We wanted to see the glaciers of Alaska, and Princess provided a good price for this voyage. The inside cabin with obstructed view was very obstructed with rescue boat blocking the whole window (625). The ship on the whole was in good working order. The staff seemed understaffed and Customer Service (Purser) were not on the ball for a billing/corkage charges to our account. Food on the whole was good, except the hot steamers on the Horizon Buffet did not seem to hold the food warm, cold at times. Our cabin was well maintained. Ship clean. The debarking at the ports went well, except it would be nice if the signs directing direction to gangplank might be more informative. Visit to Ketchican was a rainy and the Salmon Fishing trip was cancelled. Both the Junnea and Skagway went well, a lot of interesting scenery. The Train Trip at Skagway was a pleasant way of seeing a lot of scenery and learning some history. The two cruise day in fiords some good weather and some spectacular scenery was enjoyed. It was nice to have Park Rangers sometimes giving a description of the area the ship was in. While not knowing how we were getting to the airport, it was handled smoothly and had tour explanation of the route to the airport and Anchorage. Not giving the trip 5 stars was for the miscues on us by the staff and the cold steamers. Read Less

This was one of the very first cruises my husband and I ever did. We had such great memories of it that we wanted to do it again. Unfortunately, now that we have over 15 cruises with various cruise lines under our belt, Princess has lost some of her luster. This was a land-sea tour and the land part was great, although some of the Princess lodges along the way are in need of new mattresses and updating. The excursions were outstanding with the best being the jet-boating up Devil's Canyon to a Category 5 rapid out of Talkeetna at the McKinley Lodge. The cruise part of the tour was rather a let down. The ship was nice, the excursions continued to be good, but Princess left a lot to be desired. Making a buck every way possible has become more important than customer/passenger service. They nickel and dime you for all it's worth. Water in your stateroom and elsewhere is $2.00 a bottle. The only drinks provided with meals are water, tea, or coffee. You can not leave your stateroom without being accosted by a photographer trying to document... and sell back to you,,,your every move. There is a Princess Shopping Concierge who gives a daily lecture on what jewelry to buy in the next port and the daily Princess Paper contains a daily Shopping Spotlight Newsletter and map showing you the location of her highlighted stores. This is what Princess now does well- bringing in the money. The shows were mediocre. The food was mediocre- in all restaurants. They offer Anytime Dining when you can go to eat any time you desire- not just at the 2 traditional seatings. When signing up, it sounds as though you can eat at any restaurant, including the Traditional one. This is not true. You are limited to only two separate restaurants- the Bernini and the Donatello with the Donatello available only after 7:30. Can't even think of one memorable meal we ate! All and all- this was one of the worst cruises we'd been on. By time you were done with this cruise, it probably would have been cheaper going on an all-inclusive cruise. Very disappointed in Princess! Read Less

Alaska was beautiful and I highly recommend going there. However, I do not recommend the Gold Princess boat. We have previously cruised with Carnival before and had a much better experience than we did with Princess. All of the issues were minor but collectively did not leave a great impression of princess. Here are some issues: -wanted to change our dinner seats so we would be with the people we traveled with. Staff informed us this should be very easy since their table was not full. The line to see the Maitre'D was not long but moved incredible slow and the Maitre'D was not very friendly. It seemed like we were inconveniencing him with a simple request. -Buffet required you to wash your hands before hand, which is very good, but they only had two sink at each entrance so during busy meal times there was always a line to get into the buffet -Spa service was poor. I tried to book a pedicure with the person I was travelling with and we were told it was full so the other lady opted for a manicure. Once there the second pedicure chair was empty the whole time. I found my lady was judgmental and the polish was wrecked the next day, thankfully they did fix this with no issue. -On board entertainment was bad and not many options available. -We were told one of the days would be "scenic cruising" to the College Fjord but we weren't scheduled to get there until the evening so it was really more of a a sea day. We didn't actually end up getting to the College Fjord due to weather. I understand the boat cannot control this but no other on board activities were provided to fill the time. -Room staff were friendly but they missed taking out some used dishes on a few occasions. On a positive, food was delicious, room/bed were very nice, excursions were great and it was a great trip as Alaska was wonderful to see. Read Less
