My husband and I went on a cruise that will always be memorable. The cabin was very spacious, our cabin steward was phenomenal and the dining was yummy! We had a midship balcony cabin and Michael Viernes our cabin steward always was attentive and provided excellent service. We purchased the 5 dinner specialty dining and it was excellent. When we dined in the main Summer Palace dining room, we always asked for Kamilla . I do not recall her last name but she was excellent. She always went out of her way and knew what we needed/wanted. We dined at the captain's table and that was a real treat!!! Captain Schiaffino is extremely personable and always made a point to say hello as he passed the passengers. The entertainment was good and the length of time for the shows was perfect. Ports and excursions were well planned. We normally do not purchased excursions, but this time we did due to the nature of our cruise. I would definitely go back on this ship with this crew...they made my trip a wonderful experience. This was our first cruise. We would have rated the cruise as a 4+ out of f5 but for one major issue. More on that later. I would say the cabin itself (ocean view) was what we expected: Unobstructed view, clean, large enough, etc. The food was pretty good, and much better than that in the specialty restaurants. The dining upgrade was worth having. The entertainment was also good, actually better than we expected. The staff was great, wonderfully pleasant throughout. But... You do not want to find yourself lodging on Deck 5, Rooms 5602 - 5610. That was an unmitigated nightmare (or whatever the term is when you are wide awake but going through an agonizing ordeal. Picture yourself in an Airstream trailer. Now picture someone whacking the side of your trailer with a metal bar, and then beating the trailer with a smaller utensil for about ten seconds. Then picture that happening every night from about 1:00 a.m. until 5:30 a.m. There were actually a variety of noises throughout the trip, each unique, but unbelievably loud and inconvenient. Guest Services staff, an engineer and others came down to figure out the source and/or a solution. Couldn't figure it out. Sound apparently moves in mysterious ways in metallic boats. We couldn't be moved, even to an interior cabin, because the ship was filled to the brim. We finally advised Guest Services we would need to leave the ship in Corfu (Day 4), but we were then advised other guests were disembarking in Corfu, and we could use that room to sleep in. Didn't actually happen until the next day, but from Day 5 - 10 the zombie nightmare was over. My real issue with NCL is the apparent duuplicity. Staff is very sympathetic with the situation; they acknowledge it is unbearable. The manager even offers that these rooms should not be used by guests because, unless you purchase a drink package and faithfully indulge throughout the night, I really don't think you can sleep through that level of noise. (My comments about the drink package. He just indicated these rooms should not be made available to guests). They did provide $400 in shipboard credit, which is enough to purchase 52 bottles of water, but we were assured that when we contact the corporate office in Florida, everything will be made right. I did contact the NCL corporate office, and I was advised that "noise is subjective," so it turns out it was really just my (and my wife's) sensitivity to noise that was the problem. She missed going ashore on two of the first four stops because of a lack of sleep. The guests in rooms 5602 and 5606 would disagree with NCL's assessment, as we commiserated over our plights on occasion. A couple of us even recorded some of the noise so we could relive it during daylight hours. Not to sound too cynical, but it appears that the staff is coached to wholeheartedly agree with the guests on all particulars, apparently to avoid the zombies making a scene, and direct the guests to contact corporate, and then have corporate deliver the bad news: Pound sand. Days 6 - 11 were excellent: The food tasted better, the shows were more entertaining, and the shore excursions more exciting. We were just a little disappointed that our sensitivity to sound put a damper on our first five days of travel. Read Less

We have always wanted to travel the Mediterranean. It was nice to get island to island. We got off the boat at every stop and had great tour guides on the excursions we went on. Brittany, a beautiful red haired dancer we ran into several times. She always looked out for us and was so nice. Even made sure we were ok on a very vertical hike. We could have had more time in each location to get some good shopping and local food. We had one bad experience with Santorini. We all got backed up at the tram down the mountain. Many people panicked afraid they would be left behind. There was no clear instructions or anyone reassuring anyone we were going to be ok. Many went for the steps to beat the line. After we heard one lady slipped and broke her ankle. There were kids begging for money as we all were standing in line. It was rushed and unpleasant. The boat staff was sweet and thoughtful. Ludmilla Pagliari greeted us in the morning always smiling. We ran into her at night when we would get coffee and cookies after dinner. Still sweet and still smiling. She would chat with us. A very nice young lady from Argentina. A couple waiters Willy at Crystal Palace and Jerry at O'sheans were great guys. Friendly and attentive. Jerry had great banter. He made us smile. The food was good and we appreciated the fresh fruit in the buffet. My husband really enjoyed the Indian food. I will say the flat bread was delicious. From breakfast to dinner it was good food. One suggestion is to put clocks in the rooms. I know why they are not there but when you have excursions and the time changes you can feel a little out of sorts. Especially when your phone is not working like it should. I learned how to dance about a quarter of the Michael Jackson Thriller dance. We got to see the whole dance at the impersonation show later. It was fun to see Elton John, Tina Turner and Michael Jackson. Every where we went there were steps to get where you were going. The views were spectacular. And after you had steps to go back down. We refused to use the elevators on board and always used the stairs. It was a healthy trip. Always got our steps in and then some. Got home fitter and slimmer. If not just a little. We stayed at Best Western in Rome and Barcelona. Both were excellent. Clean and air-conditioned. The staff were friendly and helpful. Except for the Santorini experience the whole trip was a fun. I would recommend it. Don't get to tied up with always booking something. The islands are navigable. With better time you can really experience the food. It's good and deserves to be appreciated. The coffee is amazing. Not once did we make it to the beach. Just not enough time. My biggest regret. I guess I will have to go back. Read Less
