6 of us went to a sidewalk café and had a cold beverage, 2 went off shopping, and the other 4 stayed with the guide. We did the first day of the 2-day Comfort Tour in St. Petersburg with Alla. It was very well done; but the long morning in the crowded Hermitage nearly did my husband in, even with his walker. Lunch at a nice small restaurant was delicious, canal cruise was lovely, and there was just enough time for souvenir shopping (World Cup stuff for my grandchildren). We did Bruges on our own - sharing a taxi from port to town with another couple. Loved our day there!!!! Hop On Hop Off in Copenhagen was a bit disappointing; but the shopping adjacent to the dock was great for gifts and amber. Read Less

Chose Oceania because of the itinerary (combination of Baltic Sea and Norway) and reviews. The itinerary was perfect. All ports were very interesting and added to our knowledge base (not one "bad" or "boring" port.) The ship itself was perfect. Calling it "ship shape" would be doing it a disservice. Every inch of the ship was spotless, had beautifully decorated public rooms (including the bars), and was decorated with modern art (all over!!) Food was wonderful. Got to eat in each of the 4 specialty restaurants twice. Toscana was our favorite with Pepin's and Red Ginger a close second. The Polo Grill needed help with service. We are not buffet people but with the choices and special evenings at the buffet, we ate more dinners in the buffet area than the main dining room. In Vegas you would pay at least $50 per person for something like Marina's buffet. By the way, sign up for the galley tour - fascinating! Cabin was a Penthouse Suite (#11060). Perfect - - cleaned twice a day, Butler (Roger was great), large, and comfortable. Embarkation and Disembarkation was as easy as checking out of a hotel. Smooth. Only negative (and a major one for us) - - the Port and Shore Excursions. This trip was for "old" people with the average age being at least 70. Unfortunately, a lot of them are "infirmed" in some way and going on excursions slows down and limits what you are able to see. A 4 hour excursion is more like a 3 hour excursion - - people have trouble getting on/off the bus, in/out of their seats, slow walking, trouble hearing. Our best excursions were the ones we booked ourselves through the internet. My suggestion would be to book as many "private" tours as possible. With all this said, I would certainly cruise with Oceania again. Read Less

I travel the world, but am new to luxury cruise market. We chose Marina based on itinerary, the size and the food. We didn't want too big, but not too small. It fit the bill. This was a rare cruise that stays in St. Petersburg for 3 days. We were fairly satisfied with the cruise, but there were elements that prevent me from calling it 5 star. Therefore, I doubt that I will cruise Oceania again if there are better choices around. Pros: - 2 weeks before embarkation, Oceania offered $500 per person upgrade to Suites, and we took it. Cabin was spacious, and well decorated. Walk-in closet was to die for. Bathroom was huge, with the bathtub, but shower was relatively cramped. - Overall, the staff were amazing. Especially room steward and dining room staff. - We ate at all specialty restaurants. Toscana was best, Jacque was decent, Polo Grill was so so. A lot of people like Red Ginger, but I have very high standard for Asian food. - Afternoon tea. Lovely tradition. We participated almost everyday. Cons: - I didn't like the fact that they charge $600 extra per person for liquor package, calling themselves as luxury cruise. Beverage service was horrible. Whenever you are seated in a restaurant, you need to be taken drink order first. We always had to flag down so-called sommeliers (later we learned that they become sommeliers after 1 week of training), well after dinner order was taken. When we finally flag down sommeliers, they usually start recommending bottles of wines; as soon as they hear that we have liquor package, their service gets rushed. This was probably the most unpleasant experience in this cruise. - One thing I cannot understand was, compared to all the staff who work so hard to satisfy customers, the officers, managers, and captains are so disinterested in customer service. We only saw captain having dinner with his own family. I called dining manager and general manager one day to complain about something; nothing substantial got done. - Entertainment was truly sub par. - Shore excursions were extremely expensive. I went with my own arrangement with TJ Travel and SPB Tours, and I was very satisfied. Oceania charges premium price and the experience was not quite premium. They really don't care about post cruise survey either. I don't think their quality will improve. They certainly will not retain us as repeat customers. Read Less

This is my second cruise on Oceania and true to form all of the amenities they mention and all of the service they brag about is truly only available on their concierge suites or higher. If you are in a regular room you will not get the best service or opportunities on the boat. A couple of examples. They rave about their great "specialty" restaurants. Priority is given to the upper suite classes and by the time you get on the ship or can book a reservation on line for the most part all of the reservations are taken and the best you can get is an 8:30 PM reservation just before they close. Another example you are warned repeatedly that if you are off the boat on a private tour not booked by the boat and you return to the ship late the ship will leave you. Except if you are in a penthouse suite. Our boat left late after they announced one of the penthouse guests to please contact them if they were on the boat and then an hour later a limo showed up with a family that ran and got on the ship. So if you are in the Penthouse even the rules don't apply to you. I just feel that Oceania has an attitude that they only care if you book the higher suites and spend more money. We tried to book excursions only to be told they were sold out and they put us on a waiting list but they would not tell you how the waiting list worked so how would you know if you even had a chance for an excursion. They say they have the best food of all cruises but I did not find this the case. The food is OK but unless you again are willing to spend a fortune on their "gourmet" dinners I have had similar and at times better food on other cruises. I just feel they over charge you for basic service with no real advantage to enhanced services and they don't mind letting you know because you didn't book the penthouse. Read Less

We picked this cruise mostly because of the itinerary. We wanted at least 3 days in St. Petersburg and this one gave us that, and also allowed us to see some of the less visited Baltic ports. There were no sea days and we were off the boat every day. It was an amazing trip. We did Oceania tours for three ports (Tallinn, Helsinki & Warnemunde) and Alla Tours for St. Petersburg, Riga, Klaipeda and Gdansk. The Alla tours were better: more intensive, were small groups, and were cheaper. St Petersburg was great, although I wish I had been able to more time (i.e. days) in the Hermitage, and I saw perhaps one too many gilded baroque palace and very little that dates to after the revolution. Riga was a very pleasant surprise as the Art Nouveau district was fantastic. The Curonian Spit and Malbork Castle were impressive and impressive. They were long days and long walks but I highly recommend them. The wife has celiac disease and we thought a smaller ship which focused on food might be a pleasant experience for her. We hit the jackpot and the cruise formed the heart of the best trip we’ve taken. Unlike our cruise last year on princess we didn’t get a menu for the next day’s meals. Instead we just had to ask the Maitre-D and he/she would tell us which were safe and which weren’t. They was usually a decent choice. This even worked in the Terrace cafe and we ate there often. Three of the speciality restaurants were good, similar to what we have seen on other ships, but the fourth, Red Ginger, was the best. The only negative note was the limited room service menu and hours for breakfast. WiFi was included and it was a relief not to worry about wasting precious minutes on unreliable login and logout systems. Streaming is blocked but we had downloaded enough content to get us through. The long satellite delays caused other services, like photo cloud syncing, to fail. Read Less

We booked a concierge level stateroom with the O-Life package including 5 tours. Air arrangements made by Oceania got us into Montreal late in the day. The cruise was supposed to start in Montreal but due to high river levels making passage under bridges difficult, we had to be transported to second port of call in Trois Rivieres to embark. Oceania's arrangements for transfers to the ship were abysmal. We had to wait, standing around for two hours before a bus arrived to take us to the ship and no refreshments, even water, were provided in the waiting location or on the bus. The staff handling the transfer at the airport were poorly informed regarding where buses were and what arrangements would be made for dining when we arrived at the ship after the dining venues were scheduled to close. Fortunately, buffet was kept open late to handle the many late arrivals. Our stateroom bathroom was not cleaned well when we arrived -- unclean glasses and residue on shelves in stateroom. Stateroom staff was quick to remedy problems, and were generally responsive throughout the cruise after that. The stateroom was what we expected and in good condition. Bed and linens were quite comfortable. Room was quiet. Food was, in general, quite good. Comparable or better than Crystal. We found the food and service at specialty restaurants Jacques and Red Ginger to be excellent and better than specialty restaurants on Crystal, but food and service at both Polo Grill and Toscana were major disappointments. Food at Terrace buffet and Waves grill was quite good and service and quality of coffee offerings at Baristas was great. Lectures were distinctly inferior in quality and number to Crystal offerings on the cruises we have taken with that line. Exercise classes also were more limited and the exercise instructors were a clear step below Crystal exercise classes and instructors. Most tours were excellent, although the overview tour of Dublin was uninformative and generally disappointing. Read Less

The Pros....... - Consistently brilliant service and cuisine in all 4 speciality restaurants, particularly Red Ginger and Toscana....all 4 had particularly professional and hard working Maitre D's. The Malaysian lamb special was a highlight. - Service in Martinis when Karla was on duty was spectacular; she worked the room like a Maitre'D when not mixing the perfect Martini. I've met excellent bartenders in Martinis in the past, but they've always stayed behind the bar. - Our stewardesses were exceptional....lots of small touches that I've not seen before. - Our Butler, Ram, was our best so far. He was discreet, replied to his pager rapidly, and was almost disappointed not to be given any extra tasks by us. - Reception staff were particularly friendly and efficient. This department seemed to have upped their game....on our 13 O cruises prior to this Reception had been a weak link. - New internet system seems more stable and marginally faster. - A fantastic itinerary despite the change in emabarkation port from Montreal to Trois Rivieres due to water levels on the St Laurent. - The Enrichment lectures on ocean liners were brilliant, with the lecturer pitching his presentations very well. The cons...... - Handling of the embarkation port change, our travel agent only informed us of the change on the day of embarkation at 0400 with no guidance as to how to get to Trois Rivieres. This had been hampered by a holiday weekend in the UK. Oceania UK had informed agents on the Saturday, when Miami had told them of the change on Friday........to avoid this delay Oceania in Miami should have just emailed all passengers directly to avoid this game of chinese whispers. There was also no mention of the emabarkation port change once on board. - Whilst we don't normally participate in trivia and other activities, we are normally on nodding terms at the very least with the Cruise Director. This is the first time that I have NEVER seen a Cruise Director around the ship.....quite remarkable for a 15 day cruise! His announcements were dire, describing St Pierre et Miquelon as "Very small with nothing to do". Announcements and the TV show seemed to be pitched to a more mainstream cruise line level. Activities, particularly on sea days, were uninspired. - Entertainment, despite recently touted improvements, are still pretty dire. The only difference being that the company is larger. A bunch of glee club rejects acting like prima donnas. I'm glad I don't come on O for the entertaiment.... - Canyon Ranch seemed to be deserted, and no effort was made to get people in. Staff were aloof, and seemed to form 2 cliques with the Indian manager and his fellow countrymen, and those of other nationalities....didn't seem a happy department. - Up until now, I had always found Grand Dining Room service as good as the specialities, but on this occasion it was a little erratic. No major mishaps though. Things were better at lunchtime though when the Speciality Maitre D's and Head Waiters were running the show. - Whilst still maintained to a very high standard Marina seems to be ready for a dry dock/refit. Some minor details were noticed in our suite e.g. flaking varnish on railings, carpet had been patched several times with a few frayed edges. - Destinations staff unhelpful and disinterested unless you're buying a tour, the manager with a badger style haircut was particularly unhelpful. This cruise was listed as going from Montreal to Southampton and when we booked (end of 2016 onboard) we opted to take their air/ground package. We flew first to Brussels from Manchester and then onto Montreal. Coming home (to get back to the car) Oceania booked us a BA flight from T5. Surprisingly we were the only people on our inbound Air Canada flight although we met another passenger at Montreal from Birmingham (there was a coach load came in later in the day from LHR). It was at this point we discovered that due to the level of the St. Lawrence waterway Marina could not get under the Laviolette bridge at Trois-Rivières so the cruise would start there rather than in Montreal. We were informed that our package now covered the 2hr bus ride to the new location the next day and thus we were sent on our way to the Fairmont Chateau-Champlain for the night. [Apparently Oceania had known this since the previous Friday – this was Monday – and whilst I had received three emails saying ‘Book onboard’ from them I had heard nothing about the change in plans – either directly or via my agent. When I went online that evening the website had already been changed!]. Having arrived early in the afternoon we got out and made the most of the sun in Montreal – the same the next morning too before we had to check out. The coach transfer was interesting as we saw the flooded land all the way along the road. Trois-Rivières turned out to be a lovely town and they tried very hard to do everything for us. This was their first ever turn around and they did themselves proud. We were onboard by about 1pm and our cabin (Concierge level) was ready inside 30 minutes – just time to grab some library books and a bite to eat. With an overnight in this port we now had plenty of time and made the most of it with a walk the first afternoon to get our bearings and then a longer one the next day to Le Parc de l’île Saint-Quentin where we saw the flooding first hand and had close ups with the wildlife (woodpeckers, marmots, black squirrels, tree creepers to name a few). A lovely town and the people came down to see the ship from the promenade….. The next port was Québec. The ship parks near the centre and it is a short walk through the old port and up to round town (the only walled city north of Mexico!). We followed a tourist walk (avoiding all the road works/digging) and then did the Dufferin Terrace and the Governors Walk to the Plains of Abraham before returning to the ship through Petit-Champlain. Another lovely sunny day and lots to see, good chance to try French again….. The day after was Saguenay and what a change those miles east made. We started with snow flurries and in the wind it felt below freezing – it was a shame for the locals in that few ventured far, even in the afternoon when the sun got out (although it didn’t feel much warmer!) Still the shops sold a lot of thermal wear…. A sea day next and all the usual activities onboard a cruise ship (lectures, trivia, games) as well as Oceania’s specialities – the Cuisine Centre (fee charged) and the art classes (free). Corner Brook was our first stop in Newfoundland and again we met snow flurries but soon the sun shone and we were on the free shuttle to town where we did a small trail walk (Three Bears) with views over the city and then the Corner Brook Stream and Gorge Trail. Again it was cool and the small craft market in the local mall (Sunday) did a good line in woollen gloves/hats. The next day we were in France. St Pierre and Miquelon are a group of islands just off Newfoundland that is a self-governing overseas territory of France (spot the tricolor and EU flags). Today was sunny but with a cold wind and whilst we took a shuttle into town we walked back (Monday today and a lot of shops/services are closed). In the afternoon we climbed the hill behind the ship and did a hike to Cap a l’Aigle viewpoint and then beyond two lakes (Etang Frecker) into the country. Its quite bleak and grey beyond the treeline but the views were great. We then had to do another immigration into Canada to be able to call at St. Johns. St. John’s was much acclaimed by many onboard compared to the previous three ports (more to do, bigger place, more shops) but I’d enjoyed exploring the smaller locations and we had plenty to see and walk. We walked from the ship up Signal Hill and then round on a circular route past Ladies Lookout , Cuckold Bay – where Marconi’s message was received – and into Quidi Vidi village and harbour (very quaint) before heading back to town past the lake. We even manged to find a coffee shop for lunch with live local music – impromptu but fun. It was warmer here but strange to see so many homeless/beggars – including younger girls – they were all polite though. We left Canada at 2pm and then it was three days across the Atlantic. This was our first ocean crossing and we weren’t sure we would find enough to do (that we liked). The first full day was a bit bumpy but realistically it was a very smooth crossing – just grey and cool all the way. It was also quite windy – one day had a 30+knot wind across the deck and the upper decks were all closed for safety. This led to the walkers being inventive (indoors and out) to do their daily exercise! Finally, landfall at Cobh (for Cork). Immigration had to be completed (face to face) onboard before you could go ashore. Cobh is a lovely little place with lots to see, it was the last landfall of the Titanic of course. Cork is a train ride away (the station is next to the ship) but most people decided after their visit it wasn’t worth it – another ‘big city’. It also had a few demonstrations on – one in support of the Palestinians and then a couple both for and against the repeal of the 8th amendment. Next day (Sunday) was Dublin and a chance to see the Book of Kells. I’d booked my tickets online before we left home and it certainly jumped the queue (even at 10am) but it was so busy. Lots of tour groups of course – some of whom didn’t seem that interested… The Trinity College Library is just awesome. Monday was Holyhead (Holy Island off Anglesey) and whilst most of the tours went to North Wales we made the most of the sun and warmth and walked the Anglesey Coastal path – friends went to Treaddur Bay on the bus. The shuttle here was provided by the town and it became swamped at lunchtime (especially as it coincided with a ferry loading for Dublin – traffic jam!). Much better result for the day than we imagined. Then our final half day at sea (working our way round Wales and Cornwall to Portland) so plenty of time to be packed before our trip into Weymouth. The town put on the shuttle again which dropped us near the old port. Again, it was a bit of an issue getting back at peak time, but the sun was shining, and it could have been worse – just a shame there was no drop off near Chesil Beach for a walk. Then overnight into Southampton and the easternmost pier (splendid view of all the cars for export!) and the start of the trip home. Disembarkation was easy and efficient. This was a great itinerary (interesting ports and a mid-Atlantic crossing) spoilt by the weather. We concluded that Marina with her open deck, no covered pool and constrained inside space is not such an appropriate choice where good weather is not guaranteed. I would however love to do these ports in Canada again later in the season when everything was open and active and see the ‘real’ region. Otherwise we enjoyed the cruise and met some interesting people. There were more Brits than usual (about 200 in 1230) but we were still well outnumbered by the North Americans. Quite a few had done the previous voyage as a back to back (from Miami up the eastern seaboard) and some were carrying on for the next voyage down the coast of France and Spain. We had over 800 Oceania Club (past passengers) members onboard and the highest ranking had sailed over 900 days at sea with Oceania. The food was very good although I’m glad to report portion sizes in the speciality restaurants had reduced slightly which I was all in favour of. The Grand Dining Room continued to shine with different menus every day. Many people made use of it for breakfast and lunch too. Afternoon Tea was usually busy and now features ‘special days’ such as Cupcake Tea, Éclair Tea and Chocolate Tea. The Vegan breakfast bar (for smoothies, juices and other non-dairy options) in Waves Grill worked well and I enjoyed the variety on offer. Staff were friendly and helpful although there were one or two small language issues across counters. The Terrace Café buffet was fully served which obviously helps control health issues and food wastage. We also noted toiletries were replaced based on consumption and thus there were times when you ran quite short until the next service; another small cost cutting exercise I presume. Restocking and refuelling seem to occur in various locations throughout the voyage and this seemed to work well as the fresh fruit held to the end (even if the natural Greek yoghurt ran out with three days to go). Rather than take a drinks package we chose the 7-bottle wine package (effectively half a bottle a day) and between that, buying the odd drink and the Captains Cocktail reception (free drinks for all on one evening for a couple of hours) that was more than enough for our requirements on the 15-day sailing. WiFi is available free to all (one item per stateroom) but it was very slow at times – especially on sea days. It also restricts access to streaming and video. You can pay extra for access to such sites – but then access doesn’t guarantee bandwidth to use them! The coffee shop, Baristas, was again well used and seemed a focus of the ship at times. The main crew were Italian females who worked in the mornings (doing service in Toscana in the evening). Other bar staff took the afternoon shift. Behind this is the library and I felt disappointed that there seemed less books than previously (we were on early and went straight there and allowing for the back to backers). I didn’t see that many new books and the shelf labelled New York Times Best Sellers was used for other purposes. The Guest Exchange had also disappeared – people dropped them wherever rather than in the Games Room where the shelf was designated but poorly filled. The Concierge Lounge was nearly always busy, and its coffee machine struggled for a while before breaking down under the strain. Eventually three engineers turned up to replace it with a new one. The Spa Deck to which we have access was used sparingly due to the weather – even some sunny times were closed due to the wind. The new Concierge inclusion of up to three bags of laundry (max. of 20 items per bag) worked well for us although I still did a big self-wash/dry on the last at sea morning so I came home with almost everything clean. This bundled laundry was offered across the ship on some days at a fixed price (circa $25), the launderette is still $4 for a wash and dry. The balcony was not used as much as usual because of the weather conditions but I did use it in port on a few days. Read Less

Constantly returning food as not acceptable Bed mattress was burst and I had to sleep on the small double seater until they finally replaced it (approx 12-14 days) Argumentative security personnel, they issued new keycards halfway through the cruise , we got them AFTER we had left for the day. They were placed in our room.... Food in most meal areas dried out under heat lamps. I wouldn’t recommend this cruise to my worst enemy Ended up eating off the ship ( at addition expense) to be sure of HOT food. We want the only ones very disappointing with the food, many others expressed their concerns Wrote to the company but got the usual corporate fob off and a pathetic offer of $300 AUD credit to another cruise. We recently decided to pursue more healthy diet lifestyle and noticed an Oceania brochure cover advertising “The Finest Vegan Fare Afloat”. Based on that ad, we signed up for a cruise on the Marina from Miami to Montreal, April 22-May 8, 2018 (Seaside Sojourn). We also had a number of pre-voyage email communications with a Special Services Coordinator at Oceania, regarding our dietary requests. Having been on over 60 cruises without a significant dietary complaint, we know what to expect from cruise food. We also know that most cruise passengers are not there for healthy food, but they were not enticed by a brochure promising that. We were disappointed from day one when the veggie burger was served with french fries and the “steamed vegetables” in Terrace Cafe were buttered. Many choices in the dining room may have been technically vegan, but they were by no means healthy. They were high fat and high calorie. Multiple requests to minimize fat and oil were ignored. Because vegan requests were unusual, miscommunication was common. Delays of 30-60 minutes were typical. One time after waiting more than an hour for our first lunch course, we had to leave. (We had scheduled a personal training session in the fitness center which we would have still been charged for if we didn't show up). One of the dining room staff literally ran after us holding a plate of food and told us to "eat fast" in the chairs near the hostess stand. We were dumbfounded by this suggestion- this was not a fast food joint! When we complained about this event, the individual denied that he said that. We eventually gave up and went back to a standard diet. Our frustrating “vegan” experience ruined many hours of the voyage and overshadowed other good experiences on the ship. The promise of healthy vegan food was the only reason we took the voyage, and we did not get what we paid for. Breakfasts and non-vegan selections were always satisfactory. Other than our problem with dining, many other aspects of the ship were wonderful. The cabin, most activities, and fitness center were first class. Although the itinerary was interesting, the excursions were very expensive and did not appeal to us. The weather was very hot for the first few days which somewhat limited exploring on our own. Unfortunately we were not able to dock in Montreal for our overnight visit. The water level was too high for the ship to pass under the bridges. We had to dock at another port and wait a day and a half to get bussed into Montreal for our return flight. This was obviously beyond the control of any cruise line. There were two lecturers on board. The one who spoke about space travel was excellent. Most of the entertainers were average for ships. None were memorable. The singers and dancers offered the best shows of the bunch. They were fabulous. There was significant delay for embarkation. Although we were allowed to board the ship at about 1pm, we had to stay in the public areas. Passengers were not allowed to go to their cabins until after 3pm. Concierge and above passengers were allowed in their cabins earlier. No explanation was given for the delay. It was particularly difficult for passengers who were on red eye flights from West coast. I am always surprised that Oceania offers free coach fare for its voyages, but charges very high fees for ship transfers from airport and vice-versa. To my knowledge, most other cruise lines do not do that. (At least I personally have never been charged transfer fees if the cruise line arranged the flights). I heard many complaints from long-time cruisers about this voyage. The good points include a beautiful ship and cabin. The itinerary sounded a lot better on paper that it turned out to be. If you love rich fancy food and are lucky enough to get a reservation at one of the specialty restaurants, you will have a fabulous meal. Getting a reservation prior to 8:30pm might be difficult unless you are in a concierge cabin or above. In summary, we will not sail on Oceania again. Any business should really think twice before disagreeing with a customer. The experience of one dining room lunch turned me against Oceania. There are other wonderful cruise lines out there and none of their employees have implied that I was lying about an incident. Read Less

However, we purposefully left behind our personal computers and electrical outlet adaptors because the ADVERTISEMENT said 120 outlets and a personal computer would be provided, along with FREE internet. The actuality of the situation was that this boat was built in ITALY, and half the outlets were the standard Italian recessed oval double plug outlets!! The "free" internet service was the ABSOLUTE WORST I've ever had on a cruise, but, of course, there was an 'upgrade' provided for a cost, of course, of course, of course!! The 'provided' laptop was an old one with the speed of a 2088 operating system, and even the internet guy on board said he never advises anyone to use the provided computers!!! Although the suite was very nice, It was small compared to others I've had at the same level of service and price. Most of the staff were friendly, but some were very rude, especially those at the Waves grill taking orders!!! An occasional guest was rude, and when I reported one or two, I got nowhere with the staff. Most of the staff spoke good English, but there was the occasional staff who could basically understand nothing I asked. We love Oceania for its amazing service and outstanding food quality and variety. We've been sailing on Oceania for the past 15 years and just got off the Marina yesterday. This was an unusual itinerary since it had so many sea days (which we both love). We boarded the ship in Papette, visited 4 ports in French Polynesia and then sailed to Hawaii and visited 4 island ports there. We sailed 5 days from Kawaii to Los Angeles where we disembarked. We really enjoyed the ship's excursions. We did an excursion in every port. We enjoy nature, birds and photographing beautiful landscapes - we were not disappointed. The Pacific Ocean was as calm as a lake (we were quite lucky). We had perfect weather on every port day and all but one sea day. Our butler proved outstanding service - including room service breakfast on disembarkation day. We have booked a 30 day voyage August, 2019 sailing from London to NYC - visiting Iceland, Greenland and some of Europe. That will complete 31 Oceania cruises for us. Read Less

We flew from Brisbane to Papeete via Auckland with Qantas/Air Tahiti Nui to join Marina's 18 day Pacific Stars Cruise. Frankly, Air TN could teach Qantas a thing or two re "in flight" service. We flew home ex LA with Qantas and that was ordinary also. About the cruise! From the beginning we have now totalled nine cruises, all on Marina since she was launched in 2011.Reason? Because you got 41/2 star treatment. That is until our eighth cruise two years ago or so. Things seemed not the same. Mainly in the areas of catering, entertainment and shipboard activities. However, we made no comment thinking that maybe we had come to expect too much, but enough to decide to find another shipping line. After two years having in mind the good times on Marina we booked again on this Cruise. Without exaggeration we were disappointed. 1) Firstly, the staff generally, as always, were first class. Our Penthouse Suite was again exceptionally presented and serviced. The ship, generally, is clean and maintained as good as new. 2) But Oceania's reputation for fine catering in the Buffet Terraces is so obviously a result of cost cutting and poor quality it is unbelievable at the price. We experienced cheap meat cuts in stews, cold cauldron soups, Tough poultry hacked and served by amateurs. Mexican food poorly prepared and regularly presented. The carvery meat section offered cheap cuts and so on. Three times on different occasions we caught the ear of a rarely seen supervisory chef and they tested and agreed the soups were cold and they allowed staff to go on serving same, Finally, we celebrated Easter Sunday lunch by being treated to a Mexican unappetising set of dishes once more. 3) The Speciality Restaurants were, except for Toscana, definitely up to standard. Toscana, over several cruises, in our opinion, could be improved. 4) It is general knowledge from our experience over many cruises on Marina the entertainment is not their "long suit" ! Having said that one always had the option of retreating to the cabin and enjoying the latest movies. Not now, it seems like the cost cutter has been their too. But for one or two exceptions all we saw was video shop rejects. 5) If the general catering could emulate the wonderful and so professional cake and dessert experienced on Marina we would be talking five star here! 6) One could always enjoy and relax to professional chamber music performed by beautiful ladies in various venues such as Horizons. Not any more! The cost cutter was here too! In closing, it hurts us to say that for the money you pay Oceania in the hands of its new owner has slipped down to a 3 1/2 star rating, saved only by its excellent staff and commendable house keeping . We had cruise three time she fore on Celebrity Solstice class before (Caribbean and twice in Mediterranean). We have just discovered a whole new world with Oceania. Oceania is for you if : (1) You like luxury at an affordable price (the fact that alcoholic drinks are not included in the base price (compared to other luxury cruise lines) help to reduce the costs for those of us who can get by with a few drinks a day. (2) You love excellent food. Except for the main restaurant which was ok (a bit less quality than the main dining room on Solstice class in our experience), the rest is awesome. How many pool grills out there have Florida lobster and tenderloin burgers for lunch? We ordered them without buns. They were awesome with delicious fries. Also, the buffet is really good. Again, Florida lobster tails, lamb chops, sirloin steaks, etc every night. And snow crab claws at least three or four times during the cruise. Absolutely delicious buffet. The four specialty restaurants are very good. I stuffed myself with Dover sole at the French restaurant (Jacques) twice and at the Italian one. My wife was delighted with her rack of veal at Jacques and her tenderloin at Polo Grill. Red Ginger was also a favorite with lobster pad thai and miso crusted sea bass (the best sea bass you will ever have, trust me). (3) You like great service. Both of our room attendants as well as almost all the crew were both highly efficient and very nice. (4) You enjoy little touches of luxury like white gloves afternoon tea with scones, whipped cream, clotted cream, etc. And a very talented string quartet that has a very large repertoire of classical music. (5) You do not like to pay for everything : free bottles of water, free pop, free specialty coffee and free specialty restaurants! Of course, the destination was very romantic with all ports of calls (except Nuku Hiva) very interesting, no....wonderful. Ah Bora Bora... Tips : (1) You may want to do your own air booking. It costs more to do your own booking, BUT you arrive and leave when you want. For example, we arrived three days before the cruise and left two days after. We don’t like to be rushed and it allowed us to both adjust to the time difference and check the prices of items before leaving for the islands on the cruise. (2) In French Polynesia, you want to buy pearls : the range of colors and the quality are unbelievable. Wait for Fakarava and Rangiroa in the Tuamotu Islands. This is where most pearl farms are located and the variety and price-quality ratio are unbeatable. Will we go ba k with Oceania? We have already booked our next cruise... Read Less

We chose this cruise based on recommendations from others who used Oceania and its reputation as an upscale cruise line. The service was incredible. I think the fact that we were in a large suite may have helped, don't know for sure, but the fact that we were greeted by name the first night at the specialty restaurants was impressive. The room was great, the butler Mani was fantastic, and everyone on board was friendly and helpful. It was our first "sea trials" cruise since my wife has an issue with motion sickness, but the Marina proved to be very stable in the Pacific. Only on one night she was a bit queasy on the long trip north to the Marquesas, but was not too bad. The service was better than I have had in any hotels and the wait staff as good if not better than any restaurants. We enjoyed it very much, so much so we booked 2 more cruises with Oceania. Houskeeping even arranged our shoes back in the closet! The food was great. We preferred the specialty restaurants and the magnificently decorated Grand Dining room. They were quieter and more relaxed than the buffet and we were not in a hurry, even for breakfast. We especially liked having our breakfast in the suite. The terrace cafe was too crowded and we felt jostled while trying to get food. There was a nice variety of food there, but people were standing over tables waiting for seats at times. People would sit there grazing for hours if they had no trips ashore or the ship was at sea and occupying all the tables. On those days we went to the Grand Dining room for breakfast or lunch as it was usually empty and much more relaxed, even if there were fewer menu choices. We like the quality atmosphere rather than quantity. You are afforded that choice. The suite afforded us more access to the specialty restaurants, Polo-Steak, Toscana-Italian, Red Ginger-Oriental, and Jacques-French. All were good but Jacques was some of the best French food we have ever had, even better than in Paris IMHO. The Chef Geno was a true "Genius". Do youself a favor, try Jacques even if you do not have a reservation included. Best French food EVER in my humble opinion.! In Tahiti, the ships excursions were good, convenient and planned well, albeit expensive I think. If you are not in Tahiti for Diving or watersports, there is only so much sightseeing available. If you are budget conscious, you may do better by renting a car or taxi, but the cruise ships pretty much use up all the local transportation. Divers on board seemed to do better booking their own trips onshore. One person paid a local in Huahine to drive him around for $20 he said. Even drop off and a pick up later at the beach? Caveat emptor. The scenery is gorgeous. The ports except for 2 require tenders which require a little more planning. The tender crews were efficient and accomodated the handicapped. Not a cruise for children or even teenagers. The onshore attractions are mainly scenic which is spectacular. Some of the others (see Trip Advisor) were a bit contrived and touristy, but ok for a few hours. I.E. One pearl farm was real, the other was just a gift shop, a vanilla farm was also a gift shop. I found better prices on pearls in COSTCO and NY, so unless you want a souvenir, do some research if you want a low price. Be aware that Oceania has a 36hr cancellation policy if you change your mind on shore excursions. There were excursions for limited mobility persons. Check the info on the Oceania website. The live entertainment on board, other than the culinary classes was just average. We are spoiled being so close to NY and Broadway maybe?. The entertainers tried hard, but "missed" a few notes. This combined with the fact that they start at 9:30 and we were usually tired, limited our participation. Some folks liked it, most others so-so. I would not cruise for the entertainment. We did miss the comic, which I heard was good. We did like the piano player in the Lounge and the afternoon tea with the Chamber music was delightful. The pastries were enough to satisfy anyone's sweet tooth. The Captains cocktail party was definitely worth attending. Our room was wonderful. Having a large room, although more expensive, allowed us some quiet privacy with enough space that we did not need to use a lounge to spread out. The hot tub on the deck with the TV was over the top too. It was windy on the front of the ship, and they tied down the furniture at night, but that was not an issue for us. Other folks did have an issue with this in prior reviews, but we did not. The staff was there in the am and set it out again every day. But being in the front of the ship and watching as we entered the next island anchorage was priceless. We did get "scolded" one night by the captain because we did not draw the curtains at night while underway. We were at dinner and were late so we forgot. We had a polite but assertive phone message telling us the captain was not pleased. Our room was directly below the bridge and the glare affected their visibility. The butler dealt with it, but were definitely "scolded". The room had a small excercise room with two machines which we used once or twice, but It became more of a storage room for the cushions, chargers, etc. Would be better as a bedroom or study I think. TV was limited but had nice previews of the ports. Also, Jacques Pepin had his own cooking channel which I liked, but we were not really there for TV except to check th News on CNN and MSNBC etc. Won't find your sitcoms, but we did have a library of movies. Liked the binoculars in the drawer, but found them by accident. Understand you are in the middle of the Pacific and the Internet is not what you have at home. UNLIMITED Internet means 24 hr unlimited access, NOT UNLIMITED BANDWITH. Streaming applications are not supported, video conference, etc. You are sharing the satellite connection with 1500 other guests and crew so if you set your expectaions and enjoy the ship and scenery and save the internet for home, you will be less dissapointed. ITS SLOW,,,,, PERIOD! Our houskeeping was great. Bulgari amenities nice, fruit everyday and welcome bottle of top shelf champagne. We had 6 bottles of top shelf liquor which sufficed so we did not get the liquor plan. We opted for a glass or bottle of wine at dinner. One nice thing the sommelier told us is that we could save the unconsumed bottle for the next night at a different restaurant. They vacumn sealed it and brought it the next night. This was good because my wife does not like red and I did not want to drink or waste the rest of a bottle, especially an expensive one. Also liked the wine tasting of the "old school" wines. They had a great selection, including Tignanello one of my favotites. Don't always see some top end wines at a tasting. The beverage director really knew his wines and regions. A nice upscale break from more local or touristy winery tastings. The wine markup was not outrageous for the higher end wines. A bottle of Tignanello, although pricey and retails for $90, was $140 on board for a reference. You can also get a decent chard in the $45 range. Boarding was fine. Transfers for our 8:30 am flight great. Although a suite is expensive, when you add up the perks, it helps defer some of that cost. Early boarding, more excursions, more specialty dining, liquor, butler service, really added to the experience. A splurge, yes, but when spending your kids inheritance, who cares! LOL The VISTA suite has all the perks, more than enough room, and all of the perks of the owners suite. Usually sells out first. Air Tahiti is not bad, but if you are tall its tight in coach. Sit on the outside. No Economy plus seating. Try for the newer plane. First class is good, but very very expensive. In summary, wonderful trip, great service, great food, great room, average entertainment for my taste.. Will go again, booked 2 more cruises. What more can I say but a Perfect Vacation! We did the B2B second cruise sailing on March 7th, itinerary was spectacular.....Let's start with embarkation, the smoothest we have ever had walked on got checked in and that was it, all of maybe 5 minutes. The Marina is a gorgeous ship with a fabulous layout, beautifully appointed with the most tasteful decor I have seen on a ship. The crew was amazing, I did not encounter one crew member without a smile, cordial greeting and upbeat positive energy. We were in a Penthouse suite on Deck 11 midship that was homey, clean and positively beautiful, tranquility bed that offered the most welcome sleep, walk in closet with ample hangers, drawers, overhead shelving and a bathroom to die for! The deck was perfect for anytime of day due to overhang of deck 12 shading from the intense sun of the South Pacific, great for afternoon 15 min snoozes to prepare for your evening antics. Our butler Vinod was unbelievable, always anticipating our every need with fantastic suggestions for dining and activities, Dujon our room attendant was so detail oriented, organized and again anticipating our every need so much so that if I had the means to steal both of them I would! Dining was out of this world, there was not a item we tried that was not first class, perfectly cooked and memorable from the main dining room to of course the specialty restaurants. The perfect start to our day and treat following returning to the ship after very busy ports was to the Barista's, they were fantastic, fun and made wonderful coffee that made us smile with each and every sip. We did not attend a lot of the entertainment due to the one production time that usually overlapped with our dining however we did catch the comedians who were good clean fun. I can't even imagine a nicer ship, better crew and impeccable service that we had with Oceania's Marina however we do look forward to our next cruise with Oceania to have another wonderful experience! Not a regular cruiser, I was lured in by a university alumni association brochure. Even though there were some negatives, This cruise ended up being the vacation of a lifetime. What my husband and I liked: Embarkation: Smooth, efficient, quick, and without fanfare. We especially liked that there were no sales pitches or photo promotions before getting to our room. Dining: Authentic French croissants, French baguettes, fresh fruit and vegetable smoothies for breakfast, Cappuccino and expresso options for breakfast and in bar near library, fresh seafood salad for lunch- it was a foodie heaven - and those were outside the specialty restaurants. We loved the four specialty restaurants, especially Red Ginger and Polo a Grill. The variety of choices and quality was excellent wherever we went. We really liked that we could reserve ahead of embarkation. Our food waiters were accommodating, personable, and reliable, making dining a pleasure. It was harder to secure reservations at these after our initial reservations ended, but on the nights we ate in the Grand Dining Room, we thought the food was very good. We took advantage of the Wine Spectator dining experience twice and very much enjoyed the menus and wine pairings both nights. Afternoon tea at 4 PM with white gloved service and live classical music was amazing and the icing on the cake of luxury. Happy Hour at Horizons was festive and the band worked hard to accommodate requests. A Negative: Purchasing the seven bottle wine package was a hassle. Upon boarding we were directed to the main reception desk where we were given brochures for the two more expensive wine packages. When we persisted in the seven bottle package , we were redirected to a bar , where we were redirected to a restaurant. We were then told to purchase from our first sommelier. That night our sommelier told us “ no , you don’t want to purchase the package. It’s better to buy by the bottle.” We knew it wasn’t. The next day we were finally able to buy the 7 bottle package. On our final night, our sommelier told us our package was done. We asked to see our consumption history. A half hour later, we were told we indeed had a bottle left. Our wine package experience was disappointing. The stateroom: we really liked our room, 10091. It was quiet and near a main elevator and stairway. We found the room adequate in size with ample closet space and drawer space for our clothes, and I’m not a light packer! I really liked that the desk doubled as a vanity for hair drying and styling. We also liked having a couch and coffee table for the few times we wanted to relax in the room. Our bed was very comfortable and the linens were sumptuous. The bathroom was pretty and modern. As others have said, it’s a bit odd because there is a separate and smallish ( for average size people) shower stall and a full bathtub with shower. My husband used the bathtub the first night; I used the tub shower the next morning, but we found it most useful for hanging wet swimsuits and beach shoes because of the handy laundry line attached to both ends of the tub. We loved the balcony and used it to rejuvenate daily. Bathroom Storage space for toiletries was generous and exceeded my expectations. Housekeeping service was efficient, friendly, and reliable. Canyon Ranch Spa: This was one of the highlights of the ship. We opted for the six massage package and enjoyed our experiences very much. Anzelika was a caring, skilled professional who gave me some great tips and resources to use at home. I had a free orthotic consultation and came away better informed about how to take care of my arches. My husband and I loved the spa guest sun deck area, the wave chaise, and the separate sauna and steam room facilities. A negative: I added a manicure appointment near the end of the trip. It became a jarring surprise when my technician was tardy and then discourteous and haughty. This was the only cruise staff I encountered in 10 days who wasn’t friendly and professional. Ports: We loved all the ports. We especially liked renting bikes on our own from locals in Fakarava and just walking and exploring on our own in Rangiroa. We chose the 8 ‘free’ excursions as part of our cruise and liked most but found our choices of excursions were limited to mostly bus tours. We found our guides very informative but some of the same themes were repeated: pearl farms and ancient ceremonial sites. Our favorite excursion was a separate one we booked that took us out for snorkeling and swimming. Next time I would choose the ship credit and book excursions on my own. Disembarkation: Smooth, efficient, organized. Even though there were a few negatives, Oceania Marina delivered an outstanding experience filled with relaxing, luxurious amenities and features. Left Lima 18 days quickly became apparent novo virus on board. Food went down hill service, laundry was close all lounges closed, all facilities closed, no coffee machines open. 18 days later now nothing in cabins and plastic cups for water. Novo Virus happens so learn to deal with it, we have all paid for luxury and ended up at Macdonalds! Staff very helpful but when so much of the ship is closed or events do not take place it’s become more of a prison than a Luxury Cruise. We were not I’ll but we might as well have been. Dreadful handing of a comman problem on Cruise Ships you dealt with it very badly. Lima be advised there is no shad on the dock and you are boarded straight onto the ship, some people in direct sun standing for two hours plus. Crews managed extremely well with Easter Island tenders my hats off to them. Don’t let this put you off for the first 5 days it was excellent we then filled in mid way Cruise comments and sadly went downhill next day. Read Less

Beautiful ship decor to match any 6 star hotel. How ever...... When faced with a gastric bug hitting crew and staff leaving Lima and continuing for the full length of our trip never being under control, we both suffered the day after leaving the ship. The jacuzzis were never closed or the pool. Activities were curtailed so the saving to Ociana must have been huge. Trivia was cancelled because they had not enough pens? No sail away party’s, no end of Cruise party. Executive suit closed no tea or coffee for cabins only room service which was slow due to the large amount of people just tying to get a cup of coffee. All self service tea and coffee machines closed. We have never had to drink so much coke or lemonade as it was easter to get hold of. Laundry was closed so no access even to the iron. Offered half price laundry but when the finale end of cruse itemised invoice arrived no reduction, question this and was told we had used the wrong form? The suites were slowly stripped over a period of a week of any luxury items, the day before we disembarked we were down to cheap plastic cups instead of glasses in our room. We had a penthouse suite that we paid a lot of money for started out a very lovely room ended up looking like a basic room no frills in a cheap hotel. I complained my holiday ended in 5 days time not today and was told they need time to sanitize all items in the rooms. Ociana this is not my problem, Ociana that’s your problem. Dinning areas was impacted on in the main dining room lunch was cancelled, leaving the Waves grill and the buffet only for lunch, not what signed up for beef burger and chips or salads. Entertainment on leaving Lima poor string quartet were depressing and gloomy. Excellent enrichment leactures James Peterkin. Excellent ports and tender crews were extremely helpful. Excellent ventriloquist we needed a lift the day he arrived and he gave us one very funny. Onboard show team were very good. People who are Embassidors for Ociana were disgusted with the way the problem on board was delt with never had they experianced anything like this Cruise. Both end of Cruise box’s were full to over flowing never on any cruse have I seen this I can garentee 100% were complaints. People went down and cancelled the gratuities, they were so disgusted with the treatment of customers. We could not as ours were prepaid but would have. Dear old Captain gave out no information at all, made no broadcast ref the problem, and we were at no time offered an explanation about what was going on. Lima be warned in Jan 2018 there is no priority boarding and no shade, you are boraded from the docside, many guest suffered sunburn on day one. 2-3 hours people were stood in the bright sunshine.( no seats) So you pay your money to get what standard you want and get Bradley let down by management on Ocieana. I have to agree all that has been said regards the lack of communication on this ship during the gastric virus outbreak, Marina is a beautiful ship.The food very good and the staff we saw,work very hard and are a benefit to the company. But,we could not understand how the captain allowed some aspects of the ship open.Why could we not put dollars in the laundry machines,yet we could put dollars in the slot machines for the full length of the cruise.We could play tennis,golf and ping pong using all the sport equipment with no cleaning in between use,yet we couldn’t play trivia.We could play black jack but not get fresh coffee.We could all use umbrellas daily,with no cleaning between use,yet have paper menus.The gym ,which is well known as a source of cross infection,remained open as did jacuzzis.We had ice removed yet daily fruit delivered. Our Oceania suite started to be stripped 5 days before disembarkation.When you save for two years for a suite to celebrate two special occasions,you expect on your final day to have what you had on your first day.To get back to your suite and find all the gorgeous books tied in white trash bags and dumped on a table with the extra roll of trash bags,you realise your dream has ended.Silver trays removed,glasses removed,champagne bucket removed,bathroom baskets removed,menus removed,etc,etc.Our cabin was not vacuumed in any way for four days. If we could have been told what and why, maybe we would have understood.But it seemed very sneaky that every time we left the cabin someone sneaked in and removed something.It was uncomfortable. We foresaw the gastric outbreak, with passengers not using any sanitation when entering or leaving restaurants as soon as we embarked. The officers were nowhere to be seen and all Reserve bookings and meals with staff were cancelled. Sadly,despite all the positives of the ship and crew,we will remember our holiday of a lifetime with great sadness. Oceania had the same problem in 2015 and in passengers eyes they haven’t learnt a thing.Extremly poor communication. Read Less

It all starts from the very beginning embarkation in Lima; Since Oceania did not informed us that the embarkation in Lima would be very different than one would expect we did experienced a nightmare; Both our faces and décolleté where sunburned because ( just coming from the airport ) we have to stand in the burning sun for more then 2 hours in line before we could embark a touringcar which transported us to the ship. ( see enclosed photo of sunburn ) During staying in line, dockworkers where constantly trying to get a tip in touching our suitcases, if it was from the taxi in to the waiting line or from the line into the bus. ( very frustrating experience ) Arriving at the dock we had to wait another hour to get on the ship. At least ships staff did distributed small bottles with water. The first day at sea we made an official complaint about the above with the executive concierge Tom, this did result in a meeting with your general manager Mr. Claudio Melli. This meeting was very disappointing, Mr. Melli could only mentioning the fact that this was the fault of your Lima port agent and regretted the fact that we had this bad embarkation experience. Only a warm handshake and that was all, not offering any compensation or gestures like a bottle wine, nothing ! Being a cruise expert for more than 25 years ( mainly HAL and Cunard ) we never had such experience with a general manager ( Hotel Manager ) After approximately one week cruising we did notice that the menu’s in the restaurant where without hardcover, by coincidence some of the waiters told us that this was regarding health regulation since there was a virus onboard. After 2 days ! all guests where informed about a virus onboard and not days before as it should have been. During that time ( until the last days of the cruise ) the executive lounge was closed, library, guest laundry etc. But the casino did stayed open !!!! We all know nowadays that the norovirus is a tread of every cruise line, but was this a norovirus onboard the Marina ??? No information was given to all guests. Laundry services, not long ago your company provides a complementary laundry service to the guests in suites, however without pressing ( = only one time ). If you provide a complementary laundry service you should also includes pressing, either you offer the complete service or nothing. ( HAL offers the complete service to guests 4 star mariners and Neptune suite guests ) How to give guest the impression that the cruise is over one day earlier, well by taking the bathrobes, complementary toilet amenities, 50% of the towels, toothbrush drinkingcups etc. out of the bathroom. Taking the drinking glasses out of the cabin and replace them by plastic ones. ( see photo ) Never ever had seen this during cruises with other cruise companies. A shame ! Food: Ocean Cruises prides it selves on here excellent food, well the quality in the specialty restaurants are not bad but be aware we had also overcooked tuna in Jacques and an overcooked crispy chicken in Polo Grill. Would I recommend Oceania to friends, no I would not. Read Less

The South Pacific Islands and Easter Island had been on the bucket list for years, and we finally decided to take the plunge, sailing from Lima, Peru to Papeete, Tahiti on our favorite cruise line. Unfortunately it became apparent several days into the cruise that some folks were suffering gastro illnesses, which turned into a full blown outbreak of Noro virus. The crew did their level best to staunch the spread, but, alas, we all know how insidious that illness can be. As I said, the crew did their best. And I'm happy to report that most of the passengers with whom I had contact made the best of a bad situation. Perhaps we were just lucky, but none of my new-found and old friends got sick. Guess we were careful about washing hands and using sanitizers provided everywhere on board. Just wish all had done so! As I just said, we made the best of the situation and were able to enjoy a fabulous cruise, and we were not disappointed. As I mentioned, Easter Island (Rapa Nui, its traditional name) was on our itinerary for a two day opportunity to visit the island. We were fortunate to have as an on-board lecturer James Grant-Peterkin, a long time resident of the island. He was great, and each of his lectures turned out to be standing room only! And a group of CC members (ourselves included) had pre-booked the two day tour on EI with the tour company he owned, Easter Island Spirit, which certainly did not disappoint us in any way! I'm sure many of you know just how 'iffy' it is to be able to go ashore on EI due to the sea swells usually encountered in this area of the Pacific, but I'm happy to report that the Marina was blessed to be able to accomplish this on not one, but both days. An experience not to be missed! Two days later we had the residents of Pitcairn Island board the ship with offerings made on the island. A great opportunity to meet these hardy folks. Our on-board experience on this cruise was exceptional, which we have come to expect on Oceania (discounting the MINOR inconveniences of not having use of the self-service laundry and coffee machines). The entire staff who worked like dogs to control the noro, from cabin attendents through upper staff members, retained their cheerful, friendly attitudes. I'm sure the additional sanitizing duties had them all worn out, but you would never see it either in their faces nor their attitudes. They all deserved our gratitude, not our criticism! The Marina was in her usual pristine condition - again discounting the noro, which was not the ship's fault, but rather the fault of those passengers who either picked up the bug on their flights or neglected rudimentary personal sanitation procedures. All dining venues continued to please our personal preferences, and service was exemplary. Kudos to all! Will we be back? OF COURSE! In closing, I just want to point out a few items that folks here seem to blame Oceania for both of which are, and will continue to be, out of their control: boarding in Callao (Lima's port city) is not an Oceania shortfall; rather the blame lies with the port authority which owns/manages the port. And secondly, the outbreak of noro which is solely attributable to the passengers failure to practice hand washing/sanitizing, and to report illness promptly! Read Less

A fabulous crossing from Barcelona to Miami. The absolute best cuisine at sea. Despite the December transAtlantic, the ocean cooperated with calm seas and mild weather. The ship, service, LaReserve, food & wine at its best! We enjoy sea days, having experienced 6 crossings. Marina (and sister ship) are the largest ships we ever cruise - a perfect size for us. Food quality is reliably superb. Wine selections generous by the glass - and good variety of premium wine for dinner venues. Barista's coffee bar is an early morning gathering place for cruisers. Fitness Center is busy on sea days mid-mornings; the band/orchestra played good jazz, easy listening, and dancing music. Pianist offered excellent arrangements and easy music for pre-dining cocktails. Wish we had booked a B2B and stayed on board for the next leg of the itinerary. Peaceful and beautiful relaxing cruise across the Atlantic Ocean. We'll be back! Read Less
