My husband and I were due to take this cruise at Christmas and New Year but was called for replacement hip surgery so we put it back until mid February by which time he was doing extremely well. I had upgraded our cabin to deck 8 (bridge deck) and also took the all inclusive drinks package at £798 so, all in all, this was not a cheap cruise. However, once on board we were invited to upgrade our drinks package for another £200 (making £1000 altogether for drinks for two for 14 days). Apparently our package did not include "top shelf" spirits and we had to pay extra for every can of coke, sprite, orange etc. and even for bottled water. The water in the cabin was charged at 1.90 per bottle and everything in the mini bar was charged as extras. The house wine which was included was just about palatable but ordering from the wine list could set us back another £20 - £25 per bottle for even mediocre wine. A wine package for £174 for 12 bottles was available, but again it was limited mediocre wine on offer..cocktails were also extra. The safe cost £40, yoga £7 pp, a voyage certificate £4.99, wine tasting 7.99 pp. Photographs by the ship's photographer were extortionate prices. Wi Fi was charged at £50 . The coffee shop on board was not included in the drinks package, neither were the cakes and cookies. A la carte restaurant bookings were charged at £20pp so all, in all, we could have spent another £500 each had we been taken in by the hype. The cabin was good, the food was good and the service was excellent but when we tried to get off the ship after one week and go into a Tui hotel in La Romana for our second week we were told that there would be no refund on our second week at sea and we would have to find and pay for our hotel in La Romana. The Marella Celebration is an old ship in need of a great deal of money spending on it. The buffet windows had perished sealing and rust showing through the paint. Carpets were tired and need replacing. The entertainment was adequate but we found that the crew during the days activities talked down to us like children. We met some really nice people on this cruise who were delighted with their experience . It is not an experience I shall be undertaking again. Read Less

We picked this cruise as a package leaving La Romana in the Dominican Republic a one week cruise and then a one week stay at the Be Live Canoa in La Romana. At almost every port new travellers boarding the ship, and every time a safety drill onboard even as late as10:30pm at night blasting in our rooms even us who already did our drill on the first day. Food menu is basically always the same day to day. If you look for tea in the evening the hide it away, and you must ask for it. Who knows why? The state rooms are well kept, and ship is clean. We had a cabine on the second level and heard loud noises from the floor above us which were the fridge units for the dining area. At all times of the night heard shovelling noises and piling of boxes or so. Last day of cruise they offered us to sleep on the eight floor balcony room, and we did, sleped like a baby no noise. We should have complained sooner. I had my lounge chair taken away from me by an Italian tourist, him saying its an italian boat and they have sonority over us. Called security and argued for a while but he won, and me off looking for another place to sit. We watched him and his group to get off the chair but they never left. He had people relaying him to sit in my place. They can keep there ships. Never again will our group of 10 travel on any Italian ship including the Costa line. Does not compare in any way to Celebrity or Royal Caribbean which we both did years before. Read Less

Spent a fortnight on the Celebration in the Caribbean from 20th Dec 2017 to 3rd Jan 2018 and to be honest it was a great holiday apart from the very very poor entertainment from the cheesy dancers performing the same old shows in the Broadway Lounge and not at a decent level at all ,they were badly out of sync and the sound was rubbish ,to say they had some technical issues was not inspiring any confidence at all ,must do better !! sack the sound man ! Also in the Broadway Lounge was a guest comedian for the first week and another for the 2nd week ,let me start with the first weeks shambolic performance ,He was diabolical his jokes were older than the ship itself ,I really cant recall anybody laughing at all. The second week the comedian was equally as bad. we and other passengers found him racist and unfunny all his show mainly consisted of was slagging off the people from Liverpool, it was embarrassing, old hat and disgraceful . Waring a ridiculous suit to perform in does not make you funny, who the hell booked these halfwits. The singers around the ship were good until 2 of the acts went off ill with throat infections as did my wife and numerous other guests. The Cruise director did not replace these acts so again it was more lack of entertainment although they were advertised to perform in the daily cruise news. The Game shows in Liberties were rubbish, using the same old format... shabba , yawn yawn ... If it wasn't for the fabulous staff , from the cabin stewards, cleaners, bar staff , waiters etc holding the ship together it would have been a disaster , they even had a staff show that was excellent and far more entertaining than the so called professionals , well done to them , not to forget the food in the restaurant and Lido it was spot on , well done to little chimiy (restaurant manager) and his team. Tui / Marella need a complete overhaul with there entertainment they provide ,it was a load of rubbish. but apart from them it was a great cruise........shabba.......... Read Less

This was one of the worst vacations that I have ever been on. We are a family of 4 with 2 children, ages 6 and 8. Every port we came to we could not wait to get OFF the ship. The food is terrible and every day it's the same thing in and out. You literally gag walking through the buffet every morning because you are so disgusted and sick of the food. Everything costs extra $. You can't even have pop or a bottled water. It's all extra $. Drinking on the ship is outrageously priced. You are better off to just drink in a town when you port. The dining hall is loud and the meals are served with no rhyme or reason. You'll get your main course and THEN your soup and salad later. The food is mostly frozen and re-heated. Even the kids menu didn't have anything appetizing. A bottle of wine was $23 Euros so for us Canadians it turned out to be about $35 for wine that costs about $12 here. The cabin was the only decent part. We had a balcony room and it had a King bed and bunk beds. LOTS of storage space for your clothing and drawer space. Stow your suitcases right under the bed for more room. Good luck calling room service or trying to get ice. Bring bottles of water and fill them up using the water dispensers in the buffet. Just know they shut them down around 10 pm. In the morning, only coffee, tea and juice are included. The people on this cruise were RUDE and PUSHY! Zero manners! Maybe we're too friendly in Canada, but it was absolutely ridiculous how rude about 90% of the people are. Cutting in front of you in line, not waiting their turns, and I noticed so many people not washing their hands after using the bathroom. GROSS! We were likely in the 2% of English speaking people on the ship. The announcements are always in French and Italian first and then English. I have heard that this is the lowest of the low when it comes to cruises and I wasn't surprised as I read the reviews before hand. Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed! Instead, enjoy your time going to the different ports and getting off the terrible ship. Read Less
