The cabin we had for this cruise was 9196 and is one of the brand new Scenic Ocean View, category 6J, cabins on deck 9 forward. This cabin class was added to the Victory during the latest dry dock that took place in January 2018. The cabin along with the two newly added Captain's Suites and two Scenic Grand Ocean View cabins completely replaces the forward section of category 4J interior obstructed view cabins along deck 9 above the bridge.
The Victory category 4J had been a "hidden gem" in our eyes as it was a larger cabin with a forward facing window at an interior cabin price. As an extra bonus it had easy access to a huge open secluded deck above the bridge that most other cruisers never used. Now that deck space has been completely incorporated into these new cabins which are of course being booked at a higher price.
So is the new Scenic Ocean View cabin worth the added price? Without hesitation, YES!
The moment you walk into the cabin you are greeted by a wall to wall, floor to ceiling picture window view out the front of the ship at the far end of the cabin. The glass is angled inward toward the ceiling and provides an uninterrupted view over the bow. There is a power operated window shade which can be controlled by the switches to the left of the bathroom door.
Along the left side as you walk into the cabin there are a series of three large closets. The first has shelving and a standard sized safe. The second has a half height hanging area and drawers on the bottom. The third has full height hanging space. Next along the left wall there is a sit down vanity with lighted mirror and multiple outlets. There is a small flat screen TV on a swivel mount and a desk. Under the desk is a mini fridge and a set of drawers. Further down the wall is a door to the adjacent cabin.
On the right side as you enter is a keycard holder that activates the room lighting. There is also a door to a standard sized bathroom with a curtained shower.
Past the bathroom is a double sized sleeper sofa with a full sized end table and lamp on the right. Next is a king sized bed that can be split into two twins with half sized end tables on either side with integrated lamps.
Finally in the area by the window are two armchairs with a small coffee table.
The floor space in this cabin is quite generous and the view is even better than a balcony in our opinion with the only drawback that the window does not open.
However, we did note that the walls seem to be very thin and poorly insulated so you can hear noises from the adjoining cabins quite easily.
The Scenic Ocean View Cabin is a true highlight of the dry dock changes that have been made to the Victory and anyone who is looking at booking an ocean view, balcony, or suite should consider this option.
