We wanted to see Mykonos, Athens and Santorini and have cruised with Celebrity on a number of occasions. Overall it was a decent itinerary with 8 x ports and 4 x days at sea. Good staff and some really good U K based performing acts in the theatre. Food overall was good but the main dining room menu is getting a bit stale and as such we ate in self service restaurant on a few occasions which was a nice change. We found it disappointing that we could not even try a Martini, using our drinks package, you needed premium, in the Martini Bar. In general the wines that we tried at night did not match the quality from previous Celebrity cruises. We booked three shore excursions through Celebrity and two through Cruising excursions, which on the whole were far better value than Celebrity. Although the ship was okay it is definitely looking very tired and in urgent need of a refit. We also enjoyed coffee at Al Bachio and the occasional confectionary on a daily basis. It was also nice to be sitting somewhere and one of the onboard entertainers would set up and start playing. Read Less

We had done the Panama Canal cruise about 10 years ago, and felt the need to see the wondrous Canal again—especially since there were some ports on this cruise we’d not visited before. Overall, Infinity did a good job of embarkation, disembarkation, port visits (including tendering) and offering comprehensive narration of the cruise through the canal. Everything went very smoothly, and staff was very courteous and friendly. Food on the cruise was below the standard we’ve enjoyed on previous Celebrity cruises. The Oceanview Cafe buffet and offerings for breakfast and lunch were fine, but the quality and variety in the main dining room was uneven from night to night as was the table service. Just a few nights into the cruise, we were handed a dinner menu that was the same as previous. And many of the usual items we’ve come to enjoy (e.g., osso buco, duck, tuna) were missing—cost cutting?). And whatever happened to waiters welcoming your arrival to the table, helping the lady to her seat and spreading a napkin? Do we now need to go to Specialty restaurants for that? On a positive note, the entertainment was excellent—very good musicians in all the lounges, and very good musicians and acts in the theatre. We were happy that there were far fewer of the usual, canned “singers and dancers” performances, and more outside, original talent. The bad news was very poor drink service in some of the lounges and at the bars—few waiters and very long waiting time for service. Some passengers suggested that the cruise line is making it harder for the many people with drink packages to maximize the value of their package. We had terrific service for our very clean balcony cabin, and all the cabin attendants were friendly, fast and efficient. The iLounge was well-staffed and friendly as well, as was the Gym and Spa areas. Infinity is the oldest Celebrity ship and, while it still has a lot of good nautical miles to go, it does need work. The furnishings were fine, but we found loose railings and planks in various places, sewer odors and multiple signs of sloppy repair work (e.g., paint on our balcony windows, sloppy cauking, etc.). We usually cruise with Royal Carribean, but this itinerary appealed to us as a way back from a South America trip, so we decided to see what Modern Luxury is all about while wearing our Diamond Plus Royal Caribbean goggles. We have four previous cruises with Celebrity, the first ten years ago, and we thought we knew what to expect. EMBARKATION: Embarkation in San Antonio, Chile, was interesting. It is a commercial port trying to be a cruise terminal. After an hour and a half bus ride from the Santiago airport and checking in at a warehouse near the edge of the port, we were loaded onto yet another bus for a ride to the ship at the dock. We’ve seen better and we’ve seen worse, so we just went with the flow. We were in our cabin by 1:30 PM and our bags were delivered around 4:00 PM. CABIN: The cabin, 7049, was clean and comfortable. With more storage space than we needed – a first. Situated next to the hump cabins, we had an extra large, shaded balcony. The balcony door did not have a handle on the outside, just a slot to grab and pull the door open. The door was hard to open without a handle, but since it was designed that way, we lived with it. The toilet decided not to work in the middle of the night 4 out of the 15 nights on the cruise. Guest Relations said it was a known issue and they were working on it. CREW: Every crew member we encountered was smiling and said good morning or good evening – from restroom attendants to senior officers. Wait staff were attentive and efficient. Whomever is in charge of setting up disembarkation for port days did not do such a good job in Manta - more on that later. DINING: Oceanview Cafe – We disliked the Oceanview Café because it is so crowded with people wandering around trying to assemble a meal that it’s like the “Zombie Apocalypse” - as one fellow passenger described it. There is no clear delineation of flow for the serving lines and people just butt in where they please. We avoided eating meals there. When we did stop in for a snack, we noticed that the wooden chairs needed a good cleaning – there was so much dirt crusted on the back of one chair that I scraped some off to show one of the supervisors and merely received a shrug in response. MDR – We used the MDR for a few breakfasts and lunches just to steer clear of the buffet. A table for two may as well be a table for four, six, eight, or more since they are jammed together so closely that one cannot walk between the table. Service was good and the menu selections standard. We also ate some breakfasts and lunches in the Solarium Café, where it was easy to get a table and the selections were more healthful than other venues. The MDR in the evening was not at all pleasant and we only dined there on 10 of the 15 nights, opting for specialty dining on the other five evenings. The tables are very close and the other diners, probably deaf from the over-amplified music venues, seemed to shout their conversations during the meal. Shouting waiters added to the din. Not at all a pleasant atmosphere. The food, however was very good, well presented, and right-sized portions. Had the food not been so good, we would have avoided the MDR in the evenings because of the noise levels. Specialty dining – We ate in Qsine only once. The Qsine food was delicious but the menu on the electronic tablets was hard to understand and the waiter did little to help explain what was an appetizer and what was a main. Give me a regular menu. Sushi on 5 was wonderful, with a very attentive waiter and a wide variety of sushi to choose from. The Tuscan Grill was our favorite and we ate three evening meals there, and enjoyed a light morning breakfast and specialty coffee drinks there on most mornings. We enjoyed the atmosphere and service of the Specialty Dining venues, especially when compared to the MDR and Oceanview. ENTERTAINMENT: Since this varies from ship to ship, I won’t go into detail. The production shows were very good – but too over-amplified to be pleasant. Earplugs helped. The guest entertainers were also very good and not quite as over-amplified. PORTS: We booked the cruise primarily as transportation back from a land tour in South America, and not for the ports of call. We did walk around in Arica, Chile, and Georgetown, Grand Cayman, but did not book any excursions. The stop in Manta, however, is worth noting. Having been there before, we were undecided about going into town for a look around. The ship announced that free shuttle buses would be provided from the ship to the town center/shopping area. After the announcement was made that the gangway was open, we went down to the promenade deck to see how long the line for the shuttles was and determine if we should wait a while. There was no line – only a large mob of approximately 250-300 people waiting for the yet-to-appear shuttle buses. Celebrity did nothing to establish or control a line. When the first shuttle bus arrived, the mob surged and all 300 people tried to get on the first bus. We saw a fight breakout at the steps to the bus and one man trying to pull another man off the second step of the bus. At that point I ran down to Guest Relations and told them they needed to get security out there and that one fight had already broken out. I went back outside to the promenade to watch the most unorganized shuttle bus system I had ever witnessed. We decided to avoid the melee and have a peaceful day on the ship. One would think that Celebrity had never organized a port day or a shuttle bus system before. It was certainly a poor example of Modern Luxury. CHAIR HOGS: The Infinity made a feeble attempt to cut down on chair hogs with a few little folded placards placed on the pool and solarium loungers in the mornings, however with no enforcement, the chair hogs just pushed the placards aside and set up camp. I witnessed chair hogs “reserving” loungers and sunbeds as early as 6:00 AM, using a variety of towels, flip flops, magazines, paperbacks, and large plastic clips to hold the towels in place. Often those same loungers were “reserved” hours later – and on port days “reserved” all day long until the hogs returned from their excursions. Not once did I see any of the pool staff removing the chair hog nests. With no enforcement in place, more and more people started “reserving” loungers and sunbeds. Another poor example of Modern Luxury. DISEMBARKATION: Disembarkation from the ship in Fort Lauderdale was well organized, until we reached the Customs and Immigration lines. There were four agents to process some 2,100 passengers. Signs for “US and non-US” were not apparent and there was insufficient line management so that yet another mob formed adjacent to the bag retrieval area. We settled down in some chairs to wait out the mob, and only later discovered the mob was trying to get through the “Non-US” lines and the “US” line was almost empty. We gathered our bags and were through the immigration check in under 10 minutes – happily leaving the growing “Non-US” mob to be processed by only two agents. No wonder the Fort Lauderdale port has such a bad reputation on Cruise Critic. CONCLUSION: After watching Royal Caribbean turn into floating county fairs, and with Celebrity losing their “premium” luster to the mass market, it’s time to expand our horizons and find cruise lines that cater to grownups and offer a more genteel way to cruise. I would like to describe our (my wife and me) cruise experience in some details. I hope it helps people to select, or not, this specific cruise itinerary, cruise ship and even the cruise line for future trips. Just a trip overview, we booked a veranda cabin, deck 8, in the Celebrity Infinity, for the Buenos Aires > Puerto Madryn > Ushuaia > Antartica (Paradise Bay and Elephant Island) > Falkland Island > Montevideo > Buenos Aires itinerary. It was a somewhat expensive itinerary if compared to other cruises in the region, so our expectations were high. We planned this trip for almost a year. The cruise left Buenos Aires on 21th Jan 2018. About a week before the departure date we received an email from Celebrity Cruises informing the Puerto Madryn stop was canceled. Copy and pasting their own email message: "Due to a technical issue with the ship’s propulsion system, as a precaution, we will have to reduce our maximum speed by a few knots. We assure you, there is no safety issue with the vessel; however, due to the speed reduction, we have to modify our itinerary. Some ports of call will have shortened visit times, while some will have more time. We also had to remove our visit to Puerto Madryn, Argentina from the itinerary. Due to the cancellation of this port of call, we are issuing each guest a refund in the amount equal to one day of your vacation." My wife and I planned to dive in Puerto Madryn with the sea lions. All our scuba gear was already packed to go and the dive package reserved at a local PADI agent. You can imagine our frustration... We embarked on the 21th as planned. About Celebrity Infinity, despite some review we read, it is not falling apart. It is indeed an old ship, somewhat worn out. Stained carpets, peeling paint, scratches here and there are visible, but we consider those minor things. I noticed, however, some other not so minor problems, like leaking plumbing in several places (that left wet spots on the carpets), air conditioning failures (that left some friends in internal rooms overheating), external doors hard to open/close, and massive temperature changes in the hot/cold water supplies. There were also some smaller annoyances in our stateroom, like loose tiles in the bathroom floor and leaks in the shower hoses. We usually ignore these small things, but as you see ahead, events stack up. About the food, it was nice and plentiful. All restaurants we went to were nice. Particularly I would say that some dish on the main dining room, Trelis, was somewhat small (especially the ones with expensive ingredients) and with unexpected component mixes, but this is a matter of taste. The buffet on Deck 11 always had food for any taste. About the entertaining, it was ok. Some shows were really nice while some other were somewhere below passable. The daily activities were plenty, somewhat focused on luxury activities (like art auctions, jewelry sales, Fabergé egg showcase and sales, liquor tastings, and so one). It perhaps makes sense for the overall target audience, mostly senior guests. One of the highlights of this cruise was the presentations from the destination experts. The presentations were really interesting and made de experience must more enjoyable and immersive. The presentation themes included wildlife identification and behavior, destination highlights, geographic features, historical events and even a recent rescue mission to Antartica from the Argentinian navy. There was much effort to provide the same presentations in English and Spanish, so most people would benefit and enjoy all given information. It is also important to note the crew was always friendly and eager to help. Our stateroom attendant and some other personnel we had more contact with during the cruise were very professional and cordial. After few days on the sea, we reached Ushuaia. We visited Escondido/Fasano lake and the experience was really memorable. Since we did not stop at Puerto Madryn we were able to stay in Ushuaia for a few more hours. We headed to Antartica, our main and most anticipated destination. The weather was really good during our stay and the visibility was great. We had the luck to get some snow while entering Paradise Bay. It was quite a spectacle. It is really difficult to describe in words the beauty we saw. While it looks a desolated region, it is full of life. We could see whales, penguins, many different types of birds. The icebergs are also a show apart, featuring beautiful shapes, textures, and colors. We also stopped at Elephant Island, the second sightseeing place. After Elephant Island, when heading back to Falkland Island, a major storm formed in our way and the captain had to deviate our corse, missing Falkland port of call. His decision was the correct one due to the bad weather, however, no one was able to explain why the next port of call wasn't changed to Puerto Madryn. Apparently, the route would be even safer than going straight to Montevideo and, we had the time since Falkland stop was completely skipped. It was really strange and until now I got no answer from Celebrity guest relations about this. On the memo we received in our stateroom: "We would like to inform you that our call to Port Stanley, Falkland Islands, has been canceled, due to adverse weather and high winds. (...) Tomorrow, January 31th, the Celebrity Infinity will be at sea, since weather conditions and distance to alternative ports will not allow us to call an alternative port. In an effort to avoid the rough seas, we are traveling directly to Montevideo through an alternative route, as your safety is our top priority. We will be arriving in Montevideo at 6:00 am on February 3rd" We understood the situation and weather changes are a risk involved in all Cruises, however, this port miss and strange deviation from Puerto Madryn just stacked up on our frustration pile. We then faced many days at sea, finally arriving at Montevideo. It was a nice stop, however, I (and many other guests I spoke with) would rather stop in other ports then in Montevideo. Montevideo is really close to Buenos Aires and you can easily go by car, bus or even boat in a couple hours. Puerto Madryn and Falkland Island, on another hand, are much harder and expensive to get to. In the end, the trip left really good memories about Antartica sightseeing experience and a bitter taste for itinerary changes and other smaller annoyances. We felt only half of the trip was actually delivered since we could not stop at Puerto Madryn and Falkland Island. Looking in retrospect, if we could changes things, we would rather flight straight to Ushuaia and book a cruise on a smaller ship just to experience Antartica. Read Less

After two great cruises on the Celebrity Equinox and Silhouette, we decided to try the smaller, older ship because of the itinerary. We certainly enjoyed the cruise and the ports, but things could definitely be improved on the Infinity. Positives: Our cabin was comfortable. Our stateroom attendant was fabulous. The concierge was amazing and never failed to come through for us, despite how crazy the requests were. Main room dining was decent and the waitstaff did a great job. The onboard orchestra was fabulous, and the singers and dancers were friendly and approachable. The officers were also easily accessible and approachable. The Celebrity Life activities were amazing. MickeyLive and the Naturalist always had informative presentations. The port reviews were factual and avoided the pitches of other cruise lines. The Future Cruise team was knowledgeable and helpful and you never had to wait. Negatives: Internet: We prepaid for the internet and our login code was supposed to be delivered to our stateroom. It was not and the tech staff in the iLounge was condescending and rude when we asked for it. The internet seemed to crash almost every morning. The free sites (e.g. Celebrity.com) worked, but the authentication server on the ship was down and prevented normal internet use. Photo Shop: We made the mistake of purchasing the cruise video. The quality was awful and fully 20% was taken up with videos of people having their boarding photos taken. It was a total waste of the DVD, let alone the money we spent. Guest Relations: There were endless lines at guest relations. The folks working there were either poorly trained or unempowered to solve problems. Usually they forwarded issues on to others rather than solving them. This made the service times extremely slow for routine requests. Onboard video channels were low resolution and grainy. The food in the buffet was uninspired and repetitive. Since we also recently completed a 31 day cruise on the Holland America Noordam, it made comparisons. In general we found that the food on Holland America was more varied. Everyone seemed to be genuinely friendly and helpful. In room comment cards were collected daily and issues were acted on immediately and followed up on. Despite being on a back to back, entertainment was not repeated. On the other hand, the port information sessions were sales pitches. You had to make an appointment with the future cruise consultant several days in advance and she was absolutely worse than useless except for handing out brochures. Read Less

The Infinity is a comfortable ship with a relaxing atmosphere. We didn't experience the status of the ship as being in need of an overhaul (as some other reviewers thought). The crossing of the canal was a bit of a disappointment. Good views of the proceedings were hard to get because of big masses (which of course was to be expected). Moreover the activities are that slow that it is not as impressive as expected. This experience was intensivied by the fact that we were very tired because of it had been impossible to sleep the night before due to very poor pary planning (see below). Dining with open seating worked wonderful: we never had to wait. The food was OK, but certainly using somewhat cheaper base materials then was the case a few years ago on another Celebrity ship. Much pasta's and only once a good steak (tournedos). Luckely lobster was still served 1 night. Production shows (3x) were great. However on quite a lot of nights there comedians were programmed as theatre entertainment, which are of no use for non native English speaking guests. It would be preferrable if more music or show type entertainment was programmed. The programming of day activities during sea days was not well directed at type of passengers (mainly retired seniors): primarely sports and dancing activities. The few lectures (which were very interesting and well attended) were all scheduled in the early morning, making it impossible to sleep a bit longer. Sometimes even 2 lectures in the same morning while during the afternoon no lectures were scheduled as well. A few classes were given on photo and movie editing. Unfortunately only directed at users of Apple products, which is not interesting for many guests. Afternoon lectures and movies in the theatre were badly missing. It would be nice if the afternoon tea would have been served in the Constellation Lounge, accompanied by e.g. the string duo. Such would have resulted in a much more festive atmosphere and a real attractive activity then serving it in the somewhat bare Ocienview Cafe. E.g. Oceania is organising the tea that way, one of the reasons they are considered as more luxureous. The planning of evening activities other then the theatre shows was pretty awkward, taking into account the demographic constitution of the passengers. There were quite a lot of parties with very loud music and games directed on a younger party crowd. We observed that on several occasions only a small minority of appx. 100 people attended these parties, consisting next to a few younger passengers for a considerable part of staff members and their families. Where the highlight of the cruise was the crossing of the Panama Canal, a Rock & Roll party was scheduled in the Grand Foyer for the night before (untill well after midnight). This in spite of the fact that it was advised to be up on deck by 6 in the morning. By consequence it was absolutely impossible to sleep in the nearby staterooms, effectively ruining the experience of the canal crossing (too tired because of not sleeping). Complaints to the cruise director were rejected in a quite arrogant and rude way. A promise to discusse it the next day was not effectuated. A later complaint to the Hotel dircted resulted yet in an apology and the offer to change stateroom. Staterooms are pretty spacious and well equipped, with a modern feeling to it. Be aware that in the Grand Foyer sometimes very loud music is played untill after midnight, which makes staterooms nearby (specially on deck 6) less attractive. Service by the cabin stewards and in the restaurant was excellent. Although it is fairly common that bar prices on cruise ships are pretty high, we experienced the prices on the Infinity (compared to over 30 cruises made before) the most outrageously high. E.g. (including service fee) $ 6 for a cappucino and $14 for a coctail. We had 2 excursions from the ship (Antiqua + the Ebrera tour from Colon) which were organised well. Read Less

This cruise was chosen to spend some valued time with good friends. This was the second time traveling through the Panama Canel . The first time it was with the Holland America Zuiderman. The family balcony on the Infinity was long with a small setting room in front of the bedroom which made the bedroom to be dark. The steward keep the room somewhat clean but he was always helpful when asked for anything. Two bottles of wine were given to us throughout the cruise which we didn't expect. I also had some a cosmetic procedures with Andrea and she was outstanding. The results were great. When ordering room service 3 separate times they forgot us. The ports were fun and interesting .The food was good everywhere on the ship. The free therapy spa pool was real plus for the ship. Overall the cruise was not bad. We never felt crowed...people were always spread out through out the ship. Read Less

Good Points: Lots of storage inside cabin Very Clean Great entertainment ( The shows were excellent and the live music was good) Great Itinerary Great view of Hubbard Glacier Excellent waiter in Trellis dining room Food in Qsine was average but very expensive Embarkation and Disembarkation went very smoothly Cons: Rude Staff throughout the entire ship. Never saw our room steward. we had to call every day for ice Food was often cold, tasteless, and undercooked The layout of the ship was very unusual. There was a large staircase in the main foyer. There was often live music in this area. No place to sit or dance. Really odd. The weather was terrible so many outdoor activities could not take place. There were no other activities available. In fact, our group trip (47 people) started on June 15 with a day in Victoria and then two days, June 16 and 17 in Vancouver. Embarkation on 18 June. June 15 - Day-3. Take off at 8:00 am, arrive Vancouver at 10:00 am local time, transfer by luxury bus, comfortable, to take the ferry to Victoria on Vancouver Island, a journey of nearly 1:30. It's not nice, 14-15 degrees; rain and thick fog during much of the crossing. We take a small dinner at the ship's self-serve restaurant; while it is not cheap, at least, variety and quality are there; we begin to fraternize a little more with our compatriots of the group, We take a seat on the bus, and we go to meet our local French-speaking guide, a friendly resident of Victoria for over 40 years, for a pleasant city tour but punctuated by showers ... Transfer to our hotel and freestyle evening. June 16 - Day-2 Disastrous breakfast at the hotel, then lead to the visit of Butchart Gardens. The place is beautiful, huge, but the hour and a half we were allocated was not enough, we had to go back to the bus before we saw it all (this is one of the constraints of traveling in group). Return to Vancouver aboard a newer ferry, probably a little bigger, including a buffet restaurant. Partly cloudy, allowing us to take some nice pictures. Transfer to our hotel for 2 nights. Free walks around, and Canada Place, the cruise terminal, are 1.5 km, a walk of about 20 minutes. We will see before the arrival of ours, several ships docked including the Holland America Niew Amsterdam, the Star Princess and the Crystal Serenity. We stop for a short supper on our own, at the nearby Food Court - Waterfront Center, a diversified and reasonably priced food fair. June 17 - Day-1 Breakfast at the hotel, a well-stocked and quality buffet this time ... We meet for our city tour our local guide, knowledgeable... and installed on the outskirts of Vancouver ... In the city center a lot of construction of business towers and condos, which seems to cost a lot ... I am pleased withthe architectural beauty of these buildings, neighboring older ones. Stopping at Stanley Park, well laid out and quite busy, there are some totems to see. Stop at Granville Island, there is also a lack of time, but I could still see the famous floating houses. After the city tour, free time for quiet walks, a little shopping, etc. It crawls from everywhere despite the weather not so clement. Then we think and anticipate our embarkment the next day... June 18th - Day 1 - Embarkation. Heavy breakfast at the hotel, bus to the cruise terminal ... Cloudy with showers. You may be on a Sunday, but there is an important traffic, since at the port there are several ships to fill ... But hey, finally it's embarkation. In the process at the terminal we go through the US customs. Once on board, little sparkling wine, and with the Today "Early Edition" in hand, the group disperses to go on each own and for a quick lunch ... This time, my experience makes me avoid the Oceanview Café, too busy, we go to the Spa Café, adjacent to the indoor pool, for a good healthy lunch, it's very small but there is hardly anyone! A short reconnaissance tour of the ship, it reminds us of the Constellation that we sailed 6 years ago, and despite the renovations, we noticed everywhere several elements betraying its 16 years of age. A little later we go to see if our cabin is ready (balcony cat 2B, bridge 8); smaller than on Solstice class ships, there are also signs of wear, including on furniture and especially in the bathroom. The small shower has a curtain, the caulking is stained with several blackish molds, the grout of the ceramic looks dirty and I will learn later from our stateroom steward that it had been redone with epoxy grout (tiles were obviously not cleaned rapidly) ... There is a clothesline in the shower, it's quite weird to see this... After having changed clothing, we go to the Muster Drill scheduled at 15:30, then to the bridge 11 to attend the departure at 16:30 .... Despite the sullen weather, feverishness is palpable. Unlike the majority of the group, my wife and I chose the 'Select Dining' so we could go for supper at our leisure between 5.30pm and 9:00pm (same schedule for the entire cruise). Even if we were invited to book, without reservation, between 5.30pm and 6pm, we never waited more than 2-3 minutes ... While there was often a good line on the side with reservation. Celebrity Showtime: Lou Gazzara, versatile vocalist, a beautiful repertoire and a great presence on stage. June 19 - Day 2 - At Sea (Inside Passage) It's not complicated, we did not see much of the famous inside passage, given the weather (low clouds, rain, etc). On the other hand, there was the conference "Beyond the Podium - MickeyLive", Mickey being a great lecturer, knowledgeable and visibly at ease with audiovisual technology. The rest of the day, nothing special. Celebrity Showtime - Boogie Wonderland, a musical revue focusing on the 70s. Quite good. Tonight we set watches 1 hour back.. June 20th - Day 3 - Sitka AK Arrival at 10:00 am, cloudy weather but it will not rain much, eventually. Celebrity Excursion (SI14), which combines the historical and cultural aspects of the city (historical park, Tlingit culture, Naa Kahidi dance) and a visit to the Raptor center. Interesting but the schedule was a bit tight, we had to shorten the visit to some places (eg, since the dance show was good but redundant, it could have been shorter). Tonight, no show for us: a certain Bengt Washburn, standup comedy ... No interest for us.. June 21 - Day 4 - Hubbard Glacier (navigation) Exceptionally we were given access to the front of the ship (level bridge 6) to admire the landscape, the view is different from what we have decks 11 or 12. Outdoor temperature about 8-9 Celcius degrees. I must say that I felt "at the end of the world" ... I imagine that those who have already cruised in Antarctica may think I am impressionable ... We were disappointed that the ship had not approached the glacier, - was there a good reason? And the dull weather did not help for taking good quality pictures. Celebrity Showtime: «Star Factory», lively, beautiful musical and acrobatic performances, beautiful costumes, etc. June 22 - Day 5 - Juneau AK Excursion Celebrity (JU33): Basically, the visit of the Mendenhall Glacier and its visitor Center, views of the surroundings with beautiful photo opportunities and interesting little film where I learned about the glaciers; then we go to the "Gold Creek Salmon Bake" for a picnic buffet in a nice environment to savor wood fire grilled wild Alaskan salmon, a delight! (There is also grilled chicken). In accompaniment, various salads, potatoes, etc, and delicious "Chilkoot" beans! Chansonnier on site for musical atmosphere. A beautiful outing. Our travel guide invited us to have a drink at the "Red Dog Saloon" (with floors covered with a good layer of sawdust, a tradition... Celebrity Showtime with Sean O'Shea, singer and talented impersonator, with energy and humor. June 23rd - Day 6 - Ketchikan AK Last of our 3 stops, arrived at 2:00PM, the small town is friendly and we can explore a good part by foot without problem. Excursion Celebrity (KE61): guided tour of historical sites including a park of totems, and lumberjack show. Celebrity Showtime: "Duo Destiny", Gonçalo and Kinga, a couple of acrobats frankly surprising. Tonight we set watches 1 hour forward. June 24 - Day 7 - At Sea (Inside Passage) This time the weather is on our side, we can observe the landscape and the temperature rises quickly, about 25 Celsius degrees (it will have made more than 28 degrees in Vancouver). Swimming and sunbathing for many passengers ... Celebrity Showtime: iBroadway, a colorful and typically American style show of recent and older hits. We do not put our luggage in the corridor tonight, we'll leave carrying them tomorrow morning. June 25 - Disembarkation The process is going well, both on board and in port. At the airport it's going bad, at the AC check-in counter it is very long for lack of open desks... Vancouver-Montreal flight without problem. Back home! Conclusion: although I have always appreciated Celebrity, we see that cuts have still been made. We still eat well but it is not the same ... For example, one lunchtime, exceptionally we went to the dining room and my dish really was not the way we could get of Celebrity (ground meat containing "crunchy", badly cooked peas and dubious appearance ...) I mentioned my disappointment to the waiter, who by his reply let me believe that I was not the only one to have told him. As far as the Oceanview Café is concerned, I prefer the island arrangement on Solstice class ships. On this itinerary there were many Asians and Indians on board, and every day, this is normal, a large part of the counters offered dishes from their countries ... While on the other hand other counters lacked variety. We have nothing against exotic foods but not every day ... The Infinity is a comfortable but dated vessel, the staff is benevolent but less visible, except during marketing operations, obviously ... It becomes harassing crew members trying to sell drinks or dining packages, etc. .... By the way, there is now only one stateroom steward, no more assistant. I also noticed a reduction in the Captain's Club benefits .... Now it's enough to make us ogle on other companies. Finally, depending on the circumstances, a group travel may prove to be interesting and advantageous; I think this time it was and we liked it... But the ship is disappointing. Read Less

My husband and I are in our early 40's and we took this cruise to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. We have done several other cruises and this one ranks near the bottom of our list. Felt very "nickeled and dimed" - everything extra came at a cost (ie. no iron in the room so had to pay for service to get clothes ironed, many of the classes they offered came at a cost). This was definitely unlike our previous cruise experiences. Entertainment was lacking in our opinion. Not enough variety in their shows and nothing to do in the evenings - lots of down time. The dancers/singers were terrible! Only two out of the 6 singers could actually sing! Our stateroom bathroom shower had a lot of mold and entire bathroom smelled badly (see attached pictures). The room steward did the best he could to help with the smell but we had to keep the bathroom door open at all times. My husband loves seafood and we avoided it the entire cruise because the fish tasted very fishy the couple of times we tried it. The food was otherwise good but not excellent. Had issue with getting an issue resolved at Guest Relations. We were supposed to get a refund on something and were told that it would be taken care of. Nobody got back to us. We went back to Guest Relations three different times and it took 4 days to get the issue resolved. When we insisted on speaking with the manager the issue was resolved in a few minutes! Overall, for the price we paid the overall quality of the cruise was definitely lacking!!! Read Less

The $18 above the regular added price for dry aged prime in Toscana was very tough as opposed to the very tender prime rib in the regular restaurant. Our waiter in the Trellis restaurant was the best and so we requested him thereafter. Didn't care for some of the shows but Broadway Show was excellent. Infinity had the best breakfast selections of many other cruise ships. The ports were good but we did our own tours. We mostly went to Trivia. The lectures which interested us were only given the sane time as Trivia. My husband tried to find a repeat of the lectures about the Panama Canal on TV but never found them. We were also surprised not to have gotten a final statement the last day but had to go to Guest Relations to get one. When we looked for one on the TV the last day, the account had been removed. The venue .... Antarctica..... lured us to this cruise and it was everything we imagined and more. Embarcation was a near disaster as we waited in Buenos Aires port with hundreds in an un-airconditioned, chaotic facilty, where the computer system failed. No Celebrity staff were present to let us know what was happening. Disembarcation was normal. The ship was well-done with a fair amount of wood, modern sculpture, but lacked the "wow". The 3rd to 4th floor atrium was about it. The cabin was average size with enough storage space.. Apart from the excellent service (Cabin staff and restaurant management and staff were super efficient, polite and anxious to please),marketing was at every turn. Buy this upgrade that. All restaurants incurred a minimum of $35-65 per person plus the 18% tax...plus the corkage on a bottle of wine of $30. It seemed all nickle-and-dime : bottled water (had to be purchased for 2, if you were two) came to $32/day; drink package at $65 pp did not included any drinks over $7..such as martinis for $15 extra. he gym charged extra for yoga and pilates classes, amongst others. Many of the dinners in the Trellis dining Room were fine, but the same old green beans and smashed potatoes appeared nightly...not too creative. We found the desserts "OK", but usually ended us with our safety - ice cream. The Baked Alaska was our biggest disappointment, having had it on our last cruise on a different line. Special events such as sail-aways, did not offer a glass of champagne or a drink. There was no Captain´s dinner..unless you were a member of the special class...nor was there a Captains/plus crew welcoming party, as we had experienced on other lines. The Entertainment Director, Alejandro (the great), from Buenos Aires, saved the day. There were some good shows, not all. And the ports were beautifully explained by a pro, "Ranger John", who would meet anyone in private/on deck and explain almost every animal species. Ports were good - Antarctica was excellent. Shore excursions were pricey - more than 2X-3X what the locals were charging for the same tours. The Ushuaia excursion was offered at about $200/ pp, but we found a similar one, with a local taxi driver for $80 per couple, for 4 full hours. Very few children on this (or any long 14 day cruise). Would probably not return to this line or ship. Read Less

After several cruises with Celebrity including some in Aqua class on Solstice class ships and the Millennium class Constellation the back to back cruises of 14 days in Aqua on the Infinity were only average and did not rise to the level of our other trips. Dining- Blu was only average for food quality and our service time was very long until we found a really good waiter (Armando). Dining room seemed undersized for the # of cabins and had to wait much more often than Solstice ships. Ate at Qsine twice, once each for lunch and dinner, and it was outstanding. The Oceanview Cafe buffet was quite limited and offered the same choices virtually every day. Some of the serving pans were very hard to reach and the staff seemed in no rush to keep them fresh. The poached egg station was good with the eggs cooked to order well. Cabin 9106- All Aqua 2 cabins are under the Lido deck so noise can be a problem. This particular cabin was under a prep area so there was a lot of after hours noise. Location was good. Cabin had good storage and size was adequate. Could have used a shower head with a stronger stream. Entertainment- Theater acts were all good with a couple of very good production shows. Lounge music was not to our liking with no string groups as other Celebrity ships and the bands were more of the " party" variety than dance bands. Piano and guitar vocalists were poor to average. Almost no afternoon musical entertainment except on pool deck. Spa- Persian Garden was a disappointment compared to Solstice class. It was in the middle of the ship, small and dark. No lounges, only a kind of "sofa" which we both found uncomfortable. The Thessalotherapy pool in the solarium was very relaxing (it is open to all guests). Bars- Bar service was mostly slow usually from under staffing as was the Cafe al Bacio. Table service was slow to nonexistent. On the whole an adequate experience, but would not rush to sail the Infinity again soon and certainly not pay extra for Aqua class. One thing I have noticed on all Celebrity ships in the past is that the officers were very visible throughout the cruise and interacted a lot with the guests about their experience. I saw very little or none of that aboard the Infinity. As a whole the crew was polite, but not particularly friendly. Training seemed to be lacking and communication was sometimes a problem. Ship is old and had many signs of rust and peeling paint on it, had a foul smell of sewer in many of the halls, entertainment was great, ports and excursions were good, some of the ports were scarie,did not like being charged $4.95 for room service after 11:30 pm even if it is tea or coffee! service was just good. many things are not as good as royal carribean cruises. i would not recommend this ship. the entertainment was great. Very nice cruise, We are seniors and have done about 48 cruises on various lines. We have done about 10 coastal cruises along the Pacific coast and have previously visited most of the ports on this cruise. Our primary reason for taking this cruise was the entertainment, food, and a close to home get a way. We live about 120 miles north of San Francisco. We drove down to the bay area and stayed the night previous to our flight at the El Rancho Hotel in Millbrae. We have done this several times. When a cruise starts in San Francisco, we have the hotel shuttle take us to SFO where we get the cruise ship bus to the port in SF. On this trip, we had had a 6 AM flight to Vancouver. We were up to catch the shuttle at 4 AM. The flight was smooth and our customs check in Vancouver was also. They have a new system at the airport that allows Americans to pass through customs with a minimum of time lost. It is a BIG improvement over our last time at this airport. You just slap you passport on a screen at one of the machines, get a receipt and you are on your way. If you have any problems, there is a helper there to answer any questions. Otherwise, you wait in VERY LONG lines to get up to talk with an inspector. We were through and out the door in about 5 minutes. We expected a traffic jam at the port, because members of the British Royal Family were visiting the port area about the time we were supposed to arrive. We were pleasantly surprised when the bus sailed right through and we were dropped off at Canada Place. We did have to wait for about a half hour before boarding, but we were on the ship before noon. The cabins were not ready until 1 o’clock, so we had lunch at the lido restaurant and waited on deck until then. Cabin We had a balcony cabin located mid ship. It was a typical cabin with vanity, small couches, and king size bed. On each side of the bed was a two-drawer night strand. The light in my reading lamp was not adequate, but the one on my wife’s side was better. The balcony was small, but had two chairs and a small table that were adequate. The bath had two shelves for storage and the typically large Celebrity stall shower. Our only objection was that the life boats were directly below the balcony and blocked the view of the water below. Our cabin steward took very good care of the room. Perks We booked this cruise with a travel agent because of an email ad we received from them. It was a president’s cruise attended by the president of the travel agency and several of her employees and had some extra perks included. They turned out to be not worth the cost. Some, like the slot contest, were actually an added cost. At first it looked like a good deal, but we later found otherwise. All the cruise lines recently started to provide bonuses like drink packages and pre-paid tips as an inducement to book with them, but in reality they just added the cost of these items to the regular booking price. If you wait until a month or so before the cruise, you will probably be able to get a much better price and paying for the extras yourself will be cheaper than taking the so-called bonuses. We found that the drink package was the biggest loser as we seldom have more than one or two drinks each day. We also used the package for purchase of water, the cost of which has really gotten out of hand. However, the water and liquor in the cabin could not be charged against the package as it did not qualify. We had to buy the large water bottles at a bar and take them back to our cabin. This actually turned out for the best as the Evian water in the cabin tasted terrible. The bars had a different brand that was much better. Food Celebrity has always been known for serving good quality beef. That is still true, by the best quality cuts are not served as often as before and more stews and similar types of beef are now more prevalent in the main dining room. The food served in the lido restaurant has always been somewhat tasteless or over spiced and that has not changed. On this trip, there seemed to be a larger percentage of Asian food available and less American. The soups in this restaurant were terrible. The redeeming item was the breads. They were always good at all the restaurants. The service in both restaurants was always excellent. We did not eat at any of the specialty restaurants. Shows Celebrity shows have never been as good as Royal Caribbean shows. That seems strange as both lines are owned by the same company. Those on this cruise were just OK with very memorable. Summary, Overall, it was a good cruise with great weather and smooth seas most of the way. We had no rain at any stops and very little wind. The temperature everywhere was very comfortable. The high point of the cruise was being able to stand on the top deck of the ship in San Francisco and watch the Blue Angels put on their show during Fleet Week. We have seen them perform several time, but never had seats like this before. It was spectacular. Read Less

Went to check on dining plan which was booked for any time dinning we were told our agent had changed it to 830 pm not impressed first night sat on table for two next night table for six with just one other couple ,on the 4th night another couple had joined us who also sat on there own but ask for a table for of six all a bit hit and miss Menu not good same most nights Outside cabin very small with a tiny shower towels were grey bed linen pass . .Tours were not cheap but did three weather was sunny and warm after packing hat scarf gloves and lots of layers Went to the theatre 4 times very good . One evening went to the Bistro ordered a beef Panini it was over toasted had to take the meat out because I could not cut it did complain but no joy bit of a shambles waited over half an hour in the luggage hall before our cases came of the ship finding a porter (we are over 70 ) was another wait but he did get us through quick . I think the other reviews have pretty much said it all. The ship is older and is starting to show its age. As one walks through the ship one can hear creaking and groaning of the ship, in addition during the last part of the cruise the door of our cabin started creaking. It became quite annoying, much like a dripping faucet would annoy a person. It is really in need of a major over haul, but I doubt if Celebrity will spend the money to bring it back up to its former glory. The cruise was through the Panama Canal and it was an amazing cruise. If I were to rate the cruise and not the ship I would give it a 5, but when you add the ship in it brings it down to a 3. We met many first time Celebrity cruisers and the majority of them were disappointed with the ship and said " no more Celebrity cruises". Here is the bottom line on the ship and the Panama Canal cruise. If you have read the reviews regarding the Infinity and the condition of the ship and are not expecting a ship that is crisp and new and are looking forward to going through the canal and spending time in the ports of call, then I think you will have a great time and will enjoy the cruise. They are expanding the canal to allow larger ships through, with completion of the project scheduled for sometime in 2017. Then maybe the larger newer Celebrity ships will be making this cruise, until then it is the Infinity. Knowing what we know now regarding the ship, if we had it to do over again we would still go on the cruise. We were in Aqua class and ate in breakfast and dinner in BLU most of the time. The food was pretty good but not outstanding. It seemed like toward the end of the cruise the quality of the food went down hill in both BLU and the buffet, I might also add the food in the buffet did not seem as good as the food in the buffets on other Celebrity ships we have cruised on. The staff in Blu and the main dining room where we ate lunch were exceptional. They were friendly and bent over backwards to meet your needs. I would give them all a 5. We usually ate dinner around 6:30 and then went to the 9:00 show. Most shows were decent and entertaining but not outstanding. Over all the entertainment on ship was just so so. There was an outbreak of Norovirus on the ship and as the cruise progressed more and more sanitary restrictions were set up. Anytime you went anywhere on ship you had to use hand sanitizer. Toward the end of the cruise you could not even get your own food in the buffet. The servers had to give it to you. They also removed all throw pillows and items in the rooms that could not be washed. All glasses were removed and replaced with paper cups. I think the virus was more prevalent than they let on. One of the stewards mentioned the last 2 cruises had the virus. Luckily we did not get sick. We continually washed our hands and tried to keep them off items in public areas as much as possible. The one thing that they did not tell us and did cause many couples an extra expense in flight changes is to not book you flights until after 12:00 noon. They would not allow anyone off the ship until 9:00 a.m. and highly encouraged us not to take our own luggage off. We had a 12:30 flight and did not get off the ship until 9:20 and had to wait for our luggage to be taken off the ship. By the time we had our luggage it was 10:00. Luckily the airport in San Diego is only a couple of miles from the port. We caught a cab and it was only a 10 minute ride at a cost of $15.00 including tip. We did make our flight. Read Less

We just returned from the October 29th sailing of Celebrity's Infinity. It was her first sailing after drydock where they refreshed some areas and changed out the SS United States Restaurant for a new Tuscan Grill Restaurant. It was a Thursday to Thursday sailing and there was only one other ship in port – so it made embarkation and debarkation easy as far as the number of people there. A little background – we are a senior couple, living in Palm City, Florida, who love to cruise – this was our 12th Celebrity cruise and 48th overall – we began cruising in 1987. We have cruised with Celebrity on the Meridian, Zenith, Century, Mercury, Millenium, Eclipse, and Constellation – some multiple times – prior to this Infinity sailing. So we have experienced all the various classes of ships that they have ever had. Since they did away with the Century class ships, the M class have been our favorite. We booked an inside cabin on Deck 3 – 3105 – midships. We booked this cabin because it gave us good access to the mid-ship elevators and the areas of the ship we have liked in the past. My husband's walking ability isn't what it used to be so we try to be as close as possible to the venues that we use the most. Embarkation was quick and we were on the ship very quickly – having checked in at the Elite check-in. The cabins were not ready so we went to Bistro on Five for a nice, calm, relaxing lunch. We avoid the buffet on sail-away days as it is just too hard to manage for us. There is a cover charge for Bistro on Five - $10pp – which is double what it was when they introduced this venue – but worth it to avoid the crowds in the buffet. The food was excellent – and we left there and went to our cabin afterwards as they had announced the cabins were ready. We unpacked our small bags and set out to check out the Cafe Baccio and find our Muster Station. Turns our our Muster Station was in Michael's Club – we got there early and got a seat – you don't have to bring your life jacket to this drill so that is a plus - afterwards we were able to exit directly to the outside deck for the sail away. We were a little late leaving, but it was a beautiful day and we enjoyed sitting on the port side as we went out the inlet to the Atlantic. We had booked Anytime Dining – so we were able to relax a bit and unpack before going up to the dining room for dinner. The Trellis dining room is aft and is two story – with Anytime Dining being on Deck 5 and those with fixed seating on Deck 4. We got there about 7:15pm and had to wait a short while for our table for 2. We don't mind that and we were seated along the railing overlooking the fixed dining room below. We had a great waiter – Ali – and his assistant Sebastiano – the food was good – we had Prime Rib – and we relaxed over dinner. It was obvious to us, looking downstairs, that the late seating was going to be really late – we met people later who told us that they didn't finish the first night until 11:15pm!!! After the first night, we made a reservation each night – sometimes early and sometimes late – to accommodate our going to a show or not – the dining room hostess, Maria, was charming and noted our preferences as to seating (not too far in so my husband didn't have to walk too far) and in Ali's section if possible. The food was good the entire cruise and we never lacked for things to order. There are some items that stay on the menu all through the cruise and others that change each evening. We always had excellent service in Ali's section and the two times we weren't seated there it was OK but not stellar. We never book a specialty restaurant because it isn't a value for us – we don't eat big portions and frankly, the surcharge for those restaurants these days is way too high in our opinion. I went into the Tuscan Grill to see what they had done – it is very contemporary – and the menu sounded good – but not for us. I wish they had left the SS United States alone – they did display some of the artifacts from her – but not prominently. Since we are Elite with Celebrity – we are provided a breakfast dining venue that we enjoy – there are various specialty coffees and drinks (Bloody Mary for example) and smoothies and pastries and fruit plates and salmon, and meat and cheese plates – so we ate there most mornings – one morning we ate in the main dining room – it was very good and service was excellent in both places. We also have a cocktail hour provided each evening from 5-7pm in the Constellation lounge and we went there most evenings – we skipped the Captains party and the Senior Officers party and we didn't dress formally on formal night – we have “been there done that”. The itinerary had four ports – Cozumel, Roatan, Belize, and Costa Maya. They were all right in a row after a first day at sea. We only got off the ship in Roatan as it was a very close in walk to see it as we hadn't been there in a very long time. The other ports we have been to many times and we enjoyed the ship while others were off on land. These ports are great if you want to see Mayan ruins or snorkle or dive. The water is beautiful and they are known for that. The ship didn't have the main dining room open on port days so we were forced to use either the buffet or the grill or pay for lunch at Bistro on Five – I wasn't happy about this and we tried to go to the buffet at “off” times to avoid the crowds. The buffet was not managed well at all – tables went uncleared and there were no supervisors evident and those who were there certainly had no one cleaning tables quickly – and those we saw being cleaned were given a cursory swipe with a cloth. The floor was left with crumbs for a long time – just not well done at all. The tables on the aft deck outside just sat there with dirty dishes – the food was pedestrian at best – the only good part for us was the Pasta Bar where you could choose your own ingredients that were then sauteed and you chose your pasta and sauce – you could control the amount of pasta and it was very good – the Pizza bar also had passable pizza – but trying to reach in anywhere in the buffet under their new sneeze guards was very difficult and you had to ask for someone to help. There were no trays on which to put your dishes so it was a balancing act if you had more than one thing – and it was hard to find someone to help if you needed it. Just not a good situation in our opinion. We tended to hang out in the Cafe Baccio – there are nice places to read and the Gelato and dessert bars are there as well as specialty coffee and drinks. You don't have to buy anything in order to have the pastries so we had some cake on two occasions – excellent. We had gelato as well a couple of times. The area is nice – but could be improved upon as there is not a lot of comfortable seating and there is plenty of room to improve it. There were a lot of sales in the Emporium – a lot of sales in the Spa – other than morning stretch the classes in the gym were an upcharge – just a lot of selling going on. Celebrity doesn't do a lot of announcements and that is a plus and Patty, the Cruise Director, was great – we enjoyed the comedians and the Divas 3 shows – we aren't much for production numbers and we missed the acrobatic show the last night which we heard was really good. We met a lot of really nice people – had some great conversations - got some books read. I used the Computer Lab twice – the computers are so very slow it is hardly worth the effort. We both get 90 free minutes and I used almost all of mine up just waiting for things that I needed to check to load – you can use the wi-fi on all your devices on the ship – though I don't know why you would want to as it is very slow – be sure to put your phone on Airplane mode or you will rack up extreme data charges. We cruise to be unconnected but I sure saw a lot of people using all kinds of devices – The roof top deck with the movie screen was under construction while we were on board – it is supposed to be “live” by Dec 5th. There will be food – but there will be a charge for it I understand – again, more selling. All in all, the ship did not live as well, for us, as we hoped it would. We had to walk all the way to the back of the ship for meals, and all the way to the front for shows. Now, if my husband were more mobile, this wouldn't be an issue for us and hasn't in the past – we just have to cruise differently these days. He is considering a scooter. The “feel” on Celebrity has changed for us. We used to consider it a cut above – not anymore. For anyone who has never cruised with them or has only cruised a little with them, then you won't notice the difference probably. If you are a long time Celebrity cruiser, you most certainly will notice it. We won't be cruising with them again as we both feel that it just isn't worth it for us. Debarkation was interesting. We had asked for an 8am departure time and got that. As Elites, we were to wait in the Trellis dining room area in which we had had breakfast all week and, supposedly, coffee, juice and rolls would be provided. We got there a little after 7am and it was so disorganized that it just was comical. No one knew what was what – nothing was labeled as to what it was – there were very few cups to be had – there were juice glasses, but no juice – you get the picture – it took a while to sort it all out. We did get a cup of coffee, a glass of juice and a roll – we were called off pretty much on time and it was easy to find our bag and get in line for Customs – we called the Park N Fly when we got outside and waited a very little time before they were there. We were back home by 10:30am, unpacked, did our laundry and settled back to life on land. Don't think that this review is negative – we did have a good time – the best part was the people we met. There were some high points with crew members who were excellent. The ship still needs lots of attention in various areas – friends told us that when they went to the wine tasting the last afternoon, the plates with breakfast items – ie salmon platters, meat and cheese platters, were still sitting un-refrigerated in the hallway of the dining room. We had been on this ship previously and were happy enough. However this time we could see a lot of areas where the ship failed our expectations. Others on this site have covered them adequately but here's a short version of my issues. Food most certainly did not live up to previous standards except one meal we had in the USS America restaurant which required a 100 dollar cover charge for two people. A bit over the top I think! General cleanliness and attention to detail was below power. The decor and furnishings were dated and tired. The staff lacked lustre and enthusiasm. Staff generally would plough through and not step aside for cruisers showing little respect. Entertainment, apart from a comedian at the start of the cruise who was very funny, was nothing special. Our stateroom staff were helpful and conscientious, no issues there. We were sick of the constant hard sell from the ship, pushing diamonds and various gems, handbags etc. It just never ended! Even when I went ashore to one of the jewellery shops, I was bullied and harrassed to make a purchase. I couldn't believe I was in Alaska, America and not in some obscure African bazaar where quite frankly I would have expected it!! This hard sell is a big problem for me and many others I spoke to on the cruise. I would not go on a Celebrity cruise again for this issue alone! However the destination, Alaska, was a must see, especially the Hubbard Glacier. The only downside was that we only had 3 stops, one of which we waited over 2 and a half hours to get tendered off!! First the positive parts of the cruise experience, our first with Celebrity. Esperanza, cruise director and her staff were very good as were the shows. We particularly liked the UK singers and dancers and Karen Grainger, singer/impressionist from Canada. The tours were largely well organised and the highlight for us were the Penguins at Punta Tombo and the Tierra del Fuego national park and return trip on the catamaran. Mickey Live and Dr Dean kept us well informed about the different ports of call and wildlife etc. going around Cape Horn and through the Panama Canal wre just great.Our cabin steward was excellent and always keen to please. Staff seemed unhappy in F&B areas of ship which we put down to poor management. The Ocean View cafe was no match for the Windjammer on RCL ships. Cold food was served on hot plates and lukewarm food on cold plates! When we complained the supervisor agreed but nothing changed. Scrambled egg at breakfast was very unappetising and pizza variety was poor (we don't do pizzas without cheese! My wife is lactose intolerant). Smoked salmon was poorly presented with dark meat not trimmed out. Why no plate warmers and why were Bain Marie's not at correct temps? Trellis restaurant had good service on first 2 weeks where we shared table with 6 others. My Time dining in second 2 weeks ranged from excellent to appalling service and food was very average. Walked out on last night as waited 30 mins for desert. Chef had forgotten to cook apples for Apple turnover! Medical staff excellent as I suffered from flu and bronchitis in second week-lots of guests suffered with hacking coughs. Hygiene standards improved on third week after thorough decontamination at Valparaiso and all library books removed without explanation and no linen towels offered in public restrooms. Having enjoyed 9 excellent cruises with RCL ships this was a major disappointment. We expected higher standards and will certainly not br travelling again with Celebrity based on this experience. This was our 3rd cruise on Celebrity. Other two ships were also old ( Summit & Century) the only ships offering the destinations and dates we wanted. I blame the management for all of the oversight. Someone of authority needs to look at the stained upholstery on ALL of the seats in the Trellis dining room. The Constellation Lounge also has stained and frayed chairs. The rooms need to be inspected by someone other than housekeeping because they are NOT doing the job. For example: Sloppy painting on decks, power washing needed on verandas. Plexiglas should have constant care. Toilets need Clorox. Shower tiles old and moldy. Thick dust visible under mini frig. Curtains, which only block about 80 percent of sun, need to be rehung or replaced. Upholstered furniture is fading and looks it. The toilets throughout the ship have black ring in them (bacteria?) The Oceanview buffet is very negligent in cleanliness. The servers should be using disposable gloves. The salt and pepper shakers are sticky as are condiment bottles. Ugh! In our opinion the food is below average in the Oceanview and average to slightly above in the Trellis. The workers were friendly and always helpful. Our itinerary of the Fjords/Iceland was SUPURB. Bought several excursions online and they were wonderful. Recommend Grayline in Iceland. The entertainment was OK but not great. WONDERFUL young woman giving talks on Sea life and birds. Need more of her! Port lectures again just ok. Shops were the usual stuff. The few days at sea were very boring unless you wanted to attend sales oriented offerings. Library had been picked thru. Most public spaces were refreshed and several new features were added including Aqua Class staterooms and features for the Aqua Guests (i.e. Blu Restaurant and upgraded Spa amenities). THE GOOD. . . We have had to revise our opinion on the Panama Canal cruise we just did with Celebrity's because in the final analysis, the cruise, except for some unpleasant incidents, was not . . . too bad. Celebrity' strongest asset is their staff. They have some of the most courteous and pleasant staff we have encountered on a cruiseship. Most of them, except for the entertainment director, were very polite and helpful. The room steward and his assistant were also very nice and attentive even though their housekeeping is lacking. The 3rd-world standard of cleanliness is no way close to the North-American standard. The Infinity provides excellent food. Twice on our 17-day journey at sea we had a brunch. Those buffets are indescribable because the choice is so vast that it's hard to name one thing without forgetting the other. Everything one can imagine is there whether salads, meats, dairy, hors d'oeuvres, cheeses or desserts and more for your eating pleasure. The Aquaspa on the 10th deck is a bonus for weary cruisers. The pool derives it water from the sea, is salty and heated to a perfect temperature - afterwards one can soak in the hot tub or use the sauna. What a treat! . . .THE BAD. . . THE ENTERTAINMENT . . . We had more than one night of third rate entertainment thanks to the entertainment director, Damian. He, and his staff, were very disorganized when it came to games, or to set up for any activities, etc. They seemed to be unaware of what was going on and most of the assistants didn't have a clue as to what they were doing. DUPLICATE BRIDGE PLAYERS BEWARE. . . We initially booked this cruise after being told by a travel agent from WMPH Vacations (Cruise Cheap) that there would be duplicate bridge on board the 17-day cruise, but we were told at Guest Relations desk that Celebrity never had Duplicate Bridge on their ships. We were advised to see the entertainment director who did not try to accommodate the group. After many enquiries and with Geoff's (from Britain) help who took it upon himself to organize our duplicate games while at sea, we were finally able to get going. We were a group of duplicate-bridge players needing and requesting a large room for 40 to 60+ people but we were crammed in a little room which was not big enough for all the bridge players wanting to play. . . .AND THE UGLY Celebrity Cruiseline advertises non-existent specials tirelessly. The promoting of booze, tours, paintings, salons, jewelry, clothing, casinos and bingos, is non-stop. We booked a bus tour ($198 for 2) in Costa Rica to some destinations that were closed due to the heavy rainfall that the country had received for more than 10 days. When we booked the tour, the Cruiseline knew about the latest conditions in the country but THE AGENT DID NOT TELL US. Had we known, we probably would have booked another tour with the Cruiseline but somewhere else. We paid for a third rate tour in Costa Rica and a late-lunch probably worth $2. After registering our complaint in writing, and face-to-face with the Guest Relations Manager, we were given 15% discount on each ticket we purchased. When we first arrived in our cabin we noticed the shabby twin-cot mattresses on a steel frame. The mattresses were dirty and saggy so we asked for new ones. The best thing about the new mattresses was their cleanliness - not the comfort because those were hard mattresses! So, if you have any kind of back problem beware of Infinity's cots. The stench in our cabin was unbearable - the rug had an accumulation of sweat and dirt resulting in vast such a foul odor upon entering the cabin that we nearly gagged. After we mentioned it to the Guest Relations Office, the rug was brushed with a strong chemical which irritated the nose and eyes but the foul smell came back after a couple of days. So much for a comfortable stateroom! DISEMBARCATION What an organized disorder we went through. People in wheelchair had to wait and wait and wait for someone to wheel them to the terminal and then once there try and find your luggage which were strewn all over the holding area of Port Everglades. All in all, it was an ok cruise but we have had much better and chances are we will not be cruising with Infinity again. Read Less

Lauderdale and had several hour delay boarding due to oxygen tank on board exploding and then computer malfunction at port.  Sailed 2 days and enjoyed getting around ship and learning what was available.  Our concierge class balcony cabin was fine although smaller than I had expected.  (Carnival's was larger)  Our room service was erratic, sometimes not getting amenities daily, and they had no washcloths for 2 days!  Our frig was not restocked ever.  The daily concierge service included snacks at 4pm, but they never tasted fresh.  The extra charge for concierge class was definitely not worth the extra price.  The food in all buffets and cafes was rather bland, and there was way too many pasta and rice dishes.  The buffet was served to you causing long, slow lines.  The main dining room was nice, but service there too was very slow; and our waiter never smiled.  He was always in a hurry seemingly but not good.  Another waiter at nearby table was friendly and attentive to his tables and to us!The entertainment was not bad and definitely better than last Carnival cruise.Due to swine flu outbreak, our 3 ports of call in Mexico were canceled, and we were sent to 3 California ports instead, causing the abundance of Californians on trip much anguish.  I said it was better to be safe than sorry.The photo dept lost some of our pictures.The spa was nice but more expensive than most cruises I've been on.Nice library.  Good lounge music.  Internet worked fine.  Good beds and linens, but bathroom linens were old and scratchy.  The ship needs some updating, nothing "fancy" here, but over all ok.  The ice cream bars were only open at certain hours and not late at night.  The pizza was open late and tasted good, but it would have been nice to have ice cream afterwards.The Guest Relations desk was open 24 hours and were courteous and responsive to our needs.The shore excursions were good but involved lots of walking, and it was hot.  The crew and stands were everywhere with the hand sanitizers, but the ash trays on smoking decks were seldom emptied.   The PA system didn't work well, and the TV had very limited offerings.Going through the Panama Canal, however, was a treat.  An all day affair that gave everyone plenty of time to take photos.   They opened the front deck, usually closed, but didn't tell anyone till later in the day. Wish we had known earlier so we could get a first glimpse and better pictures.The stops in Montego Bay, Jamaica and in Cartagena, Colombia were interesting; however, I wouldn't go alone-only in approved excursion tours and the murder rates are very high in both places.   There wasn't much in the way of shopping except the usual local souvenirs.  The best shopping was on the ship itself.  I would recommend this trip to others so long as they knew what to expect.  I thought the Celebrity line was a grade up from Carnival, but we changed our minds afterwards.
