I have been on 3 Carnival Cruises and my wife has been on nearly 10 of them and this was by far the worst experience I have ever had on a cruise. First, I realize that we cannot control the weather but as another person included in their review, our itinerary remained unchanged until late Sunday evening when we were informed we would be going to Key West instead of Princess Kay. No big deal, but then we spent the rest of the cruise on the damn boat. No other ports that we could go to so we spent 4 1/2 days at sea of a five day cruise. Secondly, I will echo another reviewer in stating that the Captain continuously placed us at risk by getting too close to the hurricane. Although the status of our location said we were safely away from the hurricane, there were more than two instances in which the ship was sailed into the green area of the hurricane. On Tuesday morning at 2:00, the ship was rocking so bad from the waves that it literally caused my wife and I to roll in the bed. It kept us up all night, not to mention the kids that were in the room next to us. Sounded like construction going on all night long. Went to guest services, they apologized and said if it continued to let them know. Well guess what, it continued. We called guest services and were placed on hold waiting for someone to answer. And this was at 1:00 in the morning. Still nothing done. There was a strong sewage smell that stayed the entire cruise. We could smell it in our bathroom, down the hallway, on the Lido deck, practically everywhere. The explanation we received was that it was "Sea Water". Sorry, but the only place it smelled like that was actually on the boat. So back to the rough waters of travel. On Wednesday (last day at sea), the waters were so rough that dinnerware was sliding on the tables, deck chairs were sliding on the decks, and chips fell over in the casino at the table I was at. But we were continuously reassured that all was safe. Each day, the Cruise Director and Captain held a Q&A session regarding the status of the cruise and the hurricane. Once we were informed that we would not be going to any other ports after Key West, we were told they were going to add a lot of entertainment on the ship to make up for the missed time from our destinations. If you consider adding trivia games and back/arthritis seminars as added entertainment, then you have different expectations of what entertainment is than I do. One of my biggest complaints of all is the fact that while we were at sea, they never made an announcement or sent a letter to our stateroom to inform us that they provided all the passengers free WiFi so that we could contact our families to let them know we were alright. We found that out from other guests who were at our dining table. Piling on with some of the other reviews on here, we arrived to Port Canaveral and was sent on a charter bus for two hours to the Jacksonville Port after being told multiple times that they were going to extend the cruise until the Port was open. In conclusion, I called Carnival Customer Service today and inquired what they were going to do to satisfy our complaint. I was informed that when we booked, we signed a disclosure that stated Carnival reserves the right to alter the cruise itinerary at their discretion and would not be offering any reimbursement of credit for this cruise. Ultimately, Carnival said screw all of the unhappy guests with the decisions that they made and we are going to keep your money for a cruise that did not reach one destination on the itinerary (Key West was not on the original itinerary), offered nothing more than an apology for the inconvenience, and couldn't care less about the members who have CHOSEN their cruise line. We were planning on taking a family cruise for our family's 10 year anniversary next year but you can rest assured it won't be with Carnival Cruise. Their Customer Service can now be ranked up there with AT&T and Comcast. Read Less

If my room had been then temperature they documented, we wouldn’t have had any Customer service (ext 70530)was worse.... and really rude. WILL NEVER GET ON THE VALOR AGAIN, not for sure we will cruise on Carnival again after our November cruise(we can’t get out of or money back) Most everyone was complaining about warm rooms and nothing was being done to fix it. The show we gave a C- at best. The bar staff and serving staff was all really nice. Rajesh and Franklin at the Sefoid Shack were awesome..... tried so hard to make our days better. Food was really good and a very reasonable price. Our last night we had the sweetest and most helpful hostess named Jovel, take such good care of us. Seated us in the best area with a wonder wait staff. We had Lomil take great care of us and made sure our last night on the ship was a good one! Read Less

Of variety, I like the crusero, but in this one I am disenchanted, because I saw things on board that I did not like, first long line to be able to eat, in the buffet, second cockroach we found inside the dishes and rates, the air in the rooms they turned it off at night, and it was very hot, the floor of the crusero is bad, you can stumble and fall, I saw it happened to a lady, you must have the video and see that, there are no good hygiene, we went to the restaurant a la carte and the water had very disgusting white argo, that made me go hungry, in a nutshell they should be more careful, I think there are very few personal paravtantas people, the meals need children, it is not that it is exacerbating, but There are many lack of children, sometimes the dishes and glass are dirty as they washed it, the rooms smell bad sometimes, the drink is very restricted, many pockets in that crusero, caramba put more varieties of juices ,,,, ,, Is it so expensive ??????? by God pure lemonade ,,, ,,, and if they put different it is necessary to go looking for it because it is a minute and it is over, ,,,, in short I am very disenchanted ,,,,,, it was better to stay on land ,,,, they must change, ,,,, and so we will be happier on board !!!!! This wasn’t our first cruise experience, but will for sure become the last on Carnival Imagination. The stinkiest ship ever. The nauseating blend of urine, bleach, old furniture, filthy carpets was so horrendous that I had to hold my breath when we first stepped on board. I should have left right then. We stayed on deck 7, right by the guest services. The room and bathroom were so stinky that I poured half a bottle of my perfume just to tolerate it. The filth and dirt are everywhere. The dirty baseboards, the stains on the carpets, dust and dirt in the buffet area was so bad that I would rather skip a meal that experience it. We were traveling with a toddler and it was a challenge for me to let him run freely - he would pick up trash, dirt, dust. In addition, in 4 days they didn’t change our bed a single time. We were provided with pillowcases with stains and I noticed them again on the last day packing. I felt so sorry for the crew and staff members who work on this ship. They are doing their best to provide great customer service. Benjamin and Jacki are always fun and cheerful. Kuddos to them! The choice of food in the buffet was very limited and mostly unhealthy. The dining menu was rather simple; there was not a single meal that I would say was exceptional. It was ok, mediocre, average. In fact, on the last day of cruising I got a severe food poisoning from a burrito that I had for lunch from the buffet. I spent all night vomiting and was so happy that this “vacation” was over. Never again I would go on Imagination. This ship should go for a full renovation because it is unacceptable for a company to treat their clients with such accommodation. Read Less

$200 million dollar renovation? Let's start with my room. We had a grand sweet, room 7295. We had dirty water from someone else's room leaking into our bathroom. It was so bad that mold was growing. And not sure exactly what we were walking in, shower water, toilet water? It took 6 days and 5 visits to be fixed, and we had to be out of our room for 5 hours while thru fixed it. We had to keep towels on the floor just to keep our feet dry! On day 7 or toilet stopped flushing, and they had to send a plumber to fix that, Day 8, the last day was problem free thou! Lol. The formal dining room is more like a diner than a formal dining room, allot of booths, which was REALLY CLASSY on formal night! I would say the food is almost as good as our local diner as well! Expect to wait a long time at all other places to eat, long lines, no organization. After you get your food, good luck finding a seat. The pool is very small and over crowded. The slides are nothing special either. People smoke wherever they want, and nobody enforces anything. Complained to security, but they did nothing! There were people even smoking in the kids water park by the slides. People were taking their kid's out of the water because they were doing nothing about it. We couldn't sit on our balcony due to people smoking marijuana, the smell was so bad my 12yr old daughter was getting sick. Guest service said all they can do is send out a letter with the smoking policy! So nothing was done about that either. I personally don't recommend this cruise, I had to get a claim number with carnival for compensation, we will see how that goes, hopefully better then the cruise! At least they added allot of rooms and made the common areas smaller! There are not allot of shows, except for shoes about shopping on board, and comedy shows everyday, which are not kid friendly, even if they say it is, it was very inappropriate. The casino is nice, but you have to walk straight through the smoking area to get anywhere, as it is the only deck you can walk from one end to the other. Not a good set up if you have kids. The spa was nice, my wife had 2 services, and we did a couples massage. The massage was relaxing, but I have had allot better around my house for less money. I would not take this cruise for a family vacation ever again. It was easy getting on the boat, getting off was another story, we had priority with the suite, but nobody knew where to send us, we're we're moved 3 times to different floors carrying 6 suitcases! And all I wanted to do is get off the boat! Kid's club was a joke for my 12 year old daughter as well. All they did was sit in the room and play a video game, or play on their phones. She wanted out in less then an hour! Getting off the boat in ports took a long time as well. Carnival had people stopping everyone on the ramp to get off so they could take pictures. All this did was hold everyone up! Take pictures on the side out of the way! It took us 1.5hrs to get off st the first port, and about an hour st the others. San Juan was nice for shopping, but don't be out after dark, we're didn't feel safe. St. Thomas was beautiful. Grand Turk was our favorite, we went snorkeling, and then relaxed on the beach, wish we had more time there. I would not recommend carnival, we mighty have tried the cruise line again if the company made right by us for all the problems we had, but they did not! Don't waste your breath complaining to the company, they don't care, and already have your money! Find another cruise line! I would add photos, but it won't let me on my phone for some reason. I choose Carnival because I wanted to experience a different cruise line. Oh my goodness, have you ever been on a cruise where there was hardly any food? Unbelievable! You have to pay for everything! French fries ($2), no free chicken wings ($5), restaurants were packed (the 3 free restuarants) and they were opened with limited time so with the long lines, good luck if you make it to the front before some crew member cuts you off and tells you that they are closed. Stood on a line for an hour to get a pre-made sandwich. Was so upset, decided to order in to room one night for dinner. Keep in mind that I am paying for my dinner. It took 2 and a half hours for the food to be delivered to the room. Speaking with the service desk was difficult. They answered the phone as if we're a bother. Nothing about this cruise was good, I am not one to bash anyone with bad reviews but please save your money and use another cruise line. For first time cruisers, you would be utterly disappointed if you go on this ship. I love cruises and I am glad I cruised on a different line before I went on carnival sunrise because if it was the other way around, I would never cruise again. I have a 2 yr old and I tried to take him into the pool. I was told that he could not go into the pool with swimming diapers and that he needed to be potty trained. No problem. So I tried to take him to the kiddie section for him to run around (no swimming), same thing. Horrible. Kiddie camp had 1 crew member with over 15 kids under 3 in one room with no toys, just sitting on the floor. Really? The entire ship had a lack of crew (long lines of people waiting) only to be serviced by a few crew members. How about the beverage package? Hmmm 5 oz. Of soda and the rest is ice. You will have to wait 5 mins to order another soda. Craving seafood? Better prepare yourself to pay your own tab because it ain't free my friend. I can go on and on but I think I have made my point. PS. When the ship came back to NY and docked, I saw oil floating in the water . . . Like a leakage. They are probably doing more harm than good seeing how they're cutting corners. I hope someone looks into this because we need to look out for our City. Read Less

The icecream here sucks, and what can I say about milkshakes, they are $4.95 and it is the worse I ever tried before, the girl from the musical coffe is not nice at all neither the people from the bars. Nicest people in the ship are the ones you dont have to pay the 18% mandatory tip. Forget about a shrimp in the buffet they just have 3 or 4 types of food options...and no juices at all just synthetic limonade and iced tea, 2% milk and american coffe oh and water. If you take a bottle of wine with u make sure you have something to open it cause they charge $15 fee.. this ship is a joke. If I coul give no star I would. Read Less

This was a long awaited family cruise. We upgraded to a spa balcony cabin and was looking forward to a week of relaxation and time with family. I am a long time cruise traveler. This was the worst experience! The worst week! My thoughts were that I wish I could have departed the ship but of course you are trapped on it until you return to port. Our cabin was a nightmare! Wet floors on the first day. A ship worker coming into the room over and over to tell us their had been a bad leak. They set up two giant blowers in the tiny cabin and we were stuck with the noise and trying to climb over the blowers when we wanted to move about or go in and out. In the bathroom I scalded my hands as the sink only had scalding water. They had to repair that twice during the trip. Every night at around midnight a terrible loud mechanical sound that shook our cabin would wake us up. I spent most of my cruise either on the phone with or at the guest services desk. Every night the same. Call..and be told we had to wait while they sent someone to check out the noise. So we were stuck waiting up each night while the person they sent to 20 to 45 minutes to come to our cabin and the spend time trying to explain the noise as by then it would stop. The noise usually lasted about 10 to 15 minutes. I finally decided to record it and the ships head of house keeping heard my recordings and let guest services know it was loud but kept insisting they had no idea what it could be. At first we thought it might be a one time deal but this happened all week long each night and our peaceful vacation of rest was turned into involuntarily Up All Night. Guest services could have cared less! We were told nothing they could do. It was also disturbing that all 3 showers in the Spa were not working properly. And one of the main steam rooms did not work properly the entire cruise. And though Carnival knew it we didn't find out until Thursday into the cruise that we were right next door to a maintenance room on the side away from the way we leave our cabin. We found out because of added disturbing noise and maintenance workers going in and out of that room and slamming the door over and over. We paid close to 3k for the trip. After I found a member of housekeeping in the hall at midnight and asked if he could come listen to the noise as it was happening and he told guest services on the phone how awful it was they issued me and my cabin mate a $75 credit each. $150 credit against 3k? And after this credit they started working non stop in the room next to us. We were woken to hammering and metal falling constantly on the metal floor. Drilling. Talking. The door slamming as they went in and out constantly. We just wanted to get off of the ship. This long awaited trip had been ruined and outings with family were missed due to lack of sleep. They woke us up hammering on Friday morning around 6am. The noise went on all day long as I was too exhausted to leave the cabin. I was trying hard to get just a little sleep. But the banging was non stop and I called guest services once again and asked if they knew about the non stop noise? They said they did. They told me mechanical issues were being repaired and they did not know how long it would go on. I went to Guest services and asked them why they has forced us to be up each night trying to explain to them the noise when they had known all along the source of the problem and why they hadn't just moved us to another cabin. I was told the cruise was fully booked. I asked for a refund for our trip and was told the best they could do was another $150 totaling $300 against our almost 3k week fee. And that the work would continue in the maintenance cabin. And it did. All day until my I finally went into the hall and asked two of the maintenance workers if they knew how long they would be working? I asked if they had any idea the noise that was in our cabin. It was so terrible. I wish I could load my videos so everyone could really see how little Carnival cared about us as guests. I think my lack of sleep and the fact that I was holding my head from a massive headache was visible to the workers. Though guest services didn't care these guys went in the room and talked to their supervisor and came out and told me they were going to stop for the night. It was just after 8pm. That was on a Friday. The one day the Spa jacuzzi was roped off and out of order for use. It was also the only night of the 7 day cruise that we did not get woken up to the horrible noise that was so bad it shook our cabin. They once again started the banging at 6 am the next morning. I know guest services knew the whole time what the problem was. For them to keep us up each night after being woken up from the noise and making us wait for people to come to the cabin and then doing the non stop maintenance once they gave us the small credit was horrible. I would have given this cruise a zero if that was an option. Getting back home with a letter from onboardi with a multiple list of cabin complaints and calling the main office really did nothing to much to make me feel any better. Customer service on that end was horrible too. And dont depend on Chase credit card company to help you if you want to make the dispute with them. Apparently no matter what your experience and I'm sure Carnival knows this is that if you complete the entire cruise no matter what your issues they consider it a valid charge and will not help you either. So unless you are willing to jump ship in the middle of the ocean or fly back from a different country Chase credit card will do nothing. It's a shame our trip was so disturbing and disappointing. I sincerely hope this experience does not happen to anyone else or that Carnival takes responsibility when it's due to their faulty equipment when someones entire vacation turns out to be a nightmare and the best part about the experience is when you can get OFF the ship! Since we were so occupied with this situation all cruise we really didn't do much else. We went to the casino which seemed a little cramped. Not much room to move around in. The food in the main dining room was very good. Lots of choices. But the wait staff seemed preoccupied this trip and in too much of a hurry. Sometimes it took a long time to get food and extras we asked for such as ice tea or lemon etc. The main attraction and one of the reasons we booked the cruise was the Sky Ride on the Vista. But it was down the entire cruise Out Of Service. The water slide was fun the two times I went down and the pool area seemed nice though we never got in it. Read Less

So many problems with this cruise most related to the cabin. We were accommodating at first even with the carpet being wet and blowers running to dry it out upon arrival....not exactly a great first impression. Had we only known that was only the beginning of the problems with this stateroom. Anyone considering cruising on the Carnival Vista should be aware this ship has multiple problems associated with the spa so if that's one of the "features" that attracted you to this cruise you will be well beyond disappointed. Along with the sky ride being broken the entire trip, the aroma therapy room also being broken the entire trip body sprayers in Cloud nine were also inoperable. The food and entertainment were great but if you value your sleep, rest and relaxation DO NOT book anything remotely close to cabin 11236. I'm currently awaiting to debark tomorrow and that will truly be the highlight of this trip. See cabin review below Read Less

We wanted to take my daughter and some of her friends on a short cruise as a graduation present. We chose Carnival because it was an economical way to travel. Meals and entertainment were included in the price of the trip. Plus, it departed from Charleston SC, which is close to our house, so we didn’t have to pay for airfare. We have happily and satisfactorily cruised many times with Royal Caribbean, Windstar, Regent and Seabourn. If you are looking for an enjoyable and relaxing vacation don’t take a Carnival cruise. Carnival Sunshine has a spring break meets beer commercial atmosphere. The staff is overworked trying to clean up after all the obnoxious drunk cruisers. We were the 1st tender to beautiful Half Moon Cay and the beach was stunningly beautiful! We were the last tender off the Island and as we retraced our steps back to the tender the beach was literally trashed. I wish I had taken a picture. It was as if somebody took a dumpster filled with beer cans and empty drinking cups and scattered them on the beach! This is not an exaggeration. We ended up paying extra and eating in their specialty restaurants (very good) every night because the dining room was average and stressful. We booked spa appointments (very good) to avoid the crowds in the main areas. Thankfully our room was big and had a triple long balcony so we had peace there. Check in and check out was shockingly easy and organized. Carnival Sunshine is like a floating raunchy dirty hotel with a seedy nightclub and a crappy all you can eat buffet attached. If that is what you are looking for in a vacation then Carnival Sunshine is for you. NEVER AGAIN! Read Less

9 out of 10 hand sanitizers are empty. Cabin is HOT! I have 2 fans that I brought on board and wouldn’t have made it without them. The two cabins next to mine received room credits because their rooms were so hot. Food: it is without a doubt the worst food ever. I’m you like bland carbs that taste less me cardboard then this cruise is for you. Only decent food is Guys Burgers. Nightly dining room meals are horrible. Food arrives cold and has no taste. Even the fried Shrimp was bad! Breakfast is no different.cold pancakes, waffles and lets not forget the hair in the hash brown! If you are planning on gambling know that the casino is full of smokers! It’s horrible just having to pass by it. This is not my first cruise. This is a 7 day cruise and when compared to Princess cruise that I was in for the same amount of time, there’s nothing in common other than they are both floating in water. I’ve been told that Princess and Carnival are owned by the same company and it’s very hard to believe. This Carnival cruise has been like a cruise for the poverty stricken compared to the Princess Cruise that was definitely and huge step up. Oh and let me not forget to mention the sewer smell! It’s terrible! Our cabin is on the second floor and the smell has continually been present in the hallway. They were busy trying to clean wet carpet which that I suspect was toilet overflow! My suggestion is save yourself the money and try a different vacation. Read Less

This message is to warn anyone planning on having a Carnival cruise wedding to NOT DO IT! If it weren’t for my family and friends the entire memory would be a disaster! I planned a carnival cruise wedding on the sensation on July 30,2019. Upon deciding that I would have the wedding with Carnival I submitted all my documents necessary so that the wedding planner on board would be informed of all the details I requested. I paid for the Carnival Classic Platinum package. I had 12 cabins booked full of guests in addition to the suite I paid for. Upon arriving on the ship July 29th, I was told that I’d meet with my wedding planner Victoria right away.. that didn’t happen. I sought her out for the first hour that I arrived and she was not available. She finally reached out to me to let me know that we would meet later in the evening to discuss the wedding details. We met and she seemed friendly, I told her that I wanted to start the ceremony with a bible reading from my brother and proceed with the wedding by the captain. She agreed. I paid for a DJ and requested a blend of music. She agreed. I was told everything would be punctual and you can imagine it wasn’t. The day of the wedding comes and it was set to begin at 2pm. I waited outside the lounge for 20 minutes because the LOUNGE WAS NOT SET UP by her nor the staff responsible. (I have the entire wedding recorded with time stamps in case anyone on Carnival wants to fight me on this). The ceremony begins .. guess what? My brother isn’t able to start the ceremony with the Bible reading. There was no order after the ceremony ended and I walked out, the wedding planner asked if I wanted my brother to do the reading. I said yes so I walk back down the aisle and then leave. Already chaotic and awkward but I deal with it. I was told to stand outside to be reintroduced.. the bar should have been opened for my guests by 2:30 being that I paid for a full hour of open bar. It was 3 pm I was waiting outside to be introduced and the bartender with the most disgusting attitude refused to serve my guests drinks. I also had “specialty” drinks that came with the package she also refused to make them. Her attitude was horrible and mortifying. Again, I didn’t want to ruin my moment so I just rolled with the punches. During the reception we had the cake cutting ceremony. The staff serving us did not provide my guests with cake! They had to cut pieces for themselves!! We also had leftover cake from the reception, my wedding planner said they would deliver the leftovers to my cabin.. I never received that either. The DJ, that I paid extra for played nothing of a mix I requested. Possibly a total of 3 songs at a low volume nonetheless. Although they ran late, they did not hesitate to end the reception at 3:30 on the dot. To the point that I requested one last drink and the bartender slammed the door in my face. I wish I knew her name because I truly would personally send her a note of what a horrible person she is. So I lost out on time at my reception for not being introduced until 3 and can’t even get an extra drink although we were robbed of 30 minutes.. nice right? An experience you paid for! At the end of the reception I left to take pictures. My cousin who was helpful throughout the wedding planning and brought souvenirs and extra decor told me that The wedding planner also was nasty and demanded that She clear everything off the table and tell all the guest to leave. She said these words" you need to get everything off this table and clear out your guest out of this room right now". I’m beyond distraught with the treatment of carnival and its staff they ruined a moment and day I’ll never get back. Not to mention spending $10,000. I paid for a service and expected to receive instead got treated as an inconvenience. In addition, no one on the ship is willing to accommodate your complaints or even care to hear you out. Carnival should be embarrassed at their service or lack their of. Read Less

The public facilities were at minimal use, the dryers were broken and washers half washed the clothes. Pool areas were congested, maybe consider an adult only pool area. Food selections were always the same in the buffet area. Debarkation was very very slow and not very organized. Not very pleased with this cruise. This was my 6th cruise, hope things get better. I chose this cruise because I had a pleasant experience with Carnival 2 years ago on the Carnival Liberty. I should have chosen another cruise line, the first trip seemed to be a one-off lucky good time. SHIP CONDITION: The sunshine is dirty, tired, and cabins DO smell as reported in other reviews. The porter entered our room without permission, and with the DND tag hanging on the door on the first night of the trip. My 16 year old and I were both horrified. There was no explanation given for the mistake. When we boarded the ship and entered our cabin it smelled like foul body odor, carpets were stained, the bathroom was dirty. We thought it would be nice/special because I paid extra for the “Cloud 9 Spa Balcony Cabin”. Clearly a huge waste if money! I was also told by Carnival’s Customer Service when I booked the room that ALL Spa services were included with the cost of the cabin... Not true. Anything to make a sale I suppose, or horrible training of Carnival staff. POOLS: The 3 so called pools are tiny, dirty, and don’t adequately serve the number of passengers (approx 5,000). One of which is the waterslide landing pool, which is considered a “swimming pool” and advertised as such. We did not use any pool on-board the ship due to filthy conditions. Deck floors were sticky and filthy, all around gross environment. PORT CONDITIONS: The Charleston port was awful, like a state fair pole barn. Hot, foul smelling, and we were herded like cattle despite purchasing “Faster to the Fun”. Upon arrival it was awful, and departure was even worse. Employees were rude and acted as if we were not welcome. A shame because Charleston is beautiful... Apparently many people drive from Charlotte and other nearby locations to use this port. It is not managed professionally, it was extremely hot and everyone was moody. FOOD: The food was frankly terrible. The buffet food was dull, repetitive, and similar to school cafeteria food. Over or undercooked, cold, and ingredients were not posted. (I have food allergies). The saving grace was Guy’s Burger Joint. That was good, and I could trust it. Even the buffet desserts were awful. One fellow passenger chose chocolate cake and said to me “Well if I add a heap of chocolate sauce it might then taste like chocolate!”. We did not eat in any of the restaurants on-board for fear the food would be just as bad and we would have to pay extra for more bad food. Room service was also poor. Coffee was bad, half and half was delivered in a plastic cup. Simple chicken tenders from room service were over-cooked and non-edible. CUSTOMER SERVICE: The customer service was terrible onboard and on excursion shuttles. People were not friendly, there was no excitement in the air. It was dull because our hosts were dull. We were not treated as guests who in some instances paid a great deal of money for the cruise. Honestly it felt as if we were a burden that the staff didn’t want to deal with. We seemed to be an added chore. Our shuttle to Blue Lagoon Island was “ok”’on the way over. We were told we could return to Nassau at 1:15. We made sure to book our VIP Dolphin Swim early so we could go shopping before we had to board the ship. We waited in the heat for the 1:15 shuttle, but when it arrived the captain advised he was not transporting anyone until 2:15. At least 100 people were in line, and we asked why. He simply said the shuttle was cancelled, we had to wait. After many people complained he relented and allowed us to board. On the way back to port the music was blasted so loudly that we had to cover our ears, many of us complained with no resolution. Almost comical in hindsight, rows of passengers with our fingers in our ears! And again, the crew was very rude. By the time we got back to port we only had time to shop in the port shops, which are questionable at best. We didn’t feel safe, so we returned to the ship with no cool Nassau souvenirs. This was absolutely unacceptable. AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION SERVICES In Charleston you can Uber to and from the airport for $40.00 total. The Carnival transportation is $30.00 per person per destination for a total of $120.00 for two passengers. The transport service was seriously disorganized. I paid for transportation from the airport to the ship, with the intention of price shopping Uber for the ride back to the airport. On my way to the airport (to get to Charleston) I called Carnival to make sure my transportation was lined up because I had received nothing in my cruise documents except a notation that I had purchased that “excursion”. The Customer Service employee told me I had not purchased transportation. I advised I had my receipt in my hand, and tried to give her the confirmation number. She wouldn’t take the number and said my payment was not processed. She then told me to call the shuttle company! She gave me the number rather than calling herself. I proceeded to call them. I was told that my daughter and I were listed as confirmed passengers and that the Carnival employees were not trained properly on a new internal system. Needless to say, after price shopping we chose Uber for our trip back to the airport when we left after the cruise. Carnival charges MUCH TOO MUCH for airport to pier/ pier to airport shuttle service. They make you believe you “need” to purchase through them, paying exorbitant fees. OVERALL EXPERIENCE: The Carnival Sunshine, as I said, is an old and tired ship. The employees act as if they are old and tired too. I consider this cruise to have been a huge waste of money, and will not ever cruise on this particular ship-if I even cruise Carnival-again. If I was offered a free cruise from Carnival via Charleston I would not accept because it was such an awful experience. It is so disappointing when you look forward to, and pay for a trip that is meant to create meaningful memories, and walk away with this. A whole lot of nothing except shoppers remorse. ADVICE: Price shop ALL cruise lines. They all have specials, don’t assume Carnival is all you can afford. The sunshine was basically a floating bar providing transportation to Nassau. Look at all of your options, I wish I had but was under the impression that I was getting a good deal because I am a VIPF member due to past cruises. Once I realized I had over-paid it was too late to cancel the trip. And most importantly, don’t cruise from Charleston, SC unless you are willing to deal with undesirable circumstances. Read Less

I just came of a 8 day cruise on the Carnival Horizon and it was the worst experience I have ever had on a Carnival ship. I will start by saying that the boarding process was fine. Once on board we went to the Lido deck while waiting for the cabins to be ready. When we did go to our cabin #6445, we found that the cabin was nice, but we found that there were not any bathrobes in the cabin which your advertising states that there should be. I will say that the cabin steward Muh was very good and did a good job throughout the week. My party had the any time dining and on the first night we went to dinner and were seated at the back of the dining room walking past numerous empty tables. We ordered our dinners and appetizers and then waited for them to be served. The appetizers came and some were good and others were inedible. When the main course arrived not all of my parties meals arrived at the same time and when they did they were either warm or cold. We all agreed that it might just be because it was the first night. The next morning was a sea day and we all met for breakfast for the sea day brunch. We we were seated it wasn’t very busy yet. We again ordered our meals and the same issues occurred. The food was not brought out at the same time. One of my party order the Seafood tower and the bagel that came with it was so hard it was inedible. We constantly had to keep asking for coffee to be refilled instead of the wait staff offering to do it. We also had to refill our own water. One morning my wife tried the 12 hour French toast and it came out and it was raw inside. That afternoon and every day we went to the Lido deck for lunch and I will tell you that the only thing in our opinion that was good was either the Deli which you had wait in a very long line or Guy’s Burgers which also had long lines. In my opinion that was due to the poor quality of the food on the buffet. That evening we again met for dinner and we we again escorted to the very back of the dining room past many empty tables. We were put in a secondary dining area that was so dark you would not have be able to see the food when served. At this point I went to the hostess to complain and the Maitre D heard me and I explained the situation to him. He did arrange for us to have a table closer to the from and also gave us a very good waitress named Healene who we had for the remainder of the trip. Unfortunately the quality of the food never improved for the remainder of the trip. We were constantly having to asked for something else to eat or just not finishing our food. We went to several shows in the lounges and found them to be of very poor quality and actually walked out of several of them. The one that we looked forward to called the Celestial Strings was a huge disappointment. They also offered one that was Music that was from the Big Band time that was ruined by interjecting modern music into it. I know that this is a new and bigger ship, but I found it to be not a easy ship to get around in. In my opinion, to get to certain areas of the ship you have to either go up or down a deck to get to them. Even though I found the dining experience to be bad, there was one thing that surpassed that and that is the elevator system. I have never heard so many complaints by so many people about the elevators in all my years of cruising. It has to be the most idiotic system I have ever seen. You press a button and you are assigned to an elevator and you have no idea when that elevator will arrive because you don’t see what floor it is on. Many a time after waiting several minutes we would end up taking the stairs. This is not a big deal when it is one or two flights, but is very annoying when you are on deck four and you want to go to deck 10. The ship has a Serenity area that is just for adults, but it is beyond my understanding how you don’t have a pool on that same area. We did use the pool at the stern of the ship but found it to be overcrowded and felt like sardines when in it. We also went into the hot tubs on several occasions and they were just warm and the jets were very weak. No air in the jets for the relaxing feel. My wife and I both enjoy going to the casino when we cruise and I will tell you that we found the casino staff all very nice. The only complaint I have is that the cigarette smoke and smell is so bad that being non smokers it is very hard to stay for very long. You would think that this being a new ship they would have done a better job on recirculating the air in the casino to remove the smell. Even when the casino was closed when in port if you had to walk thru it, it stunk. I have been a frequent cruiser on Carnival and have never had a bad experience until now Read Less

I was here for my sisters wedding. They press you to be on time and if your late they have an attitude but its okay for them to be late. Which they was late for everything. The wedding kept getting pushed back so even the bride and groom didn't know the time they was getting married. Then they set the time for 3:00 pm and the people didn't show up til 4. House keeping was no where to be found. The 1st night dude came by and dropped off his card and said for me to give him a call any time I needed something and he never answered the phone. I had to stand in the long line at customer service for them to call him just to get what I needed the whole cruise. Also the dinner staff was not friendly like I have experienced on other cruises. The staff is not very knowledgeable you can ask all of them the same question and they will give you different answers which is sad due to them being on the same boat for 6 months at a time! All their activities was closed most the time. My son is 13 and was looking forward to the teens club which only opened for 2 hours 1 day out of the 4 days we was on the ship. The basketball court didn't open til 12 am then of course it was adults. This was the worst ship I've ever been on. Then to top it off they charged me for a changed I didn't make! Read Less

We have been on many many cruises, several cruise lines. This has been far and away the worst cruise ship and cruise we have every taken. VERY SMALL ship little to nothing to do. very ROUGH unsteady ride. Has not been redone. Exterior is rusty and pitted. Balcony is slimy, rusty and unusable. Windows are filthy. Covered in a rusty slimy thick film. Hair, body, cloths stuck to everything out there. The smell of facies and methane gas permeates through stained cabin toilets into the cabins and through the halls. Food in main dining room is terrible portions are small child sized which really doesn’t matter cause you don’t want to eat it anyway. You have to be up on deck by 6:15 AM if you want a deck chair. Ports of call are still devastated. Sad to see - nothing to do -very very sad. The only thing worth doing is the Chef’s Table which was lovely. On last day we were awakened by crew banging on door screaming to get up time to get off the ship. Paperwork said we could stay in room until 8:30 but staff wanted us out at 6:45am. Thank god we were already up and dressed couldn’t wait to get out of the hell hole. Disembarkment complete chaos. Unorganized. Takes quadruple the amount of time as any other ship we have ever been on. Simply put don’t ever go on this ship disgusting! Read Less

Family Trip the best part was being with family everything else from dining experience to the rooms say I want cruise with Carvinal again. The buffet was ok when you got to the grill service the young lady working it was terrible didn't listen to how you wanted sandwich made. Then in dinning steak was hard as a brick. The chicken was so dry the server was so slow and no one would help her table. Watching people order after us and food before ours. The bed was a twin push together and slept terribly. We were told by guests service that it would be taken care of. All they did was add another comforter to the bed which made it hot to sleep. The only thing that was positive about this was the room attendants were trying there best to accommodate us. There were a couple of attendants that stood out our server tried her best her name was Puii and our room attendants was I Ketut he was OUTSTANDING. Read Less

My wife and I decided to take our three kids on a cruise. This was my first cruise and my wife had been on a couple many years ago. Our kids are 7, 10, and 11. I'll work from cruise start to finish so I don't miss anything. We loaded into the ship at NYC port. The load in wasn't bad at all until we reached the buffet on the Lido deck. That is when we realized that we weren't alone on this cruise LOL. There were people everywhere!!! The buffet line was LONG and once you got some food, there were absolutely no seats available unless you stood by a table waiting for a family to get up. Once we finally found a seat after walking around for 5 minutes with 3 young boys, we started to eat and lets just say the food was less than desirable. Thursday night was our first night and I think we made the most of a disgustingly overcrowded ship. Friday morning rolls around and we are greeted with some annoying voice over the PA system waking us up with things to do. Once we we got out of our room, we went to the Lido deck for some lounge and pool action... Sadly, there were absolutely no lounge chairs for us to sit. The boys ran to the teeny, tiny disgusting pool and my wife and I stood around in disbelieve. There are too many people on this cruise ship. When walked to the pool in the rear of the boat, we found that the layout of the pool caused massive bottlenecks. Shirtless people with tons of lotion bumping into me because there is little room to move from the front to back of boat on the Lido deck is not what I envisioned when booking this cruise. When I went to speak with customer care desk, I waited in yet another line only to hear that maybe cruises aren't right for me ..... lol... The woman actually said that its possible that the cruise ship is great and I am just not the "cruise type" LMAO. Saturday was nice in Bermuda. My family and I had a nice day snorkeling and hanging on beach. When we got back on the boat we decided to go to the ropes course and play some basketball with the boys. Sadly, the basketball court was packed with 20 people. The ropes course was great for the kids but the two staff were terrible. The man was talking with some guy right next to my 7 year old son while he waited in line to get a harness. The woman behind was talking to another participant. I told my son to start getting his harness on since nobody was there to help at which time the woman started yelling at my son and I. Do your job and you wouldn't have this issue. When my son was done, he cam down the stairs with 7-8 other people and they got yelled at for coming down the "wrong stairs". She said she had instructed everyone prior to the ropes course and my son didn't listen. Well, seems like everyone didn't listen or you didn't explain properly. Sunday was filled with more of the same nonsense. Lines, bottlenecks, and swimming pools that saw more people than water. The pools were absolutely disgusting. If your kid can't swim, rather than stick them in the pool with a massive life jacket, keep him out of the pool. Must have been 30 kids with giant yellow vests on. lol Monday was a day for exiting the cruise. The buffet was opened and then closed and the dining room closed early as well. We sat with our bags in a shuttered bar on the 5th floor and waited about 2 hours to leave the ship. I could be wrong but it seems like they could have made our last couple hours on the cruise a bit more enjoyable. I am sorry to say but this cruise was not good. Not sure we will ever try another cruise again. Read Less

This was my second cruise, first being with just my son (10 months at the time), and I. This second cruise was with our whole family. It was by far the worst family vacation we've ever had. Never again will we use carnival. They screwed up all our room assignments (they gave me a $300 on board credit that got immediately eaten up by gratuities), staff is beyond rude, no one cares if you are having a issue unless you inform them you are having issues with locating your autistic son due to the incompetent staff shuffling my kids to the wrong zone for the drill. My son was suppose to be excused from the drill due to his medical issues but nooooooooo the steward staff made my son, daughter, and grandmother leave their room. By the time I reached my son he was a minute away from passing out. He has heat triggered seizures. The guest service manager tried to prevent me from getting my son out of the drill area. I had to yell at her he needed to leave. When she came to find me to try to I guess tell me about myself she realized the situation was actually serious she then changed her stank attitude and tried to kiss butt. Same with the dinning room staff in the Atlantic dinning room. The hostess was so rude and the head manager as well but of course when I said to my fiance that situation was just one more thing to add to our email to corporate he changed his attitude. It seems in order for the crew to be nice you have to inform them you are contacting corporate. I could honestly go on and on about how horrible the crew was but Ill save myself from getting frustrated again. As far as food.... It was gross. Eggs are super runny, bacon is dang near raw, pancakes taste like crap, syrup is watered down, even the main dinning room dinner is just bad. The only thing i enjoyed was the crab legs and I had to pay $25 for it. No matter if it was breakfast, lunch, or dinner its crap. We did the cat in the hat breakfast and although my kids enjoyed meeting the characters the food was basic. Now the port.... We stopped in Nassau bahamas and man oh man that port was NASTY. As soon as we got off the ship we were disgusted by how dirty the port was. And then when we got past the tourist information gate we were swarmed by ppl trying to push services or merch on us. That was annoying but i get it. What got me really annoyed was numerous guys came up to us (my kids too) asking if we needed weed or "blow" (im assuming thats cocaine). Like they have no care in the world there are little kids there. A lot of shops try to play you aswell and take your money claiming they have no change. Thank god I read and did my research before we got there and knew not to buy anything at the port and to walk a few blocks down to get everything cheaper. the straw market was interesting.... VERY hot so that was interesting to see how all these vendors just deal with the heat. Getting on and off the boat was pretty easy but we did get off 2 hours after we ported and got back on a way before everyone else. Now the debarking wasn't too bad. I didnt wait for our deck number bc frankly my son was just tired of waiting and starting to get a big sensory overload. They didnt give me issues about leaving before our deck was called. Aside from all the issues with food, staff, ect, the boat it self was overly crowded, our room didnt even get turned one day, there was a lot of rust around the boat, there isnt much to do either. Even with the little they had to do it was so packed it wasnt worth waiting for the activities. We also had a party crew in the room across from us and holy crap they were loud. The screaming and laughing lasted up until around 3am and started right back up at 8am. It was very annoying. Security even came up a few times bc i guess other guest complained but those ppl could care less and the moment security was gone they started yelling again. Oh and lets not forget about on both decks 6 and 7 (I had two rooms) the hallways reeked of marijuana. Def not something I want my kids to be smelling. Oh and let me not forget to mention how the communication between the 800 number, the crew on the boat from the different departments and management has HORRIBLE COMMUNICATION. No one knows anything and none of the requested accommodations I requested for my autistic child and my other child with server food allergies were granted So if asked if i would ever use carnival again.... my answer would be "HECK NO"! This will have been the first and the last time I ever give them a shot. Read Less

We chose this cruise as a beautiful family getaway. I’ve traveled on several other ships and always had excellent service. Cleanliness smiles and great entertainment. This ship offered non of that. Not one good morning not one hello from staff. Everyone that works here looked miserable. I feel like I’m spending almost 9,000 for 5 people was a waste. I booked a room with a balcony because my husband is a smoker and is disabled just to find out that you can’t smoke on the deck The smoking area on deck 10 was terrible several people blasting music and dancing with their personal radio Floors by the pool were wet and no one was there to keep deck dry. Not to mention the sewage smell. Who wants to smell that while trying to relax on vacation. No pools for kids so the two pools they do have are all full of kids in diapers with life preservers kicking you because it’s so tight. The lido deck was a joke so unorganized. I tried to talk to the manager George but he walked away from me. Picture 40 people on a buffet line that doesn’t move. The one cook behind the line would carve one piece of meat and walk away to the hot line. No one should have to wait 25 min for food. The line for sandwiches was also a min of 30 min wait. They had one guy to prepare the sandwiches. This boat is grossly understaffed and it clearly shows with the staff and how miserable they are. We finally arrived at our first port so I called carnival and was told no one can help me. I wanted to get off the boat and fly home from Puerto Rico but wanted a partial refund of my trip from hell. No one helped me. The day I got home I received a call from carnival because I sent them an email. All I got was an I’m sorry and someone from guest services tried to contact me. Seriously people if guest services was trying to get a hold of me they would page you. If my Amex wouldn’t go thru I guarantee they would get. Hold of me. Stay away from this boat. Stay away. Our summer vacation this year was booked on the Carnival Fantasy July 8th -13th. We sailed out of Mobile, Alabama to Cozumel and Costa Maya. We spent most of our days at the water slides with the kids and laying out. The main pool was very tiny and people were packed like sardines in it...to close for comfort for me! Our first night dinner was in the Celebration dining room and the food was horrible. It took 30 minutes for our drinks to arrive at our table, bread was served without butter(15 minutes for that to arrive) and over an hour for our main meal. My kids ordered the steak and there was so much fat throughout I couldn’t even cut it with a knife. They ended up just eating their appetizer and dessert for dinner. I actually left the dining room and walked down to the main bar to get our second drink order and to inquire at guest services why it was taking over an hour for our meal. The dining room was not busy and had empty tables everywhere. The couple behind us experienced the same issues. By the 4th night I was getting sick of eating the same thing for dinner...they don’t really change the menu. I decided to pay an extra $20 and ordered the filet and lobster. The filet was average and lobster was rubber...I would not recommend spending the extra money. We visited the spa several times throughout our cruise. My daughter and niece got pedicures and the ladies did such a good job I made an appointment for myself and my husband. The spa was running a special for a back/neck/foot massage with hot stone for 89.99 per person. I decided to take advantage and scheduled myself, daughter and niece. The massage was supposed to last for 50 minutes but only lasted 30...a little disappointed but it was a good massage. We also visited the Casino two nights but the cigarette smoke was so bad and no one was walking around taking drink orders so we didn’t stay long. We didn’t end up winning any money but still had fun. The kids played in the arcade a few nights but it was a little pricey. We had three kids with us and each game was $2.00. We were in room E321 and it looked as if the room had not been updated since 1990. We had black mold around our sink, toilet was dirty, fingerprints all over the doors and walls and dirt/dust on carpets. Our air conditioner in the room was working great up until the last two days. There were five of us in the room so we had to request a cot for my 10 year old. This room was the same size room we had last year but we only had four people in it. They basically charged us for five people and never increased the size of our room. The cot was actually a toddler bed so my sons feet hung off the end of it. Our steward was very friendly but not very efficient. He would clean our room and collect the pool/bath towels but never replace the pool towels. We had to call every morning to ask for new towels and were told we couldn’t get any until 8:30 am. Our other option was to head to the main pool area and sign them out. We got off the boat in Cozumel and Costa Maya for a few hours. It was nothing great just a lot of people trying to sell dollar store items. I would never go back again. We were a little leary about eating off the boat so we had bottled water/bottled Heineken and walked around for a little. Thursday evening Hurricane Barry rolled in and it was all downhill after that. We were told the port in Mobile was closed but for whatever reason the captain decided we were going to head there anyway( safety of the guests on board didn’t come into play on that decision) We were due to get off the boat Saturday morning at 8:00 am and the next guests were due to board at 11:00 am Saturday. All day Friday the boat was really rocking. We were eating lunch and the whole display of deserts and plates fell off the counter. It got worse Friday night. There were broken wine glasses on the floor people slamming into the walls and service carts falling over along with pop cans and glasses scattered throughout the hallways. People were throwing up EVERYWHERE! My niece actually stepped in one pile of throw up trying to make it back to our room. My kids were absolutely terrified and crying thinking that they were going to die. I went to guest service to ask what was going on and why we were driving through the storm if the port was closed. They could have cared less! All three workers behind the counter were dancing and singing while the music was playing at the main bar. I asked them to send someone to clean up the pile of puke that was in our hallway but that never happened, it was still there the next day. Saturday we were supposed to get off the boat but the port was still closed. Long story short we ended up having to go back out to sea and forced to spend another night on the boat. We got off the boat Sunday morning and header home but the curse of our vacation doesn’t end there. My daughter got severely sick Monday evening. She could not eat or drink anything without throwing up. She ended up being admitted to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh for what they say is an unknown virus and dehydration. We were interviewed by the center for disease control while there. It has now been 5 days since we have been off the boat and she is still running a high fever, can’t eat and sleeps all day. We are due to follow up with her pediatrician in three days. I plan to email Carnival regarding the cleanliness of the ship and inquire if anyone else has reported a illness. I am also contacting the local health department in my area to see how I go about reporting this. Update: carnival contacted me and offered me $100.00 credit...what a joke! My husband had to miss 2 days of work and I had to miss 1 day. This will be our last cruise!! I have photos of the puke in hallways, rain pouring in from the stairways when we were stuck in the hurricane, mold in the bathroom and fatty steak. I can’t load them from my phone but plan to post them on other review sites for carnival. Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was on dates that fit into our inflexible travel schedule and the price was right. It was me, my wife our two young daughters (6 & 3) and my mother. We had an ocean view suite and a neighboring standard stateroom. Accommodations: The suite size was okay. The balcony was very nice. The furnishing were worn but serviceable. However, we immediately noticed a septic stench in the room that made the room far less appealing. It got worse so we notified our room attendant. It got better once he addressed it but soon returned. Then, the floor tile in the bathroom started cracking and raw sewage started seeping up from under the cracked tile grout. Rather than relocate us, they insisted on fixing the issue. Each fix was a bandaid and the issue kept returning. It was disgusting! I finally insisted they move us but they said," just let our plumber see if they can fix it". It was just another temporary fix and septic stench and the seeping sewage came right back. The ship is old and feels it. The on board entertainment was virtually unwatchable. The child care camp was glorified babysitting. The food was mediocre and uninspired. The pools were drained multiple time for "unsafe bacteria levels". We complained and they credited us $50 off our final invoice and offered us $250 credit toward another cruise. We gave Carnival a chance to make this right and they would not step up. Just a really really really terrible experience. Never will I choose Carnival again and my wife was so traumatized she's just turned off to cruises in general now. Read Less

We cruised twice on this ship before millions were spent to upgrade this ship. They did a terrible job. They ruined it. It is hard to get around, they added little places on deck nine to get special foods and when walk towards the restaurant in the back you have to wait for people coming the other direction, they downsized the theater, they say if you do not use your lounges at the pool they will remove your towels but half the lounges had towels on them but nobody used them all day, there were a few arguments about this. Everyday there was a sewage smell on deck 9 around the pool and on deck 6 sewage came out of a room. The cruise director “ flying Scotsman” was awesome I give him 10-10’s and also dancers and singers the same. Room stewards were great and the waiters etc. were awesome. We will never that ship again. Kids were out of control, running etc. Read Less
