This was our first European Cruise and we loved it! All ports of call were beautiful and interesting. The Celebrity Equinox is a beautiful ship, great food, restaurants and amenities. Our cabin stewards Danisha & Sachin made us feel like we were their only customers. The staff in the Silhouette Dining room - Hazel, August, the wine steward and the maître d were all excellent and added a lot of value to our experience. We really enjoyed the 4 Tenors of Rock and most of the nightly entertainment. The 3 sea days were a nice way to enjoy the ship and rest between shore excursions. Plus there was no shortage of things to do after dinner. My wife made regular use of the fitness facility and enjoyed its amenities. Walking the decks at night with a stop at the sunset bar for a nightcap was a wonderful way to cap off a beautiful day in port or a day at sea. We will definitely go again. Read Less

The Crew made the difference on this Cruise. Hazel, August and Sundep in the MDR were terrific. This 13 night Cruise out of Athens was a blast. Sister and brother in law from the U.K. flew in and joined us and made it a fun time. The Equinox was in great shape, the Crew do a really good job in keeping it imaculate. Kudos to Antonio our room attendant, fine job! We were very happy with our Balcony Cabin on eight. We had the Classic package and were pleased with the quality of the wine and other beverages that we had copious amounts of. The food on the whole was very good but they could do with a better selection of desserts at the Lunch Buffet and they should have rolls in the bread baskets at dinner. Minor points to be sure but it was noticed. Service in the Bars was very good over all. We enjoyed the Tenors of Rock. The Comedian and a couple of others. Not so taken withe the Production shows but my wife liked them. Different strokes for different folks. We are do it ourselves type of people regarding Tours. We don't want to spend 8 hours in blistering heat with a bus load of folks paying 100 Euros for that dubious privilage. Instead, for example, we took the local bus from Dubrovnik to Cavtat. I didn't realize we were going along half way up the mountains with a huge drop below. We took a boat back. We took the free Celebrity Shuttle to the local bus to the Train from Liverno to Florence return. In Ville Franche we took the Train to Monaco in the morning and to Nice in the afternoon. A lot of walking for us Seniors but it helped off set the food and booze intake on the Ship. We had a really good time on the Equinox in the Med. Read Less

First cruise to celebrate our 40th wedding, had an issue with guest relations which they couldn't resolve and not happy with their attitude. that being said we had fantastic service in Blu restaurant and the cabin staff. Don't like the heavy pressure selling. Organized our own excursions which saved at lot compered to celebrity equinox and met some really nice people. entertainment was a bit limited, one group which moved around the ship sang the same songs for the 13 nights, no change at all. Great to see so many countries packed into the cruise, shame about Istanbul, but we go back independently to see this great city. found the service in the bars good but the attitude a bit lacking, had a run in with a member of bar staff telling me they didn't have a particular beer even though I had seen it the day before, when challenged it suddenly appeared. will cruise again not sure it will be with Celebrity Read Less

Traveled with a group of 8. We arrived in Athens late in the afternoon and the embarkation was very easy. The shuttle provided by the cruise line (not free) was very convenient and much easier than trying to find a cab. The driver was waiting when we arrived and left immediately to take us to the ship. The service in the dining room was great and the room stewards did a superb job. The food had high points and average points but there was always something that appealed. Always love Celebrity but sometimes feel the prices are getting a little out of hand. This particular cruise was well priced and included air. The ports were particularly appealing and we were given plenty of time in port. Two ports were over night which is nice - gives a different perspective. The disembarkation was painless but the time spent at the airport was very long. Overall the cruise spent with friends was great and we will look forward to doing it again.. Read Less

We went on this cruise for our 40th anniversary. We had seen what we considered a really good deal on one of the websites which included prepaid gratuities, a classic drink package, and $450 on board credit. I would say that the ship was absolutely wonderful. We had 2700 passengers and 1500 crew and it never seemed crowded (except in the theater occasionally). There are so many public areas spread around the ship that you can always find a place to relax and be alone (well, maybe not alone). We ate most dinners in the dining room. The service was great! The food was inconsistent, They were able to cook steaks exactly the way I like them (medium rare) every single time and several of the meals were excellent, but several did not live up to the description in the menu.. I also happen to like spicy food--not necessarily "hot"--just with spices added. The food seemed somewhat bland. My waiter offered to bring me hot sauce or Tabasco, but adding hot sauce at the table was not what I had in mind. We also ate one night at Murano and one night at Silk Harvest. The food and service was excellent at both restaurants. As for entertainment: that was inconsistent too. 2 of the shows that had guest entertainers were very good, but a couple of the guest entertainers were very mediocre and one was just plain terrible. The productions put on by the singers and dancers are not for us, but they are talented. It seems to me that all of the lectures and classes end up trying to sell you something. Really, all the up sell gets very annoying. Also, the gift shop has ridiculous prices on most items. My husband developed a cold late in the cruise and had to pay $18 for a bottle of Dayquil! Also, the cost of the internet package! Only one package is offered at $299! We took 2 tours with the ship--both of them overpriced, but we used OBC. The one we took to Chania was pretty good, but substituting Chania for Athens--definitely not the same. The other one was transportation to and from St. Peters Square in Rome with a tour guide. We usually could not tell if she was speaking Italian or English, especially when she started to talk fast. Also, coming back to the bus, she walked so fast we could hardly keep up with her. We scheduled most of our other tours with local vendors and while they weren't all 5 star tours, they were much more reasonably priced and did not have 30 to 40 people on them.. Since this was our first time to Europe and our first cruise over a week in length, we learned a lot, But we had a great time and have wonderful memories. Read Less

I was very happy with the ship overall - its cleaniness and facilities were great, the syaff were happy and helpful but felt very let down by the quality, and choice of the food in the Oceanview Cafe (buffet). It was often cold and uninspiring and tasteless.and on a 13 day trip it got very boring. Food at the Silhouette Restaurant was also only OK and although the menu changed every day it was small portioned and average. We went on a P&O cruise earlier in the year and their Pantry ( buffet style) was far better. I was more than happy with my cabin but felt the staff cold be a lot more knowledgeable in regards to what was available at the ports of call if you chose to do your own thing and not take one of their expensive off shore excursions. I felt there could have been more guidance. Read Less

My husband and I have taken three other cruises on two other lines. This was our first Celebrity cruise. We were told it was a notch above many other cruise lines, but we didn't see that really. We loved the Equinox, the food was outstanding, the entertainment pretty good, the excursion and transfer we took were great, the cabin service was good except the steward forgot about every other day to stock something...once wash cloths, once toilet paper, once Kleenex, once shampoo. Everything else in our cabin was great. We loved having a balcony. We arrived in ports right on the scheduled times. The waiters in the Murano Restaurant (Olga, Daniel and another gal whose name I can't remember) were SO good at their jobs and did their work with a smile. We really appreciated their good service. Made the meal even better (and the food there was out-of-this-world delicious!) On our visits to the customer relations desk, we were treated great and every question answered with a smile. Everyone we talked to suggested we try a Celebrity Cruise, having completed 30 other cruises with different companies we decided to give it a go, Largest ship we have ever been on, oozed luxury in most areas always sunbeds available, Removed the gratuities once on board, however were reminded about them the day before we disembarked by letter with suggested rates to give. Tipped our cabin attendants only because their service was over and above expected. Inside cinema was very poor dark and dingy with very small screen, needs to have movies under the stars. The self service, open cafe was excellent with choice of food, very well presented. Silhouette Restaurant was used for any time dining, service was very slow and the tables were never ready when we arrived at 6.00pm even though the doors opened at 5.45pm. The Sky Observation Lounge, seemed to only have anything on after 10,30 p.m. Which was no good for people off on trips early the next day. This could have been used more for other entertainment during the evening, lots of people were saying, the timings on the ship were wrong, there seemed to be " dead times ", when nothing was happening , this was said by various ages young and middle ages, so not only us noticing it, strange really. The entertainment team, performed twice in the evening 7 p.m. and 9.p.m. shows were average, have seen better elsewhere. They only did about 4 or 5 nights, out of a 13 night cruise, other variety guests we saw were not brilliant, although the first act Tenors of Rock. were outstanding. The shops were very expensive, and took up to much space on the ship, suggest they rethink this, and use it for passenger entertainment, Music in a few bars is not enough for a ship this size!! sorry really not impressed !! Beautiful Ship, big bag of not a lot, shame really, would we go again, don't think so . Read Less

We chose this cruise because we had never been to Turkey and Greece, so losing Istanbul was a disappointment, although understandable. And this was our first Celebrity cruise which we wanted to try. the staff was excellent. All of them! the food in the dining room was excellent. the Bacio Café was probably our favorite spot, and with the guitar player...outstanding! the live band and sometimes DJ, before our 830 dinner was also great...nice to be able to have a few dances before going into the dining room for dinner. the only thing that really bothered us is that we had the late night dinner spot at 830pm and it would have been great to go to a show after dinner. we did go to the Sky Lounge on most nights and usually the music was pretty good, especially the first few nights. but after the first week, the music selection in the Sky Lounge started to waiver. there weren't too many people in attendance, especially after 1030pm. so instead, it would have been great to go see a comedian or some type of entertainment. we really missed that as on other cruises there was always entertainment after the late dinner seating. for this reason, we may go with another cruise line for the next 10 yrs, and then when we're a bit older, come back to Celebrity. all the ports were good, for some we made our own travel arrangements, ie Rome and Florence. we thought Celebrity should have offered a shuttle and a 2-day pass for Dubrovnik as 13 euros each seemed to be a bit much to go into the Old Town, especially when you would have to pay that again if you wanted to go into town the next day as well. We thoroughly enjoyed our first cruise experience, overall being excellent and we had a fantastic 25th Wedding anniversary. All the staff and crew were great and were always full of smiles and created a wonderful atmosphere and the ship was extremely well maintained and clean (even to my wife's ocd expectations on cleanliness and hygiene). The staff in Blu were exceptional, in particular of those who served us, Rey, Kayna and Victor who were outstanding - it was our 25th wedding anniversary and we were treated like royalty, nothing was ever too much trouble for them, there only wish was to please us. Our stateroom attendant Danisha was extremely attentive and performed well above expectations. As first time cruisers we took a lot of time in preparation, using the internet and the Cruise Critic roll call to gain information on the best type of cruise to suit us based on age range, dining, entertainment and destinations and value for money. In most areas this cruise met those needs, only failing in a few areas: Details of facilities in state room - only one Euro power point. No kettle in room. Very expensive to get clothes ironed after a long journey to ship. Limited channels and information on TV in Room Late night entertainment not based on age/taste of people that were attending - advertised as top 40 but was actually playing loud Latino music. As it was not well attended it would have been better in Quasar rather than the Sky lounge. Overall the dining/bar experience was exceptional but entertainment could be improved upon. It was disappointing that Istanbul was cancelled as point of embarkation but understandable given the safety concerns. The port change from La Spezia to Livorno was a great disappointment as we would have liked to have visited Cinque Terre. For anyone not too interested in port excursions (hard sell by Celebrity- best to book independently as we did) the facilities on port days were restricted - breakfast in Blu finished early rather than later - we would have liked a lie in after a late night. Too many luxury shops and not enough basics - the products offered on sale were poor value for money - what was the point of having an art auction every day? The Spa prices were ridiculously high - my wife booked an appointment, the time was not made clear and was charged $80 for 15 minutes of seriously bad hair styling (damaging her hair - hot hair dryer on dry hair with no products) - we did however receive a full refund after complaining to the manager. Hello! We chose this cruise because of the Itinerary, all across the Mediterranean, starting in Istanbul and finishing in Barcelona. However, this changed before departure, given the events in Turkey, Celebrity decided to skip Istanbul and we shipped from Piraeus in Athens. The itinerary was still good enough and we kept the plans. No regrets. The overall experience was incredible! Very smooth embarkation process, the ship is beautiful and huge! We were somehow in a budget so we had an inside cabin which was very spacious with lots of room for storing, good shower and restroom. Certainly and accounting on the amount of time you actually spend in the stateroom you do not need more. I would definitely book an inside cabin again to save some good money. Food very good. The main dinner Silhouette is outstanding, you could easily skip the specialty restaurants because of this. Ocean View buffets were always good and fresh. We had the 3 dinner package so: - Tuscan Grill - good dinner but not super special, you can easily skip this with no regrets. - Silk harvest - Pretty dishes and good food. Recommended. - Murano - Great experience! Recommended. The on board entertainment and activities seemed sometimes a little repetitive and I don't want to say dull, but yeah... maybe we being Latin Americans (34 yo Mexican Couple) are more used to other kind of more playful and inclusive fiesta. I would recommend more variety on the music in the pool area and more repertoire of the live music. It was the same music always again and again!! Very odd. In a second thought, maybe the entertainment was not perceived as super good since the demographics of the cruise were +60 yo people and they don't go along very easily. The theatre shows were great, I enjoy every single night of them. The one with the big hat in the scenario is an outstanding-Cirque du Soleil-level act. Great singers! Service was GREAT!!!!.... must of the time. Very smiley and friendly staff. The only place it was not as friendly was at the grill up the pool, where you get hamburgers and hot dogs, staff there was grumpy, but I can see why, it was so hot and standing so much time at the grill doing burgers must be painful!! The Shore excursions we took with Celebrity were good, and very nicely organized. However, I only recommend this for large cities with little time to see all so you will have the tranquility of not being left by the ship if something goes wrong or you're late. Otherwise, there are cheaper and reliable options elsewhere online like Viator. Or go around and explore yourself if the destination is a small town and not difficult to access. We would certainly do it all again with Celebrity and the Equinox! Read Less

I chose the cruise because of a deal that came across my computer, and then kept adding so who knows if it was a deal or not. LOL. Departing from Istanbul added to the mystique of the cruise, and we loved Istanbul, the city was beautiful and the people very friendly. Hotel Amira was THE BEST. All our ports were better than the one before, it was truly hard to select a favorite. Mykonos, Malta, Sicily, Amalfi, Rome. The weather was warm but beautiful. The waters like blue crystal. I had studied and planned and booked tours for each port and luckily they were all perfect. The tour guides, and the places we went. We loved Michael's Club, tho we had a drink package, we always found our way to that bar to visit, so there were bars and spots on the ship I never saw, Don't know if that is good or bad? We ate in the Suite Dining Luminare every night but one when we ate at Murano, and I liked the suite dining better. I liked the small feel and getting to know the staff. It was really a perfect vacation. Loved the grass outside area with the glass show and the concert on the green one night. There just was not enough time. Another sea day would have been great. Staff on the ship were top notch and the ship was beautiful. Read Less

Recommended by travel agent. From the go, with embarkation through to disembarkation, things went very smoothly and seemed well organised. This was an excellent romantic cruise that really made us feel like "celebrities" The food was brilliant and the staff extremely friendly and helpful. We had a great itinerary except for Kusadasi which I did not enjoy at all. The ship itself is very nice, I especially like the real lawn on top. The entertainment, internet and drinks were of a very high standard. The only down side was the expensive shore excursions. With the drinks package we had, wich was a classic package, we didnt seem to be entitled to much more than the standard package, or if there was a beer on our package they would often not have it anyway. Next time I will get the standard package. Slightly more expensive than other cruises but wotth every extra cent. I would recommend this strongly for couples wishing to reignite that spark. Read Less

Excellent ship and destinations and the arrangements all seemed to go smoothly. Our problem was service which was erratic and sometimes plain rude and unhelpful. Many staff were exceptional such as our waitress at dinner-but try getting good service on the customer desk-service with a scowl every time. I get the impression that Celebrity is on a savings drive. Our friends in a normal cabin did not get more than one shampoo etc all week and were told this was standard. They were so annoyed they may never use Celebrity again-save a few pennies, lose two great customers. Mmmmmmmmm. Our Aqua was OK, we rarely got all our extras without asking and the Aqua restaurant had such a horrid, fussy menu we didn't eat there. The Cruise Daily paper was often so wrong that you couldn't trust it. Portions at dinner are tiny and have been reduced since we travelled last year. It's good food but I don't want to leave the dining room hungry, which I did. Some of the corporate fun things have gone such as the dining room towel display-Celebrity seems to be trying to go upmarket whilst reducing the dress codes-mixed messages. On deck, no action was taken against people leaving towels on much sought after beds and going off for hours. Few drinks staff patrolling or cleaning up. There was a lot of good things on this cruise and we did enjoy but I felt that this was an unhappy staff, maybe they are facing changes but something is not right and overall I would say that it didn't inspire loyalty and not great value for money compared so some lines. This was our first cruise and aside from a few minor complaints, it was amazing. We booked a transfer from the airport directly with Celebrity and it went very smoothly with the Celebrity representatives at the airport extremely easy to find. Embarkation took maybe 5 minutes at most and we were on the ship. The concierge class room we were in was a great size and the balcony with chairs and foot stools was perfect. The bathroom had all the amenities you'd need and the shower was especially nice. One of the perks with concierge is the afternoon snacks and we managed to get both a fruit and cheese plate every day which were nice touches. Our stateroom attendants did an excellent job making up and turning down our room and it was always spotless. The only real minor complaint we had was with some of the dining options. On the first day, we were hounded at every meal about drink packages but thankfully that stopped after the first day. The buffet was slightly inconsistent in that some days they had an amazing selection but then on other days it offered plain, bland and boring food. However, the dessert selection was always amazing and I'm surprised I didn't put on more weight than I did. We also tried the Tuscan Grill which was pretty good overall but they brought my steak out well done when I ordered it medium and service was a little on the slow side. The other issue we had is that we were billed at full price but were supposed to get 20% off which took a couple days to get corrected but it was corrected in the end. The dining wasn't terrible by any means but Celebrity is supposed to be known for having amazing food and we were just let down somewhat on a couple days. The entertainment was well done overall. We only ended up seeing two shows but both were excellent. Especially the Tenors of Rock. The hot glass show was also very interesting and I managed to win a bowl that they give away after every show. We didn't use the spa or fitness area but took a walk through and they looked nice. The pools were almost empty pretty much every day after 5 or 6 PM which was nice if you wanted to take a dip when it wasn't crowded. However, it was pretty chaotic after 9 or 10 AM on sea days. The ports were very good overall. Mykonos was beautiful and the ruins on Delos were very cool. Everything about Malta was gorgeous and I'd go back there in a heartbeat. We did the Taormina on your own Celebrity excursion and were slightly disappointed but that was mostly because we aren't big shoppers and that's almost exclusively what you do in that town. The Mt. Vesuvius hike and Pompeii tour was amazing and we were glad we did that. The only downside was the stop at the cameo factory which wasn't that interesting at all. I'd rather have the extra 30 mins at Pompeii than get stuck there. The only downside is that the guide we had during our Vesuvius and Pompeii excursion was somewhat lazy and didn't even count everyone all the time. I'm surprised we didn't leave anyone behind at one of the stops. Disembarkation was fairly smooth. There was just a slight wait after getting off the ship at Civitivecchia for the shuttle to the port entrance but overall we were very happy and would do it again in a heartbeat. Read Less

I really used to love Celebrity, the level of service from the personnel onboard was so overwhelmingly friendly and the food used to be phenomenal. However, this last cruise to the Med did not leave me with a feeling of being well looked after and taken care of but more of a this is all part of the routine from week to week. We booked a Concierge Class cabin but really got none of the former benefits or even the promised benefits. No ice, only canapés on certain days, no choice of pillow, tattered linens, stained linens, disgusting smells in the cabin, rather annoying and somewhat disrespectful cabin steward and really bad food in the Oceanview Café and Tuscan Grille. The ports and the cruise itinerary were great, good live music and cocktails but the service just wasn't there for the rest of the ship. It makes me sad to see a once great cruise line begin to fade like Princess has. There are not enough staff and the one's there are overworked to the point of being abrupt and short with guests. Dining in the MDR every evening was a pleasure. We chose anytime dining and had the same table every evening, treated like royalty by Omar, Antonine and Ferat, the sommelier. The good: Our cabin was comfortable. Not spacious, of course. Steward service was extraordinary. Service in the Silhouette restaurant was excellent. Wonderful itinerary. The not-so-good: The food -- both in Silhouette, and the Oceanview buffet, was inconsistent. Of course the buffet is prey to the usual buffet limitations...runny eggs, lukewarm food. Silhouette did some dishes very well, others not good at all. We ate in the Tuscan Grill specialty restaurant one night. Surprisingly, the weakest part of the meal was the main course. Both my veal, and my wife's rib-eye, were gristly. Crew behind the Customer Relations desk were not terribly friendly or helpful...downright snippy at times. Port information handouts from the CR desk were often incomplete, misleading, unhelpful, and slanted towards using the Celebrity excursion packages. If you can figure out public transportation, you can save 90% on the cost of getting off the ship. I don't like the idea of restaurants that are only open to a certain class of stateroom. It sounds like the bad old days of "first class dining room", that I thought went out with the Titanic. They use the 3rd floor core area too much for music, dancing, live band's, DJ's. This causes the situation where you have to shout to be heard at the CR desk, and at every lounge in the central core. It would be nice to have a place to go for a quiet cocktail before dinner, or a coffee afterwards. Entertainment was weak. The house band (one source of the noise referred to above) was a cliche lounge act. It was frustrating to have an overnight in Dubrovnik, where we were close to town; but not in Rome, where we were a 90 minute train raid away. There was barely enough time to get in, see St Peter's, have lunch, and get back. Read Less

This was our first cruise and if we hadn't planned and paid a land trip for next year already we would have booked another cruise for 2016, never mind we are planning for 2017 now, so we clearly got bitten by the cruise bug. Since we have no other cruises to compare to, this might be an "over the top" review for seasoned cruisers, anyway this is our personal experience. We started actually our trip over a year ago by planning flights, hotels pre- and post cruise and looking for excursions. I found cruisecritic around the same time when we booked and found out quickly that this website is of great help and registered on the roll call. We were able to book some great tours with even greater people, a shout and big hand to John, Wayne and Mike for organizing the tours and to the fellow members of our various groups. After all the confusion on the net and the final message from Celebrity regarding canceling the overnight in Istanbul, we were relieved that we planned ahead a couple of months ago to start or "Meds adventure" a couple of days before embarkation day. Our flight with Qatar Airways departed Bangkok at 2.40 am on the 17th of September and arrived in Istanbul by around noon the same day, after some confusion which immigration counter to use, we were out the airport door and welcomed by our transfer driver that we had booked online. We were staying at the Antea Old City Hotel for the next 2 nights to come and after some refreshing out to explore this great city. The hotel is just within 10 walking minutes of all sites in the old city, we visited the Cistern, walked around the town, listen to the call for prayer at the Blue Mosque (it sounded surprisingly relaxing to me) and looked for some local food before called it a day. The next morning we had a half day guided tour through the old city with the Hippodrome, Hagia Sofya, the Blue Mosque (outside only in the morning as it was Friday and it was opened for non Muslims after 2.30 pm, so went by our self inside in the afternoon) and the Grand Bazaar. The guide was ok, nothing special, felt a little rushed through all the historical figures. Anyway the afternoon was for us and we went through some alleys in the Grand Bazaar, visited the Topkapi Palace (great) with the Harem (little to see there though). and visited the Blue Mosque inside, a little disappointment there as expected more, it is not that blue inside lol. The 19th was filled with excitement as we finally came to embarkation day, yeehhh :) But first things first... We had another half day tour... Bosporus Cruise, cable car ride with the same tour company as the day before but a much better guide, who took time to explain things and answering questions. We saw a small Mosque that was really blue inside, but unfortunately I forgot the name :( We were almost on a private tour, just with another couple from the USA (New York) who had finished a cruise on the Reflection the day before and the best thing was, they WON that cruise, some lucky people :) The driver kept all our bags safe in the car during the tour and dropped us off right in front of the Cruise Terminal by around 1pm. So here we were in the midst of hundreds of people aiming for the same goal to get on this beautiful ship :). We dropped our bags in the area were all the other bags for Deck 7 were and made our way into the building for check in. With all the screening, the check in procedure (we had our xpress passes ready), Passport controls, I think it took no longer than 15 minutes to get on the ship. So at 1.20 pm we were finally on the ship and we went straight to our cabin to check if it was ready or not, what can I say... it was, so we dropped our carry-on stuff there and made our way to the "infamous" (according to some reviews) Oceanview on Deck 14 for our first food experience on a cruise ship. There was no "mayhem" in regards of service or to find a table, the Restaurant was well visited and the service team handled our drink requests very quick and friendly. The food we chose was very tasty and after some fruits we headed back to town as we had to purchase some Turkish delight sweets requested by friends and family back home. After we were back on the ship we did our embarkation day "duties" such as checking out the dining room, we had requested some Spa treatment online before hand, so we went there to confirm our appointments and the unpacking procedure. Jenny our room attendant knocked the door and introduced herself to us, what a very nice person she is, we asked her to clear out the Mini Bar and bring us some additional hangers for the closet. The hangers came in 5 minutes and the Mini Bar was cleared by the time we came back from dinner. The safety drill was at 5.15 pm, our station was C2 the Ensemble Lounge on Deck 5 and was done within 30 minutes or so, with some moaning from other cruisers, well when the ship sinks, I hope you moaners remember what to do then... Prepared for dinner at Murano, we had a 3 dinner package and the first night Celebrity booked us for Murano. Great experience overall, great food table side prepared and of course excellent service. Wandered around this great ship after dinner and called it a day. The 20th was converted from the overnight in Istanbul to a sea day, which for us came very handy as it gave us time to enjoy the ship to the fullest. Checked out the Solarium with the hot tubs, had a drink at Slush and some lunch at the Mast Grill. All in all an uneventful day, which why it is called vacation lol. That evening was the 1st of 3 formal nights in the Silhouette Dining Room, we had chosen select dining (is on Deck 4) as it would give us more freedom after the daily excursions to relax before going to dinner. We were assigned for a table of 2 right by the window and boy was this a great area, kind of private, we had all the following nights we dined there either tables 475, 476, or 478. Jesus the Head Waiter and Vincent are great guys, with great recommendations each night and they remembered after the 1at night what we liked and knew our names. The Sommelier in that section was also a great guy, forget your name man...sorry :( Tall from Serbia, had great conversations with him about wines, Thailand, etc. always got excellent wines from him, within or mostly beyond the Premium Package we don't know hehehe. In general the food, service in the MDR were always excellent, just one time the lamb for my wife was tough, that was the only minor glitch in an otherwise excellent experience. To sum up the food and Restaurants now... Murano we wished we had the time to go there again during the cruise, but the MDR was so good, we couldn't make it. Silk Harvest was a nice experience in service and the food as well. We visited the Tuscan Grill on our last night and it was wonderful as well. We met a waiter who knew some people we worked both together in the past (I am in the hospitality business), small world. Bistro on 5 we never visited, we wanted, but did not have the time really... Each time we walked past it was well visited and NEVER empty as I read in previous reviews. Ocean View we went there once for lunch on embarkation day and all the other days for breakfast. Some hick ups regarding ordering OJ on some mornings, probably language barrier as neither me nor the waiters are native English speakers, but "fresh Orange Juice please" shouldn't be much of a problem. Mast Grill good for hot dog and burgers during the day. The dress code during the formal nights we feel was followed by most of the other cruisers, we did not stare around, but a brief look we felt it was well followed. The 21st was our first excursion day, Ephesus, organized by John and Pam and a small group. Very well guided by I believe a Professor, lunch in a local place, of course with a rug presentation, but in a nice way and not pushy. The 22nd was Mykonos, beautiful island were we took a half day Celebrity excursion to Delos, well organized, very windy, chilly and with some rain. Interesting excavation site. After our return from Delos we wandered around the harbour and had some local food in a very nice restaurant. The 23rd we arrived in Athens and we had joined a group online with PK travel. A lot of information from our guide, lunch on the way to Cape Seunion and well back in time in the port. Very fun day The 24th we had another sea day to relax and enjoy the offerings on the ship, that evening was the 2nd formal night. The 25th and 26th we had 2 days in Dubrovnik, both days we had tours with Celebrity, well organized and informative. 1day we had a Rivera Cruise with cable car ride and wandering the old town. that evening we ate in a little local restaurant just outside the city walls. The 26nd we had a tour around the coastline with wine and olive oil testings. Very nice and tasty with local snacks. The 27th was the last sea day as we were on our way to Rome, the last day to really relax and enjoy the ship. The 28th we arrived in Rome and joined a tour organized by Mike, saw all the highlights such as inside the Colosseum, Sistine Chapel, Vatican museum, Pantheon. 1 day or only a 8-9 hours stint does the city no justice, I am sure we will back in the future. The 29th we arrived in La Spezia and we opted on our roll call to join Wayne's tour to Pisa/Florence with a visit to the Accademia to see the famous David, which you are actually allowed now to take pictures off. Great driver and a guide for the old town with the Domo and the Accademia. The 30th we arrived in Villfranche and joined a tour organized by Mike to see the small towns around the Cote a zure, like nice and Monaco, this was as well the 3rd and final formal night. October 1st we had a tour organized by Celebrity to see Marseilles, Cassis and other small towns. Marseilles was a lot of drive by but hte smaller towns we had free time to wander around. Sadly October 2nd was our last morning and debarkation time for us :(. The night before we settled our bills so check out was a breeze, We had chosen 8.10 am, so we were not that much in a rush to leave. In the terminal we found quickly our bags on the belt and we were in a taxi within half an hour after leaving the ship. This day we used to explore the city of Barcelona with its highlights such as the Las Ramblas, The Famila Cathedrale, etc.... took a hop on/off bus tour around the city until the early evening. The next day we made our way by taxi to the airport and boarded our 3.45 pm flight to Doha and from there back to Bangkok just to arrive back in reality last Sunday. Oops... the review got longer than I had planned.. Anyway, it was our first cruise and all our expectations were exceeded in terms of cabin size, service teams, food and the fellow cruisers we met great and the not so good (some snobs and moaners on near by tables). Shows were all to our liking, the 2nd half of the cruise Celebrity had guest stars from UK got Talent, etc. who try to sell their CD's, which did not reduce our fun. Tons of things to do even late in the evening, we not joined many activities, since this was a port intensive cruise, but the ones we joined were fun, even the art auctions, raffles, etc.(rats...did not win anything..lol) We joined the hot glass shows more than once as we like the craftsmanship of the guys. Eddy the Cruise Director was a great guy, he left for his well deserved vacation after this cruise, not sure when or where he will rejoin Celebrity. Officers in were all friendly and very visible on the ship day time and evenings. Some Managers in too tight shirts and ties in the Ocean View were not friendly at all only when some guys who were higher up the food chain appeared, then they became chatty all of the sudden, funny :) I gave them the nick name "Secret Service" as only the shades were missing, they had already the in-ear walky talkies. To sum it up,finally lol.... Great Cruise will sure do it again, nothing to fault that would spoil the experience. We met nice people that convinced us that cruising is for us Read Less

This was our second cruise with Celebrity and our second in Aqua Class. We chose the cruise for the ports, especially to see Ephesus. We came in a couple of nights early and did some guided tours around Istanbul which was a pleasant surprise, as the city really feels safe, alive and full of interesting sights where the very old and the new seem to sit so well together. The ship was excellent, clean, staff really friendly and we love Aqua Class. It was a full ship but never felt crowded. Shore excursions were good and I think good value. on 4 of the ports we chose to do our own think and just explored, get up late and lounge about the ship. We chose an excursion on our disembarkation day, Barcelona and traveled to Montserrat which was spectacular, a close third to Ephesus and Dubrovnik. The bus then dropped us off at the airport and we took a shuttle to our hotel. The process of embarkation and disembarkation was hassle free and well organized. Our cabin was clean, loved the nightly treats, the flavored water, even the bottle of sparkling wine ready for us on arrival. The fresh fruit was also a nice treat. We were on the 11th floor and so decided that one way to combat the effects of food was to always use the stairs, I think we used the elevator once in the whole trip! Aqua class was worth it, if only for the dinning at Blu. never had a bad meal and always well cooked and presented. If you want fries and a burger then this is perhaps not the place for you, but you can always find them at the Ocean View buffet. However if you are adventurous and want to try some new foods, as well as some safe old favorites , this is the place to do it. We had great staff here, especially the wine waiter and Dr Oz, our server who always had great suggestions. We bought a package to eat at all the 3 specialty restaurants, all were great and I think my favorite was Tuscan Grill. I liked the Asian restaurant but have to say I miss Qsine. We also had a classic beverage package added to our initial booking and I upgraded this to premium for 10$ a day, worth it to drink my favorite scotch and wines, but my wife was happy with the classic and so was able to upgrade one of the two packages without any problems. The buffet on 14 was great. We had a GI upset outbreak onboard and I felt that the staff went a long way towards reassuring us they had things under control. However for a few days we were served at the stations rather than self service, no big deal. You could hardly move 10 feet without someone offering to squirt hand sanitizer on your hands. We usually had breakfast here and lunches. The Cafe on the 5th floor is a great place to get your java fix and the rare appearance of their carrot cake was worth the wait! Attended a couple of the shows , especially the Cirque de Soleil type, and enjoyed them but other nights had enough other things going on, there seems to be music where ever you go on the ship, spoiled for choice. We looked at some negative comments posted before our cruise, and also overheard some complaints but really I could find no fault with this cruise and enjoyed every moment and are looking at when we can go back again. You can't please everyone but I think also you have to ask yourself why you are on a cruise, and in those particular ports. It is not "home" but that's part of the excitement of visiting new and strange places. Read Less

This was about my 50th cruise 3rd with Celebrity, what a total waste of time and money, all of the content is in my opinion and not aimed to be slanderous in any way, this review is factual and was what experienced by my wife and our three children. Firstly our day in Istanbul was cancelled due to security risks!! poppy cock and the incident happened in Izmir some 50 miles away, would Celebrity cancel a cruise from Miami if there was a security scare in Orlando? no compensation offered for this very last minute alteration to the itenery, we were not allowed to go ashore after boarding at 13.00 hrs and sailing at 23.10 hrs. Due to the day in Istanbul being cancelled the first day was spent at sea at a walking pace which was good for Celebrity as the ship became a " Cash Cow " for the cruise line. On boarding the ship it appeared to be filthy and on our balcony there was green mouldy water in the gullies, this remained for 12 days until pointed out to the guest relations. As soon as we emerged in public areas we were hassetled to upgrade the drinks packages and was then left alone once agreed to. This ship had an extremely unhappy crew and good service was the last thing on the majority of the staffs mind, I suppose having over 60 different nationalities is difficult to achieve working harmony. With a novo viorous outbreak on day one later confirmed the ship became very awkward with no books in the library, no self service available in the buffet and no mini snacks in the bars such as nuts and pretzels. To get a decent meal on board along with service you had to pay the surcharge to eat in the specialty venues, the food in the main dinning room was bland uninteresting and often served luke warm and overcooked, tables were no prepared with missing cutlery and crockery all in all food has been better on cross Chanel ferries. Cabin service was OK but when the staff wanted to service they came in and worked around us trying to get changed and pack on the final evening. On one instance we saw a cockroach in the dinning room pointed it out to a member of staff who denied by stating "no bugs on this ship !!" Then a few minutes later returned with a black bottle top saying this was the bug, trying to make light of the situation which I found to be most insulting. In summary this has been by far the worst cruise I have ever taken, bore no resemblance to previous Celebrity cruises and just could not believe how rude and arrogant so many of the staff were. On the plus side the shore excursions were good but vastly overpriced and the entertainment was above average. I am sure the Equniox is just an unhappy filthy ship and the other members of the fleet will be much better, this was the view of other passengers on board some who had taken over 20 Celebrity cruises and vowed it would be their last. Let's hope you are more lucky than us should you choose Celebrity. Read Less

I want to give it a 3.5 if 3 is average and 4 is very good. After thorough researching I though I found a cruise ship with good food. I thought that with celebrity aligning themselves up with top chef and overall other friends of mine saying the food was not bad in the oceanview cafe, I thought it was be safe to assume MDR, and the pay restaurants would be great. After my first experience at the MDR I was very dissapointed. MDR Service was very slow, took over 2 hours to finish a meal (maybe because we were the last seating? on fixed time), food was oversalted, and our waiters failed to mention that you had to request more than a day in advance to have less salt on your meal as the meals were preprepared, we only found that out when we had lunch randomly in silhouette on deck 4 about 2/3's of the way through our cruise. We bought the pay dining package so we sampled the silk harvest, murano, tuscan grill, and paid 10 for bistro on 5. Good: Murano had good food and great service pastries with a tart/hard shell were good. Crepes on bistro on 5 were pretty good. some items of the oceanview cafe were decent Bad: Murano's tables by the windows are shaky at times depending on I'm guessing the engine of the ship/anchor raising? MDR had terrible food all around and lousy service Our Maitre'd did not seem very interested in helping us out as we did not want to dine (deck 3 silhouette) Food in general was overly salty Tuscan grill managed to top the terrible food and service of the MDR. - the veal steak I had tasted like I was eating salt with texture, no flavor, no grill flavor, lacking beef flavor. - Server did not even ask me how well I wanted my steak done and went away - tiramisu lacking marscapone Note: Silk harvest is very far from traditional asian dishes, their concept is more fusion/tapas style, like things you would get at an izakaya. The fusion is also not created with asian palate in mind. We were on fixed time dining, as there was not enough room for the other one where you show up when you want to eat. entertainment was ok considering there aren't many facilities for that type of stuff on the celebrity with all it's bars, and pay to eat areas, definitely nothing compared to even the older freedom class from RCCL. cabin, one additional note, our attendant always didn't provide enough toiletries for our stateroom even upon our repeated requests, we'd end up having to request it late at night after dinner after reembarking. Room service was nice For concierge, you have fresh squeezed juice as part of the enhanced menu of room service, if you didn't purchase drink packages, it's good to make use of the room service menu for fresh squeezed juice in the mornings. We never opted for the canapes as we prefer sitting and eating at a dining area. Embarking and disembarking went very smoothly. The shops on the ship seemed overpriced, I looked up some of the items such as watches on amazon and you could purchase it far cheaper in US on Amazon. The itinerary was great. I thought they would refund us money in terms of onboard credit for charging for an extra day in istanbul, and leaving one day early due to their perception of threat and safety, but we received extra hours in some ports instead, which I'm not sure if it costed them any extra in port charges. Technically I think they should refund that to us in OBC as it was paid for the extra day in Istanbul and we didn't receive that service. Not sure if ports charge per hour or per day for mooring, though even if it's per hour, we lost something like 20 hours, and gained perhaps 8 hours on the other ports? not much transparency on how that was charged to us. We cruised for two weeks from Istanbul to Barcelona on 24th August. We were surprised at how Celebrity standards had slipped since we last cruised with them. We had a novovirus outbreak for the entire cruise but communication was bad and we had to rely on rumour which suggested there were up to 450 cases. Plates were dirty, cups were chipped and cracked and service was more akin to a Greek ferry. Constant pressure to upgrade beverage packages and overpriced port shuttles where, in some cases, there were free port shuttles. We left Istanbul early due to some perceived security threat. We were to sail at 9pm on 24th instead of 1pm on 25th; we missed out on much of the fascinating city of Istanbul. Eventually sailed at midnight so I guess the security threat was not too serious. Never again Celebrity. Read Less

We've cruised with Celebrity before (on Eclipse) and loved it. Equinox is a fine ship, our restricted view balcony cabin was great (the view was only partially restricted) and the itinerary should have been fantastic. Unfortunately the cruise got off to a bad start as Celebrity decided not to stay in Istanbul. The stay in Istanbul was the main reason for choosing this cruise. The day before we were due to fly out we received an email which was stated to be from Celebrity but was not from a Celebrity email address and had no Celebrity branding. It also had an embedded link which looked extremely suspect - my email system had placed it straight into spam as it appeared highly suspect. It was not until we arrived in Istanbul that we received a message to tell us of the change of itinerary. Fortunately we had traveled out independently and had some of one day in Istanbul (without incident), but to spend the following day at sea instead of seeing more of the wonderful sights of this amazing city was galling. We are careful travelers and knew that there had been some incidents in Istanbul and been following government travel warnings, but Celebrity's decision to cancel overnight stops in the city is in our view a complete overreaction. If Istanbul isn't safe, why bring us all there to start/end our cruises?? By all means issue warnings/advice if you think there are safety issues but let us make our own decisions as to whether we go ashore. By the third day of the cruise it was apparent that there was an issue with Norovirus. The buffet self service was cancelled, with items being served by staff for the remainder of the cruise. This led to frustrating experiences with staff often unable to understand what we'd asked for and long queues. The ice disappeared from the Martini bar, which ruined its atmosphere, and items kept being removed from our cabin, never to reappear (cushions, the valance from the bed, glasses, paper) - the atmosphere on the cruise became more and more muted as the cruise went on. To be fair Celebrity were clearly making efforts to sanitise the ship, but it did not make for a pleasant cruise. We were affected by the Norovirus which wiped out our cruise from day 5 onwards, which naturally had a bearing on our enjoyment! Many of the staff had also contracted the virus, which led to poor service due to reduced staff numbers and staff taking on unfamiliar roles. Our previous very positive experience on Eclipse, when everything went right, won't necessarily stop us sailing with Celebrity again, but this cruise was not good and we were glad to get home. Overall the cruise was very good. It helped immensely getting to know Cruise Critic Roll Call guests and small group tours organized before the trip, as the lack of entertainment and activities were apparent on this sailing. Compared to the extraordinary interaction between Guests and Crew aboard the Celebrity Century, this cruise was the complete opposite. The Cruise Critic Celebrity Connections party was lack lustre and seemed an imposition to conduct (again, compared to the Celebrity Century which was absolutely fabulous!). The ports of call: Istanbul, Mykonos, Sicily, Salerno were very nice. Malta being our favourite. Celebrity called us 4 days prior to our cruise offering to upgrade us from AQ-1 to a Sky Suite 2. We very much enjoyed the upgrade, Luminae Restaurant being a huge perk, as well as the complimentary dinner in a Specialty Restaurant, we chose SILK. Downside, we lost our Persian Garden Spa Access with the upgrade (although we were told we wouldn’t) and the upgraded cabin was in a rather noisy location. However! saying that, we had NO regrets with the upgrade. Our Butler John was excellent and the room itself was very nice. Butler John and Cabin Steward Gilbert went above and beyond - very much appreciated their efforts. Entertainment was lack lustre and the theatre lacked shows (as compared to other cruises). One night of movie on the lawn (which was super great) and also watched a movie in the Theatre, as no show was offered that evening. Corning Glass show was excellent - really talented artists. Molecular Bar was downsizing and half of the drinks were not offered and/or they were out of stock on ingredients for others. Celebrity Equinox was a lovely ship, the staff are friendly and helpful. Celebrity Officers were scarce and more distant. If you wanted a photo op, “book an appointment". Read Less
