If you have kids don’t choose this ship, long queues for water slides with no other entertainment for them. I had the wellness experience which entitled me for free sod drinks, water, wine all over my stay with 2 free shore execrusions, that i had realized later as reception didn’t inform me about it, more over they charged me for bottled water to my room that was included in my package for free. Overall boring, room attendance was only finding execuses for not cleaning our cabin and blame the amount of rooms he has to clean overall very bad experience with lack of entertainment, don’t get excited with photos they publish, the only positive point is that since ship is new there is no problems or faulty yet in room, fast internet is available with a cost ofcourse, I have been to NCL which was 100 times better, welcoming staff and good entertainment for kids and adults Read Less

I wanted to experience the mediterranean without having to move from hotel to hotel so I thought a cruise would be a great alternative when travelling alone. I was apprehensive to say the least after reading what other people had written in their reviews. The flights were long but reasonable (I flew Etihad). I had 3 nights in Genoa before embarking the Magnifica staying at the Grand Savoia Hotel. It was beautiful, luxurious and well positioned close to the centre of town. Food and staff were wonderful. Worth the extra expense. Joining the ship was ok, organised, but not explained very well. Perhaps that is because being Australian it was difficult to hear the English announcements over the PA as everyone was noisy and talking. Considering the number of people to be processed, I think the wait was about an hour. The boat was clean, well maintained and the staff spoke a number of languages. 80% of the people on my cruise were 60 yrs + the rest were couples or families. I only met two other people travelling alone during my time on board. Most were german, dutch, russian, spanish or italian. I liked the european flavour even though I didn't have many people who I could chat to. There were many bars offering a variety of entertainment each night, catering to a large audience as well as theatre shows. There was a wide selection of activities for all ages and I found the food to be exceptional in choice and quality catering to all tastes. I booked and paid for all my shore excursions before I left Australia, this was definitely a much easier way to do it, as the booking office was very busy on board and saved me having to wait in line. I found all the excursions informative and fun, but a couple of the tour guides spoke more in an alternative language than english, so I didn't understand what was being said. The cabin was clean and tidy, but by no means luxurious. I had a balcony, which was worth the extra money in my opinion. The disembarkation process was a lot quicker than getting on and I liked how organised the staff were with getting so many of us off and connected to our luggage so easily. I stayed for another 3 days in Genoa at the Novotel before returning to Aust. It was ok but no nearly as nice as the Savoia (note to self, don't stay in a less expensive hotel after you have experienced a luxurious one). I will do another cruise next year and take my daughter. I am looking forward to it. Read Less

I spent 3 nights on MSC Fantasia, sailing from Genoa to Barcelona, Marseille and then back to Genoa. It was short but absolutely wonderful, mediterranean winter sailing at his best on the finest of all ships. I stayed in the Yacht Club, which is to say MSC cruises luxurz experience: larger cabins, a dedicated lounge, restaurant, a personal buttler to accomodate any of my needs right there and then. Food was delicious as always on MSC cruises, across all restaurant and buffets. The dedicated YC restaurant being the pinnacle of the experience, equivalent to a Michelin-star restaurant I went to the gym every day at differnet timings. Staff was friendly and forthcoming and there were always plenty of space and free cardio machines. No lines, no queues like on other ships with smaller gyms. All machines were Technogym top of the range, in excellent conditions. Plenty of free weights, space for yoga, equipment of all sorts. Friendly and efficient Read Less

We chose this as it was available! We thought P and O was a reputable company. The Oceana itself is very tired, and desperately in need of upgrading and modernising. Our first impression on embarking showed it to be dark and old fashioned inside. We had chosen a suite , so expected a few perks as we have had on other cruises when paying for a suite. But no Speedy boarding at either the airport ( it was a Fly Cruise) or the ship. The only benefit was breakfast where we had a quieter separate area for breakfast, and occasionally for dinner. Food was good n the whole. Wine list was good too.Staff were friendly and attentiveness on the whole. On other cruises perks had been reserved seating in the theatres too, not so here. However the entertainment was spectacular. We only used the tiny adult pool once. We don't enjoy busy tourist resorts, and the pool areas were just like this. They were heaving with noisy, beer drinking passengers. There should be larger pools, or perhaps one more? It was a bit like an upmarket Ibitha seaside resort i imagine . Our cabin suite was of reasonable size, though again, very tired. Furniture was dark and in need of upgrading. The balcony again, of reasonable size, needed freshening and making a bit more luxurious rather than functional. There wasn't a separate lounge area for Suite guests. We have enjoyed this on previous Cruises, being able to get snacks and drinks at any time of day. Any drinks or snacks on Oceana had to be paid for, after queuing . The lunchtime buffet, whilst looking to be quite good in selection and quality, was again heaving with people, with Butlin style queues. Read Less

Don't take it! We did it on her first week and we regret the money we spent. Yes, Diadema si new and big but don't expect services as on the other ships or cruise companies unless you are OK with spending thousands of dollars more for the paid services on board. Diadema is made that way is driving you to the paid services. For example, in the regular restaurant during diner, the food is coming very late, cold and most of the time with no taste. Also there is no buffet dinner on the entire ship. You have to go to the restaurant every night and if you don't like the cold and no taste food, your only choise not to go to bed empty stomach is to pay 25 euro per person plus drinks and eat at the paid restaurants and ONLY if you are lucky enough to get a table. We were NOT! People are litterally fighting for a cup of free coffe during lunch and some sweets and fruits! There are too many passangers and not so much help and stuff. The helpers are walking like ghosts on Diadema - they are too exhausted and they also look freightened by the supervisors who are yelling of them in front of the cruisers if something is not OK. If you are calling trhe Customer Service from your cabin or from any phone on the ship, you need to be very patient. You will hear music for 20-30 minutes until someone is picking up and than again 2-3 hours until someone appears at your door. Back to food, forget about eggs at breakfast. They don't serve eggs, ommlets or anything with eggs. The lines for breakfast and lunch at the buffet are the longest I ever seen on a cruise. Same with the lines made on each stopping port at embarkation. I am sorry to say all of this because we are Costa fans. We hope some of the problems will be repaired in time. There is one good thing about Diadema thou: the entertainment! Excelent singers and performers, great dancers, live bands, DJ's, excelent drinking bars, excelent entertainment team. Thumbs up for them because they saved our vacation. Read Less

the destination were very nice, however Costa is not one of my favorite cruise lines. As a previous cruiser I have taken cruises from different cruise line, and Costa is actually the one I like the least. I thought Carnival was bad but it doesn't compared to Costa, overall the food was not that great, they force you to go to the dinner at the restaurant which the food there weren't many variety. Being Italian I thought the pizza would be tasty, but it was just bread with bad tomato sauce. For Room Service you have to pay for it. also for the basketball court, ping pong, and miniature golf, basically all the facilities you have to pay. The entrainment was ok if you were Brazilian, the team were more tailor for Brazilians they were constantly speaking Portuguese, sometime they tried to speak in English but they were more shy to speak English. They also were not so interested in other guess that didn't speak Portuguese, this was disappointed. the dancing team were nice, cheerful. The cabin steward was nice, he was very friendly. The style of the cruise wasn't my cup of tea, I thought it was ugly. the Gym was full all the time! I didn't like the many language announcement, I thought it was a bit irritated. I am not sure if is true but I don't think costa leave you if you are not on time. they keep your passport, I didn't dare to try but if this is the case then it will be bad! Read Less

Just back after an amazing 16 nights on this beautiful ship. From the minute I walked onto the ship until it was time to leave, I was blown away with the whole experience. The layout of the ship with all the different bars and lounges is different to any other ship I have cruised on. First time in a balcony cabin, so nothing to compare with. I had a huge double bed and a 2 seater settee as well as a nice size balcony with chairs and table. Nice size bathroom and good shower space. If you don't like to walk far from the lifts this cabin is ideal as it is directly opposite the lifts and stairwells.  Overall very impressed with the room. I thought the shows in the theatre were of a high standard, and were appreciated by the multi national audiences. The entertainment team for me were the best I have ever seen, and I had the most fun ever on a cruise. If I had to find a fault, it was the dining room. I love my food, but to sit through a 4 course meal and still be hungry is not very good. The main course portions were to small, like a slice of meat,1 potato and maybe 6 slices of carrot After 6 nights I went up to the buffet for dinner every night. The all day buffet had the best selection of any cruise line I have sailed on. Read Less

We decided to use the opportunity of the low cost of cruising in 2009 by booking 4 different cruises on 4 different cruise lines in the Mediterranea in November and December. It took a lot of research, but finally we booked consecutive cruises on the Costa Victoria, the MSC Splendida, the Azamara Quest and the NCL Gem. Even though at first sight these ships seem to fall into different categories, the daily price for a balcony cabin was very similar,so direct comparisons between the ships were realistic. The cruise on the Splendida was the second one and we boarded the ship in Genoa coming from Venice by train . The embarkation process was very smooth. There were still 6 attendants waiting for passengers to check-in at 16h00 and the paper work was completed in less than 10 minutes. We went to our cabin and our luggage was delivered within 15 minutes . First impressions of the ship:it is HUGE and BEAUTIFUL !The public rooms are decorated with taste, with variations in style and color but the variation is harmonious and everything blends well in the total scheme. It is a new ship and it feels like it. Our cabin was spacious, nicely decorated and quite comfortable . We visited different types of cabins, inside and balconies and we found them to be bigger in size than what we saw on the other 3 ships. One negative point ,our cabin was at the back,on the 11Th floor and it was noisy when at sea ! We could feel vibrations while cruising and this seemed to generate small rattles. Our friends had a cabin in the middle of the ship on the 10Th floor and we did not feel the same discomfort ! There was a big Plasma screen and the choice of channels was good. The fitness and recreation areas were very well equipped, with professional supporting staff and a beautiful and inviting spa area. Entertainment was very good. The Strand Theatre where the major shows take place is very big and with a nice lay out;the sound is particularly good.I was quite impressed by the comics whose role was to warm up the audience before the presentations . There was music at 5 other locations that I counted and different sounds to satisfy everyone. We did not attend the disco but we got some good feedback from friends ! There are 2 buffet areas,2 main restaurants and 5 specialized restaurants to select from. The Bora Bora, where most people had breakfast, is very big, very well laid out and even with more than 3200 passengers on board,we never saw any long line ups nor did we had problems finding seating ! The choice of food in the morning and lunch was good, it was warm and except for desserts the quality was comparable to what we had experienced on HAL and Princess ! We had lunch at La Reggia and dinner at Villa Verde and were quite pleased with the quality of the food . There is a nice variation at dinner: each evening there is a regional menu from one specific area of Italy,it is like a mini gastronomical journey and it is quite educative ! The use of herbs though is very sparse and this is very surprising for Italian cuisine ! One major irritant:tap water is not served at the tables,if one wants water the choice is either to buy a bottle or bring his own ! Expresso or Capuccino is served only at breakfast ! The choice of wine is good and there is a wine and water package available ! Cheese is served cold even if it is asked for at the beginning of the meal and the choice of desserts is limited !Room service for breakfast proved to be late and the coffee was not hot ! The service is a bit different from what we have seen on all other cruise lines : the staff is not always smiling,it does not feel as friendly but it feels very serious and very professional ; this is not a fun line like Costa but a more efficient line .This is probably why we saw more Germans and British than on Costa and less Italian and French passengers ! North Americans were a minority but we saw more than on Costa. The selection of ports of call was very interesting with Marseille, Barcelona, Tunis, Malta,Messina and Rome but we felt that we did not spend enough time in Tunis and Messina ! We visited all these ports on our own and by doing so we felt that MSC did not supply us with any information on the ports ! When we asked for info. or maps about the place to visit, the excursion staff did not have any knowledge nor documentation ! The disembarkation and embarkation process at ports of call was variable ; it ranged from poor in Barcelona and Tunis to excellent in Valletta and Marseille. There were no daily news provided to the passengers other than on T.V. or in newspapers sold for $5. There were no enrichment program ,limited dancing lessons and less pool activities than what we could find on Costa. There were a lot of the "new type of activities" in the area called the Virtual World, such as a F1 simulator,a virtual Theater,WII,Digital Games,Pin Balls but every time we went in this area,it was crowded with teens and young adults . Overall, we had a great cruise,on a beautiful ship, with very interesting fellow passengers but with a cruise line that still has work to do remove some of the irritants that it is itself creating. For the price it is a good value ! I will use again MSC if the destinations are interesting and if the price is good ! Read Less
