We wanted to take my Mum who is 84 to see Venice, Rome, Croatia, Montenegro and Athens for her first time. We always choose Costa for value for money. The crew do a great job. Can't fault bar service, restaurant service or care/cleanliness of cabin. The buffet food was great but the physical layout is annoying. Restaurant food fantastic. The ship is badly laid out. The bars and even the specialist restaurants are all thoroughfares making it impossible to relax as people are constantly streaming through. There is a huge upper outdoor deck away from the pools and children but no convenient bar up there if you like a cocktail while you sunbath. We had booked Samsara cabin giving inclusive Spa access. It was a sanctuary we used every day but facilities are co-ed which is very off-putting. Theatre shows we're all amazing and cruise director Sabrina fabulous. Embarkation in Venice would have been a nightmare if we hadn't had priority because of Mum's reduced mobility. Poorly organised and little space. Disembarkation was also a nightmare. They don't explain it in advance that there may be a long time between docking and getting to your taxi. One final point about Costa..... Wait until you are on board to book your internet package. The best value social media package is not offered on the web site and they won't let you cancel your prebooked package once on board to change it. If you take one thing from this review remember Costa offer FANTASTIC VALUE FOR MONEY. Read Less

you think about a relaxed vacasion, fine entertainment, nice cabin, ship in good shape, interesting excursions, see new countries, meet nice people, have a good time? Nothing of all we found at a world-cruis with Costa Luminosa, starting 5. of Januar 19 till now (30.03.19). Explanation: the averig of the guest ist probably 75, that means we travelled with a lot of guests older than 90. Nothing against old people, but that is a special thing, severel in Wheel-chairs, probably 60% of them are sick, and we and almost all the other guests get also sick, for weeks, we called it finally the "Costa sickness", worst cough, fever, inflamed eyes, even people who never get sick otherwise, got sick, mostly for weeks The ship is old and in bad shape, old dirty carpeting, lamps, floors, dishes, we had a "Samsara cabin with balcony", Samsara means you get free entrance to the spa, be aware, maybe you get there some virus there (ist ugly dirty) You want to drink a free coffee at 06.15: bad luck, wait till 07:00 or make one yourself in the cabin (capsules), You want water to drink, you have to buy it, 12 bottle for US 36,-- (packet) You want Internet: you have to buy it, but you will be surpriced, often it is not working and the Connection is so terrible, that I could´dt never open my Banking account, I had to wait for land, Looking there vor a Restaurant and asked for Internet. Looking for a movie at night; you get one (1) per day, there is nothing more The tour plan itself: we got around 60 see-days (from together 112), that means we sit at the ship waiting for the next Landing, sometimes we had 5 see-days on a row, often we had to be at 05.00 p.m. back Ankering: we think Costa wants save Money, so the ship is ankering instead of pear, that causes you wait for the tender boat and the last tender boat is 04:00, There are other 10 Things to write, but ist not worth the time. Now why is my Rating one Point and not sero? The Food is good and the Service People try their best Read Less

First, let me say that it has been a month since we returned from this cruise. Having sailed with three other cruise lines I found Costa to embarkation staff to be somewhat disorganized as it comes to a person with disabilities. It took some time for them to locate a large wheelchair both on embarkation and disembarking. Disembarking was a disaster and I finally had to use a walker because they could not locate a large wheelchair. We were about an hour and half late getting off the ship. I must say the Luminosa is a beautiful ship and the crew members are friendly as one would expect. The production shows were very well done and had gorgeous costuming. I addition they had an Italian tenor that was extremely talented. The stateroom (an accessible balcony) was very nice, good sized and well maintained. The passengers were mainly from Europe and there were many languages being spoken. It was odd, band very welcome, to hear English speakers. Almost all ship's announcements were made in four languages, which made for a very lengthy life boat drill. The food was of average ship fare with small portions except for the pasta course. The dining room at dinner time was very crowded. Our table was set for eight persons, but thankfully after the first dinner we had only six and that was comfortable. At dinner time the buffet is closed which makes for overcrowding in the main dining rooms. And this was without the ship being at full capacity. If you care to drink water you can get it for free at the buffet. However in the dining room there is a charge at breakfast even if your id card says you can have water. At dinner you can have all the bottled water you can drink, if it states WaterUSA on your ship id card. Also if you're used to free iced tea as on other ships you won't get it on Costa. Additionally if you care for lobster, shrimp or escargot Costa does not offer those in the main dining rooms. I also had a problem with the public accessible restrooms. Twice I was interrupted while in the restroom by the automatic door coming open which was embarrassing to me and the lady and man who opened it. This happened the second time after I had reported the problem after the first incident. Additionally another restroom was either always occupied or the auto door was not working even after I reported it. All in all the cruise was ok, but I would not sail Costa again. Their business model is European and not what we are used to in the US. Read Less

Everything negative that I read & worried about never came true. We are Canadians & after Oasis of the Seas last year, Costa did not disappoint. There was lots of water ( jugs of it ) at the dining room table. We could get free water any time in the buffet. I even bought a light that sterilizes tap water for the cruise after hearing the nightmare reviews but never needed it. Our daughter had the room attendant provide 2 wine coolers of ice twice a day to have hers cold. The produce was fresh, always ripe, plenty of it & great the last day same as the first. I have followed a raw diet in the past & it would be easy to do on Costa. Good bang for our buck ...Dec 2013 we paid less than $50 a day per person & got $50 ship credit each besides being upgraded to 4th floor balcony with clear view. The staff totally, absolutely knocked themselves out to be accommodating. Especially at our table we were entertained by magic tricks, jokes & pranks for the kids ..always things like like putting 4 extra desserts in front of them or hiding requested strawberries under piles of ice cream for the preteen. She loves hot chocolate & got all she wanted, made in front of her without asking during every meal for 9 days. Three cakes with names came for father & son birthdays in our family. One lunch we didn't get back in time & at supper the several of the diningroom staff showed emotionally how they had missed us & lots of hugs. Our daughter has lost count of her cruises & after back-to-back cruises all winter her family are quite demanding & accustom to the best of service. It was her first time with Costa as well & she was continually impressed in the dining room. For food, Costa topped my experience with Carnival & Royal Caribbean hands down. Our family during embarkation brought fruit, a lg bottle of soda pop, & electric hair straightener as well as other food through security. They gave each room a good sized fruit cake as gift (Xmas) to take home. One couple didn't know of the room service fee & had a surprise at the end because it is $7 per person even just for coffee or 1 thing. We just carried drinks from the buffet for our room. The moral of the story is if you do room service once in a while at least choose wisely to make it worth while. Mini golf was $5. for 1/2 an hour. 3 D movie with special effect sensory & moving chairs is $8. There was a built in charge of $11 US gratuities per day per person but my daughter & her family had no problem arranging to pay staff on their own. They told Costa on the 2nd day & just signed a waiver. I have Celiac & those passengers on gluten free diet sit with their families in the front of the dining room getting very special treatment. The ship being Italian has great homemade pastas, sauces & pizzas even for me & homemade warm breads, buns, cookies, croissants, cakes & turkey stuffing. Lots of butter. Two complimentary big fruit bowls waiting for me in the room including papaya the first day, also free meal plates delivered to the room & bagged lunches on port days. The food on my special menu was delicious, flavored & presented just so. We all felt as if we were treated very special. Celiacs get free snacks from room service. Breakfast had all sorts of tasty juices, eggs done every possible way with all you can eat bacon & smoked salmon every day. We got some very exotic meals like all you can eat truffles, (mushrooms), foie gras. My family enjoyed plenty of seafood, shrimp, calamari, all you could eat lobster, steak, lamb, ribs etc. There was free wine -all you wanted served twice during the trip to all adults who wanted it & this was aside from any art auction or The only challenge was language barrier but as Costa gains more English speaking passengers cruising the Caribbean, this will pass. For now most people spoke Italian & French with other European languages with some Spanish. Less than 1/5 spoke English but crew & passengers smiled & laughed at our jokes & attempts to communicate with them. This was not because of the wheelchair but when I was off on my own as well. Passenger courtesy was good & no one ever butted in front of me. Our grand kids (12 & 14) were downloading language translators & making friends. Wheel chairs were available & we were allowed to take it on tender & off at ports & even out of the terminal to taxi last day. Very often when crew saw us they took over pushing the wheel chair. Our room was large (we didn't ask for handicapped but, the regular size was plenty large & comfy) The chair folded up fit in the room but it was allowed stored in the hallway as well. We had use of the frig from the first day onward. We didn't do the night shows much but did a craft project on board...they gave us T shirts to paint. My husband & i were greatly satisfied with everything & will recommend Costa & will likely sail Costa again. Thanks Costa for our wonderful vacation !!   Read Less
