I was on the Sensation many many years ago. There was a sale I couldn't pass up. Cost for both my husband and I 377.00 with a 100.00 OBC for an inside room. I did get a call the night before because I am platinum that they had an ocean view no charge for us so I took it. I forgot about the fantasy ship purple and brass. Carnival really needs to do something when they do refurbishments they need to make more changes. The pool area was ugly. Maybe I am spoiled but I do not like the mega ships so I have cruised many times on sunshine ( my favorite ), Dream and others. I did fly down from CT I did spend money to get the ship so it wasn't that cheap when I added everything in. Our cabin was m39 and our room steward was awesome!! Our room was nice and cold and always clean. FYI no hair dryer. I forgot to bring mine. Sea days were boring. I am not into bingo , art sales etc. I spent all my time on the serenity area. Way too many kids for one small pool on the lido deck. They need more umbrella's . They only had 4 the first row and after that good luck. It was so hot we used the shower to cool off. If we went into the hot tub we went in early and sat in the shaded part. Food was the worst ever. Pizza , I would not even call it that. I loved it on the the other carnival cruises I have no clue what happened here. I had a grilled cheese at the deli and my bread wasn't even grilled. Dining room only item worth eating was the braised beef, and some of the soups. We did the buffet twice and at least we can maybe find a couple of items. The desserts were lacking at the buffet at night most were diet desserts. The water tasted like water that came out of garden hose. I was so upset not to enjoy any meals. Guys burger too much paprika on the fries and the burger was just okay. Crew staff was always smiling and I thought the ship was kept very clean . Now, the entertainment was awesome, this is what saved my trip. Deon the CD was terrific. Don't miss his trivia nights in the atrium lobby. He sings and dances and gets the crowd going. Just June the comedian was great. We went to all of her shows and the shows at the main theater were actually very good. Casino very smokey and small. Not many places to just chill inside and people watch. Just the main strip near the casino and coffee cafe. They didn't hound the people much for pictures so that was a plus. If they made some major cosmetic changes ( pool area, serenity, and upped their food I would try it again. I like the fact that it's a small ship. Read Less

This message is to warn anyone planning on having a Carnival cruise wedding to NOT DO IT! If it weren’t for my family and friends the entire memory would be a disaster! I planned a carnival cruise wedding on the sensation on July 30,2019. Upon deciding that I would have the wedding with Carnival I submitted all my documents necessary so that the wedding planner on board would be informed of all the details I requested. I paid for the Carnival Classic Platinum package. I had 12 cabins booked full of guests in addition to the suite I paid for. Upon arriving on the ship July 29th, I was told that I’d meet with my wedding planner Victoria right away.. that didn’t happen. I sought her out for the first hour that I arrived and she was not available. She finally reached out to me to let me know that we would meet later in the evening to discuss the wedding details. We met and she seemed friendly, I told her that I wanted to start the ceremony with a bible reading from my brother and proceed with the wedding by the captain. She agreed. I paid for a DJ and requested a blend of music. She agreed. I was told everything would be punctual and you can imagine it wasn’t. The day of the wedding comes and it was set to begin at 2pm. I waited outside the lounge for 20 minutes because the LOUNGE WAS NOT SET UP by her nor the staff responsible. (I have the entire wedding recorded with time stamps in case anyone on Carnival wants to fight me on this). The ceremony begins .. guess what? My brother isn’t able to start the ceremony with the Bible reading. There was no order after the ceremony ended and I walked out, the wedding planner asked if I wanted my brother to do the reading. I said yes so I walk back down the aisle and then leave. Already chaotic and awkward but I deal with it. I was told to stand outside to be reintroduced.. the bar should have been opened for my guests by 2:30 being that I paid for a full hour of open bar. It was 3 pm I was waiting outside to be introduced and the bartender with the most disgusting attitude refused to serve my guests drinks. I also had “specialty” drinks that came with the package she also refused to make them. Her attitude was horrible and mortifying. Again, I didn’t want to ruin my moment so I just rolled with the punches. During the reception we had the cake cutting ceremony. The staff serving us did not provide my guests with cake! They had to cut pieces for themselves!! We also had leftover cake from the reception, my wedding planner said they would deliver the leftovers to my cabin.. I never received that either. The DJ, that I paid extra for played nothing of a mix I requested. Possibly a total of 3 songs at a low volume nonetheless. Although they ran late, they did not hesitate to end the reception at 3:30 on the dot. To the point that I requested one last drink and the bartender slammed the door in my face. I wish I knew her name because I truly would personally send her a note of what a horrible person she is. So I lost out on time at my reception for not being introduced until 3 and can’t even get an extra drink although we were robbed of 30 minutes.. nice right? An experience you paid for! At the end of the reception I left to take pictures. My cousin who was helpful throughout the wedding planning and brought souvenirs and extra decor told me that The wedding planner also was nasty and demanded that She clear everything off the table and tell all the guest to leave. She said these words" you need to get everything off this table and clear out your guest out of this room right now". I’m beyond distraught with the treatment of carnival and its staff they ruined a moment and day I’ll never get back. Not to mention spending $10,000. I paid for a service and expected to receive instead got treated as an inconvenience. In addition, no one on the ship is willing to accommodate your complaints or even care to hear you out. Carnival should be embarrassed at their service or lack their of. Read Less

Platinum cruisers. We chose this cruise because of the itinerary and cruise length. Embarkation in Miami was the best we have ever experienced in Miami. Parking garage could use a bit of TLC but overall the experience was good. Arrived at 10:50am and we were on the ship at 11:00am. Cabin was ready so we were able to drop off some carry on items and go to explore the ship. Cabin was a bit small for a balcony. No couch just a chair. Ship is older but overall in very good condition. Lido buffet never seemed over crowded in lines. Most lines were for pizza and the deli. Main dining room dinner service was good...not exceptional. Food in dining room was okay. As was our experience on our last Carnival cruise. Just not feeling the dining room dinner cuisine. Guys Burgers, and the Cantina were great as always. Bar service was quicker to go up to the bar rather than wait for wait service on pool deck, which is fine. Only visited Alchemy Bar one time on this cruise. Entertainment in the main lounge was very good. The shows were good, and the the performers were good. Deon the Cruise Director was always around and did a great job. Our excursions were great and I will review separately. Sea Day Brunch was not as good as previously. Dining Room breakfast was okay...had the avocado toast. We self assisted leaving the ship for the first time and all went very well. Overall this was a great cruise. Read Less

Short weekend cruise. Taking my grandson for his first cruise. This was our 5th cruise with Carnival. We have always talked highly of Carnival and enjoy the diversity of age on most of their ships. This ship felt overly crowded. Almost impossible to get to the buffet. Even harder to find a chair by the pool and forget getting in the 1 pool they have available on the ship. The room steward for the 1st time ever told us that things have changed on carnival and we can have our room cleaned in the morning or evening but not both there are just not enough people to work. In the dining room we watched as the waiters and waitresses in the dining room walked back and forth empty handed and walked by our table 4-5 times not stopping once to pick up the dirty dishes. When asked one waitress walking by our table she said that wasnt her area and we would have to wait for someone else. Really not sure what is going on with this cruise ship but it does not come close to comparing to any of the other carnival cruises I have taken. Read Less

DO NOT BOOK THIS CRUISE! We had a family reunion / birthday party on the ship. The ship/cruise line was picked by someone in the family who cruises often and promoted the trip as a "great deal" . Although I was happy that someone else planned the trip, this is the last trip that family member will ever plan for us...#sensationFail. There was "NOTHING GREAT" about this cruise, and Carnival nickels and dimes you for everything, so once you add it all up - it was also "NOT A DEAL". There are many better options than this for a great trip. Food: Horrible. If you are into greasy Guy Fierri hamburgers and fries, then you'll be very happy... because that's about the only thing worth eating. Other than that, the entire cruise food choices are very very bad. There are no "restaurants" so your choices are buffets or dining room - both were gross. The crew members on the boat work their butt's off, so no disrespect to them, but sit down dinner service took on average of 3+ hours --- once food arrived, it was a joke. A "side" of broccoli = 1 piece of broccoli with two sprouts. A drink at dinner would take at least 45 minutes to arrive. Entertainment: Horrible. There is almost nothing to do on this ship. You will be out of options on day-2. Pool areas: Horrible. 2,000 people sharing an overgrown hot tub (the pool) and an actual hot tub. The slides -- hahahah -- they don't slide. The kids went down the slide and would get stuck half-way down because there's no water in the middle of slide. Rooms: Good - actually a bright spot here... had a Junior Suite, beds were clean and comfortable, bathroom and shower was fine, balcony was fine. Clean. Embarking/Disembarking - best part of cruise was getting on, then getting off the ship. Very well organized, fast and error free. Read Less

First of all—getting onto the cruise went really smooth and quick, that was great. Although, it was very difficult getting off. The crew blocked stairways and hallways so it was very hard to find where you’re supposed to go. I just went with my mother, I wouldn’t say that it’s the type of cruise for that though—you would want to go with more than one person definitely. The ship was very interesting, it was very shiny and purple haha. When I walked through somewhere I thought I was going to bump into a mirror or something, kinda trippy. This is just my opinion, but it was very hard to find your way around if you are using the stairs. The cabin was pretty small, including the bathroom. The beds were comfortable. My only two complaints about the cabin is when you take a shower, water gets all over the floor and everything, and, on the last day of the cruise, at like, four in the morning, they put up the gangway so we could get of the ship. I was on floor 7, and that happened to be the floor where they put the gangway. Since the ship was in the water, there were small waves (duh) and that rocked the boat a little bit. So, when the gangway was up, the ship was banging against it making this god awful sound for HOURS. I couldn’t sleep for the rest of the morning. The food wasn’t that great, but it was edible. The chefs work very hard and I appreciate them very much, but I probably won’t cruise on sensation anymore because of the food. The dining room food was okay as well. The entertainment was pretty good, there was a lot of stuff that didn’t appeal to me, but I think that’s just me. The comedy was my favorite, the comedians were hilarious, especially Percy Crews 2. He was great. The service was good, the crew who cleaned our room was so nice and said hi every time we saw him. He left little towel animals every time he cleaned which I loved. Deon was hilarious and full of energy, he was so great, and the manager of the comedy shows, Andy, was very hilarious and very helpful. The excursions were great, I played bingo and won $250 and a dolphin swim in Cozumel! It was great. I wouldn’t go on carnival sensation again, but maybe one of their other cruise ships. Read Less

Spring break girls cruise with daughter and granddaughter was everything we hoped for and more. Cozumel is beautiful and a tourist driven economy means they go the extra mile. We never felt unsafe and we cruised almost the entire island in a Dune Buggy. Very fun. The cruise director Deon and Fun Squad (Andy) just made the time on board an absolute blast. The food was good and always something available, from pizza to Guy's Burgers, burritos and made to order sandwiches and the Buffett was real good. The show was entertaining and the comedy club a lot of laughs. The Captain and Officers even came to Lido for extended photo op and waited until everyone who wanted pics with them had a chance to do so. The Wi-Fi worked most of the trip and the Carnival Hub was really helpful. If you have a bad time on this cruise it's on you! Would recommend and go again in a heartbeat. Read Less

Carnival sensation was a wonderful ship. Although one of the oldest. I had read some bad reviews but I have to see for myself. I appreciate the reviews because it helped me decide. This ship was recently redecorated from what I read. It was beautiful! Our cruise director deon was so fun and hella funny! He made the cruise worth it. He is full of energy! Can sing and dance. Kept us up on the happenings. My only complaint is the food. Guys burgers was the best eatery. But if you don't eat pork then this ship is not for you. Room service wings were great for $5. Plenty of places to eat for free. And the wait staff in main dining gives great performances every night. Singing and dancing on the tables sometimes. Comedy was funny as hell in the comedy room. Kareoke was awesome. Great giveaways during the jewelry shows and just all around fun. Food needs an upgrade. Too much pork on board. No turkey sausages or bacon. Chicken sausages is nasty as hell! For your 1st time like me, I had a wonderful time for the low price. Looking forward to my next cruise but on a ship that serves turkey and chicken. With less pork! My cabin was great. Larger than a standard size hotel room. Plenty of storage. The steward john was friendly and very helpful. I tipped everybody at least $2 because the grituity we pay up front is sack. They deserve more than what they get from that. Read Less

I absolutely love my Carnival Cruises. You get a warm welcome as soon as you embark on the ship. Everyone is smiling and waiting to answer your questions. We traveled to Cayman Islands and Jamaica with 2 days of sea days. Our stateroom steward was very friendly and I love how he memorized all our names. The cabin was clean but there when my husband took a shower the bathroom floor flooded. There was a hole on the floor and they had duck tape to cover it. They should do a better job with repairs. I signed my 12 year old daughter for camp but she refused to attend it. I think they should have more entertainment for teenagers. We went to our sit down dinner every night and the food was really good and the service was impeccable. Carnival does an outstanding job making sure their employees provides outstanding service and that is important for me. We did not do excursions at Cayman Island or Jamaica, however, we did get off the ship and took a taxi to the nearest beach at both destinations.Disembarkation day was horrible. The ship was unable to dock in Miami at the scheduled 8:00 am time because of rough waters. This delayed our disembarkation by many hours thus leaving us to sit around waiting for them to call our cabin floor. Once we got off the ship we had to stand in line for about half an hour to go down to get our luggage and go through customs. Overall, the service of the employees was outstanding. I know that these people leave their countries for months without seeing their families and they work diligently all day and night to service us, the customers. I appreciate each and everyone of them and you can best believe that my next cruise will be with Carnival !! As a matter of fact, I booked a cruise to Cozumel on Carnival Paradise in May!! This was my first cruise. As we entered the ship, everything seemed alright. When we became more accustomed to the ship, I started noticing things. The chairs on the main deck with bird feces on the side and parts around the main deck smelled like sewage. Very disgusting. The buffet food was mediocre and best and the crew rarely smiled. The stench of weed engulfed the hallways, just to paint a picture of the type of people were on board. Everything was overpriced from $25 dollar mini sunscreens, $270 massages, and $3.75 waters. It was definitely not an “all inclusive” experience. When we docked to go to Jamaica and the Grand Cayman Islands, we had about 3 hours to acutually enjoy ourselves as waiting in line and disembarking took a lomg time as well as returning back on the ship. I will say that the cruise director Dion was very energetic and engaging with the passengers as well as the cleaning crew who did a great job. Overall, if this is what cruises are like, I’m never going back on one again. Read Less

I’ve gone on four cruises including this one. This is my third ship; i went on the Carnival Victory twice and on a Royal Caribbean ship once. I enjoy carnival’s friendly staff and excursions and affordability. This was the best value trip around this time of year considering number of nights, ports, and total cost, according to a spreadsheet I had put together. The cruise director, Deon, was great. Very energetic and friendly with an infectious joy. The staff were all pretty friendly. I like that they make the effort to remember your name and smile and say hi when they see you. The ship itself is in poor condition. There is a very distinct smell of sewage at decks 3 through 7 in the hallways. There are only two laundry rooms with 3 W/D combos and 2 ironing boards each. The ship’s body has a lot of rust and old water stains. Our bathroom had half its lightbulbs out. There is only one outlet in the room we were in (interior double porthole), as well as one outlet in the bathroom that will only work if you have the light switch on. The shower water pressure is good, and the water gets hot almost instantly. It’s pretty difficult to get drinking water. There aren’t any water fountains of any sort. You can buy bottled water for $3.75 or go to the dining halls, or drink the water from the sink. Activities on the ship weren’t too varied. Karaoke, live music, and shopping took up most of the docket. I was happy to see the love & marriage show in the schedule, but wish there was also a battle of the sexes game and some other games with audience participants. With three of our five days being at sea, a better variety of hands-on events and not just performances would have been more stimulating. The excursions we took were amazing! Dunn’s River Falls and Zip line in Ocho Rios Jamaica was adventurous and fun. Rides to excursion weren’t too long. The Kayak and stingray City was absolutely the highlight and my favorite thing out of all cruises I’ve taken so far. We kayaked at a leisurely pace through the mangroves and saw lots of iguanas and even got to hold a jellyfish. We had ample time in stingray city. Everyone got to hold the stingray and take pictures, with time to spare. Be prepared to bring cash to tip your excursion guides and drivers. Despite the great excursions, the poor quality of the ship really brought down the experience for me. I’m not a seasoned cruiser quite yet, but in comparison to the three others I’ve taken, this is the worst ship by far. I just couldn’t get over the smell. They also didn’t have any staff performances at dinner time, which was always my favorite part of the carnival cruises. Any time we had to disembark the ship, it took almost 30-45 minutes and it was hectic and unorganized. They could easily have cut the time in half if they had opened another line (which they definitely could have—there was a whole lane just not being used) for onboarding and offboarding. I hope they retire this ship soon. Dining options were good. Our server always forgot my soda whenever I ordered one, though. They would charge me and then I would have to ask for it again halfway through my main course. I personally don’t think the soda package is worth it unless you drink 2+ sodas at lunch and dinner. You have to go to the bar to get sodas for lunch. Other ships I’ve been on had Coca Cola Freestyle machines to dispense soda at your own leisure. Read Less

We choose this cruise as we wanted to go on a New Year's Eve cruise. It was a little pricey for 5 days, but for this time of year it was expected. I had read the reviews about the ship, so I was a little concerned about the wear and tear. I was pleasantly surprised, our room was fine and the décor & seating around the ship looked good. The place that really needs a lot of attention is the windows, a majority were very dirty. We had an ocean view room and you could see the build up in the corners. Our stateroom steward, Leo, was very attentive to us. The quilt on my daughter's bed had a mark on it and he changed it right away. Our cabin was perfect for us and very clean. For the entertainment, our cruise director, Deon, truly made the trip enjoyable. He is so energetic and made us laugh with his quick wit. The events at the atrium bar on the Empress deck were the best. I hope he will be the director on our next cruise. For the food, it was good. There were a couple of nights we ordered surf and turf from the speciality menu ($$) as the nightly options and standard menu did not have choices we liked. Our hospitality crew was great. Arnel, our head waiter, was fantastic!!!1 For our port stop in Ocho Rios, we did an ATV excursion booked through Carnival. I wanted to do something that my husband would enjoy. This was the best excursion, we all had a great time, the ride was about an hour and a half through trails and back roads. Prior to heading out, they offered us the option to pre-order lunch (jerk chicken) that arrived shortly after we returned from the ride. As this is a staple in Jamaica, we got it. It was really delicious and I suggest getting it. Another fun part of the excursion was the jump off a cliff into the ocean. My daugther did it 3 times. She loved it. If we ever go back to Ocho Rios, we would do this excursion again. Remember to take tip money with you as we had 3 guides with us. I would recommend to have small bills as there is a store where you can buy drinks and souvenirs, but she didn't have much change. We also stopped in Grand Cayman, where we walked around the town and got lunch on the water. We love this port. Overall, we loved everything about this cruise. It was a little pricey for only being 5 days. Read Less

My fiancé and I were invited to go on this cruise with close friends and their family. We had never cruised with Carnival before, but did enjoy the ship. There were a few things that stuck out to me as odd: 1. There was a strong odor of sewage that either was in our room or on the main decks. 2. While there were activities to do, the activities that did not cost extra money lacked. There was only one ping pong table, and it was mostly hogged by younger kids. 3. The pool was small, and packed in by many adults and kids. Although they offer a “serenity area” (21+), it only included two hot tubs, about 40 beach chairs, and no pool. They also have a dress code for the serenity area which seemed strange to me. Besides those three things, it was a great experience. I would cruise with Carnival again, but not on the sensation. I believe there are a few kinks they need to work out. The dinning room was beautiful and the food was fantastic, especially for the price in comparison to other cruise lines. Went on this trip with my family and a travel group. My second time traveling with this group and had a lovely time. We left from Miami to Princess Cay Island which was lovely. This island is privately owned by cruise company and the you can use your room key to purchase here. Also Carnival provided lunch on the island. Next stop was Nassau, Bahamas we did a guided tour this time 20.00 per person which I could hear others saying different prices which varying from 20.00 to 30.00 pp. The guided tour was cool I got see a little more of the island. Food on this cruise was okay. Breakfast we ate at the omelet bar which was delicious with your your choice of fresh vegetables, cheese, bacon or ham. They also had a all you can eat side with pancakes, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, hash browns, baked beans, bacon, sausage and breakfast burritos. There is also a area that offers brunch where they bring the food to you. Lunch they had typical burger joint which I stuck with. They had a salad bar and a taco bar. Drinks we got the free stuff (I learned from my first trip I do not drink enough soda to even bother with the plan) orange juice, lemonade, cranberry juice and water. Side note: bring a travel cup so you do not have to make a bunch of trips to the ice machine. We often are dinner in the assigned fine dining Restaurant. On the last night we went in the casual dining Restaurant and I was not too happy with it dried out pasta with vegetables that I had to mix with another dish to give some life back to the dish. Wait staff was SUPER AWESOME my 6 yr old niece was having a moment and the waiter went over and beyond to calm her down. Each night he would show her different ways to fold animal napkins, he did magic tricks for the kid and us adults. The room stewart was awesome too! He was very tentative to our needs. My heads up is about if you have a strong sense of smell you might have a problem. We smelled what at least think was the smell of raw sewage twice on this ship. Once in our room and the other time was in the Restaurant where they did brunch. The smell greeted you at the door but not in the back. The staff faces looked like they could smell it too, you know the look where you hold your breath so you don't smell anything and putting your hand right below your nose so you can smell your hand lotion. Overall: the trip was enjoyable we made some memories and that is all that matters. Will I travel Sensation again: Probably not due to the smell issues only. Read Less

My husband, daughter, son in law, our 8 year old granddaughter and myself cruised from Miami to Key West, Cozumel, and back to Miami this year from Nov 1 thru Nov 5. The cruise itself was fun and enjoyable. There were some issues with some minor things- towels looking yellow instead of white, rusted toilet, beds uncomfortable, dining room service was good, but extremely slow getting food out. All entertainment was really good and my granddaughter really enjoyed the slides. It was the disenbarkment that was a nightmare. When we were all getting off the boat my husband and myself was rudely pulled out of line and we were told that my husband was being detained by customs and we were going to be escorted. We were so confused and didn’t have any idea what was going on. This lady that was screaming and pushing everyone out of the way to get us where she wanted us to go. She was screaming at me telling me I was to go outside and wait on my husband. Once we got to the point where we were going to be separated she pointed to another rude lady and told me to go “over there”. Once I got there this second lady told me I was in the wrong line and sent me back to the original lady and she began screaming at me and said “I TOLD YOU to go over there and to leave” I was trying to tell her I was trying to leave but I was sent back to her. After my husband was taken away from me I finally made it outside. Finally my husband game out and said that there was another person with his name that had a felony warrant out on him and they THOUGHT it was him. After having policemen surrounding my husband, finger prints, taking his picture, looking at his license, birth certificate they figured out he was the WRONG Person. This nightmare lasted over an hour. I was devastated and was scared to death not knowing where my husband was. I understand people have jobs, but what happen to the hospitality, professionalism, kindness with people? Carnival embarrassed not only us but themselves. This far from being over.... but I wanted to share this so you can be prepared if this happens to you. Read Less

Chose this cruise as a quick get away weekend with my daughter. there was a hurricane in the gulf and it did impact our trip, but really was happy with the direction of the Captain. Staff is so overworked. Our steward appeared to have little time to meet us but he did a very good job considering he had more than 20 rooms each day. The cruise is very inexpensive but with that come a less desirable type of guests. Rules of decor and dress are not enforced and cheap and tacky was the clothing in the dining room. In the past, if a guest was not properly dressed, they were "encouraged" to either change or go to the buffet. Bathing suits with see through cover-up, cut off jeans with rear ends hanging out, baseball caps on sideways and saggy jeans were seen each visit to the dining room The recreation staff were efficient but once again way overworked. You could see them running from one event to another it appeared as if the entertainment staff consisted of 4 people. I am sure they are dead at the end of each day. The low cost of the cruise may be bringing in more people, but the service and quality has gone down considerable. I doubt I will come back to Carnival for future cruise. Read Less

We have been on different cruise lines and different Carnival ships and to my shock, this was the best cruise I've ever been on. This was a cruise for just myself and my son to celebrate his college graduation. This was a hurricane season trip so for one, we took a gamble because this was a great value. Secondly, a few days before sailing we were offered an upsell from our deck 5 mid ship ocean view to an Empress Deck balcony. The price wasn't bad and I took it. So glad we did. We typically always book balconies but since my wife wasn't going I originally booked an OV because I figured we would save the money since it was just guys, We flew to Ft. Lauderdale the morning of the trip from Cleveland. Everything from a travel standpoint went smoothly. We prepaid for Carnival transportation to Miami and that went smoothly as well. I appreciated being able to check in at the airport alleviating the need to stand in line at the port. When we arrived at the port, we walked right on the ship. We had to wait until 1:30 to access our room which wasn't an issue. A burrito from the Blue Iguana and burger from Guy's and we were ready to get to our room. This is one of the oldest ships in the fleet and the staterooms are where you feel it the most. Our stateroom was configured oddly since we asked for separate twin beds. This stateroom also had optional pull down beds as this was set up to accommodate up to 4 passengers. I wouldn't want to cram 4 people in there. For the two of us we had plenty of storage space. It was a small room compared to the other ships we had been on, but the balcony was a great addition. I love sitting on the balcony at night and listening to the sea so this was a great upgrade. We chose YTD for this trip. We packed light for this trip and did not bring clothes for formal nights. If you must get anything on day one, get the strawberry cake pops from the buffet. Those are a definite guilty pleasure. We ate in the MDR each night except formal night. We were never disappointed in the selection or quality. We have in the past had spotty service in the YTD MDR on previous trips. The service on this trip was spot on from the beginning to the end. We also ate in the MDR for seaday brunch. Many stacks of pancakes later we were stuffed. Kevin Donohue was our CD and for the first time ever an CD made a difference in our cruise. Kevin was fantastic. He was fun and entertaining without being over the top or obnoxious. He seemed to genuinely enjoy the interaction and kept the fun going every day. I was impressed with how he dealt with events and people. So much fun. Kudos to Kevin for being the best we've had. We attended the love and marriage show (awkward and hysterical). We went to the towel folding demonstration. This was my son's idea, but surprisingly fun. He won at trivia so he was happy to have his ship on a stick. Carnival had no choice as to what the weather would be, but the weather was perfect each and every day. You can't complain with 85-90 and sun every day. We did a private all inclusive in Nassau and enjoyed it. We missed Half Moon Cay on our last trip and was able to go this time. I absolutely love HMC. It's the softest sand and crystal clear water. It's a bucket list beach. We knew there would be a seaweed issue in Grand Turk so we booked the Snorkel and Stingray excursion through the ship. We had 24 people on this excursion and had a blast. If this excursion had 50-60 people it would have been chaos, but 24 was manageable. I just could not believe how much we enjoyed this cruise and this ship. We went off peak so there were minimal kids, no crazy rowdy parties. Just people having fun. Having only one pool meant the pool was shoulder to shoulder people. If you wanted a chair by the pool get there early. The chairs weren't being hogged, they were being used. If you don't mind an older ship this was a great option for us. Relax, chill and have a good time. take a chance on an off peak trip. We would definitely do this again to go back to HMC. Great time had by all. Read Less

We had our adult children pick this cruise and went with them. Price was a big factor. I would not do a 5 day cruise again after being on 7 n 8 day cruises. Seemed very rushed all week. No lobster offeredto on regular menu unless you paid extra. Service was really good. Love Carnival but not the Sensation. It needs some major renovations. It was also hard to get around...confusing floor plan. This was our 13th cruise so we had a lot to compare it to. Love our ports of call! Nassau, Half moon cay and Grand Turk. The entertainment was ok. Really wished they did more around the pool such as the 1 dance party. Did not really feel the Cruise director Kevin interacted with the guest that much. Only time we saw him was during actual events for a short time. Really like how easy embarkation and disinformation was. Great improvement over other cruises we have done. Read Less

After planning this family vacation for 28 people for over 13 months, carnival let me down extremely. I want to make sure i am transparent on this review so that others can use this to make a better decision than I did when planning. 1. My carnival travel agent was Yanely Pardo. Very courtesy and friendly young lady. She helped book over 25 persons on this cruise for us. We thought that most of us would be book in side by side rooms, but when we arrived for some reason we were very scattered on the ship making it hard to enjoy being together, but that was a very minor issue. 2.The ship was fair. It seem to be a very old ship but it was kept fairly well and was clean enough to be comfortable. We had an ocean view cabin on deck 4 and it was okay. Everything worked properly and we were able to be comfortable while in the cabin. 3. Dining was a very unfortunate part of the cruise. The food was tasteless. The buffet served a different themed food every night (ex. Caribbean, French etc), but food was not seasoned well. For dinner at the Fantasy dining room the food was the same; tasteless. Portions were small, but fair. 3a- the bottomless and cheers programs are a rip off. For the cheers program they ask that every adult in the room purchase the package at 50+ dollars a night which is not fair especially if there are others that do not drink in the room. The bottomless drinks we purchased for the kids did not include bottled water (this is stated on the site, but i over looked it so this is not on them, but I do find it unreasonable to not add water in a package with juice and soda). 4.Water activities for the kids. on this particular boat there was 1 water section for the toddler kids. The website states that toddlers are not allowed to wear swimmers or any thing of that kind that resembles a diaper and we also failed to notice this fine print, but the issues was not with the rule but more the RUDENESS of the staff when trying to address us about my nephew wearing a swimmer. When I inquired on why they explained so then I asked what they would suggest because he has paid the full amount to enjoy all activities on the boat. The staffer (who had no sincere concern on helping the situation) tells me that he take it off and just wear the trunks. While he was explaining this to me the Housekeeping supervisor comes in and starts to impatiently tell me why he could not wear the swimmer and annoyed he starts to speak slowly as if I didn't understand English. Even went as far as telling me that I could do what ever I needed to do. Which then made me irate and i went down to guest services to ask for his supervisor only to get someone under him! Very poor customer service in this situation that created a unpleasant mood for our family on this cruise. 5.Servicers on the ship drive on getting you to purchase more more and more because they get tips off of everything you purchase. My husband purchased several buckets of beers (which includes 4 beers for $24 yes $24) One of his servers brought back a ticket for 8 beers (this is double the amount as well as in tip amount). 6. Since there were almost 30 of us we decided not to use any of Carnivals excursion they offered on the site (extremely expensive). We ended up going to Playa Mia Grand Beach park. Each adult paid $45 for entry & buffet (only juice and water included). Kids under 11 years paid $35 for the same. 7. Guest services- Although most guest service reps were kind and helpful there was one gentlemen who seemed to be annoyed with having a job. I reviewed my invoice and found a $51.80 charge for service (maid, kitchen staff). so I asked what it was for and he then told me that it was a mandatory charge per person. So i left it alone only to find out the next morning that it was only a recommended charge and that i prepaid for it for myself and husband prior to the cruise. I asked another young lady to remove the charge for the children (3 kids) and she did and handed me a receipt for the removal of the charge, but the next day once I received the invoice i was charged the $51.80 for each child anyway. Although this was my 1st cruise and I was not sure what to expect the overall experience wasn't as grand and wonderful as we had hope it would be. Planning for 13 months to arrive and having staff be insensitive and unaccommodating as well as having servicers nickel and dime us at every chance did not make the trip fun or relaxing at all. I would not recommend a Carnival cruise to anyone and would not spend my own money on booking with them again. So much confusion and extra fees. I plan on trying another cruise line soon to see how the experience is suppose to be before determining if i am going to cruise regularly. Read Less

If this is your first cruise, you MAY enjoy it. It being our 5-6th time, this was by far the worst. First time sailing with Carnival and might be the last. Trying to be optimistic and blaming it on this specific ship but we’ll see. We chose this cruise because it was going to the two island we were dying to see. Carnival SENSATION sailed to Nassau, Half Moon Cay, and Grand Turk on Sept. 1-5th. Ports were amazing just as imagined. However, the ship... geesh. Sensation was extremely outdated and rusty. TAKE CARE OF YOUR SHIPS CARNIVAL! Some of the couches in the lounges I was terrified to sit on. Looked dusty and old. While going to watch a show, for lack of better terms- the “mini drink table” connected to each individual seat, fell on my ankle! Like we weren’t having a ‘great’ time already! Oh best part, ready? THERE WAS ONE POOL. The staff - house keeping was amazing. We had Fredie in M26 and Dedy in R98. Both two amazing guys. The Dining Room staff was for the most part great! We had one guy who seemed to be having a bad day and taking it out on his tables. The Lido staff ( buffet area I believe) was nice, speedy, and polite. When we just boarded the ship we were a bit lost on where to go. There was at least 5 crew members surrounding us and not one stepped up to help. We are used to staff being extremely friendly and going above and beyond for cruisers. Food- having ice cream 24/7 was fantastic. Entertainment - Very limited. Those that did perform did great. Bingo host was awesome - BAM! Shore excursions - We did snorkeling in Grand Turk with the Chukka crew. Tito and Johnathan had a lot of patience, super fun, and great instructors! Best part of the trip!!!! Read Less

I will start off with saying that I did not chose the Carnival Sensation to sail- I was part of a large group. I have previously only sailed NCL ships and was very hesitant to sail this ship due to all the reviews. Overall, the ship is old and very outdated but let's be real people for the price you're paying. . . you are getting what you paid for in that department. We had a balcony room with no issues. The hallway did smell like sewer and there was a room in our party who had the smell in their room. Carnival should really do something about this! Our cabin was clean for the most part, it could have used a very good dusting however, clean. I had set my expectations low for dining due to the poor reviews and was surprised with the good meals I did get. Breakfast was typical breakfast food at the buffet or you could sit in the dining room. Lunch was not much to be desired and if you have the later dining time they close the buffet in the afternoon leaving you little to no snack options to hold you over. I have had worse meals and I have had better but I will say the Carnival lava type dessert was to DIE FOR! I have zero complaints about the service in either the buffet or dining room. The AC was not working in the buffet, which was kinda awful to come in from the pool and be just as hot. The entertainment on the ship was so-so. One comedian was great, the other not so much. The Cruise Director and staff were great entertainment. We traveled to Key West and Cozumel. Both ports were great. Our party did an excursion in Cozumel however not through Carnival. I also had a spa service while on the cruise. The spa manager was to put it nicely RUDE. The spa is placed under the mini golf so you hear people walking/running and a golf ball rolling around. A staff (not my masseuse) and fellow guest also walked in on me while I was getting undressed, I guess my masseuse did not change the outside of the door to "occupied." I didn't bother complaining due to my previous statement about the manager being rude. If you are looking for a cheap 4-day cruise to have fun and getaway this is for you! If you are looking for the 5-star cruise experience this isn't for you. Read Less

This is our 5th cruise and 2nd time cruising with carnival. Our first cruise was with carnival and we had an amazing time back then. However, this time we were very very disappointed.I am going to be direct and concise so I will make a list. 1. Back of the ship was rusting and overall the ship was poorly maintained. 2. The food is my biggest problem. 8 different types of dishes were served at dinner, lunch and of those 8 were meat! No taste, low quality food for guests that paid $400+ a trip which eating makes a big part of it. The burger place was meh. Burgers had no taste, fries were badly seasoned. The Peruvian guys working in were great though and would go an extra step to make us happy. 3. The Alcohol and Beverage package. Most cruises have open bar beverage packages or unlimited drinks. Carnival imposes a 5 min wait per drink and 15 maximum. How greedy can they be? Plus most alcohols were not grade. Beer was overpriced compared to Royal and Norweigan, drinks consisted of a single shot and mostly ice, ice and more ice. If you tell a bartender to put more alcohol they give you a disconcerting look and tell you no that's not allow. 4. The cards, the greatly annoying cruise cards! I paid for my father's drink beverage so the old man can drinks few water down mojitos. By the end of the night he still had 11 drinks left in his package. Me and my wife used ours so every time I tried to use my dad's cards, which I paid for and we have the same last name, they would treat me in such a manner and deny me drinks. This one bartender took the card checked the photo, slammed in front of my seat and ignored me while he went to another customer. Extremely rude! I have never been in a cruise that has such poor quality in both itinerary and service. The food was disgusting, the drinks were poorly made, the service was cold and rude at the bar areas and overall every chance they get Carnival tries to scam you in either extra chargers to your card or some weird excuse to make you pay. DO NOT RECOMMEND!! Read Less

If you are thinking of travelling on Carnival Sensation please DONT If you are thinking of booking any Carnival ship please be aware if you encounter any problems your concerns will be ignored. I have waited several weeks to post my review to give Carnival customer services time to redeem themselves. But they have not. My advice is please think before spending your hard earned money booking a cruise on this ship as it may be memorable for all the wrong reasons. This is the first time in 20 years of cruising I have felt the need to complain. On sailing we reported smoking on a nearby balcony (it appeared to be Marijuana) to our steward who said it would be reported immediately as this was very serious (it was not) We raised a security issue with regard to a group of minors on our deck, on more than one occasion some of the children in the group appeared intoxicated. So had either brought alcohol onboard or were being served by staff despite being clearly underage to drink. If security officers were visible this may have curtailed their behaviour. Other issues were the state of the cabin the bed was uncomfortable with bedding that was stained and smelt of others peoples sweat, we had to wrap pillows in towels to try to use them. The back of the boat smells constantly of sewage. The toilets do not always empty on the initial flush, sometimes taking several seconds even up to a few minutes before emptying. One day the toilets did not work at all, we could not use the bathroom to shower as other people’s sewage had backfilled up to the brim of the bowl and the smell may us gag. We were advised to use public restrooms but these also had toilet bowls full of sewage so we had to wait until we left the ship. To keep this boat sailing with continuing inadequate toilet systems must be contravening all health and safety legislation and putting passengers at risk of serious illness. Most hand sanitisers onboard are also empty and did not appear to be refilled throughout the whole 5 night voyage We complained on board and were treated with complete disdain and rudeness by guest service staff. I sent an e-mail to Carnival and only then were we called to a meeting with guest services We met with Carol-Anne and several very pleasant officers (I assumed looking at other reviews since leaving the ship that Carol-Anne is busy with these meetings on a regular basis). We were advised that our cabin steward had a duty to inform his superiors when smoking especially if it is alleged to be Marijuana on board is reported to him and that Carnival in turn must report this to the federal authorities. As the smoking continued every night until we docked I assume this did not happen even after our meeting. With regard to the toilets we were advised “it’s a problem very occasionally and possibly it was a passenger putting things into the bowls” but as we (and Carnival) are fully aware from looking at complaints this ship has had for many months and continues to have problems with the sewage disposal system onboard To sum up this ship should not be in service it is a health hazard and the fact that Carnival has not had a mass outbreak of illness on board is down to luck not good management. The ship is dirty with staff that do not seem to care. The only people we encountered that were polite and friendly were the ladies in the anytime dining restaurant.. All other staff seem to treat the passengers as an inconvenience. I actually feel very sorry for them at least we could escape after 5 days but they have to deal with ongoing complaints on every sailing and live onboard this outdated ship. We were offered a derisory 15% discount off a future cruise but I would not sail with Carnival ever again so this is rendered useless.I sent my comments to Mr Arnold Donald’s e-mail address and received this reply “ Thank you for following up with Mr. Donald regarding your recent cruise experience. He has shared your letter with me and asked that I respond on his behalf.” So apparently Mr Donald is aware of all the problems on board the Sensation and is still happy to take bookings for the foreseeable future.
