Poor Service. This was my first cruise, and I expected the greatest time of my life on this new ship, the Vista, from reviews online and from my sister (a frequent cruiser on other Carnival ships). I was told that I would be treated very special, akin to a queen, with free food and waiters/butlers EVERYWHERE and at all times. However, neither happened. I had to PAY for everything I wanted, on a supposedly an all-inclusive cruise, spending approx. $1K on the ship for food and a few drinks for my husband and me. My entire group on this cruise (my husband, and two sisters with their husbands) each paid for "Faster to the Fun" (FTTF) perks, and we all found that package was a waste of money, except for when we had to stand in line at Guest Services. I spent most of the trip searching for food, only to find out that the eating places were only open at certain times with small windows (12-2) and everything closed for late night (except for a pizza shop that had thousands of people in the line also searching for a late night snack), including the “specialty restaurants” serving sub-par food during the 2 hours they were open for lunch and then serving better food at a premium price when it re-opened at 5 pm. The main buffet on the Lido was closed most of the time, with long lines and a lack of food variety being served, especially at breakfast. Omelettes served at breakfast with either a bad mix of or unmixed eggs (see photos) in one of only 2 LONG lines serving over 4000 guests. Lunch lines were long where only sandwiches were being served, while the rest of the buffet areas were closed. To top it off, room service only offered a continental breakfast. Furthermore, I had to fetch whatever I needed (i.e., water, condiments, etc.), after being pointed in the direction BY the waiters as where to find whatever I was asking for (when they were even around – typically, we had to walk to find one). We also lounged several times on decks where we had to either find a waiter to order our drinks or go stand in a line to get them ourselves (which was the norm on this cruise), including on the Lido deck and at parties. When we lounged on the 5th floor deck, I NEVER saw a waiter... ever… on any occasion when we were there. Further, I waited forever on hold for Guest Services, using my "dedicated" extension to call them (so long that the call was disconnected each time). Few outlets in rooms, tho the rooms were nice. Lastly, for debarkation, I also had to wait for someone to meet me and my party, as per FTTF instructions provided, for debarkation at the end of the cruise -- a no-show! No one came to escort us off the ship. We eventually left the designated "meeting" location and joined a "general" line outside in another area to debark. I complained to the female cruise director about the debarkation issues when I saw her, while I stood in the long "general" line with others (folks who had not subscribed to FTTF) to exit the ship. She pulled us out of that “general” line and placed us in another shorter line (thanks for that!). My sisters, who both cruise often on other ships, including Carnival, also tried to assure me that this was not the norm for Carnival (they were also disappointed with the service). Needless to say [again], I was extremely disappointed, as my experience did not match the countless reviews that depicted a wonderful life on a cruise. I expressed my dismay to Carnival, but received no response, much less an apology. I will never take a Carnival cruise again, based on my experience on board the Vista. Read Less

Wasn't sure what to expect as a first timer but definitely enjoyed ourselves and kept busy throughout. Entertainment was outstanding and food, well, there was plenty of it. Excursions that we participated in was good for the most part. I wouldn't say that some of the descriptions was very truthful but enjoyed most of it. Windjammer had a variety of foods and service was great. Ate at three of the ships dining facilities and they were all great as well as the service. The room was quaint and our room steward kept the room nice and clean. Wasn't expecting service three times a day. Only negative was the bed was a bit droopy but other than that, i'd like to try a room with a balcony the next time. Cruise Director and Activities Director were great and all over the place as well as information on the ship's TV daily to keep passing the information to the guests. There were many things we didn't participate in and if we were younger, we may have accomplished more but what we did participate in was very enjoyable. Read Less

This was our first cruise, so we relied on reviews and friends' experiences to prepare us. The ship was very nice, and our deluxe balcony cabin was clean and comfortable. The staff was for the most part friendly and accommodating. The entertainment was excellent. We were, however, very disappointed with the quality of the food in the dining room--average, at best. Next time we will try the "specialty restaurants." We were also very unpleasantly surprised at the cigarette and cigar smoke on what was supposed to be a nonsmoking ship, with a few designated smoking areas. Obviously, the ship did not enforce any restrictions. The entire sixth floor, where the casino was located, was very smoky. In the evenings, guests smoked at the bar in the centrum, and the smoke drifted up to the upper floors. One entire side of the pool area was smoke-filled. In addition, it was very difficult to find a lounge chair at the pool area. Guests would leave towels on their chairs to save them for extended periods of time--another policy not enforced since cruise material stated that chairs could not be left unattended for 30 minutes or more. The music at the pool was at times much too loud. We went on two cruise-sponsored shore excursions. The 3-1/2 hour beach excursion was a waste of time. We basically paid big bucks for an uncomfortable bus ride to a small crowded beach. The other excursion was a short panoramic tour. The tour guide was knowledgeable and funny--a much better experience than the first tour. Read Less

My wife and I were talked into the 7-Day Western Caribbean Norwegian cruise on the Getaway by another couple. We were skeptical of cruises for no rational reason, but we decided to give it a try because our friends were so pumped about it. WOW, this cruise changed our opinions forever, and we're hooked on cruises now. I can't speak for the other lines, but Norwegian was incredible. The entire staff with whom we interacted was so genuinely nice and accommodating. The ship itself is beautiful and had the feel of a floating city because it is so big. The food was out of this world (and the choices were seemingly endless), the entertainment was high-class (Burn the Floor and the Cirque show were mesmerizing), and the excursions were super fun! The cruise director, Silas, was engaging and seemed intent on everyone having fun. He was everywhere, and he greeted guests as we returned from each excursion. The ship kept a perfect schedule, and everything went smoothly logistically. One caveat is we stayed in "the Haven" which is their section of top-of-the-line suites, so our experience is biased. Not that the other level cabins were bad by any stretch (our friends were in a mini suite, and they loved it), but the Haven suites are simply awesome, so we decided we can't ever do a "normal" cabin :-) We had a concierge and 24/7 butler, both of whom were essential to our planning and overall fun experience. We've been back for 2 days, but my wife and I can't go an hour without lamenting it's over. It was the best vacation ever, and we're already looking to book the next cruise. Read Less

We were originally scheduled on the Eastern route, but due to Hurricane Irma it was shuffled to the Western route. This was fine with us as it was our first cruise ever and hadn't been to these ports either. Everything was top notch. Our cabin exceeded our expectations for what we were expecting since most people describe ship cabins as small. There would be a 3rd person option in our cabin and I think that would have pushed it just past the level of comfort that we felt. The size of the bathroom was awesome and that is generally the improvement you get when going from a balcony room to the "mini-suite". Drinks were great, food was great (but we're pretty easily pleased and by no means "foodies"). On board entertainment was great. If you have the opportunity to see the comedian juggler--that was our favorite! Staff was friendly and attentive. No complaints at all! We were so impressed that we have already booked our next cruise on Norwegian! Read Less

This was my 1st cruise ever. I received a voucher for an inside cabin from the casino where I am a rewards member. A friend recommended NCL so I decided to accept the offer. I paid additional to upgrade to a balcony cabin. I also purchased a soda package and three shore excursions through the cruise line. To begin with, the embarkation in NOLA was a complete mess. No one to assist you with questions, extremely long lines and wait time. Our check-in was between 12 & 12:30 PM. We finally got checked in and were able to board around 3:30 PM. Due to the extremely long wait to embark, I was unable to eat lunch. After boarding the ship I began to have a diabetic low. I went straight to the 24 hour O'Shea's to get something to eat but was told they would not serve me because the muster drill was about to start. I could not get any of the NCL staff to assist me in providing either juice, soda with sugar, or something with sugar or high carbs (such as candy or crackers) because the muster drill was starting. I asked at least 15 staff members to assist me and was told instead that I had to attend the muster drill. Finally, when I was shaking so bad that I had to sit down in the floor, one crew member realized what was happening and brought me a glass of orange juice to drink. Due to a medical condition I requested additional pillows and egg crate foam mattress cover for bed in cabin from special services in February after booking. Was assured that my request would be fulfilled. When we arrived at our cabin, there were no extra pillows or foam mattress cover. Went to Guest Services 3 times and asked for my request to be fulfilled. Nothing! We finally met our Cabin Steward and he was able to fulfill our request for the extra pillows, but we never received the foam mattress covers. I asked to speak with then Guest Services Manager to discuss the service issues and was told by the Guest Services desk rep that the manager was on the way to my cabin. The Manager never showed up to speak with me throughout the entire cruise. Service from the wait staff was terrible. Spent a lot of time either waiting on our food to be served, or trying to get a soda refill. Staff was more interested in selling you additional stuff than in providing you with what you had already purchased. In fact, service was so poor for the entire cruise that I requested that my prepaid gratuities be refunded. Dining was not a pleasant experience. Food was bland and unseasoned, either over cooked or under-cooked, and choices were limited. Bread was completely inedible. Had the consistency and taste of hard tack. Service was terrible. There were some tasteful deserts. Ship elevators were slow for the entire cruise. Ended up taking the stairs 90% of the time while on the cruise. Shore excursions were good and well worth the money spent. Enjoyed shopping in each of the scheduled ports. Entertainment in the Stardust Theater was also good. We enjoyed a variety of different shows. Over all, for a vacation that I planned and looked forward to for so long, the cruise left much to be desired. I will be cruising again, but definitely not on NCL. Nor will I recommend NCL to my friends and family. Read Less

Royal Caribbean provides exceptional customer service on such an awesome cruise. We did the Western Caribbean and the port of call were wonderful. The staff "Resha" of the Ports Shops staff was very attentive and helpful helping us make the most of the port call. The dining experience is a "10". They have "Premium" dining! with exceptional food and food service. Hot food IS hot and cool food is cool, I marveled at the process and service, WOW! You feel special and pampered! There are Sooooo many activities on the ship, you can go from sun up to early morning. There "IS" something for everyone, everyday!!! I would highly recommend Cruises to anyone AND everyone, especially as an alternative to going to just one location for a trip/vacation. All the shows and events are Las Vegas, New York quality shows. The night club rocks ALL night!! At the port of call there are several excursions, I'd recommend reviewing all the excursions, to best capitalize on your time in ports, then book the excursion on the ship, prior to the next port call. Royal Caribbean's "Liberty of the Sea" ship is pristine as a ship and has so much to do. Do take pictures at all the picture stops at the ship and consider purchasing the picture package, it's well worth the pictures and memories. In the end, you won't want to leave, so like my son's did, they booked 2 weeks, which we will consider the next time!! We've booked another cruise for next year! hope to see you on a cruise! The cabins were as expected for a cruise ship. If you take advantage of the activities you won't spend much time there anyway. Getting on and off ship was excellent and quick. Food was amazing! You could use the buffet or dinner venue. There were many things to do on the ship if you wanted or just to relax. There were activities for kids to senior citizens. The outdoor pool was kind of small but there was a second indoor pool for just adults. Everyone was very polite and friendly. Caution though...if you plan on buying things on your vacation plan ahead for carrying those things off the ship. LOL Every time the room was cleaned we had a different animal made out of towels to welcome us every day. Met a very nice guy named Mark from Florida but didn't get his information to stay in touch. Anyone knows him let me know. ) : Overall the cruise was fun and relaxing. RC might want to think about a web site to stay in touch with other people who take cruises. Read Less

This was our first cruise ever. Before booking, we asked around. Carnival did not get a good review from our friends and others we knew. Royal Caribbean embarking and disembarking was efficient and flowed smoothly. The ship was always clean everywhere when you got up in the morning. Our stateroom was well organized and cleaned to perfection every day. The food in the main dining is incredibly good and the presentation is that of a fine restaurant. In their buffet on deck 11, the Windjammer, everything was fresh and the choices numerous. This particular crew's service was exceptional and did not lack on any count. When and if we would cruise again, Royal Caribbean would be are only choice based on their level of service, the crew's friendliness and helpfulness, their cuisine, their wait staff, and their entertainment crew. The ship has a marvelous layout and it was easy finding your way around as they put layout maps everywhere. Read Less

This was my first cruise and I was pleasantly surprised. Embarkation was simple and there were plenty of staff to guide us in the right direction. It was me and my mom and we are both very afraid of water. Once we were on the boat, however, it was easy to forget we were not on land. The staff was very friendly and always making sure we were enjoying ourselves. The rooms were small but had everything you could ever need and had plenty of storage. The shows were entertaining but I wish they had more shows available during the daytime/afternoon on the "at sea" days. My favorite shows were the comedians and the "love and marriage" show was hilarious. The boat was a bit rocky the last two days of the cruise and I did have to take Dramamine one day but was surprised I did not need it more since I tend to get motion sick easily. The food in the dining room was very good and the service was excellent. I was not a huge fan of the food at the buffet (Windjammer) but I am not typically a fan of buffet style food to begin with. There was a snack bar that was open 24/7 that provided pizza, fruit, small sandwiches, and desserts. This was my favorite area and I enjoyed trying the different options they provided each day. My mom is gluten intolerant and there was a gluten free section at the buffet and gluten free options at the dinning room. The ship had several lounging areas where you could sunbathe or look out over the water and/or pool areas. These areas were a bit overwhelming since people would save their lounge chairs with bags and towels. Very few people were actually lounging around but it was almost impossible to find seats due to the "saving seats" problem (even though signs said you could not do that, no one was enforcing it). That was probably my least favorite part. There was a rock climbing wall that was a lot of fun and a surfing simulator that was fun to watch (I did not participate). The ports were interesting and a lot of fun. The Bahamas was a bit overwhelming with the locals yelling at you to take a taxi or buy their products. Way too much "salesman pressure". I could not just look and enjoy like some other places I have been too. Because of this, I ended up avoiding those areas and not buying much. The tour was ok in the Bahamas. We did a city tour that advertised itself as visiting a rum cake factory, the queens staircase, the governors house, a rum distillery and ending with a fish fry on the beach. The rum cake factory was a store with free samples (delicious but crowded), the queens staircase was the best part with lots of history told to us by a local, the distillery was interesting but a bit chaotic (normally a self guided tour with a sample of pina colada by the door, we actually got a tour guide for ours), and the fish fry on the beach was actually the name of a bar/restaurant that was near a beach and if we wanted food we had to order it off the menu and pay extra. The tour guide on the bus was great but the tour itself was misleading. The excursion we did in Cozumel was amazing. The tour guide was excellent and spent over an hour giving us a tour of the ruins on the island. We then went to a chocolate factory and saw a demonstration on making Mayan chocolate. This tour was the best part of the trip. We also did an excursion in Miami on a Hop-on-Hop-off Big Bus tour. We did not get off the bus but we had plenty of time to do two different routes through the city and got very lucky with another excellent tour guide. The transfer to the airport was not very well done. The bus was late getting to the airport and I believe many with earlier departures missed their flights. They dropped everyone off in a back area and left us all to fend for ourselves. Luckily, I fly 4-6 times a year and know my way around an airport so we did not miss our flight, but we were close. If you do a post-cruise excursion I would recommend taking a later flight (4pm or later, with the boat getting to shore before 8am). Overall, I enjoyed the cruise and I would definitely recommend Royal Caribbean to others. While I will not be going on a cruise every six months like some of the people we met, I would definitely consider doing one again in the future. Read Less

I'd like to recognize certain staff members on Freedom by name.  INygomi, our stateroom attendant was friendly and very accommodating to my mother's needs for like, 14 pillows (I swear he worked 24/7 he was ALWAYS there!). The servers in Issac's dining room Alan, and Archana, who were so friendly and attentive and happy, not to mention hard workers. I'd also like to make sure to recognize the wonderful and perfect service we got at Chops from servers Michelene and Luz these two ladies were professional, and genuine. You just can't starve on this ship, they feed you until you explode, and then ask why you're not eating more. I'd also love to mention your entertainment staff member "Marky Mark" for his energy that was endless, his true aura of happiness and excitement, and his excellent beat box skillzz.  The bartenders at Olive or Twist were amazing and knew my order before I even sat down (Guinness girl here.) The deluxe beverage package was def required for me. We took a shore excursion to the Tulum ruins and 5th avenue with GABRIEL in Cozumel (through Royal Caribbean.)  I need to make sure I talk about how wonderful and passionate this man is for his job.  He was so genuinely interested in the ruins, and made sure everything went smoothly.  He was literally running at certain points to make sure everything ran on time and we were not inconvenienced in any way.  This man is a gem! I can't say enough positive things about him! We felt so lucky to have met him. In Costa Maya we went on a private beach day to Maya Chan.... GO THERE! YOU WON'T REGRET IT! Most beautiful experience ever. The few bad things were: 1. Out dated décor... it was like 1991 threw up all over the state rooms. It was clean, but very old... the hunter green is just horrid. We were in a junior suite. 2. We were on time for our turtle excursion in Georgetown. (booked through royal Caribbean). We were tendered there... they took so long getting us on the tender to the island that by the time we got off the boat and walked DIRECTLY to the designated meeting tent, we were told our excursion had already left. We were refunded, but that left the whole day for us with nothing fun to do on the island. We just took the tender back to the ship instead. 3. Windjammer was so crowded at times with no other options, It was as if I needed some anxiety medication just to walk in there. 4. The machines to re-fill your soda cup were just so far away from your stateroom (literally no matter what state room you are in). I know they do this on purpose but it's annoying and I mean the machine doesn't dispense anything unless you have the special cup, so I feel like with knowing there won't be any waste, why would they do this? 5. Why do the bars close at like 2:30 am? We are on a cruise ship! They should be open all night long.... we aren't on land, we pay a lot for this vacation... if I want to drink and dance at 4 am then I feel like I should be able to at one bar that is NOT the casino. 6. The push to buy products in the spa was pretty harsh. I don't need 150$ in massage oil thanks. The push to buy literally everything as an extra was intense. But you learn to ignore it after 2 days. First cruise, went with friends. From time I arrived on ship all staff was helpful, waiting on us hand and foot, genuinely wishing to make my stay the best. Took in the entertainment, karaoke, pool activities. Much fun to be had. Went on excursions that I thought wouldn't take much time and on second thought, should have gone on more interesting ones. I figure I will be back anyway and will be able to choose another excursion. I didn't travel with children and didn't see any problems with families that were. The ship is big enough and there were enough pool areas that covered all ages and situations. Only problem was disembarkation at the end of the cruise. All people that were scheduled to leave from certain area apparently wanted to leave at same time. Staff moved us to the other end of the ship to disembark, which we did and finally moved. Just could have planned that better. Would definitely go again. I should have booked my next cruise before I left. Read Less

Wife wanted to go on her first cruise. So we decided to split the vacation. Sort cruise out of Miami then some time down in the Keys. Cruise started out bad with long 4 hour delay with everyone stuck in the port waiting building. Not allowed on the ship but in this terminal building which was way overcrowded, not enough chairs. People sitting on the floor, only 4 vending machines with one of them not working and the others soon empty. No communication as to what the hold up was or when we would be able to board. Ship was suppose to leave port at 4:30 but we managed to pull out of port at 10:30, well there went on sunset at sea. Now for the food. We ate three dinners in the dinning room and one at the buffet. Did not matter the food was just plain bad. Never once was it hot and at some points downright room temp. We usually ate the appetizer, salad and picked a bit at the poorly made main course. Also if we had a baked potato had to ask several time to receive butter or sour cream which of course potato was not warm enough to even melt. Also days of class must be gone on Carnival. On so called "Elegant dress night" we put on the decent slacks and jacket and the wife a nice dress. Guess most of the guests did not get the memo. Since most were in shorts tanks and less. But since half of your dinner the staff is singing happy birthday or happy anniversary at the top of the off key lungs, what does it matter anyway. We tried the buffet one night and it was if anything even worse, and you had folks who looked like they had not missed many meals but seemed to be of the mindset that this one was there last. The activity's we really not good. They had trivia in a lounge which seemed like it may be fun, until I went and seen that the host could not speak English well enough for anyone to understand the questions. The "house band" I actually took a photo of just so I could show my buddies what the worlds worst cover band looks like. The room was fine. One of the closet doors was falling off but when we told staff the third time someone came in a fixed it. Ship itself is ok but a bit tired around the edges. Noticed some of the hot tubs closed down and looked like they had been for some time. The good. Staff were great, did what they could with what the ship has. The comedy show was really very good (be warned it is adult and somewhat crude) but very funny. If we ever cruise again it will not be with carnival Read Less

My mom and I took the Allure of the Seas as our very first cruise and were awe-struck by its size! The service was impeccable and the staff were all just amazing and friendly. I read another review on here and can't help but agree that the nickel and diming is a bit aggregious. For the cost of what is essentially a 4 or 5-star hotel on water, I would expect more things on the ship to be included in the price. You constantly had to check to confirm what what was and was not included. Also, while it is great that the cruise offers drink packages, there was a huge difference in the ulitimate package and the basic sodas package. There needed to be one in between for just wine and beer or something similar. A cost of $58 per day per person for drinks included came out to $1K for 2 people for 7 days with tax. Even at $13 for the highest price cocktail, you still had to drink 4.5 to break even each day. I felt like I ended up spending a lot more money than I should have because of being on the ship. I was also a bit frustrated with the amount of "travel" and exceptions I encountered. The Ft. Lauderdale airport or perhaps just American Airlines there won't let you check a bag more than 4 hours before your planned departure. Having departed the ship at 11:00 AM, I had to sit in baggage claim for 2.5 hours before I could go through security. There was nothing to eat or do and I had no choice but to wait. You would think due to the number of people who are coming off of cruise ships that they would at least allow you to check your bag then go through security and wait at a restaurant. Overall, we had an amazing time full of memories and were happy we went but I am not so sure that another cruise is in my future--I may just need to go back to all-inclusive resorts where I can find a spot and stay there. We chose this cruise because we had holiday'd in California and then across to Orlando, Florida for our action packed theme park holiday and our travel agent suggested this cruise to end our adventures. Since we had travelled so far to get there (from Australia) and we might never have the chance to see the Caribbean again I jumped at the opportunity. Boy am I glad I did. This cruise was the highlight of our amazing trip. We caught the Royal Shuttle from the airport to Port Canaveral and whilst it was very pricey it was great service smooth sailing. The check in process at the port was quick and easy. By time we boarded our room was ready and our luggage was delivered to us with a few hours. The ship departed port a few hours later than usual as a few days prior Hurricane Matthew had gone through Florida and they were allowing time for a few rescheduled flights to make it for boarding. We were all made aware of this change a day or two prior and it was no problem. Everything was open, including the pools, bars and entertainment. The atmosphere was exciting! This was our first cruising experience and Freedom of the Seas was perfect. It was a large ship yet there is always so much happening you never feel like it is too crowded or you can't do something. I was worried about the shows but there are 2 shows a night and we never had an issue getting in. We loved our panoramic window view room- 1208. A great compromise for wanting a view but being a little scared of the balcony with kids. Our room attendant Amelia was incredible. So friendly, nothing was ever an issue and she was so good with our kids. The kids loved coming in every night to a different towel animal. Coming back to a clean room just made my holiday as being a mum its not often somebody else does the cleaning for you. The dining options were amazing. So much food and the variety was endless. We only ate 2 nights in the dining room ( our first night and formal night). The staff were lovely but we are very much buffet eaters in the fact we like to fill our plate with a variety of different foods lol. We really enjoyed Windjammer. The kids club was another highlight! We have two children, aged 5 & 8. They usually hate kids club and they were in different age groups so I was worried about that. The staff at the kids club told me we could put them together but they had to at least try their own age groups first. They did… and they loved it. To the point they would winge if we were taking them out of the kids club to go on a shore excursion. Entertainment was so great. A highlight for us was Alfred and Seymore. So funny! the best act by far. A review of our Port experiences- Labadee, Haiti- A lovely island to chill and relax on. The zipline was well worth the money. Incredible once in a lifetime experience. We booked the first zipline of the day . The kids stayed on the ship kids club whilst they took our group off the boat first and escorted us to the zipline meeting location. Once the activity was over we went back to the ship got the kids and spent the rest of the day on the beach. We paid for the inflatable water playground for the kids on the beach. Our 8 year old loved it but even some of them were a bit hard for him to climb. It wasn't suitable for our 5 year old and they quickly refunded our money with no trouble at all. Lunch was included and bought out on the beach. Our drinks packages worked on the island too so that was great. If I could find one negative about Haiti it would be that most of the locals didn't seem all that happy about us being there. They weren't overly friendly but perhaps thats just their manner. We didn't venture into the markets as we weren't there to shop and they were extremely pushy just from the outside. Falmouth, Jamaica- We booked the Dunns River Falls excursion through the ship and again it was amazing! Such an experience. We felt very safe and our tour guide was great and super informative. We also went to the grotto caves. It was ok but probably wouldn't worry about it again. Grand Cayman- This looked like a beautiful location, i think we perhaps just booked the wrong shore excursion. We chickened out of the stingrays that people rave about. We chose a dolphin and turtle experience through the ship. It was no where near the ocean. They were late picking us up which gave us literally 15 mins to experience the turtle farm. They were rude and quick to hurry us up and then leave us standing around waiting for 30 mins at a time. They couldn't find us a tour guide so too bad for us. Then we went across the road to the dolphins. Same people ran this. The dolphins were lovely but were in a very small enclosure. We had a nice time with the dolphin and had some photos taken but be prepared with your wallet for those photo's $40 per print! And super disorganised. Everyone buying photos almost missed their busses as it took close to an hr to print a photo. I wouldn't advise this excursion in Grand Cayman. Do the stingrays! We don't complain much although we decided too when we got back on board. Royal Caribbean were extremely apologetic, had received other complaints abut that excursion and refunded a portion of it back, no questions asked. Cozumel, Mexico- My favourite! I loved this port! We went on the Atlantis submarine that was a pretty cool experience, just one quick tip- sit on the right hand side as there is not too much to see on the left. The rest of the day we just did some shopping in port and layed at peppe's peir ( i think it was called). Cheap drinks, delicious nachos and you could swim in the beautiful ocean right there in the port! We were going to go to Paradise Beach but as our excursion left from the port at lunch time we decided to stay in the port and so happy we did. We had the best time ever on this cruise. Everything was so well organised. Everything just flowed. We loved it so much we booked another to the South Pacific before we got off. Read Less

My husband and I had cabin 12201 Carnival dream, spa balcony cabin. It was our first cruise.Cabin was beautiful .Spa was great ohhh thalosopool how i miss you, and the relaxation room. Everything was wonderful. Scarlett dining room staff are the tops!!(Iputoo and Bido)not to mention how much fun shoooowtime is!! Very professional and made you feel special.I loved our 815pm assigned dining made you feel very formal and dressy! Very friendly and gracious. The food was delicious, shrimp cocktails, salmon cakes, ceasar salads, prime rib and the lobster tails were great!! We had so many romantic quiet evenings. I didn't think we would like the dive in theater but it was a great way to relax watching Batman snuggled in a blanket. The serinity area was great for sunning and having a pina colada. Show in the encore theater was fancy and enjoyable!! The dream was magnificent!!! I cannot wait to go again!!!! 5 stars and the towel animals were lovely.(husband also misses pizza pirate!!!!!) Excursions : Deluxe beach catamaran and snorkel in Cozumel cannot be missed!!! This crew is very professional and fun!!!! I read so many reviews about bad snorkeling groups, i was worried. Fury Catamaran was the best!!! Organized ride to snorkel spot that was beautiful, coral, schools of fish, good equipment it was fantastic, then the ride to the beach was fun, music, drinks, soda , family friendly, even though we had no kids with us,No one had any troubles, and there was plenty of space to snorkel. It was our first time snorkeling and we did great . I will also add in i have arthritis and there catamaran has stairs that go down into the sea so it was easier to get in and out of the water.Jesus group was great!! Beach was lovely, sea was beautiful i would do this again defintely!! Read Less

This was the first cruise for our family of four including two teenagers and we had a wonderful time! Embarkation was easy. After a crowded lunch in the Windjammer buffet, our cabins were ready at 1:15. They were roomier than expected (ocean view with balcony) and very clean. The ship was large and offered lots of activities that appealed to our teenagers and to us. We played about 4 different types of trivia, went to meditation class, and almost all of the shows. The shows exceeded our expectations - the Broadway-style shows were excellent, a magician's show was flashy and fun and the ice skating show was amazing. We also found a number of quiet spots on the ship to relax - the Olive and Twist bar during the day was quiet with great views, walking on deck 4 was quiet and shady. My husband enjoyed the Bull and Bear pub for beer selection and the kids loved getting all the pizza and ice cream they wanted. We did not try any specialty dining as we liked the quality and choice offered by the included dining. The staff was universally very friendly and helpful and the ship is constantly being cleaned. Our shore excursion snorkeling in Costa Maya was great, but the water was rougher than we anticipated. We all loved zip lining in Roatan and highly recommend it. We skipped formal excursions otherwise, but we had a great day on the beach at the Westin in Grand Cayman and at Mr. Sancho's in Cozumel. Those beach days were a highlight for us. As for negatives - we did not like the constant push to buy stuff like watches, special meals etc. Tendering on and off Grand Cayman was time consuming and frustrating. On cruising days, there are never enough chairs by the pool. We chose "My Time" dining and would not do that again. We thought we could flexibly make reservations each day but the reservation times quickly filled up and we were stuck with an undesirable table at the entrance of the dining room at 5:45 each day. I would pick a fixed dining time in the main room and stick with it. However, eating breakfast and lunch in the main dining room was a treat and we would do more of it next time. Overall, as first time cruisers, the trip vastly exceeded expectations and we would recommend this ship, the staff and the itinerary! Read Less

I'm a 52 yo male and this was my first ever cruise. We chose Carnival because we live near NOLA and we thought that a 5 night cruise to Cozumel and Progresso would be a good starter. My wife has been on two previous cruises and we traveled with our 2.5 yo son. Our two daughters, 16 and 23 shared a separate cabin down the hall. The cruise was really for them and the son was along for the ride. The Triumph Everyone knows this ship is a little old and the colors and decor is a little dated. But the bars, deck lounging and seating was plentiful. The pools were crowded. The nightclubs, restaurants, and lounges all had wonderful classy atmospheres and ambiance. The elevators were all functional and timely even though the LED floor/up/down indicators weren't always accurate and were hard to read. You don't see many public restrooms nor trashcans. The corridors get over crowded during photograph viewing and yes Carnival does take plenty of pictures for you to purchase. The Food and Drink We purchased the Cheers drink plan. Bars are plentiful and bartenders are all great mixers. We enjoyed dinner each night at 6PM in the Paris Dining Hall. Here is where Carnival excelled. The food was always served hot and its presentation was wonderful. Our 6PM dine time conflicted with the start of many entertainment shows but that was our choice. Entertainment I do not believe you can enjoy all of the entertainment offered. It is constant, round the clock. Plenty of singing, dancing, comedy, magic, is available all over the ship so plan ahead and squeeze in dining when you can. We don't gamble but the casino is large and offered everything. For the Kids Our son enjoyed about 3 hours of Club Ocean. It appeared safe and engaging for them. I'm sure he had a good time the one day he went but he pitched a fit when we tried to bring him back we think only because he was having a better time running around with us. Our 16yo daughter enjoyed the teenage niteclub nightly. She made some friends there and spent a lot of time with them. The Crew Well you want find any Americans working on this cruise ship. These men and women are the most dedicated, hard working people I have ever had the pleasure of watching work. Its unfortunate of their employment conditions that they labor under. I've read some of the horror stories online since we got back on shore. TIP THESE FOLKS, TIP THEM! The Stops Ok first, God bless America. We left the comfort of our home and ship and stepped into Cozumel and Progresso, a third world country wrought with blight and poverty. So be warned. Summary Overall a extraordinary experience that I would enjoy again and again albeit in more civilized destinations. Our cruise made for a fantastic summertime family vacation whose price was a little more expensive than a week in a condo on a Florida beach but cheaper than a week in Disneyworld. Not only would I cruise again, I would choose Carnival and highly recommend the experience for any first timers considering going whether it be a family vacation or a romantic getaway. Well done Carnival, well done. Read Less

This was our first trip and if we didn't have friends with us that had gone on numerous cruises that advised us this was their worst trip and the others were much better. We probably wouldn't ever cruise again. Pros: The staff for the most part were very friendly. We enjoyed dining in the dining room and choices. Enjoyed the shows. Cons: The shower overflowed into the bathroom and the hallway of the cabin. Got bites around my ankles at night in bed as did my daughter (hopefully not bed bugs). The top comforter Very out dated ship with many flaws. I had heard about the fact we could eat at any time of day or night. This was not the case. Most buffets shut down early and had the same old food (hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken tenders.) There was a small pizza place open that had one person working it and he couldnt keep up. Had to wait 20 to 30 mins for 2 pcs of pizza. It was a $20.00 sur charge for lobster and some other higher end steaks.(my friends said this was a first for them that usually its included. Bars didn't have enough bar tenders therefore it took a while to get a drink. Had conflicting stories from the ship personell about what could and could not be placed on my drink pass. Lastly, we were supposed to be going to Cayman and Cozumel but due to a medical emergency we had to return to the Cayman island. Therefore we spent two days there which is too much . The prices are awful on the island. While we understood why we didnt go to Cozumel we felt taht we were owed something but all we rec'd was 9.95 back. One drink in Cayman is that much . Will NEVER cruise on the paradise ever again. May never cruise Carnival again Read Less

This was my first cruise. There were 14 in our group sailing together, with 3 of us sharing one stateroom. Definitely get a ocean balcony room. It made the room feel larger. We were on the 7th deck and we didn't feel much of the boat moving. You could feel it on the promonade deck though and in the theaters. The ship was clean and didn't feel too crowded despite having about 6,000 people on board. Entertainment was great. Solarium section was great, much more quiet than the other pools which got crowded very early. Lots of rude passengers though so be ready. Had a big issue with the ultimate beverage package which was supposed to include Starbucks, but it didn't. Had to spend 2 days and several hours arguing with a service manager to fix it. Very annoying so read the fine print on everything before you buy. Food: Food was very good. We mostly dined in the main dining room for dinner and Windjammer for breakfast and lunch. We dined at Giovanni's, which was excellent. Izumi was very good as well. Both were worth the extra money. Didn't go to Chops but ordered the Fillet twice from the main dining room and it was wonderful. Entertainment: 70's night was the best. The game shows were fun as well. Ports and excursions: Snorkeling with the turtles in Cozumel was crowded but we did see turtles. Jamaica was overrated and very poor. I was surprised at Labadee and how much I actually liked it, except for the harassing shops. We did the Safari Snorkel excursion and it was a lot of fun. The beaches were crowded. Disembarking: Amazing how fast and efficient the ship was at getting everyone off at port. Got off the ship, got my bag, and through customs in about 45 minutes. Packing: I packed way too much. I only used about half of what I brought but definitely bring an extra back or extra room if you plan to shop. Read Less

We went on the cruise to try to get our love back but I ended up getting food poisioning from the blacken mahi mahi and was confined to my room until Tuesday I finally get a chance to go out with my wife and walk into the hall and smell the worst odor that I shouldn't have smelled. The room ac was never up to par especially after the heavy black smoke came from the smoke stack n the captain saying theirs no reason to be alarmed. the service for room service was horriable I got raw uncooked bacon on my BLT and they ran out of things that we ordered. I really was looking forward to this cruise and was very disappointed. I'm sorry for anyone that experienced the same as I did and I will not recommend the carnival dream as a cruise to take on my next journey of my endevours Read Less

The Cruise was awesome. As a first cruiser we were 8 ladies and we enjoyed every bit of it. The restaurants/ the staff awesome. I do not have anything negative about our experience. The entertainment was fantastic. The food was delicious. The stateroom cleaners were so dedicated to their works. We had a Mr. Roy who was awesome. The activities for the kids were fun. The docking cities were nice even though Costa Maya the weather was not so friendly but overall we enjoyed. The dining on the 11th floor especially the buffet was awesome. All the staff on the 11th floor made our stay comfortable. The Spa was great. The steam and sauna rooms were very clean. Cannot say enough of the cruise. The casino area is equally clean compared to many places. The customer service desk very patient and pleasant. To top it all the Entertainment director Jimmy and his assistant Trish made us enjoy more. Thanks so much. We will come again. Read Less

When you are planning and booking the cruise - you need to realize -- EVERYTHING is extra. The prices were not what we expected at all. My 17 year old said this cruise is " for those who drink or gamble" Spent most the time in the room because the basketball court was always closed. THe excursions were fun and made the it somewhat worth while but the boat itself is not and also the ship tracer for my family back home to watch where we are currently froze up tonight so they can no longer watch and the web cam at the front and rear of the boat ---photos on the ship have not changed so please don't advertise this if it isn't working. Double charged my debit card one night also for arcade and web charges. The room is amazingly nice thank you because we spent most the time in there Read Less

Hi I traveled with my teenager daughter , we wanted to experience some of the Caribbean, our cabin was on deck 10 , perfect for us , just below the pool , and a few floors away from the main restaurants , it wasn't noisy , food was great and service excellent in the restaurant that we ate in ! Galileo , I didn't really like windjammer as it had plastic plates and always felt a bit catiotic ! , the entertainment at night was good , we enjoyed the ice show and the mixture of musicals , we went on shore everytime we docked , my daughter did the zip line in Haiti and loved it , although we missed the lunch here to busy enjoying ourselves and had to head back to the ship early as we missed lunch and then no access to food , just drink , ! Jamaica we booked are own trip on the port it was half the price , but we then realised that everyone else was on local time except clients from our ship ! Which caused confusion with ship time and local time , a stressor! Grand Cayman , again ship time v local time plus tug to get to ship ! This was a major major stressor ! Not enough time , planner said 1600 which was really 15.00, but to be on the dock in a que like cattle at 14.15 ! Not much time and lots of people were very anxious over fear of missing tug boat ! Did not have a nice holiday feel ! Anxiety levels were through the roof ! Mexico booked cruise trip as fed up with anxiety levels ! And fear of missing ship ! Fear of mixing up times ! And time zones ! Needing a watch all the time ! Trip was good snorkelling and then sitting on a beach with crap expensive food , but fun wibbet stuff , snorkelling was ok we saw a few fish , ! Back on ship , my daughter took a sip of a cocktail and then the on the pool deck then the jobs wort boys arrived and acted worse than the police ! Stopped drink package ! We forgot we were ment to be on a nice holiday ! Such treatment was in poor taste ! A warning would have been acceptable American guests said it was because we were European so easy pray for security team ! Meanwhile American kids very much under the influence late at night on the main entertainment area ! And no jobs worth boys about ! To stop them , this treatment left me feeling sad ! I know she did wrong but it was a sip ! Not going out getting drunk , a normal small taste like you would to try something ! This also happened to another family from Ireland but they were wise enough to say he didn't swallow the drink ! ( another European family ! ) Read Less

This was my first cruise and it was a "so-so" experience. I'll start with the GOOD: Embarkation process was easy. I got to the port a couple of hours before the posted "Embarkation Time" and it was easy to get the bags checked and get onto the boat. There was a line but it moved well. Layout of the ship was confusing me and when I asked an employee about it, she went out of her way to physically walk me to my room which was very helpful. This is considered a small ship and a short cruise but I found there were things to do. They always had seminars going about different things (I even won a "raffle" at one of them and got a nice pearl bracelet) but the seminars are more of a "sales pitch" than a real effort to teach or inform you about something....they're trying to sell you products and services. We were lucky and had good weather for the entire trip so I was able to spend a lot of time outside by the pool or on the decks or in the adults-only deck (that was a lifesaver to get away from rowdy children). They had song/dance shows almost every night and they were as good as some productions I've seen in Las Vegas. I also enjoyed the performers in the Comedy Club and they had different "routines" at each show, including routines for non-adults. The cruise director was funny and entertaining when he spoke and did things. I had several treatments done at the spa and they were awesome...expensive but awesome. *Tip: wait and go to the spa later in the trip. The prices seemed to be highest mid-trip...by the last day they were running much cheaper "specials". Also, beware that the technicians will try to sell you everything they use on you (lotions, scrubs, etc.). Still, they all seemed to know what they were doing and the treatments were top knotch. The casino was well-stocked with machines and games. I booked tour excursions through Carnival at Grand Cayman and Cozymel and enjoyed both. They stopped at major points of interest and let us get out at each and take pictures and walk around a bit on our own. I felt they were a good value---got to see a lot for what I paid. The passengers on board were a good mix of people of different ages, ethnicities and everybody was friendly. Going in the summer, there were probably more kids on this cruise than there would be when kids are in school. Now the CONS: the ship is old and it shows. Very dingy and outdated looking. Carpets were stained, walls had chips and marks, many things (public toilets, elevators, washers/dryers) were broken and not working. The pool area is very small and unimpressive. My cabin was absolutely disgusting. I had an Ocenview but you could barely see out of the window because it was so scuffed. The bed was lumpy and one night, I returned to the cabin and found yellow "stains" on the comforter that looked like urine stains. I called Guest Services to ask for the bedding to be changed. It took 2 hours and 3 phone calls to get that done. I also found a dried blood stain on one of the hand towels, there was strange, sticky "gook" on the desk that was right in your face as you slept, and it looked like there was mold on the ceiling. When I got home, I noticed small bumps developing on my feet and am really hoping I wasn't biten by bed bugs. The shower completely floods the bathroom every time you use it. It literally filled the whole room with 2-3 inches of water and I had to wait about a half hour each time for it to drain. The cabin was so gross that I literally stayed out of it as much as possible. Other areas were dirty, too. I was given a beach towel by the pool that also looked like it had dried blood stains on it, dishes in the buffet were dirty, the beach chairs were all very dirty and grimy, seats in the comedy club had big tears in them. I only ate in the buffet restaurant and the food was awful. Even though they have heat lamps, the food is cold. They do have a good selection but it was very low quality food...examples, I ate fried shrimp one night and it was so "mushy" inside I couldn't even tell it was a shrimp, had a piece of roast beef that was so undercooked and tough I couldn't even eat it, and bbq ribs that were nothing but fat. Service was ok-some staff on board were nice, others were rude. It was very difficult to get questions answered by most of them. They just would blow me off when I would ask about things. They do "nickel and dime" you a lot on the cruise, as well. I felt like everything was "extra". The shopping on board was very limited with just a couple shops and not much selection and everything was very overpriced. Sales clerks (particularly in the jewelry shop) were very pushy. All that said, I did have fun moments and I would do another cruise....but I will definitely book on a "newer" ship and might try a different cruise line. Read Less
