Two words to describe it, below expectations. Our cabin steward was very efficient with what he could be in control of but we never got bathrobes! He can't supply what he does not have. It took two days to get pre-bought water two days for soda cups and nvere did get coffee card cups. We had as per norm deluxe balconey and we saw spring breakers from inside cabins walking all around the ship even at the late shows in the theater in bathrobes. It was noticed that some of them had interior cabins. We had to share one pool towel a day between the two of us and at times had to shower with two day old wet bath shower that we had to share. Three massages and never had a towel after. One massage was given a with stringy old faded cabin robe not one from the spa. The service in the sanctuary was none existant also. The only time we had contact with staff would be at 330 for tea and one day I received tea at that time but my pastry came 45 minutes later. The sanctuary was not even a third full so I don't know why it was so poor. There were no towels available around the pools either just crates of dirty wet ones. Main dinning room service was hit and miss also. Some nights like the old days and others three plus hours to eat again the dinning rooms were not full and we never had a wait for a table. Nights with out movies under the stars and no show in the Princess theater. We got on Princess cays at 1145 after waiting 45 mins. for a shuttle and got the last clam shell available There were 3 couples behind us that had pre bought also and were told maybe they could get a refund back on the ship. What shows and acts that were run were excellent. Dress code were not enforced cut off shorts tank tops scruffy hats at dinner and all over the ship at night. If the dress code is not enforceable then eliminate them as it would cut down immensly on luggage cost. All in all disappointing We are a year or two from elite status but if the next cruise is like this I would consider giving up those percs for a different cruise line. I gave Princess a critic on board and when we returned home and have not heard a word in three weeks. All the staff was friendly although they did seemed stressed and over worked. Read Less

All in all, a very nice time! The Spring Breakers were partying up a storm, but never got obnoxious or intrusive...there were just ...em...a LOT of them. That being said, it was my bad for not taking this into consideration; my kids are grown and Spring Break hasn't been an issue for a number of years, so...oh well. I'll know better next time. We stayed on the Lido Deck (15) in L102 - pretty much directly on the center point of the bow...AND IT WAS FABULOUS!!! OMG - I will never stay in the lower decks again after this! Lido is where it is all happening, and I didn't have to wait for elevators, etc. Just walk out of the room, and BAM! ALL the fun! Didn't feel any ship sway, slept like a BABY and zero overhead noise! The upcharge restaurants (Crown Grill and Gastro Pub - did not do Share) were well worth it, but the Dining room selections were meh, and so was the Horizon Ct buffet. Food does not seem to be the star on Princess as it is on other lines. The Casino (in my opinion) is pretty lame - all slots and table games - a couple of sad pusher machines. No claws, no throwers. I like slots, but I want coins spilling out, not "credits" on the face of the machine. ESPECIALLY when I am paying cash to play them, not my ship-board account. Again, just me. (DH did a job on the Blackjack tables tho - came back w/ $350 after betting only $40 - but he's good at that kind of thing). Embarkation to Princess Cay (Bahamas) was a long and boring proposition waiting for the tenders, and it was all just a big beach party...I should have just stayed onboard. But Grand Turk was easy as pie and great fun! We booked a Segway tour which was completely hilarious! Our Guides KJ and Manny were so patient and thorough - the Segway can be intimidating at first, but really, it's easy! And COMPLETELY fun - do it, you won't be disappointed! All in all, it was a nice cruise. We had much better service on Carnival, but again, it was Spring Break, so I'm not going to down Princess on this - they were packed full. We'll try Princess again, but we'll probably go with Carnival first. Read Less

A bit of background, I have had somewhere around 13 cruises, mostly on RCI, so still a newbie by many accounts. I have enjoyed all the cruises I have taken, and I don’t really have a preference for a particular line. I have mostly been on RCI only because if I travel with my sister in law, or some friends of ours, they are loyal royal. I am not. Variety is more important to me. So, I have a goal to try all of the mass lines. So far, from my vantage point, they are all more alike than they are different. I sometimes travel with my husband and our two children, and sometimes I travel with friends. This time it was myself, and my college roommate from many moons ago. This was my first Princess experience. For reasons I can’t explain, I thought that this line would prove to me that there are some lines that are superior lines. I didn’t really come away with that idea being validated. However, I did very much enjoy Princess, and will certainly cruise with them again. And, I do realize it isn’t fair to compare any line with just one voyage under the belt. Two voyages on the same line are often night and day in comparison. At any rate, on to the review of this sailing: So I think it is very safe to say this isn’t considered a “typical” Princess sailing. (very likely another reason why it didn’t deliver the experience I expected.) This was a 5 night sailing on Emerald Princess, leaving FLL and sailing to Princess Cays and Grand Turk. It was also the peak of spring break, and many, many young adults (and I use “adult” very loosely here) were on board. I am only 44, but I felt WAY old on this sailing. Which I think from all the research I have done, is not the norm on Princess. Embarkation: A breeze, but only because my friend had some status with Princess, so we got to skip the long line and pretty much get right on board. I usually am up and ready to get the port by 11, but on this voyage we didn’t arrive until closer to Noon. We got right on the ship, and the room was ready! That is something I am not used to, and I LOVED being able to check out the room and leave my carryon items. AND, our luggage was delivered right away. We were all settled in and unpacked before muster! A first for me. Another small thing I really liked, is they provided us with maps of the ship that are little fold up paper maps with a cardboard front and back to keep it protected. It was great to have in my pocket. When I was sitting in my lounge chair I could pull it out and refer to it. A small, but nice touch. I also appreciated their ap, Princess at Sea. I was able to do all kinds of things on that ap. I usually turn my cell phone off and toss it in the safe for the voyage. This time I decided to try the ap, and I really liked it. I can’t compare it, as I have not an ap yet on any other line. Muster was interesting. You still have to bring your life vest on Princess, I have not done that for a long time on other lines. And they took a lot longer to go through the process than I expected. It was made a little better by sitting in a lounge instead of being packed like sardines on the deck, but we sat there for about 40 minutes, and couldn’t hear half of what was said. The Emerald Princess is a beautiful ship in my opinion. It was clean, and the décor was pleasing and beautiful. The only thing that drove me nuts about this ship was the lay out of the Horizon Court buffet. What a nightmare it was getting in and out of there! But the food was fine, and there are lots of other options. The pizza was very good, there were several excellent choices at the International Café, and we attended a PUB lunch that was complimentary in the Salty Dog on one day, so our exposure to the buffet was limited. We ate at the MDR each night, and the service and food was very good. We shared a table with others most nights, and enjoyed the company of meeting new folks. I did not enjoy the shows on this voyage. There was a hypnotist, who was not to my liking for entertainment value, and there was a comedian that was sort of funny, but mostly just kept cracking up at himself. The CD was a bit of a snore as well. Nice man, but not very engaging IMO. One thing that I really did enjoy was movies under the stars. This concept is excellent. They put soft coverings on the lounge chairs, offer blankets, and have popcorn available. We saw a couple of recent releases and I really liked this option. I don’t have time for movies when I am home running from work to my kids various activities and such, so this was something that I appreciated being able to do. They also had some other good entertainment on the screen, like Elton John, and Bon Jovi. That is of course my opinion, but I liked what they had going on the screen. I made my usual donation at the casino, as far as casinos go, this one was not any better/worse than any other ship casinos IMO. Our cabin seemed bigger than I am used to for an inside. I book all over the map as far as room type. It depends on the itinerary and cost as to whether or not I am going to spring for a balcony or suite. I went with an inside this voyage. The room was plenty big enough for two with plenty of storage. I much preferred the layout of this cabin over any other ship inside that I have had. And the beds, my word the beds…. I have never slept in a more comfortable bed on a cruise ship in my life! A big thumbs up for the beds. Two very nice oversized pillows, super comfy bedding, and the mattress was perfect. I wanted to bring it home with me. Our room steward was excellent. Perfectly attentive. The only thing that I did not enjoy with our cabin was the shower. On most, if not all of my cruises to date, the shower nozzle has a way to lift it up and down, or totally off so that with limited space, you can take the shower nozzle in hand. That makes things so much easier. This one did not offer that convenience. Not a huge deal, but shaving was an adventure in this shower. I am glad I am somewhat flexible and short! This voyage stopped at the Princess private Island, Princess Cays, and at Grand Turk. Princess Cays was your typical private island. A very nice beach area, with lunch served and a bit of local shopping. We had to take a tender to the beach. This was pretty much just a wonderful, lazy beach day for us. Weather was beautiful. They offered plenty of activities, but we were content to lounge under the shade of a palm tree and nap, and read. The other stop was Grand Turk. I can’t comment on the actual island, as we did an excursion that left right from the beach. So we didn’t venture into Grand Turk itself. The ship docked here, so it was easy to get off and on. As soon as you depart the pier, there is a Jimmy Buffet restaurant, and shops. Also there is a beach right at the pier area. Along the beach there all kinds of companies selling excursions. I had done some prior research, and we walked down the beach and bought a snorkel/swim with sting rays excursion with lunch for $50.00 that had been recommended. We very much enjoyed this! Very small group. 6 of us total. We were well taken care of. I am glad we did the excursion, the beach was way too crowded for my liking. There was a Carnival ship that arrived a few hours after we did which made for a very busy day at the beach. A few more random thoughts: I am unsure if it was just my cabin, but the hairdryer they provided was a little better than horrid. I am glad I brought one. I wish there had been more trivia, we did this one afternoon and it was fun, but I didn’t see that they offered much in the way of trivia. The jogging track on this ship was pitiful. Very, very small. I used it once. Then I just settled on walking the promenade on deck 7. The gym is not well designed in that there are cabins directly underneath, so they do not allow people to use treadmills until 8 am. By then I want to be done with my exercise! That was a bummer. Walking the promenade and doing all stairs instead of the elevator was good enough for this sailing. All in all, this was just what I wanted, a nice relaxing vacation. I will definitely sail on Princess again, I am interested to see what a longer voyage not during spring break would be like. For now, I am going to give Celebrity a try next spring. Happy Sailing! I booked this cruise for my daughters 30th and my husbands 60th birthdays. When we were first boarding I noted to my daughter how many young people were onboard. Boy, was that an understatement! It was spring break mayhem! LINES for a drink at the pool bar was crazy. Each kid had a card with unlimited drinks and they ordered the most complicated ones (so they would have the most booze) and instead of the bartenders having a pre mix all were made to order. Horrendous way to wait and order a drink every single time! To boot, a possey of them would sashay up and you would wait in interminable amount of time. They overtook the main pool area so unless you were into a really loud raucous scene, you stayed on the "movies under the stars" pool area. Lines to wait for food in Horizon Court most mornings. I felt like it was a carnival cruise (which I was never on) instead of a princess. I have never been on such a big boat and don't plan on going on one again. If you can not judge what the typical demographic is by the cruise ships own criteria then you are stuck with 750 college kids on your boat. The food in Horizon was OK but the food in the dining room was pretty poor. We went to the specialty restaurant 2 out of the 4 nights. One we booked when we first went embarked for a birthday celebration and the other we begged them to take us because we couldn't stand another meal of sub par food. The specialty restaurant food was pretty good. We did like the Movies under the stars and they had current movies playing. I guess that was the best thing we liked. Maybe we got caught in a glitch of spring breakers but I won't make that mistake again! Read Less

This is my 41st cruise and my first review on Cruise Critic. Princess is an outstanding cruise line and one of my favorites, but, they need to work on a few things. As I stated, I have been on 41 cruises, so I consider myself a bit of an seasoned cruiser. Princess has the worst embarkation process I have ever encountered. I have only been on four Princess cruises and for each cruise there has been a line outside of the terminal- the wait was almost an hour just to get into the door! WOW!! Yes- Princess is worth the wait, but there are a number of people that find the wait difficult. Once inside, only one security line was open causing a longer backup. After you received your key, we were told to sit in another waiting area, once that area was filler, we were allowed to board the ship. The employees were rude with nasty and unnecessary comments ( I made the mistake of standing up because I was tired of sitting and I was told to sit and wait, the ship isn't going anyplace so just sit). Once on the ship I was amazed at her beauty! The Emerald Princess is a lovely ship and has a lot to offer. First, I must note that most employees aboard the ship are outstanding! They are very hardworking and will do almost anything for you. I traveled with my spouse and some friends. My friend wanted a pickle for her Bloody Mary and Jaime went out of his way to find her some pickles- something that he did not need to do! The staff made the trip enjoyable. My hubby and I stayed in balcony cabin A406 and it was roomy, clean and comfortable. The balcony had room for just a small table and two chairs, but it was mid-ship and covered. Our room steward kept our room tidy and took care of us the entire time. Dining- the food was good. I have had better on other Princess ships, but once again, the staff made the difference. They were outstanding. The top award would go to entertainment. I was very impressed with the entertainment aboard the Emerald Princess. The Illusionist show took my breath away. If you will be cruising on her soon, make sure you do not miss the shows. The comedians were hilarious! This was a short four day cruise, we had two days and a day at Grand Cayman. The pools were clean, the pizza delicious, the malts were the best! It was one of the most relaxing and memorable cruises I have taken. I was very relaxed until disembarkation! Disembarkation was just as bad as embarkation. Due to the port needing to close the parking garage at Terminal 2, this is where we parked our car, the ship returned to terminal 19 and everyone was shuttled back to terminal 2. Once again, the line snacked around the building, the staff was rude and it was very slow going. Princess had one person telling people which bus to take, the driver did not get off the bus to help load luggage- my husband loaded the luggage for our bus, he just happened to be the youngest gentleman (he is 57) on the bus beside the driver who did nothing. Once we were at the parking garage, once again my dear husband unloaded the luggage for everyone, there was no way we were going to have any of the older gentlemen (some with canes) unload those heavy bags. The driver just sat and did nothing. Shame on Princess for allowing this to happen. Read Less

The title says it all. Lots of Spring Breakers doing some serious drinking--boys and girls. Glad no one went over board. It was one big party for them......ill leave it there. Our state room (Riveria deck) never got cool, always felt stuffy. Cabin steward did great job. Many workers seemed overwhelmed by the number of Spring Breakers and just let things go. My problem was with over pricing for the Thermal Suite. More for a single ($99) yet a $65 avg for couples. They didn't turn the FREE steam room in the men's locker room until the 3rd day. When I asked about it, I was told to pay for the Thermal Suite because it worked there. I let that slide. As a diabetic, sugar free isn't just a choice, its a necessity. Great disappointment everyday to find only chocolate (I hate) available at the ice cream counter, receiving the same blank stare when asked about something different. Why the pizzaria with its ovens would share a counter with the ice cream parlor baffles me--Hamburgers are way over at the far end of the pool. I may be in the minority--I did not like the Magic musical. The Comidian was funny. Not enough variety of slots in the casino.....huge area wasted with open space for drinkers.... Thought the Horizon Court food was pretty bland. MDR was good...Crown Grill was great. Other than college kids standing 8 deep at the bars, this was a pretty bland cruise for me.....Not seeing the big deal about the Emerald Princess. Maybe if some things worked better and the crew wasn't punch drunk from the drinkers. Will I sail again during Sprig Break? Never....Would I go out of my way to sail the Emerald? No. Will I continue to sail Princess? ABSOLUTELY This short review is IMHO. After 27 past Princess Cruises, this was the first one I was glad when it was over........That sums it up. Read Less

We were apprehensive about the Emerald after reading some negative reviews. Those were quickly squashed by what was an awesome two weeks. We were onboard about 1/2 hr earlier than our scheduled time. Partly since we are Platinum with priority boarding and also the embarkation system is smooth and fast moving. We were upgraded so our Oceanview had become a Balcony and we were very pleased with the room. FIrst time Balcony users here! Our air conditioning was not as cold as it could be and we were told immediately that there was a problem with it and they were coming to fix the problem. They did and the room was not as cold as it could have been compared to the hallways but it was very comfortable. Our room steward Ana was so kind, friendly and attentive. Always smiling. We chose Traditional Dining and our table staff Paul and Nadiia were very fast, efficient, always ready to answer to our needs. Francesco, our Head waiter gave the ladies "cheek" kisses, woed the table with his antics and attention. The food in the Buffet was, well, buffet food. They had new items everyday as well as some popular regular items. We were at the buffet only for breakfast and lunch. The International Cafe seemed to always have an interesting variety of salads, sandwiches and desserts for the after party snackers of which we were a few times. I few things I did have to comment on and trying not to be negative as its only a personal opinion BUT.... some improvements that really need to happen..... 1. More seating in the Princess Theatre or really get after people to get into the middle of those rows. Lots of seats that were singles or in the middle left empty because of "Aisle hogs". Maybe about 5 minutes before the shows there could be staff, placing people towards the middle. 2. The Princess Patter was so full of things to see and do. But a lot of it was "unhosted". We went to the Explorer's Lounge to play Wii Sports, (Yeah, I know... we are on vacation) but my husband and son wanted to play. We went and sat in the bar and nothing was happening. We finally asked a staff member who was sitting there chatting with another staff member if this was were the Wii games were. She said yes and then set it up. It really should have been set up for when we got there. After it was set up and a few people that did not go onshore that day joined us and we had a lot of fun bowling and golfing. Bar was closed so we had to golf "dry" The bar would have made a profit. 3. The bar.... There is not many staff in the bars for the amount of people. They need to get more staff or add a dedicated customer line and bartender for that line ONLY at the bar. We can grab a drink and sit down. 4. Its again a people respect thing but at peak times like Breakfast and Lunch it is already hard to find a table. Yet people were sitting in the Horizon Court or just outside of it under the pool deck balcony playing cards, reading, checking thier tablets, playing games, etc. There are a lot of tables at the other end of the pools. Near the Mermaids Tail Bar. This area should maybe be designated for reading, games, etc during peak meal times. The same goes for the padded lounge chairs under the MUTS. NEVER once got a chair there. All covered with towels, blankets or books. But not people. ITs like the cruise lines have to also point out the respect rules same time as MUSTER. 5. And lastly.... lay off the pushing of the Shopping. I will either take another cruise or buy a piece of Effy Jewelry. My budget does not cover both! I chose another cruise over a $2000.00 ring. It was a bit disheartening to try and see any entertainment in the Piazza as seating there is VERY limited and we couldnt even stand along the railings on the floors above and look down because the area was full of tables with the stores selling the normal, rings, watches, chain, jewlery sets, etc. TACKY PRINCESS. Really tacky! Move the tables over against the stores like it used to be! We did miss the Port of Grand Turk and ended up with an extra sea day after the Captain recieved a distress call from a Catamaran and the US Coast Guard for us to respond. With so many people on the ship an extra sea day, the ship was running out of Garnish, not food, just limes, etc. Drink decorations. The staff were very apologetic and I kept telling them it is ok. It would happen and it actually makes me happy that we saved someone and a drink with lime is just not as important as a life! I did feel sorry for all the staff. For some it would have been a day off but they had to all pitch in and serve the needs of the passengers of which we tried our best to not be needy. The Captain of this ship is a VERY talkative Captain and he kept us very well informed of the rescue with continual updates. As well as during the day, he would come on and mention things. Overall, I would recommend this ship and its crew to anyone who wants to experience the wonders Princess has to offer! Read Less

Overall, we enjoyed the last minute 4 night cruise to Turks and Caicos, but there were some hiccups. Embarkation was flawless. Arrived at the pier at 1:30 and on the ship at 1:45. Disembarkation was a disaster... more later We chose anytime dining and regretted it every evening. Tables for two were hard to come by and the quickest quoted wait time was 20 minutes. We experimented every evening with a different walk-up time but the wait was a given, and an annoyance. Trying to book the "limited number of reservations" available by phone was hopeless. We ate in the up-charge steak restaurant one evening and enjoyed it. Food and service were great. As penthouse suite guests we were eligible to eat breakfast at the steak house and did so twice. Service and food were fine. Both times the place was deserted. All other meals were at the buffet and the food was acceptable but predictable. Very run of the mill dishes and, surprisingly, notably inferior to the NCL cruise we did in September. Princess does not do buffet stations like other cruise lines (Mexican, Chinese, etc) so everyone wandered through the buffet line grazing. And, inexplicably, half way through the cruise they switched the entrance and exit paths so that one entered at the deserts and exited at salads and breads. Downright silly. Buffet attendant service was efficient and friendly Cabin attendant service was first rate: prompt and efficient. Front office service was the best we've ever seen. The young lady was a joy to deal with. Bar service was a mixed bag. The bartenders were always fast and knowledgeable but at the "busy times" (pool area at afternoon for example) there weren't enough of them. One guy serving a bar with walk ups as well as several waiters just can't handle the traffic. It was the same experience at the International Cafe coffee and pastry bar in the Piazza. Sometimes service was perfect, other times you simply waited for her to catch up. There were quite a few positives, of course. Every employee we met was smiling and cheerful. The ship has just undergone a refurbishment so virtually everywhere was shiny and new. The entertainment was good with the comedian being top notch and hilarious. (Entertainment is always subjective so I don't place much weight on reviews) The real problem with the trip was disembarkation. We were the second "walk off" group with a scheduled 7:30 disembark. We actually walked off the ship at 20 minutes to ten. We were at a different pier than normal (true), slow to get the ship docked (maybe true), problems with the gangways (huh ?), problems with Customs (doubtful) and the list goes on. It was a terrible way to end the cruise. I realize that some of these issues were flukes, and I would sail Princess again, but the polished, slightly upscale image they want to project was absent. We have been dealing with water damage from a rain storm and needed a quick getaway. We found this to be a relaxing trip. Not much to really see and do in Grand Turk, but a walk along the beach and some conch fritters at Jack's Shack fit the bill nicely. We relaxed so much doing what we wanted to when, that we never made it to the dining room. Skywalker's elite evening munchies were enough for us. We did the buffet or Intl Cafe the rest of the time, or morning room service. As always, we met many, many nice fellow cruisers from all over. Disembarktation a nightmare, poor planning on behalf of Border Security and Princess. Extra time to get off and VERY long customs lines, over an hour. Due to the lateness, our Ft Lauderdale tour w drop off in Miami was shortened, which was ok, as it began to rain and one of the sites over hyped anyway. Read Less

First cruise with Princess after using many, many other lines. Getting on wasn't bad, but getting off was a long, waiting nightmare. Theoretically there are people who will clear away unused deck chairs, but in four/five days we never ONCE got to sit on the deck: people would come up at dawn and throw a towel across a couple chairs and then never return. There is apparently a very loose dress code for dining; worse, it is unevenly applied. Some clothing passes, almost identical clothing doesn't. The waiters in the dining room were incapable of getting ANY order right. We finally gave up. Ordered a 'late harvest' wine ($4), instead got a port, which we sent back. Showed up on the bill as over $11. Complained, they reduced the price to $6, which of course was still wrong. The room steward was mostly efficient, but was uneven in what he left in the room, sometimes washcloths, sometimes not, never vacuumed; but he did leave a large wet towel hanging on the door for three days. Entertainment was lame, and tour organization was chaotic, barely made it to the "Trolley Tour," a total ripoff. For two, $50--consisted of a quick cramped ride to look at a salt pond, then a roadside geegaw sale, then quickly back to the ship for another load without stopping for even 10 seconds to let anyone TRY to get off a picture--not that there was much to see. Our fault for going to Grand Turk. Don't bother. Read Less

My wife and I booked this trip for her birthday. Shortly after we booked it the real bad reviews came out and we almost cancelled the trip. Glad we did not. The ship is beautiful and the crew is very good. Oh yeah you will run into one that may be having a bad day but really they do a great job to make you feel like your on vacation. Got on board very easy and room was ready early. Spent the afternoon exploring the ship. We sail on Ruby so this was very familiar. While sitting by the pool a crew member told us about the maitre d' wine tasting, he said it was a one time opportunity to experience some very expensive wines. We booked it and here is some advice. At $25.00 each its a waste of money. They try but each speaker is very hard to understand as english is not their first language. The wine samples were small, take my advice - skip this one and go to Vines and if your lucky Cherry will be there. She is hands down the best crew member on board! Had interior room and was fine. A/C was jusssstttt good enough. Could have been colder. Shower water was great and room steward was very good. Food - now here is the issue. Buffet was never good, breakfast, lunch or dinner. It was cafeteria grade at best and a lot of it was cold and poorly prepared. The main dining room was slow and just ok. We like to eat well on a cruise ship and maybe if you went to a pay dinner you might find it but we choose not to pay extra. Pizza was as always very good. MUTS was good - however people reserved chairs for that and the pools with a towel and book. The crew should monitor this and it's a problem on all ships (Just me Venting). So all in all the ship and crew are very good, the people in charge of the food are really letting down the ship and the crew. Both deserve better from the kitchen. You must go to Vines and enjoy wine and tapas. International Cafe is ok for a light snack. Bar service overall was good. When the bar is slammed just go to the next bar for quick service. All the bars on board are good. Getting on and off the ship was as good or better than any ship we sailed before. I would recommend this ship to anyone, however there is not a lot for the younger sailors on board to do. Entertainment was not that great. Cruise Director was never around, but thinks he's a TV star as he and his girl are on TV every morning trying to sell you something. Some advice for him would be get better acts booked and get out with the people. One guitar act was so bad about 3/4 of the people left after 2 songs. Not many classes or seminars either on this cruise. Read Less

We just got back from the 5 night first portion of this cruise and we had a great time. The cruise was very rough for several days, however, we just carried on and had a great time. We are not drinkers, so please do not look for booze facts here, except the free sampling of rum products in Ocho Rios at 9 am was nice. Service was great, we had a wonderful cabin Steward, Allan, who made sure we had plenty of ice, fruit and towel animals in our cabin. Travel to Port Everglades: We drove for 3 days through beautiful weather to get to Florida and enjoyed our time together. This was part of our first vacation in 23 years without kids. Hotels in Ft. Lauderdale: We stayed at my wife's father condo in Pompano Beach and had some fun times with the in-laws and cousins who were waiting to go on the same ship but 1 week later. Embarkation: Embarkation was quick and easy, from the time we got dropped off at 1 pm until we dropped off our carry-ons in the cabin until we were eating in Horizons Court was about 25 minutes. Shore Excursions: Due to rough seas, Georgetown in the Grand Caymans was off limits, so we were put ashore at an alternate pier and the tenders were not easy going. I had hurt my back prior to the cruise and re-hurt it getting onto the tender from the ship. Still a great time was had with the sister in law and visiting her at Seven Mile Beach. Thank you Princess, we have already started our search for next years' cruise. Read Less

Just arrived home from a 5 night cruise on the Emerald, departed Feb 6, 2016. The ship is lovely, the food just ok, entertainment we gave a D. The best place for wine lovers is Vines..go see Cherry..she is a wonderful host and very hard worker. We were in cabin A533, first time in an inside cabin and it was great. New comfy beds, clean, cabin steward did a good job, no a/c or plumbing problems. Bathroom is very small but we managed. Be sure to bring your own hairdryer. The 70's night party was fun and the Rat Pack Show on the last night was wonderful but lasted 30 mins?? Love Muts but all other entertainment was very poor. Tried room service for breakfast a few days and could never get hot coffee. Tried to get reservations in the Crown Grill the last night and no one at the restaurant to take the reservation. Called the number three times, got put on hold, then no one answered. Spoke to three people who work on the ship and no one could tell us what to do. Yikes! So we gave up and did not go. Getting off and on the ship was easy, very fast, organized. Go to the port at 11 and walk right on-board in about 30 mins. This was our sixth cruise, the Ruby was much better. We will probably try Princess one more time...either the Regal or the Royal hoping for better food and entertainment. Read Less

We took this short trip in order for us to up-grade our status from Ruby to Platinum - we've booked a 25 day that includes 11 country's cruise, we thought the Platinum would come in handy. Haven'n previously been to Grand Cayman and enjoyed it. So we booked an inside cabin R 240 cause the $ were very reasonable and not only did we enjoyed it but also found it to be great accommodations. Everything was went great, even including our stop at the wine table. Lines were short and we walked on board in less than 30 minutes. We experienced good food and service at main dining as well as the buffet. The dining experience in Crown Grill was excellent. Really enjoyed the movies under the stars. Departure time was less than 30 minutes UNFORTUNATELY..... ..............Now to the rest of the story. The night prior to departure I went to bed wearing my hearing aids so I removed them by putting them on the lamp stand next to the bed ---- and I walked off the ship leaving them. In short a $ 900.00 reasonable up-grade cruise turned into an expensive $ 6000.00 one. Of course I have contacted Princess Lost & Found and filled a report so far nothing, but they tell me that the chances of my seeing them again are about million to one. Expensive lesson learned just thought I'd pass it on as a FYI and don't do what I did - make sure you check your state room before leaving ship. Read Less

My husband and I have sailed with princess 5 previous times and the 6th did not disappoint. Our other cruises, all were 7 days, and this one was a bit shorter at only 5 days. Prior to departure, I read the reviews here and now felt compelled to write. We traveled with 2 other couples, all 35-45 years old. From getting on the ship to disembarking, the staff was fabulous. Our room steward always managed to sneak in and tidy up each time we left, and although we didn't get cute little towel animals on the bed as previous cruises, our room was always in tip top condition. Dinning, we chose anytime and oddly, never did make it to the dining room. One night that was our intent and the line was very long so we sought our other options and went to the Salty Dog for dinner. What a treat... staff was super friendly, courteous and the food was good. Our waitress (Nelsi) even offered tips for those in our party experiencing sea sickness and even checked with us the following day to see how they were doing. We took in the comedian, qwest game, trivia, newly wed game, bingo and some of the bands and played in the casino. All were entertaining and with some, we were part of the entertainment. The bar staff was fabulous, our favorites Samir and Prasad... look for them, they are worth the time it takes to find them and they certainly made our trip more enjoyable! The worst part of the entire trip was witnessing some guests being rude to staff and making them feel below them. Honestly, these people do an amazing job to accommodate all walks of life, all levels of society and somehow manage to keep smiling. If you treat them with respect, you will see how incredible they really are! Read Less

We sailed on the Emerald Princess from Ft Lauderdale 1/23/2016 - 1/30/2016 into the Western Caribbean with stops in Grand Cayman, Roatan, Cozumel and were scheduled for a stop at Princess Caye but that was aborted due to weather. The cabin was typical for a Princess balcony room, the beds had been recently replaced and were comfortable (although too soft for my taste but that is a personal issue). The cabin steward was helpful and provided good service. This was a "theme cruise" for us and about 750 of the total passengers with Concerts At Sea. We had private (for 750 people) entertainment shows with Gary Lewis, The Cowsills, Bill Medley and Paul Revere's Raiders as well as private access to Club Fusion in the evenings (and Skywalkers) for dancing and music. I highly recommend checking into the Concerts At Sea offerings, they are done once a year and have been going for 23 years now. The food on every Princess cruise I have taken since my first in the late 1990's has steadily gone downhill ... where initially there was boiled shrimp at every buffet for example now it is only available in the dining rooms and is of pretty poor quality. The Horizon Court offerings (except for breakfast which has maintained a very good offering) is "adequate" at best and really very "institutional". Except for the Salsa & Salsa excursion in Cozumel (which was good) we booked our excursions independently as we always do and I believe get better value in every case.. Read Less

I have been on the Emerald a few years ago. With the Ruby, they were me favorite ships. The only physical changes was on the Restaurant site. Sabatini is no more, sniff. It was replaced with a higher prices Share Restaurant. They also added an extra price Salty Dog Restaurant venue in the Wheelhouse Bar ? The entertainment is continuously going downhill at Princess, there was one decent show in the theater, most other things were 30 min stints. There were some other music based groups on the ship with a lot of private functions at Fusion. The entertainment and Seminars by the Art Department were very good. The Cabin Stewart was doing a very good job. I did not have a problem with the food in the dining rooms. Horizon Court was a different story. I found the selection very limited for lunch. Wraps they were like cardboard, cold eggs for breakfast. It is absolutely not understandable, that most "Cooks" don't know how egg dishes should be cooked, including Crown Grill for breakfast. The "Cooks" should watch some cooking shows on TV to learn something. This is the situation with every cruise, there is obviously no supervision from the top. We had 2 excursions with Princess, one in Cozumel, which was OK, but too much travel. The other one in Fort Lauderdale with the Everglades, which was a complete wast of time and money. The only people in Fort Lauderdale who did not beg for tips were the Taxi drivers, other than that, it is worst than in a third world country, I mean those people get paid for what they do. Disembarkation in Fort Lauderdale was a disaster as well. We were an hour late to get off the ship because the US Customs was staffed by 4 to 5 Officers for a 3000 passenger ship. If Princess can't assure that US Customs have enough personnel, they should change the port or the country. Read Less

I am Elite on Princess and this was without a doubt my least favorite cruise. I am usually very understanding and forgiving but this cruise caused me to wonder if I really want to continue with Princess. Embarkation: We were traveling with a sight impaired person and embarkation was awful! Had to sit and wait in line for wheelchairs and there were only 2 available. After 1-1/2 hours, I finally threw a fit and we were allowed to walk in with another group. Cabin: we had been offered to change from OV to interior cabin less than 24 hrs before boarding for a 50% discount, which we accepted. However when we boarded, the name tag was not changed and they had no idea who we were, had no minibar or other Elite perks. Did not get any of our mail. Room steward never replaced beach towels, soap or laundry bags all week. We kept trying to find her to get these things. Our phone did not work - it took 4 days for them to fix it. Patter was frequently not delivered until the morning. Dining: anytime dining - we never had to wait for a seat, but food was mediocre, warm and the service was as slow as I have ever seen. Breakfast in the dining room was terrible, again - mediocre warm food. Horizon Court: terrible service - I had to bus my own table to get a seat and then had to get my own coffee and juice. Passenger Services: we stood in the Elite/Suite line served by one person. The regular passenger line served by 3-4 people went fast and we stood there waiting for someone to help us. They also never answered the phone. Elite Cocktail Lounge in Skywalkers: could frequently not find seating because they did not card anyone and let everyone in - people were bragging about getting in and telling all their friends. This is one thing we always enjoy and it was ruined. Debarkation: long lines as always, people getting their luggage butting in line instead of going to the end; and why do they never have enough customs people? Now any one or 2 of these things would be nothing, but all this - something annoying every day on a short 7 day cruise - was very disappointing. The good: Pizza poolside as always, Crown Grill - food and service, great bartenders in Crooners Read Less

We cruised before with Royal Caribean twice, Celebrity and Holland America,it was our first and last with Princess. There is so many bad things about this cruise, but I will make a list: Good things: -A lot of staff at the buffet area and at the pool, we were never without help -The enviorement it is very casual, wich we liked -Restaurants are open all the time from 6:00a.m to midnight -Nice selection of movies all over the day and night, at night they serve a delicious popcorn -Some good music -Very friendly staff Bad things: -The ship is big but, the public areas are very small wich makes all places pack all the time -The bathrooms inside the cabins are ridiculous small, wich makes a shower very unconfortable (I'm 5'4" and 120 lbs...)my husband is 5'9" and 180 lbs....he use to go to the spa to shower... -The WC at the pool area were always very dirty -There are 5 restaurants for lunch, breakfast and dinner, but they look exactly the same, wich makes you feel you are all the time in the same place... -The food was horrible, but realy bad,did not taste too bad but had too much fat,a lot of grease, and the quality is horrible, not fresh, you could tell that was made many hours before or even a day before...and the presentation was worse...I felt sick on the first day of the cruise after lunch and could not eat for almost 3days... -Dinner time was a nighmare, terrible waiters, rude guys with only few good ones wich save 3 nights(We asked to repeat one of them), we felt we were at Mac Donald's,very bright lights, very loud waiters, you could see them throwing the rest of the food from other tables alway, they do it in front of you, wich was very disgusting,I could not believe what I saw...never saw it in a cruise. -We did not relax,I was crazy to go back home Read Less

Having been on a couple cruises before, with Carnival, we expected a lot more from Princess than what was delivered. Signed up for the basket of fruit in our room everyday, received exactly 2 baskets for the 8 days aboard. Water ran to the hot side only in our cabin. Cabin was small! Food on the buffet was on par with Golden Corral Country Buffet. The fruit selection included overripe pineapple, cantaloupe, honeydew, pears, apples and occasionally grapes. No tropical fruits! Dining seating was slow, service usually slower with a fine looking menu but something lacking in delivery and flavor most times. Service was way sub-standard with the notable exception of our room steward. We even watched staff walk over trash and not pick it up, even over hearing a few say "not my section". The huge screen, outdoor movies were fun except for all the paper trash swirling constantly across deck, landing on you and just generally distracting from the experience. With the lack of service, dirtier than expected decks, the ants in the public bathroom, we made the best of it and enjoyed ourselves and the many, many cruisers we met! Read Less

Sailed in The Emerald Princess for a Christmas cruise. The ship overall was looking nice after 1 13-day dry dock in December - new mattresses in the cabin were great. However, the drapes in our cabin were filthy and soiled. And after two days, the knock at the door - they had to replace the shower head - couldn't be done during dry dock? The staff behavior ranged from indifferent to exceptional. We had an outstanding cabin attendant. Many of the staff just don't understand English. As for food - the MDR was acceptable; the Horizon Court not so much. The Horizon Court buffet ranged from mediocre to pretty bad, on all three meals of the day. Mid-cruise - - no more bananas! The new restaurant, Share, is nothing compared to the hype bantered about it. Certainly not worth the $39 up-charge. Princess has IMHO become just another cruise company - nothing really special. We even had a "juggler" for a main show that couldn't juggle! The Lounge entertainer, Kory Simon, is the brightest light of entertainment on-board. Read Less

I would like to start out by saying I had several recomendations to sail a Princess cruise line but I was not happy This is detailed list of all my disappointments from the start to finish on day 1 check in went well as we got our room key and the agent told us that we have the sticker for our drink package that I paid for online My wife and I went to the room then went to get a bite to eat, after getting our food we brought it over to the pool bar and ordered a drink and was told that we did not have the drink package, we were told to go to the customer service desk to get it fixed, well that took almost 1.5 hours to fix it. My question is why did I order it online? Our room steward Fernando greeted us when we first got there, he asked us if everything was ok and I told him that it was hot in the room, he checked the air conditioner and agreed that it was hot and he would take care of it when we went back to the room to unpack it was still hot so I called customer service and they said they would take care of it next we went to brush our teeth and we only had hot water so I called and told customer service when we came back to the room after dinner there was a card on the thermostat that said the issue was resolved it was not still very hot so I called again our first night in the room was very hot and uncomfortable the next day I called again and complained about 3 times, every time we went back to the room we had to go back to the room every time we had to go to the bathroom because the men's and ladies bathrooms by the pool either did not work or did not have water to wash our hands (that was the case every day of the cruise) each day there was either an out of order sign or under maintenance sign put up on many of the bathrooms through out the ship at the pool area I noticed on the bottom of my feet that there was paint speckles from the floor, and the paint that did not seem dry the entire cruise the air did not work in the room it was about 10 degrees cooler in the hallway than our room at one point when maintenance came to the room he said they are having problems but to keep the curtains closed at all times (what is the cense of getting a balcony room if you have to keep the curtains closed?) on formal night we got dressed up even though it was hard because with no cold water and no air we could not cool down I went to use the bathroom next to the dining room and used the urinal, the urinal next to me overflowed on my dress shoes I was totally disgusted at that point I saw Captain Marcos and told him of my problems and concerns and he just walked away from me with out even asking me my name or my room # we were shocked to say the least, here was the Captain of the ship and I was making a complaint and he walked away another concern that we had was the inexperience of some of the staff one time my wife ordered a Pinot Noir glass of wine and the waiter asked if she wanted an olive in it, another time she ordered from another waitress a cosmo and I ordered a Grey Goose and tonic with lime, 5 minutes later a waiter came back to get our order because she did not understand what we ordered we had 5 nights on the ship that we had no air and no cold water one night we went to the upper decks and feel asleep on a lounge chair for a few hours just to get some sleep the Internet that we paid for in advance did not work in our room and only seemed to work at the Internet cafe I feel that the ship was in dry dock and not ready to sail because we had issues before we left Fort Lauderdale and that is one of the reasons we sailed late The main reason I am making this review that all of us work very hard in our jobs no matter what we do and we like to reward our self with a vacation, we save up time, money, plan who is going to take care of the children and the house and the pets while we are away. We make all our travel reservations, airport parking, plane, hotel and car reservations all to go on a cruise to a great place. We do all our homework and pick a cruise line and ship that has good ratings all to be so disappointed. I talked to several couples that have traveled on Princess and they all said that this was the first time that they have experienced anything like what some of us had experienced on this cruise. Princess did give me a partial credit to use at a later date so we booked again, I had to cancel due to I am disabled and I needed surgery. I went to book another cruise and my credit was taken away because I did not use it on time. I contacted Princess and was told that they will not give me my credit. I was very upset after the cruise but since they gave me a credit I did not post anything but after taking my credit away I am posting all of my complaints. I would not step foot on another Princess cruise nor would I tell anyone to cruise with them Read Less

Having sailed with Princess before this cruise was disappointing. First steward I was assigned to needed to pay more attention on how he cleaned the cabin. 2nd steward assigned to my section for the last 3 days of the cruise was decent. The food and entertainment repeated itself on the 2nd half of the cruise which was disappointing and left certain evenings with not much to do since the entertainer Domino and Cory Simon was less than desired to be heard. The food at lunch in the horizon court was hit or miss and nothing to rave about breakfast was lousy. The fixed dinning at Boticelli was good but again menu repeated the 2nd half of the voyage. Wait staff service at the Horizon was lousy and some of them understood very little english and you needed to repeat yourself. The Crown Grill steaks was not very good, my mom's filet Mignon was burned top and bottom and the side dishes were lousy. We hardly ate much, when we complained to the waiter he said that was the way it was. Sabitini's was good service and the food was good. The only little fun was the afternoon trivia with the cruise director's staff. If you were not a regular at Crooner's or they knew you did not drink much they paid little attention to you. Int'l cafe was good but how wrong can you go with coffee and dessert. Trident Grill hamburger and Knockwurst was good and the pizza was also good. The ship is going into dry dock and it needs a fixing and ripping down Sabitini's to put in the restaurant Share by Curtis Stone I don't how well that is going to go over not something I would pay for Read Less

I was very pleased with the Emerald Princess 5-day cruise to Cozumel and Costa Maya. The staff was outstanding, as they worked so hard and very incredibly friendly as they served our every need. The entertainment was a blast, and even rain at the ports didn't stop a great day. I found some great snorkeling on my own at both places. We utilized Tropicante in Costa Maya and The Money Bar in Cozumel, along with a tour at the Kaokao factory. The food was out of this world good. My only complaint was the meals in the dining rooms took a long time (1.5-2 hours), though the food was worth it. The pizza was homemade and tasted like it...very yummy. I didn't know what to expect as a first time cruiser, but I was pleasantly rewarded with an experience that exceeded my expectations. The staff service had a lot to do with that. Read Less
