Summary: First ever Atlantic crossing for us, was serviced well on a nicely appointed ship. Seeing the open ocean (versus Caribbean) from a low deck ocean view cabin was breathtaking. Recommended. Detail: We'd sailed twice before with Celebrity with no disappointment. Although at the end the length became slightly monotonous, we love days at sea (versus in port), so it was fine. The weather was much better than expected for early May (chilly on deck, but the solarium (covered pool) made that nearly irrelevant). On board activities (other than a moderately interesting historical lecture series and a few recent movies) was as tedious as ever, but we seldom pay attention to those things, anyway. Main dining room service was impeccable, meals there and elsewhere on board were good. Price was excellent for the length of cruise, ignoring the need to pay for an air return to the U.S. from the U.K. Only real negative was the constant emphasis on hand sanitation and denial of direct access to beverage stations, forced by an outbreak of novovirus aboard during the prior leg. After a federal inspection, beverage station access was relaxed, however. Loved the ship -- considerably better than for the two Carnival cruises we've taken. The transatlantic itinerary ensured that there were very few children (mostly middle-aged and older couples, with a surprising number of older singles) -- which appealed to us enormously. No water slides or splashing around in the hot tubs. Read Less

The itinerary of the cruise up the pacific coast to Vancouver was exactly what we wanted and in spite of a disaster on another cruise on the sister ship (Summit) we booked. From the embarkation at the port of San Diego, which was almost like a third world country port, to the embarkation in Vancouver was a tribute to total ineptitude. We had a dining room table for 11 but from the first night till the 5th nite on a10 day cruise one other couple and ourselves where the only one to actually dine. We asked repeatedly to have us moved to another smaller table but they refused.. Finally on the 8th day they moved us to another table and had another gentleman from open dining join us for the remainder of the cruise. We had booked over $1000 in excursions throughout the cruise. Each and Every one was a disaster. Misinformation, misdirection to meeting places etc.. They took us to Solvang California at 9:30 AM and the stores didn't open until 10:00AM. One excursion was scheduled for 9:30 AM and we received notice at 8: AM the same day that the cruise had been moved to 2:30PM after we had gotten up at 6:30AM in order to make the original departure time. We received so much credit back for complaints that we had enough to buy a new iPad and pay for a medical visit to the ships Dr. The Summit and the Infinity had noted they were refurbished recently but the Summit had spots and stains all over the upholstery in the Dining room and rust everywhere on both ships. They did update the area they added for the Blu Restaurant and the Aquaclass rooms but the rest were sorely neglected. Us plebians deserve some perks too!!!!! When we had to "tender"in several ports, I was almost afraid to get on the tender because of their poor condition and filthy windows and rust everywhere. I know this must sound lik esour grapes but we are faithful Celebrity cruisers and enjoy their cruises. We are booked on the new Edge in February and will be taking it again on a transatlantic in 2019 with a transatlantic in the fall of 2019, so we do love Celebrity. We hope that these heralded renovations of the older ships include these two ships or they should take them our of service!!!!! Read Less

The ship is in bad need of a complete overhaul. We ran on one engine most of our 16 day cruise as the other engine blew on previous cruise. Our ports of call, with the exception of Panama Canal and Cayman Islands, were awful. We had a really bad experience on a ship excursion beach trip in Manta Ecuador. Everyone on the trip complained but they would only refund 50% of the cost of the trip even though they admitted it was very bad. This was our first and last cruise on Celebrity. It’s back to RCL for us! Celebrity is NOT a step up from RCL as we’d been told. They don’t know how to take care of their passengers! The food was very mediocre but the entertainment was good most nights. I thought the crew seemed tired and ready for a break. We are diamond members on RCL and were elite on Celebrity. We were given coupons to be used in the lounge between 5-7 for 3 drinks per person. Never had that before. Read Less

This was our 34 cruise since 1991 and the third on Celebrity. To say it was a disappointment would be and understatement. The food which is why everyone cruises was in the poor category. They have now come up with new names for items on the menu but the food overall in tasteless and unappealing. For the first 3 nights there were very few wines to choose from as they were out of most items on the menu. There were 4 nights in a row where there was some type of chicken rollatini on the menu. Now on the left side of the dinner menu they have steaks and lobster available for an up-charge from $17 to $32 if you do not like the evenings offerings. The specialty restaurants have similar food to the dining room just larger portions for an additional charge of $45 to $50 per person. We had dinner in the Tuscan restaurant where we expected a generous shrimp cocktail and steak for dinner but now go. We had fish that was tasteless and very poor service. The ship was not well cleaned or maintained. There were chairs with the stuffing coming out and the wooden arms heavily scared. The tables in the Ocean View Cafe (buffet) were constructed with a poor edging that was encrusted with dirt and grime. We pointed this out to the staff and they said they cleaned it but is wasn't during our cruise. The prices of items you normally purchase were very high also, A liter of water was $5.50 and a can of coke was $5.00, both with an additional 18% tip, just outrageous. Overall the service was less than average. We will never cruise on Celebrity again. Read Less

Celebrity Infinity April 29 - May 12, 2014  TRANSATLANTIC: MIAMI to HARWICH INTRODUCTION Is there such a thing as infectious malaise? The INFINITY had just suffered an outbreak (3% to 5%) on its last cruise. It was super- cleaned and departure was delayed. There were at least two inspections in the early days of this cruise. Before the completion of the inspections all food and drink had to be served by gloved staff. To do this must have required extended and double shifts of a staff that typically works 15 hours a day. Perhaps, this explains the poor service we experienced. OVERALL SHIP The ship is not kept as nice as it should be. I have been on many older ships; all of which were maintained better. The public bathrooms were clean and the attendants were very nice. Celebrity used to be known for its customer service and its food. Our cruise lacked both. We have sailed on Celebrity five times before the Infinity: 1. CENTURY, 2005, Amsterdam to St. Petersburg. 2. GALAXY, 2006, Panama Cana. 3. SUMMIT, 2009, San Juan, Southern Caribbean. 4. MERCURY, 2009, Los Angeles, Alaska. 5. SOLSTICE, 2011, Barcelona – Athens. Early Arrival We arrived at the Cruise Terminal after an early flight from Houston. We were not given anything. We were offered a tour of Miami on an open air bus. We declined. A cup of coffee would have been welcomed. I got a wheel chair but no one to push me. The Celebrity attendant just left me. My husband was ahead of me and I was left to wheel myself across multiple lanes of traffic and I feared to be left behind. This was unacceptable. Virus Because of the virus on the ship we were not allowed to board the ship for hours. By then I was tired and my arthritis was flaring up. This bad start continued throughout the cruise. We took this cruise to rest. With no place to rest we just roamed around the ship. We had very little for lunch on the first day. All the areas were overcrowded. We knew dinner would be served soon. The shops were closed as well as the casino because we were still at dock. For your convenience we had a fire drill right shortly after we boarded. At this point what I need was a tall cool drink and my feet propped up. Neither one I got. We attended the fire drill at your convenience not the passengers some of which were still not able to get into their room After a day of travel and just waiting you k now that passenger need to freshen up. Bags We fortunately have a bag we can easily identify. We found one far down the hall from our cabin. Stateroom Of the 1,085 cabins aboard Infinity, roughly 80 percent are oceanviews, while 57 percent of all cabins have balconies. The ship also offers a range of suites, from sprawling penthouses (1,400-plus square feet) to more petite but elegant Sky Suites, as well as 26 accommodations that are fully ADA compliant and wheelchair accessible. Infinity's standard cabins, from the least expensive insides to balcony cabins, are well configured and nicely decorated with soft hues, elegant furnishings, rounded-end beds and comfortable seating options. Standard inside and outside cabins come in at 170 square feet. Balconies add 38 square feet of outdoor space. All standard cabins come equipped with minibar fridges (for-fee), safes, telephones and interactive televisions with excellent programming (including CNN, ESPN, several movie channels, several in-house channels and TNT). THE TV PROGRAMS WERE AS BAD AS I HAVE EVER SEEN ON A CRUSE SHIP. The "interactive" part includes ordering room service, checking your daily bill balance and playing video slots and blackjack (for those who are bored and need to spend money gambling on a television). Our stateroom was not completely ready but we understood about the cleanup. We overlooked many things. It took days before things were in place. An example of this were many (5) ice buckets stored in our stateroom. The small sofa and bed pillows were uncovered. I never did see a bed spread. Our steward put wet sheets on our bed. We called him and he did not say much. I wonder if he would have gotten in trouble if he sent them back. I next called the guest relations desk because 15 or twenty minutes went by and he did not come to the room. The guest relations person sent a supervisor. He came shortly after I called. He brought LEZLY our attendant and it was uncomfortable for Dr. Sodek, my husband, and I to talk to him. The supervisor changed our attendant and sent us a bottle of wine. We had another occasion where I called Lezly about a hair dryer which did not work. I am familiar with this type of dryer and knew how to work it. Lezly was annoyed I called and said he was at lunch or break. I had just washed my hair but I told him it was fine to wait until his break was over. I did not get the dryer until I returned from dinner. I stayed in my stateroom until my hair dried. Lezly had a poor attitude and perhaps was very tired. I asked room service for half and half and got an artificial creamer instead. Lezly offered to get me some cream. He dropped one of the creamers on the floor and he Looked at it and then turned and left the stateroom. I, of course, picked it up and placed it on the desk. We got something in a pitcher because he said there were no more small single containers of half and half. Of course later we got them. A rose given to us by the Captain’s Club remained many days on the desk dead until I finally threw it away. Our stateroom bathroom had a swishy, soft spot as one stepped out of the shower onto the mat. All I could think about was mold underneath where the water collected. Frederick and Kem, our replacement room stewards, were very nice. Dining room Our wait staff, Michael and Juan Carlos, was very, very good. Juan Carlos will make a good waiter and has a very pleasant personality. An attitude problem surfaced in the dining room (lunch) when I asked for yellow mustard. I was told they only had only Grey Poupon. There was certainly yellow mustard at the buffet. I know you have yellow mustard and I was having a Hamburger which to me calls for yellow mustard. When we booked our cruise we asked for early dinner and a table for six to eight guests. The first night we had dinner alone at a table for two. We asked for a change and were told we could request it after dinner. We found no one to help us that night. The next day following instructions on where to go to make a change we found the information to be incorrect and had to search for the place to change. We were not able to be seated at early dinner. We accepted this, but we were put at a table where one other couple was seated. It happened that only one other couple showed up for dinner twice and the other 2 seats remained vacant. We like to meet and talk with other passengers. Fortunately we did enjoy the other couple. They left the cruise early and we had our last dinner by ourselves. Meeting and dinning with other passengers are to us a large part of a cruise. We have been to 75 plus countries and like learning about different cultures. Management should do something to prevent passengers being unable to get a table the size they request. I understand the servers need to get their tips but I need to experience other people and cultures. As I stated this is important to me. When guests do not come to dinner a few nights in a row could you arrange to combine some tables? The striking Trellis Restaurant, Celebrity Infinity's main dining room, offers formal breakfast, lunch (select days only) and dinner. It also offers brunch on one of the sea days. The highlight of the two-tiered restaurant is a huge, paned showcase window that extends from floor to ceiling. Tables are set for combinations of TWO, six, eight and 10. There are two options for dinner in the Trellis Restaurant. Passengers can go with traditional, set seating (at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.) or opt for the more flexible Celebrity Select dining option. With Celebrity Select, passengers have the option to dine any time between 5:45 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. and to decide whether they want to eat with their own party or at a mixed table with other cruisers. They can also make specific dinner reservations for each day of their cruise online in advance, make reservations onboard or simply show up when ready to eat. The effects of adding cabins and carving Blu out of the Trellis Restaurant during Infinity's revitalization are most felt in the ship's Celebrity Select dining experience. It's the one place where Infinity gets too crowded, especially when the ship is near full capacity and on nights (like formal night OR LOBSTER NIGHT) when more people, AquaClass passengers included, choose to eat there. Nearly everyone shows up during the peak dining hours of 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.; passengers with reservations will likely wait 10 or 15 minutes to get through the line, while passengers without reservations can wait a half hour or more for a table. Celebrity is working on getting buzzers for waiting passengers, but with limited dining space, there's just no way to add more tables to the already squashed second floor of Trellis to accommodate flexible diners. Cuisine at The Trellis is generally well received; the menu features a mix of traditional and imaginative fare with vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free, no-sugar-added and SPE (healthy yet tasty, as validated by SPE Certified consultants) items noted on the menu. Anytime menu items include escargot and shrimp cocktail starters, French onion soup and Caesar salad, broiled salmon and New York sirloin entrees, sides of roast potatoes and steamed vegetables, and chocolate cake, apple pie and cheesecake for dessert. Our only service complaints were that they could bring bread more quickly to the table (given that many diners had just waited for a table and were hungry) and that the waiters could respect our choice not to eat dessert, and not try to wheedle us into trying the cherries jubilee. The Oceanview Cafe is the ship's buffet restaurant, located aft on the pool deck. Coffee, tea and juices are available 24/7, and food is served from 6:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. The buffet is set up in one long U, but three stations (pasta, pizza, and ?) are hidden way at the back, separate from the main buffet and easy to miss, which is unfortunate; these sections have different offerings from the regular buffet. Room service is available 24/7. Breakfast door cards allow you to check off both cold (cereal, fruit) and hot (eggs) choices and choose a window for delivery times. Throughout the day, passengers can order from a menu of soups, salads, burgers and sandwiches, pizza and dessert, with additional hot items like vegetable lasagna, New York strip steak and avocado-tomato quesadillas. One can order via the phone or the interactive TV. Tipping for room service is customary and greatly appreciated. A new feature (since 2011) on the breakfast room service menu are prices for some items. The all day menu features chicken at $20 and filet mignon at $20. Wine Steward Our wine steward was very aggressive serving wine. She really sneaked up on me and after a couple of times I stopped her and said no at this time to more wine - I would tell her when. This did not stop her from freely pouring my wine. I am sure she sells a lot of wine but she is annoying. All the wines was sold at approximately 500 %(!!!) of the cost. Casino Slots were not familiar. I did not like them. My 46th Cruise We have been on 46 cruises. We have been on Six Celebrity Cruises. This cruise was the worst Celebrity cruise we experienced. There are many small old ships we have been on that were better maintained and where the crew were happy to serve you. I can forgive the tiredness of the crew for the first few days after the cleaning and 2 inspections, but the attitudes did not change. I saw passengers become rude and irritable because so much was wrong. I know you cut down on the activities crew and how much Rachel and her one colleague had to work including carrying heavy objects to set up for the artist and they had to clean up and place chairs in their proper place after some of their events. How many areas did you cut back on personnel? The standards we experienced in the past are gone and you were no better and in some instances; more like Carnival. These transatlantic cruises are a bargain but I did not expect a cruise with lower standards. Entertainment First, we found the cruise director and staff to be outstanding. The only problem is that Rich’s two assistants, Rachel and Shawna, were the only two assistants. Most cruise ships as large as the Infinity have at least five on the cruise director’s staff. This appears to be another Celebrity effort to reduce costs. The entertainment was reduced to single person performers. I always enjoyed the musical productions. We expected to see some musicals preformed. The one musical night was wonderful and we were grateful for it. Entertainment in the theatre was also disappointing. There were one or two nights that it was good, but overall, it was less than enthralling.. Celebrity Life is Celebrity's enrichment and activities program for day and evening fun onboard. Activities mostly follow cruise ship standards (art auctions, bad hair day seminars, cooking demos, wine tastings, bingo and ballroom dance lessons). Some of the more unique (and entertaining) options are interactive events with officers and passengers, including Ping-Pong or water volleyball tournaments, silly game shows and an uproarious Dancing with the Officers "dance" (or is that physical comedy?) contest. Celebrity's nightly theatrical performances, ranging from Broadway compilations (one on this 13 day trip) to piano concertos, take place in the lovely three-deck Celebrity Theater and are generally well regarded. Shows include typical Vegas-style lounge acts. Various presenters of interest lectures were not interesting, an awful level to be provided on a cruise with few landings and on a smaller ship with little else to do. The Captain’s Club reception, for all past passengers, was the best we have attended in our 46 cruises. The food and drink was presented on a menu for each table. Sufficient wait staff served very nicely. The uppermost Captain spent many minutes talking to his guests. Departure I requested help with a wheel chair. I called first and was told to call back 15 minutes before I was ready to leave my stateroom the next day. I did as instructed and was told that was wrong and I needed to go to the excursions area and wait my turn. My husband and did this and if it had not been for the lady officer who did try to control the way passengers were chosen to leave we would have missed help again just like the arrival was for me. Fortunately that Officer got someone to push me and my husband. What was shocking and alarming was that there was no customs procedures or any passport control. Crew members could have walked off the ship and simply disappeared in the UK. Cruising for us is wonderful. I am reluctant to book another cruise because I cannot have a cruise make me more stressed and tired than before I started. I am very sorry I took this cruise. I will have to think hard to try another Celebrity Cruise. In summation, a cruise is a wonderful experience and even a less than wonderful one is a unique experience. Would I recommend Celebrity? "NO" Would I consider another one with Celebrity? Probably not. Read Less

We chose this cruise based on a great past cruise with Celebrity and the itinerary which included nine ports in eleven days. Sadly, the quality of service, food, food presentation and entertainment have all gone way downhill since our last cruise. From embarkation in San Diego to returning to the ship after our last full day in Victoria BC, we encountered problems literally every other day. Most were small, but annoying and took time to resolve. Celebrity is in the service business, but seems to have made changes strictly to make more profit for them. Examples: Room towels were of lesser quality than a Holiday Inn Express. Celebrity now allows select members of the ship's crew to dine with guests in the Oceanview Cafe. No more midnight buffet's or even finally evening midnight buffet with ice sculptures. And, the chairs and tables in the Cafe really show their age and need updating. But who cares, it is where the buffet is served. Entertainment included a very mediocre juggler/magician as a main act. I could go on, but what is the point. Celebrity only cares to get you on board and then sell you everything they can. That is there focus. The even messed up two "Special Events" that we were celebrating including my 60th birthday on a day we were at sea. Why ask if you are celebrating special occasions on the cruise, and then mishandle and miss entirely, the special occasion? Yet, this is what Celebrity has become. Poor trained, poor managed staff that can only apologize for problems and put band-aids on them, rather than doing something to change the experience and make it better. Mind you there were a few shining stars who tried really hard, but this was a long and expensive cruise and the overall on board experience was not a positive one. Read Less

Most of critique is placed under cabin. We liked some features of this ship, but in general did not like it and will not return. The least of it was the heavily accented personnel with limited English who manned the telephones in CUSTOMER SERVICE!! The sea days were good but we have grown to expect more than one lecturer and some stimulating topics. We greatly enjoyed learning about emeralds from Cristian . The Cruise Director with his heavy accent and too-fast speaking should not be in that position. Conversely, Gina is a real gem and does her job with perfection. The shows were not to our taste, but we assume their clientele appreciate them. We missed the string quartet we have encountered on other ships. The ship is obviously understaffed and a cheapskate. On every other ship we have had bottled water delivered daily at no charge - here it costs as does everything else including ice cream cones Read Less

My wife and I took the 15-day cruise on December 9 from Fort Lauderdale to Cartagena, Colombia; the Panama Canal; Manta, Ecuador; Lima, Peru; and Arica, Chile. It concluded December 24 in Valparaiso, Chile. We have traveled other Celebrity vessels, but the Infinity proved a comparative disappointment. To begin with, there were necessarily nine days at sea. Many travelers filled the time with daily bingo and trivia contests, sun bathing, and the casino. The Infinity's library is easily the poorest I have encountered on more than a dozen cruises with several major cruise lines. On the fifth deck concessionaires worked over time to sell customers 'pre-owned' Rolexes and expensive perfumes. On the positive side, Infinity did have some excellent lectures on the Panama Canal and aspects of the history and culture of South America. And, its physical fitness center had top-quality equipment for those seeking to shed pounds gained elsewhere on the ship. As others have noted, Infinity zealously promotes its premium restaurants ($25 per person at lunch and $45 per person in the evening), and expensive drink packages. In fact, during the early days of the cruise one we were besieged by crew members doing extra duty, promoting the specialty restaurants. In the old days one could look forward to quality evening dinners. As Infinity seeks to promote its premium restaurants, and boost customer revenue, the quality of food in the main dining room appears to have suffered. One evening menu even included Pork and Beans among the entrees. Infinity needs to give more attention to maintaining the ship and and less to promoting specialty restaurants and add-ons. From the Oceanview Buffet, and from our eighth-floor room, we could look out and see any number of rusting surfaces. We will not return to Infinity. Read Less

Our cruise on the Celebrity Infinity was from Valparaiso cruising Northward seeing South America, Panamagg Canal and ending in Ft Lauderdale. Let me discuss some of the pre-cruise events. Our flight to Santiago was uneventful with the airport recovering from the 2010 earthquake which significantly damaged the International airport. Our private tour guides, Sergio and Annaliese from Perfect Day tours where perfect hosts and gave us a customized tour of Vineyards, Isla Negra, Vina Del Mar and dropped us off in our Valparaiso B&B called Hostel Morgan. The B&B was reasonable, in a fun area with many food options but a bit noisy at night. Thankfully, we had earplugs! Embarkation was easy and reasonably efficient. The cab was 8,000 pesos which included 2,000 peso tip. While most of the ports of call were arranged using private excursions (all amazing), we did arrange two Celebrity tours with Celebrity. The full day tour to the Altiplano from the port of Arica was amazing with Llamas, Guanacos, Vincunas, Alpakas, and Chilean Flamingos. The guide was informative and fun. The next port excursion with Celebrity from Pisco to the Ballestra Isle which also had great views of bird and sea animals but the trip was delayed with a late arrival of our boat. Leaving less time for wildlife. The Celebrity Infinity staff welcomed us onboard. The crew needed a long time to clean and sanitize any ship based in South American typically struggle to control Noro that's brought in from SA ports. They did keep us comfortable in the buffet until our rooms were ready at 4pm. Our stateroom was clean and in good order except for a broken telephone which we reported to our stewards when they came to meet us. The Celebrity Infinity main dining room service was excellent and the staff was top-notch. Our food was as good or better than other cruise lines we have used (HAL and NCL). The at sea teaching classes were also good providing good information and background on the upcoming ports and culture of the ports/countries that we would visit. However, the entertainment onboard was poor and wasn't appropriate for a South American cruise. Seeing poor Broadway shows and performers from everywhere but South America was disappointing. On other cruise lines, when we would pull into a port, they would have periodically have culturally relevant shows (e.g., in Scotland on a 2013 cruise, we had Scottish Bagpipers and on a trip with a port call in Istanbul, we had a Turkish dancers). The entertainment was unimaginative and inappropriate with some singers who were off-key. I've seen High School musicals which showed more imagination. We used one shore excursion from the ship and it was delayed (with our group losing an hour waiting for a boat and guide). Very upset cruisers who had to stand in the sun for an hour by the pier waiting. My phone voice mail system wasn't operational for the entire cruise which hampered our Cruise Critic groups from getting together or updating tour. We called repeatedly throughout the two-week cruise and finally got a senior staff member who indicated that "it's a French voicemail system and we've been having issues with it". However, I would not that after noting this on a comment card, they gave us some onboard credit (so at least they finally tried to provide restitution for our inconvenience). I'll likely not use Celebrity in the future based on price/ value but did enjoy the South American ports and Panama Canal. Read Less

We have waited until now to file our review on the infinity cruise mar 15-29 valpariso to fll. we had hoped our experience was unique to the crew and circumstances we encountered. not so most of reviews to date are not so nice. we also waited to see if celebrity would respond to our harsh feedback. nothing. we might as well be first time cruisers. In actuality we are Elite Plus having sailed with Celebrity on over 19 cruises First the positive our 5 day precruise to machu pichu was fantastic, but that was handled by lima tours, the subcontractor. The aqua class food and service has improved from our last aq experience on the reflection. Ships condition was fair considering it is old. Ship’s theatrical productions have suffered with second stringers and lots of recorded music accompaniment, even with musicians at the back of the stage. Ports – given this was a basically a repositioning cruise, the ports were mostly “b minus”. the western coast of south america is barren desert so one starts with this negative. highlights were pisco “naca lines”; cartegena ; panama canal. we were fortunate to do lima on our precruise since the lima port stop callao was cancelled. Lima for us was a wonderful city with lots of gastro food delights and historic sights. Next the NEGATIVE First our background. until the last three cruises, we have been loyal pax and enjoyed the celebrity experience. prior to this cruise we started to see erosion of the celebrity product. on the infiinty we were astounded by the severe drop in service and product. the following is a list of the “issues” we encountered that has us moving on to other cruise lines. item a: as a past officer for a major aerospace company, involved with safety, i was appalled at the lack of interest and spontaneity, that the guest relations staff approached my alert that the bathroom mirror heater was over heating. radiant heat from the heater was heating my hands 15 inches from the mirror ( like a fireplace) this caused the hvac to strain. i was concerned an overheat/fire hazard was very possible so i took three steps 1 told room attendant (result no action overnight) ,2 called guest relations (no action the next day) then3) called again with a threat to get someone fired. after the third harsh telephone conversation (20 hours later), an electrician was dispatched. bottom line i do not feel celebrity gave the attention this event deserved. forget the customer service, maybe a safety issue was worthy of a look? item b: failure of telephone system for several days. No voicemail. Important to us this trip since we were independent tour leaders. item c: failure by celebrity at the port of manta to secure adequate bus transport from ship to outside gate -- only two buses for 400 people and then some of the buses delivered people to the wrong drop off location casuing havoc for me personally. item d: lost laundry it took 3 days to establish 4 pieces of laundry confirmed lost and then i was offered a small portion of the value of the new clothing. item e: at the elite captains club party we were in line for the intro to the captain. all of a sudden, we were scooted out of line with others, basically given the bum's rush. No apology or reason for change. Item f after informed of issues, guest relations made an offer for future cruise funds as compensation, then retracted i!. Anyway woefully small amount. the next level guest relations rep really had no authority to compensate. We traveled from our home to San Diego by car and flew out to Ft. Lauderdale on Sat. We spent the night in a motel and the next morning we were met by our daughter who lives in West Palm Beach. We spent the morning with her and then shuttled to the ship for boarding. When we got to the Infinity there was a huge line down the street and around the corner of the building. We checked our bags and got in line. After 2 1/2 hours of standing in line and moving at a snails pace we finally boarded the ship. We initially booked a balcony room on the 6th deck but had upgraded to the 9th deck a week before the cruise. We entered our cabin 9197 and were pleasantly surprise as to the large size room we had and huge veranda. The room was the last one on the port side at the rear of the ship. Whatever you do, do not take a room on the 9th deck at the rear of the ship. The deck above us was the restaurant with a wooden deck and from 5AM to 10 PM the noise was terrible from the scraping and banging from the chairs and tables. After complaining for five days they offered us another room next to ours. (Our neighbors next to us also were moved to another room.) This room was much smaller so they finally said we could sleep in the new room and use the big one for day use and the large veranda. This worked out fine. The veranda provided an excellent location for going thru the Panama Canal. Our first port was George Town, Grand Cayman and we took a tour that we booked thru the ship. It was an excellent tour of the Island and we learned a lot of the history of the island. The tour was The Best of the Caymans. The next port was Cartegena, Columbia. We went ashore there and only did a little shopping and was back aboard ship in two hours. I purchased a Panama Hat which I had wanted for some time. From there we headed for the Panama Canal. I had gone thru the canal years ago from the Pacific to the Caribbean so this was the trip in the opposite direction. We spent the whole day on our veranda taking pictures and thoroughly enjoyed the passage in spite of some rain squalls. If you have not been thru the canal before I highly recommend it. It is a fantastic sight and the history is wonderful. On to Puntarenas, Costa Rica. We took an outstanding tour, The Pacific Train, Boat and Bus Adventure. The highlight was a boat ride on a river to see the crocodiles and birds. The train ride was aboard one of the oldest small trains in Costa Rica. It was a noisy bumpy ride but was a lot of fun. We saw the back country and back yards of number of shanties. Huatulco, Mexico was our next port. We went ashore and walked around town . We came across a street restaurant with an open kitchen to the eating area and stopped in. The food was excellent and so was the cerveza! Two more ports, Acapulco and Cabo San Lucas where we went ashore for a little shopping but did not do much. Back to ship. Rating the meals in the main dining room, I can only say fair. Most of our meals were only luke warm and one dinner the fish was half raw. We had lobster one evening where they only gave us 1/2 a tail and some of the lobster at our table was very soft like mush. This was our 8th cruise and we were not happy with the main dining. We did eat twice in the specialty restaurant, S.S. United States. The food there was outstanding along with the personal. The room stewart, waiters and all the people working on the ship were outstanding. I didn't go to any shows but my wife did and she thought they were excellent also. Read Less

This was our first trans Atlantic. We had 7 sea days in a row. We lost one hour every night due to the time change. The good part was we had 7 days of the calmest water ever and sunshine every day. The bad part was that there was nothing offered that didn't include a sales pitch during the day unless it was trivia or bean bag tossing. After the 2nd day at sea we were flat out bored. We also noticed the lost hours and were more tired. We liked the sit down breakfast in the mornings and the service and food were great. Lunch got very repetitive and half the space was either Chinese or Curried dishes. When they did offer chicken or beef or pork, it was so dry that it was hard to chew. Salads were always fresh. Pizza was also good. Dinner at night went from excellent pork chops and pork tenderloins to terrible brown stuff they called steak. There was NO LOBSTER dinner. Sometimes, we just ate salad and appetizers. Desserts were some kind of jello and cake mixture. The crème brulee was good. The food and bar service was quite good after we found our favorite bar staff and favorite waiters. The room steward (Made) was very helpful and always smiling. Several of the dining crew seemed bored with their jobs and were talking among themselves instead of talking with passengers. We did not see the officers mingling with any passengers. At the Cruise Critic gathering - they lined up and were introduced - and promptly LEFT! It lasted 5 minutes! How poor! Fortunately, there were 2 people on board that were willing to step up and give a lecture about the lives of the US presidents and their wives. A BIG THANK YOU to Bill and Sue Wills! They did several lectures but they were not sponsored by the ship and you had to know about them from Cruise Critic in order to get the time and place. The production shows were very good. The comedians were actually funny. Some of the singers were screamers so we left. The ship is older and showing her age. Everything was clean, but our shower had some rust and the balcony door shimmied if it was windy and they had to shut off the water twice during port days to fix plumbing things. One of the minor annoyances was the lack of a drawer under the desk, and a lack of shelf space. There were 5 drawers and that would have been plenty for 7 days, but for 14 days - it was not enough. Ports were less than exciting. Madeira, Cadiz, Alicante and Malaga all looked alike. I guess we should have expected that, but after you see 2 or 3 forts/castles - we were done. Read Less

This could have been a great cruise with some better speakers and more information. Previous cruises have included port talks and also guest speakers to talk about the civilisations and culture of the various regions, but this cruise had none of that. The dining room food and service was excellent as always. The cabin was good. The shows were very good and of a very high standard. There was too much emphasis on selling services . We were delayed leaving SAN Antonio but the captain caught up on the lost time and we arrived in our next port on time. The ports of Arica, Pisco and Lima were wonderful but I didn’t think much of Manta, this is probably my fault because we didn’t do an excursion in Manta, there is nothing to see except a small Artisan market. The ship is looking very old with rust showing everywhere, and the public areas are starting to look shabby.. Read Less

We usually cruise with Royal Carribean, but this itinerary appealed to us as a way back from a South America trip, so we decided to see what Modern Luxury is all about while wearing our Diamond Plus Royal Caribbean goggles. We have four previous cruises with Celebrity, the first ten years ago, and we thought we knew what to expect. EMBARKATION: Embarkation in San Antonio, Chile, was interesting. It is a commercial port trying to be a cruise terminal. After an hour and a half bus ride from the Santiago airport and checking in at a warehouse near the edge of the port, we were loaded onto yet another bus for a ride to the ship at the dock. We’ve seen better and we’ve seen worse, so we just went with the flow. We were in our cabin by 1:30 PM and our bags were delivered around 4:00 PM. CABIN: The cabin, 7049, was clean and comfortable. With more storage space than we needed – a first. Situated next to the hump cabins, we had an extra large, shaded balcony. The balcony door did not have a handle on the outside, just a slot to grab and pull the door open. The door was hard to open without a handle, but since it was designed that way, we lived with it. The toilet decided not to work in the middle of the night 4 out of the 15 nights on the cruise. Guest Relations said it was a known issue and they were working on it. CREW: Every crew member we encountered was smiling and said good morning or good evening – from restroom attendants to senior officers. Wait staff were attentive and efficient. Whomever is in charge of setting up disembarkation for port days did not do such a good job in Manta - more on that later. DINING: Oceanview Cafe – We disliked the Oceanview Café because it is so crowded with people wandering around trying to assemble a meal that it’s like the “Zombie Apocalypse” - as one fellow passenger described it. There is no clear delineation of flow for the serving lines and people just butt in where they please. We avoided eating meals there. When we did stop in for a snack, we noticed that the wooden chairs needed a good cleaning – there was so much dirt crusted on the back of one chair that I scraped some off to show one of the supervisors and merely received a shrug in response. MDR – We used the MDR for a few breakfasts and lunches just to steer clear of the buffet. A table for two may as well be a table for four, six, eight, or more since they are jammed together so closely that one cannot walk between the table. Service was good and the menu selections standard. We also ate some breakfasts and lunches in the Solarium Café, where it was easy to get a table and the selections were more healthful than other venues. The MDR in the evening was not at all pleasant and we only dined there on 10 of the 15 nights, opting for specialty dining on the other five evenings. The tables are very close and the other diners, probably deaf from the over-amplified music venues, seemed to shout their conversations during the meal. Shouting waiters added to the din. Not at all a pleasant atmosphere. The food, however was very good, well presented, and right-sized portions. Had the food not been so good, we would have avoided the MDR in the evenings because of the noise levels. Specialty dining – We ate in Qsine only once. The Qsine food was delicious but the menu on the electronic tablets was hard to understand and the waiter did little to help explain what was an appetizer and what was a main. Give me a regular menu. Sushi on 5 was wonderful, with a very attentive waiter and a wide variety of sushi to choose from. The Tuscan Grill was our favorite and we ate three evening meals there, and enjoyed a light morning breakfast and specialty coffee drinks there on most mornings. We enjoyed the atmosphere and service of the Specialty Dining venues, especially when compared to the MDR and Oceanview. ENTERTAINMENT: Since this varies from ship to ship, I won’t go into detail. The production shows were very good – but too over-amplified to be pleasant. Earplugs helped. The guest entertainers were also very good and not quite as over-amplified. PORTS: We booked the cruise primarily as transportation back from a land tour in South America, and not for the ports of call. We did walk around in Arica, Chile, and Georgetown, Grand Cayman, but did not book any excursions. The stop in Manta, however, is worth noting. Having been there before, we were undecided about going into town for a look around. The ship announced that free shuttle buses would be provided from the ship to the town center/shopping area. After the announcement was made that the gangway was open, we went down to the promenade deck to see how long the line for the shuttles was and determine if we should wait a while. There was no line – only a large mob of approximately 250-300 people waiting for the yet-to-appear shuttle buses. Celebrity did nothing to establish or control a line. When the first shuttle bus arrived, the mob surged and all 300 people tried to get on the first bus. We saw a fight breakout at the steps to the bus and one man trying to pull another man off the second step of the bus. At that point I ran down to Guest Relations and told them they needed to get security out there and that one fight had already broken out. I went back outside to the promenade to watch the most unorganized shuttle bus system I had ever witnessed. We decided to avoid the melee and have a peaceful day on the ship. One would think that Celebrity had never organized a port day or a shuttle bus system before. It was certainly a poor example of Modern Luxury. CHAIR HOGS: The Infinity made a feeble attempt to cut down on chair hogs with a few little folded placards placed on the pool and solarium loungers in the mornings, however with no enforcement, the chair hogs just pushed the placards aside and set up camp. I witnessed chair hogs “reserving” loungers and sunbeds as early as 6:00 AM, using a variety of towels, flip flops, magazines, paperbacks, and large plastic clips to hold the towels in place. Often those same loungers were “reserved” hours later – and on port days “reserved” all day long until the hogs returned from their excursions. Not once did I see any of the pool staff removing the chair hog nests. With no enforcement in place, more and more people started “reserving” loungers and sunbeds. Another poor example of Modern Luxury. DISEMBARKATION: Disembarkation from the ship in Fort Lauderdale was well organized, until we reached the Customs and Immigration lines. There were four agents to process some 2,100 passengers. Signs for “US and non-US” were not apparent and there was insufficient line management so that yet another mob formed adjacent to the bag retrieval area. We settled down in some chairs to wait out the mob, and only later discovered the mob was trying to get through the “Non-US” lines and the “US” line was almost empty. We gathered our bags and were through the immigration check in under 10 minutes – happily leaving the growing “Non-US” mob to be processed by only two agents. No wonder the Fort Lauderdale port has such a bad reputation on Cruise Critic. CONCLUSION: After watching Royal Caribbean turn into floating county fairs, and with Celebrity losing their “premium” luster to the mass market, it’s time to expand our horizons and find cruise lines that cater to grownups and offer a more genteel way to cruise. We choose this cruise for the itinerary and we are very glad we did. Yes, there we many sea days, but we found them relaxing because touring on the days in port were long and tiring. For us, it was a good mix. The Panama Canal with its expert narration by Bill Fall was outstanding. We have sailed on this ship before and loved it. This time the entertainment was poor and the food was lacking in quality. Service was excellent in the dining room and in the lounges. Our cabin steward was pleasant and very attentive. There was one hour of good entertainment (Celebrity Showtime) every evening. Most of the other things going on around the ship listed in the daily newsletter were just talks and seminars geared towards ways to spend your money. Embarkation was poorly organized. We have cruised on all of Royal Caribbean's big ships and embarkation took minutes to get all 4000 to 6000 passengers signed up and onboard. Celebrity is part of the RCI brand and should copy Royal Caribbean's efficient embarkation process. I would not take the Celebrity Infinity again. The ship is lovely and a little "tired" but without good entertainment and good food, we'll stay with Royal Caribbean. Read Less

This cruise catered to the retired folks so if you are retired and enjoy oldies music and a slower pace this cruise is for you!! My husband and I are in our early 40's and we took this cruise to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. We have done several other cruises and this one ranks near the bottom of our list. Felt very "nickeled and dimed" - everything extra came at a cost (ie. no iron in the room so had to pay for service to get clothes ironed, many of the classes they offered came at a cost). This was definitely unlike our previous cruise experiences. Entertainment was lacking in our opinion. Not enough variety in their shows and nothing to do in the evenings - lots of down time. The dancers/singers were terrible! Only two out of the 6 singers could actually sing! Our stateroom bathroom shower had a lot of mold and entire bathroom smelled badly (see attached pictures). The room steward did the best he could to help with the smell but we had to keep the bathroom door open at all times. My husband loves seafood and we avoided it the entire cruise because the fish tasted very fishy the couple of times we tried it. The food was otherwise good but not excellent. Had issue with getting an issue resolved at Guest Relations. We were supposed to get a refund on something and were told that it would be taken care of. Nobody got back to us. We went back to Guest Relations three different times and it took 4 days to get the issue resolved. When we insisted on speaking with the manager the issue was resolved in a few minutes! Overall, for the price we paid the overall quality of the cruise was definitely lacking!!! Read Less

The $18 above the regular added price for dry aged prime in Toscana was very tough as opposed to the very tender prime rib in the regular restaurant. Our waiter in the Trellis restaurant was the best and so we requested him thereafter. Didn't care for some of the shows but Broadway Show was excellent. Infinity had the best breakfast selections of many other cruise ships. The ports were good but we did our own tours. We mostly went to Trivia. The lectures which interested us were only given the sane time as Trivia. My husband tried to find a repeat of the lectures about the Panama Canal on TV but never found them. We were also surprised not to have gotten a final statement the last day but had to go to Guest Relations to get one. When we looked for one on the TV the last day, the account had been removed. They had to starting serving in the buffet instead of people serving themselves. There were taking extra precautions in sanitizing the ship...all the things they should have been doing from the beginning so people did not get sick. The entertainment was good for the most part. Since it was a repositioning cruise there were a lot of days at sea and they could have had more activities during the days at sea and a wider selection instead of the same things over and over. Going through the Panama Canal was amazing and well worth it if you have the chance. The staff was all very nice. Some of the shore excursions were good and some not what they advertised they were. When we complained about one, they offered a 10% credit!! The embarkation process was really awful...stood in line for 1 1/2 hours to be checked in. Since this was a South America cruise, they could have had more South American food, entertainment and music. Read Less

I booked this cruise because I was told that we would be going through the New Canal but we did not. I would not have gone because it was my third time through the Panama and one of the other times was on the Infinity also, the Blu restraunt is a very nice change from the large dining room, it is quieter and more relaxed service. We where in Aqua class cabin 9049 which has some noise issues no carpeting so you can hear walking over head and movement of chaiselounges in late night hours and early morning becauseit is under the solarium. The chef's table was a great experience well worth the up charge. The food and service was the high light of the cruise. The main Infinity shows entertainment was good but it was the same shows we had on the Millennium cruise to Alaska in June so it would have been nice to have something different. Read Less

Check-in took two and a half hours of standing in lines... a total mess! Celebrity did not even offer water, a place to sit (or an apology) for this agonizing wait. The ship itself appeared to be in good condition and the service was good. There was a constant parade of 'up selling' restaurant, internet and other services. It felt more like being in an endless timeshare sales pitch! The food variety (especially at breakfast) seemed very limited compared to other cruises we've been on and the food prep. very 'hit and miss'. The fish dishes (and we tried this over several nights) was consistently dry and / or 'fishy', as in old fish. Also, there were quite a number of people sick by the end of the cruise... not so good. The Panama canal and South America were the primary reasons for taking this cruise. We left Fort Lauderdale on December 9th and arrived in Valparaiso, Chile on December 24th 2016. Read Less

Even though we had visited most of these ports before, we loved them all and wanted to visit again. Started out staying in San Diego 3 nights before the cruise. Visited the zoo, which is a must, La Jolla, just beautiful, Coronado island, Gastown, Old Town, and would really recommend staying here as there is so much to do and see. Embarkation went smoothly and by 1:00 we were in our room. 8122. Very nice room with adequate balcony. Dinner this night was good and entertainment good too, Celebrity singers and dancers, which were very talented. Santa Barbara was our first port, which was a tender. Everything was run smoothly and we had a very enjoyable day just walking around this pretty little city. Volunteers right at the port were very helpful. Next stop was Monterey, where we rented a car with the couple we travelled with and took in Big Sur and Carmel for lunch. A must see. That night the dinner choices were not great and what we ended up with were the regular choices that are there nightly. Just average dinner. But our waiter happened to be the best waiter we have ever had for a cruise, and we have been on 40+. The show that night was fantastic, a young duo, male and female, 5 o'clock Somewhere, We, along with a good many people, followed and became "groupies" throughout the cruise. Unfortunately, the other venues were not very conducive to large groups of people which made it hard to listen and enjoy them. Next stop San Francisco for two nights. We've been here a few times and had met a friend, so just enjoyed walking around city both days and eating our way through. Finally a day at sea. Again, disappointing as there really isn't much going on so we decided to brave the outside and watch a movie upstairs on the top deck which was newly renovated. Nobody was around to order a drink or adjust volume on big screen that we couldn't here. So downstairs to customer service. We were told they were so sorry but movie can be watched in conference room. We made our way there and proceeded to sit on very uncomfortable conference room chairs so we decided to forgo this idea as well. After going back to customer service and inquiring why movie is not in theater on sea day when nothing else is going on was told entertainers were practicing and there was a talk about excursions (making money). More important! Astoria next stop. Not much doing here. Walk out to Pier 39 to view sea lions. Another day at sea and not much going on. Seattle next stop. Did our own thing with other couple. Chihuly Gardens which is not to be missed and Underground tour of Seattle. Interesting. Nanaimo, B.C. Next stop. Volunteers out helping visitors at port . Quaint little town, walking by water and into town. Lots of shops and eateries. Free shuttles back to ship. Victoria last day before the end. Great walking and exploring. We had been here before and enjoyed Butchart Gardens and what is now Fairmont Hotel. Took in shopping, Chinatown, etc and walk around houseboats near port. Very enjoyable. Disembarkation was easy. Stayed in Vancouver 3 additional nights. Overall, ship had good entertainment, but food was really lacking. Thank God for our waiter who made the most of a bad situation. The only decent meals were the first and second to last. Lunch buffet was equally bad. Will think long and hard before a return cruise on Celebrity. Read Less

although we had a great time on this cruise & loved the intinerrary, we were disappointed with the food among other things. the food in the buffet was really poor. we tried several times to eat there but were always upset with the food. we were not happy with the ding room food either. there were 3 or 4 nights the food was good, but not on the other 7 or 8 nights. when we complained to the head waiter he suggested that if we want a better meal we should choose the upgraded restaurants (at $39.00 each). the interior of the ship was clean & nice looking, but the outside was dirty looking & rusty. the shows were very good, but again, we were dissatisfied with the amount of entertainment provided. there was one show per night--that's it! after 10pm there was nothing to do except gamble. this cruise was a pacific coastal route. where the weather is somewhat cool. knowing this, you would think that the cruise line would have provided more chairs in the enclosed pool area. whenever we were on the ship this enclosed pool area was completely full. there were never enough chairs. i think it would have made sense to try to accomedate as many as possible into this area. the service was good all over the ship. we had a fantastic waiter named sergio in the main dining room. he made every meal a pleasure. Overall, it was an OK cruise. The MDR menu really need to refer to previous generations menus where there where more choices for each course. Now there are 'starters' and 'entrees'. Cabin 3130 was awesome if you are on an M class ship. Well placed for an Oceanview. Bistro on 5 needs a remake or make it free. We saw no more than 5 people in there at a time and mostly at dinner. Get real Celebrity! People aren't paying $10 for lunch!! Shows were OK. What really shines on the Infinty is the crew. All nice and attentive. Our MDR waiter was an absolute blast! The assistant was awesome too. Even our coffee shop guy was good, as well as the Martini server. Embarkation was smooth, but we were select so the special line was nice. We are now Elite, so next review we will tell more. We usually cruise in Concierge class, but this time was OpenView. It wasn't much different, just no balcony, but a huge window instead. I look forward to our Solstice cruise in May from Hawaii to Vancouver. Never been on the S classed ships. Read Less

The cruise was fine in general. But it was lack of activity on board. Cruise Director Sara was excellent, but she needed a team of helpers. Performances of dancers, singers and especially acrobats were excellent. Lecturers on board were mediocre in comparison with my previous cruises. They could not hold the topic of lectures and did some mistakes. Men sauna was in bad conditions. Window's frame inside the sauna was partially detached, maintenance of the place was really bad. There were no soap and shampoo in the dispensers in all three showers several times for several hours. I am really worried about safety of the sauna. I reported about window frame to an officer who was inspecting the sauna, but it took more then 24 hours to fix the problem. Actually the problem was fixed after I said to the same officer that I had taken pictures of detached fragments of the frame. Smoking area every evening and every night was just disgusting and filthy. Nobody looked after this area. Dirty glasses, mugs, ash trays, and tables covered with ash and stains were typical. Staff and crew members in some cases just ignored the passengers and their needs. Embarkation took terribly long and was very bad organized. Food was good and diverse enough. I was satisfied with excellent services in dinning rooms. However I had a bad experience in Quisine restaurant. The service provided by a waiter from Serbia (he did not have a tag with name and did not introduce himself) was totally unprofessional. He did not remember anything, I spent about 2 hours waiting at the table and 30 minutes eating. Service in Ocean view cafe was pretty good, but in many cases all coffee urns were empty at the same time. However maybe it was even for better, because coffee was just horrible. The ports were very interesting, the tours were exciting and impressive. This part of the cruise was excellent. In comparison with my previous cruise with Celebrity Infinity (December 2014, Panama Canal) this cruise was much worse. It seems the ship and it's maintenance are falling down. It was pity to see. This ship is in need of a complete overhaul, it is getting a little tattered and looking old. Shore excursions were not up to snuff, too much political discussions by the guides. When will the cruise lines quit taking bribes from vendors so that the excursions stop at certain shops. If I want to shop I will pick my own shopping destinations. Food was average, service was very good. Why can't people learn to wash their hands. The captain announces ways to prevent virus transmission every day on the intercom. Their are countless notices everyday in regard to virus prevention. And you still see morons not washing their hands after they go to the bathroom. You still see these same type of people sidestep the hand sanitizers when going to the buffet or restaurant. Stupid is what stupid does I guess. Disembarkment was a bit of a nightmare but things happen and it was handled as well as could be expected. A bit more information would have helped as the delays were extended. Read Less
