Had high expectations for Danube cruise. Paid nearly £5000 for two for 1 week. Turned out to be very poor value for money. Not very much to say that is positive apart from visiting the beautiful cities of Budapest and Vienna. Food was not very good, not a lot of choice and found the staff did not always replenish quickly. Drinks were included with lunch and dinner but only one choice of red, white so if you didn’t like what was on offer you had to pay for an alternative. Not much on offer entertainment wise apart from Anton and Erin being on board for one night which was excellent. You sometimes had to ask to get another drink as not enough staff. Most of the staff were very nice although a few were rude. If we ever do another river cruise it definitely will not be on an emerald boat. Read Less

We always wanted to do a river cruise and this appealed to us. We chose the river cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam. Everything was great, food, tours, rooms, etc We were not disappointed in a thing except for the fact we had to spend night one in a hotel. The river was blocked by a cargo ship but this beyond control of the Emerald Sky. The staff is outstanding and did everything in their power to make the journey enjoyable. Nina, our cruise director was so sweet and very organized to name a few of her assets. There are 68 locks between Budapest and Amsterdam. Something for Prairie Canadians to see! You always see the beauty of the shores as you sail. Many vineyards etc All inclusive, except for alcohol but there was plenty of wine or beer with your meals. Lots of selection at the meals food wise. We took 6.00 adaptors for the plug ins. Would we go again?? In a heartbeat. May have to win the lottery to be able to afford another Read Less

I am not a good sailor on the sea, so my partner persuaded me to try a River Cruise. We are not young, my partner being 86 and I am 2 months short of 80, and this cruise was absolutely right for us. We did not have any complaints, and the staff were really so nice and pleasant. We did go on every morning outing, but on the slow or gentle walking bus or guide, which suited us and we enjoyed what we saw. The entertainment was all to our liking, and the resident pianist, who also sang, was excellent too. I didn't realise there would be a dance floor, or I would have included suitable shoes, but we still managed to have a dance, which we love. I was so happy that I didn't put on any weight (having seen this happen to others on cruises) and this was due to the food that we got - there was no time we were unhappy with anything. Read Less

we saw this as an opportunity to see French towns and that did not disappoint. however the staff are fed up and unhappy. If management went undercover they'd gauge their staff as they are easy to talk to you and slag off the company. this is not good as it filters to passengers. the food is basic and certainly not top notch. complimentary drink or people on the full package do not get their glasses refilled often and it's clear the staff are under orders not to re-fill often. I mean there was a long wait between drinks. their are not enough waiters in the bar and they deliberately wander around trying not to make eye contact, again a sign on not serving too many drinks and top deck on sun lounge no staff were ever seen - shocking. shore excursions - extra trips are over priced and not value for money. other companies are certainly better. overall rating average. entertainment is poor and the pianist is clearly depressed. you could save money and put on a CD. they are now not bothered if staff or especially passengers sanitise on leaving and entering ship and not bothered if passengers sanitise going into restaurant. again, shocking as a lot of old people and infection control is paramount. Reviewed many river companies and chose Emerald for value, the new vessels and excellent reviews and I was not disappointed. Everything was well organised and worked like clockwork. Rooms were comfortable and spotless. Well cleaned and with towel art on beds when you arrived back from what ever you were doing. City tours were well organised with use of good communication tools. The cruise director was excellent and was always available. Great atmosphere with good entertainment. The Hungarian orchestra and dancers were particularly good, as were the German Oompah band.Highlight was the concert with small orchestra and classical singers in Vienna. Food was also of good quality. Buffet for breakfast and lunch and silver service in the evenings. We could not have asked for more as staff were also brilliant and welcoming. This helped make it a great experience, along wth the fascinating people that you met on the cruise. My wife enjoyed the experience so much that we have booked a further cruise with Emerald for 2018. This was a first time experience doing a river cruise, normally we do the big ships.so off we set.arrived in Amsterdam after a bit of fun trying to find the agent from the ship we all get on the couch ,arrived at the port, ship looked magnificent,so easy to get on Sky,refreshing drink and towel was presented, nice touch. We were in our cabin within 15 minutes and luggage almost behind us,that's impressive. Unpacked ,plenty of space for all the clothes and shoes do look in the bathroom there's 2 hidden cupboards behind the mirror smart. Then it was time to explore what we saw was a clean tidy ship, staff very very friendly always asking if every thing was ok or order a drink. We opted for the premium drinks package very nice. The only real big let down was the food ,I'm not a fussy eater at breakfast bacon burnt ,a fairly good selection, but boring, lunch some food tepid again boring.dinner ,what planet did that chef come from.some weird and wonderful mixtures he produced. The entertainment was ok,nothing to write home about.excursions superb there was 2 types fast pace or meander speed,we did both meander was perfect,a nice steady pace ,saw a lot of things, really good.Would we go again, yes,I think next time Portugal.
