Having cruised on Celebrity many times, you can tell that it is not maintaining it's high standards high standard. Although all the ship personnel were wonderful, the ship does need updating. In our cabin we had a sofa where the cushion constantly slipped off. When we mentioned this to our excellent room Stewart, she said a lot of people had complained about it too. My mattress was so lopsided that I had to be careful not to roll out of bed. The food on the ship was generally good. But, i cannot recall on any other cruise that so many things ran out. Four days before the end of the cruise there were no berries available. Three days before the end, we were told that they ran out of honey for tea. Then there were no more lemons - unbelievable. Also, forget the chocolates every night on your pillow. We had one chocolate one night on the pillow and that was it. Otherwise, we loved their Bistro with all the different selections of crepes. Actually, that was our best meal. The shows were great too. The captain, hilarious. He was so funny and accessible. The ports of call were also very nice. I must commend the Canadian cruise terminals. Each one of them had free wifi, was clean and had spacious rest rooms not at all what we are used to in the US.   Read Less

We sailed August 1 through August 8, Celebrity Summit to Maine & Canada. We were DW, DD (17) & DS (15). We are in our late forties. We met up with Sister and Brother in Law and they had two children nearly the same age as our kids. We sat together for dinners in MDR at one table of eight. Embarkation - First time leaving from Bayonne. We left our home around 9:45am and arrived at the Port Rd in about 45 minutes. I was surprised we could not see the ship until we made it all the way to the end of the port road. Arrival at the port looked a bit chaotic as the last of the departing passengers were still there. There were folks directing traffic and we followed directions and pulled into a spot and dropped our luggage with a porter. We then parked the car and from that point on things went smoothly. We were on one of the first busses to the ship. It would be nicer if somehow we didn't need the busses. We were in Waterfall Cafe before noon and the place was nearly empty. We had a nice lunch and our first glass of wine using our premium alcohol package. We liked the package, it was convenient, and I'm fairly certain we received more than our monies worth from the package. We'd get at least a large Evian Water and a couple cans of soda each day, plus the drinks later on in the afternoon through the evening. Our two children 17 & 15 had the premium non alcohol package and that worked out well for them too. My family had two connecting CC rooms on deck 8 (8145 & 8147). The rooms were nice size. Heaven forbid - I did see a couple spots of rust on the balcony AND they didn't bother me one bit! Our room attendant, Christopher, was fantastic. The room was always well kept and he somehow always knew when we had stepped out. The entire staff on the ship was friendly and attentive. Very professional and looked as though they really enjoyed their jobs. Most times I never had to ask for something, I think they would read my puzzled face and figure out what I was looking for. In addition to our room attendant, special recognition goes to Dr Feel Good and the staff at the Mast Bar. We'd visit there (or the pool bar) every day for cocktails in the late afternoon. We had fun joking and laughing with them. By the way Dr Feel Good leaves for his 2 month vacation next week. Meals were ok. The Waterfall Cafe breakfast and lunch buffets were fine, sometimes I'd need to search for something that I would like. But always found something satisfying. Breakfast was the usual. Lunch was ok. The afternoon Sushi was one of my favorite parts of the trip. At least three of the four of us would bring a dish back to the rooms each evening for a light snack before getting ready for dinner. Our first three dinners in the MDR (8:30 seating) were disappointing. The portions were small. A few of our group (we arranged a table of eight with my sister her husband and their two children like ages as our kids) had the steak the first night and they seemed pretty disgusted with the dinner. Our servers were professional, although they never went out of their way. My daughter is a vegetarian, one night she did not care for what was on the menu, asked for something simple and our head waiter said no. I don't recall the details, but was surprised at the lack of effort. Not very friendly, but they did their job. It was actually our assistant servers first week. He made some mistakes, but really tried hard. Our dinner at Normandie was fabulous. Wish we went more than once! Service was top notch as was the food. We had room service breakfast a few mornings. We'd tell them the time we wanted delivery the night before and they would call when they were on their way with breakfast. I enjoyed breakfast on the balcony. Entertainment - We saw Sean O'Shea, not sure what he was, his show was disappointing. Jim MacDonald the real comedian had a very funny and entertaining show! Also, the illusionist was very good. We did not do any of the typical broadway style entertainment, mainly from reading reviews of the shows on these boards. We'd just prefer to take it slow before dinner and not rush for mediocre entertainment. We enjoyed spending some time at Michaels Club a few evenings. Bartender Eleana was always a pleasure to talk with. The piano player was a bit stuffy - we actually got a kick out of listening to the guy talk to the customers like we were little children and he was the teacher. He was a bit condescending. The ports were good. It was our first time ever to Portland, ME. DW and DD enjoyed shopping we all went to Gilberts for lunch. Had their chowder and it was very good. Bar Harbor was our favorite port. We did the free Island Explorer, left from the village green which is about a five minute walk up the street from the port. We off and spent some time at Sandy Beach. It was breath taking. The entire Acadia Park is beautiful. Beware the busses and park itself were crowded. St. John was a quaint port. It was very foggy that day. We walked through the mall and started on the path to the reversing falls before learning a) The walkway further down was closed due to construction and b) due to the tides there really wasn't much to see at the falls. We then spent some time at a delightful Irish Pub (O'Leary's on Prince St about two blocks from port). Say hello to Dave the bartender if you get the chance to stop by. Friendly and informative - a life long St John resident. Halifax was a clean metropolitan city. Being the middle of summer Friday it was crowded along the water front. A few shows going on, lots of people enjoying the beautiful day. We walked up to the Citadel (big hills to climb to get there). It was interesting to see. The casino was fun and generous. My daughter and wife were two of three winners in jackpot bingo and walked away with a nice pot. The gym was a bit small and crowded the few days I was there to workout. I suppose if I woke up earlier, I could have avoided such crowds. There was always a cardio machine available, although the treadmills were all taken most of the time. Disembarkation was efficient. Being CC they asked during the week what time we'd prefer to leave and we were assigned that time. 9am we went to the Cinema for disembarkation and we were in our car heading out of the port by 9:45am. Overall we had a great time. We loved the ship and the staff. We'd sail again on the Summit in a heartbeat. Read Less

We chose the cruise to Maine & Canada as a destination vacation and hope these comments will help future cruisers: STAFF: everyone worked hard to be friendly. Don't know how they manage to be nice to 2000 people every week :o) CLASSES: good floral design talk (how to arrange a rose bouquet); galley tour (interesting to those who hadn't seen a big kitchen operation); ice carving demonstration. Wish they'd had more speakers. FOOD: breakfast - waffles, fold-over cheese pastries (available only one day). lunch - deli turkey and chicken salad sandwiches, orange-creme & chocolate-mousse parfait-type dessert, chocolate dome cake, homemade ice cream & frozen yogurt. dinner - lobster & tiger shrimp, "cigar" dessert, lamb. (also, for some reason they did not offer the casual dining service/menu for supper, just the pasta bar & other buffet items). TOURS: Portland (variety of small gift shops on Exchange St.). Bar Harbor (many shops along Main St., and lunch at West St. Cafe [good blueberry pie & clam chowder, and excellent crab cakes, clams & shrimp cocktail]). St. John NB (horse-drawn trolley moving at a fast clip gave a closeup look at interesting homes & churches, then got off at city market and walked @four blocks [downhill or level] to Steemers restaurant [good fish & chips] near ship dock). Halifax (shortened one-hour stop at lighthouse on Peggy's Cove tour felt rushed; then walked to restaurant along harbor [very long walk, we took a cab back for @$10] aiming for Murphy's but stopped at Waterfront pub/restaurant [excellent but fish & chips for $14] and shopped at Amos Pewter next to Nova Scotia crystal]. SHOWS: illusionist was good fun; nice aerial show. Comedienne used lots of profanity. DEBARKATION: stairs on way to exit not workable for rolling luggage so took elevator going up then riding back down. It was a good vacation and we plan on taking another cruise to New England/Canada in a few years. Read Less

Joke on board was dine there and then go up to the Oceanview to get something to eat. Food better in the cafeteria ! Joke on the ship as the raw lobsters served on lobster night !!! and do not order the Sirloin steak thinner than a cheap hamburger pattie - tasteless you need DNA testing to prove it was beef ( old diary cow that escaped from Burger King ) Cabins were poorly paid out - but shower bigger than Princess Common room windows were FILTHY Common room chairs - stained and worn out. Price Edward island - wonderful Quebec aquarium is a delight Bar Harbor, Halifax, Boston, Portland nice. Sidney NA - stay on board not worth getting off the ship. Many on board were repeat Celebrity cruisers and were disgusted with the food and the condition of the ship. Read Less

From beginning to end,we were totally disappointed! The Cruise Director was way over the top and always hawking for bucks and his staff were rude. We tried to take cooking classes and the cook couldn't speak english well enough for us to understand and the accommodation for the events were awful. We tried to take their crafts classes and again, the staff was rude. We did love the Ilearn classes from Apple. On the food side, we were disappointed and felt it was bland. The service was marginal at best. Billy up in Ocean View was wonderful and our cabin steward was terrific. We agree about the TV - they could get cartoons but the movie channel was awful and heaven forbid if you wanted to see sports or news. They need to get better coverage. The CR didn't want to hear suggestions and never answered our posts as he requested us to give him. They completely ignored the fact that we were in Canadian waters with Canadians on board for their Thanksgiving. We had to ask a wine steward to NOT serve us because his after shave was so offensive. The food was OK - we tried a speciality restaurant and were very disappointed. All they want on this cruise is more and more money - you have to pay for everything and they haunt you to death about it. Give us a break - we want to relax and have a good time, not have to put up with you reaching in our pockets all the time. This was our first and last cruise with Celebrity. Read Less

We didn't have high expectations for a Celebrity Cruise (being our first) however other Passengers who have cruised many time on Celebrity ships as well as others were very disappointed in this particular cruise. Filthy pool areas, ashtrays overflowing, no drink service to speak of (we had to find our own open bar and get out own several times. Buffet tables were hardly bussed and the dishes piled up. We missed a port due to a propulsion problem. The only good thing we can say about the cruise, our cabin was cleaned three times a day and the entertainment was better than OK., We will NEVER cruise on the Summit again!! Read Less

First off, my beloved spouse & I have had 3 previous GREAT cruises on Celebrity Solstice ships (in Aqua Class, because of the great food & service & ambiance, etc.)......just GREAT cruise experiences. So, before this cruise, WE LOVED CELEBRITY. After this cruise, we cancelled a Celebrity Caribbean cruise in January 2015 and may never cruise again....period. This is not intended to be unkind or rude to those who DID enjoy all or part of this cruise---we are very kind, caring, fun-loving, friendly, easy-to-get-along with, conversation-loving, fellow-traveler-loving (met some of the best people ever on this cruise and prior cruises) folks---and incredibly tolerant & patient (lots of parenting experience helped that!). But really, I have to agree with ALL of the pertinent NEGATIVE COMMENTS on previous posts (can't comment on excursions we did not take, of course, or specific personal issues fellow travelers had). This was just a beyond-all-comprehension awful Celebrity cruise experience. Secondly, I want to add to the chorus of POSITIVES ABOUT THE HARD-WORKING & CONGENIAL CREW, especially our wonderful room attendants, especially Santana, the marvelous women who work at the El Bacio specialty coffee cafe (both behind the counter and as servers), and the equally-marvelous women who served drinks at the Rendezvous----reminded us that cruising should be a fun & special experience. Thank you! I won't reiterate all of the negative comments on the general problems with this cruise (read, for example, Nice Cruise, but Celebrity's Halo Has Slipped!, for just one excellent listing of the serious problems many of us experienced on this cruise). I have a small notebook with 12 pages listing specific complaints (most of which my spouse shared with a supervisor at Celebrity HQ when she called to cancel the January cruise---to Celebrity's credit, the supervisor prompted my spouse to talk about each and every concern with the cruise in as much detail as possible----excellent follow-up, showed genuine interest & concern---not sure if it, along with complaints by others, will have any effect on future Summit cruises, but, for Celebrity's sake, let's hope it does. If anyone wants me to list the complaints I will, but they have been adequately covered in the other posts with serious negative comments. In general, we thought the Millenium-class Summit was horribly designed (compared to the awesome later Solstice ships) and much too small & very confusing to navigate; the service, other than by the above-mentioned crew, was beyond-belief uncaring, un-pampering, un-Celebrity-like, unprofessional---some of this was because the crew was obviously overworked and understaffed as to the number of passengers on this cruise, but a lot of it just seemed to be an unbelievable "we don't really care" attitude, as if the normally attentive crew & professional staff decided that this was a good cruise for them to take a breather (and that the head folks on the ship & at Celebrity HQ had given them the go-ahead to do so)---totally bizarre for a major cruise line like Celebrity to allow this to take place, BUT IT DID TAKE PLACE! In addition, the food in the Aqua Class Blue restaurant was mediocre compared to prior Aqua cruises, especially, as one commenter mentioned, the lobster-from-hell, and the set-up & the food & the staff in the general eating area (Ocean View?) was much, much worse (the food was almost inaccessible due to the crazy-huge sneeze-glass-coverings over all of the food areas---just nuts!---normal things like milk dispensers were few and far between (one skim milk dispenser, some of the time---none a lot of the time---sheesh!), dirty plates and silverware just left on tables for the entire length of meals (at all the tables, not just the one you were eating at!), little or no table drink service, some really terrible and often cold entrees, etc., etc., etc. Oh I could go on and on and on. Just a huge, huge, huge disappointment. You get an F Celebrtiy.....thank heavens the weather was great in Acadia National Park (awesome lobster lunch as part of our paid excursion) and the wondrous Prince Edward's Island (Anne of Green Gables country and one of the most delightful & beautiful places on the planet)----those two get A's. Starting a few days into the cruise it became obvious that more and more people were absent from the dining room. Some jumping up from their tables and running out of the room. I overheard a number of people talking about someone in their party getting sick to their stomachs. My roommate starting getting sick. This is a lady who never gets sick. The first management acknowledged anything was wrong was by a letter left in our cabin. They claimed that it only involved 3% of the passengers. But it was pretty obvious that at least 50% of the people were missing from their tables. And the lounges were pretty deserted every night. By this time I was pretty sick, out of the blue, with a terrible cold. My roommate was still under the weather. There were mobs of people waiting at the medical center to get shots or pills for vomiting. According to the CDC, cruise ships do not have to report illness until it was over 3%. We missed some of the stops and were too sick to leave our cabin. Then some people started coming back to the dining room, but others in their party had become sick. The crew was wonderful - the cabin stewards waiting on us - delivering sick food. The dining room staff. There were two nights I ended up the only one at my table, and that's only because my roommate was so sick and crabby, I had to leave her alone so she could sleep. The last two nights we were the only two at the table. Everyone else was sick, either with the Norovirus or the cold. Not only were we both sick for almost a month after we got home, it was reported on Cruise Critic that quite a few people had been sick, or gotten sick with both the Norovirus, or the cold, within a day or two of returning from the cruise before ours. But management hushed it up, and allowed us all to get on and get sick. We have been on many cruises, but this was the worst cruise ever. Celebrity tried to cover it up, but it didn't work. To add insult to injury, we all received a $75 credit to be used within a year. Like we would ever get on that ship again??? Read Less

My husband and I have been cruising many years with many lines. We stayed away from Celebrity as many of our friends had gotten sick onboard with the Noro Virus. We finally broke down when a friend asked us to cruise with them on the Celebrity Summit. What a mistake. We have never had a bad experience on a cruise, fortunately until now. Even if we hadn't gotten the Norovirus, as everyone on board eventually was sick with it, and worse, it was by far the filthiest and poorly run cruise we ever experienced. Everything from dirty cutlery, glasses, paper coffee cups, to not wiping down tables in the buffet or dining room. Staff hygiene is suspect and nasty attitude by every staff member on board. We were led to believe this would be a higher level of service than any other cruise line we traveled with, what a lie! They didn't even have hand sanitizer to use the first few days of our trip, and the wait staff handled everything with dirty hands. We also noticed members of the dining room picking their nose, teeth, etc then handle the cups, forks, etc. We called the cruise line to complain about this and were told there was nothing they could do. Well how about cleaning up and teaching their staff how to have good hygiene? If want to enjoy your cruise, go on another line but do not take Celebrity. OUr Cabin was nice as our steward, but there were many others on board who complained of their rooms not being clean and the steward not cooperative.   Read Less

This was my second cruise with Celebrity. I hated my first cruise with them, which was on the Silhouette in November of 2011, its first cruise out of the USA. I was part of a group, and that was the cruise that they wanted to take, so I figured I would see what Celebrity was like. Even though, as I said, I hated that cruise, the group booked another cruise on the September 22 sailing of the Summit, and I decided to go with them and give Celebrity another chance. Embarkation went very well, and my friend and I enjoyed lunch at the Oceanview Cafe. When we got into our cabin, I was pleased to see that our shore excursion tickets were there in plain sight. A big improvement over the cruise on the Silhouette, when my tickets were nowhere to be found, forcing me to go to the shore excursions desk and wait and wait on line to ask for the tickets that should have been in my cabin. And the shore excursions guy didn't believe me when I said that my tickets weren't in my cabin. He kept telling me over and over and over that they were in my cabin, and I kept insisting that they were not, and finally he said that he would call my cabin steward and ask him if he had put my tickets in my cabin. And my cabin steward said that he had never been given any shore excursion tickets for me, and the shore excursion guy gave me my tickets without a single word of apology. I eventually found out that that's what happens on Celebrity - when the Celebrity employees screw up or make mistakes, they don't apologize. My happiness at seeing my shore excursion tickets faded a little as I looked at my copy of Celebrity Today. It said that the Revelations lounge would open at 5:30 PM. I thought that was a little strange, since Celebrity had given our group the right to hold a private party in Revelations beginning at 5:00 PM. and ending at 6:00 PM. When we got to Revelations shortly before 5:00 PM, we saw that it was full of "outsiders." Even though the Celebrity Today newsletter said that Revelations would open at 5:30 PM, some people decided to go there before 5:00 PM. And the Celebrity employees let them in. At least the employees kicked the "outsiders" out so that we could have our private party. This was the first of many indications on this cruise that Celebrity's right hand does not know what its left hand is doing. My friend and I opted for Celebrity Select dining, because we prefer to get in and out of the dining room at dinner time, instead of having to wait and wait and wait for other people to decide what they're going to have for dinner. I know that they are on vacation, and they have every right to take as long as they want to figure out what they want to eat. But we're on vacation, too, and we don't enjoy sitting around, waiting for people to make up their minds, so a table for two at a time we choose, as opposed to being locked in to a table for eight (or more) works better for us. While we always enjoyed the food, and we always got the table for two that we reserved, we found that the service was extremely slow, and we generally were not able to get in and out speedily, even though we ordered just the main course (no salad, no soup, no appetizers, and no dessert). We were not at all impressed with the service in the dining room at breakfast. On the Silhouette, the service at breakfast in the MDR was inefficient and rude. On the Summit, it was inefficient but friendly. We were at a table for eight. The waiter carefully took our orders for juice. Three people wanted grapefruit juice, and one wanted V-8. Soon a man came over carrying a tray of juices for us. Nice, but there weren't any grapefruit juices or V-8. Then a second man came over with a tray of juices for us. There was grapefruit juice, but no V-8. Eventually, the man who asked for V-8 was given it. If Celebrity likes to have men run around the dining room carrying trays of juices, fine, but why have the waiter bother writing down what everyone wants, if what we're supposed to do is sit there and wait and wait for someont to come over carrying the kind of juice we want? This was another example of Celebrity's right not knowing what its left hand was doing. I ordered waffles, and they didn't arrive until after six of the other seven people at my table had finished eating. I didn't know that waffles take so much longer than pancakes, Eggs Benedict, and omelets. And when I wasn't looking, a waiter sneaked up behind me and filled my cup with coffee without asking me if I wanted coffee. I did not want coffee. I asked people later on if Celebrity thought it was a great idea for waiters to fill people's cups with coffee without asking them if they wanted decaf, tea, or herbal tea, or if the waiter thought it was a great idea to pour coffee without asking people what they wanted. Believe it or not, people tended to think that Celebrity had told the waiters to fill people's cups up with coffee without asking them what they wanted. A second breakfast wasn't much better, and we ate breakfast the rest of the time at the buffet (where I could get my juice right away, where I didn't have to wait an eternity for waffles, and where no one gave me coffee that I didn't want and never asked for). We never had lunch in the MDR. On my questionnaire, I had no choice but to give the waitstaff in the MDR the lowest possible rating. We enjoyed all of the shows plus the lounge entertainment - Creszenzo Verde, Joe Nagy, Aldo Brest, the Aqua-Fellas, and the guitar player referred to in the Celebrity Today newsletters as "Johnny Mantra." When we talked to him, we found out that "Johnny Mantra" is a misspelling of his name. He said that he had been on the Summit for over two months, and he still couldn't get them to spell his name correctly. Plus his name was misspelled on his nametag. This was another example of Celebrity's right hand not knowing what its left hand is doing. On Day 3, we took a perfectly lovely shore excursion out of Portland to see three windmills. We were told to meet at the end of the pier, and I didn't hear about any problems. That's why I didn't understand why we had to meet in the theatre before going on our shore excursion in Halifax on Day 4. I had been to Halifax twice before, once with NCL and once with Royal, and I knew that Halifax didn't have a rule that said that people were not allowed to look for their tour buses but instead had to meet somewhere on the ship. But we were in the theatre at 10:45 AM for our 11:00 AM excursion to Peggy's Cove (with lobster lunch), and by the time the shore excursion people got us on our bus, it was 11:20 AM. And our tour guide, Janet, said that since we were late, we were going to miss some sightseeing that we were supposed to see, but we couldn't see it because we were late, and we had to hurry to the restaurant, because we had a reservation. I figured that we would see it later in the day, but we did not. Janet said that she had to get us back to the ship on time because she had to stick to the schedule, so we never saw what we were supposed to see but missed because it took the shore excursion people took too long getting us on the bus (instead of letting us find the bus by ourselves, as we did in Portland). There were six buses doing this excursion, and it's possible that the other five tour guides did not deprive the people of seeing everything they were supposed to see. I don't know. On Day 5 we tendered into Sydney, and I'm sure that by now, you've heard of the complete breakdown of any kind of efficiency on Celebrity's part. While the shore excursion people kept telling us that we wouldn't miss out on any part of our shore excursions, I didn't believe them. After all, their inefficiency had cost everyone on my bus to miss out on part of the Peggy's Cove excursion. I asked one of them when the last tender would leave Sydney, and she said 4:30 PM. That was the time posted in the Celebrity Today, so if the last tender wasn't going to be pushed back, how could they be so sure that no one would get cheated? Another example of the many ways that Celebrity's right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing was that we were told to meet in the Rendez-Vous lounge at 9:30 AM, and the room was packed full of people. There were very few seats in relation to the number of people standing there. And during the time that we were there, waiting to get on a tender, there were supposed to be two trivia contests. I don't know if the trivia contests got canceled or if they were moved to another lounge. I just don't understand why trivia and tendering were scheduled to be in the same lounge at the same time. I asked one of the shore excursion people if they had made a mistake scheduling everything in the Rendez-Vous, especially since there were very few seats relatively speaking for all of the people there. She insisted that Celebrity hadn't made a mistake, since they had thought that it would take only a couple of minutes to get everyone on a tender. A couple of minutes - really? When half of the people had left the Rendez-Vous to get on a tender, there were still more people standing than sitting. That's how crowded it was. Here's yet another example of Celebrity's right hand not knowing what the left hand was doing. My friend and I received an invitation to the Captain's Club cocktail party. When I read it, I saw that it was scheduled to take place in the same lounge at the same time as our group's private party. I went to Guest Relations, carrying both the cocktail party invitation and the notice from Celebrity that our private party would be taking place in the same lounge at the same time, and I spoke to Melmar, showing him the papers. Unfortunately, although I tried and tried, I didn't succeed in getting him to understand that there was a conflict and that something had to be done about it. He just said that it wasn't his problem, and he wrote down my cabin number and said that someone would call me. No one ever called me. I ran into the travel agent who was in charge of the group and told him. He said that he had already done something about it. We eventually got a new invitation to the Captain's Club cocktail party to be held on another day. We had a very pleasant excursion in Prince Edward Island on Day 6. It was good that we had to meet inside the Terminal Building instead of in the theatre, so that we were not unnecessarily delayed by the shore excursion people. On one of the sea days, there was a coupon in the Celebrity Today newsletter for seniors to bring to the casino to get $5 worth of slotplay. So my friend and I took our coupons to the casino, where we had to wait on a very long line to see someone. When we finally saw her, she gave us cards that said that we should be given $5 worth of slotplay, and she said that we had to run around the casino and find the casino technician, and he would give us our slotplay in return for the cards. She said that she had no idea where he was, that we had to run around and look for him. When we finally found him, it took a long time to get our slotplay, because he would take a few people's seapasses and disappear with them, and he eventually returned with the slotplay loaded onto the seapasses. I thought this was extremely inefficient on the part of Celebrity. We had no idea why we had to spend so much time waiting on line for the woman to give us cards. Why couldn't we have just been told to look for the casino technician and give him our coupons? We spent so much time getting our $5 slotplay that by the time we got it, we just gambled our $5, cashed out our winnings, and walked out. Celebrity didn't make any money off of us!. On Day 8, we took two very pleasant excursions in Quebec City. While we had time to eat lunch between the excursions, we did not have enough time to go anywhere and eat lunch and then return to our cabin, so the day before, we made sandwiches at the buffet and stashed them in the refrigerator. Although people will tell you that the refrigerator is not cold enough to store food, yes it is It rained on Day 9, the day we went to St. Anne de Beaupre and Montmorency Falls. It didn't matter to us that it rained while we were in the church, and as for the falls, we were glad that we had seen them the day before in our afternoon countryside tour. I was annoyed to receive a note at the last minute telling us that our meeting time for our Gaspe excursion on Day 11 had been changed to 7:15 AM in the theatre, where we had to wait for a tender. I did not want to take an excursion that met that early, and I didn't think it was fair that we were unable to cancel the tour and get our money back. Celebrity couldn't have cared less. We were originally supposed to meet in the Rendez-Vous. At least now there would be enough seats for everyone. But I heard people complain that they were never told that the meeting place had been changed from the Rendez-Vous to the theatre. Either the shore excursion people didn't notify everyone, or the cabin stewards didn't deliver the notes. I don't know. What everyone on the excursion did not like was that we were divided into two groups to go into a small, cramped room in a lighthouse and watch a movie. We didn't like it because we were a group of 52, so there were 26 people in each group, but there were only 15 seats in the room, so 22 people had to stand. And when we went to Le Manoir Le Boutillier and had a tour, we were again divided into two groups. The problem was that there was not enough room in the rooms for all 26 people to enter. I told Sylvie, the tour guide, that in both instances, we should have been divided into three or four groups. She agreed with me, but she said that she had to stick to the schedule, and there wasn't enough time for us to be divided into more than two groups. However, the schedule went out the window when one woman on the bus wanted to stop at a drugstore to make some purchases, and the rest of us had to sit on the bus and wait and wait for her to pay for them and leave the drugstore. Then it occurred to me that maybe the woman had asked Sylvie earlier if she could go to a drugstore, and Sylvie said sure, and she decided to carve out the time by dividing us into only two groups at the lighthouse and the manoir. Well, I hope that woman gave Sylvie an enormous tip, because I doubt if any of the other 51 people on the bus gave her a generous tip. Then came Day 13, the infamous day that we had to tender to Bar Harbor. When we finally, finally got to Bar Harbor and got into our tour bus, our tour guide told us that since we were one hour late, we would get only a five hour tour instead of the six hour tour that we had paid for. She said that we were supposed to see some gardens, but now we wouldn't get to see them. The tour included a lobster lunch, but we didn't get to eat until 4:30 PM. That's too late for people with diabetes who need to eat regularly, or for people who have to take medicine regularly with food. After lunch, the bus took us to Cadillac Mountain, where we were supposed to see the sun set. We would have seen it set, except that it was raining. We were taken back to get a tender. We had to get on the end of an enormous line. We got on line at 6:45 PM, and we got on a tender that left at 7:30 PM. That was supposed to be the time that the last tender left Bar Harbor, but I was sure that there would have to be more tenders later on. What about the people who weren't going to show up and get on line until 7:20 PM? I was on the tender that smashed into the rocks or sandbar or whatever it was. I will not go into all the details here, as you can read about it in the Celebrity thread about it. But I will say that my friend and I got back to our cabin around 8:40 PM, and as we were too upset to eat, we decided to see the 9:00 PM show. The fact that they had 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM shows that night annoyed me. I believe those were the times on 12 out of the 14 nights that they had the shows. I thought the shows should have been held later that night, since the last tender (if all had been well) was supposed to leave at 7:30 PM. We went to the 9:00 PM show, and the theatre was practically empty. I heard later on that the theatre at the 7:00 PM show was practically empty, too. After the show, we saw some more entertainment, and then we went to the buffet for pizza. The Celebrity Today said that pizza would be available until 1:00 AM. This was yet another example of Celebrity's right hand not knowing what the left hand was doing - we got there at 11:15 PM, and the pizza station was closed up tight. (Maybe they keep printing that there is pizza until 1:00 AM just like they keep printing that "Johnny Mantra" will perform - they just can't be bothered to print something a little more accurate.) Luckily, there were cold cuts, cheese, and rolls, so we didn't go hungry. At about 11:20 PM, we heard a passenger ask an officer why the ship hadn't left Bar Harbor yet. The officer said "I don't know" and kept on walking. I figured that they were still waiting for tenders to come in. I found out the next day that the Coast Guard came on the ship, and the captain had to get special permission from them to sail the ship to Bayonne, because there weren't enough lifeboats for everyone. The captain was the one who told us this the next day. On the morning of Day 14, we received a call asking us to go to an 11:00 AM meeting with the captain to discuss what they called "the unfortunate incident" with the tender. My friend didn't go, but I did, and you can find out what happened by reading the thread about the tender. You will read how the captain announced that no one was injured (which was NOT true), and how the passengers (not the tender crew) handed out life jackets, and how the tender didn't have enough life jackets for everyone, and how the tender crew never told us one word about what was going on, and so on. And how no one said that they were sorry or asked my friend and me if we were okay. Well, 2 out of the 93 people said that they were asked. Not nearly enough. A Maine lobster was one of the offerings for dinner the final night in the MDR. Someone had told me that the crew were going to fish for lobsters when we were in Bar Harbor, and that we would get lobster on the final formal night. I said that I didn't think so, because the night of the day we were in Bar Harbor couldn't be a formal night, and the next night would be our final night of the cruise, and the final night was never a formal night. But we did get lobster, even though it wasn't a formal night. As soon as he put the lobster down in front of me, the waiter ran off. (I had Celebrity Select dining, and this was customary. The waiter would run off as soon as he served our food, not to reappear until a half hour or more later.) He ran off so fast that I didn't have a chance to ask for butter. I had had a lobster lunch on two of my shore excursions, and at both places, small cups of melted butter were served with the lobsters. But I guess Celebrity figured that we didn't want butter. So I took some butter from the butter dish and smeared it in my butter plate and speared pieces of lobster with my fork and smooshed them into the butter. It was better than nothing. Eventually, the waiter showed up with melted butter, but, for some reason, he wanted to pour butter on the lobster shell. Why would he do that? It's not like I eat the shell. I asked him to pour some butter into my butter plate, and he did, but you could see that he had no idea why I preferred butter to be in the plate instead of on the shell. During the cruise, it seemed whenever Guest Relations called me, my friend was the one who answered, and when she was asked who she was, she would say "Jane Smith," and Guest Relations would say that they had no record of anyone named Jane Smith in my room. They insisted that I had the room to myself. But then we started getting phone messages from Guest Relations that were left for Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Those people from Guest Relations had no record that I was staying in my room. When we returned to the room after dinner on Day 14, there was a note for Mr. and Mrs. Smith from Guest Relations. I told my travel agent about this, and we laughed and laughed. Clearly another example of the fact that Celebrity's right hand doesn't know what its left hand is doing. I had hoped to be off the ship by 10:30 AM, and when we got into the car, i saw that it was 10:35 AM. Excellent! Our driver asked us if we could just hide in our room and stay onboard for another cruise. We said no, because you have to swipe your Seapass when you leave, and they would know who hadn't swiped their Seapass. Then I told him about Mr. Smith, and I said that maybe Celebrity was looking for Mr. Smith, since he didn't get off the ship, and we all laughed. Read Less

What a disappointment! The "Royal Suite" was in such sad shape, I could not believe that Celebrity Cruise Line would allow anyone to occupy that type of cabin. I took photos of the areas because I think that nobody would believe me. The carpeting had mold, the window drapes had mold and warm spots, the arms of one of the chairs was so dirty, I would not even sit in it, and I had them change my pillows because they smelled like body odor. We had a whirlpool bathtub, and on the last day of the cruise, I developed a rash on my arm. My dermatologist told me that it probably was from the whirlpool and that it was most likely because it was dirty. Too bad, because we sail at least 3 times a year, and this was our first time with Celebrity. Never again! I even asked other passengers if their cabins were in bad shape, and they all agreed with me. On the positive side, the crew members were wonderful, especially our butler. They really tried hard to please everyone. Without them, the cruise would have been a total disaster. We heard that the Summit was going to be refurbished after our cruise, but in my opinion, the ship never should have been allowed to have passengers board in the condition our cabin was in. Read Less

Our primary reason for selecting this cruise was that the ship would be overnight in Halifax for Canada Day and overnight in Boston for July 4th. Despite advertising this cruise and an "Independence Day Cruise" the ship failed to provide any way to see the Boston Pops and the big fireworks display other than to provide a public transportation map of how to get there. With so many people attending, getting back to the ship on our own was untenable. Further the shore excursions desk and particularly the customer service desk were borderline rude telling us that there was never any promise of making these events available. By the way, they did have a shuttle in Halifax. $36 for a 4 mile trip to see an 8 minute fireworks show. Unbelievable. The food in the dining room was the same old tired menu that we experienced on two other cruises this year and was definitely not executed as well. The buffet had very limited choices and the offerings were very often both cold and unappealing to the eye. In fact, most days, ~1/3 of the service stations in the buffet were empty. The cruise director and staff were way below expectations. Other than announcements and the evening showtime the cruise director was a ghost. There was virtually nothing to do after the last show, and they were downright disrespectful beyond belief to one of the contestant couples on the "wedding game".Except for the the comedians, the headliners and production shows were pretty good. (We were praying the cruise director would split his pants doing his little jig exiting the stage after the evening show.That would have been entertaining.) We did get excellent service from our room attendant and wait staff in the dining room. Our waiter did a pretty good job of steering us away from the unacceptable offerings at dinner. We've been on many Celebrity cruises and this was by far the worst. I'm pretty sure that absent finding an exceptional itinerary, we've sailed our last Millennium class ship and this ship in particular. Read Less

We read reviews of celebrity and their food and liked the itinerary. However, the ship is in poor repair with rust, cracks in finishes, carpet coming up in our cabin, dirty sofa, awful beds, and a musty smell in the bathroom, and seats you fall into in the oceanview restaurant. So much is peeling and in poor condition that they even have folding chairs in the oceanview. Staff are pleasant but don't bother to try it o get a wine or beverage in the main dining room. You will grow old and then the server will accuse you of somehow cheating your beverage package if you order a wine and bottle of water. Price of water is ridiculous. Tours were ok but not great. Paid a fortune for the tattoo and were seated away from my spouse. No one seemed to care. One tour which promised 1.5 hours at leisure, leftlate, no reimbursement or even an appology. Food, other than qsine, was rather tasteless. Others are either complaining or have expressed disappointment if they are longer term celebrity customers. My last celebrity cruise. Read Less

We chose this ship for the route only. This is an older ship and in need of dry dock refurbishing. They touted this as a Fourth of July cruise. No fireworks anywhere near the port in Boston. Only an excursion to take you to the hundreds of thousands of Boston visitors. Ports were lovely.. On the Concierger class, very little amenities. Food was fair at best. A lot of mashed potatoes and green beans. Lobster night, the lobsters were mush and not edible. The entertainment was extremely disappointing for a 10 day cruise. No broad way type show, only singer, flutist, pianist, one day there was 4 dancers, a comedian (poor) Pizza service had cold pizza and fair. This older crowd still had their youth but were treated as handicapped. Balcony cabin was very small. Shower needed new caulking. Other Celebrity travelers were as disappointed as we were. We have sailed with Celebrity many times and have always found the overall experience to be 5 star. This cruise however was the worse experience we have had in over 10 cruises. The ship was dated and looking tired and overall poorly managed. "systems not smiles" a well known saying in delivering good customer service. The front line staff always had a smile however the management systems on ship were poor in every department Particularly In the Dining and bar services. We were on select dining however it appears that they select when you eat. We could not get a table without a wait. The Select dining was not delivered unless we were happy to eat in what I would call a fire Exit. it was suggested you ring and book to avoid waiting tried this only to be told the time requested not available throughout the cruise but we could book either 5pm or 8.30 pm what is the point of being asked to make a daily reservation then. The food was very good even in the smash and grab upstairs. No complaints here what you expect on Celebrity. however we found seven mugs with broken handles in oceanview never found one on all the previous cruises we had been on. Would defiantly recommend an upgrade to Tuscan Lounge The steaks are fantastic with great service as well. I had the top drinks package (premium) and was constantly served the cheaper wine unless I went to the bar and insisted on the correct wine for my package. The better wines were not always available in certain bars especially the The revelations lounge which was kept for private parties only on sail offs (very annoying). The cabin facilities were poor too with a TV that crackles especially during movies old fashioned and out of date equipment and poor choice of movies, We paid for a Balcony which was just about big enough for 2 chairs and a restricted view. To top this off return from the swimming pool we found 2 men painting the balcony at 3pm with doors wide open and a strong smell of fumes. We appreciate that maintenance jobs have to be done whilst the ship is on voyage but there was no communication regarding the paint job and my wives underwear and jewellery were strewn across the bed with the door open and the maintenance men busy painting anyone could have removed her wedding rings and sentimental jewellery left in the room. The in house entertainment was so poor in the bars that I paid for full internet (over 200 dollars) just to watch a movie. The speed was so poor even Netflix crashed. The system kicked us off six times - six visits to customer services later it was finally sorted. On a positive the entertainment in the shows was okay when artists were brought on ship. Finding it difficult to find anything good to say. The main destination was Quebec 2 days in port can't wait. 6am in Quebec open my cabin curtain to Cranes ,Tractors and workmen in hard hats. A full building site in view not in the brochure. Cant wait to sail away. The entertainment managers were brilliant at entertaining each other with annoying and childish competitions between them of who could unravel a toilet roll the quickest (rivetting), The Motown night was brilliant if you like rock and roll. the best venue on the ship is the revelations lounge The Motown dancers came in to get the party started and after 20 minutes of Michael Jackson etc buggered off while the all illusive DJ hiding somewhere put on lets twist again one by one the lounge emptied party over!! The entertainment is better at Butlin's, trust me I know. We did put our list of complaints to the management and in fairness they did try their very best to put things right all be it a little too late. Bon Voyage Read Less

Celebrity Summit is an old ship which does not really meet the expectations of 21st Century passengers. According to other passengers and crew the ship is now some 15 years and if so apparently has never been properly refurbished. What was promised as a luxury vacation was far from that, we have been on more than a dozen other cruises with various lines and unfortunately this has been our worst experience so far. We tried Celebrity on the recommendations of friends who have sailed on other ships and for this particular itinerary (which was excellent). The ship shows it's age, from talking to both other passengers and crew members we are under the impression it it is due to be sold in the near future which may explain the situation but does not compensate for it. GOOD POINTS All the staff members we came into contact with were polite, chatty and efficient (but see below). Celebrity select dining for evening meals was generally well catered for and is a good idea - if you wish to be alone, that's fine but if you wish to share with others you meet a wide variety of people. This particular itinerary was generally good and there was sufficient time in each port. The port tours we tried were generally efficiently handled although there needs to be some training for the guides - on this particular itinerary they seemed to assume all the people on the tour were American/Canadian but us Brits and others had never heard of a lot of the "famous" names/places mentioned! Embarkation/disembarkation is generally efficiently handled although on this cruise a substantial proportion of passengers were either elderly or infirm (or both!) and this should be catered for sympathetically whilst not conflicting with the requirements of more able passengers. NEEDS IMPROVEMENT We said above that all the staff members we came into contact with were polite, chatty and efficient but in many places they are inefficiently deployed, at breakfast for example there were often three staff crammed in frying eggs but nobody to serve the dishes at the back, the glass screens are so low the passengers cannot reach underneath. This ship is showing signs of age but this is not taken into account in the price of the cruise. Nothing was tatty or dirty, everything just shows heavy use to to age. The dinner menu needs more varied choices, particularly for dessert where there are half a dozen stock options and only two new ones each night. The buffet lunch in Oceanview had many of the same dishes every single day with only a few variations. At breakfast there were several stations for cooked food but only one for things like pancakes/french toast/cereal. The food was not always sufficiently hot. On a couple of occasions items like mushrooms and fried bread were completely cold. Empty tables were sometimes not cleared for 10/15 minutes, in the pool area sometimes not at all. The table service in the Cafe al Bacio, Rendezvous Lounge and the Martini Bar was very good but it seems as if all the staff were there; table service was virtually non-existent in the theatre and Revelations lounge. There was either a long queue for drinks or a 20-minute wait. I expect to get what I pay for with a premium package Ditto for the pool area, on a few occasions the pool bar was closed but there was still very little visible service. All in all we enjoyed ourselves but did not feel this cruise lived up to expectations and most certainly does nothing for Celebrity's reputation. Read Less

We have cruised with Celebrity before and can say this was the worst ever. We have had three cruises this past summer and this cruise was the worst of the lot (the others were with Princess and Cunard). In brief - the cabin (inside) was a good size, properly furnished and everything worked; the entertainment in the theatre was of a high standard and the staff (with some exceptions) were generally helpful. On the other hand, the food was of a poor standard in both the restaurant and the cafe - breakfast was served in the cafe on cold plates which meant everything got cold very quickly, it was better in the restaurant but some of the waiters were extremely slow; dinner in the restaurant was a hit or miss affair, often a miss, food was of poor quality and sometimes inedible, the food in the cafe was virtually the same every night of the cruise which meant that very few people used that facility. Amazingly for an American ship, coffee was never hot, often tepid and frequantly cold straight from the dispenser. About 3.00 pm in the afternoon when people were coming back from shore excursions the cafe had virtually no food available for returning guests. In addition, on most occassions food had to be served by crew members, guests were often not allowed to help themselves. Additionally, the ship was generally very cold. The weather was often bad (we were running a head of a hurricane) and the outside temperature on the low side (on sea days it was often pouring with rain outside) which made the cold ship even colder. At one point the airconditioning unit in our cabin would only put out cold air which made the cabin very cold. It took numerous complaints to get it fixed which took two days. Finally, two separate points. The ship left early (at 2.00 pm) to get out of New Jersey ahead of the hurricane, while some people received a text or email we did not. It was only by luck that we arrived at the cruise terminal early and thus avoided missing the ship. The cost of everything on the ship was expensive. Two medium glasses of wine (including tip) was $22, the cost of using the internet was extortionate ($19 for one continuous hour, it was not possible to split the hour), photographs were also on the high side. The guests were told at a navigation lecture that the cruise had become very expensive for Celebrity because of the Captains decision to leave NJ early. The ship was too early to berth at the first port Boston and thus had to circle for some hours outside Boston harbour using up fuel. Thus there was a real effort to recoup the losses by encouraging guests to spend as much as possible. I could go one but you get the picture. My wife and I wanted to see New England and Canada, this was one of the few ships that went to Quebec. We really enjoyed all the ports of call but as with other reviewers I will not travel on this ship again. Read Less

I will start off by saying we have been on about 45 cruises, (age 54 + 56) and this was just about the worst. We have been on Celebrity 7 or 8 times, and all the previous times were great. Maybe because she is an old ship? It was just refurbished, so it should have been in a lot better condition. Our room was 8168, at the back of the ship! the bed was worn out, the TV in the sofa area was taped to the desk. Had to call 3 times to get the TV's re-set to work properly. Old small TV's. When we cruise, we like to relax in our room and watch movies, when not on tours. Well, Celebrity sure has messed that up. All the latest movies cost 14.99 each now, which is ok, as long as you can watch on- demand movies whenever you want. That's the problem-there are none! you get regular TV, and maybe 3 movie channels, complete with commercials. the listing page takes 3 or 4 minutes to load, so you never know what’s on. If you do find a movie to watch, it seems to be poor reception, skips, and gargled-except when you get to a commercial-they run perfectly. The movies you can get, are very old. We opted for the unlimited internet so we could stream movies on our i-pads - 175.00 for unlimited for one, and the second one was 225.00. OUCH! I guess this started us off on the wrong foot for sure. The staff were great-no complaints at all, smiling and ready to help where needed. Food- was very good! We only ate at the Buffet. We were charged 3.00 for an orange juice, and 3.00 for a bottle of water. Seems like Celebrity was trying to squeeze every last cent out of us. Glad I read the part on cruise critic that says all ships tap water is the same, so we just drank the water in the cabin, from the bathroom tap. Sickness -yes we got sick, and had to disembark in Quebec city. Seems a lot of people were coughing/sneezing. First time for that. The staff was very helpful -they refunded our unused shore excursions-nice! We rented a car and drove home. Awesome deal from Avis - 50.00 one way from Quebec city to Toronto. Entertainment – was very good. Embarkation – with the storm coming, we left early. More people to get on board in less time. Was very smooth -took about 1 hour Ship -better send her back in to fix all the rust, she is a tired looking ship. What does refurbishing actually mean? Our room furniture was old, the closet had been repaired poorly, the sink was disgusting, and it was almost impossible to open the balcony door. The bed was old, TV's old and small, The AC was freezing-my wife has hot flashes, and still was cold! We will never sail on the Celebrity Summit again. And we will make sure the next ship has on-demand movies. If it wasn’t for the movies, we would have been ok. That’s a deal breaker for us. Read Less

I chose this cruise for the itinerary, as it is unusual to find one that does a round trip in this region, and the ports looked great. I would do the same trip again, but not on this ship, and not with Celebrity. The ship was reportedly recently refurbished, but there seems to be no evidence of that, other than change in a couple of venues. The entire ship just looks tired and worn. Cabins desperately need to be gutted and redone completely. Mattress was fairly firm but sunken, so not very comfortable. Counter tops of vanity and bathroom are spotted & scarred, shower tiles mildewed. Woodwork is chewed up, scratched, and a bit grimy. Balcony & its furniture are messy, dirty, and needing replacement or more thorough cleaning on a regular basis. TV is tiny & not working properly; and the heating & A/C needed servicing twice in my cabin. I was Really disappointed in the food in both the OceanView Cafe buffet and the dining room. Completely sub-average on all counts, and Celebrity seems to have substantially downgraded their menus & food choices over the past couple of years. The section labled "Gormet Selections" never once had anything but sad, bland, country-cooking style over-cooked, unspiced & unimaginative meats and plain-everything. Gormet???---HA! Totally unacceptable food for a cruise line, and every day the same boring, bland choices without variation. Stale saltine crackers are the Only crackers provided with the appetizer cheeses. Can you believe serving Brie with saltines? Well that's all you get. Seems that the desserts & Sushi are the only things that Summit chefs feel the need to provide lots of choices, even if the same every single day. On this 14-day cruise, I believe there was a single shellfish mixture that was offered on the buffet at least 10 times in the same form, and completely without flavor after the first day. Would have been great if done freshly each time, and I would likely have eaten it every day. But it was old, cold, and bland after the first serving day. One more thing--the serving staff in the buffet areas all seem Very Unhappy and barely pleasant, much less friendly. The Oceanview Cafe seating is horrendously crowded and limited. You just cannot get a seat without walking around in circles for 10-15 minutes at any time for breakfast, and most often the same happens for lunch. This is also just not acceptable. The stir-fry and pasta sections remain absolutely the same without variation, every single day! And in the mornings, you will NOT find any reasonable selections for packing a lunch to take off the ship during port days. So many other cruise lines do so much better than this. Briefly, the Theater shows each night were pretty average & non-stellar, with not enough variation from night to night (too many musicals/singers, with only one comedian, and one magician to break it up). I left several of the programs early. Daytime Sea Day schedules were limited & not very appealing to a wide population, and I found very few activities that were really interesting over the course of the entire cruise. Wow. Have not experienced this before, and it was a great disappointment. Completely inconsequential, but I found all the artwork & sculptures to be pretty hideous on this ship. Who chose them, and what were they thinking??!! If you are not taking a ship excursion, you will not be provided with any substantial information about getting around the ports on your own. Yes, the ship wants your money for the excursions, but other cruise lines provide standard maps & directions to highlights, and even lectures to plan your own time ashore. Suffice to say that I would never book another cruise on this ship, would never recommend it to anyone, and have just one more scheduled trip on Celebrity before I will likely move to other lines.
