We chose Scenic as we were looking for a cruise that was 100% all inclusive. It turned out to be the right decision as we never once had to pull out our wallet. The only additional cost was a massage! Scenic lived up to everything we expected. Rooms were excellent and the addition of a small balcony was great on mornings when we wanted room service rather than eating at the restaurant. Food was very good with incredible selection. Tours had enough variety that it appeared there was something for everyone. For people considering a river cruise for the first time here are some pointers that I was not aware of and had I known it would have made the experience even better: 1. Don't take the top deck for a room if you are travelling in the summer. Air Conditioning works better on the lower level. Rooms closer to the back of the boat are louder due to the engine. If you like white noise then they are great. Rooms closer to the front you hear everyone passing your room. 2. Do your research on destinations along the river you are cruising on along with tours. Some of our tours were two hours bus ride before you got to your destination. My assumption was destinations would be a virtual walk off the boat. (I understand the Rhone is more like this). When it was it was a walk off the boat such as Durnstein it was fantastic! 3. Compare docking stops. On the Danube we sailed by Passau. It looked fantastic but Scenic does not stop there...… Viking does. 4. Understand how often you can be up on the sun deck on the river cruise. Depending on low bridges or locks you are limited to just the lounge area below. This is when you really want a balcony ….. or pick a different river. The channel between the Danube and Nuremburg there are many locks. Although interesting we loved being up top so that is a disappointment. 5. On Scenic you would do a tour and the boat would continue down the Danube and you would pick it up later in the day. One day we passed on the tours and enjoyed just cruising. Again look at the schedule..... this may have been my favourite day! Ultimately identify how much you want to be busy or relax and choose the right cruise based on this. 6. Beware that the success of a cruise can be very dependent not only on the staff but also who you have the luck of cruising with. With a minimum of less than 200 people if the group is fun..... you will have fun. We met many ships along our cruise and it became obvious we were very lucky with the group we had. 7. Cruise success is also dependent on whether the water is at the right height. Check months and get some statistics from your travel agents to try and ensure that you will be on the water for 100% of your trip...… or book last minute like we did. Read Less

We booked this on our travel agents recommendation, as we told her that we wanted a 5+ star experience and the best ship/company. Also, this was our first river cruise. We've done about a dozen ocean cruises on various lines. Needless to say we were quite disappointed. Overall the staff on board was great. Super friendly, accommodating and tried really hard. The ship itself is old, dated and really needs a good cleaning and updating. The lounge area was always too hot, and all the hallways and lounge smelled like stinky socks all the time. Our room was booked in October and was one of the last balconies left at that time. It was the one directly next to the engine room and was SO noisy. We used ear plugs, but still never slept for the entire week. The Scenic App was always frustrating and didn't work well. The information given about the tours was always lacking (on the ocean cruises you can watch a TV channel that gives descriptions about the tours so you can decide what you want to do). The food was only okay. For the huge price we paid, we did not feel good value. And again, not a 5-star experience. Felt more like a generous 3-star in our opinion. Read Less

* Scenic river boat cruise from Bucharest to Budapest. * It was nothing short of a nightmare. * We will never set foot on a cruise ship again. * The cost of the cruise was very expensive and I expected there to be checks and balances in place to protect the traveler. ie there was no doctor on the boat to administer to people who got sick. * We were sent 2 Scenic back packs which was a waste of money. I wish we had been asked if we wanted them. * The limo service sent to pick us up and return us from the airport costs 3 times what I could have made the same arrangements for. We did not pay the limo driver directly for this but Scenic would have this built into the cost of the cruise. Again, another waste of money. * Our cabin on the boat was at the back and our bed vibrated while the boat was moving. This made me feel nauseous. * A number of people arrived on the boat sick with a respiratory infection which quickly spread to other passengers. I was one of the people to get sick and spent several days in my cabin sleeping. I was so sick that I couldn't eat or drink at most meals. * When we finally got off the boat in Budapest I had the hotel call me a doctor. He put me on 7 days of antibiotics. Scenic were negligent in not bringing on a doctor to tend to those who were sick. * Every day the cruise director spent an inordinate amount of time patting himself on the back and telling us what a good job they were doing. This was totally un-necessary and a waste of our time. * Also time spent on the buses on the first 2 days of the 'cruise' was excessive. When we asked our tour guide how far we had travelled in the 2 days, he told us it was 500 kms. Never did we think that we had signed up for that amount of motor coach travel. * I'm asking Scenic to step up to the plate and offer us a rebate on what we were charged for this cruise. I feel like I just threw away $11,000 on this cruise and I'm asking for a sizable rebate. I'm NOT interested in any coupons for future travel as I will never set foot on a cruise ship again as I classify them as floating germ incubators. Read Less
