Spring break cruise with family (wife, married daughter and three grand-kids (8 - 18)). This was our 23rd cruise, 5th on Carnival. Not a big fan of Carnival and get much better perks on other cruise lines, but Carnival was my (daughters choice). Had high hopes for the new ship but was generally disappointed. Embarkation and debarkation were chaotic. Had an early debark number (#7; expectation of 8:30 debark), but the debark was probably the worst ever (longest; over 2-hours). Ended up taking a taxi vice the planned ship's shuttle to the airport as we were concerned about missing flights due to debark delays. Food (main dining room and buffet) was the worst on any cruise; all in our party of six agreed on this point. Always very long lines for omelette stations, with several stations closed inexplicably during peak breakfast hours. Ice cream stations always a mess. Very little emphasis on hand sanitation in dining spaces as compared to most other ships. Elevators were a disaster; long waits always. Elevator floors are entered in a system in the elevator lobby and you are assigned an elevator which will stop on that floor. People would give up and take stairs after waiting 5-minutes, thus elevators would still stop on floors no one on-board wanted, which further added to delays. Balcony cabin was average for a newer ship. Nothing special but no real complaints other than that any new ship should be designed with phone charging ports on either side of the bed. We were deck 9 under the rum bar on deck 10. Noisy in the early morning with deck chair scrapings above. Paid the price for highest Internet connectivity, but quality was still erratic and it was generally slow. Was constantly bumped off Internet thus had to frequently re-log in Internet and Carnival Hub. Cabin attendant did a good job; waitstaff tried hard but most dining room meals experienced long delays between courses. We usually had to skip dessert to make a show. Think they had too many assigned tables. Captain said there were over 4000 guests including over 1,000 children on board. As a result, all "play" areas/pools were jammed. Not unexpected on a spring break cruise. Read Less

So in April 2018 I took my first cruise on the vista, loved it so much. When I got off, I told my family of 30 how great it was. Do we booked a cruise on the horizon. Nothing like the vista!!! There were only a few shows, the food in main dining was horrible. 2x I left the restaurant. Was not happy at all. The ride (like a bike in the sky) was down most of the days. Our family never got to use it as it was only working 2 days of the 9 days I was on the ship. The staff cleaning the rooms were GREAT!!! The staff in the dining room were ok. The time u had to wait for your food was bad!! Then they never checked on us, so if something was wrong your stuck, in fact we walked out one of the nights due to this Read Less

My party of 11 sailed from NY on Aug 20-28. It’s been over 10 years we did not sail Carnival and had hoped for a great vacation keeping in mind it’s Carnival newest biggest ship. Sad to say we were very disappointed!!!! There were a few highs and lots of lows about the ship. Let’s start with the Highs. Embarkation was the BEST ever! It was very well planned/organized. None of the other lines is as easy as this. LOOOVEEEE it! Keep up the good work. Our Dining room staff was very friendly. We had the late dinner in the Reflections Restaurant and our head waiter, Michael was truly a terrific guy. His assistant Alex and Rosalyn too were great! Our cabin steward -Ike (Ikonomo- Sorry about the spelling of his name) is truly remarkable. He kept our room tidy and clean at all times. Very accommodating to my late risers. Dinner at Cucina del Capitano (the Italian Restaurant) was DELICOUS!!! The garlic bread…OMG was good! Service was excellent! Dinner at JI Ji Asian Kitchen-I personally did not eat here, but 2 of my grown kids did and said it was “REALLY REALLY GOOD!!! Great service too! Lows The Cheers (drink package) – 2 NO NOs on this! a. What good is a drink package if you cannot use it the very first day on the ship. Vacation for me started as soon as I boarded the ship! Some members of my party had to spend extra $ just to have a drink that afternoon. b. Then, why do I have to buy a drink package if I DO NOT drink, but my husband does! Just not right! The food on the Lido deck(Marketplace) was very limited – not much choices The Marketplace (Lido deck) floor was VERY slippery. The tiles were beautiful but not functional for a heavy traffic area. The Photo gallery - a total rip off! Not much choices about packages. And yes, I am comparing this to other rival ships. For instance, I was able to purchase ALL photos for a reasonable price on the other ships. Casino – very limited area...way too small for 5000 people! I am not a gambler but would have loved to have seen more slot machines and table games. The Casino should have a smoking and non-smoking area. The area is too small and confined. No matter where I sat someone is always smoking! And this is a turn off for nonsmokers. Dining - If I am going to dinner in a restaurant, I would expect to have it set up beautifully…this means having a table cloth EVERY night! Not just on the Captain nights. What a disappointment! If I’m taking the time to get dressed to come to dinner at a restaurant, let it be worth it! If not I could have just as well to have gone to the lido deck and have my dinner there. The standards have dropped considerably!! The food in the Reflections dining room is mediocre. When my 21-25 years old family members commented on this, I knew it was bad! Young ones of that age are usually less picky!!! The foods were tasteless. The smell of marijuana in the hallways- I know Carnival can’t control this, but people you can! The rowdiness of the passengers – have some decorum people! Treat the ship as a great resort vacation! It certainly is not cheap vacation! I hated writing this review, but i wanted others to know what to expect. This was my last vacation with Carnival! Read Less

I normally don’t write reviews or complain but this cruise is so bad I felt the need to warn others before spending your hard earned money. We are currently on the Horizon that sailed out of NY on 8/20/18. I am so disgusted with this cruise that I took the time to write this review while currently on board. I will start with the few positives first. We are staying in the family harbor suites. Then suite is nice and roomy. I will say having the small tub/shower and being 6’3 made taking a shower a lot easier than using the small shower in the main bathroom. Our cabin stew Marco is outstanding and very friendly. The one drawback on being deck 2 with the balcony, you need to be mindful of what’s happening above you. Several times I was sitting out on the balcony and got soaked from the staff washing something. I called several times and complained and all I got was a rude head of housing keeping saying he will look into it. The family room is nice to grab something quick before heading off the ship, and the snacks throughout the day are a nice touch. Bonsai Sushi was very good, so was guys pig and anchor. This is where the positives end. This cruise has 4 sea days and you are lucky to get a chair anywhere on the boat during those days. The Lido desk is near impossible unless you are there before 10am. The serenity deck is the same situation. Forget getting into any hot tub or pool. Unless you like being crammed in like sardines. We had the late dinning midship and first impressions the tables are very small and tight. The wait staff seems very inexperienced and not friendly. They never asked once what we wanted to drink, how we would like our steaks prepared and the food came out warm at best. As many have stated the lines at the egg station, guys burger joint, burrito bar and pizza are at least a good half hour to 45 mins. The buffet had limited choices and nothing overly kid friendly say like chicken fingers and maybe mac and cheese. The one time I found them it was for the kids club only. The food is just generally not good over salted and dry. I am very disappointed with this cruise and after taking six Carnival cruises this will be my last. After speaking with several other guests we happen to meet along the way all agreed. I know Carnival won’t do anything but we all plan on sending letters after this cruise. Save your money and look elsewhere. Carnival managed to screw up a perfectly brand new boat. Read Less

The Horizon ship is nice—brand new and clean. We stayed on the family floor—suite. The room was nice and so was the crew. I rated this experience as poor because the ship is over crowded—ruined our experience. Also, the pools and hot tubs are small and packed with people. The waterslide area is neat, but too crowded—long lines. The trip is 4 days on the boat at sea. This many days at sea should have a less crowded boat for sure. Good luck finding a chair on the deck/s after 11 am. The minigolf and games outside are pointless with all the wind—bikes were even closed at times due to wind. Our daughter liked to go to the kids club now and again. All the meals that were included with the price were buffet and just ok. For us, the positives did not make-up for the over crowded ship. We will not cruise Carnival again. Read Less

We decided to try something new & cruise out of our home city in new york. the carnival horizon seemed like the obvious choice, b/c it was carnivals newest ship. unfortunately we were wrong . for starters once you embark on the ship chaos ensues , b/c there elevator system has been revamped , which confuses the hell out of everyone . Each sector of floors has its own elevator, normally you get into an elevator select a floor & there you are .. Not here . one of my biggest complaints which is the deciding factor of me not stepping onto another carnival cruise again , is the food... The buffett is subpar at best, that includes all 3 phases breakfast, lunch & dinner. the dining room experience is horrifying , there completely understaffed , the dining room crew are over worked & not very personable. The food is mediocre at best , i had to return dishes left & right. the quality of food is not on the level it needs to be. When you get to the point where you dread going to eat on a cruise, you know something is wrong. there were 2 specialty restaurants we ate at on the ship, where there is a upcharge to dine , & they were amazing. Fahrenheit 555 & cucina italian. What bothers me is that they have the capability of producing a high level eating experience , but fail miserably of providing it in the main dining area. The dining room decor is not elegant whatsoever, very bland layout, another major complaint is the port time stays. We docked at 3 caribbean islands grand turk, puerto rico, & puerta plata dominican republic. 2 of islands we were allotted times of 7am- 2pm.. Which is horrible b/c you have to wake up very early, & then time is limited to do anything significant. Usually on other cruise ships, port stays extend longer than the 2pm time frame,. the ship overall didn't have that " wow " factor being that it's a brand new ship. The ship has a basic feel to it, nothing special . We liked the havana lounge a lot , but other than that everything else fell flat. We made the best of our vacation , b/c we planned this trip several months back, & we paid over $6,000 dollars to stay in a suite, which was very nice, no complaints about the room. Future cruisers beware , don't take the plunge with this cruise offering b/c you will get soaked. oh i forgot 1 more thing , the second day in , our air conditioning wasn't working , at it took all day to fix .. New ship & no a/c in a suite ... unacceptable Read Less

I chose the cruise, because I went with family. The ship is very nice (new), but I felt it was lacking warmth & 'industrial' looking. It's easy to get around the ship & there are many places to go for quiet time. Plenty of kids' activities. If you're not a fan of having children around, skip this. The Cruise Director, Chris Williams, was excellent & very, very involved & energetic. The production shows were wonderful, but the comedians were awful. I was disappointed that there was no farewell show in the Liquid Lounge. Seating in the lounge is sparse, so get to the show at least a half hr. early. Finding seating at the buffet was easy. The food at the late buffet was horrible. Dessert was a joke...chocolate chip & oatmeal cookies. There were no cakes of any sort. The cabin was very comfortable, with plenty of storage. Don't forget to bring a magnet, so you can hang all the paperwork you want. Shore excursions were nice & mostly beach oriented, with snorkeling, etc. The service in the dining room & buffet was very efficient. Carnival has cheapened up (not the prices). Dining room served very small portions, especially the salad. Read Less

9 day cruise UGH. Let’s start by saying every vacation has a few bumps, and I have been on many cruise vacations and land vacations. I will list the pros and cons, to be fair. Pros, - getting on and off the boat was a positive experience. It was relatively quick and one of the easiest, compared to other cruise lines. The hamburgers were very good. The buffets at the pig and anchor and the Italian resterants, very good and no charge. Pizza was good if you like waiting on lines Piano bar player Eden Parker was the real deal. Great time. Comedians were pretty good That’s about it on the pros, CONS- The boat is way overcrowded 5000 people and does not look NEW. I have been on Oasis and Allure of the seas Big boats 5000 people and did not feel like I was in a herd of cattle. The boat is not easy to navigate. The elevators are a nightmare, new system new technology, it sucks be prepared to walk and take the stairs. The room was extremely small with no storage. Yes, I get an inside cabin and my kids also had their own cabin. I always get the inside cabin because we are hardly in the room. These were the smallest rooms of any cruise ship I have been on. The A/c in my cabin was poor at best 74-75, complained twice but never fixed. My kids room the ac worked well. The pools, if that’s what you can call them are ridiculous. Two of the smallest pools you will ever see on any cruise line- 5000 people two small tiny pools. You might as well call them cesspools. A joke. One pool was closed two days, yes someone pooped in the pool two days in a row. I can’t blame the cruise line, but whatever. The food in the dinning room is edible, but very forgettable, nothing special bland. The service was poor. I can’t blame the server though. Overworked, not enough staff, wrong food given out, bread sporadically given and drinks forget it. I walked out to the bar after the second day to get drinks for the table. Yes I would walk to the bar 2 to 3 times during dinner to get drinks. Never had to do that before. I actually felt bad for the guys making pizza, way overworked like sweatshop workers, people yelling at them because of long wait times. I tipped them 20.00 just because I felt bad for them. 9 day cruise 3 ports with short visit times 7am to 2, on two ports, and were late into both with no extension time. I hated the cruise director, but that is descretionary, I thought he was annoying at best. Just an FYI I purchased two drink packages 850+ 2 soda packages 100+ and two internet packages 175+ Good luck with your choice Read Less

Chose this cruise because it was out of NYC, no flights, it was a brand new ship and expected adequate good staffing and food, etc. We were disappointed. Embarkation was fine, we drove to the port and parked at the port, and were boarded quickly because our cousins are platinum level carnival cruisers. The room was a nice inside cabin, ample room in bathroom and room, with limited shelve space for two. The steward, Arturo was great. The brand new ship still had backups and broken sink drains in the bathroom. The adult pool has been changed to an everyone pool, and the plethora of kids were quite unruly in the pools. They also commandeered the hot tubs. There were constant occurrences of chair hogging, with people claiming chairs and not returning for well over 3-4 hours. They need to police this better. The pool was also dirty on the bottom. Lunch presented with poor choices as regards healthy options. Roasted chicken only appeared once, most dishes were saucy, spicy and breaded. Breakfast was OK. No lox on the buffet. I need to emphasize that I did not go on vacation to stand on lines for the breakfast, lunch, guys burgers, pizza, tacos, the comedy clubs, etc. I am on vacation. The waiter, Roderick, was excellent. Food was mediocre at best. I guess food is an easy way to cut quality and save money. so charge a little more and upgrade the quality of the menus.. The stops were not very good. Very short in port times. Turks was mobbed with two ships in, San Juan empty with only one ship in, and Amber Cove basically a private island stop.. Overall, I would not recommend carnival. It might be good for the kids and families as the water park, Dr Suess themed looked good. There were only two good bands/entertainment. The 3 strings and the mambo band in Havana. The others all were off key, etc. Read Less

We chose this cruise because we wanted a ship that would work for a 4 year old and a 1 1/2 year old. First off embarkation was complete chaos. Once we were on the ship we had to deal with the new type of elevators. I had to wait 40 minutes till I could get on an elevator. The only reason I didn't take the stairs is because I had a stroller. The buffet lunch and breakfast were terrible. We had just been on the Anthem of the Seas twice and their buffet was 100 times better. On the Horizon there was no variety at any of the stations they all had the same items. To get Pizza, Burritos, Deli or Hamburgers you had to wait at least a half hour in line. The food in the dining room was just OK with the escargot being the worst I have ever had. On the plus side we had a balcony cabin and it was nice enough and the room steward was great. But the long lines, fighting for seats on the deck and the horrible food buffets was enough for us to not recommend this ship. One more thing they say is that it is wonderful for families but then have no little splash place for someone who is not toilet trained. Even the Anthem had a delegated splash spot for a little one. I have been a long time cruiser on Carnival and many other cruise ships. I have always enjoyed myself on each of the cruises booked.I have always found trips relaxing and a great value This time I CANNOT say that I had a satisfying time. The Horizon was overcrowded to the point of being very uncomfortable. The Lido and Serenity decks pools and hot tubs were ridiculously crowded and one was not functioning properly. The highlight of the ship, the sky ride, was not operating at all.The Food on the lunch buffet was not appetizing at all. After awhile, i found myself just walking away because lines were way too long. The pizza was the only option that was reasonable in wait time depending on the time of day. The shows did not live up to my expectations of Carnival's entertainment. I am fully aware that this is a vacation business but Carnival used to have a way of making vacationers feel that their satisfying experience was the first priority. They used to have an art of presentong food in an awesome way. However now they have no problem presenting upcharges ,overpriced excursions and overcrowded facilities. On a positive note our servers in the Meridian Restaurant were outstanding and our cabin was kept clean by hard working staff who earn every penny. When I called after disembarking they said SORRY.Well I am sorry... My Family and friends will be looking to other cruise lines for future bookings. Read Less

Upon embarkation and going into the cabin, my son found a huge smashed cockroach on one of the magazines in the room. Housekeeping was notified. Guest Services were overwhelmed. They never, ever answered the phone, no matter the time of day. The phone kept on ringing, no pickup by anyone. Excessively long lines and waits of over half an hour to speak to someone at Guest Services. Ditto the bizarre elevator system, the use of which was not explained, leaving disabled people, children, non English speakers, and those adults not technologically savvy standing in front of elevator cars for excessive time periods just to get on, and then the car doesn’t stop on their floor! Food was mediocre at breakfast, the same thing all four days of the cruise. Lunch slightly better. Dinner was at least the highlight of the day. Kids all over the place, yelling and screaming and clogging up the pool, not to mention excessively long waits at the water slides. The bicycle around the ship was out of commission for the whole cruise. We were four adults and four children. The movie theatre cost us $88 just to see Jurassic Park. The candy shop is a rip off. The popcorn machine was out of commission, so we went into the candy store onboard. Four small sandwich size bags of gummy bears came to $46!!l On the outside they’d probably be about $10 total. My son accidentally left a medical device on board, and instead of trying to assist us in getting it at NYC, they put it in lost and found onboard and sent it to their facility in Miami to be shipped to us, in NYC, within 30 days!!! The Carnival agent, in Miami, didn't seem to be making an effort to Contact Carnival in NYC to put the medical device aside so we could pick it up in NYC. Read Less

My 2 sisters and I decided to take my mom on a cruise. We decide to get a nice suite. Not only was there no wheel chair elevators for disabled people, but the lines for the Buffet was insane! The line to get onto the boat took over 35 minutes due to rude people not allowing a disabled lady in a wheel chair go first. Then the 10th floor buffet was gross! Lines that took way over 45 minutes. Also to get to the buffet the floors around the pools were so slick and wet we couldn't chance one of us pushing my mother to fall! Someone is seriously going to get injured. As to the restaurants thankfully they were delicious. Liked the steak house very much. The one thing I had was a great time laughing. ONLY THING. Way too crowed. 5000 people on one ship. UM no. And to have no wheel chair elevator is not smart! And they don't just have where you push the floor you want to be on. Nope. They make you wait and advise when that elevator will be ready. Again by this time rude ignorant people jump in front of my mother in a wheelchair. Lastly being on a floor with a suite, we had our own bar and pool. Loved that. BUT.....the pool was only for us till 7pm. Then it was open to the entire boat. I didn't spend thousands of dollars for rude ignorant people to be allowed on our floor's pool! Oh and best part? There was a bachelor party on this floor. LOUD, RUDE, AND didn't want to go back to the suite pool as all the guys were drunk the entire time. Shocked no one kicked them back to their suite. Would I go back? Nope. For the amount of money I spent I could of went to Ireland. Waste of money. Don't do it. Read Less

A family member chose the cruise; we sail Carnival annually, but do not do so in the summer months and we have never sailed out of NY. Our family member was in Havana and were on the 10th Fl w/balcony. Neither of us understood what the Havana rooms meant until we got on board. It is essentially a private section of the boat for those peope with Havana rooms only. What a waste - that pool was never used - while the 2 small pools on 10 were overcrowded. the ship was new and beautiful. On this ship it would be easier to list what i did like instead of what i didn't- The rooms were nice slightly smaller, - j ust like everything else on board - SMALLER - the theatre 1/2 size, wasted space, lines winding around the ship to wait and see if you could get a seat 1/2 hour before showtime; 2 small pools for 4900 people and 1/2 the poolside chairs; very hard to find shade; a serenity deck to get away from all the kids with no way to cool off and wasted space;music blaring to suit only the NY guests - YUCH; did not seem to see many staff roaming and interacting like they "usually" do; lots of activities - always at the same time as dinner or another popular activity; no appropriate place to play bingo; and food - with lots of dining options; the food was good except in the dining room - no flavor and seemed like the meats were recycled. and lines everywhere! The social director was their 1 saving grace. too much $ spent on looks and electronics; so disappointed. In all fairness - Carnival seemed to try to appeal to the Generation Z crowd and in spite of Carnival's best attempts to appeal AND circumvent human nature - in spite of itsself, i have never seen such waste and selfish behavior from fellow passengers. i felt badly for the ship's staff at times. Seemed more like a party ship - the 'old' carnival image. Read Less

This was my 5th cruise, 3rd with Carnival and being this was a new ship, I had such high hopes. I was severely disappointed. Your time Dining was HORRIBLE. First night we didn’t eat at all. Took 30 mins to wait in line and then another 30 mins with a pager to eat. I have a special needs child who started to freak out so we just went back to cabin. Luckily the next day we had to pull the Autism card and got switched to a set dining time. I felt sorry for all those other people stuck with that dining plan. Norwegian knows how to do that so much better. Food court in Lido was so bad. Not enough seating. Food choices poor and weird. Nothing for kids unless you waited on a min 30 min line for pizza. The Pride was soooo much better. Overall food was nothing great AT ALL Room was clean but shouldn’t it be? The ship was brand new. I would say ship didn’t give the appearance of new though and I am used to crew being everywhere cleaning. Not on this boat. Overall I thought it was pretty dirty. Stewart was OK but not real friendly and forgettable. Crowded oh so crowded. People everywhere with not enough space to accommodate. I think they jammed as many cabins as they could without thought to activities for all these people. Thank God I got a balcony room for some elbow room Elevators were a nightmare. NIGHTMARE. New system implemented and it DOESN’T work. Staff were OK but not great. Not overly friendly like I’ve experienced on previous cruises. They seemed slow and unhappy. Some side notes not necessarily Carnivals fault but worth mentioning. Someone got ill or something on board causing us to lose one of our ports. I think they could have made it to the port had they sped up but why should they...a third day at sea so people could gamble and spend money. I don’t gamble and enjoy the ports so I was severely disappointed. Our consolation was 20%off a future cruise. Not a consolation if you ask me. I’ll never use it. Also worth mentioning that I wasn’t surprised to hear someone got ill as the boat was swarming with older senior citizens. Decrepit senior citizens. Some looked like they should have been in a hospital. I have never seen so many sickly people on a cruise ship in my life. I’m sorry but I don’t think a cruise is somewhere for sickly older people when there are no facilities close in the event of an emergency. This was the case on my cruise and because if 1 person needing medical attention and the boat having to turn around, over 4000 people were inconvenienced. Maybe I’m insensitive but that was not cool!!! People complain about certain cruise lines having too many kids well this one has way too many old people. All in all Carnival bombed with this new ship and I seriously doubt I will ever take my family on a cruise again because of this. Too crowded, too unpredictable with older senior citizens, and quality/cleanliness going downhill. Read Less

Guy’s burgers were gross, buffet was gross, restaurants were good but need to book days in advance for reservation. I had no food on my birthday. I ordered chocolate cake from room service that came 3 hours later and it was so bland I spit it out. They cancelled Grand Turk due to someone being sick and needing a helicopter escort, which I understand, but only 2 days of land and wayyyy too many days on the ocean. THE EXCURSIONS ARE A WASTE OF MONEY. Complete disappointment. By the time the “2 hour” excursion is over, which ends up being 5 because they’re so unorganized, it’s time to get back on the ship. Dominican republic was scariest experience. The people will force you to buy things and won’t leave you alone until you do! Couldnt relax on beach. People literally came up to me-poking me to buy things. Taxi driver wouldnt pick us up until 2. had to be back on ship by 3. and beach we were at was an hour away! nothing to do on ship but the pool which is unbelievably overcrowded. people on cruise are so rude- they’ll reserve beach chairs on ship by putting valuables on them just so strangers don’t sit by them! I never got to sit by pool. One day ONE chair out ot hundreds was open, but my boyfriend couldnt sit next to me. comedians are funny- that was only thing I enjoyed. Their “fun activities” are like hairy chest competitions. Real fun for a 19 year old girl. Do not go on a Carnival cruise. The Ports the cruise pulls up to are in the scum of the scum places. nice beaches are hours away. huts and slums around. In puerto rico we were where hurricane hit. not nice at all. Amber cove is surrounded by sketchy places and people. worst experience of my life!!!! Read Less

First off let me say that this was my 2nd of the bigger ships to cruise on. I should have listened to my gut and not bothered to get on this gigantic turd that is known as the Carnival Horizon. ALL YOU DO IS WAIT IN LINE FOR EVERYTHING ON THIS SHIP. That being said, allow me to digress and talk about the positives of this cruise. PROS---------- 1. Embarkation. This was a dream for me. My last cruise on the Pride I went ahead and purchased Faster to the Fun for embarkation. I was upset at first that FTTF was not offered for the Horizon out of NYC. I am so glad that it wasn't. It would have been kind of a waste of money. It was the fastest I have ever got on a cruise ship from the moment I walked into the cruise terminal until I was on the Lido deck. A mere 15 minutes. They had their ducks in a row finally. Really nice job Carnival 2. Cabin and the cabin steward where nice and ready very fast. Our steward did a very nice job and we gave him an extra bump of a tip. Cabin was clean and the temperature was perfect. 3. Entertainment. By far the best entertainment we have had on a cruise. The singing was top notch through out all entertainment venues. I have Zero complaints about the entertainment. 4. Cruise Director. Mike Pack was one of the best CD we have had. He knows his job and how to entertain. He was given the unenviable task of making up for a lost port and he and his staff did a wonderful job. 5. Family Harbor Lounge. This is a nice little addition to a Carnival ship. Nice place to get a quick snack or a coffee. CONS----------------------------- 1. 20% off a future cruise for a missed port. We had an unfortunate medical emergency on board and were forced to turn back closer to land. This caused us to miss Grand Turk. Why? I guess they didn't want to burn more fuel and speed up to still get us there. I just got this feeling that it was a cost saving move by Carnival to just skip this port instead of trying to make it. I thought that the compensation was cheesy and a slap in the face. I am not blaming the poor person who got ill by any means. If it was me or one of my family I would want to get the best medical treatment required, but Carnival thought is was no big deal. 20% off of a future cruise I will never take isn't much of a compensation. 2. Waiting in line for EVERYTHING. I understand that a big ship also means a large amount of people, but I swear carnival didn't take this fact into account when designing this ship. Poor design led to many lines when there didn't need to be. As popular as the burgers are at Guy's, wouldn't a second location be better? Oh no we had to add an upcharge sea food shack that absolutely no one ate at. Food places seemed to close at odd times. I think this is another way to get you to pay for the upcharge room service. 3. Treated like crap. I felt on many occasions that if you weren't constantly spending money, the staff didn't want to be bothered with you. We had a drink menu shoved in our face almost constantly. They were all about the up sale on this cruise. If you were just looking in the shops, those folks avoided us like the plague. I asked about the price of a watch and was basically told that it was quite expensive. 4. THE BIG SUCK------I attempted to purchase the Pixels photo package that was being offered before my cruise. I took the time to crunch the numbers and figured out that with as many photos my wife purchases, it would be prudent to purchase it. The day I go to buy it from Carnival's website, it is mysteriously gone. I called Carnival and inquired about it and they told me there was nothing that could be done. If it wasn't there anymore, then they could do nothing. This PISSED my wife off. So after several days at sea, my wife had amassed around 30 photos. She went to Pixels and asked if they could do anything for us. They said no. She was told to pick out only her absolute favorites if she couldn't afford all of them. She made a stop at guest services and they were able to secure a 10% off of pictures. Well, she was able to cut the amount down to 12 of her favorites and went back to purchase these 12. They didn't want to give her the measly 10% off because she wasn't willing to buy them all. After we put our foot down they gave us the discount but before we could tell them how we would want the pictures, they just saved them to my phone. If you can avoid it, DO NOT USE PIXELS. Treated like crap and they seem very doggy. 5. UPGRADED. We were originally signed up for a family harbor interior cabin. Got a call from Carnival that they had received quite a few noise complaints from the past guests in that cabin and wanted to upgrade me to a balcony at no cost to us. Of course I said yes only if we still got all the perks from being in family harbor. The person at carnival said yes we could still have access to the family harbor lounge and the free night of night owls for the kids. The problem was they put us on deck 11. It was basically right next to Lido. Talk about noise....holy crap it was loud. Didn't complain, but was definitely bothered by the extreme noise most of the time until after midnight. SO SO------------------------------------------- 1. We had one horrible waiter at dinner and one awesome waiter. One pushed the drinks on us constantly. They were ok. Forgot my shrimp cocktail one night, but overall, what you would expect. 2. Dr. Seuss Breakfast. Signed up for that as soon as we got onboard. Went to the breakfast and they didn't have our reservation. Luckily I brought the receipt with us and showed them we had indeed paid for it. We were eating our breakfast and the time came to go get our picture with the Cat in the Hat, so we got up like all the other families do and got in another line. While we were getting our photo, they cleaned up our table. We had just gotten our meal. The wait staff apologized and brought us a new breakfast, but when we got up to get the photo with Sam I Am another waiter tried to clean up our table and I yelled "for the love of god don't take my breakfast away again". That waiter ran for the hills and we were indeed allowed to eat. Basically they were just rushed to put as many people through this up charged breakfast as possible and didn't really care if you were done or not. 3. Debarkation was ok. Long lines to get through customs, but that wasn't unexpected. I am done with Carnival. I used to defend them to everyone who said that Carnival was a low rent cruise line. I had Carnival's back every time, but no more. I did not enjoy the Horizon and will NEVER cruise a big ship again. Read Less

disembarked 5/28/2018 in NY 1st the positives, our balcony stateroom was clean & stewart kept it clean thoughout our cruise, the food was good and wait staff were good, The temperature on the majority of the boat was extremely hot my 8 year old (special needs) and I were sick from the temperature on the boat,(not sea sick very calm seas) we had to move our table for dinner 3 times, our stateroom was hot, stuffy and humid our cloths were damp in the closet from the humidity. Trying to sleep we were dripping with sweat. complained to guest services (that don't answer the phone) on deck 3 you must wait on long lines every time. finally 3 days later a lady was sent up to take a temperature reading of 75 degrees, I was told "she would tell someone" that was it never heard back from them. the movie theatre was dirty and gross. Camp ocean for kids seemed like a great idea however they have no way to contact you, Oh wait they do they can give you a cell phone (they won't tell you that) while at guest services trying to get a wine opener for 3 days they told us to ask camp ocean for a cell phone, I went back to camp ocean and asked for a cell phone they refused to give me one. The water park is great in theory, an employee stands on the top entrance and send people down the slide that employee cannot see the exit of the tubes and relies on another employee who always seemed to be busy talking to a 3rd employee who was on break. very slow process. The arcade was ok (small) it was about 90 degrees inside. The dodgeball, volleyball and basketball tournaments are only for 18+, non for younger kids, all of the attractions are under staffed very long waits sometimes well over an hour. On many occasions a large party travel the elevators together and you must travel/wait for the same elevator ( no other option) so you must wait for a second elevator but only after the 1st elevator already left your deck. We walked to every location on the boat the wait for an elevator was to long. My son developed some sort of infection in his throat while on board, while I developed some sort of infection on my foot. today is 5/29/2018. I will not sail with them again, ill stick with royal caribbean from now on. Read Less

This was the 3rd cruise trip my sisters and I had with Carnival. We were very excited about our trip to Europe and be on Carnival's new ship Horizon. The ship has a new elevator system. The high tech system was designed to increase efficiency and reduce wait time. We didn't notice any improvement in wait time. Most of the time, we were tire of waiting and took the stairs instead. The 2nd night was the formal night. To get to the dining room, there's a new system. First, we went to a lounge on a different floor to register. We were given a pager. The pager would go off when our table was ready. We waited at the lounge along with many others. And we waited... After 2 hours, one of my sisters decided not to wait any longer and we walked straight to the dining room. We were taken to a table in 2 minutes. As we sat down, we noticed many empty tables around us. We were so hungry that we literally inhaled the food. By the time we ordered the desserts, the server said they were closing soon and hurried us to order. It was the most terrible dining experience we ever had on ships and on land. Two days later, we tried the dining room, again. There was no wait time and the dining room was half full. Other than the ox tongue appetizer, everything else was dry and rubbery. We were discouraged completely and did not go back to the dining room again. Now, let’s talk about Lido. The breakfast choices were exactly the same every single morning. We didn’t want to have breakfast there after the 4th day. We rather ate the cold pizza we saved from the night before. We ordered one breakfast from room service but the selections were limited to bakery and fruits only. Supper at Lindo reminded me of my years living in the university dormitory. The desserts at Lindo were cakes and nothing but cakes. I took one piece one night. It wasn’t good, so I left 2/3 on the plate. I tried a different cake two nights later. This time, I managed to finish half. The positive food experience we had was the night at the Japanese restaurant having Teppanyaki. The food was nice and the price was reasonable. We had sushi in the same restaurant on another night and it was pretty good, too. The servers were courteous and helpful. We were pleased with the dinner on both nights. There were many brand name shops on the ship; more than the average cruise ships we had been to. The little gift shop was about the size of my closet at home. We didn’t buy anything on the ship this time. The stateroom we were in was reasonably clean and comfortable. After all, Horizon is a new ship. The bathroom had an unpleasant odor when we got there. We did our own cleaning with Lysol and rubbing alcohol we brought along on the trip. It was okay for the rest of the staying. There was something about the corridor in the cabin section I want to mention. The floor was uneven. It dropped and raised unexpectedly. We walked gingerly to avoid tripping and falling. The overall experience on the ship was fine. If it’s not because of the disastrous food experience and the poor dining room management, I would have given it 4 starts instead of 2. Carnival Horizon is a very nice ship. I hope my review will help Carnival to make the necessary improvements for the future vacationers. Read Less

It was the ships maiden European cruise, so you would think they would put some European food on no chance it was like something you clean out the bottom of a parrots cage worst food on any cruise we have done and to date that is 15, if you like your food hot then this cruise is not for you Luke warm is the best you will get if you’re lucky. I spoke to many people asking if this was typical American food and they said no way. The entertainment was second class most of it was rubbish with the exception of a few,on more than one occasion a lot of the audiance got up and walked out. It says it all when the so called comedian was the only one laughing at his own jokes. Everything you purchase on board has gratuities added and tax which cannot be claimed back. I thought there were no pirates on the sees any more I was wrong, if they had the scull and crossbones as there flag it would suit the ship. Read Less
