Chose this cruise for its itinerary as it was going to all the places we had not visited before. The new refurbished ship looks good and from recent reviews it was overdue for the upgrade. We had just come off the Celebrity Solstice and flew into Hong Kong to pick up this Ship. You can see the difference between a Solstice class and a Millenium class but all in all the Celebrity Millennium is very good. The Captain Alex is brilliant with his great sense of humour. The food in the restaurant was not as good as the Solstice even though the menus are identical. The upstairs Buffett is very good with a good variety of food available throughout the day. The highlight I think for us, was the Ships tour to the lantern festival in Taiwan this was a great experience and we were very fortunate to be there at that particular time to participate in this beautiful event. 70 th birthday celebration disasterous choice. We booked a sky suite near the very top of the range cabins. We identified a twenty point plus list of problems in the cabin some which where never solved all the time we were on board. Others solved/improved by the fifth day of seven. A five star luxury cruise it was not. Example electrical wiring with exposed ends hanging out of the bathroom wall. No bedside lighting switches that worked. we has to cross the cabin in the dark to get into bed. No curtains on the balcony window. Electrical supply to the cabin in consistent or not working with some sockets. Tile grout and adhesive all over the bathroom walls, the solution was to paint over it, then of course it goes away?? No covers on the ventilation shafts in the bathroom and the covers they did eventually were old and falling apart leaving deposits in the bath and the bathroom floor. The most annoying and amusing problem was the bath room door did not fit and either stuck or clattered against the wall all day and night. The solution, self engineered, was to wedge a toilet roll behind the door and the wall, this was in place for the week. The staff on the ship were sympathetic and pleasant but those who manage Celebrity have little regard for their passengers who as in our case paid a great deal of money for 5 stat luxury which frankly did did exist. At embarkation we had to show our passports about four times and then they took them off us!!! The ship was in excellent condition following a recent re-fit but more attention should have been given to the outstanding snags. The food was very good in the standard restaurants but the world class dining (extra £35 per head) was certainly not world class and bore no resemblance to the menu shown on the Celebrity website (very underhanded by Celebrity), it even had pizza on the it. I didn't even turn up for the second booking and was prepared to lose the £70 paid. Although i took out the beverage package it was very confusing understanding what was and what was not included. I found the staff very polite. Two out of the three places where the ship stopped were disappointing as they were miles from any form of tourist attraction and therefore cost a lot of money in taxis getting anywhere, although this was still much, much cheaper than booking through Celebrity. Getting on and off the ship was well managed. Read Less

We booked this cruise over a year ago based on the Singapore, Viet Nam and Hong Kong Itinerary. Unbeknownst to us, this was going to be the first cruise after the Millenium was being refurbished in dry-dock. The ship was being "touched up" right up to the time we sailed and throughout the sailing. We were told to arrive any time between 11:30 AM and 3:30 AM. Registration was fairly uncomplicated. Groups were seated based on cabin class. One of the ship's vocalist played as entertainment (beautiful voice), while we waited. Finally, at just after 12:30, an hour late, we were allowed to board. There was a great deal of excitement as everyone came aboard. The crew was very welcoming and went out of their way to assist. There was a nervous excitement in the air. We loved the new design and the feel of the ship. Our first constructive criticism - we were Aqua class. Blu, the Aqua class restaurant, was closed for lunch. For lunch we were told to go to the buffet. I really dislike buffets. I avoid them. Being around crowds of people fighting for food is not my idea of relaxation nor the way to begin a cruise. There was lunch at Luminae for suites. There was a private lunch for Concierge class in Metropolitan Dining Room. Blu should have been open for lunch. Our Cabin - we really liked the decor of the cabin and the design of the bathroom. The new beds are heavenly! There were some items that had been forgotten or not finished in our cabin. Celebrity was very responsive to the issues and by mid-cruise almost everything had been repaired. We weren't the only ones with room issues and from what I heard, Celebrity made every effort to make things right. The person we had dealt with in Guest Relations was excellent and checked each day until the room issues were resolved. The above issues are the only reasons I did not give our cruise 5 stars - an excellent rating. Dining - Blu was fantastic. We loved it so much we ate their exclusively. Our last Celebrity cruise we were in a suite and enjoyed Luminae - but this cruise - Blu might have been even better. The staff was truly outstanding. We enjoyed all of our meals there. Never felt rushed. Entertainment and Activities - there was so much to choose from. Truth is, this cruise we needed to unwind and just relax and that is exactly what we did. I used the spa for a whopping 7 times - the most I've ever been to a spa. Loved everyone there. We loved sitting on our veranda and staring out at the sea. The cruise was a very full one and most of the 2200 were from the UK and Australia. When we went to dance or watch a show it was packed. Excursions - We used Celebrity for our excursions with one exception. All were excellent and well worth the cost. Captain Alex - absolutely hysterical. He should be doing stand-up comedy. We looked forward to his morning addresses. To recap, the Millennium is a beautifully refurbished ship. My husband joked that it had that "new ship" smell. It was an almost perfect cruise minus a few things that were not ready or not finished in our Aqua cabin. The service we experienced was OUTSTANDING from everyone. We've only been back in the US 12 hours and miss the ship. Looking forward to our next cruise (booked on this cruise) in two years..... Read Less

Having been on 12 cruises I can definitively say that this ship did not live up to the hype of Celebrity Cruise Lines. I know it is going into dry dock soon for a major upgrade but man, the wear and tear is visible everywhere and the staff are largely untrained and do not speak good English. There were a few very good people working on board who could hold a conversation but many you had to exhaustively repeat yourself to and then finally give up because they couldn't understand you. That aside, the itinerary itself was good except for excursions. These need work. Icy Straight Point Ocean Raft was basically a drive out into the ocean and back and paled in comparison to the day before where knowledgeable guides worked to ensure you got your monies worth from the trip. Likewise, the last day excursion of Kart Adventure, again, it was basically a drive out into the bush to bake in the abnormally sunny and humid day and then drive back. We had 100 times the fun on the same type of excursions we booked ourselves in Denali. Buffet had a ton of Indian vegetarian items but not much American, loads of "fish" signs that one could not decipher what they were eating (am I eating crappy Chinese Tilapia or a local fish?) Aside from that, we ate in the main dining room one day and decided that since it wasn't amazing that we would just eat at the buffet and not have to change our clothes to go sit with perfect strangers. (We like Norwegian much better as they don't force you to do this nonsense) We did have an unlimited premium beverage package and WIFI. The only problem was that you had all bars having only certain things and often they were out or didn't know where to find things so it was hard to enjoy this premium capability when you were reduced to one or two choices that you can get at home for cheap. In concierge class (which we paid extra for), the upside was special pillows to choose from but aside from that I don't see what we paid for...warm seafood based snacks delivered to our room and discovered well into the late hours of the night (as in when did they arrive? Are they safe to eat? What is it?) We just set it outside for fear that it was too old to safely eat. I would skip that if I were the cruise line. Gross. Cabins were cleaned nicely and promptly on a daily basis. Laundry service is $50 a bag...need I say more. Entertainment was from the 90's. I've seen better on other cruise ships, we tried two shows and walked out. No trivia games, other day time activities other than opportunities for the cruise line to upsell you on something or sell their goods from the shops. Again, other cruise lines like Norwegian do this way better....must have day time activities for adults that don't involve buying things. They did have a nice tea time in the buffet daily but it wasn't advertised which I thought was strange. Why not tell people about something you are doing? Instead it was listed very vaguely in the program guide for the day on the back page. I didn't even discover it until day 4. That's about all that is worth mentioning. Embark and Disembark was smooth. Back bar overlooking the ocean was the only one worth going to... Read Less

Room 7195. Overall we had a great time with one exception that was addressed. This room has an adjoining door to the room next door, and it provided no barrier to the noise next door. The two guys next door were loud when they came in late (around 1:30, and up early (5:00 - 5:30). We were getting 3-4 hours of sleep for the first 3 nights. We had brought it to both guest relations' and the concierge's attention, and both said they would message our neighbors. After the third night our concierge arranged for a transfer to a room a few doors down without an adjoining door, and we slept like babies. I really compliment how our concierge addressed the issue, it saved the cruise for us! But I would recommend avoiding an adjoining room on the Millennium (unless of course you are with family/friends). For example, the TV is next to the door, and it literally sounded like it was our TV. Unless your neighbors are church mice, you are going to hear every word they speak. Other than that, we had a great time. We were impressed with the quality of the food in the main dining room for dinner, and the breakfast buffet. The service was fantastic across to the board. The ship itself is in good shape despite having some age to it. The entertainment was very good. And having great weather certainly helped with the destinations. We enjoyed each of the stops, and felt we had the right amount of time for the excursions and seeing the locations. I would recommend this cruise to anyone minus an adjoining door! Read Less

We choose this Cruise to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. Wanted to step up in class for this event. Service was less than impressed. We fly into Anchorage the day pior and took the train to Seward spectacular! Embarkation was uneventful. Ship pushed acholic packages hard. We purchased premium non-acholic package. Long story short beware!! Ship doesn't stock vitamin water in the bars had to wait extremely long time to get service then was a crap shoot if order was correct. Main dinning room- We had open seating was announced you could make reservations. We made reservations for 6:30 everyday sometimes took till 7:15 to be seated. Seemed to be short staffed at some ports on security. Only one person check folks in and out. Had to stand in rain for 30 minutes to board vessel. Entertainment was fantastic! Overall Alaska was amazing. We enjoy cruising Royal Caribbean thought we were stepping up in class but felt like we took two steps backwards Read Less

I love the size of the millennium ship. Not too big, easy on and off the ship. Celebrity is our favorite cruise line. The ship was very clean but it is definitely due for some upgrades. Food was good overall, better than average buffets. The steakhouse was very good. Always celebrity quality as far as service. Really miss the wine cellars from the past, the drink packages have replaced that option and the bars are crowded. Entertainment is standard for cruising. Really enjoyed the specialty steakhouse and would recommend it for a special celebration. Common areas were always clean. The naturist on board was excellent. Really enjoyed All the talks and especially the information while visiting the glaciers. I was disappointed in the overall casual flair of the passengers. Jeans and T-shirt’s and very relaxed attire even for dinner. The chic nights were nothing more than jeans and fleece tops. A much different crowd than expected for this caliber of ship. We enjoy dressing for dinner and wish that the ship had enforced the dress code. Read Less

We’ve sailed Celebrity more than a few times, and this was our first disappointment. I think the reason for this feeling is that Celebrity has cut back on some of the little things that made a cruise seem special. This was particularly noticeable in the lack of detail in the Concierge class stateroom. Gone are the days of beautiful stateroom flowers, welcome bottle of chilled champagne and lovely, memorable and useful gift upon arrival. Our concierge class stateroom was on deck 8. Room was fine, but bland with worn furnishings and thin towels. Embarkation was fine until the muster station exercise. Guests were jammed packed int areas too small to accommodate the number of people, staff was disorganized, and the whole thing took an extraordinary amount of time - well over 30 minutes jammed in to a hot, packed area. Overall the staff on the ship seemed worn out and at times overwhelmed. This could be that our AK cruise started right after the ship had crossed the Pacific from Asia. Many cruise staff seemed glassy-eyed and like they were running on automatic pilot. Some specific experiences: The stateroom attendant was adequate, but seemed mostly concerned with trying to get us to commit to regular times of day we’d be out. We didn’t spend much time in the stateroom, so we told him he’d just need to flex with our random schedule. Food on the cruise was average at buffet and grill, good in the main restaurant, service spotty depending on where you were seated. Bartenders across the ship could use some customer service training, and several were actually rude. Especially to a woman if unaccompanied by a man, which was archaic and unbelievable in today’s world. We also noticed bars on the ship were not open at times published in the daily ship itinerary, so if you wanted one of the higher end wines with or after lunch or a Pelligrino water, you were out of luck. Disappointing if you purchased the unlimited premium beverage package. Entertainers were very talented and fun. Shore excursions were good, and we did many of them... worth the price, and well arranged. On board activities were spotty. Some were very good like wine tastings, and others absolutely horrid. Had a ridiculous experience at 2 watercolor art classes run by a person who only wanted to work with people who were on extended cruising (2+ weeks), wouldn’t share supplies to newcomers, and started classes 15min early every time just to accommodate her prior pet students. Really?!? Not my idea of fun treatment, and certainly inappropriate for a cruise activity! I chose to leave the second class upon recognizing the instructor’s pattern as there was fun to be had elsewhere. We’ve cruised numerous times, and really enjoyed our experiences in Alaska. We’ll go back again, but not on Celebrity. Overall the cost of this cruise outweighed the experience for us. We’ll choose a different cruise line next time. Read Less
