My family of four chose this ship and itinerary because we have always wanted to see Key West, Cuba, and Cozumel, but never wanted to fly to these places and spend more than a few days. I have to say had a terrific time! We only cruised one other time on the Oasis of the Seas, so we were a bit nervous about scaling down from one of the largest ships to one of RC smallest ships. Nevertheless, we loved the Empress! It was (literally) smooth sailing. The ship is certainly much smaller and does not have all the bells and whistles, but it was no less fun. Our interior rooms (we had two) were tidy thanks to Manuel G. He did a great job keeping up with our teenagers' room, which is no easy feat! Chandan and Milton took great care of us in the Starlight main dining room; Chandan even went out of his way on a few occasions to say hello to us in the Windjammer. The nightly entertainment was terrific each night - we really laughed. Hugo Arenas, the Cruise Director was terrific ("yes or yes") and really set the tone for the entire time. We navagated Key West on our own, which went well (it is walkable). The two excusions we booked for Cozumel and Cuba (Best of Havana Express with Heminway House & Mayan Runins w/Chocolate Tasting) were great. Cozumel was not what we were expecting as far as the port was concerned and I will say that of all of the ports we have been to now we were harrassed the most at Cozumel. Those who run the excursions at Cozumel and Cuba also had no problem asking for tips for just about every one that is encountered! We even had to pay a dollar to use the rest room in Cuba. Read Less

I went of this cruise because of the shore excursion to Cuba and I was not disappointed. I will definitely do another cruise with Royal Caribbean the entertainment and activities were nice and the dinning experience could be better, but I am a vegan and there needs to be more choices for people who are on a vegan diet. The rooms were clean and well kept. The embankment and disembarkation went very smoothly and all the ports. I traveled with my teenage daughter and she made many friends while on the ship, the only thing she didn't like was the lack of channels on the television in the evening. and she wished they showed movies for kids more her age. I plan on doing another cruise with Royal Caribbean within the next year or so. I have even purchase a next cruise for next year hopefully with more family members. Read Less

Overall the cruise was wonderful. The crew provided 5 star service. The ship was kept immaculate at all times. Cabin was extremely comfortable and surprisingly spacious. Our chamber attendant Lillian was a sweetie. She always left a special towel creation on the bed, which always brought a smile to our faces. The onboard activities were fun and entertaining. I discovered a new passion for Salsa dancing at the Boleros Lounge. THE FOOD, was amazing. So much variety. No matter where we ate the food was delicious and perfectly prepared and seasoned. The evening dinner experience was the highlight of the entire experience due to our waiters Abdelkarim and Alexis. They catered to our every whim, wants and culinary desires. They were simply amazing. Don't know how they did it but after the first night, they remembered and intuitively provided our unique and specific dinning whims each every night. Before we would ask for something it was there magically. They provided the best dining experience ever! Read Less

The dining room is set up so you feel you are dining in style, they have a complimentary Brunch on the Day at Sea, it was very well done, free Mimosa and the food was delicious. The ship is easily navigated and Deck 11, has all kinds of gathering spaces and Hammocks Full size, she is a small ship but the staff will make you feel welcome. give her a try. The entertainment was awesome, took my breath away and Fully enjoyed the Free concert on Board put on by Gregg London from Vegas, he is super talented and the energy he delivers everyone in the theater was dancing. The cruise Director Carlos super talented and Ladies not bad on the eyes either.... The stateroom Folks keep everything in working order and clean super clean. The staff was great. Everything on the boat closes after 1:30 which sucked. for my prev cruises there was always a 24 resturrant, ice cream and pizza. And also the room service after midnight cost for the delivery. The boat was a smallest one ive been on but was god for relaxation. The food taste was great but like i said before wish it was open later for the people that have different sleeping paterns.  The rooms and bathrooms in the room were very outdated , but other parts of the ship were updated recently.  But getting on and off the ship was the smoothest and quckest ive ever wet through out of all the cruises ive been on. There was alot of older folks on the cruise and i know they had a great time . It was very easy for them to navigate with little walking. I wouldnt recommend this as a cruise for kids though. My wife and I went on one of the older ships, Empress of the Seas. It was very inexpensive. General rule of thumb in life is you get what you pay for. We have been on larger ships for longer time frames and this just couldn't compare. The food at the buffet and in the dining room was not very good. The selections were very minimal. The drinks were not as strong and the over all cleanliness was fair. If you go on one of the smaller older vessels just don't expect much! This cruise would be an OK starter vessel for someone with no expectations. I didn't find the activity list to be to grand. If you want to sit by the pool and have a cocktail, this is it because there isn't much else during the day. If you do want to sit poolside, get there early! We see families come and put their stuff on the beach chairs in the morning and rarely even use them during the day. Seeing there are only 100 or so, the staff should monitor them more closely/. For the size of this ship, I did like the 1/4mile track and the fitness room! If you simply want R&R, not horrible but don't go expecting something you would get on a newer ship! Read Less

I am a loyal Royal Caribbean cruiser. I have been on all sizes of the Royal fleet. This cruise made my tenth cruise. My daughter won a complimentary cruise on Empress of the Seas so we were excited to try the baby ship of the fleet. Although smaller then the other ships, Royal Caribbean did a great job making this ship feel "Royal". There were many things available on this ship as on the larger but on a smaller scale. We went to Key West and Cozumel,Mexico for our ports of call. The food was great and the entertainment was great. I always enjoy the main dining room for the evening meal because I like being waited on. The brunch in the main dining room on sea days was very good. The cabins are smaller than on the larger ships which is to be expected. But with a little organization, we had enough room. We all laughed at the jokes made about the smaller bathrooms. They were smaller but comparable to a bathroom in some travel trailers. The service was as good as on the larger ships and the crew were very friendly and helpful and fun. Only one thing was more noticeable on the smaller ship at times and that was the movement front to back. The side movement was taken care of by the stabilizers. It was not constant. Only in certain parts of the Gulf. It was not a problem for me or my daughter but others might want to use a patch. This was a nice little ship and we had a great time. I would do it again. Happy Cruising!!! Read Less

Awesome experience. Had a good time as it was my first cruise. Service was excellent. Did all the homework on how to go around Cozumel and Key West which made me easy to move around without any experience. People in Cozumel as so friendly and gave a good direction to move around. No Spanish No Problem you can pretty much understand and convey what you need. Key west was awesome too most of the place is just a walk away. I wish we had more activities for kids which seems to be less. Good entertainment had lot of fun after 7:00 pm. Embarkation and Disembarkation was simple and easy most of the staff and friendly and quick. Food was excellent along with service. We definitely would do it again in future. Planning to go again next year for sure. A good time we spent with the family together most of the time. Read Less

I chose this cruise as a last minute getaway. I bought the tickets four days before sailing. I like the itinerary with 5 nights and the last minute pricing was very good. We sailed from Miami to Key West and took in the day there. It was not my first time there so we knew what we wanted to do and had a great time scuba diving the reef and shopping Duval St. After a day relaxing at sea we did some cave diving in Playa de Carmen after making port in Cozumel. We wish we had a little more time for shopping but the excursion took all 8 hrs so it means we will just have to go back. While in port at Cozumel the Capt. Explains hurricane Matthew is slowing down over Cuba and the Bahamas and Miami is shutting down the airport and sea port so we have to have a free day in Costa Maya just south of Cozumel. Of course no one complained, the staff did a great job of keeping the guests informed and allowing access to phone and internet to schedule our travel home one we made port Friday afternoon. As far as the cruise itself, like the Royal Caribbean cruises I have been on before, I was left with a great impression, had a lot of fun and have already scheduled my next 10 day cruise with RC next April. We are two seniors that cruised on the Empress of the Seas and just returned two days ago. We did not have any expectations of the cruise but were pleasantly surprised. It was one of the best cruises that we have ever been on. The ship was refitted and beautifully done. Cabin looked new, was very clean and easy to move around and all functioned well. The food was excellent and service was above and beyond any we have had before. The officers and staff were friendly and catered to your every need. I really cannot say enough for this ship except it made for a great summer vacation for us. We would do this again in a heart beat. I salute Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and for this ship and all the staff should be recognized and rewarded. They deserve every mention. A big Thank You to them and we hope to see them again soon.
