This was our third cruise on Equinox--our fifth with Celebrity. Embarkation was fast and painless and in a new change, our room keys were waiting in the slot outside our rooms. The just took our picture at check in. We were allowed to board at about 1045 and staterooms were available by 1 pm. The ship was freshly out of drydock sporting a dazzling new paint job, new carpets and many interior changes. We were in Aqua Class and our stateroom had been completely renovated with all new carpeting and soft products including some comfortable throw pillows on the sofa. Best of all was Equinox was under the command of Captain Kate McCue, the only American female to serve as Master on a large cruise ship. She is personable, approachable and could easily be confused as a model. The also travels with her pet cat on the bridge and in her stateroom. Food in the Blu Dining Room seems to have declined with rather odd good choices in the evening. I believe five nights they served gnocci in some form or other and one night there was nothing on the menu that appealed so I went to the "every night" backup of a New York Strip steak. It was overcooked and mostly gristle. One night we ate in the Tuscan Dining room and that menu was extensive and nicely prepared. Our cabin was 1587--this is the third time we have had the same cabin as it is the street address for my family. In the past our room attendants were highly visible, responsive and kept the cabin neat and clean. This time our room generally did not receive its initial cleaning until between 3 and 4 pm which effectively blocked an afternoon nap after a morning in the sun. There was no turn-down service--just the pillows plumped up and a chocolate placed on top while the bathroom received a facelift with clean towels. We were not very pleased but did not want to create an issue while aboard so we tried to ignore the short comings. We actually did not even meet our room attendant until day three! We like to spend quiet days at sea by the pool with a good book and there were two of those. Costa Maya as a port is a waste of time. Key West and Cozumel were very nice and in Key West, since we were docked at the Naval Base, had transportation to take us from the ship into town and back. Grand Cayman was a lot of fin as we signed up for the tour of Sting Ray City. It took about 30 minutes on a catamaran to get out to the spot which was a comfortable chest deep with soft white sand beneath. The rays were very curious and used to being handled so we had a god time feeding them and just holding them. A photographer aboard took many shots which were available for purchase at only slightly outrageous prices. Avoid the temptation to purchase food unless paying $29.00 for a hot dog does not bother you. There was a new excursion offered-a "backstairs" tour of the ship. It was a tad steep at $99.00 but we went and thoroughly enjoyed it. We were given special passes and lanyards and were shown the galleys, engine control room, recycling center, food storage areas, one of six crew bars and a peek into a crew dining room. We walked along "I-95" as the crew corridor that runs the entire length of the ship is called. I never realized there were six decks located below the water line. We ended our tour with the Navigation Bridge. A nice young officer explained the operation of the ship to us and we were allowed to photograph anything we wanted--just no videos. Disembarkation was a snap--we were off the ship promptly at 8 am and our bags awaited us and there was no customs clearance, just a quick facial recognition shot. Read Less

We traveled with a group from RFamily vacations. We chose this trip because of our great experience on Celebrity Solstice to Alaska, and wanted to see the newest design in ships. We really enjoyed the ship. The veranda idea worked great for us. We enjoy A/C, so I think we opened the window 3 times the whole week. WIthout the shear and blackout curtains, it felt open, airy and big. The pleated shade was perfect for privacy and blocking light, and the power controls on the thermostat and balcony were convenient. Yes, the martini bar isn't what it is on the Solstice class, but we found Eden a great replacement. We give Celebrity credit for doing something new with the ship instead of just serving up the same. We ate at all the specialty restaurants and enjoyed them all, even the Rooftop Grill. Yes, it's a bit expensive, but we had a great meal and the outdoor dining room worked well for us (weather was great and wind speed under sail wasn't bad at all). Two things I'd express to Celebrity: I would make the Martini bar more oval in shape to serve more people surrounding it....and make the seating all one height, instead of the multilevel that's on the Edge. Second: The Cabana's.....we had a half cabana on a sea day. I tried, but the whole cabana's were all booked before the ship sailed. WARNING: the half cabana isn't worth it. We were a party of TWO and felt very confined....there isn't enough room for two adults to lounge. Then, the party on the other half of the cabana arrived....oh, boy. What I wouldn't have paid to get the whole cabana. Our neighbors were a mom and dad, young daughter and an INFANT in a stroller....ugh. Nothing like listening to parents and TWO sets of grandparents crammed into a small space, correcting and comforting children. Hey, I get it, people have children, and yes, it was Easter week, but If I was Celebrity, I'd put an age and party size limit on the half cabana's. We did have a great view of the young daughter practicing here dance class stretches on the ships wood balcony railing......and we did get a front row seat for the grandparents performance.....ugh. This was my first Royal Caribbean cruise with Carnival being the regular cruise line I go on every year. When I first got on the ship, they had a huge welcome cake in the Windjammer with two guys who were playing different songs getting you to wash your hands (really catchy and they could sing really well)! I was impressed by the amount of food they had although some of it was bland wish it had more flavor or was more sweeter ( red velvet cake). The activities they had on board were amazing and really fun to participate in. I went to the Living Room which is a teen club for teens ages 12-17 and it was way better than the Carnival teen club Club 02, with more people in it and a lot of activities. Although they didn't let you in if you were wet and you couldn't eat in there. The woman who cleaned my room always put my pajamas on my bed folded and was really nice when talking to her although I wasn't in the room often, I do wish I had a TV guide for when I was up late night and nothing was open. The ports we went to ( Labadee, Haiti & Falmouth, Jamaica) were beautiful and nice with music playing in Haiti and a shopping center in Jamaica. The excursion I did in Haiti was the Dragon roller coaster was very fun but scary at times going down fast on the turns. This is a very great family cruise for all ages including babies (my one year old went with my family and I). This is also great if you are wanting to do so much and learn so much from the activities. I definitely want to go on another Royal Caribbean cruise soon. Read Less

We went on our first cruise to celebrate my 50th Birthday and wow, we were super impressed by Celebrity and were told by many cruise addicts, once aboard, that we had selected by far and away the best line and a great ship. Our concierge class cabin 1210, was excellent, with very comfortable bed and plenty of storage space for clothes, cases and other items. The balcony was excellent, with very comfortable loungers with foot stools. The ship itself (Reflection) is in excellent condition, very well maintained to high standards, it is clean, bright and safe. The crew, were all excellent, friendly, attentive and professional, our cabin steward, was amazing and took care of everything we wished for. Entertainment was very good, albeit 'toned' down somewhat, in particular the comedians, for a family audience. We were impressed with the overall ambience of the ship, with pretty much everyone onboard, being super friendly, polite and considerate of everybody around them. No louts, loudmouths or intimidating groups - which we were very pleased about. We went on a number of excursions, including Snorkel and Kayak, Mount Gay rum tour (I am a big fan and it was great), beach tours and plenty more. All was well organised, safe and stress free. All in all, this was a fantastic first cruise experience, which I can highly recommend to anyone who is not so sure it is for them. Read Less

The best thing on the edge was the four free dining rooms instead of one large one. And the food and service were outstanding. The single rooms were disappointing because they had no storage at all, whereas the regular cabins had a ton of storage. The bathrooms were great. The magic carpet was not magical. Just a nice deck. The infinity balcony was more like a larger room with a great horizontal open window, and no deck. Ship had a Beautiful design with lots of smaller spaces but not as cutting edge as the hype. Just very nice design. The upcharge for the specialty restaurants was $60. Too much. The crew service was great but they were not knowledgeable about the ports. They said I have never been there so I don’t know. Odd answer. The design was great but not sure it was high tech. Would have liked to leave messages for other cabins but could not. (The app did not work on my cruise. ) The internet worked great but very expensive. Much faster than other ships. The ship was beautiful and luxurious but not up to the hype. The entertainment was very good but the performance in the eden room was very creepy. Even though the room was very well designed. Read Less

We decided to splurge and get a suite on the Celebrity Edge. The room was smaller than we expected. It was very high tech, but operating some of the controls (lights, curtains) was challenging at times. We like to enjoy beverages in our room so having a bucket of ice at all times is a priority for us. On day 1, we gave a $10 tip to our cabin steward and asked him to keep the room stocked with ice throughout the cruise. To our surprise, the suite came with a butler and we also gave him a $10 tip in order to have the room stocked with ice. The ice was not forthcoming on days 2 and 3, so we had to track down the cabin attendant and the butler and beg for ice. On day 4, when once again the room had no fresh ice, we got fed up and complained to Passenger Services. Immediately, ice was brought to our suite. At that point, we thought the situation had been rectified for good. We were wrong. On day 5, once again, there was no ice in our room. So, it was back to Passenger Services to register another complaint. From that point onward, we did have fresh ice at all times. We have never been on a cruise where we've had to beg for such a basic service as ice in the room. Overall, the service in our fancy suite was a disgrace. The food in the ship's many restaurants was very good, but not great. On the other hand, service in the restaurants was outstanding. We were particularly impressed with one restaurant hostess who remembered our suite number after just one visit to the restaurant. We have been on over 20 cruises and, we have to say, the entertainment venue called The Club, which is on deck 4, is the worst entertainment venue that we have ever seen on any ship. It looks like it was slapped together without any thought about viewer comfort. it was next to impossible to watch the shows from the second floor. The view was obstructed with poles and assorted audiovisual equipment. We walked out of one show because neither one of us could see even a glimpse of the entertainer. The Retreat is a very nice venue for suite guests. Nobody bothered to tell us that all drinks were complementary until the very last day of the cruise. Celebrity could certainly have done a better job of communicating the advantages of booking a suite with those of us who shelled out the extra money for a suite. While the Edge had many innovative designs, going from point A to point B was often challenging. As an example, it is difficult to go from the front of the ship to the back of the ship on the deck used for disembarkation. Speaking of which, embarkation was a breeze, while disembarkation was a fairly lengthy process. On paper, the Magic Carpet may have seemed like a good idea. However, in practice, it was fairly useless and did not move throughout the week. One final thought, the color scheme of the ship's interior consisted of shades of gray. 1) I chose this cruise as it was an Atlantis charter for gays & lesbians 2) Celebrity has had better food on other cruise I have taken with them. There were a few entrees that were not at their best on this cruise. I liked the 4 smaller dining rooms on this ship - there is no large grand dining room. My complaint on the traditional large dining rooms is that I always got my wine after the entree, in the smaller dining rooms on this ship I was served immediately (we dined at 6:30 pm when the dining room was opened). The strange thing about service is that the water is poured out of the pitcher from the side, not through the spout, which caused water to go onto the floor! Be sure the server is not near any valuables that need to be kept dry, like your camera! 3) The shops, to name some, are very upmarket - Bulgari, Tiffany & more. We were invited to look at a man's watch priced at $12,000 as an example. Clothing in the shop was also very expensive. I stay away from the "art" gallery auctions on cruise ships as I don't think they are the best place to buy art. 4) I enjoyed the crew show in Eden. I recommend going with the flow & enjoy it. It is a very strange experience but don't leave too soon & you might really enjoy it. 5) The theater is quite an experience with the room almost completely wired with lights. I particularly enjoyed the live band. This is not the usual stage veteran cruisers are used to. 6) I visited the spa for a massage in the hope of relieving back pain. The massage was quite vigorous (the masseur asked as to how much pressure I wanted). It was a full body massage. Unfortunately there was some hard sell after the massage to get me to buy products to take home - a big turn-off for me. 7) I did not take a shore excursion as I have been to the ports previously. To cruise on new ship is like driving a new car: Everything is new, shiny and works. There were very few issues on board that I encountered. Embarkation was fast and easy and we were on board in under 10 minutes. I had a concierge class stateroom on deck 11 mid ship. Very spacious, although with limited closet space. We had to store suitcases under the bed. Our steward was very attentive and took good care of the morning and evening service to room. I like the towel animal art sometimes, but I didn't get that from this steward on Edge. Restaurants are above average - the four standard dining rooms each have a different flair - French, Greek, Italian, and Contemporary - and nightly specialty menus for the receptive dining room. I enjoyed the Normandie and Tuscany rooms the best. I did the Le Petit Chef dinner and it was ok. I though the portions were small, but the animation was fun. The Raw on 5 sushi restaurant was good, but I'm not sure it was worth the $50 per person premium surcharge. The only thing that i didn't like was an occasional long wait for elevators on the ship. While the Edge is a great ship, I thought the hype prior to the cruise about how amazing the ship is, was a bit overdone. It's a cruise ship. Its target audience is probably not families, but more sophisticated couples. Not a lot of the extra fun stuff like on some Royal Caribbean ships. Read Less

First off the food wasn't good period. Our first cruise with Royal Caribbean was much better. This cruise screwed up my girlfriend's dessert after making her order a special gluten free meal for her allergy. The final day we both got food poisoning from eggs Benedict and ruined the last day of our trip. We were sick in our room the rest of the day. They had the Grease show which was pretty good but the staff were very unorganized with keeping the guests waiting in an organized manner, making some wait at the top of the stairs while others lined up at the doors below in a separate line making people frustrated. The last part of the show had to stop due to technical difficulties so we left. The highlight of our trip was our Izumi sushi class and the Savannah Jack concert. There could have been more shows going on also as there was not much to choose from. Read Less

This was our 27th cruise, 1st-time Celebrity Cruise. We couldn't have been happier. My husband and I are 52 years old, we have no kids. I love to have options when we travel. On a cruise there is always the option to do nothing, however, there is not always the option to do everything (except for now!). The Celebrity Edge, aside from the fact that it's absolutely modern and gorgeous, it was so much fun! We were worried about the fun. We had the preconceived notion that this was a company for retirees, people who like it "quiet". This ship had more fun going on than do I dare say it...The Fun ships??!! It did. But there are plenty of quiet spaces as well. Newest movies every night are played at the Rooftop Garden around 10-10:30pm. Multiple Trivia thru-out every single day. Loads of entertainments everywhere, from live singers & bands to the shows in the evening. But my absolute favorite...Silent Disco. Fun for all ages, it's hysterical to watch and a blast to participate in. There is so much going on, it was actually hard to fit it all in. The food was excellent. The 4 main dining rooms were beautiful, try to eat each one if you can, the menus vary slightly per dining room. Le Petite Chef was fun, and delicious, and did I mention fun?? Service was above and beyond, and I'm picky. We had an oceanview room at 200sq ft. and it was very comfortable. 50-55" interactive flat panel TVs on the wall. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. Bottom line we loved it and we booked 2 more future cruises while on board. Hopefully, you'll love it too. Read Less

Everything was incredible!! They make you feel like family and you never want to leave the ship! The food was world class and the service on the ship was otherworldly, the drinks on board were incredible and allowed you to venture into a whole other culture and a whole other world of excitement! It is a wonderful mix of people and every passenger on board was so fun and excited and so sweet to everyone else. The stage shows that they put on our like a broadway musical and the performers can sing with the best of them! They have a full range of things for you to do whether it’s hanging by the 5 pools and jacuzzi’s they have, learning about the many secrets of pirate treasure, world class shopping with incredible deals, or anything else you can think of, there is never ever a dull moment. Everything was so smooth especially with their new medallion you use for everything!! It is the best thing out there!! 100% recommend!!! Read Less

they clean your room everyday, Varieties of food, Dining experience is really awesome. service is great, Ice cream bar was great, international cafe, Karaoke bar, fitness room, Art auction, love the idea of formal night and going to a fine dining after having pictures from the photographers and you will your pictures that same day...you can watch live shows everyday with their funny Cruise director & his staff, lots of entertainment and things to do, love all this fun games with the staff especially with the cruise director Matt, foods is great, enough restaurants to choose, great service, smooth sailing and they are organized, i will plan a next cruise this year again and i will convince some of my relatives and friends to join me and my wife for the next cruise before end of 2019, and hoping they will come out a promotion to back up my plan Read Less

I was really excited to get back and give Costa Deliziosa a proper review. I am not sure which cruise most folks that have had issues with this cruise sailed on though my experience was completely opposite. So yes I have been on about 10 cruises in The U S and one out of Rome. Also I used to work on a ship (Everyone a large vessel is not a boat. It is a ship) years ago. Pre registration was super easy and the port personnel shared that I was one of the first people he encountered that actually read and filled out all of the needed paperwork before reaching the port. Our ship didn’t leave port until 11 p.m. I showed up around 12:30 p.m. Check In was about 5 minutes. I sat down and waited for my group # to be called. It was called about a 1/2hr after I checked in. On this cruise (Keep in mind this may change) your actual stateroom key is not given to you at check in. It is on your bed in an envelope. I did a quick check of my room, said hello to my stateroom host and went exploring the ship. A tip. Walk around the ship if you arrive early and take pictures of the different decks, spaces and areas. Just about everyone else is at the buffet so you will get some amazing unobstructed pictures. After the pictures I went to the buffet. I was pretty surprised due to the bad reviews. The food was good. There is something for everyone. Obviously yes there was pasta though lots of proteins, salads, cheeses, breads, soups, etc. There is free pizza and hamburgers and fries for lunch each day at the buffet. Yes there is an additional charge if you wanted to partake in a special experience of them at night though it is a larger portion and presented in a meal function vs. self serve. My bags were delivered to my room about 2 hours after I boarded. I did receive a drink package with my room though choose to upgrade it to the highest tier. Honestly there was no need for me to do that because the drink I had for the 10 days was included in my initial package. Oh well Update as of February 2019 (This may have changed by time you are reading this). The Samsara regular cabins only get access to the spa area stairs/elevator, spa rooms (Not included are massages and services). You do not get access to The Samsara Resturant anymore and need to make a reservation like everyone else and pay the extra charge. Samsara Suites do get all of the above privileges along with a drink package minus the massages and services. First thing to do is join Costa Club. It takes seconds and is free. Your new club number may not show up online on your reservation if you get the number after you book the reservation though it will be noted and recognized on board. There are quite a bit of perks along with 50% of the specialty restaurants on board along with discounts on certain drinks, shops and spa. A couple I met are loyal members and receive major discounts on their cruises along with upgrades. Shared it was for sure worth it. The buffet was so good I ate lunch and dinner there everyday except for dinner in the dining room on my first night. I did meet a cool cruise mate the first night and build a friendship for the next few days. I travel by myself and it was nice to have company for a few days. He was on a work trip and left after 4 days. Out of the numerous crew members I encountered only one was a bit grumpy. Came to find out he had a newborn at home and had months left on his current contract. This didn’t give him the excuse not to be “on” though it sort of made sense. He did lighten up a bit as the cruise came to a close. So I had an absolute great time on my first 10 day Costa Cruise. I made friends with a few of the crew members. If you do eat at the buffet do read the hours in the daily guide. For some odd reason the hours changed on the 8th night and create some unhappy moments. I shared with the staff that was simply silly and moved on. I opted to take my bags off the ship in Ft Lauderdale. Lined up about 15 minutes before the published times. Was about 15th or so in line. Cleared Customs in 5 minutes. There was a van directly outside the exit hall that took about a dozen of us to the airport. I am getting ready to head out on another cruise on a different line in a few weeks though will have Costa on my mind for some time. Read Less

Our inside stateroom was perfect for the two of us... many storage compartments and beds and pillows were super comfortable. Many activities for teens. Entertainment was either very good or disappointing but the parties and outdoor movies were great. Food was delicious in both dining rooms. Valentines was celebrated with a fantastic chocolate buffet. I truly appreciated how the staff encourages people to wash hands. Issues: the app isn’t reliable , announcements can’t be heard in the cabin, smoking areas are not located in great areas..... casino stinks of smoke and the smoking area on deck 11 is too close to the doors and towel station... several of the staff at the customers service desk were not fluent in English which led to mistakes and misunderstandings. Our stateroom assistant was outstanding.... he couldn’t do more for us. Read Less

The ensemble lounge and sky lounge gone 2.suite guests have most of the front of the ship (except the gym) a pool, a lounge, an outside lounge, a restaurant, a bar. A class system taken too far. 3. All of the speciality restaurants are in the middle of the ship with the cafe and cocktail bar so always crowded. Forget about getting a seat 4.Eden in the evening is just stupid. Do you want faux entertainers chasing you around when you just want a drink? No 5.magic carpet. Basically a bar hanging off the side of the ship. It doesn't move when your on it so why all the fuss? 6. Infinite balconies are closed if it is windy so you just get a window 7.elite members cocktail hour was now very poor as the lounge gone Overall an epic fail. We're not old but found it full of old people who were bemused at best. Probably too expensive for the market. The glamorous Instagram crowd are not on board and the glamorous grannies we spoke to said never again... Read Less

We are not up for a late night party crowd and not looking to have kids running around... so the critical comments about it being an older crowd are actually a plus for me. Over the years the bar service has been changing, especially so after the drink packages were introduced. Instead of an annoying army of folks always asking if you want a cocktail, now you usually have to get your own... and the attentiveness of the bar staff is not as good as it was historically. The entertainment is good enough but nothing special. The food is great with a HUGE selection of choices at the buffet. Cabins have been fine and comfortable. Balconies seem to be getting smaller on the new ships. In particular on the Regal I LOVE the area near the retreat pool with the sun screens on the edges which don't block but diffuse the full force of the sun. I really wish they did this on more of their ships. Being a gay couple I will also note that this has never been an issue on any our our cruises. Read Less

We were group of ten and these were the highlights - Eden restaurant, funky cool place to chill and have brekkie/lunch/dinner. - Shows, all production shows were super cool. Like what other ship has a shower on the stage? - Food, food was food everywhere. Even better than on Solstice. Only tried buffet twice and wished there were more days so I could had sampled it properly. - Hot spa, overlooking the lido deck and big enough to host a lot of people - Service, not angry chaps on this ship. - Ship design. - Launches, the most coolest tender boats I have been on. - Iphone app. - Fll cruise terminal, just stunning. Time to check in, less than 5 mins. - Gym and gym classes, cannot be more pleased with the selection. There are rooms for improvement, like restaurant reservations using the app when there are multiple staterooms and the speed of the tender operations. Overall, very excellent ship. We’ll be back! And sorry for the people who do not find Edge a nice ship. I’m sure there are more traditional cruise liners out there to please you. Read Less

Background information-Avid single traveler, 27 cruises with Celebrity I’ve sailed 5x on Century class, 11x on Milleniun class, 11x Solstice Class, 1X Edge Class, and about 5x with other cruise lines Pre-Embarkation-Well , Well, Well, they did they truly did reinvent the wheel with the new embarkation process. Two weeks before sailing I received a few reminders encouraging me to use the newly modified Celebrity Cruises App to check in. To be perfectly frank, I didn’t have high expectations for this as I tried it last year on Reflection and it really hadn’t been helpful. In fact it had been more frustrating than helpful. I downloaded a fresh copy on my Android phone, plugged in my data, uploaded a picture. After completion I printed out a copy of the completed Expedited Arrival form, and was set. Embarkation-It was the smoothest quickest embarkation ever. Terminal 25 is lovely architecturally. That being said it was more lovely is the fact that I didn’t spend much time in it at all. I arrived by Uber at the terminal ~1130, there were two other cars at the same time. Baggage guys were everywhere, so moved my bags all of 4 feet before there was a smiling face to take them away. I said thank you, tipped him, and walked the 50 feet to the terminal. I rode the escalator up to the main part of this sleek glass and steel/aluminum modern terminal. Gone are the long lines of work stations and laptops, and instead, smiling faces with I pads greeting you with the words “Welcome to Celebrity Edge” , as I heard that at least 4 times while in the terminal. Two folks scanned my expedited arrival form. I used the one on my phone once, and the printed one once, and it made no difference, and then was directed to the Xray scanners for security which moved quickly, and 5 minutes later, I was pointed to the boarding area. I was told I would find my key on my door, which I did. So from being dropped of curbside, to arrival at my cabin, was a period of about 10 minutes. The room key was waiting at my door, was able to drop my carry on items up there and then began to explore Celebrity Edge. Ship information- When I first started exploring Edge, I noticed many transformational changes, but also seeing my old mainstays. The main lobby is visually a masterpiece. It’s a very tasteful, bright, but not in an overload your senses casino way. It’s calming and welcoming, so figured I would take a look down by guest relations. I loved what they did with the main part of the lobby. Guest Relations, Shore Excursions, and the other stations down are kind of like islands/kiosks rather than traditional desks, which gives the area a much more open flow and floor space They also have some self help ipad stations than can answer questions, and roving concierges to help the flow. For example the first day I went to guest relations the first day, and noticed 4 people queued up, so asked the concierge my question, “Do I purchase a beverage package here?” He responded that I could go to any bar and have it added there. I think in 7 nights, I went to guest relations 3X, and never waited more than 10-15 minutes. Some areas I really thought to be exceptional, others more traditional. The 4 main dining rooms were traditional just on a smaller scale. Café El Baccio same thing. Some stunning changes to the Sunset bar. Its bigger with sweeping views, it feels much more open and grand than on other ships, has a small smoking area on the starboard side, but impressed with the design aspects that allows the smoking areas smells being somewhat isolated from the rest of the sunset. I admired to that they took the eco-friendly path too. Paper straws actually to me felt better than I expected them to, actually better than plastic ones. I appreciated that when they did activities that in the past they did with pen/paper/pencil, you can now participate just using your phone/tablet/ipad, and a HUGE plus to me was didn’t receive any Art Gallery flyers (or any other flyers) announcing their sales, promotions, etc. the entire cruise. I admire that they took these steps, and not just one of them. Like we used to say in the Navy, Walk the Walk, not just Talk the Talk. The only negative was a missed seeing the one page whos/who on the ship where it states who they key executive team members are (Captain/Staff Captain/Head Chef/ GRM), and never did find a cruise directors TV channel where they summarize the day ahead and introduce you to key events things.. I wish they would just have that information available on one of the television channels. Eden-FANTASTIC. First thing I noticed about Eden was as you walk in you go through a kind of dark maze of funky sculptures that I just didn’t get, It’s interesting, but just odd, looks like something from a James Cameron Sci Fi movie. As you approach you see multi-dimensional layout, and incorporating many, many, many nooks and crannies to hideaway as much or little as you like. I LOVED the colors and designs, plants and seating area on every level, both inside and outside. Also a great little cafe inside Eden where you can go for breakfast or lunch (no upcharge either), that’s generally uncrowded. The Edenites are a unique set of characters and you could see they threw some people off base a little. They stay in character, like you might find at disney, A renaissance fair, cirque de solei, so just go in with an open mind, as it’s a different type of performance. It’s not Edie Gorme on the love boat, but it’s a lot fun if you want it/allow it to be. Really thought the design and layout of the Rooftop Garden was exceptional. The area seems very expansive and very green. Super pleased to see the massive screen that they had for watching sports and or movies under the daylight/skylight. It’s a very well designed area, as you don’t get a lot of random traffic interfering with viewing. I was a bit under impressed by the offerings at the rooftop garden grill as it seemed to lack identity on its offering. I guess it’s supposed to be BBQ, but not really sure. Pool Area-Another grand slam design. It’s a new ship with new loungers, towels, and pools, and all are well thought through. The loungers are set up in a more tiered design which makes it feel a bit more private. In the 8 days on board I used the main pool area probably 4 days, and the retreat 3 days, and never found a time where I couldn’t find an open lounger. Pool seems massive and never seemed overly crowded or noisy even on sea days. I even tried the 3 story martini glass Jacuzzi, which gave beautiful high top views of the decks below One thing very important you notice about the Edge is design. Nothing seems like a last minute “lets squeeze in a ….”, everything is in a place where it makes sense it should be. The spaces generally seem well suited for their function both in size and flow. I found a lot less dead space on the ship (like Cellar Masters, Hot Glass, World Class Bar), and less emphasis of forcing your path through the shops, casino, art galleries. Now those are a little more discreetly placed rather than being in your face, and I really appreciated that. Activities-I didn’t see a whole lot of activities on this cruise other than “Deal or No Deal” and one or two game shows, Silent Disco, Silent Disco DJ, like activities. I did think it was cool that they had creative new things like drone races in “The Club” , so I’m sure as the Edge matures so will the activities. I was mostly there for R&R, so I probably of glossed over any of the activities they had scheduled. Bars-The Martini Bar itself has much less seating than on other ships, but there are a lot more adjacent areas for seating to compensate. Same holds true on the Pool Bar. Maybe 10 seats total, but another 12 stools about 10 feet away. Looked to me that the Sunset Bar is bigger and almost gives you about 120 degrees view of the aft end of the ship. I think The Club is the most traditional larger bar onboard behind the Sunset, and the biggest venue outside the theater for traditional seating Service-Service has is and always been Celebrity’s hallmark, and this cruise was no different, if anything service excellence was even more pronounced. This could be since they took the best of the best of Celebrity’s team to man the Edge. EVERY single Edge team member I met during the 8 days went out of there way t do anything possible to make my stay better, smoother, and happier. Port & shore excursions-Didn’t do any. I left the ship once in St Maarten when my earbuds broke Shopping-Onboard shopping was too rich for my taste, Tiffany, Cartier, Bulgari Etc, someone said one shop had Edge T shirts starting $50+ SPA-Nothing New, had a 75 minute massage on a port day and it was the special 50% off rate, so with mandatory gratuity, it was $248, was it a really good massage, no not really. Art Auctions-They are there and I’m sure they sell, but research before you buy, as always found them like the casino. Don’t consider it an investment; consider it fun money that you can afford to lose. There might be a rare winner but generally if you play/buy, it will be a losing financial decision. Cabin(s)-I had two cabins on this voyage. I book the ES (Edge Single w Infinite Veranda) , and stayed there two nights , and then heard about the availability to upgrade a SS1 so moved there Edge Single Infinite VerandaCabin(ES)- Cabin 6218 100% Excellent design. It’s a modified version of a normal Infinite balcony cabin. It’s as wide as a normal cabin just not as deep. I think the actual numbers are ES=131ft2 w 40 ft2 balcony, E1,2,3,4= 200ft2 w 40ft2. First thing you notice is the bathroom, such a HUGE improvement compared to ANY other Celebrity ship. Has kind of a marble looking tile and large farm type marble sink with plenty of storage under the sink. A discreet outlet/switch can be found by the shelving under the sink area. The shelving in the bathroom is plentiful. The shower is especially large by cruise ship standards, and is glass/polished chrome design, and even is tall enough for those over 6’ tall. Inside the shower you find dispensers for body cleaner, shampoo, and conditioner. Plenty of hot water and pressure and the shower design lets you adjust height and position of spray as needed. The bed, mattress, and bedding was the most comfortable and luxurious one I’ve ever slept on. The cabin although small was very comfortable, although storage is very limited. There is a 6’x2’x2’ closet with a higher and lower bar for hanging clothes, and two shelves under the safe(~16”x20”x8”), and three 8”x*’X8” cubbies and that’s really it for storage. I ended up using the shelving in the bathroom for shirts and pants, a foot rest that opens up at the top for socks and underwear, so you just need to be a bit creative. Two easy solutions Celebrity could do is put some shelving in bottom of closet in lieu of the second bar for hanging clothes,and/ or put storage bins under the beds, since under the beds you have about 18” height, so plenty of room for storage bins AND luggage The only other negatives about the ES are, I would consider a partially obstructed view as the lifeboats sit about 1 foot above the balcony area floor, so if you look straight out it’s fine, but if you look down at all, you see the tops of lifeboats below or to the left or right. I think they would be an attractive option if they priced them more realistically. Right now they sell at ~85% of a regular Infinite Vernada cabin which I think is high considering you are getting 70% of the floorspace/storage of a regular cabin, and getting a partially obstructed view of the sea Infinite Veranda-It’s a great design, as is the cabin itself. The view is outstanding, the whole end of your cabin is glass, adds light, view, space to your cabin. The drawbacks some, are occasionally the captain can exercise control over your balcony window, sometimes coming into port, or in cases of bad weather. This happened for a few hours on our 7 days voyage, with no impact on us whatsoever. I also liked the window shade that could make the room completely dark, when fully closed. I found you needed to balance the sun coming in with the AC as the AC was not up to cooling the additional space without some adjustment. Worked much better at night with the bifold doors closed, reducing the amount of space the AC needed to cool. Two three prong 115V, one 220V two prong outlet and two usb ports on desk area, there is also an additional outlet with a pair of USB ports by the night stand. One odd thing is the addition of many hard decorative pillows, which are completely unusable. When the bed is made there are four regular pillows, five hard decorative pillows, plus two more large and small on the sofa. They look nice but really take up a lot of space with not much purpose. However, I felt the Infinite Veranda was one of the best parts of the Edge Sky Suite-The Sky Suite (SS1) Cabin 9180 seemed much more balanced than similar ones on other ships. I’ve always thought the Sky Suites on the other classes looked like regular veranda rooms with dance floors as they just seem to have a lot of dead space rather than using it to enhance the room. With these sky suites, they take it to a new level. Storage is expansive. You have a ~6’x6’ closet for all your hanging needs, you also have a second closet that has shelving. Drawers, and a safe, it stands about 6’ tall and about 2’ wide and deep. If that’s not enough, you also have a dresser that’s attached to the desk area. This dresser I’m guessing is about 5’ wide by about 3’ tall, so really makes storage abundantly available, again a superb design compared to other designs. They have a nice discreet looking white box that has two three prong 115V, one 220V two prong outlet and two usb ports, there is also an additional outlet with a pair of USB ports by the night stand, and another outlet discreetly placed in the bathroom. Bed, TV and nightstands all pretty standard, but the new linens are nice. I liked the electronic keypad for temperature and room control (drapes, lighting, etc). You can also use the Celebrity Cruises app for this, but noticed maybe 10% of the time it wasn’t available. Wasn’t really able to get the electronic key to work, I ran into the digital manager the next to last night and she mentioned it was probably something to do with my email not being linked to the key, but it wasn’t worth the trip to guest relations to get it fixed, so just used the key card instead. I thought the redesign of the Sky Suite was exceptionally good. A major improvement is the tub/shower as it’s easily stepped into, rather than in other classes you literally had to climb into it. There is no shower curtain, but because the shower head is about 2 feet inside, one is not needed. The shower head height was adjustable, so even if you’re 6’ tall or greater it works fine. I read some people complaining about without a curtain they accumulated water outside the tub area. My personal opinion is it’s possible you could do that if you weren’t paying attention, but really don’t see how it would happen on any type of normal showering. Toilet is in a separate room in bath with a frosted door around it. Sink large with two faucets. There is plenty of shelving and storage in bathroom as well. I know they are trendy now, but bathroom mirrors also slide open to form a picture frame window above the bed allowing you to bring more light into the bathroom (or for people in main space to see the tub/shower area of bathroom. I’m not a big fan of that (window to the bath from the bed) as recently saw the same thing at both Mandarin Oriental in Miami, and Four Seasons in Buenos Aries , but I’m guessing it’s a popular feature right now. For me I’d rather just keep it closed and use the mirror. The only negative I could find is that because the tub/shower opens to the bath room, the mirror does fog up easy. I know on other classes they had heated mirrors to alleviate this, it would be a good idea down the road to modify these as well. It’s a minor tweak to an almost perfect design. It’s the finest cabin I’ve ever been in at sea in terms of smart design, functionality, pure opulence, and being well thought through from the moment you walk in and look at every feature and function. The couch, balcony were comfortable, and really enjoyed the rocking chair in the room as well. Dining-Tried a few different venues, so will touch on each • Cosmopolitan-Enjoyed it, reminded me of a mini me version of the MDR on any ship. Broiled scallops appetizer especially nice. Ate here 3X • Normandie-Enjoyed it, felt like a better design, and more open than Cosmopolitan. No real standouts, but no complaints either. Ate here 1X • Buffet-Really expansive and more epicurean themed than on other cruises. They really upped their game on this. The construction and efficiency of the design is noticeably better than other classes, and really like the hand washing sinks at the entrance. I just think the warm water and soap is a much better way than purel. It was never out of towels, soap etc. Food quality of the buffet was excellent as were the station setup. First ship ever where I have seen EXCELLENT food at a buffet including filet of beef cooked to order, rack of lamb. Etc. The breakfast seem better organized with the stations set up to streamline the order and deliveryprocess. Also the larger windows in the Oceaview make a big difference, You don’t feel like you’re in a typical buffet, instead you feel you are eating in a fine dining spot…..which you are. • Luminae-The new Luminae is superb. I like that it’s at the forward end of the ship, and its own lovely venue. The menu looked to be the same as any other Luminae, but it feels so more grand. Hats off to the designers as it feels far more spacious and open, and really like the details (linens silverware, etc) and the staff makes you feel like royalty on each visit. • Prime Cut Steakhouse-First the location of Prime Cuts is super special. It’s located on deck 5, One side of the steakhouse overlooks the Ocean, the other side overlooks the martini bar, grand foyer area The restaurant itself kind of reminded me of a blending of Tuscan Grille and Murano. The rich woods and leather of Tuscan, and a balanced menu of mostly steak, but also includes lamb, sea bass, lobster, etc.. The pan seared scallops with chorizo were spectacular as was my 9 0z filet. The sides (spinach w garlic, a five mushroom sauté, and a bacon infused mac n cheese were also excellent. The double brownie with ice cream was a great way to end the meal. Service was above par • Raw on Five-Raw on Five like Prime Cuts reminded me like mentioned above as a blending of two favorites. It was part sushi on 5, part silk harvest, menu itself was about 20% raw, and 80% cooked dishes. They had a page of sushi dishes for the sushi lover (I’m not a big sushi fan), but I listened to the waiter and tried the Green Leaf Tuna Roll which was awesome. I followed that with some beef carpaccio, and then thin slices of tenderloin served with some type of sauce that really enhanced an already spectacular dish. They also had some stir fry dishes in the menu. Generally I’m not a fan of places that try to a wide variety of palettes, but they really do it well at Raw on Five. • Le Grand Bistro-I thought this was one of the hidden gems of dining on Edge. Try it at least once for breakfast or lunch,. I think the surcharge was $20 for lunch, and less for breakfast, and the food was fantastic. The daily specials were out of this world delicious and included rack of lamb, seared sea bass, Coq Au Vin, Short Rib Bourguinon, etc. Food was fantastic all around, and it’s just a nice airy place for a snack or a fully meal. • Rooftop Grill-Le Petit Chef- I didn’t try either as loved Le Petit Chef twice on Reflection last year, and Rooftop Garden reminded me of Mast Grill, so I passed on both this time. • Eden Restaurant- It was great eating in Eden for breakfast or lunch, and no upcharge and never crowded, but alas dinner. How do I explain dinner, other than saying it was odd at worst, uncomfortable at best. There were 6 of us, and the menu seemed unique to put it nicely. The food was pretty good overall, but didn’t seem to carry any type of theme or reason to it. Just kind of a random amalgam of foodstuff. It was five courses, and all was ok (except what my friend call the asbestos biscuit, which really had an odd taste). The performance (or show) with the Edenites during dinner was uncomfortable though. I think part of the problem is you don’t have a perspective of what’s going on around you. I found watching the performance from different parts of the venue is really wonderful and enjoyable, but IMHO it doesn’t work while dining. I met a nice lady one day on the cruise who said she was dining alone in Eden, and just felt when the Edenites came by here, she felt like a display not a dining guest. I think like anything dining in Eden will evolve into a great experience, but right now it’s just awkward. That being said, try it for one of the performances. Children's clubs-The kids I saw onboard seem to be having fun, but no personal experience to relate to Entertainment-I was so happy to see that Celebrity was trying some new forms of entertainment. The Celebrity singers and dancers are still there, and went to one performance, and it was actually visually and artistically pleasing. First thing I noticed was the music. It wasn’t just music from the 30’s -50’s that had low royalty licensing fees. Instead it was a blend of old and new (Coldplay, Ed Sheeran), blended beautifully with music of the past. The show itself kept my interest, where during normal shows I leave after 15-20 minutes, so really happy they re-invented rather than repackaged. Especially liked the onboard talent, I think 4 performers and 2 DJ’s (2 singers with guitar, two bands, two DJ’s). The one band Impulse was fantastic , did flawless covers of Green Day and other bands in the Rock format and they did them well. Acoustics down around martini bar aren’t that great, much better in the club. Also loved that they were combining shows and bands, where one of the solo acts might join a band or the bands performers would join each other. The comedians and solo singing acts in the main theatre were forgettable, so I was so happy when the bands or DJ’s were performing Smart thing they did is made the theater a bit smaller on Edge. I think I was told it holds 900 people per seating now, and although I only went to one show, it wasn’t crowded for any performance they had. The Retreat-The suite only retreat lounge and outside area are a beautiful addition to the ship. All of these areas are located at the front of the ship, and are key card accessible. The lounge is nicely laid out, it reminds me of a business class lounge in an major Asian airport, with a couple of small glass refrigerators stocked with beer and soda. It also has a palette of hot and cold snacks all day, and generally two hosts are readily available to help with questions, reservations, guest relations issues, etc. I really liked that they also had copies of all the menus of the dining establishments onboard. There was two or more servers constantly roaming through to take drink orders as well. It was such a friendly cheery venue. Retreat Sundeck/PoolBar-I really found this area lovely. The very front area is more active with a small pool (suitable for cooling off, not really swimming), a hot tub that could sit 6-8 and loungers, pergolas, swings and chairs everywhere. Probably could easily seat 125+. Back a little towards the main pool is a quieter area that adjoins the main pool. And I found this area a bit quieter with less kids. It again is discreetly separated from main pool area with a key card access I think it sat about 100. Also a bar/food area that sat about 25, didn’t eat there but it looked good. There definitely was an overabundance of staffers in the Retreat Sundeck area to meet any needs or help you have. Disembarkation-Was simple and easy, I opted for the Luggage Valet program where if you are flying from SEA, FLL, or MIA for a $25 fee, you can do your airline checkin on Alaska, American, Delta, JetBlue, United or Southwest onboard, and have your bags picked up the last night of cruise, and transferred directly to the airline (you avoid claiming them at cruise terminal). This went off flawlessly as they arrived with my flight. Summary- When I first saw the drawings of Edge and followed its construction, I thought they went too neutral with the design. It seemed to be saturated with earth tones, and not much color. I was super pleasantly surprised to see it in person, as the colors and textures, really make it a standout in more ways than one. From the greens and browns of Eden to the grays with pops of crimson in the carpet in the hallways, all the spaces really have their own identity, but also have a cohesion to each other. Like all Celebrity ships, the art is everywhere which whether you like a particular piece or not, it still adds to the mood of the space. TRY IT TRY IT TRY IT. Make a decision for yourself. Yes it is something new, yes it may have a few nuances that need to be work out, but it is a spectacular ship. I love the new bells and whistles, and the outside the box thinking that created it. Happy that it’s not Love Boat 8.0 or a ship with an amusement park, it redefines elegance and fun at sea. I also admire that they have trust in their onboard team to modify and try new things, and change things that will be adjusted. You have the best of the best onboard this ship from a crew perspective, and each is anxious to make the experience beyond your imagination. On a scale of 1-100 I’d give it a 98. I had about 40 friends onboard ranging from 30ish to 80ish, inside cabins to suites, from US, Canada, Australia, UK, France and Germany and not one was disappointed with the experience, or felt it was a bad decision. I’m already booked for the November Transatlantic. I’m sure the 5% of the population will only be happy if they are miserable, another 15% finds happiness in any situation, and the rest of the lot are open to being WOW-ed. Celebrity Edge has the WOW factor, and it’s a well thought out adaptable ship and organization, that will only strengthen as it rolls into the waves near you. There will always be people that live to complain. I actually overheard a passenger at guest relations complaining that the towels were TOO SOFT for her taste. I hear the common complaint on message boards that Celebrity is trying to draw in Millennial’s, and a younger crowd. I would think of course they would since only 35-40% of their passenger base are returning Celebrity cruisers. My reaction to that is so what, do they do it at the expense of other passengers? , IMHO no they don’t. Being in single cabin or a suite, I was treated like an honored guest from the moment I entered terminal 25 till the moment I stepped off. Read Less

We’ve sailed before on Celebrity (Reflection twice and Equinox once), Royal Caribbean, Princess, and Holland America. This was our very favorite cruise ship. I don’t understand the so far not so great reviews. My only explanation is that people don´t like change. Some aspects of the cruise ship were clearly superior and I would find a hard time anyone faulting them: Embarkation and disembarkation: beautiful terminal, incredibly fast, no other ship has been remotely close Interior Design and Art: A clear step above anything we have sailed on Main dining rooms: Food quality equivalent to Aqua Class in previous Celebrity. 4 dining rooms to chose from with different specialities, very good service Ocean View Cafe; Views, decor, high quality food Lounge Chairs in both sunny and shaded areas: much easier to get good seats than on other trips (30% more than on equivalent size ships). Large main pool Thermal spa area: Luxurious, spacious feel, infrared sauna, steam room, hamnan, salt room, better than Reflection. Grand Plaza with Martini Bar: Grand meeting point, lively Eden Restaurant- great food, worth it. Le Petit Chef- great, fun experience Beautiful Magic Carpet Bar Excellent wifi. Things we like but other may not: Modern, sophisticated decor, lots of grays Infinity veranda. Larger room. Great if you don’t spend a lot of time in the balcony. Martini-shaped whirlpools. Large, different floor, great if your lounge chair was not in main pool deck Large swimming pool Evening entertainment- We enjoyed it, beutiful theatre. Except for Whitney Houston-inspired show, most songs in other shows were new to me. Eden lounge- expensive but great drinks. Missing relative to Reflection, Celebrity: Quiet.bars, with few people, such as wine bar (Eden partial exception at certain times). Edge was designed for maximum use of space, multiple use of rooms. Wonderful ship and crew... all the amenities without the amusement park. The ships staff and services was a bit overwhelmed the second week which was Christmas but they still tried very hard to accommodate 500 more people than the normal sailing. Entertainment was great and I highly recommend Kori Simon in the Piano bar and Barbi McCulloch and the ships entertainers in the show ENCORE! The Secret Silk show was ambitious as well. Dining was varied and always wonderful and the ships International Cafe and coffees were a great addition. If visiting Roatan I highly recommend going off the regular choices and seek out Daniel Johnson’s Monkey and Sloth Hangout. It was an amazing tour and the highlight of my trip. Check them out on TripAdvisor and reserve your spot ahead of time. Alexander, the ships cruise director was a pro and his staff kept everything running like clockwork. The casino was a bit hit and miss but that’s why they call it gambling. Overall another great Princess cruise. Can’t go wrong with the Royal or Regal Princess Read Less

Preface: I'll preface my review by saying that my partner and I are both 29 and 33 respectively and we were some of the "younger" passengers. Albeit, I did read plenty of reviews before sailing and knew that Holland America (HAL) was geared towards a more mature crowd so we knew what we were booking. We planned our trip in May 2018 for an Eastern Caribbean itinerary when we first discovered HAL. I traveled on NCL, Carnival, and Disney previously. We were looking for a more refined and relaxed atmosphere (without the hairy chest and belly flop contests). This is a review for the 7 day journey: Ship 5/5: Beautiful ship from the moment you step on to the moment you disembark. Nieuw Amsterdam is one of their newer ships with modern amenities with millions of dollars worth of artwork throughout. I always found something new regardless of how many times I walked the same path. I felt like the ship had a great layout and I never had difficulty finding my way after day 2. It just made sense where points of interests were located. I also seen that this ship is under constant upkeep. I always see crew either painting or cleaning, always making sure the ship is looking new and in great condition. It was also a perfect size being not too large at only 2,000 guests. Sure I've seen the same people over and over again which I loved but I never wondered why is it so crowded as crowds didn't exist except for day 1 at embarkation at the buffet which is expected. Cabin 4.7/5: We stayed in an AFT verandah cabin which I absolutely LOVED! The room was very well appointed for two people and we never felt like we didn't have space either for clothes, belongings, or just two people living together. The room was a great size and the bed was super (and I mean overly) comfortable bed. We never had a problem sleeping at night which could be a combination of not having internet or just the full days we had. We had the perfect room stewards Marko and Suko. Both were so quick at making our room up and cleaning it (albeit we aren't messy people and I actually clean before I leave the room as I feel bad for the long days most workers work...more on that later) and always worked around our schedule. The only downside of the room is it did feel a little outdated. I would love to see the bathroom and a few things updated. Again, how often are you in the room?! Although they did have a plentiful on demand selection of movies to watch. Dining 4.5/5: No matter what restaurant we went to we always had a great meal. The one restaurant that really stood out was the Pinnacle Grill. You may hear a few things about this restaurant, and the positive you hear is true! The service and food was phenomenal. The Pinnacle Grill restaurant is not included and costs $35 per person BUT I will say that price is justified. I included some photos of how many crab legs were included with my meal. We also ate at Lido Buffet and the Main Restaurant in addition to the pizza and burger place and I can honestly say I never had a bad meal. All of the food was very good! I do wish they had more Asian dishes. Why I rated it a 4.5 out of 5 as the food was a 5/5 is because whenever you go to a restaurant they really want you to buy drinks because the person selling the drinks gets an 18 percent tip. So when you order a glass of wine they will try to upsell a bottle. It just got a little pushy sometimes as I get they are just trying to make money but I don't like to be second guessed when I make a choice as "why don't you want a bottle as it's only 23 dollars more?". Overall they will leave you alone if you say "I'm fine" but I just don't like the high treasure sales tactics when I am on vacation. Entertainment and Activities 4.9/5: Now hear me out...we are on a ship in the middle of the ocean, how entertained do you want to be? I won't be critical of the entertainment on ship as I know for a fact the entertainers really gave it their all every night for several months. So into the review...The entertainment on board for the nighttime mainstage ranged from Billboard dancing to Latin Night which I found very entertaining. They also had a comedian and magician. I missed the comedian so we went to the magician with very low expectations and my face hurt from laughing so much. He was hilarious. Throughout the day the had other entertainment for all such as Windows 10 classes, floral arrangements, towel animals, piano request entertainment, and more! I'll be honest there wasn't a time on the schedule where I looked and didn't see something going on that I could attend. I just chose not to go to somethings as I wanted to relax. To end the review there is something for everyone on board and especially during At Sea days. Service 5/5: I work professionally in hospitality where we always use the 10ft rule. If someone is within 10ft of you, you acknowledge them. HAL must use the 25ft rule. When they either see you coming or approach they immediately focus on you and say hello and stop what they are doing. It was totally unexpected but something very small that made a huge difference. I felt like royalty on this ship. I still remember even the smallest request where we asked our room steward can we have ice on the first day for drinks. In the morning and at night they always made sure to refill our ice. Sure, I don't know if they did this for everyone but it was appreciated. Also we always order the same drinks when we go to the Billboard On Board bar and the staff always ask if they can get us the same drink. It was this that out of 2000 passengers made us feel like we were the only ones. Ports and Shore Excursions: I will review each port with a very small snippet review Grand Turk: 3.7/5 Maybe it was the excursion we picked or I don't know but I feel like when I wasn't on the tropical island that was raved about. Instead I felt like we were on a small private island that was commercialized. I would recommend snorkeling!! Puerto Rico: 4.8/5 Such a nice island! I been hear many times and even coming back multiple times there is just so much to do. This is a location where you don't need to book an excursion and just walk around if you are able. St. Thomas: 4.9/5 This island was my ultimate favorite on this entire itinerary! The island is just beautiful every way you look at it. What I would recommend is booking a Jeep or car and exploring the island yourself. There is so much to see and do but with a car you can do what you want to do. Why I took off such a small amount is because I been planning for us to dock at a certain port (Havensight) for months and constantly checked daily and even the ports calendar said we would dock at a certain location. Up until the moment we arrived we docked at Crown Bay which took quite a bit of logistical planning to get to Havensight for our Jeep. I would definitely book come back here. Half Moon Cay: 2.7/5 Sigh...and breathe. Now that I got that over with let me write my review. Let me say that this port had my biggest expectation which may have swayed my review. When we arrived we were made aware that the Koningsdam and us were the two ships that were docked at this port this day. Side information is that Half Moon Cay is owned by Carnival as their private island. The Konsingsdam holds a good amount of passengers and our ship holds a good amount of passengers. The island just felt very overwhelming and I didn't find it relaxing at all. We booked a Clam Shell three months in advanced which is an umbrella with two chairs. Since our ship was delayed by an hour for a medical emergency (no fault to anyone, things happen) we found it very difficult to find a chair. Every person we went to told us to go somewhere else. Finally we found a clamshell in front of a very loud family. We just head back to the ship after being on the island for 2 hours. The food on the island was very good and the staff that pulled the meal off was very good! Other: The crew is what makes the ship a solid 10/10 as they work such long days and are always looking for ways to make you happy. We booked a Retreat Cabana for the At Sea days and Korn and Raymond work such long days but always had a smile. I would say the crew is what makes Nieuw Amsterdam the ship that it is. My very minor (is he really complaining about theses things?) complaint section: Some very minor things that didn't change my trip at all but I thought I could always add it below. - I found the bathrooms to be adequate size but the toilet seats to be very small. I am by no means a big guy being 5'7 and 145 pounds but they just seemed small. - There was no midnight buffets or late night dining options past 11:30pm except for room service. I wish they had a buffet at midnight or maybe a specialty snack station. But knowing the demographics of the ship maybe midnight really is too late. Read Less

The Bad : Ship shakes under sail and unbelievably worse in port, especially annoying when you are dining. Common areas good condition but we had hit and miss cabins this fall and winter, some ok and some awful condition. Ship staff said they can’t update the rooms without a dry dock and the company keeps putting that off. Personally had and witnessed some negative interactions with the Guest Services Staff. As typical of the brand no built in activies for active adults and children. Just off a Christmas cruise on another ship of the brand, many families cruising and the young people were bored out of their minds. Royal Caribbean, Carnival or Norwegian would have been a better choice for a family vacation. The Good: The company has invested in Internet upgrades for this ship. Room and Dining staff generally excellent as is usual throughout the brand. Food quality and selection was on par with the brand and far superior to Royal Caribbean. Read Less

Cruised Sept 23-30 Chose this cruise because it was my first time on Allure and the dates really worked for my schedule. The service model on this ship is broken and they could really use a week off to retrain everyone (not going to happen). I tried to write my experience in 3 categories. NEGATIVES 1. Upselling is out of control. Once you step foot on the ship you're being up-sold if you take a spa treatment, sit in the main dining room (while you're eating) or just going to get a drink. I understand being hustled in the various ports of calls because in most cases we are dealing with people who see us as well off compared to their circumstances, but the hustling aboard the ship to enrich an already wealthy corporation that I have already paid thousands to have a relaxing time, is offensive. 2. Took me a few days to realize that the bar folks did not need to present a white ticket for each drink and that this was a cheap ploy to get an "additional tip". This practice was pervasive. We had full drink packages and based on our sea pass cards the waiters knew that. Every drink includes a tip but the ticket has a space for "Additional Tip"????? I guess this is RCCL way of trying to make the tipping process transactional instead of tipping at the end of the cruise. I made a point of tipping at the end of the cruise the three people who did not present these tickets. 3. Some of the folks in the food and beverage service could really use some training on how to relate to guest and just good table manners. This was so pervasive I have to conclude that it is a lack of training issue POSITIVES 1. Pool life guards were very attentive and watchful during EVERY shift. This did not vary from person to person. It was consistent. 2. Room Steward was friendly and cleaned my room like magic. He cleaned twice per day without ever knocking on the door. -Survey; While the Genie will look at them they won’t have it memorized so manage your expectations and make an effort to have your preferred drinks etc (note that if you like a certain type of liquor that is rare or Dr Pepper they will get it onboard for you but you need to say something before the cruise so they can plan)… Some people comment on the “gift from the Genie” being associated with the survey but don’t look at it that way as our cabins gift had nothing to do with the survey… -Intro email from the Genie: this is your welcome letter and its more or less a generic letter but it does give you an email address if you want to communicate with your Genie… -Genie/Loop App; possibly one of the worst designed communication platforms… first of all its not an app but a website that has to be refreshed constantly… long story short don’t use it… use your Genie’s email from your intro email or call them if onboard the ship by using the direct number on their business card they give you… -ASK FOR A DECT PHONE in your emails prior to boarding… for newbies it’s the same cell phone that the Genie and managers carry around onboard and can be used to call other rooms, Genie, and Room Attendants… -Make Thank You Cards… I’ll attach a copy of the ones I had done on one of those business card websites… its crazy cheap to do and people will be impressed… you would be shocked that the Genies we gave them out to and tons of the staff hadn’t seen them done before and actually kept them… They also served as a cool way to share your info with other cruisers you meet on board… -Get $2 bills… Yes, you read that right… whenever we travel we always bring a ton of $2 bills for tips.. it’s a fun gimmick as everyone loves $2 bills… this will also help them remember you… use the “thank you business cards” with a $2 or more tip as you hop around the boat and watch how everyone goes out of their way to help you… (yes, your gratuities are included but a few bucks here and there is always appreciated) -Bring a small gift for your Room Attendant and Genie on Day 1… don’t go overthink it.. something small and as easy as candy or something from your home town… it’s simply thought… -Order some fun envelopes for tips throughout the trip… I’ll attach some pics of the ones I bought off amazon.. we would generally only use these for nice lunches and dinners every night as well as the final “big tips” for everyone at the end of the trip… -Get there a day early and don’t party too hard the night before Read Less

Overall in a nutshell, the cruise was great. Our cruise embarked from Fort Lauderdale, FL and that was semi stressful only because we flew out the day of the cruise. It was nice that you can choose your boarding time (1:30-2:30), saving a lot of time being overcrowded with all 3,000 people trying to get on at the same time. Embarkation went smoothly though for the most part. The ship was beautiful. The staff worked 24/7 to cater to passangers needs, including cleaning the ship at all hours of the night, making food and carrying luggage to doors. I was a bit worried when my luggage didnt arrive with my husbands, but it eventually made it within the half hour. The cabin was small but we chose the least expensive once since we were not planning to be in the cabin unless we were sleeping. The king was 2 twin sized beds pushed together, but they were comfortable. The first thing I did was flip the mattress over to check for bedbugs....negative for bugs. The dining was okay in my opinion. There was A LOT of fried food...and to someone that tried to eat healthy, it was a little stressful to find a meal that was not deep fried. I ate sushi a couple of nights, but the sushi was not included, so you had to pay out of pocket for it. Just a tip for those who have never been on a cruise before- if it shows a $ and has a price, it is not included. Food included will not have a price next to it. The food was okay, breakfast was my favorite. The pirate pizza was actually to die for- never fails for a late night snack after drinking all day. Entertainment was great...I LOVED Matt the cruise director. He was always getting people up and dancing, at every stop off the ship as well. He was hallerious and always started the party. He made my trip, big time. The only negative was that the ship only had 1 water slide (which was super slow- you had to push yourself down so you wouldnt get stuck), there were only 3 pools and surprisingly they were small (people were cramming in there like sardines), and there were not a lot of activities to do outdoors but lay out. The service was phenominal. The staff was sooo accomodating and did so much for everyone. Everyday going back to the room, I found a different animal that was made from towels- which always put a smile on my face. I also heard some passangers being very rude with some employees, and the employees bit their lip and did not comment back. They took a lot from people and still managed to fake a smile. Our cabin leader Oka was fabulous. He even gave me a $50- spa giftcard for my birthday which was super generous. Jonathon was the best entertainer there- he was in the piano bar. Very nice, greeted everybody who walked in- and was a pleasure to be around. He had a great voice and his piano skills were on fleek. I also loved his english accent- was never a dull moment. As for the ports, I was not too impressed with Nassaeu Bahamas because of the people there. There was a woman who worked in hair braiding who chased me and my sister in law to thread our hair- even though we told her we did not want to do it. They are money hungry and will not stop at anything to get your service. Half moon cay was the absolute best. We only had 4.5 hours there, which was too short. I would stay there forever if I could. Matt the cruise director had people line up for limbo on the beach and put together some fun activities. The water was the most crystal clear water that I had ever seen. I would seriously want to be buried in half moon cay. Turks and Caicos was kind of a disappointment. There was brown stuff in the water- not sure if it was from the last hurricane but it made me hesitant to swim in the water. Once you get passed the brown water, it was nice and warm. Most of the people from the cruise ship stayed in Margaritaville (where chairs were free), and Matt got together dance groups (girls vs males)- let me tell you: there was a LOT of twerking. It was so much fun though, he kept us laughing the whole time. I would ultimately go again, and this time I would bring my 2 kids. Carnival conquest offers a kids room where they keep them occupied with books, games and activities- my husband and I did a quick walk through and felt that it would be fun to bring our 2 daughters and leave them there for activities that kids cannot do.
