I was exited to sail on the Explorer as we had sailed on its sister ship 3 times, The Mariner of the Seas a few years back when it sailed out of Pt. Canaveral. At first look the ship appeared to show its age and it didn't bother me much until I got into our cabin. It was a balcony cabin on deck 6. Cabin number 6306. Our relatives had the Royal Pomenade view cabin across the hall 6307. Our room had odors, smelled moldy. The upholstery was stained. There were rust stains on the balcony. It felt and looked like one of those old hotels you'd find on the side of the highway that offered the least expensive rate in town. Honestly I felt uneasy in the room. I didn't want to touch anything. The other balcony cabins we had on the Mariner were on higher decks, so they had a glass balcony which made it feel more open. Deck 6 apparently had the cut-out which I didnt care for at all. You have to stand up to see out. The main dining in this room had a different decor from the other Voyager class ships. This decor was an Art Deco style which didn't give the grand feeling like they had on Mariner. I heard the Explorer was the 2nd Voyager class ship built so they tried this Art Deco style on it and I'd heard it wasn't as popular and now I can see why. It was a bit of a let down. Still I like the main dining room floor plan much better on the Voyager and Freedom class ships. I sailed on Oasis and didn't care for the layout of that dining room. Wish they'd kept it the same as Oasis's main dining room want as open. Like the rest of the ship, the Explorers main dining room showed some wear and tear. I was disappointed that Vintages wine bar on the Royal Promenade wasn't on this ship. Instead they replaced it with some beat up looking sports bar. Vintages was one of our favorite stops on Mariner. It had s great ambiance. Mariner also had some really colorful Britto prints on the main pool deck which gave the pool a more colorful, fun vibe. Food in the buffet was marginal at best compared to what was offered on Mariner when it was newer. Hope Royal Caribbean sees this post and changes some of this when Explorer goes into dry dock for renovations. I don't think we'll be sailing on another Royal Carribbean ship that's not been renovated very recently. Disembarkation was very difficult as they changed disembarkation to the new terminal, so we embarked from the old terminsl and they shuttled us over to the new terminal in an old stinky bus. It was hectic and difficult. Not sure why they would do this to us. Bad idea a Royal Caribbean. I'm very suprised this happened and combining this with the smells and deterioration of the ship, I am quite seriously thinking that I am no longer going to be loyal to Royal. Up until this cruise, they were my favorite cruise line. I'm very shocked that they would wait this long to renovate their ship. Read Less
