We chose Celebrity Eclipse for one, the itinerary and two we have sailed with them on a few occasions previous. The itinerary was amazing and one we will not forget, feeling very privalidged to be visiting Antarctica. We have sailed on Eclipse before and love the ship, good main dining room, ocean view cafe if you want to be more casual and speciality restaurants you can pay an extra cover charge for. We don’t normally do this but booked a package this time both Mirano and Tuscan were great both for food and staff quality, but disappointed in the new Petit Chef option, new animation very clever but a very ltd menu and being in a French restaurant was expecting more than a boule of ice cream for dessert, for $55 and won’t get the repeat business of the previous qsine as no other choice. The manager in there told us Celebrity are not bothered about repeat business just want guests to have a one off experience. A few things about the ship were not addressed very well at times and the dress code is a joke, even on Chic nights which is supposed to have taken the place of formal nights guests were entering in the dining room in ripped jeans, jogging pants, trainers, shorts and T shirts, all stated as Not acceptable on these evenings. We find this very off putting as you can be sat at the same table when you yourself have gone to the trouble of showering at least and dress according to supposed celebrity dress code. Standards are falling, and where as we thought of Celebrity five star now think of only four star in our opinion. I left what I thought a serious question to be answered by a food and beverage manager to get to the end of the cruise with no feed back ( very dissatisfied) We’ve got to say most of the staff on the ship were lovely and do a great job on board to make your holiday run smoothly, we will continue to sail with Celebrity but hope their standards don’t slip further. As most, we booked this cruise for the opportunity to see the Antarctic. With that comes a lot of sea days and few port days which would normally not be our choice. We've cruised with Celebrity before and also with Oceania, Princess and Royal Caribbean. The Buenos Aires embarkment could have been better. Outside the port, there were so many taxis that our taxi driver dropped us off about a block away to make our own way with all our luggage. Once we got to the area, our luggage was taken from us (great) and we went into a large room with lots of chairs to wait our turn. After about 25 minutes, we went through security and then went to our priority line. To get to the ship, we had to take a bus for a 15 minute drive since the port is very industrial. All went smoothly but hectic. Our concierge cabin was fine but did need some upgrades. I liked the fact that the shower was a little larger than our showers on Solstice or Equinox - every little bit helps. Our seward, Sunjay, was excellent - always asking what he could do for us and being very friendly. We found the food in the MDR good and also in the Tuscan Grille and Murano's. The buffet was fine (as expected) but getting a table was just crazy. There were sea days that we went to the buffet and looked around for a table for quite a while before heading to the MDR to get in there before it closed. With a cruise itinerary with this many sea days, the size of the buffet area was just not big enough. We enjoyed the entertainment. The ship's band was excellent and many of the entertainers were also very good. As with most large ships, the tendering process was also chaotic. That process could be improved. The weather in the Antarctic could not have been better. We saw so may sea birds, whales, seals and penguins during this trip. The glaciers glistened in the sun. We took so many pictures and totally enjoyed ourselves. The captain and his staff safely got us around multiple enormous chunks of ice. We're so glad we took this cruise but honestly it will need to be another very special itinerary to get us to have that many sea days. Read Less

We went on this cruise because it was a 14 day cruise to Antarctica. We have most often cruised with Holland America, but their cruise to Antarctica is 22 days. We had heard that Celebrity is slightly better than Holland america, but we found the opposite to be true. First the good news: Eclipse is a beautiful ship, very well appointed and maintained. It does miss a promenade deck walk way, but there is a small jogging trail on a higher deck. We had the most beautiful weather on the entire trip to Antarctica, and the talks by Dr. Peter, Mickey and Cecilia were very informative. The Service on the ship was a bit hit and miss. Most service crew were pleasant, but some of the Caucasian crew members were not as service oriented, and at one occasion argued with another passenger. The incessant selling of drinks was a bit much. The food was generally good, the buffet had an excellent variety, including Mexican and Indian food, but inexplicably there were no fresh berries available during the whole cruise. The dining room was so slow that we only went there for dinner, and once we were served uncooked pork schnitzel. There was a lack of communication to passengers on the ship. Several times we departed hours late, with no explanation whatsoever. Once we had to wait 3 hours for disembarkation at Port Stanley, without any explanation or apology coming from the ship. Lastly, a general comment. One feature, that seems to be at odds with the times, is that Celebrity creates several different classes of passengers. Suite guests, Aqua class, concierge class each has special areas. We were in steerage. If Celebrity thinks that will encourage us to spend more, they are mistaken. Read Less
