Our first time with Celebrity so we paid extra for a Celebrity Suite deck 9. Have sailed on many other lines. Our trip was Harwich (north of London) and back via LeHavre,LaRochelle.Bilbao (Spain),Vigo,Porto (Portugal). Celebrity are leaving out Harwich next year but we found the train station next the pier perfect for us after a night in London.Reception was fine however we disliked the suite and our "butler" the moment we met. The suite 9098, appeared poorly designed and unchanged since launch 10+ years ago. Only the carpet had been changed. The ghastly original art was now fading, the extensive wood paneling needed a good wipe down, the long couch just looked cheap and old.The balcony is long but narrow with hinged not sliding door. No room for a leg rest on the three chairs, but good views along the starboard side.The bedroom and bathroom were cramped. The bath was old and marked, a jet nozzle ring fell off in the bath and the shower was in the corner over the bath.There were no safety handles and a high step in and out the bath onto a small area of floor. Wardrobe storage was very good, but the drawer doors opened and closed if the ship rocked along with the walk in doors. We suffered from lunch time noise from the deck above, the burger bar. No water was provided for free in the suite, we had the top Premium drinks package and so picked up bottles and carried them back.Fruit and flowers were good enough, the afternoon cookies dire. Twice we were left the scariest towel "sculptures" one actually hooked up to a ceiling light. Cleaning was not great our basins never actually shiny nor our balcony swept. We saw very little of our stewards but at least we were left in peace. The main perk we were given was use of Michael's Club and a very peaceful space it was, all drinks there on the house and some canapes but not nuts! The ship other than our cabin was very smart and all staff friendly and efficient. We enjoyed shows and swimming but not the Persian Garden which is old and strange and the staff welcome very poor. We liked the Captain and enjoyed a bridge visit. Tours were mostly OK but having to climb onto the stage to collect coach tickets was a poor idea. Now the major problem on Infinity, the food. The MDR is attractive and staff were good as in the speciality restaurants and bars. We simply found the food cheap, sometimes poorly cooked (soups) and and after 12 days of eating can remember no outstanding food. There is a new Irish Head Chef, and next year suite payers are to have a new restaurant....but this month food all over the ship was poor. The stand out items of the day were the scrambled eggs, fresh orange juice (charge), and MDR bread basket. The crepe place (charge) should be closed and reinvented. The buffet breakfast and lunch should be redisigned as crowds are out of control and the glass display front prevent you reaching the poor food. It was not well presented or staffed. Room service offerings poor. Speciality coffees were fun but due to the milk used (UHT or whatever) had that strange everlastng milk taste. The Afogato was a joy though. Cakes vile.( I took photographs to back up most of what I have written.) Celebrity are thought to be GLBT friendly yet meetings were listed on the first day only for the small and crowded Martini bar so no one met up as far as we could see, very poor result. This was the first cruise I have put on very little weight, nor a life jacket during drill practice. Not good enough food or suite Celebrity, on a very decent ship.   Read Less

With cruise ships I always think 5 star is really 4 star, but at times this bordered on 3. 2. Food - the worst we have experienced on Celebrity. Needs tweaking. Main dining room poor (as ever), but more disappointing were the speciality restaurants. Given that we dined in them a lot in a 14 night cruise, and on this ship there are only two, would have been improved hugely by some change in the menu. Why not have a daily special? 3. Service - OK, but the Eastern Europeans in Qsine can sometimes seem very gruff, better in SS. Oh for a French or Italian waiter for a little style. Thank God for the Asian waiters, and for some individuals. 4. Drinks - again as others have observed terribly overpriced. If you are a drinker then this will be an expensive cruise. Both of the drinks packages are pretty hopeless - with wine by the glass priced cunningly just above the limit. Good bottles of wine are ludicrously priced - 200 or even 300 dollars! 5. Entertainment - could have done with more full caste shows. 6. Lectures - again the worst in Celebrity. Far too low brow, and the times kept changing. This is a real weakness on a Transatlantic. 7. Activities - enthusiastic staff (Andreas and Rachel) carried it through. Not sure why everything had to be at lunchtime, with nothing in the late afternoon.   Read Less

This was one holiday split into two quite different cruises on the same ship. The first thing to say is that we enjoyed it but, having had two previous cruises with Celebrity, this holiday did have its disappointments. I have no problem with the ship itself. Size-wise and layout-wise it was fine. It was well presented and generally staffed with a very friendly, hard-working crew. (There was an exception here and there, more about which later)! We were disappointed with the way Celebrity seem to be pricing themselves out of the market somewhat. Daily tips are expensive, the cost of drinks is expensive ($6 for a bottle of water when you can buy one ashore for under $1). They've even jumped on the band-wagon with the popularity of zumba classes and have now started charging for them. The cost of a coffee in Café al Baccio went down slightly on the 2nd cruise - why was it deemed necessary to charge more on the transatlantic cruise? As with most other cruise lines, meals are plated and this, to my mind, only encourages waste. There were things on my plate I did not want and things that I would have liked more of, given the choice. At dinner I would say that portions are very small and there are no petit fours or after dinner chocolates. Chocolates on your pillow happened once per cruise. Food itself was a disappointment, particularly in the Ocean View café at lunch time. There was nothing like the choice of food we had on Eclipse last November. Very often the food was not hot and finding a hot plate was almost impossible. Apparently in the Select dining Trellis Restaurant the waiters had to go down two escalators to get the food which, again, was often not as hot as it should have been. I will say though that we always found the meat to be of good quality and well cooked - just not hot! We learned to ask for our food "hot" and sometimes it paid off! The restaurant by 6 pm was getting busy and I think there have been cut backs staffing-wise. On many occasions it was quite a wait to receive food. In the Ocean View café there seemed to be few staff around to clear the tables. In the bars, particularly the Rendez-vous lounge, you had to wait quite a long time to get your drinks. On the second cruise this lounge got very busy around 5.30 pm whereas the two weeks before there was hardly anyone in. Entertainment was also a disappointment for us. The Cruise Director, Alejandro, was excellent and the 3 members of the entertainment team worked very hard. Is this another cut-back - only 3 in the team? On other ships recently there have been more than 3. The daily programme relied quite heavily on passengers arranging their own entertainment eg football - arrange your own competition; table tennis - arrange your own competition. There were no dance hosts and no hosts for bridge. Of the on-board musicians, one band, D'Revelations - the house-band - particularly stood out. Their singer, Cindy, is outstanding and is, in our opinion, good enough to be a headliner. She received a well deserved standing ovation for her rendition of the Whitney song "I will always love you". On the second cruise another band, So Cool, came on and they were pleasant to listen and/or dance to as well. When some of the other so-called musicians came on we left the area! Quickly!! Guest entertainers were very poor. The comedians were terrible - American humour which just didn't translate for us. Of course, the Americans were laughing. We walked out of every comedians' show. What we did find funny was Liars Club and this provided a laugh on both occasions it was held. One of our travelling companions had to visit the ship's doctor to have an ear syringed. For a ten minute visit the cost was $246.60!! Just to see the doctor was $121. Is this extortionate cost really justified? Also this friend bought a bottle of water from a bar and was then charged for it again as if he had taken it from his mini-bar. It took him almost a week to get the charge refunded and eventually an officer came to the stateroom to apologise. Another unpleasant incident involved one of the hostesses at the Select dining room. On the first cruise this particular lady was all charm and each night we asked to be booked in for 6 pm the following night and asked for table 433 if available. This happened each night for the duration of the crossing and there was no problem. When the second cruise began it suddenly became a problem. The first night we went down and were told that we couldn't expect to have this table and that if someone else wanted it before us then she would let them have it. Fine - it wasn't crucial - but her manner was very "off". We spoke to the Maître D' about her attitude and he told us she was having a bad day! He said could we come a bit earlier the next night, say 5.45 pm and there would be no problem. Agreed. We entered at 5.45 as agreed and the hostess said table 433 was occupied. No big deal - we were escorted to another table - except that she had lied. There was no-one at that table and indeed no-one was there for the next hour. After that night the same four Americans had that table every night! When we sailed on the Eclipse we had two superb waiters and booked the same table every night for the entire duration of the cruise, no bother whatsoever. There was plenty of deck space on Infinity but not enough sun loungers. There were rooms, two in particular, which were hardly ever used - one was Michael's Club (reserved for suite users) and the other was Cellar Masters. Our muster drill was held in the photo gallery where there were no chairs. We were expected to stand for approximately 40 minutes. Not very satisfactory. Arrangements made for those of us back-to-back cruisers in Fort Lauderdale were not very satisfactory. There should have been a separate line for us so we could quickly get ashore instead of getting mixed up with the long line of passengers waiting for the usual slow US immigration and customs. To get back on board we had to duck under some barriers or we would have gotten mixed up with the passengers joining the ship. We didn't take any shore excursions, doing our own thing in each port of call. We didn't call at Lisbon due to bad weather, going to Ponta Delgado instead. It was touch and go as to whether we would get to Bermuda because of a hurricane four days before we were due there. We did call but the weather was atrocious, particularly on the second day and we had to abandon our plans. This, of course, is in no way the fault of Celebrity. Our beach day in Labadee was ruined as well by torrential rain. I do like the way Celebrity welcome you back on board with drinks and ice-cold flannels - on some days it was really hot. There was some good port information (apart from the maps, which were illegible) but you had to call to Reception for it, it wasn't delivered to your cabin. Our stateroom, 3064, was comfortable and I have reviewed this separately. Incidentally, tea and coffee making facilities are not provided but if you want them, ask for them. We were then given a kettle, cups, tea, coffee, milk etc. There is no free laundry on board. All in all a good holiday but we will seriously look carefully at the prices before taking another Celebrity cruise. Read Less

This was our 7th cruise, but first with Celebrity. Probably will be my last along with several other fellow cruisers. Couldn't believe that I couldn't book an excursion from the web site after being booked without giving my credit card each time. Then the credit card wasn't accepted and when I called and it was accepted was told "We know our web site sucks" by the 4 agents I talked with. Only one of the 4 gave me any useful info. Couldn't even tell me if Skara Brae was on any of the Kirkwall excursions since the excursions only had titles and you had to guess what each included. That wasn't their department. Could go on and on about the lies and trying to get correct information, but will give this example. We were excited about The Military Tattoo, but it left at 5. FINALLY, found the Shore Excursions desk opened to ask if we needed to eat before we left. Was told we would have an hour and a half to eat and shop once we got to Edinburgh. Because of being given wrong info several times, one of our group suggested we take sandwiches. So glad we did since we were goose stepped to the site and when I asked the tour guide when would we be given the time to eat and shop, he laughed and said that kind of time was not built into the schedule! The Tattoo was FABULOUS!! We were told once on the bus that there would be food available on the ship when we got there about 1. Guess what? It ran out very quickly and more was not offered! They KNEW all those people were coming back at that time and would be hungry. The staff on board were very good as was the food in the dining room and specialty restaurants. Can't say the same about the food on deck 10. Service aboard was fantastic except for Shore Excursions and pitiful to nonexistant for information before we boarded. And we were told we would receive an email within a week to rate our cruise. Gave them 10 days. No email yet.   Read Less

Norwegian Fjords-Celebrity Infinity August 15-25 We are experienced cruisers, this being our 26th cruise and 18th with Celebrity. We enjoy the many privileges that Elite status brings with it and have been avid, long standing Celebrity supporters. However, this past cruise put that to the test. Our last Celebrity cruise was on the Constellation last fall to the Greek Islands and we had none of the concerns that we certainly do now. Indeed, as a travel agent, I will no longer be able to recommend Celebrity without fear. So why the change of heart? Basically, it came down to inconsistencies across the board. We love to dance and spend a good part of the evening in the Rendez-Vous Lounge. On this cruise, it was so cold, it was uncomfortable to stay even with the exercise the dancing brings with it. We did question why it was so cold and were told by Guest Relations that the temperature around the entire ship was kept the same. ( basically saying we were wrong) We were traveling with another couple who found the same issue and so avoided the Rendez-Vous Lounge totally. The same heating issue was a problem in the Thallasotherapy Pool area. You could not sit in it without having a towel or blanket on. Again we complained to no avail. Yes it is chillier in Norway, so increase the heating! Another issue was the lack of enforcement of posted rules. There were children in the adult pool every day at any hour. We spoke to a pool butler the very first day who did nothing. The second day we spoke to Guest Relations in person at the front desk. We got a fruit basket as the solution. Still children were in the pool all day. The third time we spoke to an officer who actually tried to do something, but one of the adults with children started to yell at the officer so several adults left instead of listening to the argument. In all fairness to the father, part of the issue was the inconsistency on the part of Celebrity to stick to actual times. Some days they said it was 4 PM, other days they decided it was 5 PM. One day a sign finally appeared but still was never enforced. It clearly says adults only from 11 - 5 and still there were children of varying ages every day at all times in the pool and in the hot tubs for adults only. We spoke to the head of the Captain's Club who merely said it was summer and there were a lot of children on board- not the appropriate answer at all. There were adults with plates of food in the hot tubs and bottles of beer. The solution is so simple; a security guard or officer in that pool area. The buffet was an absolute and utter zoo. People butted in lines, saved seats and were indignant when we said something to them. "Excuse me" seemed to be an expression not known by many. Breakfast was the worst; one day it took us 20 minutes to get a seat. Waiting for toast was ridiculous, so we gave up and went to the main dining room for breakfast but were saddened by how long it took to even get served. Yes, the juice, coffee and pastries come quickly enough but since we don't have that, it took up to 20 minutes to have our order taken and then another 20 minutes for it to arrive. Although we hadn't complained, one waiter who had high social intelligence, came over and said the wait was because my wife had ordered cold food and I, hot food. Good try, but nonsense. The ship kept changing breakfast times and some days there was nothing at all available from 7 AM - 8 AM. Really? And as stated before, do not sit on the right side when entering, where service is horrible. At dinner, we fortunately had an excellent waiter, Jose, and assistant waiter Herickson. The food, however, was inconsistent. Some old standards like the prime rib, beef Wellington and lamb were superb. Some like "Pork and Beans" shouldn't be on a cruise line menu who was known for its food. Salads were poor, desserts poor and cold soups seem to have disappeared just as the brunch. When we inquired about the brunch, we were told it was a decision based on food sanitation as Celebrity had observed several guests had become ill just after the brunch. It took a waiter to explain that to us which we really appreciated. The hake, halibut and haddock were dry and overcooked. Celebrity used to have sommeliers who did an awesome job with wine. This cruise we struggled to even get served. The "Sommeliers" were glorified bar servers, nothing like the original sommeliers Celebrity used to have. Our friends asked for certain wines but substitutions were made without a word of explanation. Sometimes when questioned, the answer was we have run out of that wine. So why not be honest and say so instead of trying to sneak a different wine by. Strange that the very wine asked for was always available at the martini bar. Again, it came down to poor service. The one high note was Natalie, the hostess, who was as pleasant and professional as one would expect. The Elite cocktail hour is usually a highlight for us. Again, children were allowed in and some would run around, not the way an adult wants to spend a cocktail time. On the last day, again no officers present, when one child was running and screaming, we simply left. Again one waiter stuck out as out of the ordinary, Roosevelt was awesome. He really worked! He walked quickly, engaged in meaningful conversation, and took the initiative on many occasions by responding to guests who were being looked after by other waiters. He was again, perfect, the kind of service one expects of Celebrity. It is fitting to note that there are still crew on board who are excellent. Our cabin steward Ambrose was perfect. He was efficient, personable and nothing was ever too much trouble. The Elemis products have gone by the wayside as have the nightly chocolates. But Ambrose on Deck 8 is the kind of staff member one expects on a Celebrity cruise. Other than the few staff mentioned, there appeared to be a complete lack of interest by most. Dishes were cleared very slowly in the buffet, little communication, and general apathy seemed to be evident everywhere. We have eaten in Bistro On Five many times per cruise, but this time once again due to lack of interest or engagement by staff, after the first lunch, we passed. The food was good although increased in price from $5 to $7. Yes, doesn't sound a lot but when it is on top, we simply passed because there was nothing really special about it. We spend a fair deal of money at the martini bar. Again, inconsistent was the word to describe the experience. If you wanted a good drink, Adrian was the man. Many patrons kept asking for only him to make their drink because he went out of his way to match the drink to the client with outstanding consistency. The other bartenders were a hit or miss. The service was only good if you sat at the bar with Adrian as he catered to each client perfectly. For a time, we wondered if it was an M class ship issue. We loved the Galaxy, Mercury, and Zenith. In particular, Captain George on the Century told us he expected his officers to be visible and engaging with passengers. Indeed, at every single Captain's Club cocktail time, there were up to 5 officers there who would sit down and chat. Captain George was at every function for the whole 15 days to Hawaii. This time, it was very superficial and seemed as if they couldn't be bothered. Loyal clients really do want to be engaged with. We were on the Millenium to Alaska last summer and it was excellent. We have been on the Summit 8 times, and always happy, and Constellation 3 times as recently as last fall with a few complaints so this appears to be an Infinity issue. We had considered the repositioning cruise from Lauderdale to Valparaiso through the canal but will now take a pass since it is on Infinity. In fairness to all, the ship was clean. In short, what should have been a wonderful cruise when one says Norwegian Fjords was ho- hum and will cause us to rethink our loyalty to Celebrity. Read Less

As a first time Celebrity cruiser, we had heard that Celebrity was a step up from other cruise lines. We were therefore expecting something more. Well, expectations were quickly dashed. While the ship itself was well maintained and kept very clean, the rest was very disappointing. To begin, it has to be the noisiest ship or vehicle I have EVER been on. It sounded like there was construction going on next to our cabin every morning at around 7-9:00 am that shook the entire cabin. When we complained, we were told that they would have to be there at the time it occurred so they could verify the sound. Really?? My word wasn't good enough? I was making this up??!! As for the food: mediocre at best as others have said. Frequent repeats, hot items were cold or lukewarm. Getting service in the buffet was impossible. Need a cup of coffee or anything else? Get it yourself or you'd still be waiting. Service generally on this cruise was substandard. Our cabin steward "forgot" to make up our cabin...TWICE! In each case, we had to go looking for him. Guest Relations? What a joke. Shore excursion staff: get people who can make recommendations based on experience. We can read what the brochure says. Entertainment with the exception of the band in Rendevouz lounge was excellent. That band was abysmal!! The singers, dancers in the production shows were excellent! The DJ with the guy on the sax was just stupid. That act was just dumb. Would I sail with Celebrity again? Not likely. Read Less

I an only agree with many if the points raised by previous reviews of this cruise to Norway. Nothing you can do about the weather but it was so miserable on two of our port days that we didn't venture off as we had got so cold and wet the previous day, neither of us could face it. The ones we did visit in a window of clear weather were wonderful, but still fairly chilly, I should have bought a winter wardrobe. We had previously sailed with the lovely ship the Equinox, I am sorry but the Infinity cannot be classed as five star in the same way as the Solstice class. This ship is tired, outdated and scruffy. The Ocean cafe was zoo like in the pushing past you at the food stations, people walking around eating off their plates. Indifferent servers, who ignored you and repetitive dishes lunchtimes and dinner. On the plus side the pasta and sushi bar were excellent. The indoor pool area, is this a pool area or restaurant, and why do certain people think it's acceptable to eat food and drink beer in the jacuzzi, it's also a jacuzzi not a children's play pool or family sized bath! It was also very chilly in there, again not a patch on the Soltice class pool area. The Rendezvous lounge was dated, dark and depressing. People using it as a sleeping area in daytime and into the evening, why? That's why you have a stateroom. The Trellis restaurant was also past it's sell by date, tired, dull,depressing and frantic, dinner was at times just not enjoyable. Long waits for food then, it was move you out as soon as possible. Food a reasonable standard but some dishes need rethinking, for instance the Irish Stew would make an Irishman ashamed. The behaviour of some guests who could not understand what the dress codes means or how to behave in a restaurant makes me believe that they think it's just a hotel on water and they can do as they have always done on their previous holidays. Entertainment from the on board team was poor, and ammature, once again on the Equinox the shows were fantastic. The Constellation Lounge was a great place to be as we left port in the early evenings, the spoiler was screaming children from one or two families who ran riot through the area. On asking why children are allowed in a bar area, I was informed they were allowed in there till midnight! Older people, alcohol and running children do not mix, I saw quite a few older people nearly come to grief. Come on Celebrity, make it clear, well behaved, supervised children only! We ate in USS United States twice because the food was excellent, and it was nice to have an un rushed meal in a light and comfortable restaurant. On the plus side and yes there are some pluses, most if the staff and crew were brilliant, special mention to Natalie restaurant co ordinator, Silvia in the Constellation lounge, Ayu in the Casino, and our cabin steward. Would I sail from UK again on the Infinity, No, would I with Celebrity, yes but only on a Soltice class ship. An expensive lesson learned. Read Less

This was an experience that will lead us to seriously rethink whether we ever want to cruise again. We are not new to sailing, but a combination of things lead to a miserable overall trip. Infinity is older, and looks, feels, and smells like it has suffered heavy use. It was packed. The weather was uncooperative-heavy seas, cold and rainy, with one port cancelled for safety reasons. The fjords of Norway were grey and foggy, with limited visibility. After a full day of trying to experience and photograph in pouring rain, we cancelled and/or shortened shore excursions, and appreciated Celebrity's flexibility in dealing with excursions. The food on board was very good, but the meal experience, especially in the buffet areas, was horrible. Service was inconsistent-sometimes dirty dishes were removed promptly, and sometimes allowed to pile up. Sometimes refills on hot beverages were offered, but more often they were not. The hoards of folks pushing, darting in line, snatching dirty tables, touching and grabbling food, and generally being frenzied was overwhelming. There were guests from numerous countries, so there was no standard of waiting in line, walking on the right or left, or acceptable behavior in general. Our stateroom was a family veranda, for just 2 of us, and we appreciated the extra space. Use caution if you are booking one of these units for actual extra use-the roll out beds looked and felt worn, and were well past needing replacement. There were no laundry specials or packages, prices were very expensive. There is no longer a "promenade deck". The jogging track is used for waling, and using it is weather dependent, since it is uncovered. Treadmills in the gym that are on the forward deck really accentuate the rock and roll of the ship, so using them in high seas really accentuates the probability of motion sickness, so they are not a good replacement. Pre cruise interactions with the company were terrible-their website didn't work, there were hours-long holds to talk with staff, huge fees to receive hard copies of shore excursion info, and misleading information about cruise specials. No paper copies of on-board charges were provided at the end of the cruise, which can certainly lead to charging abuses. Although the weather obviously impacted our experience, the worst part of it was a cough/cold/respiratory virus that impacted huge numbers of passengers. One of us had signs of it on day 5, and of course we passed it to each other. Poor sanitation of public and private areas, crowding in restaurants, bars, and theaters, the advanced age of the guests, and overuse of the ship, just enhance the probability of disease transmission. All we wanted to do was sleep, and we can do that in far more comfort and economy at home. Having paid a high price for the experience of seeing how sick you can get in an overcrowded environment (and being fully aware that colds are not nearly as uncomfortable as norovirus), coupled with the experience of being held hostage by the weather, which is clearly unpredictable, has lead us to the conclusion that we really need to rethink our decisions about whether to continue to choose cruise vacations. Cruise lines have reduced the level of service provided to the point where the experience has suffered, and as consumers, we are fortunate to have other vacation options available. Read Less

This was our 3oth cruise and 4th on celebrity but the first on a Millenium Class ship. We have done the Silhouette and Eclipse in the past. First the Itinerary was excellent allowing us a lovely visit to the high spots of Scotland and Ireland, although would have liked more time in Glasgow and could have passed on the Olney Islands. As for the ship, it is older with the windows peeling in the buffet restaurant and the balconys showing wear and tear. Being Aqua class, it was not the same as on the Solstice ships. First the cabins were not like those on the Solstice ships, seemingly smaller and more difficult to move around in. One of the main reasons for our taking the Aqua cabins was that it allowed us to use the Blu dining room as our eating location for the whole cruise. On this ship unlike the Soltice class ship the Blu dining room was obviousl y carved out of the main dining room. It was small and cramped. The food was definitely a step down from our previous cruises, as was the service. Where as in the past if you wanted something from the main dining room menu that was not a problem we were told that policy was that it was not possible even though the kitchens were located next to each other. Further more the availabilty of certain things such as escargot, onion soup and caesar salad were a well kept secret that we only learned from other passengers. Where as we were easy going regarding seating often going to the bar to make the maitre D 's job easier on one occasion our table was taken over by a couple who decided to move and not for our finding friends to sit with would have been left with a dirty table. The service in the Buffet, was also below standard with dirty plates often on empty table and get your own coffee in the morning. In conclusion I am used to excellent service and a beautiful ship and the Infinity did not meet this. The "cruise" was just great. Itinerary, pacing, ports - and weather [WOW!]. Fellow cruisers were a delight, including those we met via the CC Roll Call. But the "onboard experience" on Infinity was just OK. Spouse and I had sailed on Galaxy years ago and wanted to try Celebrity again. We agree that Celebrity just isn't us. And that Celebrity isn't what it thinks it is - at least as we see it. We don't see it as an upscale step from Royal Caribbean, its corporate partner. That doesn't mean that we didn't enjoy the whole experience - only that if we were to do it again, we would look for the exact same itinerary, but on a different ship and different line. Read on to understand why. EMBARKATION/DISEMBARKATION Embarkation was absolutely easy & no problems. We are Celebrity Select based on our Royal Caribbean cruises. Walked up to agent, she was a delight, 15 minutes later we were in the cabin, then off to the buffet. Luggage arrived mid-afternoon. Getting to Harwich from Heathrow was a drag. Disembarkation was likewise painless. We had a cab reserved to 8:30, so asked for 8:00, which we got. We went to the Main Dining Room for breakfast, staying there until 7:55, went to the theater and our number was called as we walked in. Exit was painless and our cab arrived just as we sat down in the waiting area. We flew out of Stansted Airport [to Dublin], and the CABIN Balcony 2A #7118. Great location. A bit small compared to my recollection of RCI and Princess, but maybe just different. Comfortable bedding. Nice balcony. Quiet [though I realize thanks to the neighbors are in order]. Decent bathroom size and nice shower. But cabin and bathroom storage was not convenient. No desk drawer. Two small corner shelves in bathroom, all other bathroom storage under counter. Room Steward, and his assistant, were great and personable, and received a well-deserved added gratuity from us. PUBLIC AREAS Fine. We didn't like the mid-ship elevators being on one side only; seems like they were always "hiding". Customer Service area convenient with good, polite personnel. Overall ship layout was OK. Lounges were fine, though we didn't use them too much, except Constellation, which was the best ship lounge we have used; location, comfort, setup - all great. The theater, likewise, was the best we have experienced - comfortable seating, wide walk areas, good drink tables, good sight lines, always could get a seat. Infinity is showing its age and is ripe for an update. But of more concern is what I would describe as poor maintenance. Several door handles were broken. The sliding door to our balcony was "out-of-square" and would not latch closed, so a temporary latch was installed to keep it closed/locked. We were adjacent to a window in Trellis Restaurant [as requested], but the window was dirty, was never cleaned, and had paint smears from a sloppy paint job next to the window pane dividers. Things like that showed a lack of proper attention to routine, but necessary, maintenance and upkeep. Qsine was obviously added to Infinity, and looked to be just dropped into place on Deck 11 in the mid-ship elevator lobby, blocking all but one of the doors leading to the outside, leaving only one small door, that was not at all obvious and looked like a crew door, to get outside. Most of the doors leading to the exterior on Decks 10 and 11 were not automatic and were hard to open, particularly in the wind. DINING Just OK. We had the fixed Early Seating for dinner, and went there every night. We did not do any specialty restaurants. Food was OK, but at times perhaps too "exotic" for our tastes. I hardly ever order from the standard offerings, but did twice. The prime rib that I had was one of the best ever. But there were NO regional offerings - on a cruise exclusively to Norway! I asked about that and essentially was told they offer a standard menu; that they might offer something at the Oceanview buffet; I didn't see it. Service was good, but not exceptional. Waiter never addressed us by name, and was typically unable to really describe a menu offering. Assistant appeared to be new, but really tried and was fine. Oceanview Cafe Buffet was a frustration. The fare was typical and fine; lots of choices. But, as mentioned by "devoncruiselady" in a review here, it is a long U-shaped affair, and things were moved around. In order to see what was offered on a given day, you had to walk all the way around, including the 3 stations at the rear. One always offered pizza, another sandwiches +, and the third usually a British selection [Fish and Chips] but that was sushi one day having been moved from the Asian station. In short, it was an "effort" to assess the buffet offerings and it shouldn't be. We could always find a seat near the rear, and the outdoor deck was a delight, but was usually full, weather permitting. I FAR PREFER grazing stations as I have experienced on other ships. The constant pushing of the specialty restaurants was an annoyance. Even when they were offered at half-price, we didn't accept. We would rather spend the extra money on an evening out after the cruise. But this illustrates what is one of our underlying dissatisfactions regarding Infinity/Celebrity: it seemed to us that Celebrity catered to those who purchased the extra cost stuff at the expense - and annoyance - of those who did not. A favorite saying of mine captures it: the em-pha'-sis is on the wrong syl-la'-ble ! ENTERTAINMENT Poor to our taste. We are not fans of the production shows, and go to perhaps ½ of them. The ones we saw were not bad, but not great either. The other entertainment was mediocre to poor. There were no headliners. A comedy/magician had good illusions, but was annoying. Several other performers were British, and perhaps enjoyed by them, but not by us; we just skipped several shows. There was not even a comedian. How about local, Norwegian entertainment? There was none, just like no regional food dishes. SPA & FITNESS We did not use the Spa. I used the fitness gym. It was typically almost empty. The equipment was not bad, but like I mentioned for the ship in general, was in need of routine maintenance. PORTS The Ports were just what we hoped for, with adequate time at most of them. Great mix of large, medium and small. And with the long daylight, cruising in and out of the ports along the fjords, while sitting on our balcony, was just incredible. The Seawalk at Geiranger, to eliminate tendering, was neat. EXCURSIONS We did a mix of walk around town, Hop On Hop Off Bus, and ship excursions. Since what you like is so individual, I won't go into detail except to say we enjoyed most of them. The Hop On Hop Off in Oslo was overcrowded and not pleasant, and the headphones didn't work most of the time. The Flam Railway was very good, and a fellow CC passenger had pre-arranged a group of 20, which reserved a section of a train coach and saved us almost 50% over the ship tour. SHIP Infinity rode beautifully, though max seas of 5 ft or so were not a challenge. We very seldom felt motion, so the ride was great. Captain had the ship do a 360 at Seven Sisters Falls, so did the right stuff and kept things on schedule. SUMMARY I'll restate that we really loved the cruise, but because of the itinerary, weather, good health, etc. Infinity/Celebrity is just not something we would choose again. Too many things weren't "effortless" as we think they should be. Celebrity should spend the time/money it spends on pitching specialty restaurants on maintenance instead. Our reaction as a whole matches "devoncruiselady", though our ratings are generally a notch higher. Read Less

This is the 4th. time we have sailed with Celebrity and we have cruised many times before with Cunard, Princess, Holland America and P & O and it was the worst cruising experience we have had, particularly from all the food and beverage services. First, the good points. The ship was well maintained and looked freshly re-furbished. It was spotless and the cleaning staff were doing a great job. Our stateroom and cabin stewards were excellent. The itinerary was good with interesting ports of call. However when we could not dock and tenders were used it was unusually slow to get ashore. Perhaps they should have had more tenders in operation. We had 5 days at sea and there was a lack of interesting lectures or things to do. A lot of the activities were with the objective of selling us something Our main dissatisfaction was with the Catering side. When we sat in a bar area or in the restaurant it was difficult to find a member of staff to serve us drinks. We were on the classic beverage package, which, when we found the wines and drinks we liked was fine. We drank before dinner in the rendezvous lounge, the Martini Bar and the Constellation Lounge plus occasionally in the Café l Bacio. Many times there were not enough staff in attendance or they disappeared. They were not looking to see who wanted a drink or a top up. In the Trellis Restaurant the same was the case with the wine waiters. We often had to ask our food waiter to find a wine waiter for us. We were on select dining which meant that we pre-booked the time we wished to eat. We still had to queue when we came to the restaurant But Natalie was very good at finding us a table that suited us. We avoided the right hand side of the balcony as the service in this area was poor. The menus were average and sometimes the descriptions of dishes were poor or did not turn out as we expected. The worst experience was breakfast in the Trellis restaurant which was open seating. One morning we waited for over an hour to be served a dish of Kipper and a dish of scrambled egg and then it was cold. We complained to the maitre d' who almost shrugged his shoulders and said that it was too busy. None of the maitre d's give any impression of contrition or wanting to sort the problem out and other guests had similar complaints. Our previous Celebrity Cruise was in October 2012 when we sailed with Celebrity Silhouette. It is a bigger ship than Infinity yet the catering everywhere on board was superb with top quality food and service. It is that experience which made our experience of Infinity so disappointing. Not good enough Celebrity. Finally we were told that guest questionnaires would not be given to us at the end of the cruise but sent to us by email. A week after our cruise we have yet to receive it. We are frequent cruisers, mainly on RCCL, Princess and Celebrity and this was our thirteenth cruise with the latter. We chose it because of the itinerary (The Faroes and Shetlands ) but, unfortunately, the weather let us down - but Celeb can't be blamed for that. First the good points: we are elite members and again were very happy with the programme - in particular breakfast in the SS United States and the cocktail hour in the Constellation lounge (we were particularly pleased that they were not doing the voucher system as, because of the poor weather, the bar options were very limited). We had 90 minutes each of free wifi and were delighted to find that the system had improved since our last Celeb cruise earlier in the year. Logging on and off was better and the speed was much faster. The ship is getting on a bit, we prefer the solstice class, but it was clean, although a bit rusty round the edges particularly on the exterior. Staff were generally pleasant and helpful. The entertainment was acceptable, the comedian was good and the dancers energetic. There were two good 'beyond the podium' speakers but why did they have to schedule them at 9.00am or on a port day? On our last sea day there was only one talk and that was a repeat of one that had been poorly attended earlier in the cruise. As is now usual there were too many commercial presentations and too much of 'make your own' sports. Trivia sessions were extremely well attended (standing room only in the large Constellation lounge) and yet they did not respond to this by putting on extra ones. Following positive reviews from other passengers we had met on previous Celeb cruises we decided to try Aqua class. We knew the aqua cabins were on the ninth deck and would be affected by the huge overhang, but when the weather is bad and there is no sun, it is a serious disadvantage - the interior is dark all day. The stateroom was the same as a standard one - albeit with a better shower, free water and a bottle of sparkling wine for the sail away. The "aromatherapy diffuser" was nowhere to be found and only appeared after we asked our stateroom attendant (same applied to the "pillow menu"). Whilst there was a concierge available for us there was no suggestion during the cruise of any additional benefits. Open access to the "Persian Garden" in the spa was part of the offer but, when we visited it, it was empty - and we were not surprised as it was small, dark and very claustrophobic. Now to Blu - what a disappointment. The sales brochures talk about "cleaner cuisine". What does that mean? We still have no idea. We had been led to believe it was a healthier option but this was not the case. The choice was poor and far smaller than the MDR and certainly not full of healthy options (food was often fried, rich and lacking in taste) - we often looked at the MDR menu and wished we were going there. The food was well presented but the service was no different from the main dining room. The highlight was May, the wine waiter, who was both efficient and charming. We also were under the impression that you could eat when you want but it's not the case on this ship because the restaurant is too small and cannot cope with the numbers. And the tables are also extremely close together so if you like a table for two, and don't want to hear what your neighbours are saying or for them to eavesdrop on you, look elsewhere. We complained about having to queue, and then wait up to 30 minutes for a table, and were helpfully told by the food services manager on one evening that we should come at 6pm when we would have been seated immediately. The management seem to have no idea that, in Europe, we eat later. The Maitre D' tried very hard, and was apologetic, but the room is just not big enough. We will not be using aqua again. The overhang above the stateroom is a real disadvantage and the food in Blu is not better, or even healthier - it's just a different dining room with too few seats located too close together. If we go on Celeb again it will be in a standard stateroom and we will eat in the MDR.   Read Less

We have cruised many times before, mainly with Princess Cruises but also with Royal Caribbean, Holland America and Norwegian Cruise Line and in all we have now completed 14 cruises. We have been on one Celebrity cruise before sailing on the Celebrity Silhouette in the Mediterranean and Adriatic which we thoroughly enjoyed and we were both very impressed with the ship. Of course it was very new and the Solstice class so that may have made all the difference to our experience. We choose this cruise mainly for the itinerary but also because we were looking forward to sailing with Celebrity again. The Celebrity Infinity is our opinion is in need of an update, she is a bit run down and starting to show her age, the décor is dark and dreary and is very worn in places. For instance our cabin had spots of mould on some of the grouting in the bathroom and the washbasin had been damaged where something (maybe a chemical) had been spilt in it, this had resulted in part of the surface of the sink looking as though it had melted, this did not look very nice and made the bathroom feel shabby. The ship seemed to be understaffed so consequently a lot of the staff seemed unhappy and overworked. This was particularly noticeable in the bar areas where very often there was only one waiter so at times it took a long time to be served. Our general feeling was we were not respected as passengers and we felt our presence was an inconvenience at times. Main Dining Experience: We had taken the Select dining option rather than the set dining times as you are supposed to be able to dine at what time you like, you also have to pay your gratuities up front if you take this option. The Select dining is catered for in the upper level of the Trellis restaurant and we quickly found out that it was going to be difficult to get a time that we wanted to eat most nights as everyone seemed to arrive at the restaurant at the most popular time (7 – 7.30ish). After a couple of nights the lady who booked us in at the door started pre-booking us in a couple of nights ahead for 6.45pm, we were not fussy and willing to either eat on our own or join other people for dinner but there were no spaces available later than that unless we wanted to eat very late which does not suit us very well. it seemed a waste of time being on Select dining as we were eating at the same time every night so we just as well have selected the set dining option. We also noticed the difference between the standard of service received from the staff in the upper level (Select dining, tips already paid!) and lower level (Set dining, tips not paid yet!!) as we were seated in the lower restaurant on a couple of occasions and found the staff there were definitely more attentive. Oceanview Café: We never got to grips with the layout of the Oceanview Café the whole cruise and spent a lot of time doing a circuit around the whole of the buffet area trying to find the food we wanted to eat. We were then faced with the task of trying to find a vacant table and seats to sit down and eat which at times could almost be impossible as the area was always very busy. My husband did not like having to queue in the morning to get a piece of toast to then have to join another queue to get a fried egg and so on, and by the time he had got his breakfast most of it was only lukewarm. The buffet in Oceanview is set up in one long U shape and there are three stations (pasta, pizza and Chef’s special) which are hidden towards the back, separate from the main buffet and easy to miss which is unfortunate as they offer something different to the regular buffet. Café al Bacia: This is a nice area on the ship to enjoy a specialty coffee or tea etc. (payable not free like the standard coffee from Oceanview). We found very often we could not find an empty seat in this café to be able to enjoy a nice coffee. We think this is probably to do with the Celebrity offer (123go) where they were giving away the drinks package and so this meant lots of people on board had this package and were using the café so consequently the amount of seating in the area was very inadequate for the amount of customers. We feel the 123go offer may have resulted in a detrimental affect on the ship and that many of Celebrity’s normal standards have slipped because they probably have to cut back on certain things to cover the cost of giving away the offers to customers. On a more positive note we really enjoyed the ports of call and had a nice time overall but were very disappointed in general with the cruise especially as we were expecting the same standard as on our previous Celebrity cruise. After we returned home and reflected on our overall experience we decided to cancel the Celebrity cruise we have already booked for next year in Asia during March as it is on the same class of ship as the Infinity and we did not feel confident that we would enjoy it and would end up feeling we had wasted our money. We do enjoy cruises and no doubt will be looking to go back with our favourite cruise line, Princess cruises, when we book our next one.   Read Less

Just returned from a cruise from Harwich, Normandy, Dublin, Liverpool, Belfast, Scotland, Oslo and Copenhagen. Background We have cruised somewhat (7 trips to date) but are nowhere near as experienced as some. I do however travel extensively (100 nights per year) and therefore am aware of customer service. My initial impression was this ship while it was refurbished a few years ago, it really is showing its age. The colours of material used matches its launch some 13 years ago. Floors in the main buffet area felt at time soft and their was a definite odor in the bathroom that smelt like a cat had used it as a litter area. In previous experiences - Celebrity differentiated itself on food. While I can't say the food was awful, I can say it certainly did not differentiate itself. We were told in our select seating that we would have one side of the menu that would stay the same and one side that would change. Well both sides changed - and there was no explanation. PA announcement could be heard in our room at the start of the trip - but by the end we had to open our cabin door to here announcements. Again no explanation as to why something didn't work. Language - another observation was staff did not understand English. I cannot count the number of times we asked questions and simply could not get an appropriate response. They were great at wishing us a nice day - but little else. Tipping - I did not like the old system of envelopes and people showing up at the table looking for their envelope - Having said that the current system is not working either. Simply paying so much into a fund - does not promote good service and creates an onus on the customer to make changes - if they feel service was deficient. Revenue sources _ $3.50 for a Coke and a 15% gratuity on top is ridiculous. We had several people complain the beverage package rules changed 4 times in 12 days. Guaranteed Low Price - We booked our trip a year in advance and were guaranteed the best price. To ensure we got the best price we however need to monitor the site to ask for the difference. If Celebrity focused on the customer - they should advise us - not the other way around. Customer service isn't about self help it is about customer service. The onus is on Celebrity and not a customer. Mechanical - Power failure ship lost all power and explanation was not well communicated (see comment on PA system) I believe that a full written explanation should have been provided to each guest Hand Sanitizer - Apparently there had been a Norwak virus episode on the trip before ours. We had people dispensing hand sanitizer everywhere we went. There was no explanation and in some cases when you re-entered the ship - there was very little thought to this. You had to get a shot of Purell and three steps later had to supply your cabin card and remove backpacks, hats, sunglasses etc for security. Overall I enjoyed the ports of call especially Normandy, Liverpool, Dublin, Oslo and Copenhagen. My experience on the ship will cause me to look at other cruise ships with better service, better comu8nication and certainly more transparency, along with better business practices. Irony - In several communication pieces - daily newsletters and announcements - Celebrity talked about code of conduct - for travelers - but not once refered to their responsibility to customer satisfaction. The older I get - my measurement is what they do and not what they say. We are becoming less a customer and more a revenue stream. Perhaps if they looked at customer satisfaction - they would understand that it is about the long term customer relationship, that generates the long term revenue source.. Read Less

I agree with previous comments about this cruise. My wife and I have been regular Celebrity cruisers and were very disappointed about the downturn in Celebrity standards. Food in the main restaurant is now all "plated up" and as a result is not sufficiently hot. additional vegetables can and were requested but again arrived lukewarm and overcooked.Someone in the Celebrity management has obviously decided that the way forward is special restaurants from which one can choose, bad decision! such are overpriced and on this cruise the Qsine restaurant staff were discounting in an effort to attract custom. In early Celebrity Cruises there were no such restaurants nor were they required as the basic food offered and delivered was excellent. I agree also with the slow service in the cafes and bars and such we believe are the result of the "all inclusive" drinks packages available. Having said all that, it is a simple result in economic terms that if cruise prices remain constant against a background of rising costs then standards will drop. We just feel a marketing decision has been made which is wrong. On the plus side, embarkation and disembarking procedures leave other companies in the shade and when saying this a particular thank you to the Harwich terminal staff who helped when a return to the parked car was required. The staff were in general courteous and helpful notwithstanding some communication problems! Entertainment was good as was our Stateroom and steward. Overall we were left with a feeling of sadness at the lowered standards and will have to think very carefully before using Celebrity again which, after in excess of twelve cruises with them is a great shame. This was a wine immersion cruise, whatever that means. Nice ports, however average experience on the ship. The Infinity is one of the older ships in the fleet. Solstice class ships are so much nicer. The cruise left from Harwich, England, which was a good two and a half hour drive from London Heathrow. Embarkation was a breeze. No one in the the concierge line, so we breezed right through. Went up to the buffet and there were no seats to be had. Finally grabbed one. Seemed like every passenger on the boat was up there. Finally went to our cabin #8165. Aft area of the boat. Our door was right across the hall from the main crew door, which was noisy at times. This ship, the Infinity, looked as though it was time to get a refurbishment. Scratched walls, shower tile was dirty, etc. Our cabin steward came in and introduced himself. Very nice guy and made sure that we had everything that we needed. He even brought us an extra bottle of champagne, for free. Even though we were concierge class, I noticed that about half of the room service menu had been cut from previous Celebrity cruises. Also, they have cut out their free movies. All movies were $12.95. Dinner in the dining room was average to good. Same menu from every Celebrity ship. I wish that they would change it up a bit. Anyway, the food was much better than the buffet, which served the same food menu every night. The Captains Club lounge was nice. Complimentary cocktails each night before dinner. This cruise had some great ports, though. First port was LeHavre. Easy to get a train into Paris. We didn't need an organized tour. LaRochelle, France, was a lovely town. Bilboa, Spain, was a nice city. No need for organized tours. It felt like everyone on the boat was sick. Coughing, sneezing everywhere. We both caught cold as well and were sick the second half of the cruise. Entertainment was good. The Celebrity dancers were great. I would probably not repeat this cruise again, however it was fun to see ports that I'd never been to. My only major complaint was that Celebrity charged you for shuttles into town. Our last day was in Portugal and raining so hard that people didn't want to get off the ship, however there was no refund for the shuttle. Read Less

Where do I start - the worst Celebrity cruise ever! Miserable and insufficient staff - abrupt bar staff apart from Romeo (pool bar) and King Richard. Rubbish smelly cabin - needed mattress and pillows changed and stateroom to be cleaned thoroughly before we slept in it. Very apologetic cabin crew who were marvellous from thereon in. Booked late dining and a table for 4 but were allocated a table for 8 with 4 places set and 8 seats - table 100. Lovely waiters Edwin (Peru) and Joel (Mexico). Changed to a 4 place setting on night 4! Pool deck music - the same 40 min loop was played for the entire cruise. If I hear Michael Buble singing "sway" again, I shall cry. We took the Classic Drinks Package but had to upgrade on day 1 as the Oceanview restaurant only had Perroni and that was not included in the package so they wanted to charge full value. This was a joke when ordering wines at dinner. It sometimes took 3 courses to actually attract the ommellier's attention. She was appalling too! Wine tastings and Connoisseurs' Wine Dinner in the SS United States were rubbish -unusually cheap wines, sherry or tawny port at extortionate prices. Belly of pork was more like English riding saddles. Wine expert was a joke - even reciting the fineries of 4 ports in the wrong order - laughable! No duty free store. Casino closed on several nights as in port for stop-overs. Entertainment staff appalling. Swimming pools drained frequently. Cold hot tubs to start with Nd then too hot. Met a couple who had sailed 2 months previously on the Northern Europe cruise and had loved it so much that they re-booked for this cruise - they could not believe the downgrade in service, Staff, food, entertainment - I could go on forever. They even collected the pencils at the quizzes! Bingo was a farce 50+ people at minimum $39 and they played 3 games paying $100 for a line, $150 for 4 corners and $185 for the full house - that was the total payout ! That's probably unlawful! We had been on the Celebrity Equinox and Silhouette before and enjoyed them. As the Infinity had been 'Solsticed' we expected a similar experience. I am not sure how much was to do with the Infinity being an older ship or Celebrity cost cutting but it was not up to the same standard. It felt more like a 3 star cruise than a 4 and a half one. It could be that Celebrity has given away so many free drinks packages they are trying to recoup their money. We always go Aqua class as we enjoy the Blu restaurant. There is no booking system but we have never had to wait for a table there before. On this cruise, every night except one we were sent to the wine bar to wait, usually for about 25 minutes but one night the estimated time was an hour! This is not acceptable for a restaurant which you pay a premium for. Tempers got very frayed some nights. Once finally in, the food was still good except for the desserts which were not as beautifully presented. However, they ran out of some wine by the glass (due to the drinks packages?) blueberries and mushrooms, why didn't they restock at ports? Our Aquaclass cabin was not as large and we could not use the balcony due to soot from the chimney stack above, so much for paying extra to be on the top level! The Captain's Club Concierge did arrange for the balcony to be cleaned a few times but it made little difference. She did also arrange for us to have a free meal at Quisine as an apology. The other problem with our room was the rattling from loose fittings keeping us awake at night when the seas were rough. I don't think retrofitting the cabins is the same as purpose building them. A towel under the shower doors helped though! Some people may like Quisine but although the presentation was fun, we found the dishes to be of variable quality and there was too much of it. We preferred SS United States but even that was not as good as Murano on the Solstice class ships. Although the staff were pleasant when you saw them, there was a distinct lack of waiters in the bars and cafes meaning you had to go up to the bar yourself to get a drink. The Peroni beer was 3 months past its sell by date. We enjoyed most of the shows but a lot of activities on board were sales pitches. I went to a talk on Rembrandt but it was mostly about trying to sell his etchings for thousands of dollars! We also enjoyed the tours although some had very long coach journeys. After this expereince, I would not go on the Infinity again and would have to read recent reviews to go on the Soltice class ships. Read Less

We took the Wine Immersion Cruise on September 30. Our package included a free Classic Beverage Package for both of us and free excursions in Vigo and Porto. Most of the cruise passengers seemed to have the beverage package. The cruise had overnight stays in Le Havre, La Rochelle and Bilbao. The overnights are great because you have time for some lengthy shore excursions and don't need to rush back to the ship. Perhaps it was because so many passengers had the beverage package, but it was very hard to get beverage service in the main dining room or the Oceanview Café. Once a wine steward determined that everyone at the table had a beverage package, it was often difficult to get the steward to return to the table. In the Oceanview Café, my husband went to the service bar and presented our cards to get wine. We were ignored by the wine stewards, even after we asked a waiter for wine. As the cruise progressed, it seemed that the ship might have been running out of wine. It got harder and harder to get more than one glass of wine at dinner. We had Celebrity Select dining and ate at different tables in different parts of the dining room every evening. Many evenings, my husband had a soft drink, and I ordered a mixed drink. These were served by the bar attendants, not the wine stewards, and the service wasn't any better. We are not big drinkers, and I would never purchase the beverage package, because for us it isn't worth it. You can't get a cappuccino in the Oceanview Café anymore. You have to go to Café Al Bacio. The service there was even worse. I stood for 10 minutes by the pastries, waiting to be served. I was ignored, so I walked downstairs to Customer Relations and asked them how I was supposed to get waited on. They got the beverage manager to accompany me back to the Café Al Bacio. The staff also ignore the Beverage Manager, who apologized to me. I never did get a cappuccino. In the main dining room, the service was very slow. We often sat at a table for 6. Often, 3 or 4 of us were served, and then waited 5 minutes for the other 2 guests to get their dinner. There seemed to be a shortage of assistant waiters. Regardless of where we sat in the dining room, our waiter seemed to be doing most of the work. Getting a refill of water took 20 minutes, and you had to ask. The service on the Infinity has definitely gone downhill since June. We were on the British Isles cruise then. The food in the Oceanview Café was never hot, sometimes only lukewarm. Also, most of the food was highly spiced Mexican or Asian. It was difficult to find anything that was plain, as the serving pans for these items were always empty. The Oceanview Café was very clean. Waiters worked hard to clear the tables. Food was served by the dining staff, rather than self-serve. We were pleased to see this. It's much more sanitary than the self-service Celebrity used to have. The service at the Elite cocktail hour was great. If you wanted a soft drink or a cocktail, you were waited on quickly and efficiently. The Captain's Club hostess had a few favorites and pretty much ignored everyone else. She is not the same hostess that we had in June. Many ship employees had changed between June and September 30. We only saw 2 of the shows because we had already seen them on other cruises. Also, dinner took so long due to the slow service that the shows has already started by the time we finished dinner. Mostly, we took private excursions. We took the Celebrity excursion to Cognac. It consisted of a slow bus ride to Cognac, followed by a tour of the Hennessey Distillery, which was lovely, a short walk around the business district (15 minutes), lunch, which was decent but took 1.5 hours, a drive to Saintes, another short free time (20 minutes), and a drive to the Roman amphitheater where we could look through the fence at the amphitheater for 10 minutes, then a long bus ride back, with a slow ride through La Rochelle. The tour was expensive, and compared to our private tours, over-priced. We spent a long time on the bus and didn't really see very much. Also took the free Celebrity excursion to Santiago de Compostela. Getting a number and getting on the bus was a free-for-all. very hectic. Our tour was lovely. We had a very knowledgeable guide, and we saw a lot of the town. We were one of the first buses to get there, so we did not experience long waits for the restroom. With so many cruise passengers, the square got crowded, but our guide handled it well. Santiago de Compostela is a lovely town and the cathedral is beautiful. This was a great excursion, although it was a 75 minute bus ride each way. The Infinity is showing it's age. It is due for a major overhaul. The weather stripping on our balcony door was coming apart. The elevators seem to have a mind of their own, often skipping floors. There was a lot of rust on our balcony. The internet service was incredibly slow. It took 5 minutes to download 8 emails. Everyone complained about how slow the internet was. We are not impressed with the Classic beverage package. Many of the drinks cannot be purchased because they exceed the price limit $9.25 for the package. If you want a $9.50 drink, you have to pay $9.50 for it, not the .25 difference in price. That's just stupid. We were never offered an after-dinner drink in the main dining room. The wine stewards and bar servers were hard to find. Even in the bars, if you ordered a drink with your beverage card, the server never came back to see if you wanted a refill. It was as if they had been told to minimize the amount passengers could charge on the card. Also, if you wanted a bottle of water, they gave you a one liter bottle. If you asked for a smaller bottle, they refused to give it to you unless you paid for it. You could not get a bottle of Perrier with the Classic beverage card, but you could get a Heineken or a Coke. This policy is stupid. It just makes people angry, but it doesn't make them buy the small bottles of water. We ate in the SS United States. Fabulous food, totally worth the cover charge. In the SS United States, the wine steward was attentive. The service was great. There were lots of empty tables. Sad, because it was the best dining experience we had on the ship. Also ate in the Bistro on Five. The food is pretty good, and so was the service. We had lunch there. Also worth the cover charge. If Celebrity is going to offer most of the passengers a free beverage package, then they need to stock up on wine, beer and spirits and actually serve them to the clientele. If you do not drink lots of alcohol, the package isn't worth what they charge. Read Less

The ports of call on our British Isle cruise were nice, some spectacular. The busy schedule left little rest time for rest but that was OK. The crew was uniformly friendly and the cabin was OK. The "king size bed" was, of course, nothing of the sort but why quibble? Entertainment was first rate. Harwich, the dock, is a sleepy village 2 1/2 hours from London. The only reason to dock there must be low fees. It is in the middle of nowhere and creates a longer sail time. There is also the little matter of transport fees. Unlike the old days, transporting to any place closer than 50 feet is big business. We paid $500 for round trip since Celebrity could not (as promised) leave early enough to ensure our plane connections. (There is also a rail involving two changes of trains and a taxi -all with luggage.) The initial Oceanview Cafe buffet was horrid - obviously leftovers from the previous cruise. Gone are the days of service when waiters brought silverware and drinks. No, the traveler carries plates (no trays! - a new policy) then must get silverware and drinks - confusion USA. Glass panels block self-serve except at the salad bar where folks squatted, pushed their head through to reach the veggies and dropped hair on the food. The dining room was equally unorganized. Long lines waited for tables yet the young man who greeted the diners also had to search the ship when a table became available THEN lead them back to their table. Meanwhile, a woman at the other entrance never moved. NIght after night this charade was carried out to the chuckles of guests who wondered why in the world they didn't ask one of the waiters standing around to get the guests or lead them to their table. Excursions. Something we avoid since they are wildly overpriced and impersonal. We'd team up with other couples for rides to town or the countryside at 1/3 to 1/2 the cost. For some reason, Celebrity blocks booking excursions four days before sale (that's a new one). I was told it was because the tour group they used did not have enough buses and the tours were sold out. Many reports of folks sent on wild goose chases by employees unfamiliar with the ship. I was sent to three floors (3, 5 and 8) before finding the Internet cafe on 9. There is also the problem of understanding English beyond "I want that." A request for runny yellows in eggs resulted in something crusted on both sides (the poor guy smiled, clueless). The two-tiered policy of service was a disaster. Frequent travelers and "special" guests had reserved rooms that were uniformly empty. And about those "specialty restaurants". There is a reason for the hard sale prior to boarding. Nobody was paying the ridiculous "cover charge" for a "special" dinner. So discounts were offered (increasing daily), crew members pushed them to those waiting for elevators. We were with a couple designated "special" (they had no idea why) but who refused to dine or drink alone. Celebrity should reward frequent travelers with a bottle of wine, reduced costs, a free night at a "special" restaurant. Speaking of empty, Celebrity must expect an army of relapsed AA folks. The bars and lounges were ubiquitous yet empty except during dinner when folks searched for a place to sit while they waited on a table. The casino was likewise empty as has been the case for the past few years. Selling is still the primary goal. Wine packages (250-300% markup), coke packages, spa packages as well as numerous stores with overpriced jewelry and clothes. "Fresh" orange juice can be had for $3/glass (a lonely server never had a single customer that I saw). No rhyme or reason - ice cream and desserts are free but not coffee, water or tapas. The cooking demonstrations were advertisements for the "specialty restaurants". Recommendation: Charge $100-$200/ticket extra and cut out all the packages, constant selling and phony pitches. Give folks water, coffee or a coke (with ice around 20 cents). Reduce or omit internet charges. Celebrity is now hawking Apple products which is fine (I'm an Apple user) but what's next - Walmart or Toyota? New travelers were impressed as were Celebrity-only travelers (although many tired of the constant nickle and diming). But those who have traveled widely on other cruise lines were not impressed. I understand that Celebrity wants to cut costs but they're going about it all wrong. Use personnel for waiters - not manning empty bars and lounges.   Read Less
