We wanted to go to Saint Petersburg and this itinerary looked awesome. We had never sailed with Celebrity before and wanted to give them a try, especially with the free booze package and tips deal offered when we booked! We went 4 days ahead to Amsterdam and did a bunch of exploring around the city. It’s a very safe and easy to get around city. We did a guided cycle tour, and hop on hop off bus and boat tour. Anne Frank house and Reiksmuseum were outstanding (get tickets well ahead though). We had a basic balcony room and were surprised with the relatively large size of the bathroom. We always do the anytime dining and only had to wait for a table once. Wait and wine staff were outstanding in main dining room. The food was great in dining room. We went to Murano specialty restaurant once - the food was great but the environment was a bit stuffy for us. We normally don’t go to many shows, as they’re usually weak, but we found the shows to be quite good. The singers, dancers and aerialists were great. We used SPB tours for the Berlin excursion (horribly long day) and 2-day tour of Saint Petersburg and they were great. Very good guides, with small groups (16 or so), and good headsets. We self guided at all other ports using Rick Steves Baltic Sea port book. Went straight from the ship to train station to the airport on disembarkation. Very easy to use public transportation in Amsterdam. We’ve sailed before on Princess, Cunard, RCL and others, but Celebrity is now our preferred line. Read Less

We have cruised on Celebrity for more than 10 years. The crew is second to none. This time it seemed way more crowded, with a rushed itinerary, and the cruise director was to over the top. His daily announcements were almost 15 minutes long, the on board entertainment was OK most nights, the best was the live music in the smaller lounges. The main dinning room is FANTASTIC. The cabins and verandas are very nice. Celebrity does have the embarkation and disembarkation down to a science, works very well. While Celebrity’s cruise prices seem to continue to increase, in addition to these increases, In my opinion Celebrity is trying to identify ways to add fees and charges of all types. In port shuttle buses, that used to be included, now there is a charge. Up-charges on drink packages like at the martini bar, 3 bucks more for a larger martini, really why not just get two smaller ones. And everyone of these up-charge slips provide a line for an additional tip. And specialty restaurant are only a fare deal on the first day of the cruise when they are discounted by 30%. In port excursions, in the daily flyer, Celebrity creates the impression the only Hop on Hop off bus is available only at guest relations, all one need do is get off the ship and you can find the same hop on hop off bus at a lower price than Celebrity. So after 10 years of loyalty, i think for our next cruise vacation, we may need to shop around. Read Less

Sent email to Celebrity on Sept 4 with my complaint, todate,18 September I have neither received any acknowledgement of my email nor any response. Cabin was in poor repair, tape used to fix peeling trim in bathroom, rusted balcony, upgraded drinks package to find favourite wine not available in most bars, only restaurant, champagne served in moonlight restaurant but only US version in all other bars, given prosecco when ordering champagne many times. Information provided onboard for quay/dock location in Helsinki was wrong. Appears the Harbour Master changed berths last minute when ship arrived but this information was not passed to passengers going ashore, therefore ended up in wrong place with double the taxi fare! Paid for wifi but only worked intermittently, ilounge 'professionals' said it was because I had a Russian SIM card, I don't.... used excuses such as, it's because everyone's using the wifi, it's because we're at sea, it's because it comes via satellite, it's your phone, to name a few. Canapés left in cabin resembled left overs scrapped together. Read Less

After almost a month of submitting our reviews/survey, we're still waiting to hear from Celebrity Corporate office about our horrendous experiences during this cruise. We chose the Baltic, St. Petersburg & Scandinavia cruise as a way to see these countries & we always had an enjoyable experience with Celebrity Cruise line. The 1st. day started with an extremely FILTHY cabin, a dinner table mate who announced she had bronchitis & not on meds & it went downhill from there. After she announced her sickness, we told the Maitre'd about our table mate & asked him to move us to another table. Sadly, no tables were available & our 2 choices were: open dining @ 8:30/9:00 or the buffet - Oceanview Cafe. We stayed @ the table & 4 days later my husband bore the brunt of her sickness by getting sick himself. He saw the ship's doctor twice & he stayed in the cabin because he didn't want to contaminate other passengers. I brought him his meals. & whatever else he needed. He missed all the ports except for Copenhagen. There were other people who were coughing, sneezing & were sick who went on the tours. The majority of them announced that they pd. for this cruise & were going on the excursions & didn't care about being sick or passing it onto other passengers. Other problems we encountered were banging toilet pipes during the night for 2 nights between 10 PM & 1 AM. We called Guest Relations the 2 nights & were told a plumber would be sent up to fix the problem. The plumber never came. On the 3rd. day, I went to Guest Relations to again report the banging pipes & I was told, "We don't have a record of your calls so you never called the desk". I told the Guest Relations name of the person who answered the phone on both nights. Her answer was, "there is no record of your calls". I asked her if that person worked those 2 nights & she said, "yes". My response was, I didn't make up his name. Why didn't he report the banging pipes?" The other issue was maintenance when paint was scraped from the deck above our balcony & went onto our balcony..For the 2 days that we were in St. Petersburg we weren't able to sit outside & enjoy the lovely weather & pleasant afternoons. The net used to catch the paint was 18" - 24" wide while the area the was scraped was about 20' wide. Very few paint chips went into the the net & landed on balconies & in St. Petersburg Neva River. Our dinner wait staff, Rafael & Oleksandra, were excellent, always smiling, helpful, friendly & pleasant. Andrea, another ass't. waitress, was friendly & always had a wonderful smile. The Oceanview Cafe & bartenders were pleasant & helpful. Vivek, Concierge, was polite & friendly. We were disappointed in the daily announcements made by the Captain & Cruise Director because we could never hear them in our room. We always had to open the cabin door to hear the announcements. The last day of the cruise, the Cruise director said, "you don't need to stand half naked in the hallways to listen to the announcements. Turn the tv on to channel 6 to hear the announcements & not make other people look at half naked people". NEVER once, before the last day, was this written in the daily bulletin or told to the passengers. This cruise didn't have "sail away" opportunities for Concierge Class which we missed because we enjoy the opportunity to be on the helicopter deck or other decks when we sail away.. Because of these issues & our horrendous experience, I DOUBT IF WE WILL EVER sail on Celebrity again. Read Less

Loved the Eclipse, the service of Stateroom attendant Vickson, Dining room Inacio, Kastawa and Koray best of any cruise we have ever taken (15). Main Dining Room food was exceptional! We hired a private tour guide in Inverness and that’s the only way to go as far as we are concerned. J.A. Johnstone tours is exceptional, Ernie was our guide and added so much to our trip, the extra effort and price was very reasonable. We essentially took Hop on Hop off buses most places, but I would encourage you to use the GoDublin Hop bus. It is green, by far the better one. If you have the opportunity to go to the Tattoo in Edinburgh, don’t miss it. But don’t buy the excursion from the ship, go to their website Scotland Military Tattoo and purchase tickets. Transportation is the biggest issue, just get on the 43 bus and it will take you to the tender. Last run was at 11 pm so we went quickly but made it just fine. Otherwise catch a taxi while will be expensive. Felt the excursions left a lot to be desired especially in comparison to other cruises we have been on. The excursion guy Fran was awful. He gave little to no information, especially if you weren’t on a ship’s cruise you got nothing from him. Only part of cruise that was disappointing. Loved Glen Ord Distillery, small, locally owned for ages and excellent whisky. Loved the Jameson Distillery outside of Cork. This cruise doesn’t give you a lot of opportunity to see the highlands and scenery outside of town and also get to see the City. So, we are planning another trip next year to catch what we missed this year. Read Less

Perhaps it's just me. But elbowing your way to an omlette, then blocking someone else out to grab a vacant table is not my preferred start to a vacation day. And how do you feed 2500 people? Rather tastelessly - unless you upgrade your "all-inclusive" package to a pricier alternative. And perhaps I should have purchased a more expensive stateroom. At about 4:00 a.m. every morning we were awakened by rattling overhead, like a metal wrack was being rolled back and forth across the floor. (I had a chance to refine that guess because it happened every morning.) Plus, it seemed the tug was showing some age. In anything rougher than a perfectly calm Baltic, the door to our stateroom rattled and the roof creaked. Though I don't blame Celebrity, you can count on a case of the "cruise ship crud," no matter how many times you let those attendants douse your hands with Purell - five of the six of us came home hacking. On the positive side, the staff was great, very personable, and most of the musicians were accomplished players, a real surprise. And our tour guides, though we didn't use the ship's tours but booked through Shore Trips, were fabulous, especially our guide in St. Petersburg. We'd want her to come home with us and raise our children (if we had any). But overall, this ship caters to too many people in too small a space. They might be used to it, but the crowds and congestion turned us off. We'll book a small ship next time - that is, if we care to risk another cruise. Read Less

Baltic cruise and Russia were on our bucket list. We spent 2 nights in Amsterdam prior and got to the pier around 1:30. As elite members, we had a special line so check-in and embarkation went quickly. Cabins were ready when we boarded. Nice to have the champagne again that we missed on our last cruise. Our veranda cabin on deck 9 was exactly what we were used to. Plenty of closet space and hangers. Comfy bed. Okay drawer space. I hate the over the bed space because it's hard to get to but it works for certain things. We did bring magnetic hooks so we could hang a few things up. Bathroom was good. Some vanity space and that great closet next to the vanity with all the shelves. Add 2 drawers and a good shower and you have a small but very nice bathroom. Our room attendant, Hector, did a great job keeping it clean. He was always there when we needed him. Air conditioning worked great since it was in the upper 80's most places we visited. So why did I write "noisy Cabin" in the subject line. On deck 9, the only thing above you is another cabin. Same to your right and left. The cabin above us seemed to be dropping bowling balls on the floor from 4pm until 10 or 11pm. The cabin to our left was fine. The cabin to our right had 2 adults and 2 kids. We think when the adults were away, the kids played. It was so loud we couldn't relax. I went to guest services 3 times. The first time they said to call security if it happens again. The 2nd time they said they sent someone to the 10th deck who found kids running through the halls and they took care of that so there shouldn't be a problem anymore. Wrong. The time time nothing happened. So the cabin was fine, it was just the passengers who ruined it for us and foreced this rating to be lower. The food on this cruise was consistently better than the last cruise. We had 6pm seating. The service was excellent as always. I sort of like the new Elite drink perk that lets Elite members drink from a certain menu at any bar between 5-7pm. Or we can go to the skylight lounge as before but it's still only 3 drinks. The Captain's club host, Elizabeth, was outstanding. I don't know how she keeps that smile on her face 24/7. I wish Celebrity would stop charging for the shuttle buses. If they dock far away from the town or in an area that's not walkable, they charge to get you into town unless you've booked a shore excursion with them which is obviously what they want you to do. They charge $12 pp for the shuttle in Helsinki and $10 pp for the one in Tallinn. Why do you do this to us Celebrity? The ports were excellent. The only big problem was St. Petersburg. The ship cleared late and then you had to wait for you gangway number to be called. Then you had to wait in Immigration in the passport lines. That took forever. We booked a 2 day tour with TJ Travel and they sent us an email a few weeks before saying they know that immigration will take a long time and they will be waiting for us. Good to know since we didn't get to our 8am tour until 10am. The van waited for us and just adjusted the schedule. The tour was excellent with only 14 people. in a comfortable mini-van. Disembarkation was quick. We used Celebrity to take us to our post-cruise hotel since it was only a few dollars more than the cab. The cab line was huge so we were happy to have booked this on the ship. Celebrity does some really good things. For the most part, service was excellent. The ship's officers could be seen and they were very friendly. The entertainment ran from outstanding to okay. This is Celebrity and we know what we're getting. Read Less

We are elite Celebrity cruisers so have experienced a few ships and itineraries. However, this was the best one so far. The ship was beautifully appointed all round. We loved the art work around the ship. Only wish I had my reading glasses with me so I could have read the descriptions of them. Our favourite place to be was late at night in the library sitting in the big chairs with a glass of port in hand watching people go up and down the spectacular glass elevators. Lots of smiles and waves. We were in aqua class - first time for us. Last year we were in a suite so experienced Michael's club and Luninae. I have to say that we really missed them both this time. We kept sending yearning glances to the private entrance of Michael's club. In any case, we enjoyed Blu although it was always very crowded. We choose to eat very late - almost 9 pm in order to miss the crowd. However, that meant we were always in the back forty - nowhere near the windows. The menu was good and you could get anything from the main dining room menu if there was something that you really loved. For us it is the escargot. The other bonus with acquaclass is the Persian garden. however, we never did manage to get there. Kind of forgot about it, I think. The relaxation room at the end of the aqua class rooms was very nice until there were too many people waiting for spa appointments and then it was annoying because they were constantly calling for people. The ports were perfect for us as we had never been to Ireland or Scotland. The tendering into Edinburgh was NOT fun. We had to wait 1.5 hours to get on a tender thus wasting half a day. What a shame they cannot dock in such a beautiful city. The entertainment was second to none. We had pretty much stopped going to shows on cruise ships - finding them somewhat cheesy. Every show and entertainer was top drawer. As well were the entertainers in the bars and lounges. Always something to watch or do. we really loved the couple who sang - can't recall their name but they played the right kind of music and are very talented. Tried to get to most of their shows. My faith in Celebrity has been renewed. We had moved away to Regent recently which is in a class all of its own. However, so is the price. We believe that we got excellent value from Celebrity. Next we are on the Edge and are very excited to see what Celebrity has done. Read Less

We selected this cruise to celebrate my wife's recovery from terrible cancer treatment, a stem-cell transplant, and a subsequent infection that almost killed her (11 days ICU, full life support, Last Rites, the whole deal). Being a life-long golfer, we had to check off St Andrews on our list of places to see. Pre-cruise, we stayed at The Sofitel Grand Amsterdam for two nights. It was outstanding. Our friends were already booked on this cruise and they are frequent Celebrity guests, and always travel in suite class. We've sailed on the Eclipse before in a veranda cabin. In planning this cruise, we said, great, we’ll go, and we can enjoy dinner together. They said, no we can't, because with suite class we always eat in Luminae and never the MDR. The ship has a private dining experience (Luminae) exclusively for Suite guests. We bit the bullet and booked a Sky suite. The perks are wonderful, too numerous to list and almost excessive. Private dining room for breakfast, lunch and dinner; access to Michael's Club, which has a wonderful small bar and serves light sandwiches late in the afternoon after excursions when the Oceanview Cafe offers minimal service; Suite concierge service located in Michael's Club (terrific); Butler service (terrific); priority and escorted embarkation and disembarkation; expedited tender service if not on an excursion; Suite supervisor to ensure everything is perfect (terrific); and the four perks that came with our booking, Ship Credit; Free WiFi (better than last time and completely acceptable); Free Premium Drink Package (terrific); and Tips. We had dinner at 6:30pm in Luminae 10 of the 12 evenings with no wait and our "customary table for four". All were exquisite. Top shelf service, friendliness, and quality. Portions are small, so gaining weight is not a problem Read Less

Booked this cruise 2 years ago when we were on the Eclipse in Iceland. We have done the Baltic itinerary before and love it. Things started off badly when trying to use the website which is unreliable, difficult, and has a tendency to lock you out forcing you to call and speak with a customer service person. Overall the ship is very nice - although is starting to show wear and tear. Things and amenities that used to be free are now a revenue generator. The replacement of the cafe on deck 5 with sushi on 5 is because the free sushi in the buffet area used to be so popular, Celebrity decided to charge for it. The staff was wonderful and hospitable, the entertainment was great, tours were very good to excellent, cruise director and staff were engaging, I believe the MDR to be as good if not better than the specialty restaurants excluding Murano which is excellent. One big change is the introduction of Family hour in the Solarium which is actually 2 hours and totally negates the use of the solarium by people who do not want the noise or craziness at the main pools. Also, the hours are not enforced and kids invaded starting at 2:00 in the afternoon. Pool attendants, deck supervisors enforce nothing and rules are violated, ignored, or ridiculed openly. This is important because after a busy day touring the Solarium used to be a respite - now it it is a loud unruly, unregulated playground. Loved the itinerary and Celebrity did an excellent job getting people off and on the ship. Security staff was quite engaging and welcoming - even to the point of addressing passengers by name and welcoming them :"home", nice touch. We have mad the decision not to book Celebrity until they get their website issues resolved and change their policy on the "Family Hour" at the Solarium pool. We have changed two bookings to Holland America, we have friends sailing Celebrity so we will stay current with what is going on. Read Less

The cruise was chosen for its itinerary to celebrate a special birthday. It was our first cruise so we were apprehensive but pleasantly surprised by the amazing time we had. The ship itself and facilities were of a high standard. Staff were attentive with first class service and good quality food. A big shout out to waiter Jesue, assistant waiter Abhishek and sommelier Ana who made evenings in the Moonight Sonata restaurant special, personal and fun...fantastic job! We also had an impressive and memorable meal in Qsine. We booked three excursions-Berlin, St Petersburg and Stockholm-all went like clockwork, were interesting and informative. The evening entertainment could be a bit of a hit-or-miss, but we did find what we liked and had an enjoyable time. However unfortunately we were not impressed by the booking experience which was far from being straightforward. It all began with an email from Celebrity Cruises mistakenly cancelling our holiday 3 weeks before our travel date! This resulted in 2 booking references which caused us no end of problems with our sea passes and took some frustrating time sorting it out. Thanks to the professional and courteous Nestor on the relations desk who was always on hand to smooth over frayed tempers. But it did not end there, we also had booked to stay at the Movenpick hotel in Amsterdam for the weekend only to discover further problems with our booking which had also been done through Celebrity Cruises. So more precious time was wasted putting things to right. So we’ve had to deduct a star from the overall rating purely because of our booking experience. We are still waiting to hear back from Celebrity Cruises on the matter... which is a shame... Read Less

We just came back from the the July 1st sailing of Celebrity Eclipse to the Baltic Sea and I must say, we had a great time. The boat was beautiful, food delicious and plentiful and the itinerary was amazing. We booked two day tour with late night add on for St Petersburg through SPB tours and our guide Max was amazing!! The remainder of the cities we toured on our own, using Celebrity shuttle, public transport or just walking! We used tour books we borrowed from the library and just followed walking tours or took public transport to see what we wanted to see. In Copenhagen, we spent the day at Tivoli Gardens, which is a 175 year old amusement park and the perfect way to end our trip. Everyone spoke English, and while we had some Euros and Rubles, a credit card worked everywhere we went. We were really fortunate to have sunny weather everywhere except St Petersburg, but we were told it rains most of the summer anyway. This was our 7th cruise and our first with Celebrity. I do enjoy their "modern luxury " attitude, doing away with dancing waiters and such. In agreeing with other reviewers, they do try to upsell specialty restaurants, but a simple "no thank you" did the trick. While they have separate restaurants for aqua class and concierge class, they are out of the way and you do not feel as if you are missing anything. I don't really understand why so many passengers prefer to be separate by choosing these classes, if you feel that why, why would you choose to vacation with 3000 other people?? I only have 2 minor complaints. One, family swim time in indoor pool was scheduled from 6-8 pm which is the same time as early dinner. The Baltics can be chilly and on sea days, it would have been nice to have some pool time with the kids. We chose not to miss dinner to take advantage of this. Second, we missed the comedians that we have seen on other cruiselines, especially the family shows. Neither of these would keep me away. We will surely travel with Celebrity again. Read Less

We sailed from Amsterdamin in June and the itinerary was one of the most interesting we have done. This is our 5th cruise on Celebrity and our 14th cruise overall. As usual, the ship, the crew and the food and entertainment were all excellent. We were part of a large group and our travel agent had arranged for private tours in all ports except for Germany and Holland. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience on our tours. While the two full tour days in St. Petersburg were pricey, they included lunch on both days and were well worth the expense. Our tour guide, Elena, of Baltic City Breaks was our guide for the two days we spent in Russia. She was absolutely outstanding. In addition, Elena helped arrange for the other private tours in our other ports of call with the exception of Amsterdam where we spent two extra days after the cruise touring on our own. All the guides were exceptional and spoke excellent English. Our one negative experience on this cruise was one I had never experienced before in any of our previous cruises. Hopefully it was only with the individual who dealt with me and not a general approach by Celebrity. As is our usual practice, we do not participate in automatic gratuities, preferring always to provide the recommended tip directly to the crew member who made our cruise experience a great one - our room attendant, our wait staff in the dining room, bar servers and any others who we feel went above and beyond. When I went to Guest Relations to have the automatic gratuities removed from our account, I was asked to sign a book that recorded our cabin number - I have never had that happen before. In addition, to my surprise, two days before disembarkation we received envelopes in our cabin addressed to us with identified crew members who we should be tipping and the amount. Accompanying the envelopes was a card from the guest relations representative who I had dealt with. To say I was annoyed and taken aback at the arrogance of this is an understatement and left a very bad impression of how Celebrity chooses to treat their passengers who do not wish to adhere to their enforcement of gratuities. Since most of our friends had chosen to have their gratuities covered as their perk for this cruise, they did not have this “reminder” given to them. Gratuities are by our understanding, a means of showing appreciation and thanks for exceptional services. We have no problem with doing so and do it often but we were offended by the approach by this particular guest relations representative which unfortunately tainted our impression of an otherwise great cruise. Set sail from Amsterdam after spending two days in it prior to going on the cruise, we loved Amsterdam and will return there at some point. We stayed at the Movenpick hotel so just a 100 yd walk to the cruise terminal. Embarkcation was relatively straightward, and we were onboard after about an hour and a half. We didnt have long to wait until our cabins were ready just after 1.00, alongside our luggage. The sail from Amsterdam to the North Sea was not the most scenic, with a lot of industry along the way. This was our first cruise with Celebrity and we were very impressed, with both the staff and crew of the Eclipse, the ship itself was kept spotless, and there is plenty of activities to keep you occupied during sea days. We didn't eat every night in the MDR but when we did we enjoyed every meal and were well looked after by Alexio and the rest of the dining room staff. If we didn't eat in the MDR we used the Oceanview Café where there is a vast choice of starters main and desserts. We also used the Mast Grill for a couple of lunches. We had signed up for the Classic package and never once felt the need to upgrade to the Premium Package, had a couple of Drambuie's, and had to sign an additional slip, but that was it. Plenty of selections of beers spirits and wines. We used most of the bars at some point, but preferred the Passport Bar, Observation Bar and the Sunset Bar. We visited the Eclipse Theatre most nights and the entertainment was of a very good standard and very professional, Jane Curry probably being the pick of the bunch. All ports we visited were very good, although Warnemunde was cold wet and windy, but it looked and an attractive town with a good beach. We walked into Helsinki from the cruise port and liked what we saw, again in Stockholm we walked into the Vasa Museum, and the Royal Palace, Stockholm was very impressive with some stunning buildings. St Petersburg was outstanding, we did the two day tour with Denrus, and had absolutely no problems getting through immigration on the first day. Tallin was a walkable delight as well, it helped that it was a beautiful day, Copenhagen again was walkable, and we also did a canal tour. Disembarkation was easy and smooth, and a quick transfer to Amsterdam airport finished off a delightful and memorable holiday. We will cruise with Celebrity again next year, through the Panama Canal, and we cannot wait. Read Less

Overall this was a good cruise. We had a cabin in Aqua Class. Boarding seemed an issue as they could not take photos at the pier and then we were given cards with someone else’s name on them. We then got off the ship and got the correct cards. This is overall a nice cruise as it never gets dark at night so lots of time to look around. The Aqua Class cabin is a regular balcony cabin but with a nicer shower which was nice with the sliding doors. The daily tea we traded out for water and the rest other than Blu restaurant we did not use. The Blu restaurant is only for Aqua class and is nice. My only issue was with some of the tours we did not get back until it was closed or not in time to nice casual dress and get there so ate in the buffet. This would also be a complaint and so many people a couple of night had late tours that there was no seating available. They reacted to bring chairs and tables in from outside but should have been proactive and not reactive to the late dining rush and poor weather. The entertainment was OK. I do enjoy the piano bar and Blues Brothers lounge on HA better but the entertainment was OK. Myself would not do Aqua Class again unless you were sure that you could eat at Blu most nights. The gym was impressive for a ship. The ports were interesting and there were plenty in 12 days. Read Less

We had not been to Ireland until this trip. We found it friendly, warmer than expected, beautiful, work very good food. The Eclipse is a Soltice class ship and we love all of them. We have friends that know Captain Michael, so we may have had a few special touches. We had to miss Belfast because 70 knot winds closed the port, first time fo us on 15 cruises. That meant we missed the Giant Causway which was a bummer. We had that day at sea, and Celebrity organized a few lectures that were quite interesting. All in all, this was a delightful 12 days around a beautiful country I was also impressed with Liverpool and our brief joint through Wales. We always sail Celebrity and we have never been disappointed. I would recommend this cruise line, this ship, and this itinerary to anyone who enjoys new experiences. We have 3 more Celebrity cruises booked. We ate in Moreno, the main dining room, Blu, Tuscan Grill, and the Oceanview cafe. All were good. The servers will help make your meal special. The specialty restaurants were good, at a discount. We always enjoy the entertainment and this cruise was no different. The Captain and his Senior officers were accessible and were very informative. We choose this cruise because of the itinerary, price and our past experience on the Eclipse. We booked Aqua Class because of our past experience on the Equinox. The Aqua Class Balcony rooms are small but access to the Blu Restaurant makes up for that. ...... or so we thought.. The Blu experience was just ok from a food and service perspective. Our favourite lounge was the Ensemble. Andre was a great waiter, lots of character. We only liked one of the entertainment acts. Dany Smart had a solid repertoire of songs. Our first experience with Celebrity and the Eclipse was five years ago. The experience was so awesome we stated we would only cruise with Celebrity. That was four Celebrity cruises ago. I am not sure if Celebrity changed it's philosophy since our orginal experience, but we have gone from being awed to disappointed. This will be our last Celebrity cruise. Read Less

After 3 Mediterranean cruises, we picked this unique itinerary with 2 overnight ports. The ship was fantastic but crew was not very enthusiastic compared to previous cruises. The crew seemed overwhelmed initially especially in the Sunset Bar. They ran out of many popular items the first day! The bartenders at the World Class Bar were exceptional. The main dining room menu selections could use some updates too - nothing special for those who don't eat meat or fish. Overall, prefer to use Buffet due to variety - especially the grill. Cheese & meats selection was good. Love the fresh omelet every morning. Major kudos to Stanley our stateroom attendant for amazing service. He was perpetually pleasant & professional. Also, thanks to Roxanna the masseuse for the best massage experience ever! Giuseppe was always upbeat & entertaining. The shows were very good. Loved the silent disco! The ports were great. Sad we missed Belfast due to weather. LeHarve is a long distance to Paris & Normandy but will need to go back again for more French flavor. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the Iceland experience. Wanted a taste of it before jumping in for the whole meal. We had been to Ireland before, and weren't really that excited about going back. We aren't PUB people, nor big beer drinkers. The shopping isn't all that great, and the site seeing, well, not that exciting either. Nonetheless, we got to Dublin early Saturday morning before our Monday embarkation. On Saturday we walked around the area of our hotel, near the Spire. We did the HOHO on Sunday, and on Monday went to the (free admission) Botanical gardens which were lovely. That used up enough of Monday so that we didn't arrive at the port until the 3pm to 4pm timeframe and therefore walked right on to the ship. So, embarkation was a dream! Our cabin was ready (deck 6 veranda), the room steward visited with us immediately (Muhe was fabulous!) and recorded our desires (extra hangers, ice bucket filled at night, etc). We didn't go back into town at all before our Tuesday departure from Dublin. The seas were a bit rough between Ireland and Iceland, but not the worst we have ever had. The ship did well with the rolling surf. First day at sea was leisurely with a spa appointment and relaxation in the Persian Garden which I had bought admission to for the entire cruise. This ended up to be a bit problematic on our second sea day when it was at capacity and therefore a few of us were denied admission. This was a negative on the spa staff. Our Iceland experience was unusual because we had 2 half days in Reykjavik (arrived at 1pm the first day, and departed at 3pm the second day). Our first day we booked the Golden Circle with Viator (less expensive than the ship's tour) and it was spectacular. We met our tour guide at 2:30pm and returned to the ship at 11pm. We got a feel for the topography and enjoyed every minute of the tour with Darrin. The second day we had a ship's tour for the Blue Lagoon which is not to be missed. I was very skeptical because of the cold air and warm water, but the entire experience was delightful. Down to the facial mask and the smoothie that were included in the admission. Don't be leery of the experience, there is nothing like it in the world. Just do it. At any cost. We left there and sailed north to Akureyri and hired a private driver for this part of the island. The driver did not speak English which was a bit problematic, but we saw a good deal of the country. A day at sea was followed by the Shetland Islands, for which we got a ship's tour of the northern part. Interesting, pretty. Don't need to go back. Another day at sea, followed by docking in Cobh and taking the very convenient train to Cork. Nice city. We had spectacular weather everywhere we went. It rained for one hour on us in Dublin. Other than that, the sun was out for us whenever we were in port. The ship experienced foggy conditions on the north sea which was cozy feeling, actually. Entertainment provided by the ships staff (dancers, singers) was first rate! I loved the addition of the up close and personal performances, where they were in the foyer and on deck 14. Just John and Paul were squeal-worthy. The local performers were just so so in my opinion. The dining room staff was okay, we moved tables to get a bigger table and more personable waiter and that was worth the move. Qsine was okay, we went the first night at 1/2 price, the waitress dribbled grease down the sleeve of my top which I didn't notice until the second time I tried to wear it. Ruined it. I had the internet package for the whole cruise and the connection was good most of the time. Our drink package was a nice addition. My spa appointments (I had 5) were all fabulous. There is just nothing like a cruise! Read Less

Liked the itinerary. Food was just ok. I lost 8 lbs on the cruise so maybe a ship with just fair food is good. Most of we Americans need to lose weight anyhow. However, in 2014 we were on the Oceania Marina and it was the best cruise food I ever had since Sitmar's the Fairwind. I do not believe in spending more money than your cruise fare so I skip the luxury restaurants on a ship except when they are included with the booking, e.g. Oceania. The Eclipse is a beautiful ship and the largest I have been on and I prefer smaller than 3000 passengers. The Ocean Cafe on deck 14 often looked like"Vulture City" but the breakfasts were better than the MDR. Cruisecritic had a couple get togethers and they had a nice presence on the ship. We are all lucky to have Cruisecritic as a partner to our sailings. We had a nice cabin forward (family cabin). Other than the carpet could use a shampooing, it was very nice. Celebrity asked us pre cruise (booking) if we were celebrating a special occasion, which we were and anniversary and then did nothing for it. That was probably ok, though because I didn't need an extra cake. Their desserts for the most part we good and the waiter we had, Walter, was terrific. Always had a smile to greet us. All in all, our cruise was a good value and I am glad to be down to 152 lbs. Read Less

I enjoy cruising Celebrity for many reasons. They have an excellent buffet and a spa cafe with healthy selections. I have dairy allergy and entire dining staff was helpful in determining what I could eat and chefs would make adjustments for me. I did notice some changes from my previous cruises such as the breadsticks in the spa cafe are no longer organic and maybe a slight dip in diningroom food quality. I understand some cuts are made to keep cruising affordable, I would much rather pay a little more to keep things on the higher end which Celebrity Is known for. The bars are top notch. The staff is so hard working and they all bend over backwards to make your cruise perfect. We had an excellent itinerary and two overnights which gives you a chance to spend extra time in a port. I did notice that there were a lot of paid activities on sea days instead of free activities and I think Celebrity needs to take a long look at that. Even with some slight slips, I’m still rating 5 star at this time. Read Less

I have travelled previously with Celebrity and other cruise lines, This was my 13th cruise. and find Celebrity the best at this price point. Last year my friend and I travelled to South America on another cruise line ( Celebrity were not doing that route when we were able to travel) This year, we decided we wanted to see the north and liked the itinerery. We were in concierge class and our 'butler' Hector was very attentive. Ship's cleanliness always impresses me as does the staff in all locations. I am finding the entertainment is improving over the years, however, i also find the nightly selections in the dining room are shrinking. This may be due to the fact it was a shorter itinerary. I was disappointed at the wine selection included in the classic beverage package. On previous cruises there was a better and higher level of wine offered. Guess they are trying to encourage us cruisers to move up to premium. We met some wonderful people on the Eclipse. The tour guide on The Golden Circle tour together with the driver were excellent. They were very knowledgeable and answered any and all questions in a friendly, professional manner. Would I travel again with Celebrity....absolutely! Read Less

This was our first cruise with Celebrity. We are diamond members with RCL and wanted to try out Celebrity. We found the dining to be a step up from RCL with no need to dine at specialty restaurants. I was delighted to see lobster on the menu which RCL has eliminated. The service was excellent throughout the ship with a special thank you to Bar management for their personalized help in arranging a private event. Entertainment was awesome. Room attendants were very attentive and kept our cabin immaculate. The public spaces on the ship were spotless and looked very up to date specifically the rest rooms. Embarkation was not that smooth due to the port in Dublin but I hear it has improved significantly and I trust it will continue to improve. The same with disembarkation. It could use some refining regarding private taxis picking up passengers. We loved the itinerary that included Ireland, Iceland, and the Shetland islands. Customer service was a priority throughout the ship. The Eclipse is a beautiful ship. We need the behind the scenes tour and really enjoyed it especially the bridge. In the future we will likely cruise on Celebrity or RCL. Celebrity was a bit more expensive but we need get a lot of perks such as on board credit and the dink package which is a huge savings. All of our pre cruise and post cruise conversations with Celebrity were very helpful and staff did aim to please. Read Less

We wanted to go to Iceland without incurring the high price of lodging and eating on the island. In Dublin the check-in terminal is not at the ship. After check-in they bus you to the ship. We walked from the last Luas (tram) point. Probably should have taken a taxi. Since the ship spent the first night in Dublin we were able to walk from the ship to the tram (Luas). It took 15 minutes. We are fans of inside cabins. They are always dark at night and cheap. We only spend time in our cabin to sleep and shower. We tried to get early dining but were told it was full. We were given anytime dining (I think they call it Select) on deck 4. That turned out to be better. We typically showed up around 6:30 asking for a shared table. We were always seated immediately. If you can, ask for a table of 6 versus 8. It was hard to talk to the people across the big tables. Get Rick Steve's books for all your destination and follow his tips. Avoid ship excursions. Try to find excursions on Roll Call. We joined one to do the Golden Circle in Reykjavik. We rented a car in Akureyri and toured Lake Myvatn on our own (use Rick Steve). You can do that in Reykjavik too. We did a Free Tour in Reykjavik. There was a great walking path from the ship to downtown Reykjavik. Lerwick can be done with a self walk. We did meet a couple that rented a car and saw a lot more. Cobh was easy to do with a self walk. We did take a ship excursion to the Blarney Castle. Nice botanical place to visit but if you had plans to kiss the stone be prepared for a long line. Getting in to see the castle is only available by standing in the same long kissing line. Disembarkation was easy for us. We walked off with our luggage at 6:15 AM. This was 15 minutes before the published time. They had created a rope line for ones needing a taxi. At 6:15 there were no taxis to take. The security guy said just to wait. Sure enough at 6:30 taxis started showing. I yelled back in the line of people that had now formed to say I was going to the airport and wanted to know if anyone was interested in sharing a cab. We had a taker and for 20 euros a piece we got a ride. The meter was 35 euros. There were parked taxis further down the dock that had been reserved. I would discourage that. I heard two stories of reserved taxis either showing up late or not at all. In the second case the couple missed their flight. Just be one of the first off the boat and you won't have a problem. Unless you get WiFi included in your package I wouldn't buy it on the ship. You can usually get WiFi on shore at a cafe or municipal building e.g. library, community center, etc. The ship had great entertainment all 10 nights in the main theater. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
