The boat is a bit older but had some really nice unique things,like in the blu dining room you could see out from every seat,the bar kept curtains open later and the ocean view cafe was spread out so flowed better. They also left salad bar open longer which is great if you got back later in the day. The need to reconfigure the spa and Persian gardens.spa rooms were too bright the Persian garden too dark. Flip them!!I missed the fresh fruit that we got daily in aqua class. Also if you are cruising in europe pre book and pre pay for excursions to avoid added vat charge. Also Tuscan and qsine were not as good as on solstice. I loved that the pool areas were larger in both the solarium and the open one,but I hated that the canyon spa,breakfast,lunch area was dark,hidden and didn't have ice. We had an issue with a cancelled due to conditions excusion,we had to get the group together and argue to be reimbursed. Thanks to Norbert it was resolved but was alot of wasted time. Read Less

Reading the reviews about the Infinity made me a little concerned about the age of the ship being we were doing a transatlantic trip 8 days at sea and ending up in Portugal and Spain.I cannot understand how some people can complain about this ship. The trip over seas was exceptional the ride smooth and the staff wonderful. I cannot begin to say how wonderful the experience was. I think if your looking for problems you could find problems on any ship but if you go to enjoy yourself and the company your with then you can enjoy whatever ship you are on. Our room was spotless and our room stewart, Sergio, was the best, always willing to do anything we wanted and always doing it with a smile. We have done many cruises and we don't go on ships looking for things to complain about, but look for the good things..Our day consisted of Sergio greeting us in the morning then we would go up to the 10th floor for the breakfast buffet or down to 4th for a sit down breakfast. Each day we would play cards or join what ever activity offered for entertainment for the day. Lunch was always at the buffet which they had plenty to god food to offer for any appetite you felt like having. Then onto dinner WOW we never had a bad meal all 14 days. Marteo and Mart were great waiters on the 5th floor. My husband loves to eat and whatever he wanted it was given to him with a smile. Then onto the entertainment at night, the shows were outstanding we went to all of them. Then onto the casino which I have to say I won and came home with money..overall if your hellbent on finding problems you will, but really try hard to enjoy a wonderful trip on a great ship the infinity still has a lot of life in her even though she is old..we love it from beginning to the end , fantastic. The excursions were not the best..we had six stops and I would say out of six we four that were halfway desent..Hop on Hop off buses were not so good. Read Less

Spent three days in Vancouver prior to the cruise. Embarkation was a nightmare, long queues. Carried our own bags when leaving therefore disembarkation went smoothly. The ship is tired looking, cabin was clean although the curtains, bed valance were torn. Bathroom had a musty smell which was sorted by our cleaner. Dining room was fine, great service and food was ok, ate here for breakfast and evening meal. The OceanView was a nightmare, queues, no room to eat, tables were not vacated and not asked to move even though there were signs. People were having to eat standing up. On the plus side, the cleaning and dining room staff were excellent. Entertainment wasn't brilliant, enjoyed the lectures. Port excursions were ok, I found all three ports very similar and boring. Enjoyed Hubbard glacier very much. In my opinion the company is only interested in taking as much money off passengers as everything seemed to cost extra I will not cruise with Celebrity again. Great ports in all our favorite NW cities. Great food both onshore and in Infinity’s restaurants. Superb butler service in our suite Entertainment was way above average. The magician was outrageously funny and accomplished. The aerialists were an unexpected surprised - like watching ballet. Couldn’t believe how big the work out area was. Lots of machines, free weights and awesome views off the bow. The observation lounge had the best view I’ve every experienced. Awesome sail away views in Vancouver and Seattle. Butler service for the Royal Suite was superb - our every request cheerfully fulfilled. Can’t save enough about Singh who was personable and articulate and intelligent without a hint of subservience. Qsine was the best food by far that I’ve had on a cruise ship and rivals onshore restaurants. Tuscan was also very good with an excellent steak for me. Luminaire was an excellent choice. Best food overall for any cruise that we have taken. Read Less

This was a memorable cruise after completing our two week journey in Peru and Chile . My husband and I chose to discover Machu Picchu on our own prior to embarcation in Valparaiso. When we arrived at the port on embarkation day prepared to receive our seapass with our stateroom information in aqua class we soon realized we were upgraded to a Ski Suite , we were overjoyed , surprised , elated and ready for our South American / Panama Canal crusing experience. We really enjoyed the Luminae restaurant . The portions were spot on perfect , delicious and many varieties to choose from at breakfast , lunch and dinner . We did not take advantage enough of Micheals Club , another great relaxing area to meet great people . The entertainment was very good as well . What we really enjoyed with our new friends were the Silent Disco nights . Read Less

We chose this trip as part of an Enrichment Journey combined with an after cruise land package to Machu Picchu. As for the cruise portion of the trip. I read several reviews of the ship experience before I sat down to write this on. I agree with most that the Infinity is an older ship. I do not agree at all that it is shabby and ill kept. Our suite, 9096, was spacious, clean, and meticulously attended to by Harold, our Butler, and Michael, our cabin steward. We would definitely ask for those two again. Sure, it could have used some updated furniture, but that is knit picking. The first night we had a vanity light out. It was fixed by the electrician in 15 minutes. Our only complaint about the cabin what the moving of deck chairs on the activities deck above. I would recommend some kind of sound deadening on refitting. Embarkation was a breeze. We arrived about 1pm and walked right on the ship. Debarkation was fine. No problem with bags and connections. There was some criticism of Celebrity staff cut backs. I did not experience that in any part of the cruise. The food, overall, was excellent. We did not eat at all at Trellis, opting for Blue, Qsine, tuscan Grill, and Luminae. The food and service at all locations were excellent, especially the meals we had at Qsine and Tuscan Grill.The food choices at Luminae were somewhat limited. The food at Oceanview was overall very good. Bar service from Geonina was terrific. Her smiling face and great demeanor were a welcome every afternoon. One of the real highlights of the cruise was the service and graciousness offered by the staff at Michael's club headed by Eric, the manager. Eric should immediately be recommended for promotion. In all of our 25 cruises, he is the best customer service person we have ever encountered. Another highlight was having Mickey Live and his beautiful and charming wife and daughter on the ship. Mickey gave us unique perspectives on each and every magnificent port of call, plus entertaining and informative updates on the Glaciers and travel route. We took all ships tours this time and weren't disappointed by any of them. Particularly out standing were tours of Montevideo, Port Madryn and the incredible trekking at Puerto Monte. These were very strenuous, but rewarded our efforts with sights and sounds that we would have never otherwise experienced. Congratulations the Celebrity for upgrading their tours. They are expensive, but this is not a cruise to try to save a few dollars. There is too much to see and do and experience. Now for a few recommended changes 1. The buffet tables are too deep, causing guests to have to lean over too far to get some selections. This causes potential health issues. 2. The premium drink package needs to include more choices, particularly with white wines. This is especially true at the service bars. 3. The Issue with getiing back on the ship at Puerto Montte needs to be addressed. This is one place Eric really shined by coming to the aid of his guests. Great effort Eric! 4. The above mentioned noise on the activities deck. All other aspects of the ship such as the Gym, shows, and Bar singers were very good, but that is not why we came. If that is what you value most, this cruise is probably not for you. As you can see from this review, I valued the new friends we made, the universally excellent service from the staff, and the sights we saw that we may never see again above all else. Well done! The Expresso at the Bacci was greate Stateroom was perfect, clean and in perfect conditions Also the SPA with the Aqua class was perfect, clean and easy to use. It was quite and perfect to relax Internet it's a shame for over US$300. Do not recommend to use the internet package. to access to my E-mail, I had to login 3 to 4 times, to see my E-mails it was so slow, that my online banking didn't accept the entry and access. They should not offer Internet for this price. If the internet is free, I can accept the speed, but paying so much money, it's abuse All in all it was a good cruse. We had fun Read Less

This was only our second cruise and both with Celebrity. We just loved everything about it, from the shows, entertainment, activities, dining, comfort, staff, shopping etc. We cannot say enough about the staff right throughout the ship. Every one of them makes you feel welcome. This trip and our last (Alaska) is more for adults than children and this time as the last, there were very few children onboard. The entertainment and activities are mostly geared toward middle age and up but the muted disco nights at Martini Bar was good for anyone aged teenager and up, as were the disco nights in the Constellation. There are activities available for children too but to be honest, I'd be bored if I was an active kid on a cruise such as this. Obviously babies and toddlers wouldn't know the difference though. Captain Berdos was wonderful, personable and humorous and all his staff were fantastic, from officer status through to cleaning staff. Every one you passed acknowledged and greeted you with a smile. Our stateroom attendants Bartholome and Frank were fantastic - nothing was too much trouble. On both our Celebrity cruises, we witnessed constant cleaning and hand sanitising which ensures the safety and health of the guests. One lovely guy was constantly cleaning stairway railings and greeted everyone with a smile. Choice of dining was fantastic and every dish we had was fresh, tasty and served at the correct temperature. The buffet dining was excellent and they have a whole crew of cleaners to completely scrub every item before the next meal is put out. We renewed our marriage vows with the captain and the events coordinator Adriana was superb. She arranged everything so that we had a wonderful memory to take away. All the staff seem to be hand picked - incredible customer service right throughout our cruise and it never slipped once. We used to love the iced cold towels at the ship when returning from excursions in the heat and humidity, along with fresh fruit flavoured iced waters. We will always travel Celebrity because we can be sure of the standards. Read Less

We selected that cruise both for its itinerary and its price and we were not disappointed ! Embarkation was fast and efficient in Buenos Aires . We got at the terminal at 11.00 hrs and at noon we were sitting at the back of the ship ! Our cabin was available at 15.00 hrs and we had met our steward before the safety drill ! We were scheduled for dinner at the second seating ( 20h30) which we thought at first to be too late , but after meeting our new table mates , we decided to stick to this schedule . We really enjoyed everything at the dining room : the food , the service , the company and the atmosphere . In fact it did reconcile us with Celebrity after a bad experience on the Constellation in 2013 . Lunch at the buffet was not as good , more on the average side compared with other cruise lines . What we did appreciate though was the seating room available , even when everyone was sitting inside due to the cold weather . Our cabin on the 9th floor was very comfortable , surprisingly quiet even if we were located just under the buffet and the temperature inside was well controlled even if we had to switch from AC to heating on the ship ! I am very sensible to dryness and I never experienced any problem during the cruise . Entertainment was great on all aspects : the shows were excellent , activities on board were interesting and the seminars given by Milos and Mike were among the best I have seen in 35 cruises . Milos particularly was both instructive and hilarious and I even rewatched some of his presentations on TV ! The Wine Cellars bar also offered some interesting wine tasting activities which seemed to be appropriate when in Argentina ! The ports of call were interesting and so were the days at sea . We were able to spend a lot of time close to Cape Horn , Paradise Bay was fantastic and even though we would have liked to get closer to Elephant Island to have a good look at the glaciers , we were gratified with a close view of 2 huge icebergs at the end of the afternoon . This viewing was always complemented by observations from Milos and Mike. Disembarkation was also very smooth , the only irritant there was the huge fare for taxis going anywhere ( $20 US for a 1mile ride !!) Overall we had a cruise where all our expectations were met !   Read Less

Yes, we had a boarding delay and were inconvenienced for a few days after a Norovirus outbreak. Having had Norovirus once, I was not put out by the delays and inconveniences as it is a miserable and highly contagious disease. This being said, I felt the Infinity crew went above and beyond in trying to please the CDC and the passengers both. Things returned to a normal shipboard routine within three days or so. And, as far as I know, no one got sick! The crew already works more hours in a day than a typical American worker would dream of! Yet petty things are being said of rude service and a lack of understanding English. I never experienced this. I met only kind, pleasant crew members who did their best to please. I did feel that corporate had cut staff, especially the Activities staff, radically. Rachel and Shawna ran themselves ragged from early morning until late in the evening to provide entertainment. For a trans-Atlantic cruise, this was no time to cut staff as there are many days at sea with people who feel entitled to be treated like royalty all the time. The wait staff work at the breakfast and lunch buffet as well as serving dinner. Rarely did I encounter one who was rude or unpleasant despite being overworked. The ship was kept spotless at all times. I never smelled a public restroom that smelled like a cat box. And, I know having several cats! The public areas were generally well kept. As for the entitled, spoiled passengers, where else could one vacation provided all of the meals, lodging, and entertainment for the price of a cruise? It's time to stop dwelling on the little inconveniences and thank the captain and crew for a safe and enjoyable experience. Read Less

We only take repositioning cruises, either going to or returning from someplace we will be exploring independently for a month or more. For our first Transatlantic trip we chose Celebrity due to its general good reputation and to specific encouragement from friends who have used them often. We were sadly disappointed. First the good parts: our rooms and beds were comfortable, our room steward friendly, our meals in the dining room really quite good, though sometimes a bit too slow. We are not big on entertainment, but the Fiore Trio, three highly talented instrumentalists from Russia, knocked our socks off with music from Bach to Gershwin to Russian folk tunes. The fitness center was well-equipped and in a nice location up high in the front of the ship, not tucked away in a place with no views. There are good walking areas on the top decks, but they are out of doors. You cannot walk under cover on a rainy day on the Promenade Deck without crossing through the ship fore and aft, something that quickly gets old. So what was so disappointing? Three things, all quite important to us: The lecture program was almost a joke. We were sailing to Europe via the Azores. So much history to talk about, but nobody did. Three interesting port calls plus our landing in East Anglia, but no port lecturer to tell us something about them. The maps that were available were less than grade-school quality. The library was only slightly bigger than a closet, the selection only a tad better than your local thrift shop offers. Celebrity has known for over a year that this ship was going to Europe for the first time in 2013, but there was not a single guidebook for any of the countries we were headed to, or that the ship would sail to after its first landing in Harwich. The cafeteria was more like our high school days than a cruise ship. Except for two special stations that it took us a few days to find, it was mostly disappointing. Not at all close to the quality in the main dining room. We were also mildly disappointed that there is no movie theater. another petit grumble is that one of the locations the Fiore Trio was given for their performances was too busy with foot traffic and also had poor acoustics, and a second location was only marginally better. So only about a third of their performances were in a decent venue. In addition to the ports of call reviewed below, we also stopped at Cherbourg. We visited the city on our own, and found a little bit of charm and much more economic malaise. Almost all the shore excursion options involved far too much bus time for our taste. It was a smooth crossing and at a good price, but it left us unconvinced that Celebrity was a cruise line to get excited about. Read Less

While a Celebrity cruise to Antartica is an affordable way to see this continent, I would think twice before booking. The first problem is Buenes Aires,the city where you catch the Celebrity Infinity. It's a dirty, dangerous city. American Tourists are charged a $160 fee which must be paid online before you get to the airport. On the two Antartic cruises in Feb. 2013, dozens of passengers reported being victims of crime in the few days before boarding the boat, mostly from pickpocketing. One Aqua Class passenger even had his camera taken during a Celebrity excursion by the bus driver and Celebrity wouldn't do anything to help the passenger get the camera back. Buenes Aires is a crime-filled city with literally every building scarred by grafitti and every sidewalk has holes and disrepair. There are dozens of scams on the streets, even cab drivers try to give you change with counterfeit pesos or try to drive off with your luggage. Check cruise critic for other examples of crime on tourists. The biggest ones were squirting liquid on a tourist's clothes and then pickpocketing them while pretending to help clean their clothes. Others had jewelry or cameras grabbed while sitting at an outdoor cafe or walking in the street. Boarding the Infinity was a nightmare. Two and a half hours of people pushing and no organization to set up lines and order. However, once you got on board, the ship was run very well. Especially noteworthy was the entertainment and the master of ceremonies. MC Alejandro has an excellent sense of humor and did his best to bring great entertainment. The speakers about Antartica wildlife, climate change and other scientific subjects were fascinating, particularly Graham Sunderland who looks like Alfred Hitchcock and shares his droll humor. The documentaries about Antartic explorers were also fascinating. The dancers and singers were excellent and their productions were very entertaining. Big complaint about the dining room seating. We asked to sit at a table to meet others. Instead we were the only diners at a table for six. After five days, we were forced to move to Select dining because we didn't want to sit alone. all around us at late seating were similar tables of two people at tables for six but no one thought to move us together. The sommelier also forgot to ask for wine orders several times or forgot to bring an ordered drink at the late seating. The food was very good in the dining room but mediocre in the Ocean View grill on the 10th floor. The Quisine Specialty restaurant was a superb dining experience because of the quality and preparation of the food and the way it was presented. I would strongly recommend Quisine One of the biggest disappointments was the fitness facilities. For the first five days, more than four of the eight elliptical machines were broken as were a number of other machines in the fitness room. The Infinity did not have the variety of fitness classes that other ships have. The supposed Zumba classes were not Zumba at all. While the Feb. 17 sailing was blessed with terrific weather and calm seas, 14 days aboard the boat with only four ports was too much time on the seas for my taste. Even in the ports, many of the excursions required four to six hours of bus travel to spend one hour looking at penguins or other wildlife. Antartic is a good experience if you don't do a lot of walking or like to explore. For the more active cruiser, I would think about spending my cruising dollars on a different destination especially one that embarks from a city that is more hospitable to tourists. Read Less

My husband and I were so excited to go on this trip. We had been on the Solstice in April 2012 and had a marvelous experience. The infinity is smaller and older but was "solsticized" recently. The ship was very nice, clean and everything modern. Upon entering our bathroom the first day we noticed a very strong mildew smell coming from the sink area. Apparently, the tub was leaking under the sink and causing mold and mildew. When the maintenance man came up he agreed that there was a big problem and apologized over and over. The crew said they fixed it and by tearing out the bottom of the cabinet and replacing the wood when we were in port. We were hopeful that would take care of the stench. Sadly, it did not. They offered to move us to another room so we had a quick look at before we decided to pack everything and move. When we went in that bathroom also smelled. We looked under that sink and sure enough a similar repair had been made. We ended up staying in the original room rather than pack, move and end up with the same problem anyway. The smell never went away. They gave us a free dinner in QSine to compensate for our discomfort. The food was excellent but we really felt angry that we had to put up with the stench the entire cruise. We booked an Aqua Class cabin because we wanted the option of eating in the Blu Dining room. The food in Blu was awful. The meat was always tough and the food was tasteless. We ate in the main dining room and it also was a big disappointment. I had a hard time finding anything on the menu that looked good. I am not a picky eater and my hubby loves all food. We ate in the buffet often because the Indian food was delicious and we liked the pasta and pizza. The good news is we did not gain the usual 5 extra pounds! Needless to say, I would not book an Aqua class room again. I think you would be better off getting a regular balcony room and save the money. We went on several excursions and enjoyed them very much. The only thing I would mention is to read the descriptions carefully before you go so that you can bring the right clothes, shoes, bug repellent, etc. We had plenty to choose from and they were organized and never full. The entertainment was good and bad. The had a great comedian and we loved the Celebrity dancers. The music throughout the ship was boring. We hoped for some lively music to dance to before dinner but there was none. The entertainment during the day is almost non existent. Not a lot going on at the pool. There were some trivia games and the usual bingo. Most of the passengers were very old. We met a lot of very nice people but it would be nice to meet more people our age. I guess that is expected on a 15 night cruise in October. We would like to find a cruise were there are more people in the 40-60 year old range. With music from the 60's-80's not string quartets, etc. We don't know if that exists. Overall, we had a good time. It was not everything we hoped for from Celebrity. Several of the guests felt as we did and had been on the Solstice and will never go back on a Millennium class ship again. I won't say never but I will do more research before jumping on one again. The Celebrity Infinity Alaskan Cruise was a good experience and I would recommend doing it - once. Before I dive into a more detailed review it's worth noting that I start with a bias - I love cruise vacations. I've been on at least 14 that include itineraries within the Caribbean, Mexico, the Mediterranean and now Alaska. I've sailed on 4 different lines (Carnival, Holland America, Royal Caribbean, and Celebrity) and have found that Celebrity Cruises meet my needs and wants the best. Overall, I like the Celebrity experience for three primary reasons: the ship interiors reflect an understated high end design, the food quality is excellent, and the service is consistently well executed. Despite my preference for Celebrity, I've never been on a cruise I haven't enjoyed. I like being on the water and the overall experience of sailing on a ship. I like visiting different ports of call without the hassles of packing and unpacking. I find the value of a cruise exceeds, dollar-for-dollar, a comparably priced land based vacation. Finally -- if I am on a cruise I am also on vacation so what's not to enjoy? Regarding the Alaska experience - it was wonderful but I'll never do it again. One morning at 6am, when we were sailing through the Tracy Arm Fjord, I was wearing 2 layers of clothing, a cable knit sweater, a rain jacket, gloves, a hat and was wrapped in a wool blanket. While I was bundled up in the cold morning mist, watching cruise attendants try to sell $9 "souvenir" mugs of hot chocolate to other frigid guests, I quietly thought to myself, "did I really pay for this experience?" While the Tracy Arm Fjord, and indeed all the nature I experienced in Alaska, was beautiful and even breathtaking, it was also cold, windy, rainy and cloudy. It was toward the end of summer (early September) so I expected this. I also realized that I prefer warm weather vacations. I'd still recommend going to Alaska because it's worth seeing. I took advantage of being there -- I saw black bears, humpback whales, glaciers and took active tours that put me in the middle of the scenery. It was great. But once was enough! It was disappointing for me to see so many people never venture past the utterly fake "Alaskan" experience of small-town ports designed and staffed by the cruise lines or their affiliates. If you are headed to Alaska and your only experience is a short walk from the ship to the next "Tanzanite International" jewelry store my recommendation is don't go! If you are going to spend your time and money on an Alaskan vacation then go and see it! Get out there and experience it! Put yourself in the center of what Alaska has to offer. It's truly wonderful -- despite the weather. When deciding on a cruise I find the choice of ship is as important as the destination itself. The Celebrity Infinity is a "Millennium Class" ship -- meaning that it shares the same general blueprint design of the Celebrity Millennium ship. There are 4 ships in that series -- the Millennium, Infinity, Constellation and Summit. The Infinity was completed in 2001. I sailed it in 2004 and remember being impressed. In 2008, Celebrity celebrated the inaugural sailing of their first new class of ship in nearly a decade -- the Solstice. The Solstice is bigger than the Millennium ships and features many new innovations and entertainment venues. Since then a total of 5 "Solstice Class" ships have been released: the Solstice, Eclipse, Equinox, Silhouette and the Reflection. Within the last year, each Millennium Class ship underwent a major multi-million dollar renovation branded as a "Solsticzation." Through this process the older ships were outfitted with some of the new innovations and entertainment venues found on Solstice Class ships. Since I've sailed on the Solstice, Eclipse and Equinox I was anxious to check out the new and improved "Solsticized" Infinity. As I mentioned, I love being on the water and the experience of sailing on a ship. I could take a cruise to nowhere and thoroughly enjoy myself. I chose this Alaska cruise equally for the experience of Alaska as I did for the experience of sailing on the newly remodeled Infinity. It didn't disappoint. The ship looks fantastic -- fresh and new despite being more than a decade old. It was fun to experience new venues like the chic Martini Bar, unique specialty restaurants like "Qsine" and "Bistro on 5," as well as other public venues like the "Cellar Masters" wine bar or the re-purposed "Michael's Club" which is now a micro-brew pub. The new Infinity felt like a smaller and more intimate version of the Solstice Class ships. If I was disappointed by anything it was some of the food options and inconsistent service experience -- which was surprising given the consistently great experiences I've had on so many previous Celebrity cruises. The Infinity's upscale ocean liner themed restaurant, the S.S. United States, offers French cuisine similar to the "Murano" branded restaurants found on Solstice class ships. The similarities end there. The service was way off, the food wasn't prepared well (deflated souffle's among other obvious mis-steps) and a faded decor in need of its own refresh all contributed to the disappointment. I don't think this venue was touched during the renovation and I didn't feel value for the extra $40/person charge. Based on previous experience this should have been one of the "highlight" dinners of the week. In contrast, the new "Blu" restaurant was superb! Blu is a contemporary restaurant venue available to guests who book "Aqua Class" rooms. It's small, minimalist in design, with a focus on contemporary cuisine and modern service (attentive but not stuffy). Unfortunately, I only ate there once. My partner and I were traveling with a friend who was booked in another class of room and Celebrity staff would not allow him to dine with us in Blu -- even for a fee. This was extremely disappointing. The venue was seldom full at the times we chose to eat and they could have easily accommodated him. I understand that Celebrity needs to ensure a consistent experience for those who book in a higher class of room -- but I can think of several easy solutions to this non-issue which became a service issue in my eyes. All this reference to "class" really did take me back in time: were we sailing on the Titanic? With regard to service overall, I could list many other inconsistencies but by far one of the biggest problems was the lack of bar service. It often took 10 minutes or longer to get a single drink order placed during peak times. This was the case at every bar we tried and was a consistent frustration that I, and many others, expressed throughout our cruise vacation. Celebrity -- you are not only disappointing your guests you are leaving money on the table! Fix it! Speaking of class, the staterooms are divided as such and include Standard Cabins, Concierge Class or Aqua Class. All these cabin classes are roughly identical in size but differentiated by their location on the ship and other "amenities." In my opinion, with the exception of the fabulous "Blu" dining venue available exclusively to Aqua Class guests, the list of amenities does not justify the price difference. A better robe? A pillow menu? A "free" bottle of low quality sparkling wine? Afternoon "canapes" which are ridiculously small? A "fresh" flower which ended up being a single alstroemeria stem that was never replaced all week? A shower with multiple jets with barely enough water pressure to matter? Are these "amenities" really worth hundreds of dollars more per person? It's ultimately up to you but my advice would be to save your money and book a standard cabin, bring your own better bottle of champagne and order room service as an alternative to afternoon "canapes." Beyond Aqua Class there are several types of suites available which offer larger rooms and higher levels of personal service which might be worth the extra cost depending on your expectations and vacation budget. Overall, this was a good cruise vacation. Alaska is spectacular if you're willing to be a little adventurous and see it beyond the immediate port of call. It's certainly worth doing once in your life. The Celebrity Infinity is a beautiful, small (by modern standards) ship that's well maintained with a good variety of entertainment venues and restaurant choices. The food and service on this cruise was inconsistent in areas but good overall and I would still recommend choosing Celebrity over other lines. I'm giving the cruise product 3.5 stars because it was good, not great. But I did have a great time. After all, I was on vacation. Read Less

Our 17 day cruise was the longest cruise we have taken yet. I convinced my husband that we should share the cost out of our private funds since the budget couldn't take another cruise this year. It was our birthday present to each other. My husband hurt his back a week before the cruise so it was really iffy as to whether we would be able to go but I kept the faith and we went. Our first disappointment was the fact that they no longer put pitchers of ice water in the rooms twice a day. Cruise lines are cutting back but how much could this save? It was a special perk we really appreciated on the other 2 Celebrity cruises we took. We were not impressed with the food in the Trellis dining room. I had steak about 8 times and only twice was it actually good. I kept hoping it was a fluke that the meat was so bad. A lot of others complained about the quality of the food. Some of the shows on the ship were absolutely fantastic! All three production shows on the 3 formal nights were great. There were 10 dancers and 5 singers who also danced. The most entertaining shows were Elliot and Ian Finkel. Elliot is a spectacular pianist and Ian is probably the world's best xylophone player. Each of them put on a show and they also did another show together. I don't think I'll ever forget these shows. The brothers mentioned they only get to do shows together about twice a year so we felt very fortunate to see their show. Celebrity should be congratulated on bringing these guys on to entertain! Service on the ship was great, both at dinner and in our stateroom. There was a plumbing problem one night where no one's toilet worked that lasted about 4 hours. The internet service was a joke. The internet people told us it was a problem with their DOM (whatever that meant) but it frustrated everyone and it wasted a lot of minutes that were expensive. We paid $20 to have a bag of laundry washed. They must use recycled water because the clothes smelled when they were returned. On a previous cruise using the same $20 coupon for a bag of laundry, shirts came back on hangers. This time it was folded and stuffed back into bags and returned to us with an odor. I complained of the sound of water running by our window (24 hours a day) but never got any response from guest relations. It literally sounded like a bathtub was draining all the time. We learned to ignore it at night (white noise?) We really enjoyed the talks by Captain Larry Rudner. He talked about Cortez, Mayans, the canal, stars, the ocean and more. Even with the disappointments, this was in our top 10 favorite cruises. This was my 33rd cruise and my husbands 30th cruise. We started cruising in 2001. Read Less

The Bad One night we were left for 2.5 hours before being served our food at the Select Dining on 5, this was with a dinner reservations made in advance and being notified that this was a combination of two birthdays between the six of us. Food was mediocre at best for the most part. Breakfast buffet was greasy, eggs under cooked and never any changes in availability. Lunch was the same. Dinner was a little better but not really up to the standards I am accustom to. Was told that we would have robes in the room. They finally arrived on the last day magically in our closet. Safe didn't work in our room. No mention of Canada Day (July 1st) even though we had a Canadian stop on the tour. But when it was July 4th it was a non stop "red white and blue" thrown down our throat. I guess this is me nit-picking but I find it very ignorant when Canadians as a culture are completely dismissed by our southern neighbours. Perhaps even just a small mention in the announcements would have been nice. The gym really should enforce the rule of no children. There are signs that say "No one under 16" but it was crawling with kids that were playing with equipment and interrupting my work out. The Ugly ***PAPER THIN WALLS*** this was terrible for us, next to us was a child who was about 3 years old, we could hear her non stop and even could hear coughing in the room next door. The parents were not understanding on this, the child was up until 3am regularly, keeping us awake. The paper thin walls also really stopped my partner and I because we were worried about being heard by guests next door or in the hall ways. Plumbing didn't work properly a few times, our toilet didn't flush and then we had no hot water one morning. Constantly being told to buy jewellery, on and off the ship. I like jewellery, I have a house account at Tiffany & Company and am known by name by sale associates. This jewellery they are trying to pawn off to the people is terrible quality and is shamefully overpriced for what it is. I have never heard of tanzinite before (even my spell check hasn't heard of it), stop telling us it is a rare gem. Again, the jewellery - the stores at the ports are mostly owned by the cruise lines so they are heavily advertised in the maps and such. It gets annoying seeing the same store at every port. Didn't I go on a cruise to see different things at different ports? A real piss off was that we booked this trip being told we could go to the Yukon on an exsercion. Sailed Celebrity Infinity round trip Seattle - Tracy Arm Fjord - June 15 - 22, 2012. When we boarded (which seemed pretty organized) and finally were on board the ship, we passed a couple of crew members standing next to some Mimosas. They never offered any to us. I went up and asked if those were for us and then we were given some. What a send off! That should have been the tip off for me that this trip was not customer oriented. My biggest complaint was that they did not advertise their grand brunch, buffet, or whatever you want to call it. After being on 6 cruises, this is the first time I have ever missed this special event. It was never mentioned in any of the entertainment evenings or in any of the literature that was given to us. We would get special invitations to sales events for whatever they were pushing that day, but nothing about the buffet. As Aqua Class, we ate in the Blu Restaurant instead of the Trellis where the brunch was. Blu was much less hectic. We did eat in the Trellis one day for lunch, and I don't think I would have enjoyed that huge dining room for dinners. The Blu Restaurant which was part of Aqua Class was much more intimate. However, they never told us about the grand buffet. I fell and injured myself on a tour, or I probably would have been asking when it was, but normally you don't have to ask because they are so well advertised. We found out that we had missed it when we went to lunch in the Trellis Restaurant just to see what it was like. The people said that the brunch had been outstanding - lobster, crab legs, ice carvings, chocolate bar. They showed us pictures with carved watermelons. They also said they didn't know about it either, they actually stumbled across it when they went to see what the "brunch" was (since this was the restaurant that they always ate in). They were not Aqua Class so they were eating dinner in the Trellis every night and nobody told them either! Another couple at the table was also Aqua Class and was completely,as she said, "devastated" when they found out that they, too, had missed the brunch. There is a whole column in the paper every day devoted to eating times in all the different restaurants and the only indication of this special event was the word "brunch" 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. listed under Trellis. Not even highlighted or capitalized! Why would you have two dress-up evenings and then have the brunch/buffet in the middle of the day!!! Since most of the cruises I have been on recently refer to it as a "buffet" I didn't even realize this was the big event, plus it was listed under a restaurant that we weren't eating in because we were Aqua Class. We didn't eat in the Trellis so would have no reason to view their hours. I complained to the Guest Relations Supv and she said that it was printed in the newsletter. I said surely you don't expect everyone to recognize this event simply by the word brunch. She kept saying the same thing and finally I got to talk to the Guest Relations Manager who could have cared less. He said it was basically water under the bridge since it was already passed - too late to do anything. He also said it was printed in the newsletter: brunch. He said the waiters should have told us. I wish I had asked them to prepare me a lobster/crab dinner and send it to my room as I never got to have any on my Alaskan cruise! We did have lobster one night in Blu, but it was fixed in some sauce, so it wasn't that good. They all seem to think the word brunch lets everyone know this is the gala event. At least this is their pathetic excuse. It wasn't even highlighted. I was starting to get bored with his cruise and this event would really have helped liven things up. Especially since it's always the highlight of any cruise. I asked some people in the elevator if they had attended the brunch, and they also said they didn't know about it. I REALLY BELIEVE THAT CELEBRITY INFINITY INTENTIONALLY DOES NOT ADVERTISE THIS EVENT. I DON'T KNOW IF IT IS FOR COST REASONS OR OVERCROWDING. Someone suggested that maybe they don't have enough room for everyone. I repeated that to the Guest Relations Manager, but he said that was not the case. I have never seen a ship that was so disinterested in the satisfaction of their cruisers. IT JUST FLOORS ME THAT THEY DIDN'T CARE THAT WE MISSED THAT BRUNCH...IT'S REALLY HARD TO BELIEVE. I was so dissatisfied with the response from Guest Relations, that I contacted the Cruise Director. He was nicer (said it was printed in the newsletter - brunch), but said it wasn't his area, he would have the Food Manager call me. The Food Manager never called me. Needless to say, this is the worst customer service I have ever seen. As Aqua Class we got to use the Persian Gardens. These were amazing - steam and dry saunas, some herbal. This was a nice perk in Aqua Class but doesn't make up for no notification about the brunch. The food on Infinity was good - not excellent. We ate at Blu (nice atmosphere), the Oceanview Cafe - buffet style, Aqua Spa Cafe (health conscious, very limited choices) and Cafe al Bacio Gelateria. Our Room was Aqua Class 9093 veranda. There is an overhang from the floor above which I didn't know about until the last minute. As someone said, it is a curse or a benefit depending upon how you look at it. It did take effort to keep the overhang and side rails out of pictures. However, in poor weather it did keep our chairs from getting wet. We thought our bathroom had a distinct smell of urine. We asked to have it cleaned again, but it didn't change much. We just tried to ignore it. I don't know if it's just the smell of the bathrooms or if there was a problem. I really didn't feel comfortable asking any other cruisers if their bathrooms smelled of urine. The couple who also missed the brunch, said their shower was actually flooding badly on the Deck above us - don't know if that was 10 or 11. They were Aqua Class. All of the tours we selected were top notch. I was injured on one tour at the Suspension Bridge in the Yukon. The floorboards were uneven in the restaurant causing me to trip into the steel counter-top and smash my rib cage. I went to the clinic on the boat when we returned 3 or 4 hours later and had an x-ray. They didn't charge me because it was on a sponsored tour. The doctor said it didn't look like a fracture but I should see my doctor when I get back if it still hurts. She said their X-ray machine was good, but not great. I wanted a copy of the medical report for my traveller's insurance, but they said I would have to pay $25. I didn't think that was right and ended up not getting one. I put a call in to the nurse on the last day because I thought I better spend the $25 for it, but again no one called me back. The naturalist on the ship was outstanding - Brent Nixon. He was very animated and even acted out some of his presentations. Some people thought this was too much, but we found him extremely interesting. The comedian also was exceptional and I'm sorry I can't remember his name. The musical numbers were very good, but with about three shows like that produced by the same people it became a little boring. I started to feel bored on this cruise, and that's another reason the brunch would have livened things up. We did go to some Karaoke in one lounge and dancing in the Constellation. I had expected so much from Celebrity and was sorely disappointed. Customer service was lacking. I don't fell like they cared about their cruisers. Our last cruise was a Viking River Cruise in Europe and from the food, to the staff there is no comparison. We still gave everyone their full tips because we didn't want to penalize them, but the service just wasn't up to par. So now I'm back at home with extremely sore ribs, getting ready to go to my doctor, and wishing I could be more excited about the trip I was just on considering how much money we spent. Our vacations have always been outstanding - I guess every one can't be that way. Somewhere along the line you have a not-so-good one, and for me it was Celebrity Infinity. Read Less

Embarkations-Very smooth!! They know what they are doing. Everyone was eager to answer any questions we had, and make sure we were comfortable. Cabin-9067-Concierge Class A+-Great room. Lots of storage space!! Our room attendant was wonderful! HE made sure we had what we needed and had great customer service! We loved sitting out on our balcony everyday! So Relaxing!! We ordered room service several times, and the room attendant brought it right up. We have fruit daily, tea and appetisers every night in our room waiting for us when we returned. I was so happy we upgraded to Aqua-class. There was so much that came with our package. The spa was wonderful!! We tried to take advantage of everyone pampering us! We were so happy to get the The Celebrity Today newsletter daily so we knew what to expect daily and what was going on. That was our lifeline to the ship!! and much appreciated to have the information. Food-We loved all the food. There were so many choices and locations to choose from. We ate dinner at the Blu restaurant-fantastic! Customer service was awesome!! They made recommendations that suited your taste. Our server got to know us and made all the right choice to make our dining experience one to look forward to daily! We didn't eat anything on the ship that was not wonderful! Loved the fresh fruit in the Ocean view! Cheeseburgers were mouth watering! Entertainment- was excellent! Loved the Broadway style shows! We planned our day out the night before and tried to make the most of our time on the ship! We never had a dull moment. Even when we chose to go to the spa and relax in the hot tub afterwards. We were happy there was a heated pool/hot tubs for adults only. It was nice to relax and enjoy some quiet time, and also not have kids splashing us or being loud. Service-was excellent! We did not have one bad experience. This was our first cruise. Seemed like there were staff everywhere we went to wait on us. Lines were great coming and going. There were lines, but that's part of getting hundreds of people off at one time. We never waited longer than 20 minutes coming and going at each port! Excursions-we had several wonderful trips at each port! I booked them all online ahead of time. It was perfect, because I paid for them as I booked them and didn't have to pay for them all at one time. We felt like we got to see Alaska and have life experiences at each port. Disembarkation- was very well organized. We received a letter a few days before, so we knew exactly what we needed to do. We never felt like we couldn't ask questions if we didn't know something or go to customer service to inquire about changes we needed made. They jumped to make it happen!! Over all this was a wonderful experience! We will definitely cruise with Celebrity again and again!! Cant wait to start planning our next trip! Read Less

This was the first time I had ever cruised and I'm pleased I started with a cruise to Central America and Panama Canal. The experience included some highs and lows but overall it was a great vacation. Given that it was my first cruise, and I can be hard to impress (to say the least), I was hyper-sensitive to everything around me right from the first moment we started this adventure. Embarking was odd -- we were in an Aqua Class stateroom, which has its own "express line" but our line was slower than the general boarding line. Celebrity staff on the ground were clearly disorganized but we tried not to let it bother us - we were happy to be onboard the Infinity...my lady and I went upstairs to shoot hoops on the basketball court before the ship even left because it seemed like about the oddest thing we could do. As a newbie to cruising I couldn't believe that cruise ships don't even take one night between trips to organize, stock up and clean up to ensure they present themselves as the financial juggernauts they are. But only a few hours down-time between each journey -- and this shows to anyone paying attention. When we got on-board everyone seemed to be playing catch up to the people that just boarded, just minutes after saying goodbye to the people from the previous cruise. Odd way of doing things. Our Aqua Class room (#9179) was supposed to be slightly bigger and better (size, tv, fancy face cloths etc) in all aspects than the next step down concierge class but this didn't seem obvious to us. For the first 24-48 hours some things that were promised, simply weren't there but then started appearing magically. And we had to go to guest relations to ask what bonuses and services we were supposed to get with our room...and at that point we could start asking for these things (like special pillows for those that need them). I figure if they're going to charge extra for this class of rooms, it makes sense that they would not only be clear about the services and bonuses you have paid for but they would make it a priority to ensure these things are actually made available to you without you having to do a Sherlock Holmes to figure out what you should be getting. With all this said though, the room was beautiful and a perfect place to call home for Sandy and I for the next two weeks. Our room was about midway, on the left side of the ship, which is the side of the ship that is up against the port when you dock (and lets you wake up to the "Welcome to Guatemala" sign the morning you arrive there). Hmm, maybe that's why they call the left side of the ship "port". As a newcomer to cruising I found the whole experience fascinating. The ability to bask in such comfort and luxury while waking up to a new port in a new country (or entering the Panama Canal) many mornings is simply amazing, and something that I feel truly fortunate to be able to do. And it gives you permission to really leave all your problems behind. There are a few predictable downsides to cruising (like the decadent theatre of eating, eating, eating) but this wasn't going to stop me from enjoying myself thoroughly. At this point I had better just create a couple of lists or this will be too long for anyone to read. The good: Great service and friendly staff. We could see that all staff on the ship are trained to greet you whenever possible and it makes a difference...it makes you feel good. Our room attendant Bertolino was great: He took his job seriously, was always inquiring if we were happy with things, and he helped me pull off a great (but kind of mean) April Fool's joke on Sandy. The ship is a nice size. I know they make them larger but it was big enough for me. Aqua Class turned out to be a huge bonus for us because we got to eat in the new Blu Restaurant (four course fare, a bit lighter and healthier than in the main dining room), which is reserved for people in Aqua, as well as anytime use of the ship's new Persian Garden - a series of saunas and steam-rooms for some quiet time. Perfect. The variety of things to do, nightly entertainment, sun-soaked decks, and great destinations and excursions in central America were all highlights. And thank you Alexa in guest relations for always having a smile and being so patient and helpful. The not-so-good: With service on the ship generally being so excellent, it really stands out when individual staff are not as friendly or professional as the others. The spa seemed new and disorganized, and has some problems to work out - with its services (we had a problem that was never corrected) and staff (some clearly bad attitudes here). I purchased Sandy a gift certificate from the spa for her birthday and found out many days later that they provided her with a different service than the one they sold me, and they charged us extra for it. They never accepted responsibility for this mistake. Another problem area we discovered for the ship on a whole was basic communication for fundamental things -- such as disembarking. In reality, the disembarking process wasn't anything like the process they described in the instructions they gave us the night before. And ship staff chose to not use the PA system as a way to keep people informed early on of what was going on and where people should be. While the food was good, it was not great. A lot of it was relatively bland and flavourless. Increasing the quality control over menu items (does anyone taste the appetizers and entrees before the dining room is thrown open for dinner?) would make a big difference to the cruiser, because eating is such a big part of the experience. But this may just be me...the hard to please guy. Oh, and all the chocolate-type desserts had a similarly odd flavour to them. Odd and similar. But that's nit-picking. The bottom line here is that despite some problems, our time onboard the Infinity was a great experience. A nice ship with excellent staff, keeping us entertained and comfortable, while taking us to great destinations in a blanket of warmth. I would have to be seriously grumpy to not love that. Things for off to a sticky start - embarkation was protracted and chaotic due to a health inspection and most of the staff being in their 90s. When we got to our cabin it stank of smoke and the poor cabin boy complained that due to a ventilation issue smoke was being pumped into our cabin (9008). We complained and initially our complaint was not dealt with well - they wanted to separate my husband and I from our 14 year old daughter or put us in a room in the elevator area. Ultimately after I called the guest relations manager we were moved to adjoining concierge class cabins on the 8th floor. Our first experiences of the buffet dining were also not good - many very rude diners pushing and shoving. Most of these were none English speakers - seemingly Eastern European and German. However we later realise that choosing dining time avoided this issue. The evening meal staff in the Trellis ensured that the meal in this restaurant was always excellent - great food and service. The food in the Ocean Grill was also very good. We ate at Qsine one night - lots of fun, huge amounts of food and our daughter loved the menus. Trips in general high quality other than the shaping of Panama City trip which was grim in the extreme. This was a bus based "mild" exertion trip. Many participants were either very old, very over weight or disabled. The transport did not cater for this - neither did the eating or toilet arrangements. All other trips we took were nominally strenuous - and these issues did not recur. In general the ship occupants were well over 65 - so a strenuous rating ruled out many and these trips were under subscribed .... Which we felt was a good thing. Real positives were the quality of the room cleaning staff, the gym was well equipped and classes were great. Our photograph package was very very good value. My husband and daughter loved the Puerto Vallarta zip trek trip - the photos from this were a really good buy. We met some fantastic people and worked out how to avoid the more annoying ones. The spa was an outstanding negative - over price and therapists work on commission so they aggressively sell products and offer poor value expensive treatments. My advice don't bother having a treatment on board. Read Less

We recently lost our cruising virginity on a 14 day cruise from Buenos Aries around Cape Horn to Valparaiso. Quite frankly, I am glad we saved ourselves for Celebrity. My wife and I like active cycling and/or hiking vacations and we didn't know if we would like being"captive"in a ship. We need not of worried. From the moment we left port, we felt pampered by the staff and wondered at the wealth of quality activities available throughout the ship. This feeling was echoed by the four other couples we were travelling with. The food in the Trellis Dining room and service provided was in a word-superb! The myriad of on-board physical fitness activities more than kept our interest and helped a little to work off all those extra calories we took in. The entertainment was a huge surprise. We were really impressed by the high calibre of the Shows and Beyond the Podium speakers in the Celebrity Theatre. As a suggestion, we would like to some adventuresome/physically challenging shore excursions on offer for future cruises. There were a few minor glitches with embarkation at Montevideo and Punta Del Este but these were beyond Celebrity's control. Overall, because we were treated so royally by the staff, and because of the quality of activities and entertainment as well as the spectacular scenery, we were more than happy with our first cruising experience. As an introduction, I am hardly a novice cruiser. My husband started up and staffed ship's hospitals for about a decade, so I served as a hybrid between pax and crew on about 6 or 8 cruise lines and have been a passenger on several others, perhaps 12 or 15 in all. Several of these stints were truly maiden voyages where the entire ship was newly built with completely inexperienced staff. I mention this because many of the inadequacies and equipment failures were chalked up to the Infinity's "upgrade" to Millennium class, after which we were the second voyage. I must say, there were more "glitches" in the first three days of the "new and improved" Celebrity Infinity 's second voyage around S.A. than in a week or two on other cruise lines. Now, hopefully many of these refit issues have been resolved. But it was the attitude of onboard staff and subsequently management, that brings me to post this now. And the realization that they didn't even correct the billing mistakes I pointed out on the invoice while on board. Also, the client-specific issues may not change from year to year. I booked in August. The first problem was failure to receive an invoice for the cruise from either the cruise line or the travel agent by deadline. Celebrity canceled our reservation and planned to keep the deposit. I was able to get this reversed by the agent, and indeed got a lower fare in September for a higher class of service (Aqua class). We never received boarding instructions, direction to the cruise terminal, or anything like boarding passes despite many phone calls to Celebrity and Continental. Embarkation was inefficient, luggage long delayed and for half of the ship, access to suites was impossible for many hours due to repeatedly faulty key cards. The drill was conducted in 3 languages, took 45 minutes in a stifling, SRO lounge, and we never were directed to lifeboats. The minibar was barely functioning, bathroom fixtures leaked repeatedly, and the room heating was defective. The spa, which was the only alternative for a shower to a lake in our bathroom, had poor lighting, no place to hang dry clothes, extremely slippery floors and very poorly maintained thermal rooms with nonfunctioning door handles or no doors at all. The outdoor spas were consistently intolerable with extremely hot water in the torrid places and cool water closer to Antarctica. The gym equipment was not functioning properly because of the extreme heat in the room, and spa staff were focused on sales rather than the comfort or safety of passengers using non-revenue features. Guest Relations was a nightmare, with long lines daily throughout the cruise and no acknowledgment or apologies for the many deficiencies all were experiencing. The concierge spoke minimal English. The most difficult problems involved unruly children and teens, coupled with parents who ignored prohibitions, and security staff who were unwilling to confront them. So for example, children ran and jumped in the pool area and cafeteria at all hours of the night (over guest suites), teens jumped in and played handball off a wall with small hard balls in the adult only "relaxation" Thalassotherapy pool, and babies were brought, in diapers and pool toys, into this area which is not sanitized except with salt. Teens played (prohibited) boomboxes in the open pool/deck areas right under the eyes of security, and were present on deck with drug paraphernalia in the mornings after obviously partying all night. The only time ships staff did intervene was when I reported unsupervised children hanging from the ropes/yardarms on an upper deck! Entertainment was extremely variable in quality, some superb, much mediocre. The library offered no videos or other diversions, there was no guide to what was available on TV, and books apparently were of the "found" variety rather than selected for quality or relevance to the voyage. The onboard enrichment programs were so-so, but the only practical port information had to be obtained by repeated trips to shore excursions, because all of the ship sponsored port talks were sales pitches for tours. The food in the Aqua class restaurant, BLU, was superb as was the service. The main dining room, however, served fish and steak that were inedible, and even the highly popular sushi bar got less and less attractive later in the voyage because all food is brought in from the states, despite some of the best and freshest fish and meat in the world in the regions we were cruising. I was very sorry for people experiencing all of the other disappointments and not even able to eat well. Disembarkation instructions were extremely limited and VERY late in coming (the last newsletter on the last night). We were not warned of the cutoff time for Internet, and coupled with the many times during the voyage that internet was unexpectedly not available or interminably slow, quite a few purchased minutes (at typically exorbitant cruise rates) were foregone. We were not given information about tipping or alterations from the "automatic" tipping scheme, were not even given our invoices in order to correct mistakes (supposedly they were available on TV, but this system never worked), and when mistakes were pointed out, had no way to check whether they were corrected (and incidentally, I now realize that they weren't) because I NEVER received a final accounting even after the cruise by mail, as was promised. People had apparently been allowed to give their folio #s orally in the lounges and restaurants (instead of supplying a card), so there may have been quite a bit of freeloading if our invoice was at all typical. I expressed all of my health and safety concerns to staff while on the ship, with only the most serious being addressed. Reportedly, the onboard Guest Relations staff was still reeling from the complaints from the prior voyage, when even more accommodations were "not ready for prime time" or not ready at all---the whole upper deck still held containers by one report. After the voyage I wrote a lengthy letter to the President (because the disembarkation survey was extremely limited compared to other cruise lines) and received a brush-off written by apparently quite a junior staffer---after 6 weeks, and two or three follow up calls to land based guest relations. The bottom line is, beware of post "refit" cruises, though they will be advertised as elevating your cruise experience immeasurably; it might take multiple voyages before they are even functioning normally! Beware of Christmas cruises, unless you are on a line that does a better job of enforcing security and protecting adult spaces. And I would have to add, beware of Celebrity which is one of the least responsive cruise lines I have every experienced when there are problems. Read Less

For those of you wanting something out of your next cruise, remember what you put into it is what you get from it. We booked this cruise the 1st week in February because of the itinerary thru the Panama Canal & our first time to the Pacific Ocean & Western US. We had used Cruise Critic (CC) Reviews from our Celebrity Millennium Southern Caribbean 11-day cruise in April of 2010 to plan our excursions on the 8 ports we stopped at. This time, we signed up for the Cruise Critic cruise boards to post on & review others comments & ideas. We were pleasantly surprised to have a few people that took the time to set up a web page just for our cruise & posts a ton of info on each port so as what to expect at each destination which proved valuable to us. We were impressed from the time we boarded (Easiest ever to get on-board) to the morning we got off. What we expected was what we received & more. 1) Having a group of people thru CC web site knowing names,faces, where from, & cabin #'s & setting up excursions with them before the cruise & CC Connection meetings during the cruise made new friends.2) A great group of new friends made from our 2nd seating Dinner time. Looked forward every night to dinner. An "Incredible Waiter staff to serve us (Thanks Ivan & Chong)3) Having a great band in "Kathleen & The Saints" that found & played every dance tune we requested including the original "Paso Doble". It made every night fun to look forward to giving us a couple of hours every night to dance & again meet new dance friends. (As a side note we learned to dance at home 11 weeks before the cruise from DVD's bought from a dance studio website so we did not have to just sit & watch like most do on a cruise.)4) Great food & entertainment most every night (nice variety)& great service throughout the cruise5) Ease of getting on & off the ship at ports.6) A very nice Gym to work out in every sea day.7) A super room steward & assistant (Thanks Geme).8) Great weather!!!!! Review of our Back-to-Back Panama Canal Cruises on Celebrity Infinity from Oct. 25 to Nov 22, 2009: I will use a 1 to 6 star rating system to match the ratings generally used in the industry. Typically, 5 stars are assigned to premium cruise lines and 6 stars are reserved for the luxury cruise lines. Food in the Main Dining Room (October 25-Nov 8 cruise): (5 stars): Executive Chef (Claudio De Carlo) Ingredients were excellent. Cooking: generally excellent. Apparently Celebrity had completely revamped their menus about two months prior to our cruise. Comments from friends who traveled on Celebrity prior to this major change-over had not been overly positive about the food. Our cruise, however, was a most pleasant surprise. Fish dishes were superb; meats were tender and beautifully prepared. Sauces were varied, flavorful, subtle, and quite exceptional. Chef Claudio De Carlo was clearly very much on top of things and must have been closely monitoring work throughout the galleys, ensuring that food preparation adhered closely to the standards spelled out in the recipes. Food in the Main Dining Room (Nov 8 cruise-Nov. 22 cruise): (4 stars). There was a change of executive chef from the preceding cruise to the present one. The new executive chef (Denton Laing) who came on board may have been responsible for a marked deterioration in the quality of the food, although, in fairness to him, this deterioration could have been due to other personnel changes. Sauces tended to lack subtlety and flavor, meats were sometimes grossly overcooked. In one case, pork chops were coated with uninteresting, somewhat greasy, spiced bread crumbs. Food, Buffet (3.5 stars): This was definitely inferior to the food in the main dining room. I am not a fan of buffet fare and generally skipped the main dishes and focused on salads. Salad ingredients were excellent. The pizza bar had some wonderful olives, artichokes, and roasted bell peppers that complemented my salads. Salad dressings were uniformly very good. The high standard for salad dressings was clearly maintained throughout both cruises. Food-Related Problems: 1. A big problem was the main dining room being closed for lunch on all port days, forcing guests to dine at the buffet. People would get back to the ship around 2-3 PM and the buffet would be jammed. So, aside from the inferior quality, there was the problem of far too many people trying to lunch at the same time. 2. A second problem was the two lunch buffet days (within each 14-day cruise) in the main dining room. I guess this is a new experiment for Celebrity and I felt it left much to be desired. Selections were basic buffet fare (turkey or ham, egg dishes, some salads, and carved smoked salmon that was not too good). Additionally, seating arrangements and self-service were rather chaotic with lines at some of the offerings and generally sub-par service at the tables. I think we need to use our comment cards to recommend that Celebrity omit these buffet lunches in the main dining room and revert to regular lunch dining menus. It is bad enough that we are forced to go to the buffet on port days. So, for the sake of variety, Celebrity should not force upon us more buffet offerings in the main dining room. Specialty Restaurant (5.5 stars): Food at the SS United States was superb in terms of ingredients, cooking, and variety. Service was exceptional. My only recommendation would be that they try to minimize use of butter/oils in the various main and side dishes. Times are changing and the well-informed segments of the public require high quality cuisine without undue reliance on oils or butter. Wine List (5 stars): The wine selection on Celebrity ships is quite good. Many wines I tasted in the $50-$60 range were of exceptional quality. Also, I was able to find several very drinkable and reasonably-priced wines in the main dining room and the specialty restaurant. It was reassuring not to be subjected to pricy and unexciting wines, although Celebrity could still improve the quality and variety of its wine selections in the more affordable ($25-$30) range. In today's highly competitive world-wide wine market, Celebrity has the bargaining clout to score some outstanding low-priced, yet excellent wines, and offer them to its passengers at affordable prices. Fellow Passengers (5 stars): Passengers on both our cruises were from above-average socioeconomic groups. Also, passenger composition was highly diverse, both in terms of geography and professional/business/interest factors. It was extremely refreshing to be on cruises that hardly produced any substantial incidents of flues and colds. I would attribute this in part to the handling of cleanliness and use of disinfectants by the staff and crew and to the higher educational level of passengers who were watchful about their personal hygiene. It also was encouraging to have a generally pleasant, happy and congenial group of fellow passengers who showed enthusiasm and enjoyment of the entertainment and activities on the ship. Entertainment (5.5 stars): Here again, Celebrity appears to have made some dramatic improvements. It is apparently using a new production company in London for its major shows. Singers and dancers were of extremely high caliber. Several of the lounge acts (Charlie Butler, solo guitar; Vivian Clement Jazz Trio; a singing quartet) were also of exceedingly high quality. The resident orchestra included quite a wealth of talent and was superb. On several occasions, one or two members of the orchestra joined musicians who did the lounge acts. This added variety and spice to those occasions. Excursions (?; not my thing): a bit on the pricy side. One can easily do much better independently. Activities(4.5 stars): Included great lectures. Service (5.5 stars): Excellent. Staff and crew appear to be very well trained and happy to be working on the ship. This, in turn, reflects on the friendliness and helpfulness they show passengers. Captain's Club Loyal Members' Benefits (6 stars): Celebrity recently augmented their Captain's Club program with terrific new benefits for Elite members. Among other things, these included some free laundry, some free internet minutes, private breakfast lounge including some alcoholic drinks, e.g., champaign (!) and freshly squeezed juices, and private cocktail hour with free drinks. These innovations add tremendously to the overall enjoyment of cruises of Elite members with Celebrity. My Complaints: They closed the main dining room (Trellis) for lunch on all port days. This is getting to be a trend with cruise lines (I suppose as part of their cost-saving efforts) and is a real negative for us. If you don't go ashore on a port day or choose to go off in the afternoon, there is little to do anyway on the ship and the buffet can get monotonous and uninteresting quite rapidly. Anyway, the buffet food is clearly inferior to the food in the main dining room. When you write your comment cards, please be sure to request that at least a small portion of the main dining room be kept open for lunch on port days. Cruise lines do respond when passengers consistently state their preferences. If passengers begin demanding (via their comment cards), more options for food at lunch time, or more varied activities throughout the cruise, some of those demands will eventually be met. Overall (5.0 stars), I'd say Celebrity is an excellent cruise line. The Greek roots of Celebrity appear to have influenced its warm hospitality, friendliness of staff and crew, and great emphasis on excellence of service. Thus, it is unfortunate that they lack the variety and length of itineraries such as those offered by Holland America or Princess. For those of us who cruise frequently, itineraries offered by Celebrity become quite limiting after a while. They definitely need to bring some of their new, large ships (e.g., Equinox) to the West coast of the US and use them to do longer cruises to Hawaii, the Pacific, Australia, and the far East. Additionally, I'd say they need more round-trip, long, and imaginative cruises off of west coast ports (e.g., San Diego, San Francisco, Los Angeles). They need to be reminded of the fact that most passengers do not enjoy flying. Value (6 stars): Value is the overall rating in the preceding paragraph divided by cost. I think Celebrity is very hard to beat when it comes to the quality of cruise experience relative to cost. Read Less

My first cruise was on Carnival to Mexico 10 years ago. We switched to Celebrity because we heard it had more upscale food and better attitude of the staff. When I boarded I noticed immediately a difference in the staff on Celebrity compared to Carnival. Everyone always said hello to you and if you looked lost they would stop to give you directions. I constantly felt catered tomeaning almost all crew members would always ask if I wanted a drink, how was my cruise, anything they can do to make it better before the cruise ends. I mean these people were always smiling and aiming to please. I was impressed it was much better than Carnival's staff.The median age was 40 years old or older going to Alaska. Unlike Carnival to Mexico it was a older crowd. Also, there were tons of Asian people on the boat atleast 30%.  I was disappointed that their really wasn't any pop or rock music played in the evenings. It was very seldom and you had to stay up till midnight to hear it in the lounges. Mostly, it was either latin music, 50's to the 70's-but nothing you hear on the radio station.The music and bands were very good-it was nice to hear different music. But would have been better if I go to hear Nickleback or some band on the top 40 pop stations.I was disappointed that Celebrity did not make those cute little animal creatures out of the towels like Carnival does. Also, Carnival would have you do the cha cha line in the dinner room and they seemed more fun. Are waiter were very good but it was not a party atmosphere like Carnival is-it really catered to sophistication and the older clientel. If your in your 20-30's you want to go on Carnival for your generation of music and games.Overall, I did enjoy my cruise-one big reason is because of the Therlassopool (salt water pool) which is very therapeautic and the Persian Spa which is a combination of four different sauna rooms (1 is aromatherapysmells like mint steam, the other is a mild hot sauna, one is a really hot steam room and the other is a very hot dry sauna. They also have warm benches you sit on and they keep all the rooms dimmly lit so you are relaxed. The positive side was that the cruise only allows 50 people on board to access the persian Spa during the entire cruise. It costs $100 per person to use the saunas for 1 week. When we went there would be only one other couple in the sauna. It was nice that they limited the sales to the Persian Spa to only 50 people or it would have been miserable and crowded.I felt ripped off by the Spa when it came time for a massage. One lady said that the cost of a massage for that day was $39 so I said I would be back tomorrow to sign up. When I signed up I found out it cost $75 for a 25 minute back massage. That was so ridiculously high. When they added the gratiuty it came up to $84. I told them I wasn't going to have it done. They said my appointment was less than 30 minutes away and they couldn't cancel and give me a full refund only half my money back. So I went and had it done. If I would have waited till the last day I could have gotten a 60 minute full body massage for $99. Which would have still been high but a better deal. The massage was good but I have to warn you. They tell you to drink 2 liters or more of water when your done with your massage or you might get sick. I thought that was a load of crap. So I ignored the suggestion. The last day of the cruise I was so ill. I was running a 104 fever and this continued for a week after the cruise. I was never so sick. My doctors at first thought it was the flu but tests confirmed it wasn't...They later said it could be sinusitis...but I didn't have a runny nose. They gave me antibiotics anyways...and I felt it didn't make a dent. I was sick for 2 weeks after the cruise. I trully believe she released a lot of toxins into my body with the deep tissue massage I got. Being a Physical Therapist I have to kick myself for going against what I learned in school about massage doing that to some people. I just thought I had a better immune system...Found out I didn't.I absolutely hated the fitness instructors on board. They had quite a few detox seminars that I went to. Hoping to find out some new information. Actually, they would give you only a little information then reel you in with a sales pitch. If you signed up for a body fat analysis for $30 they would give you a nutrition plan that would help you lose weight. I bought it and was hooked up to this analysis machine that measures water wieght in your body and body fat. After the analysis the fitness instructor laid it on really thick. She stated that I was in poor health and recommended to me and my friend that we purchased $900 of Elemis Detox pills-which she stated was the best detox system in the world. I declined and she made me feel like crap because I had wasted her time and trully didn't want to be healthy.  When I got home I looked up Elemis and found you could get the same amount of pills on Ebay for $150.  Also, I found the fitness instructors to be too faced. They told everyone at the seminar to read Kevin Trudeau's book called Natural Cures they don't want you to know about. Of course, they didn't know that I had already read it and Kevin Trudeau says that anyone that believes in pedaling pills or detox pills at you is a quack. So it seemed hypocritical that they would be pushing Elemis at me. In fact all the facial products and massage products were Elemis. And of course after my massage they tried to get me to buy a $40 bottle of massage cream. It was annoying.  If your looking for health information on this cruise....skip the seminars...they are just attempts to get you to buy stuff.The Aqua spa did have healthy meals but it was like two choices and always-salmon or pasta with a little olive oil on it. You did have to fight for a chair to lay on by the indoor pool but not the outdoor pool.The food was excellent but if you like chocolate-you won't find it on this cruise line. They made a lot of cakes that looked like chocolate but they didn't taste like it-can't describe it. Also after 8:00 there was no places open for food. If you were looking for 24 hour food...your wrong. You can only get room service after 8:00. Even the bars and dance places had no food. not even pretzels for your drinks. Read Less
