This was our fourth cruise on Celebrity, first on Reflection. Neither my wife nor I had been to Scotland or Ireland so we booked this British Isles cruise, sailing out of and ending in Amsterdam. We did a 5 day precruise stay in the Netherlands on our own. We arrived at Schiphol Airport on Aug 8th. Stayed in Delft 1 night, Bergen 2 nights, and Amsterdam 2 nights. Got a rental car at Schiphol Airport and drove straight to Delft. When we got to Amsterdam we checked into the hotel (Apollofirst Boutique, nice place) and then returned the rental car to a location near Vondelpark. On the morning of the 13th we took an Uber from the hotel to the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam. I have to comment on our experience at the PTA with Celebrity. Sorry to say, but it was very poor. We booked a Sky Suite. We had completed the online boarding forms before we left home and had the boarding passes on our phones. We did not have much of a wait to talk to a check-in agent, but when he got our names he started to ask us questions that we already had answered in the online boarding forms. He had to call somebody to have our SeaPass cards made and we stood there for about three more minutes doing nothing until the cards arrived. Nobody asked to scan the boarding passes on our phones. And the SeaPass cards that this guy had made for us indicated that we had no perks at all. We discovered this about 20 minutes after we boarded the ship, we went to Luminae for lunch and the waiter pointed this out to us when he asked to see our SeaPass cards. It was very unsettling. We went straight from lunch to Michael's club where they immediately printed us correct SeaPass cards. But to summarize, Celebrity's boarding process in Amsterdam is a VERY poorly run operation. I'm not going to use Amsterdam as a departure port any more. Now to the cruise itself. I'll be brief, but see below on the cabin review. The ship and cabin (1688, Sky Suite starboard aft corner Deck 11) were clean and well maintained. Entertainment in the Reflection Theater every night was good. We didn't do any of the other activities that the ship had going on. We did supper mostly in the Luminae restaurant. Food there was mostly good, sometimes a little foofy or too spicy for me. Service in the Luminae was slower than what I remembered from the Luminae on other ships. And they forgot to bring the drinks that I ordered a couple of times. I got the impression they must be understaffed. On the bright side, I let the Luminae hosts know that one of the cruise nights was my wife's birthday, and they bent over backwards to put us at the table she wanted and bring out a birthday cake and sing Happy Birthday that night. We did the ship's shore excursions in every port. The highlight was the Giant's Causeway tour out of Belfast. The lowlight was the Conwy Castle and Wales tour out of Liverpool. Conwy Castle and Conwy Town were fine in the morning, but the tour bus spent all afternoon just driving through Wales and that got pretty boring. We were disappointed in one aspect of our cabin, see the review below. My impression of Celebrity as an organization changed for the worse due to the cabin experience and the check-in experience. They don't tell you some things you really need to know about the some of the suite cabins, and I think it's intentional. Being a British Isles cruise, the weather for about 9 of the 12 days was overcast and drizzly. We were fortunate to have 2 or 3 days of sunny to partly cloudy skies, and an hour or two where there were little patches of blue sky sometimes on the overcast days. This kind of weather is something you have to adjust your expectations for and bring proper clothing and rain gear - especially if you carry a DSLR camera around with you like I do. To summarize - it was a great trip, we went to great ports and saw some very impressive sights, and I'm glad we did it. But there were a couple of glitches on Celebrity's part that were not insignificant. Read Less

As usual, Celebrity delivered excellent food and service on our recent Baltic cruise. Embarkation and disembarkation were smooth and efficient. Our balcony cabin was larger on the Reflection than on past Celebrity ships. The layout was great and the extra space was appreciated. The entertainment was good, but not spectacular. We have become comfortable with the fact that if you want big productions, try Celebrity's sister line - Royal Caribbean. Rob Lewis, a Phil Collins tribute act, was great. The service in the Opus restaurant was exceptional - as was the food. I can't imagine what our waiters and sommelier could have done any better. We did have dinner in the Tuscan Grille one evening and it was a disappointment. Three of us ordered steaks. Two were too rare and one was overdone. By the time we got one steak redone, everything was cold. We paid $45 each and wished we had eaten in the Opus dining room. The ship is fabulous. Although we were with 3,300 other guests, the ship never felt crowded. There are enough small areas (library, Hideaway, etc.) that we could always find some quiet places when we desired. We toured Berlin, Helsinki, St. Petersburg, Tallinn and Stockholm with TJ Travel Tours. All were great experiences. Our guide in St. Petersburg was Natasha and she worked very hard for two 10-hour days. Her knowledge of Russian history was exceptional. She was old enough to have lived under Soviet rule, so she also had an interesting perspective on the czars, the Soviets and on life after the fall of the Soviet Union. We toured Copenhagen on a Celebrity tour, since TJ was not able to form a group there. The guide was knowledgeable and we got a good feel for the city. Overall, it was a great trip. We were extremely lucky with the weather. We traveled with a couple who had just gotten their first passports and this was their first cruise. We warned them that the Reflection experience will probably spoil them for future cruises. Read Less

We had read so many great reviews of Celebrity so we decided to try them after cruising on three other lines. We were "upgraded" to concierge two days before our cruise. So now our luggage tags were wrong and we had to find a business center to print them when we got to Amsterdam. Concierge is promised priority delivery but our bags arrived much later than anyone else's on our floor. The concierge embarkation area was the same plastic chairs and the only refreshment was a water jug that was empty. Hardly "special" When we arrived in the room, we had documents for another family, all in Spanish, and only two of our excursion tickets. Had to stand in long line at guest.services who didn't seem to understand when I explained the tickets were missing. We never got our invite to the Connections party despite talking to GS and Concierge. Who knows what else we missed. Our stateroom host had another family's name on his list. He was great after we explained to him we were not the Spanish speakers he was expecting. We later spoke to the cruise director and he also had another family listed for our room. Both the cruise director and Concierge said they would address the issue but we still had calls in Spanish coming from staff throughout the week and our daughter didn't get any kids club information either. The coup de grace was when our daughter's charging privileges were disabled and we went to GS for help. The rep pulled up the account and said "everything is fine". We said the charge was just denied upstairs and the rep said she "updated our account" without touching her computer again. When we said she didn't do anything, she said "I can't help you" and stormed away. Another rep came over, consulted with another staff member, updated the charging and ran a test charge. Why the first person refused to help is unknown. But other than Guest Services, the rest of the staff was fantastic. Our serving team was quick and efficient and got our orders right, even having drinks on the table each night before we arrived. The bar staff is incredible. Very fast and friendly, particularly Imade and Budi at the Martini Bar and the staff at the pool bar. The non-Celebrity entertainers skewed old with a lot of swing music. The Celebrity dancers, singers and aeralists were very good and sang a lot of modern music to make up for all the swing. The cruise entertainment staff worked hard to have fun activities but the layout of the ship caused issues with dance parties as the Grand Foyer was not big enough for all of the people who wanted to dance. One other thing to note is events listed in the app and printed dailies are moved or times are changed and the app is not updated. Menus in app were also different sometimes from the actual restaurant menu., Read Less
