I booked this cruise as I wanted to experience Oasis but wasn't that impressed with her Caribbean itinerary she was coming to Europe and we enjoyed our last transatlantic so we went for it. EMBARKATION : Got there at 12:30 queues where huge so we dropped our luggage and went into Southampton for lunch we went back at 4:30 walked straight on and went to our cabin. CABIN: Loved it loved it there was 3 of us it was plenty big enough and we had a balcony perfect! FOOD: Was lovely and I didn't have to cook it or clean up after it Sabor was my big favourite also perfect! WEATHER: Partly cloudy!!! yes it was rubbish but it was worse at home and I was on holiday :) THE SHIP: I will be honest I will not choose to go on Oasis again a bit to big for me but the experience was worth it its an amazing ship and the art work was just brilliant, yes there was crowds and queues (the biggest was always at guest services lol) we just went somewhere else no big deal, we tried to have a drink at most bars the Mango mojitos where amazing and I just loved the cucumber and jalapeño margarita's in sabor. ENTERTAINMENT: Loved come fly with me,Graffiti classics was brilliant and the ice show was again awesome we also managed to get sneaked into the comedy club those guys where hilarious,We only lasted till the interval on Cats I was just to hot in the theatre how all the cats in there costumes under those lights manage is beyond me( I would have stayed for hairspray though) but my favourite was definitely the Oasis of dreams aqua show OMG WOW!! STAFF: Awesome as always (apart from one rude bartender in the casino) DISEMBARKATION: Slow and boring but I expected that (didn't help my son had a big hangover) All in all myself my husband and especially my son had a really good time and met some really lovely people and can't wait to cruise Royal Caribbean again. Embark - It was clear RCL was not prepared for an embarkation of this magnitude in Southampton. As a frequent floater, I received and email 4 days prior to embarkation letting me know I could board anytime after 12:00pm. Several thousand of us stood outside the terminal from 11:45am until 2:15pm before were even let in. Once we were let in, it was still somewhat of a "cluster." I am an Emerald Crown & Anchor and because that was not printed on my SetSail Pass, I had to stand in a line that was 3x longer. The gentleman who checked me in was nice enough and apologized for the long delay and for me having to walk through the wrong line. RCL blamed the delay on British Immigration not being set up and ready to go in time. So, how long did RCL and the British government know this ship would be embarking with 5K passengers today?!?!?! It was the worst embarkation experience in 12 cruises. The crowd was pretty composed but had it lasted much longer, they would have had a stampede the likes of a WHO concert on their hands. Disembark - Two strikes and you're out. Its like they've never unloaded this ship. I was posting on Facebook each step of the way (including pictures) and friends who've sailed on Oasis before were horrified at my experience because they all said the breezed on and off in FLL. I stood in a line on Deck 5 in the Royal Promenade for 1 hour just waiting to get OFF the ship, then when I got into the luggage/customs area I saw another line that almost made me pass out. That line took 1.5 hours. So, 2.5 hours after starting, I finally was on terra firma and on my own. If this was my first RCL cruise, I would never sail them again just because of their handling of the embarkation/disembarkation process. It was deplorable and the worst I've ever seen on any ship on ant line. This was my 12th cruise (8th on RCL) and I've never experienced anything like this on RCL before. Dining: American Icon Grille (Night 1) - Dinner on night one started out a mess. I was scheduled for an 8:30pm seating at table 216. I stood outside with everyone else waiting for the doors to open and when the let us in, it was a free for all trying to find my table. I looked and looked and saw everything on either side of 216, but no 216. I had 5 waiters and 2 managers trying to find the table, and they finally set me at a 2top that didn't have a number on it. The waiter, Anthony, from India, was about as close to a robot as one could get, no smile and very little personaity. I listened to him rattle off the same speech to each table on either side of me with equal stiffness. His first words to me were, "Good evening gentlemen...." Gentlemen?!?! Is there someone sitting with me I can't see. I started a largely flavorless and bland Eggplant & Artichoke Tart and a classic Shrimp Cocktail that tasted nice (that's kinda hard to mess up). For my main entree, I had an Atlantic Cod that was nice. It was accompanied with some very nice mashed potatoes, carrots and broccoli I. Standard ship fare but nicely done. For dessert I had a Peach-Blueberry Crumble served warm with vanilla ice cream. It was not very warm, a little on the hard side. One of the things that is a sign of a good waiter is how attentive are they to the table and "it's" needs. I had laid several used butter wrappers from my bread on the table along with a straw wrapper from my diet coke. The trash sat there on the table the entire dinner. Anthony was efficient but would have been stellar had there been some personable interaction and less rehearsed and canned conversation. I HAVE experienced it on other ships so I know it can done. I saw him cutting up with coworkers and was incredibly warm and friendly with them. Too bad that isn't extended to the guests. The one redeeming factor of the dinner was a final conversation I had with Raul, the head waiter. He was very personable and took time to get to know the guests at all of the tables in his section. American Icon Grille (Night 2) - Dinner on night two was much better regarding the food. I had a wonderful Melon & Proscutto salad, a bay scallops gratin, a nice tossed salad, a wonderful Shrimp ravioli and a chocolate pot de creme for dessert. The quality & flavor profiles of the food were head and shoulders above last nights choices. The service…. even after talking to the manager and offering some constructive feedback for Anthony - it was equally as stiff and im-personable as last night. Again, he is proficient and does his job as trained - but there was no human-ness about his delivery. It was as if he was reading a script and was not about to deviate from that script. He is professional, but just not personable. Windjammer Marketplace (Buffet): This restaurant is a staple for RCL on all of their ships. This one is the best by far. The choices of food seem to be a notch up from the rest and the layout of the restaurant is clearly about 3-4 times the size of the others for obvious reasons, but it was still easy to get food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Even though it is large, it is still serviced quite well. Room Service: I only tried it twice during the cruise. Once, at about 10:00pm when I wanted a late night desert and coffee and it worked great. The second time when I wanted to order breakfast for the next morning. I place the order at about 11:00pm for it to arrive between 8:30am-9:00pm. At 9:30am, I called room service to cancel the order as I was tired of waiting, and the woman I talked to said, “Oh, we are having problems with the order system on the stateroom TV. We get some and some we don’t. I’m very sorry.” SO, if you are going to order room service via your TV, I would recommend following up on the phone to confirm they got the order. Specialty Restaurants: Sabor Taqueria - This was one of my 2 favorite outlets on the ship. The food is very good, very high quality and quite ingenious. There service was great and the atmosphere was as well. They have 2 ways to order, a $20 pre-fix that allows for one item off each section of the menu or you can order ala carte. It was all priced well. We ended up ordering ala carte and got allot of food and it was still only $29 for two people. I would highly recommend this place whir on board. The only down side is during bad or cold weather, it is not good because it is basically an outside restaurant, but since this ship will be placed only in the Caribbean, it should be a problem (except for rain). Solarium Bistro - This was the 2nd of my fav non-complimentary outlets on board. There is nothing bad to say about this new concept for OotS. The food again, is very high quality and since it is spa-inspired food, it is mostly quite healthy. I would say that many of the deserts were sugar free and yet they were delicious. There service was great (ask for Eunice) and the ambience amazing. If you make your reservation at sunset - you will get a very romantic dinner and sunset all wrapped into one. AMAZING! I ate breakfast, lunch & dinner there and wish I had done it more because it really is some of the best food on the ship. Johnny Rockets - I always love this place and it is as normal on all of their ships. I love the burger, fries & shakes. I love the setting on the Boardwalk. The only downside is they don’t do the JR signature dancing of the waiters. But I can live without that as long as the food is good and the service is good which it is. 150 Central Park - The most expensive specialty restaurant on board at $40 per person. It is a very upscale restaurant. It is a 6-course meal that you get to choose your 4th, 5th & 6th courses from several options. 1-3 are chosen for you. The food was very good, the service was good, the ambience was good. It is nicer than any other F&B outlet on the ship and a good choice when you need to celebrate something special. Chops Grille - I always do Chops when on board and it was good. It was pretty much what I have come to expect from Chops on every level. Food, service and quality were all good. The physical restaurant itself is much nice than any other Chops on any other ship of RCL’s. Overall, it was good. Didn’t do Giovanni’s Table, Izumi or Vintages on this cruise. I had a bad experience in Giovanni’s on Rhapsody of the Seas and chose to stay away from it. Vitality at Sea Spa & Fitness: Thermal Spa - I chose to purchase the Thermal Spa package for the cruise because there is no complimentary sauna/steam room option on this ship as with so many other RCL ships. First the good - this thermal spa is really quite beautiful and nicely appointed. There are 2 steam rooms, one dry sauna, 2 rain showers and 4 heated lounge seats. All of the amenities in this thermal spa are really quite nice and certainly worth the dollars spent. It is a coed spa which was my first big complaint, but I just let it fall under the “it is what it is” idea. The big downside of the thermal spa is that it is incredibly very small for a ship this size. I have been on other much smaller RCL ships that have spa’s 2 & 3 times the size of this one. They only allow 30 passengers per cruise to purchase passes due to the size. The staff is incredibly nice and professional. I am just very surprised there are no steam rooms or saunas in the mens & women’s locker rooms free to guests. Im sure they had their reasons for doing this, but with the limit they have to the number of people they allow to use the facility, it can’t be a revenue decision. Fitness Center - It is well appointed and quite large as you would expect for a ship this size - but it’s major downfall is that it is farther down in the ship, therefore it has no windows in it at all. It is very dark, very claustrophobic and not enticing to work out in. I wasn’t in there very often because of this fact. Entertainment: Headliners - Cregan & Co. - Tonight's headliners, Cregan & Co. - Jim Cregan was Rod Stewart's original guitarist and collaborative songwriter... Ben Miller was a finalist in UK X Factor 2006... They did a great show of some of Rod Stewart's biggest hits. They were both great, but Ben was really really good. The only downside was their keyboardist was not on stage due to getting sick earlier today from seasickness. They did a good job covering for him, but several of Rod’s songs really need the keyboard… but it was still a good show. Oasis of Dreams (Aqua Theater) - This show was AMAZING! Even if they had to stop it halfway through due to rough seas - what we got to see what spectacular. I would highly recommend if you are going to get tickets for this show (they are free, but you need to reserve it) - do it AT NIGHT. It is much more enjoyable at night with all of the lights. CATS - RCL kept apologizing for “not being ready” to launch this show and kept putting it off and kept putting it off until the last day of the cruise - and even then they only showed a portion of the show. I was very confused by their not being “ready” for this show. It speaks volumes to the professionalism of their entertainment division that they didn’t have it ready by cruise time. I work in the event planning industry and while I certainly understand problems that come up in the moment of an event, a good event (or show) planner/producer has multiple contingency plans in place to accommodate execution. The show must go on. Each actor, dancer, singer, crew and production member should be incredibly proud of this production. It was of the highest quality. The dancing, singing, sets and overall production was really quite wonderful. This makes the 2nd Broadway show I have seen on the high seas (the other was "Rock of Ages" on Norwegian's Breakaway). Now for the not so good - this show is singularly one of the worst Broadway scores and books I have ever seen. I know it has a mass appeal (3rd longest running Broadway show in history) but if it had not been for the great production value, I would have nothing much to offer here. Kudos to every single RCL staff member who helped create this stellar production of a just so-so show. Pretty much all of the rest of the entertainment from the main theater to the other entertainment outlets was only so-so. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t to the level I had expected of the largest cruise ship in the world. Photos: This ship has an AMAZING photography studio on board and guests can set private appointments with a ships photographer to have a 30-minutes photo shoot just for you. They will start in the studio and then take you around the ship to get some of the most amazing shots I have ever seen. I had Edwin and he was not only amazing to work with - but the quality of his photos and his attention to detail was amazing. He must have taken about 100 photos of me and I they have several packages you can choose form in various formats. They are much more expensive than the normal photos you can get on board but are worth every single penny. I generally try and get some new professional head shots while on a cruise to use in my work and I wasn’t disappointed this time. I’m not going to give pricing because if this is something that interest you, I don’t want whatever price I may give you to keep you from going in an having a photo shoot to see for yourself. If you do the shoot and don’t want to purchase any pictures - you don’t have to - but I can sure you that once you see them, if good quality photos are important to you - you WILL purchase even the smallest package like I did. General Tips & Suggestions: - Make sure when you ask when you get on board DAY ONE if there are any special discounts available at ANY of the specialty restaurants. On this cruise they didn’t do a good job of communicating it and we found out toward the end that there were certain nights (like formal night) that they were free or highly discounted in some of the outlets. - Use the TV in your stateroom to book all of your show tickets on DAY ONE or TWO as they sell out quite quickly. - The usual beverage package (for sodas) on this ship is kind of unique. The glass they give you has a “chip” placed inside of it that can be used in the Coca-Cola Freestyle machines placed throughout the ship for you to create you own custom soft drinks free. It is a really cool option and makes it easier than standing in line to get a drink at a bar all of the time (which you can still do). I found out that the “chip” is programmed for YOUR cruise only and when you leave the ship - it will no longer work in the machines. I asked because I thought to myself, “What of I purchase this cup and try and use it on another cruise on the same ship?" A crew member told me it won’t work except for this cruise. - Breakfast in the Park Cafe is the bomb. It is not as crowded as Windjammer and the food is wonderful - and free!!!! Plus you get to eat breakfast in the tranquility of Central Park. - I loved how the Guest Services Desk would allow me to split my total SeaPass bill at the end of the cruise onto up to 5 credit cards so the entire thing didn’t sit on one card for Express Checkout. Just got to the desk and give them the cards you want to split it to and it will automatically be split upon departure. - If you are considering purchasing the Thermal Spa - they only seek 30 passes per cruise to it - so if you want it - get it on DAY ONE. Overall Thoughts: I was afraid that with over 5K passengers aboard, this ship would feel crowded - SO not the case. Only a few times (mainly on formal night and in the Royal Promenade) did I feel crowded. The ship is so big that there is generally not a feeling of being over crowded at all. On the note of 5K passengers, the main thing I noticed is that service levels seems to be a little down. I find it odd that you are on a ship where service is the name of the game, and as you are walking by a crew member, they lower their heads to not have to recognize you are talk to you. That happened more times than not. I was talking to some Diamond and Diamond Plus guests and they all said they have noticed service is down drastically from other sailings on the same class of ship (both Oasis and Allure). This is my first sailing on this class so I have nothing to compare it to, but I have noticed it seems to be down. No way to get made to order eggs in the morning, no made to order pasta stations (as on other ships), no concierge to help you make reservations, etc. In the Diamond Lounge, typically, there are ships officers that will visit with the guests and not once did I see officers in the lounge when I was in there. Since this was the first sailing out of dry dock, there were many changes on the ship that it seemed the crew was having a hard time adjusting to. There seemed to be lots of confusion about where things were, what times they were, how much they cost, etc. On the positive side - this is truly the most beautiful ship I have ever seen or sailed on. Its design, layout and appointments from top to bottom are innovative, imaginative and amazing. I never tired in 12 days of walking around just being amazed at the ship itself. It is markedly different and more beautiful than any ship I’ve sailed. RCL knocked it out of the ballpark with this class and I am glad they are building a 3rd Oasis class ship because the ship itself WORKS! It will be interesting to sail the new Quantum Class to see what it is like, but this ship is highly worth sailing and I would do it again and again (even with the few blips I found in service). I had a wonderful time doing my first Transatlantic on this ship and while I don’t think I need to do another sailing across the pond, I would sail this class of ship many more times. Read Less

Sailed on the Oasis for its transatlantic sailing. Looked forward to this cruise for over a year. It was a terrible disappointment. We had sailed on the Oasis and Allure several times and thoroughly enjoyed each cruise. We spent more time waiting in lines starting with our landing in Heathrow (3 hour wait for the bus to take us to the ship) arriving in Southampton to start a 2 1/2 hour wait to board the ship. Crowds of people were waiting with little or no information coming as why the terrible delay. Disembarking the ship in Fort Lauderdale was even worse. The crew was understaffed and could not control the departure numbers. We left the ship 3 hours after our estimated departure time. The Oasis is a truly warm water ship and when you can't be out in the open (pools and shows) the interior lounges cannot handle the amount of people. Some elevators were not operating properly which meant more waiting. Getting to see the shows required a wait in long lines even with reservations. The food was great after we waited in line to be seated. Have reservations to sail on the Allure on 10/25/15 if we can be assured some of these problems will be eliminated. Read Less

My husband and I sailed on the Oasis in 2013. We fell in love with the ship, the captain (Patrik) and the cruise director (Amy) and had so much fun we decided to book the Transatlantic cruise in conjunction with a cruise around the Canary Islands Adventure of the Seas.The Captain and Amy were visible a lot. Embarkation was tough due to immigration, a travel agent's tour and a tour by Andrew Lloyd Webber (Cats). (Hearsay) Many people stood outside or sat in a waiting room for many hours. We waited about two hours. Having not eater since 8:30 AM, we were hungry. When we boarded we looked for a place to eat and the ship was shutting down all the dining venues for muster. Even the Guest Services desk was shutting down. I was in line only to have a hole punched in my Seapass card and I was rudely told that they could not do it at this time because they were shutting down the desk. That was the first time ever, a staff member was rude.I walked away shocked and didn't even get a name. We were given My Time dining that we used twice and we were not impressed. The first night we were seated at a table for two in the aisle way and the traffic by us was crazy. While trying to eat our dinner, head waiters kept stopping to see how we were doing which is very nice but not every few minutes. The second time, we requested to be away from the aisle and even though we had reservations, we waited because our table wasn't ready. We were seated at a table for four with only two of us which was great. Our assistant waiter was pleasant and friendly. Overall the food on this ship was good. In fact, better than on Adventure of the Seas that we were on the week before. Since we were on the ship in 2013, it was redesigned to hold more people with less public space. Unfortunately the captain had to make a decision due to weather, to stay north and cross to the west, making it windy and chilly until the last few days. Most of the people picked a spot on the Promenade and stayed there most of the day. My husband and I had pizza one day and had to stand by the glass wall at the Rising Tide to eat it while people sitting, watched us. During this crossing, three designer purse stores had their grand openings and for most of the trip were empty. How many people spend hundreds of dollars on purses on a cruise? Those spaces could seat people. The Opal Theater was tied up every day for Cats rehearsals because the cast wasn't ready. That tied up another large place for people to go. The events held in the Schooner Bar and On Air were overcrowded and they were tied up pretty much all day, so again, lots of seats unavailable. Even the Diamond lounges were crowded. We have already booked a trip on this ship for nine people, next October and we're a little concerned. I read in one review that wasn't a concierge to make reservations for you. There was one in the Diamond Lounge every morning and he was also present in the evening. The Captain wasn't highly visible like on other cruises we've been on but then we heard he had been sick throughout the trip. The cruise director was fun and professional but not highly visible to us either. Maybe there were too many events for him to attend. Overall, it was a fun trip with good entertainment at night, if you had reservations. We met several nice people to talk too and found a place in the Champagne Bar every night where we could have a fairly quiet drink and see our friendly bartenders, Andre and Dennis. Disembarkation was awful. We waited from about 9:00 AM until almost 2:00 to disembark. The immigration officer was very nice to us. That was the best part of the disembarkation. The ship was in a hurry to get us out of our cabins but not fast in correcting a huge mess. I pray that next year's trip is better. Read Less

It has been two weeks since disembarkation from the Oasis WBTA, and I still believe it was the "Worst! Cruise! Ever!" From a nightmare embarkation to crowds and noise and lines all over the ship, this cruise was a waste of 12 days. Before we even left for the cruise, I was afraid that it would not be what we are used to. On Oasis, you have to book your shows before you board. The IT department couldn't be bothered to allow those boarding in Southampton to do this. I was able to make some reservations in the weeks before sailing by calling, but after all of them being changed from 2 to 12 people (others had the same thing happen and then some were being told that all of the shows were now booked), all but 2 of our reservations were canceled about a week before boarding. I gave up on trying to book anything. My husband said that we were bound to have a good cruise, because our expectations were so low!!! The people on the Cruise Critic boards said not to worry about this, because it is so easy to book on the TV in the stateroom - except that didn't work either! When we thought we had something booked, we checked our reservations and the new ones weren't there. At Guest Services, we were told that the TV wasn't working for bookings, but they were able to make them for us. Some people didn't have a working TV the entire cruise, others had no hot water the first three days. Needless to say, there were always long lines at Guest Services. In fact, there were long lines every place we went. It was noisy and crowded, and not at all relaxing. Not to mention how far you have to walk to get from one place to another. And to top it off, they never even checked our reservations for most of the shows! The activity schedule was very limited for a transatlantic. There was only one speaker the entire cruise - a former prosecutor talking about forensics. The subject got old quickly. The first few days, it was held in one of the bars that held relatively few people - we couldn't get in until the day we got there 1 1/2 hours early. They finally moved it to the ice rink, which filled up with about 800 people. Unless you went to trivia, there was nothing else to do, so people went to the lecture. And if you did want to do trivia, again in one of the bars, you had to get there over an hour before the first trivia of the day to get a seat because no one left after that until lunch, when multiple trivia's were over for awhile. Except for progressive trivia, which we did every afternoon. There were six on our team and we always got there about 1 1/2 hours ahead in order to get a table. It started with 50 teams, but ended with about 20 because of the hassle involved. The place it was held (another bar) always had a dance class right before trivia, so it was very, very noisy during our wait. The shows were okay, some better than others. But there were several nights that there was nothing to see because they repeated shows two days in a row. There was a late-night comedy show most nights which required reservations. But, it was the exact same show every time! CATS was shown the last two nights of the cruise. Another 1 1/2 hour wait, even with reservations. Some who came closer to show time, with reservations, couldn't get a seat. The mass of people waiting to get into the theatre was almost as bad as boarding in Southampton. I would say we were in line for 3 hours, except that there wasn't a line - just a mass of thousands of people waiting outside for them to open the terminal. The RCL loyalists said this is not Royals fault, wait until we see how easy it is to disembark in Ft. Lauderdale. Well, it was also a nightmare. It took over 3 hours to get off of the ship and through customs. I read that they finally cleared the ship about 3 PM. Some people with 3:45 flights missed them! There were several fights on this cruise. Before one Forensics lecture, one man choked another apparently over one of them saving seats. The choker was on house arrest the remainder of the cruise, and the chokee was pressing charges. People were very aggressive and the tension level was high. This was our 49th cruise, on 10 different cruise lines, and our 11th transatlantic. If this was our first transatlantic, I would never do another one. And if it was our first cruise, I would hesitate before booking a second one. This was our first RCI cruise, and it will most definitely be our last!!! Apparently, our expectations weren't low enough! Throughout the cruise, we felt that they just didn't care. At least 90% of the people we talked to said they would never cruise Oasis again, even some with Diamond or Diamond Plus status. One couple at our table are Diamond Plus, and they said they will not sail RCL again. For all of the people RCI alienated by their lack of effort on this cruise, they would have been better off sailing it back to the US empty. But I don't think they cared...   Read Less

The embarkation & disembarkation process was very poor (it took several hours to get on the ship in Southampton and several hours to get through US Customs processing in Fort Lauderdale.) Our dining room staff wasn't well trained and their attitude was curt. Boarded in Southampton on a cold and at times rainy afternoon. We were emailed that our category (Diamond) could embark starting at noon. We arrived at the port early, having flown all night from Florida and looking forward to getting checked in. This was NOT to be. Hoards of passengers waiting outside the terminal for hours, the port people ( no one from RCL ever appeared) telling us at various times we could NOT enter the building because of Customs and Immigration......it wasn't until 21/2 hours of standing with easily a couple of thousand people.....in the cold, that they opened the doors......it was a nightmare to say the least. Once inside it went from bad to worse. No organization whatsoever.......and still no one from(RCL) To deflect the angry and very tired passengers. We immediately went to our cabin, thoroughly exhausted. WOW......talk about penny pinching! No lotion, no conditioner.....only 2 tiny bars of soap and shampoo which came from a dispenser. No pen, no note paper.......the only glasses were those in the bathroom. Thank God our stateroom attendant was, as usual one of the first smiling faces we encountered! Our dining was 6pm.....our waiter Bassem was what made the voyage....he greeted is by name, had our ice teas always waiting when we arrived....and of course his table service was above and beyond.....can't complain about the food, as it was acceptable....however, on the last formal night.......pizza?????? TV was pre-recorded......no signal....even on a clear day??? 15 year old movies and sitcoms.......decided not to bother watching TV. We should have known things were amiss when walking thru the Promenade and passing Guest Services......EVERDAY long, long lines......our final bill appeared on the last day.......attached was a bill showing our cabin number.....but a different name.....overall I think the staff felt the anger and frustration of the passengers.......not a lot of the usual upbeat personas.......Schooner Bar personnel.....grumpy, grumpy! Soiled chairs....filthy leather sofas......Diamond lounge......oh, my gosh......brown and barf green.....old chairs...and NEVER a flower to be seen anywhere on board. Yep, you guessed it....we're spoiled! We have dubbed the Oasis as a RUM RUNNER....a seven day Carribbean island junket....no need for friendly staff...you're not on board long enough for them to make a difference!!!! Won't even go into the complete disembarkation fiasco........6 hours to get off the ship...and another 2 hours through long winding lines to Customs. RCL WILL NOT BE MY NEXT CRUISE. Just back from our Transatlantic on the Oasis of the Seas (15-27 Oct 2014). This is my first cruise review - Have to say I’m very disappointed. Embarkation – Embarkation at Southampton was an absolute nightmare. As directed by email from RCCI we arrived at 12:00 to embark the ship. This was to find hundreds of people already milling around the doors of the terminal, luckily it was not raining. After much pushing and shoving in the queue (not by my wife or me I will stress) we finally got onboard around 2:30pm. Cabin – We’ve been on the ship before so knew what to expect from a sea view balcony cabin, it’s a decent size and contrary to what some others report we found adequate storage space. Cabin was clean but the couch looked dirty and was stained in several places. There was a constant dusty smell in the cabin, and it probably requires a good deep clean, more than the steward could manage. He attempted to cover the smell up with an air freshener spray. The balcony was not cleaned in the two weeks we were on board. Food – Main Dining Room – We were initially on early seating, but due to show times we changed to ‘my time’ dining. This was quite easy to arrange, but even although we booked for a certain time each night (you do this the day before) we were never able to get the same table or waiter. Even if you did book the day before you still had to stand in a queue with people who had not booked. Disappointingly the food was below standard most days, several times being delivered cold. The menu for some reason had 10 starters and only 5 main courses. I had strip steak twice, once it was good the second time it was tough as an old boot. The ‘Royal Cheese Plate’ was very poor with only two cheese selections on it, both rubbery. Food – Buffet – We had breakfast lunch most days in the Windjammer Café and it was as expected, with a decent selection. The main problem was overcrowding, no matter when you arrived there were not enough seats. After walking around with our meals getting cold looking for seats for the first few days, we resorted to finding a table first, then one of us would go get our meal while the other guarded the table. Not ideal. There were no omelettes in the Windjammer, if you wanted one for breakfast you had to go to the Wifeout Café. This venue is very spartan, with plastic chairs designed for people in wet swim costumes and not really suitable for breakfast. With no waiters to get fresh juice, latte’s etc. The Park Café was open for breakfast and lunch and did a nice ham and egg muffin for breakfast. Lunch was a selection of sandwiches or a salad and bags of crisps (these ran out after about 8 days). You could get latte, espresso etc. but unfortunately there was only one person serving, so it could take up to 10-15 minutes to get your drink. My wife was disappointed there were no speciality teas in the Park Café. Once again quite difficult to find a seat, and for some reason the seats were very low, at least 6” shorter than a normal seat, very off putting when you first sat down. Entertainment – Due to the numbers onboard the main theatre only changed its ‘Headliner’ act every two days, but for the most there was a good variety. There was the same piano player in the ‘Schooner Bar’ every night, the same group in ‘Boleros’ every night and the same group in ‘Dazzles’ every night. For some reason they did not start until 9:30pm. The Jazz Club band on Deck 4 started at 9:00pm I think (they were excellent by the way). So if you were on early sitting at dinner you had a long wait for entertainment. The main entertainment event of the cruise was the preview showing of ‘Cats’. This was excellent and worth the disappointment of standing through the first half (more of that later). I didn’t go to the Ice Show, but my other half tells me it was brilliant, as was the ‘Aqua Show’. Show Bookings – Due to the numbers involved bookings are required for shows in the ‘Opal Theatre’, Studio Four (Ice Show), Aqua Theatre and Comedy Club. You are supposed to be able to book these through your interactive TV, but for some reason this did not work and for the first couple of days they set up a ‘box office’ on the Royal Promenade where people queued for up to an hour or more to book shows. You would think, this being the case that once you got into your venue there would be a seat for you, but no, probably like airlines they over book, so at some shows, especially the Ice Show, Aqua Show and particularly ‘Cats’ there were arguments over seats. The cruise director even mentioned there had been fisticuffs at the Ice Show and security had to be called. We decided to get to the theatre early for ‘Cats’ only to find with over 45 minutes to go before the performance there was already a long queue at each door of the theatre. My wife managed to get a seat but I had to stand at the back of the theatre with at least 50 other people for the first half of the show (the show is two hours long with a 15 minute intermission). For the second half around 10% did not come back so I managed to find a seat. Drinks Package – For some reason, we were unable to book our drinks package before the cruise, so didn’t manage to qualify for the early discount. I had the ultimate package (with alcohol) and the missus had the non-alcoholic package which both of which include speciality teas and coffees, soft drinks (fountain) and freshly squeezed juices. We didn’t manage to break even on this as I’d say at least 30% of the time we went to the two self-service drinks machines on the Royal Promenade they were on some maintenance program ‘blah blah please come back in 15 minutes’. Why both at the same time? The only other machines we found were in the Windjammer Café on the 16th floor. You could get your cup filled at any of the bars but that was limited to cola, lemonade, ginger ale and a few others probably. The drink machine has the option of over 90 drinks. At the café on the Royal Promenade, because of the queues it usually took over 15 minutes to wait for a latte, or cup of tea, they ran out of lids for the cups (the kind with the hole to drink through) and eventually ran out of cardboard sleeves used on the cups to stop you burning your hands. Finally we also found out that the only squeezed juice on offer was orange, which my wife can’t drink. Our last cruise was on Celebrity where fresh juices included orange, tomato, pineapple and cranberry at least. Disembarkation - We had a tour booked supposedly 08:00 - 13:15, we went as instructed to our assembly point at 07:30 and left the ship around 07:40 am, or should I say started to leave the ship at 08:00 am. We finally got on the tour bus at 10:10 am. Over 2.5 hours to clear immigration, we listened to one of the officials on their walkie talkie - there were 7 officers to clear over 5,000 people, work it out for yourself. Customer Service – Luckily we never needed to bother with them, but every time we walked past there were at least three queues of people 6 or 7 deep waiting to be seen. This was at all times of the day, so many people did have problems. The only time I might have spoken to them was on the last morning. We got our final statement delivered to the stateroom and on reviewing it I noticed they had used Royal Caribbean to convert the rates to GBP, which I specifically DID NOT want them to do, and highlighted this in yellow marker on my Set Sail pass at the beginning of the cruise. The queues at customer relations were at least 10 deep, so I couldn’t be bothered. I’m sure they do this on purpose. Conclusion – From morning till night we always seemed to be waiting for something, seats in the dining room, seats in the theatre, seats in the other venues, standing in a queue for dinner, standing in a queue for drinks. Although we have now done 6 cruises on RCCI we will not be returning.   Read Less

We booked the Oasis TA the day it was released based on a previous cruise on its sister ship Allure and numerous TAs and RCCI, Celebrity, Azamara, Princess and others. The cruise was horribly mismanaged by RCI from day 1. RCI originated this TA in both Rotterdam where Oasis was dry-docked for two weeks and from Southampton, both as originating ports. The Rotterdam-Southampton overnight leg was designed to showcase the ship to several thousand travel agents. About 880 paying passengers boarded Rotterdam and approximately 4,000 in Southampton. RCI IT was not set up to recognize passengers boarding in Southampton: no shows could be scheduled, no dining reservations made, and no shore excursions. Every contact with RCCL had to be telephonic, adding to much frustration by both the passenger and the representatives who never had the same story twice. We scheduled the flight to London using Choice Air, which worked well and resulted in a good price compared to what the airlines wanted one-way. The five-night pre-cruise stay in London was perfect. We stayed at a small hotel in Kensington, the Ashburn, located a block-and-a-half distance from the Gloucester Road Underground station for 3 lines. We covered London using the bus, Underground, water bus, and train system. Embarkation in Southampton was a disaster. Thousands standing in long lines, sometimes in the drizzling rain, people pushing to get out of the rain and find a place to sit as a result of the extremely long time it took to board. RCI representatives were few and far between. RCI blamed embarkation woes on the port, however, RCI contracts with local representatives to manage embarkation/debarkation. Interestingly, the same embarkation “challenges” were voiced by those embarking at Rotterdam. In addition, Rotterdam originating passengers were required to disembark and re-embark in Southampton with some saying that took 3 hours… The cabin, JS 10236, was ready by the time we arrived at nearly 5PM (luggage arrived just prior to 6PM). We had scheduled dinner in Giovanni’s Table for 6:30PM, later changed to 6PM by RCI, to make the 8:30PM “Come Fly With Me” show, the only day it was scheduled. Arriving at the restaurant we were told it had been booked by a group at 8PM (the travel agents again – underway scheduled for midnight) and our reservation could not be honored. Instead, we had to “dine” in Oasis/Allure’s terribly designed Windjammer and endure a huge crush of people. The food was almost inedible, pasta so under-cooked it clumped together and other items cold. The Come Fly With Me show was good even if it was the same show repackaged from other names. JS 10236 is a great room and we obtained a wonderful price by booking through our travel agency and C&A on the first available day. The price for the cabin escalated at least 50 percent over the next several months. The Oasis class JS is a wonderful secret. Walk-in closet, relatively large bathroom compared to balcony cabins, and the “extra” wide space made the cabin very comfortable. The bed was excellent. JS 10236 is on the “bump-out” and has an extra deep balcony with two chairs, two chaise lounges and a table. Our cabin attendant was exceptional. Linens, bathrobes and towels were showing their age and were “thin.” While this class of ship is a magnificent engineering marvel, accommodating passengers is a struggle for RCI. After a decade of cruising, and 30 years at sea on US Navy ships, I can offer that the problem lies with the middle and senior officers, and with RCI headquarters. For example, the Cruise Director stated that he didn’t know where several common passenger venues were located or what they looked like. NOT a joking matter. He was also unaware of scheduled events during his morning show (which needs to be discontinued). Enrichment presentations are wonderful and educational events to schedule during TAs, and are very popular on all cruise lines doing TAs. The few lectures offered were miss-scheduled for locations much to small to accommodate interested passengers. Satellite television reception during the TA was poor – which is understandable. However, most ships show a variety of “free” movies for passenger entertainment. Not so Oasis which charges $11.95 per movie (adult films on the system cost less). Some old television shows were recycled all day – the same episodes. RCI boasted that Oasis received a much improved Internet at sea reception capability. Not on this cruise. Dial-up speeds were the norm with numerous lost connections. The new “7-day” Internet package, sold by day and not minute, is an excellent improvement. In-cabin connectivity to the ship was good. Equipment in the Fitness Center was in poor condition with some machines unusable. The mix of stationary bicycles to treadmills and other aerobic machines is inconsistent with the passenger demographic. There were a total of 4 recumbent bicycles favored by seniors, of which one was broken and one had non-functioning electronics. Long wait time for the working bicycles with some passengers not following equipment use time guidelines and no fitness center personnel available for monitoring. Oasis has a wonderful walking/jogging track which leaves the numerous treadmills unused. After several days it became apparent that the front-line crew, from room attendants to restaurant servers, were overworked. This was confirmed by several crewmembers. RCI is reducing the staff that directly engages with passengers providing some frustration for both passengers and crew. RCI should be aware that those front-line staff are the face of the company to passengers. Since we boarded in Southampton and “didn’t exist” in RCI’s IT system for this cruise we did not receive an electronic survey nor an end of cruise summary statement of charges. The food in the specialty restaurants was “adequate,” but nothing to write home about especially considering the added cost. We selected the “walk-off” disembarkation option and got in line around 6:10AM and processed through immigration within 45 minutes. Friends with later “scheduled” times told us it took up to 3 hours to disembark! Lastly, the TV in our room “froze” during an “interactive” process. Calling “maintenance” several times over 3 hours produced only promises to fix, but no action. Finally found the direct number to IT and after several frustrating calls, the IT rep laughed at my frustration. An IT tech was sent to the room after 7 hours only after engaging an officer in customer relations. We are currently scheduled for 3 more RCI cruises (and one on Azamara which is always wonderful) and somewhat leery of what we will experience…   Read Less

We booked the cruise 18 months ago as the termination of an extended holiday in England and were looking forward to a great cruise experience as an opportunity to unwind. Frankly, we were neither delighted or satisfied, in fact we were extremely disappointed with this cruise. Note: We have made 17 cruises (5 RCCL). Some positive notes to begin with: Our Cabin Steward Imade Semarajaya was absolutely superb, a true gem (12 on a scale of 1-10); our Table waitress Veronica and assistant waiter Chadwick were super stars (10 out of 10); the dining room beverage waiter Junior (10 out of 10) he greatly enhanced our dining experience; beverage waiters Janice (Globe and Atlas) and Odell (Casino) also provided superb service with a smile. Head Waiter Denzell was attentive and concerned with ensuring things ran smoothly. Entertainment 4 ****, except CATS at * thus lowering the overall rating from 5*****: With the exception of CATS the entertainment was excellent, best in class, in particular Frozen in Time, The Aqua Show, Comedy Club, Creegan, etc. Unfortunately the venues were over-crowded (standing room only) and availability of the theater to relieve overcrowding because of the weather was limited by rehearsals for CATS. Pre-Cruise 1 * : RCCL web-services for MyCruises are virtually useless for pre-booking, beverages, dining, and entertainment. From June onward I tried repeatedly to make reservations and find information on the web-site, to no avail. The process was extremely frustrating. In addition I made numerous phone calls, most of which were a waste of time. I was regularly told to wait until we boarded to make reservations, etc. One agent told me they knew the web-site was useless but he wouldn't pass it up channel because if it worked he wouldn't have a job. Embarkation at Southampton 1 *: The embarkation was totally disorganized and obviously not well planned or coordinated with local terminal and government officials. I was told to check in at 12:30, I arrived at the terminal at 12:15 to find hundreds of passengers clustered outside the terminal doors. We stood outside without cover on a cold, blowy English day for 3 hours before finally being able to get into the terminal. There was no organization or streaming of passengers; i.e. handicapped, returning passengers, or even crew, all of whom (including crew) were jostling and shoving through the crowd to get to the doors. Clearly no one thought to factor in more than 2,000 Diamond, +, etc. passengers who would show up for priority boarding. I would note that RCCL staff or OTS Senior Officers were never seen. I did see several junior OTS Officers removing their name badges to avoid questioning by passengers attempting to board. I saw only one junior officer make any attempt to assist handi-capped passengers waiting in the crowd. Clearly, the embarkation chaos colored my opinion of the entire cruise, something which the Captain totally ignored when I had a discussion with him after the meet the crew event on Day 2. However, it was really capped/exacerbated by the debarkation chaos at Ft Lauderdale. Weather: Obviously the weather was beyond the control of RCCL. However, I would simply note from a passenger point of view the Oasis of the Seas is clearly not designed or suitable for operation in the North Atlantic regions when the weather is bad and on deck activities are limited or non-feasible. Balconies were virtually unusable for most of the cruise. Having to take a northern route certainly didn’t help. Having been in the North Atlantic on the northern routes, had I known we would be using the northern great circle, I would not have booked the cruise. Activities 3 *** largely due to the crowded venues; Forensic Lectures and Trivia were excellent 5*****: Unfortunately, most activities had to take place in inadequate space, e.g. you had to find a seat in the Schooner Bar at least an hour before Trivia in order to be able to play unless you wanted to stand-up for the entire time. The Forensic Lecture series was moved to the Frozen in Time Theater from the OnAir Lounge after significant complaints when it was standing room only, some 8/900 passengers then attended every day afterwards. More space should perhaps be allocated to activities than shopping! Apparently some intellectual activities, e.g. lecture on Brunell were cancelled due to space constraints. Note: The Cruise Director was rarely seen except to open events in the theater (or on the TV morning show with the Activities Director, which was for the most part infantile). Dining 3 *** generally mediocre: The menu in the American Icon in the evening was generally unimaginative and portion sizes were very small, e.g. two 2-ounce sliders with 8 french fries; one 2-ounce pork cutlet as the main entree; food items in the Windjammer were much the same daily (except when left-overs from the night before were served), generally cold (e.g. toast and pancakes); as a result breakfast in the dining room was overcrowded leading to long lines and slow service. Hot water for tea was not readily available. The only place you could get drinks (Coffee, tea, unlimited Coke products) when the food service venues were closed was on Deck 5. I would suggest benchmarking Golden Corral! our Table (134) waitress Veronica and assistant waiter Chadwick were super stars (10 out of 10); the dining room beverage waiter Junior (10 out of 10) he greatly enhanced our dining experience; Head Waiter Denzell was attentive and concerned with ensuring things ran smoothly in the American Icon. Debarkation at Ft. Lauderdale (1): Just as totally disorganized and obviously not well planned or coordinated with local terminal and government officials as was Embarkation. However, less excusable since this is a home-port. Anecdotal chats from terminal staff and rental car agents this is apparently the norm. The excuse of customs/immigration wears thin, particularly since it is the same excuse as for Southampton and Rotterdam. RCCL had 18 months (or more) to work with local officials, thus they are the common denominator is these chaotic situations. The pre-planned tag system for debarkation was not controlled and did not work, the only senior officer I saw (Hotel Director) told us to ignore it, just get in line. It took more than 3 hours from planned time to get off the ship. As I have limited mobility (use of a cane) I was directed to the handicapped exit and got out of the terminal quickly (unlike the 100s who were still in line). Perhaps like airport arrivals, US Citizens/Green Card holders should be streamed separately from non-citizens. General Comments: From a passenger point of view the Oasis of the Seas is clearly not designed or suitable for operation in the North Atlantic regions when the weather is bad and on deck activities are limited or non-feasible. Too many passengers competing for too little space in smallish activity venues, e.g. Schooner Lounge, OnAir, smoking area seats in the Casino (a smoking lounge would be a vast improvement, since all smokers end up in the Casino), etc. Throughout the cruise senior officers from the Captain down (except the Human Resource Manager) were seldom in evidence other than for planned venues. Obviously management by walking about is not SOP for the OTS, maybe taken from the Captain’s leadership style. Throughout the cruise a perception that those of us who were not Diamond and above class were akin to steerage passengers developed. While I understand the rewarding of loyalty it perhaps should be more discrete. The sale of souvenirs/merchandise detracts from the activities by taking up valuable space. The sales when compared to Amazon prices of exactly the same items were no great value. Perhaps RCCL should operate an on-line/on-TV store with delivery to the cabins. The quality, quantity, and variety of menu items which are priced as part of the cruise package should be bench marked against shore venues of a similar nature, e.g. the Windjammer against Golden Corral; the dining room against Bone-Fish, Carrabba’s, Olive Garden, Longhorn, etc. The over emphasis on paid upgraded dining options was a turn-off, particularly on the restaurant menu. The lack of hot drink availability at convenient locations and during hours when the food service venues are closed should be reviewed, i.e. coffee and hot water dispensers/machines at strategic locations on the deck operating from early morning (0500) to midnight. Note: having to troop half the length of the ship for a cup of coffee/tea is unacceptable. Overall rating for the cruise and value for money: 3 ***: Only because of the Entertainment (except CATS). Would I book a cruise on the Oasis of the Seas in the future: NO (nor any other big/super ship, Allure, Quantum, etc. Am I likely to book with Royal Caribbean in the future: Not very, would have to depend on price and route. This review covers the 12 nighter Southampton to Fort Lauderdale transatlantic cruise, along with the following back-to-back 5 nighter to Nassau and Cozumel. We booked a year ago as we wanted to experience the novelty of this one-off cruise departing from home waters on 'the biggest cruise ship in the world'. Oasis usually operates 7 night cruises from Fort Lauderdale to the sunny Caribbean week in, week out. As someone observed, 'as if it's on rails'. Unfortunately, we found that if this routine is changed, it comes off the rails in a number of important aspects. However there is no denying that Oasis is amazing in terms of its sheer size and unique facilities. The “neighbourhoods” are truly impressive. The ship is a celebration of naval architecture. But this is not to say that it is perfect, because its size and design bring unique problems eg the facilities and layout are geared to good weather cruising (the public rooms are smaller than you might expect – a fact repeatedly made by the Cruise Director) and unfortunately on this cruise the weather was hit and miss. Hence venues struggled to cope with the numbers. Surprisingly, some facilities are missing eg we missed not having an area outside the Windjammer where you can eat, and there is no promenade deck. There were problems with embarkation/disembarkation at Southampton and Fort Lauderdale which are well documented on this forum so we will not elaborate, other than to add our voices to the chorus. It would seem that the ports cannot handle the numbers. We also agree with others that the show and tour booking system was a shambles. We had a severe noise problem with our room on the first night. We spent most of day 2 being promised that a maintenance man would be sent. We were repeatedly told that someone would be with us soon. But the day dragged on and no sign of a maintenance man. He turned up at 22.30. He told us the problem was with the floor, so it couldn't be easily fixed. We escalated the problem with Guest Services and they eventually agreed to let us have another room. They offered to send someone to assist with the move and promised that he was on his way. We waited for an hour and with no sign of help, we decided to move ourselves, which was to the other end of the ship and two decks down. The help arrived as we were taking the last few items. When we later mentioned this to Guest Services, they said that they would send us a bottle of wine; a small but welcome gesture. Alas, we never did receive that wine. So not a good start. Things settled down after that but unfortunately there were other examples of not following through on promises. If there is one piece of advice we would offer to RCI it's 'don't promise what you can't deliver'. Other sundry points: Room Service: One order took 2 hours to arrive despite chasing and being given reassurances. When it did eventually arrive, we were presented with only half the order. On other occasions a 45 minute wait was the norm – far too long. Guest Services: We noticed a strange quirk when queuing up at Guest Services. Lines were often 10 deep and to their credit Guest Services staff were often seen going along the line, presumably to see if they could help with any quick queries. The only trouble was that they started at the end of the line ie the person who arrived last was dealt with first! To make matters worse, they would sometimes undertake to deal with someone's problem and would disappear behind the counter, leaving those remaining in the queue looking around with incredulity. When we mentioned this to the staff concerned, they agreed that it was illogical but that they had been told to operate in this way. In-room TV: The offerings were minimal and the worst we've ever seen. Pre-recorded shows and a few 20 year old movies, all going round on a loop. Movies to rent were too expensive. What a contrast to our Virgin Atlantic return flight; a huge number of entertainment options all included in our basic economy fare. Dining: Adherence to the dress code in the main dining room was largely ignored. Many men wore shorts and open sandals on formal night. It was just one step away from wet speedos and flip-flops. This undermined any prospect of an appropriate dining atmosphere. We felt embarrassed wearing our formal clothes as we were in the small minority. If RCI won't enforce the dress code, then why bother having one at all? Why not scrap formal nights altogether? But that would be a real shame from our perspective. The My Time dining room Silk is rather ordinary in terms of its furnishings and decoration. Tables felt squeezed in. This included at the entrance where tables were, in effect, in a corridor. The waiters tried their best and were accommodating, but always rushed off their feet. But food quality, variety and portion sizes were very good in all the venues we tried. My Time reservations seemed to work well on the 12 nighter. Thereafter we struggled to make reservations by phone. The banner at the entrance – segregating those with reservations from those without – was only employed on a couple of nights. So when it was not employed, those with reservations had to join the same queue as everyone else, rendering the reservation meaningless. The provision of complimentary coffee appeared to be an afterthought ie crude urns that needed manual filling up. Entertainment: Headliner/comedy acts were very old-school. We thought that we'd moved on from that. However the performers in both Come Fly With Me and Cats were excellent. It's a shame that Cats is just such an over-rated show. The main aqua show was excellent, if a little 'arty'. The one-off aqua show on the last day was cancelled at short notice. 'The Quest' needs a re-vamp as too many know what to expect and come prepared. Post-cruise: There was no information provided regarding the specific arrangements for those who had booked transport and a hotel. We were reassured at Guest Services that, quote “don't worry, RCI thinks of everything”. Suffice to say that there was chaos trying to get to our hotel. RCI staff/agents were clueless. Summary: Having re-read this from the top, it all sounds rather grim but it wasn't at all! We had a good time overall and thoroughly enjoyed the 5 meals a day! The ship was impressive but not perfect - no such ship exists. We had issues with how the cruise was run but the crew was, on the whole very good, particularly the waiting staff and the stateroom attendants. Would we go again? Probably not, but we have no regrets and we can now tick it off the bucket list! Looking forward to our next cruise, on a smaller ship! Read Less

This review is of the post-drydock Oasis of the Seas westbound TA (October 15-27,2015). Since we were on the Eastbound pre-drydock TA in September, we can accurately compare the two ships and voyages pre and post dry dock. The overriding factor in the Westbound TA of the Oasis of the Seas has been congestion, overcrowding, and SRO. We have never been on a cruise where the masses tend to dominate. Lounges and Bars were alway occupied and overcrowded; Trivia and lectures were SRO with some participants coming 1-1/2 hours early to secure seats. Breakfast venues had 15-20 minute waits or 100 person lines for seating or no seats available(buffet). This has lead to rude passenger behavior and even fisticuffs (never have been on a cruise with so many rude, inconsiderate and irate passengers—could this be cause and effect?). Naturally, many in our party have vowed never to return to this ship due to the masses that abound everywhere (even the theatre is SRO with several lines of people; in Dazzles the progressive trivia left many teams in the aisles and staircases). The reason for this is quite obvious: during dry dock the Oasis added 40 cabins (up to 100 more people) while eliminating much public space: when you have more people and less public space, these problems tend to occur. They did so without adding any additional staff so more people with less staff means less quality and poorer customer service, which we also noted as major differences from the previous TA on the same ship (The spark and excitement is missing in a lot of the staff eyes. You can see they are just running through the motions to make a living). It appears very obvious that RCI intends to milk the ship for all the revenue it can get without any regards for the convenience or quality of the passengers. The promenade, once a beautiful football long area to sit, talk and relax, people watch or just stroll aimlessly has been reduced to offering hourly K-mart blue light specials on cheap merchandise with ear splitting announcements about the newest bargains from the name brand retail shops. More emphasis is on selling then allowing the passenger to relax. The ship may be able to accommodate 5500 passengers but the public venues do not have the carrying capacity to do likewise. Read Less

This was beyond a doubt the worst cruise we have ever taken. Mob mentality existed from before we got on in Southampton until we went through immigration in Fort Lauderdale. RCCL had absoultely no control over those standing in line and we stood in many lines. I can't even call them lines since it usually was a very large group of people pushing and shoving to get in a door to something, the terminal in Southampton, the theater every night, the Diamond Loungs (although they didn't push and shove there), Studio B and every other venue we had signed up for We stood outside the terminal in SH for over two hours. There were people there who ocassionally tried to get the various loyalty classes of people in a certain area but they never followed through. When the doors did open it was a push and shove like I have never been in before. I rescued an older lady next to me who got separated from her husband and a man with a suitcase refused to let her pass to catch up with him. I finally got her to the door where an "official" took her hand and helped her in. The lines to the theater were long every night and the night CATS played it was even longer. Some folks stood in line for over two hours only to have people approach from the left and right side and slide in in front of them. When people complained to security his response was "we didn't tell you to come and stand in line for two hours". In all cases a set of ropes to delineate the lines would have made all the difference. A megaphone would have enabled more if not everyone to hear what those "in charge" were saying. Instead they yelled expecting 1.000+ people to hear them. It seemed as though no one cared except for those who had been standing there for two or more hours. They need to go to Disney and learn crowdn management. I really don't think they need three high end purse stores on one ship. Can't see them selling many Coach bags to those on a week long Caribbean vacation. Central Park is lovely but I can go to a park when I am home. When I am on a ship I would like to see the sea. Except for the theater and STudio B all the other public rooms were very small given that ship holds over 6200 people. That being said - the shows were outstanding. The food in Windjammer was OK but I would have preferred to have the hot foods in one area and the cold foods in another. There was one nice area at the very back of the ship by the jogging trail that was a great quiet place to read a book. I would have enjoyed the pool more if it had been heated. We never saw the Cruise Director, Drew, except on the stage or on TV and very rarely saw any of the other officers. They were pretty much invisible. I think everything cost more on this ship and the fact that there were more resturants with an up-charge than complimentary is a bit disturbing. We are long time cruisers but I would not get on an Oasis Class ship again. We tried it and found we didn't like it much. Read Less

Firstly we boarded at Southampton we were sent e-mails confirming our boarding time and asked to acknowledge that we had received this. When we arrived at the port there was a massive crowd and the doors had not been opened to let people in. We waited 2:15 hours with people pushing and shoving and then the rain started. No officials from RCI or the port gave any information at all no definitive lines were set up it was chaos I have never known anything like it bad! bad! bad! The pools were not heated and on one day all of the main pools had nets over them with maintenance going on, even if the weather is not good if the pools are heated at least you can get in for a swim. The public areas are not big enough for everyone if you are inside due to bad weather We went to the Karaoke final in the On Air lounge and got there 2 hours before it started as there was no way you would get a seat as the weather was raining outside so everyone was inside. CATS Well this was truly awful.The booking system on the TV staterooms kept giving different times to the one I had printed off when it was booked over the phone with RCI. That's another thing couldnt book any dining or shows on line had to all be done over the telephone even though I booked this trip on 9th April 2013! When I phoned RCI to complain that I could not book the dining or the shows the rep just said 'Yes its a problem at the moment - try next week' ( 52 weeks later and you still can't book!!!!) Anyway back to CATS so we got in line 1 hour before the doors to the theatre opened and the lines became extremely long and about 4 people deep which made it difficult for people to access the elevators going in and out there was no line control. When the doors did open people who had VIP on their seapass thought it was acceptable to just push to the front of the queue and show their VIP sticky yellow dot! There was only 1 crew member checking the seapass cards to enter the theatre and people just pushed past her to get in. Worse than that even though you had the show supposedly booked there was not enough seats in the theatre and people sat on the stairs in the exit isles to watch the show which is a complete health and safety risk if something happened and you needed to exit the theatre as it was i left before the 1st intermission (not the only one I might add) but it was difficult to get up the stairs with people sitting all over them!! Disembarkation at Fort Lauderdale was awful again another long wait with limited customs officials to cope with the amount of people from Europe entering the US. Oh and the Gym smelt of smoke for the 1st 2 days so bad impossible to train in there. The good stuff Nice staff and good food and a lovely ship if organised properly would I go on Oasis again NO, give me Freedom loved it. Read Less

We are experienced cruisers with this being our 15th overall, 4th on Royal Caribbean. Signed on the day this became available as this was a unique opportunity to experience Oasis OTS for 12 days and an Atlantic crossing. Booked air travel Phoenix-Heathrow through ChoiceAir. Better pricing than airlines and other searches. We arrived in London three days prior to the cruise and enjoyed a wonderful BnB about 100 yds from the Pimlico tube station. We booked this through Airbnb.com. Booked return air, Ft. Lauderdale-Phoenix, independently. During our stay in London, we received an email from RCL informing us of our scheduled boarding time of 1:30pm. Took the train from Waterloo Station to Southampton. Convenient, inexpensive and met a number of fellow cruisers headed to the ship. Shared a cab and joined the mass of humanity standing about waiting for some word about what was going on. A bit of drizzle ensured we huddled closer together while we waited....and waited...and waited. 'They' began letting people into the terminal in groups of 10 or so at some point and the herd shuffled inch-by-inch toward the ONE entry door. Once inside, the rope lines began winding through the terminal. Interestingly, the new passenger check-in line was moving much quicker than Platinum-Pinnacle. I heard most of the passengers were in this category and again, preparations were not in place. Next came US airport type security check points and finally to the check-in counters. Once on board (approx. 4-430 pm) we went directly to our stateroom to drop off our carry-ons. Next stop was to get a libation and walk about until Muster then to dinner at 6. Our assigned dining was wonderful with Randy (Head Waiter) and Rei (Asst. Waiter). Every evening we were asked if we had any shows to attend and on the 2 evenings we had early shows reserved, we were done in plenty of time. Speaking of reservations, other than dining, what a fiasco!! Weeks before the cruise we had to call Royal direct to schedule shows and alternate dining venues. Everything was in our Cruise Planner but once on board we noticed there were time variances. For example, a show would start at 8pm not 830pm or 9pm. Easy to work that out but every show we had reserved didn't match with the card swipers allowing entry to the venue. I mean EVERY show (for us); The Headliner shows, the Comedy Club, Cats, etc. Went to Guest Services and they verified we were properly assigned/reserved and at the entry it would show not reserved. On the interactive stateroom TV it even showed us as reserved for every show at every time available. I know we didn't do that. The cruise itself was fairly uneventful as we only had one port call. This was a sea intensive crossing and that was part of the draw for us. Reviews re: E/W Carib cruises all said 7 days was not enough time to explore all this ship has to offer. I must agree. Even with 12 days I know we missed some things. The Oasis is an incredible ship with activities galore, restaurants, shops, noisy fun and quiet retreats. The weather did not cooperate, providing us with mostly cloudy and sometimes rainy days, active seas, and a chance to learn from the Captain about our course across the pond on his televised updates. Brief, informative and straight to the point, the updates were very interesting. We have always enjoyed the variety and abundance of eating/dining options when cruising and Oasis has many to choose from. Our choices were: American Icon 6pm Main Dining, Johnny Rockets free breakfast and enjoyed a burger/fries/real ice cream milkshakes for Lunch, Hot Dog Shack, Park café (Breakfast/Lunch), Sorrento's Pizza (noshing), Café Promenade (Specialty coffees/noshing), Wipeout Café (Breakfast/Lunch), Windjammer (Breakfast), Chop's Grille (Outstanding Dinner), Room Service (Breakfast, etc.). We experienced good food and service with our choices. Our favorite bar is The Schooner Bar. This was our meet-up location for those we met and to our surprise, Luzt, who we met on our Serenade Med cruise, was working here. He and Alberto Cordero provided excellent bar service and refreshment. There were times when the place was packed (SRO) with trivia players, probably due to the weather and with the Future Cruise 'Office' sort of attached, it could really be tight. Entertainment offerings were varied and well attended. Rod Stewart's lead guitarist, the magician/comedian, string quartet Graffiti Classics, topped our list of favorites. Cat's was, for us, eh. We enjoyed Jazz on 4 and music in Bolero's but the comedians in the Comedy Club came off as coarse to us. Live music on the promenade, Shrek and Crew, 70's Dance Party, Blue Light shopping sales could really make navigating the promenade crowded at these times. The line for photos on formal night with the Captain was surprisingly 'short' and flowed rather well. Studio B (Ice Show or open skating) and the Aqua Theater were silent most of the cruise due to weather and safety concerns for the performers. Same for the pools, rock wall, zip-line and flow rider. The sun broke out 2 days before arrival and did the zip-line, mini golf, played basketball, plenty of places to catch some rays, usual pool chair hogs, and watched some flow riders. We watched the Aqua Theater shows from the comfort of our Boardwalk Balcony. Wife bought a purse at the Coach store. Does that count as entertainment? :) We opted for Express Disembarkation for arrival. Ate a nice breakfast at Windjammer (615am), gathered our 3 bags from the cabin (715am), elevator to Deck 5 and literally walked off. I heard of major delays for those who departed later. Customs was quick as we had a separate line for US Citizens. The line for others was quite long, even that early. Got a cab and arrived at FLL before 830am. Overall we enjoyed the cruise, just as we have all the others. Were there concerns? Certainly. Cabin TV did not work for 2 days(OMG), I mentioned the reservations problem, Cruise Director Drew seemed self-absorbed; televising a dull, uninteresting program, never saw him other than 'his' show and a handful of show introductions. Didn't see as many officers about as we have on previous sailings. These are minor annoyances. Crew members we met were hard working, friendly, and ready to share or listen to a story. This review was our experience. Now that we have 'Been There, Done That' we most likely wouldn't sail Oasis again but we will sail Royal Caribbean again.   Read Less

Nothing to do for 10 out of 12 days. Couldn't get into many shows, our designated dining table full of other people, food not hot, wine extortionate, spa a joke - 30 places for 6000 guests so couldn't buy the expensive pass. Cabin wardrobe inadequate space to reach into, no drawers, no kettle, creaked all night. Shows regularly cancelled due to weather, no alternative organised. Cruise director pathetic, his TV show awful and repeated on endless loop. Like Groundhog Day! TV channels terrible, had to pay for old films!! No sports bar so couldn't catch up with British sport results. Library is a misnomer, where was the choice of books in English for women. Everything could have been sooooo much better. Pull your socks up RCI. Incredibly disappointed. We will NEVER go on this ship again. Couldn't wait for it to be over, then took 3 hours in hideous queue so had to pay again for taxi, last straw!! This was a 52 day cruise from Southhampton, England to Bejing, China, thru the Med, Suez Canal and lots of stops. The good: Wonderful ship, great interior design with 110 volts and 220v. The shower and shower head were adjustable and removable. Great for big people like me. The ship is bigger than our biggest aircraft carrier. (1100 feet long with 16 decks) Sport courts, rock climbing walls and a bumper car arena. Basket ball anyone. Several pool and lots of jacuzzis. They have gone to resturant style dining, no large fantail dining room. You can go upstairs but never recognize it as a buffet. Super food. Go slow on a long trip. Great gym. The cabin design was spacious and utilized all the space with overhead bins on the bed. Biggest small cabin in the fleet. We were in a Verandah suite. Entertainment was typical "ship", Dining was memorable because even though you switched dining venues nightly, you always had the same waiter. Each of the 4 free dining venues had different food. There were also 5 pay as you wish resturants. The bad: expense: wine and drinks are the highest in the fleet.--$10 for a cocktail, $8 for a beer. A room bottle on HAL is $40, on RCI it is $65. They are liquor Nazi's so don't sneak unless you are humiliation proof. Tours are really expensive (use Aviator). The electronic wizardry will really wow you. They were able to board and disembark faster than Symphony, Serenity, or Prisendam and that was with 4500 passengers. Beautiful ship, I would go again, and plan not to have a drink. Read Less

Food is some of the best I've had aboard a ship. I've been on many cruise's on other ship's. Servers are the best, they ask to help, even if in the buffet area, they'll get you any thing you may want, coffee, tea, juice or any thing else. Shows are the very best like Broadway shows, even the entertainment , such as piano bar, dance area's, Karaoke room was entertaining. Many things to do, never a down time. Very large Casino, table's for all type's of gamblers, big better's and those like me. Machines are much looser than most Casino's, Surprise . A seven day cruise seem's like a 3 day cruise. I am not in the habit of writing reviews. It was great. Read Less
